Thirty seven to ten is your final score. The Eagles failed to get it done in Dallas. Thanks for joining us on the postgame show presented by rico Ike Crease Brand, Duffy Amy Campbell. We are going to try to unpack this thing. The Eagle is not really in this from
the start. Ike, Yeah, I'm surprised too. I mean, obviously a big game coming up this week, we knew what was the stake, a chance to be in first place, getting the division win on the road over the team that you're tied with, and just a little surprised that the team didn't come out and performed the way we expected them to. And I'm pretty sure that'll be the
talk in the locker room. It's just how flat they seemed when you think about some of the miscuse, the things that has continually plagued this team all year long showed up again today. I mean, last week it was the two big plays on defense in the first quarter that put them into an early hole. This week it's two big players on offense, you know, And that's why when people talk talk about why why are the slow stars?
Why does this happen? It's not the same thing week after week it's not oh, you know, third down, they got to get better, or you know, they gotta run the ball better. It's something different each week, and those things just kind of spiral, and it certainly did today. I mean, that's to jump out to an O fourteen hole, it is tough to bounce back from. They obviously not. Yeah,
within the first six minutes they're down O fourteen. Coach Peterson elects to receive to start the game, hoping to give the offense a little bit of a spark, and they didn't even really have much of a chance to get that going. Like, yeah, again, self inflicted wounds when you turn the ball over the way they did. You think about early in this game, the miscues. Fran just mentioned that, you know, Dallas gott are coming out fumbling on that opening drive. You know, Dallas takes that in
and scores. Then they come back get the ball, Carson gets sacked, strip fumble, Dallas ball again right there. So before you even before the defense can even catch their breath, you're down fourteen nothing. Dallas with the ball in a great situation deep in Eagles territory, setting up for the score. And these are the things that I'm sure they talked about all week not wanting to happen, not allowing to happen, focusing in on not beating themselves, and to still come
out and have that happen has to be very disappointing. Yeah, I think anytime you have this kind of scenario where on all three sides of the ball, you just didn't have the kind of effectiveness that you would have wanted in a division game, in a high stakes game. It's still earlier. We're not even the mid season yet, but we talked about on the Kickoff show. May I mean,
this was this was a high stakes game. You know, winner goes home as first place in the NFC East and the Eagles are coming home now losers are too straight still have to go on the road next week against a five and one Buffalo team, and then you've got Chicago, who's going to be a desperate, hungry team that was in the playoffs last year coming back for
revenge for last year's playoff loss. Yeah, I mean, we knew this would be a difficult part of the schedule that they would have to try to navigate through, and that lost last week in Minnesota, didn't get off to a good start with the three game road trip. I thought you would be able to bounce back going up against the struggling Dallas Cowboy team that had lost three games in a role, you know, including losing to an
OH and four Jets team last week. It just didn't look like the same Cowboys team from the previous three weeks. And for the Eagles, they pretty much resembled how they've looked all year long. I mean, they've been able to overcome it at times, but you play this way every week, you're gonna lose your fair share games. It's just difficult to come from behind when you're on the road down
by double digits early in the game. And the Eagles had been living on that tight rope all year long, really trelling in just about every game, with the exception of the Jets game. And as we wait to hear from coach Chuck Peterson and Carson Wentz on their thoughts on this game, will continue to unpack it here on
the show. Guys, let's go to the trenches, because this was something Brand and I really talked about before in the in the kickoff show, that this is going to be a battle on the line of scrimmage, and let's let's talk about Eagles defensive line versus the Dallas offensive line. They had some injuries on the offensive line, but those guys were back tonight. They were healthy, and it really
seemed like the Eagles defensive line. There's some injuries there at the defense of tackle position, but they really got pushed around up front. Yeah. I mean, you had three sacks I believe overall in the game, you know, and somewhere were key in the first half, and it was good to see Derek Barnett get home for that sack that helped get the Eagles the ball back, and on one score game, it was still kind of a situation where you thought, all right, let's go make something now.
After that sack by Derek Barnett forces third long, Eagles get the ball back and give it back to them. So, you know, I think when you look at the defensive line, I am excited. That's probably one of the big things I'm interested to go back and see tomorrow when I watched the film, is you know, what did the pressure
look like? I will say this early in the game, first half, I might just chart in the game a lot of checkdowns from from Dak Prescott, so that goes back to the coverage and say, okay, so the coverage down field look good. He's forced. They're forcing checkdowns by the quarterback. I do want to go and see what the pressure looked like. I'll say this though, we talked to Amy about all the things they do schematically. You know,
we talked about it this week as well. Play action screen game, stacked receiver bunches made more of a quarterback friendly offense. We saw all that. The quarterback run game was prevalent for Dallas tonight, you know, and obviously Ezekieliot and what they want to do in the run game. So all of that goes to the gate. A pass rush, the ball comes out quick. You know. Those are the things where it can be a little bit tough to evaluate just watching live on TV. Yeah, I thought they
did a nice job in the passing game. Listen, when you dropped back like Dallas does and you got Ezekiel Elliott back there, it makes it difficult at times to get that pass rush there. It was a back and forth I thought between the old line and D line when it came to the pass protection. But the running game is where we struggled there. I thought Zeke was able to get too many yards on first down at times.
And when you're playing a team like the Cowboys to run the ball as well as they do and we struggle in the passing game, you're gonna have to decide through your game plan what are you willing to give up? And it looked like this week they paid a little bit more attention to the passing game and helping these corners out in coverage, and the running game was going to be defended by six and seven man box and Zeke is just too good. You need an eighth man
up there, and eventually he's gonna get his. And I thought tonight Dallas won the battle. As far as the run game goes. They ran the ball on as better than anybody I've seen pretty much all year. Yeah, when you're looking at the statuetes, they rushed for one hundred and eighty nine yards I believe one hundred and eleven of those were Ezekiel Elliott, and then the passing game two hundred and thirteen yards through the air for Dallas.
