We can all breathe just a little bit easier. In a must win game. The Eagles were down nineteen to three in the second quarter, Well they rallied back by scoring outscoring the Giants twenty two to three over the final twenty minutes of the football game to eke out a twenty five to twenty two victory over in New York to improve to five and six on the season. Hello everyone to welcome to the postgame show presented by Rico.
I'm Chris McPherson alongside former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese, and Yes, the Eagles had to have this game, and they found a way despite an undermanned defense, despite not scoring in the first quarter once again, to beat a Giants team that was full of confidence and believing they were gonna come into the link and end the Eagles season. I
gotta tell you, Chris, right off the bat. You know, Doug has been here for a little over two and a half years, and I know they're coming off winning the Super Bowl, But I can't think of four or five more wins that he's had during his time here that's been more impressive than today's victory. You talked about it being a must win game. We obviously you know that getting down nineteen to three to this Giants team and then finding a way to battle back in this game.
Really impressed with the perseverance of this team, the fact that they didn't give up the will to fight and not let this season go down just yet. So just an impressive win. Obviously, we'll dive through the numbers, we'll dive through the play. There's obviously things to improve upon, but I'm talking about a gutty, gutty, gritty win from a football team that really hasn't had a lot of bright moments this season. They find a way to get to five and six in a game that they had
to have at home. Again, I can't overstate this. Down nineteen to three, you know, I didn't know when they were down nineteen to three. I was hoping, but I wasn't sure they had it in them to come back and win this game. And just an impressive win, a little something to build off of, get some momentum going into next week's big game against Washington. Just a just a gritty, tough win. I think one of the best wins under Dougs. It is like, because you haven't seen
too many wins like this during Doug's error. Okay, last season, when the Eagles were steamrolling opponents on the way to the Super Bowl, they didn't have a lot of close contests like this. So we look at the boss score here again the Eagles coming out with the twenty five
to twenty two victory. The time of possession really took place in the second half of the ball game as the Eagles relied on the ground game and the Eagles believe are not out gaining the Giants in ground yards by a margin of one twenty seven to one twenty six, which if you watched the first half and saw Saquon Barkley in the way he was running the football, especially after he scored the fifty one yard touchdown, you didn't
think that that was going to happen. But a lot of eerie similarities between the Week three Eagles Giants game at the Link a year ago to this one here, and the biggest one for me is Jake Ellie coming out at the end with the franchise record sixty one yard field goal to get the Eagles over the hump, and they really took off from that point on. Today. Once again, Jake Ellie coming through in the clutch of forty three yard field goal with only twenty two seconds left,
season on the line once again and the Eagles. We don't know what this will mean down the road, but the biggest thing is the Eagles are in five and six. They have Washington next Monday night in prime time, and they are right where they need to be, not where they want to be, but where they need to be. At this point with the NFC East still within the reach,
they are just one game out of first place. Washington tie with Dallas for first place with the six and five record, the Eagles are right in the hunt and they have Washington and Dallas over the next two weeks. But, like you said, like a lot of things for this team to build upon, But the biggest thing tonight is that they survive. That was the biggest thing, especially after being down nineteen to three. Yeah, keeping your season season alive,
I mean, that's what it's all about. You know. They found themselves in this position where basically over the last month or so of a season they're gonna be in playoff form. I mean, because they need just about every win they can get to sort of find themselves in that final weekend with an opportunity to play in the postseason this season. So the great thing is their next game is at home as well, against another divisional opponent that they'll probably probably be favored against, a game they
should get national TV primetime Monday night football. Certainly something to build off of. And that's really how they have to look at this thing. They have to look at the rest of their schedule, as it's a week to week season. Find a way to keep your season alive. Things around you're going to fall into place. You know. The one fortunate thing we have going for us this year is that no one is running away in this division, which is going to keep a lot of the teams
in the hunt. And so the Eagles, although they aren't playing at a level, they certainly have enough time to sort of get themselves to that level as long as they keep fixing the little things. I look at that graphic there, Chris, and the first thing that stood out to me was zero turnovers. Zero turnovers. They came into this game plus nine and the turnover differential. That's no
way you can survive in this league. If they're fortunate to be at four and six with that type of turnover differential, whereas they were fourth in the league at a plus eleven. I believe last year taking care of football. Although they got the one big interception from Malcolm right before the half, the big key there to me was they took care of the ball on the offensive side of the ball, didn't give the Giants any short fields, any easy points, and that allowed them to claw their
way back into this game. Wasn't pretty, but when they finally got their rhythm going there and they were able to find their way with a w in the second half. You make a great point about style when it comes to winning games in the league. Like last week, the Eagles were throttled by the Saints, it doesn't matter. It's one loss in the grand scheme of things, and they knew after that game they were going to still be in the mix. The key was not to allow that
loss to hang over their heads. And maybe you could say it did a little bit there in the first half or so, but the Eagles were able to get a spark there late in the second quarter, and like you said, it was just getting back to fundamentals, making sure you have sound tackling, getting off the field on third down on defense, and then going to the ground game and sustaining drives on offense. A lot of key
third down conversion in this foot ball game. A lot of the elements that made the twenty seventeen offense special we saw once again here today. So again style points don't matter when it comes to the victory. The biggest thing is the Eagles get the victory by score twenty five to twenty two. And then next week they'll play Washington in a Monday night thriller with pretty much everything online for both teams because Washington lost its starting quarterback.
