I almost thought we were gonna have the Miracle of the Meadowlands number four. Welcome to the Postgame Show, present and by Rico here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com Chris McPherson alongside Fran Duffy. So the Eagles lose sixteen to ten. Christian Pago, the newly signed linebacker basically coming on just to play this fourth preseason game, recovered a fumble when the handoff went awry. The Eagles had one last chance

there in the red zone. Dan Evans of Bryce Strecks on fourth down incomplete in the end zone, and the Eagles lose sixteen to ten. So they finished the preseason two and two. That's now in the rearview mirror. Fran, we can now look ahead to the regular season September tenth against the Washington Redskins. As exciting as that was, the preseason is over. We can now give ready for Week one. I think we're all excited here to take

on the Washington Redskins next Sunday down in Washington. It'll be very, very exciting to see that division matchup in Week one. There's a lot to talk about for that game. But first got something big this weekend. The roster cut down to fifty three players happens this weekend by Saturday four o'clock. It's a lot to talk about is beginning

into that period. We'll start to do that. In just a moment, we're gonna hear from head coach Doug Pearson and just a little bit, he'll recap what he saw really tonight, it was all about protecting the starters with the full ninety main roster at his disposal, he basically said, look, we're not gonna have the starters. We're pretty much talking most of the second team guys out there. I mean, there are some key players like Derek Barnett didn't shoot

up tonight. Okay, Basically tonight was let's get through the preseason healthy. A couple of roster jobs are still on the line, let those sort themselves out on the field, but by and large, get through tonight and look ahead to the regular season. But it was interesting because it provided a great challenge for the guys who did play, because the Jets for the first quarter play their starters.

They had their stars are both offense and defense, So we got to see these backups go against players who are still gonna be playing on Sundays moving forward here, so Fran, as we look past the preseason that's now done and start looking at what the Eagles had to do to get to the fifty three man roster max to him by Saturday's four pm deadline. A couple of key positions we want to look at. Why don't we

start at running back? And that was one coming into tonight where you had Danelle Pumphrey, Corey Clement pretty much it seemed like they're battling, possibly for one spot, maybe there's a way the Eagles keep two. But then you had five running backs total on the roster. What do you think is going to happen there? Especially with Clement

getting the start tonight. Yeah, I mean there was interesting to see Corey Clement get the start tonight, and you saw the rookie take some hard runs there in the middle of the field. He was able to run between the tackles, something he's done all summer long. And Mike Mayock said it on the broadcast, he thinks Corey Clement is gonna be on this football team. As you see the graphic beside me, you see that Corey Clement one of his locks to make the roster Donal Phumphrey on

the bubble should we should mention as well. Donald Humphrey left the game with a head injury was listening as questionable to return. We'll see how that impacts his status moving forward. But I think there is a way for the Eagles to keep all five running backs on this roster. Now will that happen? That remains to be seen. Well, we've got about forty eight hours to see. But I think there is a way for that to happen. You certainly can. The challenge for the Eagles is going to

be you're gonna have to go light elsewhere. And if you look at some of the position groups defensive line, where they are stacked both at end and tackle, offensive line, there's a lot of death there. You're gonna have to let go of some quality plays. I think either way, Fran, they're gonna be some good players who the Eagles might say, let's hope they make it onto the practice squad when they hit the waiver wire. Not gonna make it. They're

not gonna be able to get through. Other teams are gonna see what the Eagles have on tape here and say that's a good player. He may not make the Eagles, but he'll make our team. The one thing you might have to account for here is because the rosters are going right from ninety down to fifty three, you basically are going to have over one thousand, one hundred players hitting the wire at the same time. Personnel departments all

around the league. You look at the Eagles, you know led by hwar Roseman, Joe Douglas, you know Dwayne Joseph. On the pro personnel side, any wild the assistant director or a player of personnel. Those guys have been working around the clock the last few days kind of trying to guess who's going to be cut from each team and say, these are probably gonna be players who are

gonna be available, comes Sarady at four PM. So that's gonna be the biggest thing for the Eagles here is are there plays that they possibly could slide through now with a running back situation there if you say clements in you're trying to figure out what to do with Pumphrey. The case for Pumphrey, in my eyes, is not so much about me. What you've seen this preseason had a couple of good returns, one put one good kickoff return tonight You've seen him catch the ball at the backfield claimant.