But really the big number, I mean, if those numbers aren't big enough, what really jumps out to me is the first down. So they had twenty three to the Eagle sixteen brand. Yeah, and the first I mean, those rushing numbers are that's the states that we haven't seen that and that's really what this Eagles defense. They've always been able to hang their hat on being able to stop the run. In this game, that was not the case.
And certainly I'm just going going through my you know, my chart here and just looking at Zeke plus seven, Zeke plus eight, Zeke plus eighteen, Yeah, Zeke plus thirteen, Zeke touchdown run. I mean it started early. It wasn't like, oh, that was all garbage time in the second half. They were able to pick up chunks of yardage on the ground early in this game. That brings up third manageable allow was going to keep moving the football, and that makes it very very tough to play defense. Yeah, it
really does. And and Dak probably hit two big throws to day. I mean he hit the wide open one on the double move by Mary Cooper and the other one of the Marty Cooper called that's just an outstanding catch, great coverage, and it was just one of those moments that just kind of you pick You're like, well, that's you know, that's that's an example of a guy going up and making a play. Yeah, right, I mean that's the coverage is there and the receiver goes up and
makes that play there. Um, So that's sort of what we need on our our side of the football, right, We gotta have guys come up and make Yeah. I mean, you just can't make the ordinary play. Sometimes you got to make the extraordinary play when you want to start
to get your offense gone. And that's really what Dak had going for him tonight is that this guy's made a couple of big catches for him, But really it was that running game that allowed him to operate back there with really no pressure around him, especially in the play action. Like, why don't we get to your three takeaway? Since we have been taking away many things from this one, let's get to ikes three takeaways. Well, we've discussed pretty much. I mean some of them early miscues in the game.
You just can't have that turn, the fumble by Dallas Goddard can't have that, and then the strip sacked that Carson gave up. You know, Lane, I thought I had a tough night tonight. Back there in pass protection, DeMarcus Lawrence got his first sack against the Eagles in his career right there, setting up that touchdown. So having those early miscues, not being able to get off the field on third down, A couple of key penalties on defense put this team behind the eight ball in that first
half where Dallas just pretty much controlled the clock. Key penalties on special teams too. Yeah, that was a big penalty the punt return for you know, Boston Scott brings a back pass midfield. Rudy Ford penalty on a block in the back that was it was an unnecessary penalty. There was no reason to pushing the back there, brings it back inside the fifteen. That's a forty yard swing in a two score game. It's a critical play that
is hidden yardage that no one talks about. But that's four first downs for this team that has to be able to create those big plays at forty yards as an eternity. That's I mean, that's a huge, huge impact. Uh, you know on special teams that you know they weren't able to happen. And then you had a couple of kick returns as well, where the ball you know, was kicked into the end zone could have been a touchback that came out bad. Blocking whatever you want to call it.
They get caught tackled inside to twenty and that's another again ten fifteen yards. They were talking about a big difference in the end, you know, in the end game of those drives, it adds up well, and when we look at the Eagles offense, I mean, not really able to get a lot going there as well. Friend, you didn't have I think Alshan didn't have any catches until the third quarter and you were looking kind of down those receiver stats. Z Arts didn't get anything I think
until the fourth quarters. So just really unable to get anybody going in the passing game. Yeah, when you have thirty I want to say it was thirty three plays run in the in the first two and a half quarters. That's gonna happen. There's only so many balls that go around and in that kind of scenario. So I think when you look at the way that this offense operated, um, you know, they weren't able to create those big plays.
They weren't able to stay on the field. You had too many penalties, you had too many Uh the turnovers obviously certainly set this team back. But look, this is this was a game that they're gonna go back and they're gonna watch this film and say, you know, from the jump, it just was not our night. Well, I know it's something. Yeah, you guys are gonna want to
go back and watch the film. But I just at an initial takeaway, what were they doing so well on defense that the Eagles were not able to get really much going in the passing game, in the run game, whatever it is. The offense just wasn't able to get anything going. Yeah, mother takeaway Amy fran Is the pass protection and night I thought the best day and the Cowboys did tonight was get after Carson Wentz without having
to bring extra pressure. They did at times, but for the most part they were able to get pressure on Carson with just their front four. I thought Andre up and down night with his first start over there and left tackle, and I mentioned a second ago Lane I thought struggled a little bit tonight as well. Carson Rise. Yeah,
and Lane typically plays well against de Marcus Lawrence. But you know, DeMarcus Lawrence is a is a pro bowled defensive ends led his league in sacks, so it's no shame and giving up one or two to a guy like that. But I thought Carson was hit way too much tonight. There were times where you had coverage sacks right where he was standing there and holding the ball with no one to throw it to, and you wanted to be able to get rid of it, and they didn't,
and he was hit alten tonight. So I thought the pass protection kind of failed in the night and it makes him jittery in the pocket. You know, when you start getting hit like that, you start to see ghosts. Either get get out of the pocket too soon or you're holding onto the ball too long. And I thought they disrupted his slow tonight when he was able to extend a few things just by doing what he does.