They were defeated by the Cowboys on Thanksgiving nights, so they're gonna be really ending a chance to bounce back. So two teams, and what better way than to handle your division business by having in a primetime showcase like they're gonna have a Monday Night. But a lot more to unpack here on the postgame show presented by Rico, we're gonna hear from head coach Doug Pearson and quarterback Carson Wentz Or also have a film breakdown Cursey of
Fran Duffy and Great Cosell. But first we're going to send it over to Lincoln Financial Field and welcome in Eagles Inspire Dave Spider and Amy Campbell. Now, Dave, I'm sure you've had a chance to catch your breath, But one of the takeaways for me from today is looking at the offensive side of the ball, Carson Wentz and the off it's getting the job done in the fourth quarter. Went throughout the course of the season, the team has
been criticized for not coming up big in clutch situations. Well, it's because they haven't come up big in clutch situations. So the criticism was just and I thought you mentioned it correctly just a little bit ago, Chris. The running game, the Eagles really leaned on it, and Josh Adams Corey Clement made it happen. Good screen game efficiency offensively really the key for the Eagles red zone efficiency as well. And I mean, what a difference between half one and
half two. Everything changed in this football game on the Malcolm Jenkins red zone interception Eagles. I'm sorry before that, Eagles go down and score the touchdown and then Jenkins has the interception, and then the Eagles take momentum into the half, into the second half, and I thought the offense had a terrific job controlling the clock, controlling the line of scrimmage and moving the football. Amy. You know, Dave talked about the offense and they certainly finally got
it together in that second half. I thought that the Eagles defense played outstanding in the second half as well as well as keeping them in the game in the first. Just your thoughts on Jim Schwartz and the scheme and things he were able to come up with considering he was shorthanded when you look at this secondary, Yeah, Ike, you and I are already very much on the same page there. That was kind of my big note there,
a tale of two halves. But the last few games we've seen kind of the opposite effect with the Eagles defense really keeping it tight in the first three quarters and then just not able to hang on until the end, allowing a lot of points. Kind of as games unwinded, you saw again that injury bug continues to hit the secondary, but it was that front seven that was really able to get pressure, stop the run. Take Eli Manning down.
That to me was huge that the defense continued to give the offense a chance while the offense was kind of working out the Kinkston able to get the ground game going Dave Amy touch on some of the decisions there from Coach Peterson and the staff there. But late in the game, Doug Peerson decides to go for it on the fourth down and Carson Wentz comes up big
with the throw to Nelson Agil over the middle. What did it mean for coach Peerson to go for in that situation when he was a little more conservative leading up to that point in the content? Yeah, I mean you're standing there, you're kind of watching, You're going. Well, if you punt it and you punt it into the end zone, you have a net of twenty two yards and the Giants still have a couple of minutes left. I think it was a decision you had to make,
very difficult decision. Short passing game, safe route by Nelson Aguil or middle of the field. Really, the Eagles had some success there from most of the day. Offensive line gave Carson some time he delivered to Nelson. I think
it's just call you had to make. I really didn't think about not going for it there, I mean right right well, in that situation especially, and we talked about this before the game that I wanted to see Doug Peterson being aggressive again and of course, we can't compare last year to this year because it's not the same personnel, it's not the same team. But one of the things that gave this team that juice, gave this atmosphere that juice was that aggressive mentality. The fans love it, the
players love it. And so to see that going for the two point conversions, going for it on fourth and one. Of course it helps when it works, but just to see that, I think was a big part of just the juice and the momentum, that swagger that you want to see from a team like this. Hey, Amy, looking at that offensive side of the ball, you know, everyone's screaming about running the football, committing to the running game.
I thought Doug did an ask me job, but at today talk about Josh Adams performance today as well as Corey Clement sort of being involved in the offense also, I thought that was a huge spark for them. Yeah, you saw. You know, we've kind of been waiting to see what's going to happen with Josh Adams all season.
A guy who makes the team, who shows a lot of potential and continues to show that the coaches can trust him every situation that he's been given opportunities taken advantage of it, and he continued to do that today, just got hotter and hotter. Twenty two carries. I'm gonna guess that's the most that he's had in his career. I can't confirm that thing. Yeah, so there you go.