There are just times where he doesn't have an opportunity to make plays. You've seen the ability to run in between the tackles, but maybe not on a consistent basis. To me, with him, it's not about twenty seventeen. You've got Darren Sprowles, You've got Wendell Small, but we've got la Garrett Blunt. I don't know what his role this year would be. It's more of a long term projection

for him. Yeah, no question about it. And that's why the Eagles used a seventh round choice to trade up in the fourth round, so spending two draft picks to bring Donal Pumphrey into the fold, because he's got that dynamic playmaking ability, the ability to be a matchup problem out in space. You saw him catch some passes out of the slot last week against the Miami Dolphins. I think that that's something that he can do early on. But now, like you said, it is a long term projection.

You're not worried about Donal Pumphrey in twenty seventeen. You're worried about how can he impact this team moving forward. Darren Sprowls in the back end of his career. Will he be here in twenty eighteen and beyond? Can he impact this team when Darren Sprawls moves on the thing? What Pumphrey is again? If you say, all right, well, maybe he's I can help us this year? Can we play with the practice squad? That's a case of do

you think he can get through the waiver wire? And that would be a gambled Eagles may have to evaluate over the next twenty four hours forty eight hours to see if we do put him on waivers. Would another team pick him up. The fact that the Beagles had to move up to him in the fourth round speaks to me that another team probably would say, we would love to have him on our team. Next position up for us here, wide receiver. Okay, one of the most

overhauled position groups in the entire offseason. Bring in on Alshon Jeffrey, bringing in Tory Smith. You have those two guys set as your starters on the outside. They trade away at Jordan Matthew, So maybe some questions about who will be the slot guy, but you figure Nelson Agilore is going to be the guy there. Mac Collins Special Team's Dynamo had the beautiful catch and run touchdown in the first game against the Packers. He's your fourth guy.

What happens after that? In your estimation, Frank Well, I think it really comes down to is what do you really like at that position and what can the Eagles go to use. I think you have Marcus Johnson, who's got size and speed, the ability to impact the game vertically down the field. Then you've got Bryce Tracks who's been in the league for one year. He's also got that speed, a little bit smaller than what you have in Marcus Johnson. And then you have Shelton Gibson, who

you spent a fifth round pick on this year. He's got the speed to attack the field downfield, vertically, and he's just had issues with drafts throughout the course of the summer. I will say this about Sheldon Gibson, He's gotten better throughout the course of the summer. Every single step during the process, he has gotten better. He's gotten more consistent catching the football. He had a couple of nice grabs here tonight. I think Shelton Gibson has served

himself well. It's a matter of just a numbers game right now. He has he done enough to get ahead of Marcus Johnson and Bryce Tregs. Fran You do a phenomenal job of value these guys. Before the draft, Sheldon Gibson didn't seem my kid to run a loud routes. His route tree was limited. Do you think that played a part and maybe his slow progression early on in training camp in the preseason. Yeah, I mean, it's something he talked about. He was very open about that with

reporters throughout the course of the last few months. Is that he was not asked to run a wide variety of routes in West Virginia. He ran go routes, he ran slants, he ran screens, and after that it was kind of a mixed bag. So now you see him coming to the NFL, and now he's got to run, you know, exponentially more routes than what he was asked to at the college level, and he's got to doing at a much crisper, more efficient rate. It's just something that he was not asked to do at college, and

that's a learning curve. And so what you happens is is when players aren't necessarily doing something that's second nature to them. Now they're not doing everything else is fast, You're thinking through everything, and it's just it's it all kind of compounds in snowballs and in factor in. He struggled with catching the ball, and I think that's just an issue where it was everything was kind of piling on.