But like you said, still the breakdowns with the coverage and the offensive line still as magical as he can be in that moment, Fran he could only do so much in those situations. You alluded to it earlier that you know at some point you also need guys to go up and make place for your Carson Wentz it made some great place to individually for himself to create in the backfield, but you also need guys to come up with some big players the back end for you
as well. It takes two to tango. You know, we've started watching, you know, Sunday night game, so we get to watch the one o'clock games. We watched the four o'clock games. You see up and down the league teams that were able to make those big plays in the passing game. The Eagles have just not been able to make them consistently enough over the last four or five games, and it's come back to hurt them for sure. Yeah, and one guy who did make big plays when he
needed to was Dak Prescott. I thought Dak when he needed to make a big throw tonight, he was able to make the throws. Really the one turnoverhead late in the game. Other than that, I thought he played a relatively clean game, didn't force many throws, was able to run the football at times as well. And he rushed for another touchdown tonight. So in a game like this,
your quarterbacks are gonna have to come up big. And I thought, you know, Carson didn't get the help they needed to be able to come up big tonight, and Dak got the help that he needed to be able to come up big. Starting with an effective running game. When you rush for over one hundred and eighty yards, that's gonna make life easy for your quarterback back there, Fran, let's go back and reflect on your key to the game. Obviously you're gonna want to watch the film kind of
dive in a little bit more. But I first glance, how do you evaluate? That was gonna be a tough one to off the initial evaluation, and we're talking about just the communication in the secondary being able to handle all the different things that the Dallas offense was going
to throw at them. I will say I saw a lot of those stacked receiver sets, So Dallas, you know, stay true to what they had been doing over the course of the first six games, and you know that's stacking receivers, that shifts motions little a lot of variety with the formations, a lot of play action obviously the run game, in the screen game, we saw a lot of two back sets from them, So they kept things,
but you know, multiple they did. They tried to attack the Eagles in a lot of different ways and they were able to have success. So tough for me to say exactly how they did for me. I think one of the big things too is you know, you look into this and say, all right, if you're the Eagles, again. You know, Doug Peterson said it earlier this week, and it's tough to say it when you're in a game like this where you lose by you know, twenty seven points.
A few plays early in the game completely outweigh and say and send the game going spiraling into a different way. You say, if you don't fumble that opening drive, like where's this team at? If you don't give up the stack fumble, like, where's this team at? It's it's frustra But that's that's football. That's exactly what the NFL is on a week to week basiness. And the other thing that that ripple effect is from those early turnovers and you get down fourteen nothing, Now you have to scrap
your game plan because now you're in catchup mode. And that's pretty much what they were in from what ten minutes to go in that first quarter when Dallas went up by fourteen. At that point, you basically are just in a throw throw, throw, throw, throw mode, and it makes it easy for a defense to sit back and and sort of divide, i mean, disguise what they want to do, bring an extra pressure of times dropping guys back off in coverage because they know you have to
throw the ball to try to catch back up. What do you guys think the turning point was for this game. We'll start with you like, well, I think the early turnover. I think when you when you're on a road like that, and Doug decided to take the ball to try to get this team off to a fast start. Um, and you turn the ball over on that opening drive, man, that is deflating. And for the home team to have something like that happened early in the game, it just
energizes that crowd. It gives that whole team life over there. And I thought Dallas was able to ride that wave of energy for the entire first half, and so they sort of fell asleep in the third quarter and then picked it back up. About it, it was just too late. Once you turn the ball over like that early in the game, it's hard to overcome. Remind me of the playoff game we had back in two thousand against the Giants.
I mean, we went up there opening kickoff, they took it to the house for a touchdown and we never recovered. We never recovered from it. Crowd was into the game, and once you have something like that happened to you early the first thing you say to yourself is, man, here we go again. Here we go again. So it becomes deflating for you as well, because you've told yourself all week, I'm gonna do this, right, I'm gonna do this. We gonna make sure we do this on the first drive.
You know, Doug is preparing to get that ball on the opening drive because the Dallas wins the toss, they're gonna defer to the second half, so they know they had a pretty good chance of having that ball coming out. And to have that happen on the opening drive, it's deflating. And sorry, Doug does that to try and set the tone. Yeah, right, and unfortunately it's set the tone going the other way.
I mean, that's the you know what if they go you know, we'll say six, seven and out and you putt and you pin them into the inside the fifteen, you feel good about it. That's fine, Like you know, you live and you play play in the next series. But to turn the ball over on the fifth play of the game and give them the ball inside the thirty yard line, that gets you going the other way. Then you get back and you give it away on your second player the next drive, it's really tough to
bounce back. That's the killer. And I'm telling you, I've been on teams where you struggle to get out of your way and get out of your own way, and when something like that happens early, it's just human nature that you're in the back of your hair. You said, Man, here we go again. We can't do And it's just it's just human nature. When you don't have the positive reinforcement coming from positive plays and things that you're doing well out there, that stuff just starts to creep in
your hand and it festers. And the Eagles got to find a way to get off to faster starts. And I know it seemed like we say this every week. A matter of fact, we have said it every week because it applies. Because it applies every week, man, And and to have that go down like that, man, it's just it's just difficult to overcome when you're on the
role like that. I did. I did want to give Dallas Goddard some credit for having that yet a touchdown and um, you know, getting that place one touchdown there for the Eagles. Of course, we're waiting to hear from head coach Doug Peterson he is about to approach the podium to dissect this loss to Dallas. I'm sure coach is going to have a lot to say about the confidence he has in his team and always his goal to go one and oh this week here comes coach Peterson. Okay,
do you uh defect you're overconfident? No, not at all. Do you regret um, voicing your confidence earlier in the week, and nope, do not. Just felt like, you know, I had a lot of confidence in this football team, a lot of a lot of trust, a lot of faith in the guys, had a good week of preparation. Um, and and quite honestly, I just you know, Um, after a game like this, we all have to kind of