Twenty two carries, a career high for him here with the Eagles, and his second touchdown of his career, and Corey Clement too, kind of giving them a couple of those big plays. Clement had a couple of the big runs, so giving them the balance there, and you know, just Adams continuing to slowly help move the change. Yeah, and Adams I think the ability to get outside to bounce it out. I'd really he is a big play running back. Was a big play running back, and Notre Dame has
continued to be one here. And what we saw today that we hadn't really seen was the workhorse. Twenty two carries, good ball, security, late game, tough yards between the tackles, setting up Jake Elliott. Yeah for he said it was just a routine into the wind, kind of reminiscent of last year's kick, the sixty one yarder, but clearly Josh Adams delivering in the clutch, and Corey Clement, who has struggled this year to get his game going, found it
today and Amy, thank you so much. We can't wait to read the on the insight common listen to the Eels Life podcast after the game later on this evening. Thanks again, guys and Dave Brown. Was a great point there with Josh Adams that you trusted him in the clutch, you know, in those pivotal moments when you're trying to accept your field position, you're line up the kick for Jake Elliott. They trusted Adams to carry the ball and not to worry about losing it with the season on
the line. And I think the key word there is trust. It's not easy when you're looking at a guy who's undrafted and you don't know how much to give him. You want to give him enough so that you certainly are getting positive production out of him, but at the same time, in the back of every coach's mind is that he's still a rookie and you kind of you kind of are a little reluctant to feed him a
whole lot early in the season. But I think Josh Adams has earned the extra touches that Doug has given him, and the fact that you bring up the word trust, they are trusting him now to give him a little bit more and to keep the plan. Running back in this league isn't just about running the football. It's also how do you contribute in the passing game? How do you contribute in the passing protection game? Blitz pick up
things of that nature. So it's good to see that Josh Adams has been rewarded for his hard work and his positive play over the past few weeks. And I guarantee you he'll continue to get touches as long as he's continuing to be to give you positive results, they'll give him the football. Don't forget he had a fifty one yeard touchdown calling back there in the first quarter. So, Mike, what are your three big takeaways from this the Eagles
twenty five to twenty two win over the Giants. Well, I gotta start, you know, my biggest concern coming into this game was the defense and how would they perform considering what they were rialed with injuries with in the back seven of this defense, I thought, Jim Schwartz, they held down the fort in the first half, Eli and that offense, they set an NFL record. I don't have the exact number in front of me, but it was three hundred and forty some yards I believe in the
first half of total offense. That's almost unheard of. But look the team finished. The Giants offense finished with just over four hundred yards. So you look at what this defense did in the second half, only giving up three points, really clamped down on that Giants offense and kept the big playoff of them. And so you want to you want to give the defense a lot of credit for
what they were able to do. And then I look at what the offense was able to do in the second half from a running standpoint, really committed to the running game in the second half. And then Carson Wentz in the fourth quarter. So much senseless talk about whether or not he's a clutch performer, whether or not he can win big games. This guy is the franchise quarterback for this team and he will continue to be that
for well over a decade. He didn't need to prove anything to me, but I hope he answered a lot of questions that people had about him the day with that fourth quarter performance leading them down to another game
winning win with the field goal kicked by Jake Kelliot. Well, you bring up Carson Wentz in his first half numbers here he was ten of twelve in the first half, eighty three point three percent completion percentage for one hundred and twenty seven yards with a touchdown, one hundred and thirty eight point five passer rating, and he finishally see his final numbers on a day two thirty six yards over seventy one percent completion percentage. You know, it was
just very efficient in the first half. The thing was early on the defense struggled mightel Okay four drives, four scoring drives for the Giants to start off the game, the touchdown, two field goals and another touchdown. It wasn't until the fifth drive when Malcolm Jenkins got the interception where the defense was able to get off the field.