It's like a snowball effect, like you would say fran where he's trying to learn the routes, he's trying to learn the offense, trying to be in the exact right position, where now on top of it, he's struggling just to hold onto football and it's just probably mentally he was just drowning at that point. So it seems like that he was picking up the pace and kind of developing towards the end of the preseason. Again, the Eagles have

had so much talent at this position. You probably don't see a spot for him right now on the fifty three man roster. But again this is a situation where if the Eagles we gonna want to keep five running backs, I don't know if you can keep a six receiver. You could, yes, but again you're going to cheat yourself probably another position. But still, Marcus Johnson a strong training camp. I mean early on he was running with the first team unit when guys like Alshon Jeffrey was sidelined with

a shoulder injury. I mean, he was one of the first guys in there, so he certainly is flashed in the eyes of coaches. You had the beautiful touchdown, the forty one yard touchdown tonight to cap off the preseason, so really really good situation for him. Our next position here, as we continue down the list is going to be at a linebacker, So we're looking at the defensive side of the football. Now where you look at the linebacker position and you bring up what Mike Mayock and what

he thinks what the Eagles will do. Here, you got the starters at this point here with Jordan Hicks in the middle. You got the two outside guys with Michael Kendricks and Nigel Bradham. But they think that deaf guys were the big question coming into tonight's game because you weren't quite sure about whether or not is Joe Walker going to be your backup there. Nag Goods like your swing. I like all three positions. Words heath into it makes

Don Cherry Commo gruge Hill. Nathan Gary, how do you think this kind of selled itself here tonight, here Fran with this situation where you pretty much had all the backups going in there and playing the extended amount of time and then try and figure out where the guys gonna fit in. I thought Joe Walker did a good job flying around the football tonight. You know. I thought Commo Gruge Hill played fierce and Downhill was very aggressive. This is the position to me where the eas An

have some tough decisions to make. But I think also this is a position that could I think be you know, kind of looked over and kind of addressed throughout the weekend, because it's not really just about the roster cutdown to fifty three on Saturday at four pm. Once the waiver wire goes through on Sunday and you can start claiming the players from the other teams, It's not just the Eagles, you know, worrying about third players getting caught and try

and slide them to the practice squad. These are gonna try to post guys from other teams. They are trying to do the same thing. And I certainly think for Fran, linebacker will be one of those spots that are going to be addressed. Yeah, I think it's certainly possible. And when you see the amount of reps that they got for some of these young players at that position. You talk about some of these young guys, Nate Gary the rookie,

and then three second year players. You've got Don Cherry who was undrafted out of Villanova last year, Joe Walker out of Oregon was a seventh round draft choice, and then Commu gruge Hill was a sixth round draft pick by the New England Patriots. So four guys all bring different skill sets. They all have the ability to play on special teams. But now it's how else can you impact this roster? And I think all four guys have really served themselves well throughout the course of the summer.

Joe Walker, I think you said it earlier. He really flashed tonight. You saw his ability to get downhill make plays in the run game. Don Cherry has made plays every single week here this preseason. Kamu gruge Hill probably the most athletic of the group. Nate Gary very athletic as well, a college safety, much like gruge Hill, has the ability to play special teams. Was a starter on all four units this week and last week. So Nate Gary is a guy that I think, like Mike Mayock said,

has the ability to stick on this roster. Now it's a matter of who who else on the back end can fill in. Interesting on Mayock's list there, that Walker was the one bubble guy, yeah, of that group. So maybe special teams plays a factor there, because that's gonna be a big component for these backup line backers. Because again, if you go with your base package of Hicks, Bradham and Kendricks, okay, you go to the nickel, it's gonna be Hicks and Bradham and they're gonna play nickel more

than fifty percent of the time. So you figure that you need all those backup guys to thrive on special teams. Because even Kendricks last year, I think had about twenty seven percent of the snaps played on defense because he was not in the first team nickel package. So to me, you have to make sure that those guys are gonna be able to contribute in the third phase of the game.