step back, look in the mirror, especially myself. Starts with me and um, this is one of those games that, uh, you know, I take personal from that standpoint. We didn't play well and that's that's that's personal on me. So, um, I gotta get that fixed. Something similar last week. What can you say about the team? They just look unprepared tonight. Um, Well, I don't know if turning the ball over is unprepared, but um, that that's that's we can't do that we
can't start the game that way. You know, we had two fumbles to start the game, which led to fourteen points. That's hard against good football teams. That's hard. You can't do that, you know, mistackles, things like that. There's just things that we look at that uh. Um, we have to fix and we gotta fix them in a hurry. Um. And and we'll take a hard luck, you know, hard
look at that in the next couple of days. What happened on the deep ball to Nelson where it looked like maybe if you had laid out you have a chance to catch it. He explain that, Or to do you have any perspective all? And what happened on that play? We just missed what was on one behind the decisions one third, one second quarter. You guys run the ball, Yeah, yeah, we have runs. We have we have runs in that in that situation. Yeah. I I I elected to run
the football. Didn't check her. Yeah, I called the run. Yeah, because I thought we could. They're gonna play a soft zone defense and we run the ball. Carson wasn't able to get very comfortable all night. What did you think of the protection tonight? Um, it's gotta get better. Um, that's a good pass rush, though, I give them credit, it's a really good pass rush. So we have to do our part. We had. We got to you know, be critical of ourselves. We gotta get better there and
and uh improved that's uh can't. Can't you know, let our quarterback get hit that many times? Second quarter they had You guys had a third and seven they plait stop age with a cornerback. Uh, we missed the protection, just missed the question. Um. Yeah, I mean there's a lot of things that go into that. It could have been the back. Um until I see the film and actually see where the call was made. Um, it could
be a combination a couple of things. You had said at the start of last week, we're gonna go down there, We're gonna win. Had you seen anything leading up to this game over those next six days to suggest a performance like this might be ahead. No, not at all. I thought. I thought the guys were you know, you know, preparing themselves to come down here and and and and do that. Um. Give give Dallas credit. You know, they said they had a great game plan and they they
flat out beat us. It's just the worst losses you've been here. It's either one or two. Yes, does something have to change if you lose two games by at least eight two points? In our own what has to change is we gotta roll our sleeves up and go to work. We gotta figure out what's Uh, you know what's going on. We got ninety games left. Um, it's gonna start with me. I'm gonna I'm gonna own this one, you know, for the football team. Um, I'm gonna look
hard for the next couple of days. But uh, we got the guys in the locker room to get it fixed. I know that. And I still have a lot of faith in them, a lot of trust, and uh, we'll get it fixed talented enough. Yes, why do you believe that? Because you see you see signs of it, you see glimpses of it. Um, you know, obviously we're injured, and we got some guys that they're they're missing, but uh,
you know, we don't use that as an excuse. And and uh, I do feel like we got enough talent on this football team to to get the job done over thirty backs. You know, I look at it, and and uh I also gotta you know, I can't I can't put it all. I can't put it all on the defense. You know, the turnovers, Um, you give you give you give Dallas a short field like that. You know, teams are really teams are gonna score anyway. I mean that's just, uh, that's just what happens in this league.
And so it's everybody. It's not just not just one unit. Um, you know. And that's the thing that uh, you know, we have to look at here in the next couple of days and and get it fixed in a hurry. Did the gab a catch in the first three quarters? Targeted once? What did they do scheme wise to take him out of it? Um, it wasn't. It wasn't a lot of a lot of stuff they did. I mean,
you know, they played their defense like like we thought. Um, you know, obviously the protection broke down, so Carson couldn't really set his feet and deliver the football to him. But I thought Zach did make makes a couple of tough catches, uh, you know in this game. But again, you know, something we'll have to evaluate and look at. You ran rent all lot eleven of your first seven team plays, Um, Jordan had some success. Was that the
plan going in? Did anything change after the first two turnovers and turns you play call well as far as running the ball, um, you know, we felt like we had a good run plan. Um, there were some uh, there were some kills in there. Uh, you know for the quarterback to get to um you know, Um, you can't listen you fall down fourteen nothing, something's got to get you know, something's got to change and and and it kind of takes you out of your rhythm a
little bit. Um, put a drive together, scored, got ourselves back in it. But uh, you know, we just couldn't couldn't seem to catch up. You tried different ways last week to wake up this team, motivating this team. What more can you do? How do you get it across to this team? Well, you know, listen, obviously it starts with me. And when you wake up and coming into the building every day. You got to come there ready to work, ready to prepare and um, and and it's
with everybody. It's just not you know, you're not pointing to finger one one group or one person. It's everybody. It's it's me included and um, you know, and that's the message. That's just the message that we got to continue to prepare like we've been doing, put in the hard work, put in the time, you know, uh, and and get ourselves ready for another game. Correlation between this
loss and a lack of motivation or a lack of preparedness. No, No, I feel like the guys were well prepared coming into this game. You know again, I've said it about three times already that they were they were prepared. I mean, and you know, you can't turn the ball over like we did. I mean that just flat out the bottom line, and games like this, you can't turn the ball over and give give good teams field position inside the fifty, inside the twenty and expect to win a football game.
So to me, that's not not necessarily being being prepared. There there are other factors, and so from where you stand, what's the biggest problem. It starts with me. So I'm gonna own this one. This is to be this one will be on me. Okay, coach saying it starts with me, which is what he has been saying and true to
true to form. Their taking responsibility as a head coach should really surprising to me to hear him say this is the number one or number two worst loss since I have been here obviously taking this one pretty hard. Bottom line, can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to win. It's a problem that has played the Eagles this season. As a player, what do you do to correct this? Obviously you weren't playing but right, but I mean, I know it's something that the players
are conscious of. I mean, obviously Dallas Godda doesn't want to turn the ball over right there, but he's trying hard to continue to fight for yards and for whatever reason, those are the type of things that happens to teams when you can't get out of your own weight. It's just things like that that happened. Even the extra effort plays turn out to be bad plays for you. And that's really what happened right there on Dallas with Dallas got her there, the one with Carson. I mean, nothing
really you can do right there. I mean, you can get better pass protection and try to get the ball out Quaker, But when the ball is exposed like that, doesn't take a whole lot for that defender to reach around there and knock the ball loose there. The one where he he didn't even may have took it, may have taken his eyes off the ball on the fumbled snap.