But with that being said, though, Carson Wentz he almost felt like had pressure on his shoulders to carry the offense, knowing how short handed the defense was, that the Eagles were almost got to go and score in every single possession, and after the slow start, you thought it was going to be insurmountable, But Carson Wentz just kept plugging away,
plugging away. Doug Pearson micro give him craf for making sure they stuck with the run game even though they were down at one point, by sixteen and by eight in the second half. But the big thing there is Carson Wentz a very efficient performance and helping not only get the Egels back in scoring position to have a chance to win the game, but coming through and getting
the victory. And I think the most impressive thing he did today was not press And you talked about the pressure coming into this game, and I'm sure he felt it from the outside or even from the inside when your defense is riddled with injuries the way they have been, and after giving up forty eight points to the Saints, I mean, he's probably thinking what we're all thinking, is that the offense is going to have to put some points on the board and able for them to in
order for them to win today. So as a player of his magnitude, you have to fight against that temptation to want to go out there and make a big play every time you get the football. And I thought in the first half he didn't have some things go his way, moved the ball at times, but they seen the stall on third downs time from time to time. But the key thing for me is that he didn't force any throwst he didn't have any turnovers in the game, and eventually he was able to get some things going
with his receivers in the second half. So you know, like I said, it's not easy when you're the quarterback and everyone's looking for you for all the answers and to carry the load. You almost feel pressure to go out there and score every time you get the ball. I thought he got help on the offensive side of the ball today which relieved some of that pressure, and the most of the help came from his offensive line. I thought he had pass protection back there. There were
times he held onto the ball. Maybe it's because no one was open, but it wasn't a whole lot of pressure on him, even though he was sacked late in the game a couple of times. I thought through the first few quarters he had any of time back there. And then we're watching Corey Clement here we talked about Josh Adams. That was huge for Carson today. He was able to turn around, give the ball to those running backs and let them alleviate some of their pressure that
I'm sure he felt coming into the game. It is great seeing that burst from Corey Clement and has just not been there all season. And I don't know if it was the quad injury he suffered at the beginning of the year. It just lingered too long. Clement kept saying it was one hundred percent by but by the reps he was getting on the field, you could tell
something wasn't right. And it was great with and we see Corey Clement here the second year back, and it's great that last year was a rookie Fraser running back who helped the Eagles on the way to the Super Bowl. It's Adams this year. Where you look at the numbers there from Clement there forty five rushing yards, thirty one receiving.
That's what he did so well is he helped you on third down and in the past game and without a Jhiudine, more of a sustaining back, and Josh Adams proved that he could be that guy getting twenty two carriages today. The big thing is a week ago. Look, Adams was very productive when he got his carriage. Problem is when you're down the way they were to the Saints, you and I run on the ball. At that point But to that being said, with the Eagles down this
week nineteen at three. Okay, last week, the mo against the Saints was he got past, past past again position. The Eagles just don't have the explosive playmakers to make up points in a hurry, so they have to sustain drives. They have to move the chains on an intermediate level. And I thought you saw a lot more production. Obviously, zach Ertz got his and he always plays well against the Giants, but you saw Alshon Jeffrey getting more involved
because he had been quite the last few weeks. We saw a couple of plays from Dallas Goddard today, who had only one target in the three games leading into this, and that was or one catch, I should say, but yeah, it was a touchdown against Jacksonville. Other than that, he's been targeted very minimally ever since they acquired Golden take
because they're trying to work him into the offense. I thought Micro and Doug Pearson did a better job of getting those guys and fighting touches for Golden Tate, getting those guys more involved today, because when you look at the Giants offense, obviously you're talking about say Quon and Odell Beckham, but you know, Tenant Rhet Ellison was making big but they were getting contributions from other guys. Wayne Goldman was making some key rushes for them in the
second half. For the Eagles, you need other guys outside of just zach Ertz to step up for you today, and I thought some of the other role players did in a big way. Yeah, and I know a lot of people out there want to see Golden take get the ball a lot more, but you have to realize this offense is predicated on spreading the football around. I mean that's when they're their most dangerous. You know, other than zach Ertz, the receivers aren't going to get those
type of targets. So I like seeing the fact that Golden Tate was able to get some touches. I love the fact that he's back there returning punts. And when you spread the ball around in this offense, it makes you that much more difficult to defend. And when you add the running game aspect to it as well, you
can become an efficient offense. I thought they got to that a little bit more in the first I mean in the second half as opposed to the first half, and Hopefully it's something they can build upon because next week's defense is a lot better. You know that Redskin's defense is a lot better than the Giant. So we're starting to see some positive things. Just they need to
continue to build upon it, all right. So Josh Adams a touchdown his first career touchdown last week against the Saints, gets another touchdown today and as a two point conversion for good measure. Dave Sparre caught up with him on the field after the win. Field Now with running back Josh Adams, Well, your first touchdown at Lincoln Financial Field growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, how did it? Field felt great? Man, it feels good to be home.
Definitely a blessing, a dream come true. All Right, tell me about the running attack and what changed in the second half for this offense. We just tried to stay aggressive, We tried to dictate the tempo to them, and we just trusted what we were doing. The big guys upfront to the incredible job, and we leaned on them the second half. How big was this win? Josh? It was great. It's definitely big. We're planning on using it for the weeks to come, all right, Josh Adams, Eagles rookie running
back from Council Rock South High School. I love the two on five that he flashes in the end zone after he scores. And what's interesting for young guys like Josh Adams is you come to a team that's coming off a Super Bowl win, Okay, so you kind of almost think that that aura is gonna linger and permeate throughout the locker room. But it's really the guys who are on the field now who have to continue that
culture to make sure that that standard is maintained. And that can be difficult for someone who not just coming as a rookie, but a rookie for agent who was just battling to make the team. Adams wasn't on the team at the start of the regular season. It was on the practice squad. So for now, for him to come in and contribute a big way shows his maturity and shows that Douce Daley has done a great job of cultivating another fund here Again. Last year, Corey Clement
as a rookie for agent running back. This year it's Adams. Yeah, And I think the most important thing is that the Office of Line did a great job of blocking today I mean, you know, these running backs are going to have success if the guys up front are putting the hat on the hat and moving bodies and giving them some running lanes to sort of run the ball through.