I think that's gonna be a big factor when they try to figure out the best fifty three man roster possible here, no question, and that's why Como gruge Hill has really got a leg up because he was a guy who was a core four special teamer a year ago. Nate Gary this summer has proven to be that guy. Joe Walker and Don Cherry more on the backup across the board in those units. So that's why to me, those first two Como Gruge Hill and Nate Gary kind of have a leg up on Joe Walker and Don Cherry.

We'll see how it plays out though, because Jim Schwartz he's gonna need some depth a linebacker, and if he feels that Joe Walker or Don Cherry offers better value as a linebacker than those other two do, then there's gonna be some There's gonna be some discussions had. Let's go to the defensive backfield. Okay, another position that has been really overhauled since really the start of training camp.

Here you look at cornerback and the stars there you feel pretty good round Darby on the one side and Jail Mills on the other. Patrick Robinson, he was a player who I was wondering if we might see him tonight. No, did not play. Now again he says a lot, says a lot. Well, it's one of those things where he's been the league long enough, he's played the first three priests in games. He's been with you all offseason. I don't think you need to see him at this point.

I think you kind of knew what he was going to be at this point. But he has played very well since he was moved to the slot. Would you agree with that? I don't know. If I would say very well, he's played well enough, fair enough, I would say he's played well enough. I think I think he's found some there. That's the biggest star. It was very very up and down on the outside. I feel like he's stabilized the nickel position, and I think that's gonna be the big question really for the Eagles with the

cornerback position is who's gonna play that nickel spot. We know that Malcolm Jenkins can come down. You know they have Corey Grahams, so they have a quality third safety to put in there with Ronnie McCloud if they wanted to do that. But to me, it's one of those things where ideally, I think the Eagles would like to have a true corner in that position. If it's Patrick Robinson, maybe when you're facing some of the bigger slot receivers,

but the Eagles acquired Dexter McDougall from the Jets. We saw him make his debut tonight, and he's one of those smaller, quicker quarterbacks who when you're going up against the likes of the Jameson Crowder in Week one against Washington, the Cole Beasley's the Stirling Shepherds of the world, that's the guy you would want in there to match up against.

So possibly it's a guy a chess piece, so to speak, so that when you have the different matchups, you can kind of put something a little bit more in your favor, because that's one area where I would say that Malcolm Jenkins has struggled in the past. It's with those quicker, shiftier types of wide receivers. So if you figure you have your two guys on the outside, Rasul Douglas is making this team. The third round pick he started tonight, you got some quality playing time, but you know he's

gonna be in the mix. So I think it's almost like if you figure Robinson's there, who's gonna be the fifth corner? Is it gonna be C. J. Smith, who at one point was being discussed as a possible starter on the outside or voting for playing time on the outside. But of course that's before the Eagles got Ronald Darby, they got Dexter McDougal. Or is it going to be McDougall.

Is he gonna be the fifth guy? It's you to me if the Eels are making the trade this Layton training camp, you know in the preseason that they must have a plan for this guy. They scout him and Fran you've scouted him. You know you included all twenty two highlights of him and you're eagle eiding the sky column. You know what was your take when you evaluate him and saw what he's done so far in the preseason

with the Jets. Yeah, I think when you watched Dexter McDougal this preseason, you saw a player that was really kind of coming into his own in that scheme. It was his second year in that defense. He has missed so much time with injuries throughout the course of his career. He had an ACL, he had shoulder, he had soft tissue injuries in his hamstring and his groin. So he's been working his way back. But you see a quick, aggressive,

competitive kid. He could play inside or outside. He was a direct backup at both right corner and at the nickel spot for that New York Jets secondary before the trade. So he was certainly a player that I think they were depending on for depth purposes, and I think when you look at this Eagle secondary, I think he can fill a very similar role. I expect that he's going to be a factor, and I if I had to guess, I would think that Dex McDougald will be on this team.