You know that one. That was a difficult one to see right there, because he's typically pretty good with that and that's just a classic case where he took his eyes off the ball. It was a good snap, hit him right in the chest. Can't have that the interception. I think it's just something as a result of trying to make something happen forcing the ball there. Didn't see
the defender there. And again, when you get down by as many points as they were down, a defense is just sitting back waiting on you to throw the ball. They're shitting back in those zones and they're reading your eyes as a quarterback. And when these receivers Carson these, I mean, he's typically gonna go to Alishan or Zach or Dallas got it. So the deepest knows that as well. And they're keying in on Alishan on that play. You got a robber in the hole right there who's able
to pick him off. So, um, those are just things that happen when you're pressing, when you're trying to make something happen, as opposed to just allowing the players to come to you. Uh. Typically that's what happens you You typically force something bad to happen when you're sort of pressing the issue. Yeah, uh to me, I think you know, the turnovers are tough. We're I was actually I was
texting back and forth with Ben Fennel about it. You know, it helps me out Eagles game planning with Eagle in the sky and we're talking about, all right, how we're gonna talk about this for tomorrow, and he's like, you know, turnovers, Like what is there talking? Like, are we're gonna break
down like four points of ball security? Like there's there's only so much that you know, even that the coaches can can talk about it with these guys with like they all know what it takes to protect the football and not fumble the football. I mean they've learned that since Pop Warner forever, you know, So it's not it's nothing new that they've never heard before. There's not some magic wand they can kind of wave over it. It's
just like they have to take better Carol football. Yeah. Um, When from the perspective of the defense, when you are playing from behind and you're in a hole that fast, how does it change things for a defense? It's difficult because now the coach is limited as to what he can do, you know, and when the Cowboys are getting the ball and moving it the way they were on first down and second down, now you can't be aggressive and when because you don't want to leave single coverage
out there with a Marii Cooper and Michael Gallup. The difficult part is when an offense can have it either way, when they can run the ball well and hit you with the pass, your defense is basically on their hills, and to get two turnovers from the offense then early in the game and have your back against the wall there early in the game. I mean, the Eagles defense really were on the hills all night from that point on.
It's just it's just hard to overcome that. When you got players like that on that side of the ball that are playmakers and Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliott and you give them a short field to work with and they're able to cash in on it. It just it puts the deepensive coordinator under a lot of stress because now he's gonna say to himself, how do I get
the ball back? Am I going to gamble? Right? And you know the Cowboys going to lead they really just want to eat up the clock as best they can, and it put Jim, put Jim's horts in a difficult position because now he's gonna be overly aggressive, and then the Cowboys are taking shots down the field, especially when you have a couple of injuries there to your defensive tackle. Yeah, you're already shorthanded. Already shorthanded as well. Friend. I think
you had a key stat, an interesting stat for us. Yeah, you know, just looking at that, some of the key numbers in this game. Look at anytime you have a loss like this, you're gonna have the numbers will tell a little bit of a story. Third down, money downs, right, Eagles three for nine dollars, eight for fourteen over fifty percent conversion for the Dallas Cowboys on third down red zone. In terms of touchdown person Eagles oh for two Dallas three for five included two for two. You gift wrapped
fourteen points before five minutes are up in this game. Turnovers, we talked about four to one in favor of the Dallas Cowboys. And then the other big one. They said this one on the broadcast. I'm assuming this number was from Pro Football Focus. Chris Collinsworth said that eleven miss tackles in the first half. Yeah, like I said, you won't want to get double digits in one game. To have it in the first half, that's a tough one to swallow. So coach Peterson keeps preaching on I watched
the film and these are correctable things. These are correctable things. It's the miss tackles, it's the turnovers, it's the penalties, it's things that are correctable. But it hasn't been something that they've put it all together. And uh yeah, you just see like a you know, just a lack of focus and discipline across the board. Yeah, and that's what that's what happens when your teams aren't performing well. I mean, these are the reasons why you look at these things.
And like Fran was saying, they certainly are conscious of it, and I'm sure throughout the week they are mindful of wanting to try to get these things turned around. It's just when you go out there on the field, now you have an opposition there and so you're gonna have to overcome that opposition and Dallas Dallas losing three games in a row, I think that they kind of clouded people's minds as to what type of team this was.
But this is a team that's very talented that just hadn't played well the last three weeks, and they got their guys back tonight and they seem to put it all together. And it's it's difficult losing. It's hard to lose four straight games in this league. Eventually, you're gonna turn it around somewhere. And tonight was Dallas's night, and this game doesn't feel good, and the Eagles are sitting
at three and four. Still a lot of football left to go, and I know we remind ourselves of that, but the Eagles need to remind themselves of that and get this thing turned around, because even with nine games to go, you can also lose the majority of those nine games if you don't turn this thing around. As far as getting off to faster starts, the self inflicting wounds, things of that nature, the things that we've been talking
about every week. If they don't get this week, you know what you are, what you're what you're putting out there on the field. And after seven weeks, we've seen this consistently, meaning inconsistent self inflicted penalties, self inflicted miscus like fumbles and things of that nature. Man. Unfortunately, this
is where you're at in the season. At the seven weeks. Oh, we knew this was going to be a tough stretch for the Eagles, and of course that this game was going to be a difficult one to win on the road at Dallas, a Dallas team that, in my opinion, then having a three game losing streak only made them more dangerous because they were going to be so desperate.