You know, I like our young running backs that we half, but I also know that there are limitations that comes along with them, and so these aren't the type of backs that can make something out of nothing, like a Sayquon Barkley when there are no holes there. You give these guys a little bit of daylight, they'll get you some positive yards. And I thought the offensive line they
got stronger as the game went on. I even saw Brandon Brooks at one point sort of motioning to the sideline to Dug saying, keep running it, keep running it. When they got the touchdown to go ahead finally twenty two to nineteen. I believe it was when they finally went ahead twenty to nineteen. So the offensive line, you could tell they were starting to pick up the energy from the running game. And when those big bodies start layding on you, man, it wears a deepense down twenty
seven rushing attempts from the running backs. It's been a long time since the Eagles have had that many rushing attempts from two backs and twenty two of them coming from Josh Shadams. I know what the Giants were thinking on that side of the football. They weren't prepared to face that type of a run game to day because the Eagles just hadn't really shown that they had the ability to run the ball the way they did today.
But I was happy to see that even when he got down nineteen to three, it wasn't like it was last week where you say we gotta play catch up football and try to score as quickly as possible. Doug show confidence that that defense could do enough to give him time to get back in the game to good point, and I think he also realized that part of the offense's job today was to help their defense out. The
defense is under Mann. You know, you got guys playing in the secondary other than Malcolm Jenkins that I really never heard of a month or so ago, So we were gonna need to start to win the time of possession. Giants kind of won that in the first half, and in the second half it was clearly came out and dominated the football. I don't know what happened to see kuon Barker in the second half, sidelined early in the third quarter. Way Gallman was the one who was hailing
the rock there in those early drives. So I saw at one point in the fourth quarter, late in the fourth quarter, he had two rushes in the second half. You don't need carrying the ball twice. You wonder if they were trying to save him for a late game push or something along those lines. But I'm sure Pat Chremer's gonna have to address that. Like, what was your turning point in this game? As the Eagles came back from a nineteen to three deficit to get this twenty
five to twenty two win. Oh man, it seems small, but it was huge. All right. Actually, we're gonna do it. We're gonna sit it back over to the lake. The victorious head coach Doug Pearson standing by. I think they called the time out there. Did you change your initial play call? What did you see? And wasn't run pect? No? We uh gosh, I mean at that point, I was just I was gonna win the game. And and uh, I had a lot of confidence in the play call,
confidence in our guys. It was a man zone. They played zone on the play and and uh, Nelly popped right over the ball. So it was well executed by us, and uh kept kept with the same call even even through the timeout on that final drive, were able to bleed off like five minutes o'clock. Set the idea when the drive started or in that situation, you just want to score and then if the drive kind of happens that way, there's in that situation we'd love to finish
with points. And you know, obviously no time on the clock. It's kind of the thought process there. I thought, Uh, you know, on the sideline, great communication, players, offensively execute, offensive line, great job today, um, and and just making making plays in that drive to get us to get us down to that kick back to that fourth down completion to Nellie looked like that the mesh play you guys have made so much success with. What do you
like about that concept in such a big spot? Then? Yeah, I mean, you know, we love it when when teams play man. Uh, I believe the Giants ran it today and hit hit it for a third down conversion. Um, it's a good play. It's a man's own play. It's something that's been in our offense for you know since I've been here, Um, and guys know exactly what to do. It's well executed and uh, great job by Carson hanging
in there in the pocket and delivering apple. Look at what do you think it's those with the team's confidence. You guys are kind of really a little bit, but I think that's a big win in the division. How does that boost it boost the Colum guys are excited. I mean they're uh, you know, it's been been a couple of weeks since we've we've felt this, this type of this type of emotion, So they're there there, Jazz.
I mean, it's uh, it's a great win against a obviously a hot, really good opponent that uh that is real dangerous on offense. And so for our defense to hang in there in the second half and do the things they did, get them off the field, and then offensively, you know, um get ourselves in a position to win a game. It's just a great boost for the entire team. Your playmakers to make plays. Malcolm Jenkins made a big play and it seemed to start something at that point.
What did you see on that play? How big a play is that for your team from that guy? And what did you see defensively going forward. Yeah, you know, Malcolm's a great leader and and uh, you know one of the things that you know, I've talked to our sort of our our leaders on the football team and and just just challenge them, you know, just you just we just got to find a way to make plays,
you know, and and in big situations. And I think you saw it from time to time today and that was one album that really sparked I think the defense going into the second half and then then obviously the offense. Um. But but you know, he made that big play. Alshan made a big play at the end of the game, you know, to extend to drive. And you know, Josh Adams, even though he's a young player, he did some nice things.