I know Mike had him listed on his bubble. I'll be very interested to see where he ends up on this roster because again, can't go heavy, Mike Listen, Billy Brown is making as a fourth tight end. He mentioned the fifth running back. Are they gonna go heavy on the offensive line? You have the depth at linebacker, at link. It's it's tough. You got out. You're gonna have to cut some good football players, It's like you said, and that's where you want to be. If you're a growing

team like the Philadelphia Eagles. They're trying to build up this roster and bring in young talent. At some point you're gonna have to let go of talented players. And I think that's the situation they're in right Let's send it to Doug Pierson, head coach, speaking now at MetLife Stadium, then, well what you may do in yeah, you know, UM, listen, we've got we've got the next forty eight hours really um to really go back and and and have some

good conversation. Um. The thing is we want to be able to we want to be able to look at the entire body of work going back to April when these guys you know, came into our system and and and where they're at. So, um, we've got some time in front of us. UM, you know, but this this was some good film for these guys and some good uh opportunities, and we got to take a look at the whole thing. What I've running backs realistic to carry? Is it realistic? I don't know. I don't know. Um again,

that's something that we'll we'll evaluate. Um. You know, um could be based on other positions, but it's it's not out of the question. Well, he had a great workout pregame, so again he's he's he's right where he needs to be going into the season. So uh again, just decided to rest him. You've said before that you're not concerned about his elbow, but it seems like it's been lingering now for a while, maybe longer than we all expected.

Why is there no concern? Because I'm not concerned based on what I'm getting from the medical staff and based on Nick's feeling and the way he worked out again today, and um really through you know, this week in practice a little bit and kind of building himself up, there's there's no concern. Get the running back position. How difficult of a decision? Well, it's always difficult when you're when you're getting down to the last you know, a couple of players on your roster and and you know, um,

these guys, these guys battled hard tonight. They put some good tape out there. So again it's it's a matter of just going back and you know, under under calmer situations in the office, looking at the tape, going back and you know, having conversations with position coaches and and the personnel staff, and and then and then making the making the final decision. But these guys, uh, um did a lot of nice things. So again, the evaluation here in the next couple of hours and the next couple

of days will be very important. Patrick Robinson's case, who held him out tonight. You kind of uncles yesterday? Is is he the slack cowner back going forward? Yeah, Patrick's been doing a nice job. We feel real comfortable with him in the slot. And then the addition of ncdougle Um, so we feel comfortable there. I was returning kicks today. Uh, that was different from the first three games. Talk about

done Elle Humphrey. Yeah, again another another opportunity to see the field um and and again wanted to wanted to evaluate these guys that can play multiple positions, um in this football game. Put him in different spots. So you saw don Elle as a returner, you saw him as a receiver, you saw him in the backfield. So again, it just it just allows us to make a good

evaluation of him. How do you go about evaluating guys like a guy like Donelle who might be game what the game plan might help him more than another guy. How do you take that into account when you're watching at a value? Well, again it goes back to how I think how we use him in the spring um offensively? Um. You know, Uh, one thing about don Elle and this this is one thing I noticed when we first got him. He's a he's a he's a smart football player. He

gets it. He understands he can he can pick up the offense. That's why, uh, you know, comfortable with him in multiple roles. Um. And again it's just gonna be it's gonna be one of those decisions that we got to take in a lot of information. Um, you gotta go back and and watch all his all his touches from from OTAs through through this game tonight, and and uh do that with a lot of positions, you know, and and and make make that final judgment among the

wider seniors who jumped out at your hunt. Um, there are some good performances. I thought, uh, you know here tonight, I thought, thought Bryce again you know, bounced back and had a had had a pretty good, pretty good game. Um you know, uh, Greg Ward, I think is is another one that's been working, um, you know. And it was good really to get them all all some touches, um,