And you know, kind of the criticism of them this season so far was they looked great in the first three games, but did they have a really good win. This is now a good win for them. They lost to teams that were a little bit better, and of course the Jets, which kind of you know, that one's a little bit confusing as well. But you mentioned they get those guys back, and so they are going to start clicking. The Eagles are going to get another shot
at them. The division is still very much wide open, Coach Peterson saying, you know, we've got the guy in the locker room to turn it around. And that's what I'm confident in bright spots that we can look at from this one. Well, even just off what you just said. I mean, Dallas was three and five last year and then turn it around and they and they win a division. So you know, the Eagles are three and four, far
from all the way out of it. But to me, if I look at this, Sarah, what are some of the bright spots some of the things that you take away and just for me that I'm interested to see tomorrow watching the film. One is going to be a play that I believe I'm gonna break down a little bit later in the show after our first commercial is the Dallas got or touchdown? We referenced it earlier. Really cool kind of alteration off a play they've been running the last few weeks that connected for a big play,
So excited to dive deep into that. I thought we saw some interesting two back stuff, like with both Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard on the field together. So that'll be interesting to kind of dive into that and see exactly what they were doing from that standpoint, you know, defensively. Look, the Jalen Mills interception I thought was really good to see. I'm excited to kind of dig into the film and see exactly how Jalen looked in his bounce back from
that injury. Yeah, he's one. I'm interested to Seymour and Andre Dillard as well. Any initial thoughts about how he performed in his first NFL start a rookie left tackle, I mean, that is a difficult position, especially when you're going up against those Dallas passua rushers. To me, I think if you look at rookie is going to the NFL, quarterback obviously off the toughest business to jump right in
and have success after that. To me, it's offensive line and corner, the two positions where you are in uncomfortable situations moving backwards in reverse. Unnaturally you're asked to think a lot offensive line. In corner, he was putting a tough spot last week against Minnesota, and Everson Griffin watching him this week, I you know, obviously he gave up the one sack. I'm sure to go back and watch and see how he looked on film against Robert Quinn,
a very talented pass rusher. Yeah, baptized fire get out there for him. He got to get his feet wet at some point, and one up against a guy like Robert Quinn, great test for him. I thought I thought he played well for it. Being his first game national TV. A lot of pressure you're going in there having to fill in for Jason Peters. It's always pressing when you're the first pick in the draft, right, I mean when you're when you're a number one pick in the draft.
So I'm interested and excited to see him going forward. You know, the talent is there. He just has to get the confidence and get a little bit more experience because going up against a veteran like Robert Quinn, he has a lot of different pass rushing moves he can hit you with. Yeah, of course, Coach Peterson expressed confidence in him earlier this week. Hey, that's why we drafted him.
It's hey, welcome to the league, kid. I'm watching you watch all around the NFL, and I watched, you know, the sacks from all around the league, and you see a rookie offensive lineman on the receiving end of those sacks time and time and time and time again. I go through this draft class, and you know, you see guys that were first and second round picks that I
was excited about coming to the league. Use the word baptized, like, you know, I see Joan tell Or, I thought it was a top ten player in this draft, and we have gone to the top fifteen from Florida. Give up a sack or two every week, not just one game against a pro well pass rusher every week. So offensive line of very tough position, and I thought for the most part he seemed to farewell. Yeah, and you know
what they say that the old cliche is true. The closer you are to the ball, the more developmental that is, especially at those offensive line positions. And there he is protecting Carson Wentz in his first NFL start. As we wait for QB one to take the podium, we were a few seconds away from hearing Carson Wentz his thoughts on this game, on this loss to the Cowboys tonight, Wentz completing sixty one percent of his passes. And let's take a listen, Carson, what's your level of trust in
your wide receiver group at this morning. It's high, It's very high. I mean, those guys go out there game in and game out and make plays. And I feel extremely confident with them, you know, after this game and still going forward. And but at the end of day, we just gotta be better offensively. Today it was a struggle. Obviously, they played us played as well. We did not play well, so we got to correct some things and get back on to what what do you see as the biggest
problem at this point. I mean, all I know is when you turn turn the ball over the first two drives, that's hard, makes it really hard. Put the defense in a bind early like that. Um, we can't do that. We can't do that. We got EXCU better. We got EXCU better early. Especially, Um, we gotta stop digging ourselves these holes and uh, you know we can get it fixed. There. Didn't look like you had a lot of time to throw them today, a lot of pressure. Was it tough
having enough time? Um? You know, they had a good pass rush, good pass rush, and um, you know, like I said, we we got down early, um and made it tough on ourselves. So obviously, especially late in the game, we were we were forced to throw the ball and then you know they were painting their ears back and UM, there's things I can do better. I gotta have better pocket presents and help those guys out as well. So um, but at the end of the day, we just got
all all be better. Seven in the second quarter, they rushed the corner off the edge on you uh, game the way it was that just a situation where you gotta you gotta see him or I mean, yeah, I gotta see that and make the right protection call. In the fourth quarter, he threw a team to Nelson. Um did you catch it? Did you feel like the effort when the ball was there? And what did you see on the play? Well, I wish I thought we had a touchdow when I threw it, I didn't see the
end result. Um, I was on the ground, so I didn't didn't get a chance to see. But um, you know, I when I threw it, I thought we had had a good one there. But I gotta make a better throw obviously and hopefully get him in the end zone next time. What did they do to take Zach away today? Three quarters? He was Yeah, zero catches. They didn't really do anything unusual. Honestly, they played their defense. They play it well. Um, she we barely had the ball the
first half. We shot ourselves in the foot, got ourselves down, and you know, they didn't really like I said, they didn't do anything out of out of the ordinary. We just gotta, you know, stay on the field and be better early on. Especially how do you was playing the way this team starting games because Doug made the change in terms of getting the ball first, and he gets still and Bela, that sucks. It definitely sucks. It's it's
something that we got to get fixed. And um, you know, I thought, you know, we came out to moving the ball, we were doing some good things, and then the fumble happen. Um, And that stuff happens. That stuff happens, but it's unfortunate. And then the next drive the same thing. You know, I fumbled. I gotta protect the ball better. Um, And so those things are tough. You know, it's a good defense. They made a couple of plays there early and then
got us in a hole. Where's two losses. He's experienced here, where's the ring for you? I'd probably agree. I'd probably agree. I mean, especially back to back, the way we've played. Um, there's things we gotta fix, for sure, there's things we gotta fix. But I'm confident that we can. I'm confident. It's a long season and UM, we can get these things fixed and get get her going in the right direction. Those are fixable things. Because I've been with these guys.