But our veteran players really stepped up today and and the d line was able to put pressure on uh you know Eli, I get some sacks there. Our offensive line, a veteran group, really did a nice job. So playmakers did a nice job today. I just think that sometimes, um, you know, you get into the game that the offensive line is really um they've been they've really they've played well. I mean really the entire season. That's been one of
the consistent bright spots on offense. And I just knew going into this game that uh that uh, you know, we were gonna have to kind of control the ball a little bit. Uh. I just wanted to help out some of those young guys on deep quite frankly, um and and our guys really rose to the occasion. They they wanted the ball in the second half, they were they were coming to me and to keep running, you know,
keep running, keep running. They wanted it, you know, on their backs and and uh so they did a really nice job. And um it was able to uh and then helps your quarterback to you know, being able to you know, throw the ball down the field when when we could on the field the field, Lane Johnson came off the field. You guys helped the moment there, like Lane said, he that's the way it was supposed to do. This kind of one of those looks and what did
you say it over them? I just told him that, you know, I was first of all, I was proud of the guys, proud of him, um for what he's kind of battled through. And and just just said, hey, how good does that feel? You know? And and uh, uh he was excited. He played played a great game today and and um, you know, I think uh the sideline was was uh was jazz, you know obviously after that kick and and uh, you know, maybe that's the
spark we need. As far as as young guys on defense you were talking about really improved in the second half after giving up a ton of yards in the first half. What do you think the difference was just that momentum ship from Mountain. I think that's part of it. I think our defensive line really rose to the occasion and the second half got pressure on the quarterback, you know, forced a couple of quick throws quicker throws U and
you know, just a lot of credit. I mean, they hung tough, they they battled, and you know, nothing's nothing's easy, nothing's pretty. Um, you just have to fight and scratch and then get the job done. And they they did that today And proud of those guys. Think gets to win. Carson gets to win after his worst outing as professional and a fourth quarter comeback. Where does what does that do for him in the big picture as far as his development, his confidence and how he stands with his team.
I mean, I think it in his you know, it doesn't change the way the guy's view to him, I mean, he's he's still one of the leaders of this football team and and uh, you know, leads the offense obviously, But I think for him to now to have have been through this to to to you know, to be down I think nineteen to we were down nineteen three, you know, and to come back the entire game and just stay patient and really allow things to to unfold for him, I think I think it's a tremendous step
forward and and proud of him and the way he handled a lot of the situations today and how he managed the run game and made some big throws for us. Um again took it, took a couple of hits, but you know, that's that's that's playing quarterback in the NFL, and and that's a that's a great step forward for him. And really proud of him and his performance and and uh, he'll just get get better and better each each time out.
It just showed a toughness that uh, you know that that they weren't gonna they were gonna fight for sixty minutes and and that was the message at halftime. You know, he had thirty minutes left to go, and um you know, just that they were just gonna hang tough. I mean, guys,
great communication in the secondary. Um, you know, the D line I think really really did a nice job with the run game in the second half and and forcing them to put the ball in the air some and and uh, it's just a great overall, great team team effort on defense. Say, couple of weeks you had you know, leaders questioning kind of accountability and effort going into this game. Did you have a sense of how the team was gonna respond or were you're kind of waiting to see
how it would play out. Um, we had a great meeting last night at the hotel. Um, guys were, guys were energized there and it really spilled over to the to the dressing room you know this morning when players got here and you could kind of feel the excitement. They were excited about playing this game and and getting out on the field and and so there was really you know, guys were saying and doing the right things and and uh, and then to come away with the
victory is just uh makes it makes it better. Last night, what message you say and in the block room today, what you're saying, That's fine, it's private. Come on, come on now, I mean, just listen. We you know, we get together and and spend about five minutes or so, you know, at the hotel after meetings, and I basically just wanted them to understand that, you know, they got to continue to trust the process, they got to continue to believe and and quite frankly, you know, you can't
wait for something to happen and then believe it. You know, you have to believe it first and then then it happens. And that's kind of the message last night. And I didn't talk about I didn't talk about you know, hey, this is a this is a must win, this is a you know, the start of our playoffs. I didn't get any of that kind of stuff. I just wanted to make sure that they understood that we just continue to trust the process, one play at a time, play together,
great communication. You know, we can get this thing, we can get this thing flipped. And they did that, just reiterated the same the same point quite frankly. Um, a lot of excited faces in there, guys, are you know just how how resilient they are, how they stuck together, proud of all three phases, because everybody, everybody had a hand in this in this win today point Golden. Obviously he made a great fifty fifty catch in the middle of the field, but he also had a drop in
that little pump returned hiccup. Do you think he's pressing a little bit at all to try to get involved? Yeah, all right, all right. There's head coach Doug Parrison addressing the media after the win, and it was very interesting as he talked about the Sunday night, Saturday night team meeting where he didn't go into the plat two. So this is a must win, that's the start of the playoff season. You know. He just wanted the team to basically show that the work that they're doing during the