you know, some opportunities in this game. But I really think that Bryce did a nice job again you know, with with uh, with the game and with the game plan. Really Corey started to night played for the first quarter. Was there a plan behind that? Is that that should we take something from that that he played then or

now he was still available throughout the game. But again, you know, we needed to make sure that uh, um you know that donnell and Barron Marshall I thought did a great job late late in the game and a tough kid, tough runners. So um, all three of them, you know, Uh donnelle probably got the most work obviously, but at the same time, I wanted to see all three of those guys get get touches and get rushes in this game. Now you mentioned McDougald. You had two

practices with him and then tonight. Is that enough to get a sense of what he is for you? Yeah, and uh you know, we got to keep keep doing our research on him and and uh you know, keep studying his his Uh NOI the tape this week, but but in the past for him, and um, you know, he'll continue to grow in our system, grow with with Schwartz's defense, and uh you know as we move forward, um, you know, as we begin to really game plan and finalize some things, I think that uh things will will

kind of simplify just a little bit. And uh, um you know, feel comfortable with where he's at and where he's going in getting back the fulls What about his workout to night impressed me. Well, I thought the velocity, you know, the balls coming out of his hand nice, uh you know, nice spirals, accuracy, even the way he was moving in his drops. Um really uh um was was eye catching to watch and and uh um he

had no issues, so so very comfortable with that. Was this the plan all along to to see him work out and get a sense there as opposed to playing him. Yeah, and uh it kind of kind of reminded me a little bit of Carson last sitting out and he had a nice workout against the Colts or at pregame at the Colts game, and you know, he ended up being our day one starter, so a very similar situation. And uh, he did a nice job with the workout, and then we'll just keep him coming. What's the plan here for

these next few days? I mean, Hanking, what's the message to the players? Yeah, you know the message and really the message here in the in the locker room tonight was you know, I appreciate I appreciate all their efforts throughout camp and really throughoutas and and there were some

some great efforts. Uh you know, the effort tonight was there, um and and and really it's I wanted them to make decisions tough on us, you know, and and these battles that you guys are are talking about, we wanted to make it, make it tough, make these make these decisions hard, and um, you know, these next these next two days will be very important obviously for our football team and really the lives of you know, some young men that that were eventually gonna have to let go. Thanks,

thank you. All right, so welcome back to the postgame Show presented by Rico. There's head coach Doug Pearson addressing the media following the Eagles sixteen to ten lost in New York Jets. But again, it's all about now getting ready for the roster cut down, which is due by Saturday at four pm, and then looking ahead to the regular season opener against Washington on September tenth. All right, welcome back to the postgame show, presented by Rico Chris McPherson alongside fran Duffy. Doug Pierson addressed the media and not to be big picture topics. I think we're gonna hear from Doug on Monday, but everyone now is eyeing the Saturday roster cutdown again. Heals have to get to the

fifty three player maximum by four PM. One player who I think we can pretty much safely say it's gonna be on the team, Patrick Robinson at cornerback to me, it was a situation where we talked about this earlier. The Eagles knew what he is. The Eagles have seen him in the slot. They see him on the outside, they just had to kind of figure out at this point seeing the other guys where he would fit into the mix. And Doug Peterson pretty much saying that they

feel real comfortable with him in the slot. So it looks like to open the season at least Jim Shorte will have that as an option for him. Yeah, I think so. And I think you can also throw in what he said at the end, which he said, Hey, we feel really good and comfortable with Patrick Robinson the slot, and also what we got from McDougall here. So I think when he threw that in there, I think that shows that they have some faith in Dexter McDougall, who

they did trade for this past weekend. So I'll be really interested to see who ends up making it from that secondary because you mentioned some of these names, and a guy like Jaylen Watkins. You know, he's got the ability to play safety, he could play corner, he could play out side. You know, does he have the ability to play nicol at a high level. I mean, he's shown that he can play all three. He's played special