I've been with these guys. I know it we're all capable of I know. Um, if we all just stay together, we can we can bounce back. And um, you know, we had a rough night. At the end of the the day, we had a rough night. We're all gonna own it and move on and learn from it. Um. But again, I'm extremely confident to get this thing going in the right direction. Frustrated, UM, a little embarrassed. You know, we we we didn't show up. We didn't show up. They
beat the crap out of us, and we gotta be better. Um, But like I said, I'm confident that will get things fixed. Um. You know, this is a this is a ticktoff group. We're gonna we're gonna rebound from it. And uh, you know, I'm confident we'll be all right. Of course, back to back bad losses, a couple with like grumblings coming out of the locker room this week, Well we need the speculation that there's a fractured group. Um, what what do
you say? I love that locker room. I have a lot of confidence in the guys, and UM, I really think that these losses obviously you never want to lose, but I think it's gonna pull us together, you know. And I think it's gonna, um really cause us to look ourselves in the mid in the mirror individually, UM, and and take ownership of a lot of things. But I think it'll pull us together and as a family. UM. You know, the leaders got to step up and make
sure everyone's in this together. And I'm confident that we'll do that. And So from where you stand, what's the biggest problem with this team right now? Execution? UM, It's hard to pinpoint one thing. Obviously, when you lose the way we did tonight, UM, execution was was poor. It was very poor on the offensive side of the ball, you know. And UM, that's a good team at the end of the day. That's that's a good football team. And when you dig yourself a hole like that, and
it's hard to come out of. Early on there was it seemed more running and passing m bocus the reason for that, UM, I guess I don't know if that's actually true or not. I thought it was a pretty balanced approach, you know, we go into each each game trying to be balanced. UM. And I thought we were moving the ball effectively both through the through the air and on the on the ground. UM. And, like I said,
those turnovers. Those turnovers skilled us, and you know we did get the one drive going there, Um, but then after that it was tough sledding for us. Overall. How do you feel like you played the night? You gotta be better, Um, what was the three turnovers that that can't happen. I gotta be better with that. I gotta protect the ball, um, and I gotta be better leading this team for sure. On the first drive deep past al Sean, did you want that challenge? Do you think
that I couldn't tell. I couldn't tell. Um. It's always frustrating when you see a flag and then they pick it up. But I couldn't see the jumbo tron. It's ginormous above me. I can't even see what's going on, So I have no it's near here. In our graf him, thank you guys, Okay, like quarterback, like head coach, taking responsibility for this one. Frustrated, a little embarrassed. They beat
the crap out of us. I admire his honesty, I admire his candor on that, and I really love that he said this is a ticked off group right now, and I think that's probably a great place for this team to be like any any reflections on what Carson had to say. I mean listening handle word like you pretty much handles it every week. And that's what a quarterback should do is pretty much put all the blame on yourself and take responsibility. That's what what good leaders do.
He talked about, you know, the execution again and and you know, not getting off to a fast start, and I know, you know, you know they want to um, but for whatever reason, they just can't get a clicking early. You know, some of his throws were a little bit off there early in any game that you want, you like to see him sort of get those either down
or get it out of his hands quicker. But you know, I thought, once you had to turnovers early in the game, it really is difficult to really stick within a game plan that's going to allow you to have a balance attack through the running game and the passing game. And once they became all throws, it's just difficult. You know, you said it best when I think when you look at at this team and it's a ticked off team
right now. And the first thing I wanted to ask you, like was the best teams you've been on when you have a loss like this, what is that atmosphere? Like, what is that? What is it that you would want it to look like? You don't want to be in that situation, but what do you want it to look like in the locker? And then I guess the next couple of days, Well, what you hope for is that people you open that your teammates, it's quiet, and get back to work, right. You know, you want to make
sure that you're focused. There's gonna be an edge pretty much to everyone. And those are the type of teams we played on. We lost the game. It was not fun to come to work. It just you know, it made for the weeks to be longer because practice was much harder. You know, things are different in today's NFL than it was obviously when I played. But there's enough
veterans on this team that believe in each other. And this is a team that's been in the postseason the past two seasons, so they know how to dig themselves out of this hole. It's just a matter of continuing, continuing to believe in one another and don't start fingerpointing. You know, if you got to get in here and do extra film, start doing it. You know, get in here and get extra film in. If you need to get healthy to get back on the field, you need
extra treatment. Start getting the extra treatment. But the biggest thing you do is you pull closer together. You know, the moment you start pointing fingers in the moment you start looking at your teammates side out and wondering, man, can't you catch the ball or can't you make a tackle, that's when things go awry, and that's when the season starts to unravel. So I think this is a group starting off with Doug as the head coach here, this is a group that typically pulls closer when things start
to go bad. So they have recent history, no question to draw from, and so I think they'll be okay. Yeah, that is kind of a consistent theme with this team, is that they don't point the fingers at each other when things are not going well. We are going to take a quick break, friend. We will catch up with you a little bit later in the show, and yeah, stay with us. On the other side of this break

Come and get it back me the official supermarket of the Philadelphia Eagles. Hey there, thanks for joining us on the postgame show presented by Rico.