week would carry over into Sunday. And that's really important, especially come off this week because it was an emotional one in the locker room as you have leaders like Malcolm Jenkins, you know, questioning the effort of the players in the locker room, and when the season starts to go south, and like you've experienced this in your career, things go one of two ways. Guys can rally and rise to the occasion and say all right, that's not
who we are. What you've seen on tape in the past is not what the Philadelphia Eagles are going to be in Tusan eighteen. That's not how we're going to be remembered. Or it could have a snowball effect and
everything could really just fall out from the bottom. And at the beginning of the game we thought that might have been the case when they were down nineteen to three, but this team fought and rally its way to get the victory and showing that there's a lot pride in that locker room and they're not going to allow whether it's injuries or defeast they've had to this point kind of put them in a tone or the wrong mindset and make them have the right attitude and approach coming
to this game on Sunday. Well, listen, we're not privy to and know what's meaning said in the locker room at halftime, but I can only imagine being around this sport ban in competition, having to go out and do with these guys did today somebody said something in that locker room at halftime. This was a completely different team on both sides of the football when they came out
in the second half. And I talked earlier about the amount of yardage the Eagles allowed the Giants to get in the first half, setting an NFL record for a half, and then the offense not being able to do a whole lot. They just looked completely different coming out of the locker room. Looked like they believed they had a chance to win this football game. I don't know if they really believed that at the beginning of the football game, and maybe something settled them down, but they came out
of the locker room a completely different team. Maybe it was the interception that Malcolm had right before the half to sort of gave the defense a spark, because I thought coming out of the locker room at the half, even though the Eagles were able to move the ball to midfield, the drive stalled and we had to punt. And then it was that series where the defense got a sack, they gotta tackle for loss and they were they were able to get the ball right back to
the Eagles offense. Is where I thought the momentum started to change a little bit for this team. So a kudos to whomever was able to rally the troops and say whatever needed to be said, because they came out in the second half looking like a different team led by that defense. You know, Malcolm talked about how well that defensive line played and led the charge. Well, we knew if this secondary particularly, we're gonna have any chance of slowing down this Giant's offense, it was gonna have
to start up front. And that's what you saw in the second half. Michael Bennett, Chris Sloan. You know, guy's flying everywhere around Eli Manning. And we've seen Eli enough throughout his career to know that you hit him a few times and he's gonna start dropping like a sack of potatoes anytime he gets the opposite color around him. And I thought that's what you saw in the second half. You saw a different Eli Manning because he had pressure on him. He started getting hit in the second half,
and it started with those guys up front. So in your mind, what was the turning point in this game? I think that the ability to stop the Giants from scoring right before the half, Malcolm Jenkins getting that interception. I thought it was huge. The Eagles had just gained a little momentum, pulled within one score's nineteen to eleven, a little bit too much time left on the clock. Giants able to get down the field relatively easy and
get in position to put points on the board. You almost assumed to give them three as opposed to giving them a touchdown there. I mean, I know, that's what I was saying at that point. And then Eli throws the ball up. Malcolm makes a great play there. I think stopping it from getting points right there gave the
Eagles defense a little bit of confidence. It certainly kept points off the board because if it's twenty two today, eleven going in at hadtime, who knows what the demeanor is in the locker room at the scoring a touchdown and then having the Giants go back down the field in less than a minute and get points on the board. It was so eerily similar to what the Cowboys did a few weeks ago on Sunday Night, where they were in They were able to score right before the half
when they should not have it. I thought the Cowboys carried all the momentum in to the locker room at halftime. Eagles get that interception. I thought that was huge. It's funny because the Giants have does such a good job of protecting Eli man from himself himself. In the last couple of weeks, the two game win streak. Eli had five touchdowns to no interceptions, and you know, the offensive line did a great job of protecting him, just they
were obviously focusing more on the run game. He saw more heavy personnel twelve personnel packages in there to kind of protect Manning there. Well, it was such an ill advised throat from a veteran. This isn't you know, a rookie or first second yar quarterback. This is you know,
Eli man who's won a couple of Super Bowls. So the force that passed in that situation when you know you're pretty much guarantee three, especially with the way ross their kicker was nail and field goals throughout the course of the day, you figured you'd be set right there. So to be a quarterbacks, let's talk about the victorious one. Let's send it back to the link where Carson Wentz is standing by. This is a loss might event now
little bits. Yeah, this is a big game for us obviously in terms of divisional standings all that fun stuff, but really mentally, you know, to show the resilience that what we did to get down early the way we did and then battle back and um just kind of builds a lot of confidence m for for really all three phases of this game, and uh, to come from behind and get it done today, UM, I think that'll speak volumes about our confidence going forward. You guys weren't
able to get done linked games earlier this year. You got to win now with less than four minutes to go. What was the difference? We just executed, you know, I think in all those other past games, M it just came down to a player two here and there, and we didn't executing. Today we got it done. You know, it didn't take anything, um, you know, extra from us. We just had to just dial it in and executing. We got it done. And also what was that play was?