teams for this team in the past. I'll be very interested to see if he's on the outside looking in once we get to the end of Saturday. But a player that really stood out tonight, and I thought, if you're going to pick a player that stood out tonight, he might have been number one. And he flashed early, all right. So other positions of note that Doug addressed

in his press conference. He talked about running back Dannelle Pumphrey basically said they need to go through all of his touchet from the OTAs you know, said there was a real smart football player. They kind of put a lot on his plate early on. I mean I remember beginning a training camp, we would see him in those two back sets, the pony set with Darren Sprowles, and it pretty much made it seem like that they're going to try to work somehow work him onto the field.

So whether that or not is still the case, I don't know. But it's not just a four game evaluation for Pumphrey. They pretty much you have to go back and look at the entire body of work from the time that he arrived in rookie camp. Yeah, no question, they're gonna have to look at all of his touch is from the start of the summer until now. And I think that that's going to be a big thing for Donna L. Pumphrey and his chance to make this

football team. And it's like you mentioned earlier, it's not just about twenty seventeen, it's about what can he do for this team in twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen and beyond. If they don't feel that, if they don't feel that strongly about him that right now at this point, then maybe he doesn't make it. But all overall, I think when you look at the body of work and what he's done over the course of his career in college too. Now, yeah,

it wasn't a great summer. It wasn't exactly what he would have expected out of himself, but I don't I still think that there's talent there with Donall Pumphrey. We saw some flashes of it tonight. Hope to see more of it in the future. Interesting names brought up by Doug when he was asked who shined a wide receiver tonight. He started out with Bryce Trekes, who had a great start to the preseason, balled injury, and then made a couple of nice plays tonight helped get the Eagles in

position to possibly tie the game. Or win the game. They're late. Eagles couldn't come through, came up just short. But still, you know, we look at the Eagle roster, a wide receiver so much better than a year ago, it might just be a numbers game for Tregs. Yeah, I agree, And you got to give a lot of credit to Mike Grow, the receiver's coach, for what he's been able to do with a guy like Bryce Tregs. All these players at that position have gotten so much

better over the course of this offseason. And when you look at Tregs, he's gotten better. It's a route runner. He's gotten more consistent at the catch point. He got better as a blocker. He saw that big block he made against Green Bay. He ended up getting fined for it,

but we'll leave that alone. I think what Bryce Treggs has gotten better in every single facet of his game, and the fact that he is where he is right now, I think it's a testament to him and it's a testament to Mike Row because honestly, going into the summer, I think he was kind of an afterthought by most of us, wasn't really given a shot really to make this fifty three and He's really kind of put his stamp on this summer and now I think he's very

much in the mix. Certainly definitely in the mix, and he could be one of those guys who, if he doesn't make the Eagles roster, probably could have picked up somewhere else. Again, he was a waiver claim for the Eagles a year ago and spent his workie season with the team. The last bit news from Ducks conference the backup quarterback position. Very confident Nick Foles is going to be the guy. He had a pregame workout and you picked up on something that Doug said comparing it to

a Carson Wentz workout from a year ago. Yeah. I thought that that was a great answer by Doug, and it's true because honestly, only matters what the coaches feel and what they have all the information on Nick Foles, and they know what he's capable of mentally, They know how he feels about this system and how well he's been able to comprehend it during his time here. He's been in the system before, and they know all the

things that are going on with his injury. If he had a good workout today, which Doug Peterson said, he did before the game. They don't feel the need to expose him to any kind of extra injury there against the New York Jets. They've got their starting defense out there against your backup offensive line. No need to put Nick Foles out there. If you feel good about him being your backup quarterback, give him another week of rest. He'll be able to rep with the starters and the

backups this week in practice. Let's get Nick Foles completely healthy. I don't think there's any issue there. Went just ruined the preseason for everyone last year. First game performance goes out there against Tampa Bay, plays a couple of cores, cracks some ribs, doesn't play the rest of preseason, and you know the rookie from the FCS school as your day one starter, who thunkin all right, we're gonna take our last breakup on the other side, should we preview