And as we turned to our Rico review, fran Duffy is taking us inside of the Dallas Goddard touchdown, the touchdown for the Eagles in this loss to the Cowboys. Goddard bouncing back from fumbling early in the game, having that short memory and getting that touchdown. Here's a closer look at that with fran Duffy in the RICO Review. Thanks Amy. Now let's get to that touchdown, the first
touchdown of the game for the Eagles. In this game, they're down fourteen nothing, and now you're going to see really creative play call and also great execution from everybody up front. We've seen Miles Sanders, we just saw him last week score a touch down where you had him running down the seam on basically a quasi wheel route out of the backfield, and the other two routes that were complimentary was a jet sweep out of the slotsy of the jet sweep action, and you had a deep
over route to hold the safety. So this is the same concept, but the Eagles have a little new twist here out of this set because you've got Jordan Howard in the backfield a split gun set. Instead of the jet suite, You're actually gonna have Jordan Howard go to the flat. That's gonna save that same kind of purpose here for this Eagles offense. Try and get the eyeballs of the linebackers into the backfield to the left side. You're still gonna get that deep over route, and you're
still gonna get the wheel route from Miles Sanders. So those are the three key routes here, and the idea is you've got to beat the free safety who's in the deep middle of the field. The Dallas Cowboys are a big, single high team, a lot of Cover one, a lot of Cover three, So you've got to be able to beat this guy, the deep safety who's just off the screen. So the Eagles are hoping that they're to get a big match up here with Dallas Goddard at the athletic tight end, one on one with Layton
vander esh because they've seen this. The Dallas Cowboys have seen the Eagles run this play numerous times. They're at it twice last week. They've run it five or six times throughout the course of the season. So when you see Miles Sanders in the shotgun, if you're one of these linebackers, you are alert right away to the wheel route, and they were counting on that. So we're gonna let this run and you're gonna see Carson Wentz. They're gonna send Jordan Howard from left to right. He's gonna stare
at that safety in the middle of the field. Make sure he's there. Take a peek at Miles Sanders the safety moves. You can see he's in no place to defend this throw. And the Eagles score touchdown over the top from Carson Wentz to Dallas Goddard. Big play to pull the Eagles within a touchdown here in the first quarter. And thanks for and great stuff as always, going a deeper dive into the game and the Rico review there. Dallas Goddard featured in that one. When we come back,
we've got the Toyota Player of the Week nominees. If you vote for that, you may window free Toyota. So stay with us. We'll be right back. Are you on the road? And I hate the road? Vine was Rocky. Ain't gonna break my shod. Know what I'm gonna I got it. Sometimes we prosper most when we help others. We respect that because it's sunt on their bank. Respect as a carna. You can go look at that preachlay, let me help me. Come, don't go out man. In a minute, me a pretty penny, your favorite you can
the greatest moment in the world. He never Now is your chance to vote for the Toyota Player of the week, go to Philadelphia Eagles dot com slash Toyota Player of the Week to cast your vote and get a chance at a brand new Toyota. This week's nominees for the Eagles Toyota Player of the Week, it's Derek Barnett, Jordan Howard, and Jalen Mills. Jalen Mills making his return to the field after almost a year off, almost a full year off his last game October twenty eighth of last year
against the Jagson London. Great to see the Green Goblin back out on the field and making plays, looking like looking like his old self out there. Ike, It's good to see Jayon back out there. Great to see him get an interception in his first game, So I guess he would get my vote. Although Derek Barnett, I thought, I mean that sack guy. Oh yeah, that was pretty big early in the game. Yeah. I think Mills has you know the play, but he also has you know
the story. Swears the bank collar yea a lot. Yes, one of the bright spots, something for the Eagles to build on as they move forward. Um, let's take a look ahead, we uh as we wrap up this show. Of course, we'll be back here next week to discuss the matchup with the Bills, the third and final game of this three game road trip. Here, um the five and one Bills ike, which is not something I thought I would say. Though. They don't really have a win against a good team, so that record is a little
deceiving there. They beat the Dolphins, they beat the Bengals, they beat the Jets, the Giants loss to the Patriots. So what do you see from this? They are much improved. I want to give them some credit on that, but they do not have a good win. What do you see from this matchup? Very good defense. Buffalo has. You know Sean McDermott. We're very familiar with coach McDermott, being a former Eagles coach and a former Carolina defensive coordinator.
Josh Allen quarterback, runs around a lot, can make plays with his legs. But they like to win with their defense and they don't give up a ton of points. They don't mind playing games, you know, seventeen thirteen, nineteen to sixteen. They try to take care of the ball and force you into making mistakes. I mean, they were in a tough game today versus Miami, and then Miami just started turning the ball over, and that's what Buffalo
relies on, is that defense. They aren't going to take a lot of chances with the young quarterback up there because he's still learning a position, but that is a tough place to go up there and plays as a team. That'll be another tough road game, but a game I think that's winnable. A game I think that's winnable. I think this would be the best offense other than the Patriots that the Jets, I mean that the Buffalo Bills have faced. Yeah, absolutely, And yeah, I think low scoring
is kind of their mode. That defense loaded with talent that they have slowly acquired through several drafts, and they're really starting to put it altogether there. If you're the Eagles, you're on this flight home, you're looking ahead to Buffalo. Now, what is the mentality to flush this one, look ahead and kind of finish this little road stretch strong? Well, I mean, you got two straight weeks of losses, right, so this one is hurting a little bit more. Knowing
it was on national TV. The way the game unfolded, you know, I thought Carson summed it up pretty well that you know, they felt like they got embarrassed tonight and didn't show up. So that's how the majority of the team is going to fill after a loss like this. Quite frankly, I don't even know if I would watch much of the film of this game, because not a whole lot went right tonight, and you kind of want to, you know, get this thought out of your mind and
get focused on Buffalo as quickly as possible. So I would imagine those guys will being here tomorrow looking at film, trying to get this Cowboys game and this taste out of their mouth, trying to get to Buffalo as soon as possible. Yeah, went saying well said in my opinion that it's a ticked off group there. I'm sure it's going to be a really interesting environment around here at
the Novacare Complex throughout the week. There's gonna be a lot of good content on Philadelphia Eagles dot com and all the platforms, so you're gonna want to follow us all week long leading up to that game. And of course we will be right back here as always a half hour before kickoff. That'll be twelve thirty pm on Sunday,
as the Eagles are on the road at Buffalo. We will have the Kickoff Show presented by Exalta and us Always right back here after the game to break it all down on the postgame Show presented by Rico for I Greece. I'm Amy Campbell. We will see you next week.