the match up with Washington? I can do that all day. I'm ready. We'll look into the schedule right after these messages here on the postgame show presented by Rico. This is Robin a real patient. looking at the schedule. Finally, it's the regular season September tenth, a Fedics Field and landover in Maryland. The Eagles have Yeah. I said a little problem with Washington last couple of seasons, so hopefully maybe this time around the love Kirk Cousins number. Yeah, it's gonna be a really fun game to watch because it's a division rival. Week one, A lot on the line. Very early in this season for both teams. Washington had

a lot of turnover. They lose their offensive coordinator and Sean mcvayh They lose their their first NFL team in history to lose two thousand yard receivers in the same offseason in pr Garson and to Shaan Jackson. They lost some players on defense. They say it's a lot. There's a lot going on there. With Washington, they lost their center Spencer Long this summer and the preseason. So they've got rookie fifth round pick and Chase Rouyer starting their inside.

The offensive line hasn't played well. Terrell Pryors had drives for weeks. I told you I could do this all day. Uh. It's It's gonna be a fun game though, because Washington their offense, They've They've got a lot going on for them in terms of the way that they use all their tight ends. They do a lot of different things in terms of their formation variation and taking advantage of matchups.

So it will be a fun game to watch. I'm excited to see how both teams perform on third down because that was so big for both teams last year. In that game, the the Washington Redskins really got after Carson Wentz. They tried to blitz him twenty three third down passes for Carson Wentz last year in those two games. Four team blitz is from Washington, so I would expect more of the same this year from the Redskins. Here's

the thing, go back to Carson Wentz. Remember the first game down there, who was the right tackle Holpuli body vitizes first NFL game, first NFL start, and obviously he had the rough beginning with Ryan Kerrigan being Brent Selleck for the first act. You know, Wentz's jersey was ripped, you know, which is a real bad start to that game, and it seems like they've never gotten track. And then you also have to figure when you're looking at Washington

and its offense. Sure, Jay Gruden is the offensive mine to head coach, but they lost Sean mcbagh, the offensive coordinator who had done wonders with Kirk Cousins. He's now the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. The Eels will see him later on in the year. But you mentioned that they lost Pierre Garson to Shawan Jackson. Jordan Reid has been banged up throughout the course of his career. You know, how are the Eals going to be able to defend the firepower and will Kirk Cousins be the

same guy. I mean, it seems like that every year now with Kirk Cousins. It's some kind of drama regarding the contract. He's back under the franchise tag once again. He kind of knows he ys to have another big year to justify being signed by somebody long term. So you know there's gonna be some pressure on him to go off this season on the right foot. And you don't have the security blanket around you on the outside,

could make a world of difference. Yeah, And they were depending on Josh Doxon, who was their first round pick a year ago in twenty sixteen. He's missed most of the summer again with another injury, another hams string and groin injury for him. So that's going to be an issue for them as they go into this regular season. Are they gonna be able to rely on Josh shox And if not, you've got Terrelle Pryor, who again is

his first year in the system. Is not the same kind of player as what they had in Pierre Garson or in DeShawn Jackson. Just a different skill set from Terrell Prior and then you've got Ryan Grant, You've got Jamison Crowder in the slot. They've got pieces. Their tight ends are very dynamic. I'll be very interested to see what they're able to do offensively because this pass rush for the Eagles going up against this Washington offensive line, I think it's gonna be probably the make or break

matchup in this entire game. I'm excited to see a takeout. I cannot wait to see Fletcher Cox against Brandon Shuff. That's a heavyweight showdown right off the bat. You know, Schurff played out standing football in two AS sixteen. I think he could argue at the better of Cox in the matchups last year. Butcher Cox is gonna be looking to prove something this season, and you have Tim journa get down next to him helping take some of the pressure off. That should help out number ninety one that

much more so.