I was at the scheme to go, um, it was just a progression read um, and he was the next thing the progression and they went zone coverage and it kind of just parted there in the middle and he came up with arguably the biggest catch of the days.
Step for this off bet, it's just getting that first quarter of those first few series figger to absolutely you know, I thought we came out and we actually were moving the ball okay, and then we had the penalty the first drive UM and then the second drive we had the penalty two and both those, Um, just execution. We gotta be better. You know. We kind of made made some made some mistakes early in that in that area,
and um, we knew what we were capable of. We knew we could move the ball, but yeah, we started slow. We gotta be better with that. Those last two drives that you guys were still balanced random ball really well. I think that's huge for us. I mean, we always come into every game wanting to be balanced. Um. And I think the old line plays best when we are, you know, I think it gives those guys confidence and
they are coming off the ball firing. And then in the passing game it kind of lightens the past rush a little bit too, and the line loves and we mix it up like that movement snake is all those things. Um, I thought we did a really good job of that today. What about the way John Adams random bomby at twenty two carries you got a lot of key you know, the yards for you guys, Yeah, it was big. It was big for us. I mean, Josh did a great job. He's done a great job every and everything we've asked
him to do. This year. Um, today he got little extra workload and um he did a great job and took it and ran with it. And uh, you know, at the same time, they'll line the line did a great job. We could lean on them, um, and they made some nice holes and Josh finnishon runs really well and we got it done wear down too. I don't talking about it, mesh concept in such a big spot. What do you like about that in that spot? Yeah,
it's just it's good against kind of all coverages. You know, it's a we call it an all coverage beater and just a pure progression play. And um, it's also one we've got a lot of reps at you know, we've repped it all off season and something like that. So you just kind of keep it simple in those situations and we executed it well. Other players that keeping things simple and doing the things that you do well was important this week. Was that fair to saying as that
play an example of it. Yeah, I think that's that's fair. I mean, you know, sometimes when you're in a slump um, especially offensively, you want to try and scheme up things too much and trying to be too perfect, and sometimes um, it gets guys to play slower in this and that. And I thought we did a good job this week of of just trying to keep it simple and just letting us play ball, UM and doing things that we've done really all off season. And UM, yeah, I thought
that helped us a ton to day. I was just a game help you as a quarterback when you're running the ball, that effect. I mean they always say the running running games the best friend of the quarterback, and that was one hundred percent true today. You know, we could lean on him that big drive UM to put us up late in the fourth UM the first time. I mean that that was did I haven't throw the ball? I think we just had a screen. Other than that,
it was all handoffs. And you know that was huge, UM to just lean on those guys, and they did a great job. He Ellison hadn't caught a ball since the Dallas game until that fourth down, hadn't been targeted. Uh was just say about him that, you know when his number was DUP, he was ready. Yeah, he's ready to go. He's always ready to go, you know. And Uh, we love Nelly and we love what he brings to
the table. And UM, you know I didn't even realize he hadn't specifically gotten a target till late in today and it's just the way it's been playing out. But um, there he was, and he made it. You know, Like I said, Argue the biggest player of the day. He spoke Wednesday about the kneed for urgency. What was it like this week leading up to the game, in the locker room afterwards? What was the leg? Yeah, I mean
locker room afterwards was great. You know, it felt like it had been a while since we had that feeling again. And Um, guys, like I said at the beginning of this, you know, I think that's huge our confidence. It's huge our confidence to not just win, but to win to winning the way we did. Um rallying back and you know, I thought, you know, hats off to our defense. They
settled in, you know, tremendously and played an amazing second half. Um, gave us a chance to win the way we did, and I think that just will build our confidence going forward to play the sack glow or your leg He came up wimping, Yeah, what happened? And here good, We're good. I mean the guy ran into my leg and um kind of spooked me a little bit, but uh, yeah, we're good team. Like you're down nineteen to three. Yeah, I didn't see anyone, you know, kind of pointing fingers
or questioning or anything like that. You know, I thought everyone just kind of believed. Um. And you know, offense went right back out there and put a good drive together. Um. And so I thought that was huge for us going into the second half. And you know, guys just stayed together. You know, that's the biggest thing. We always talk about family around here, and um, guys just hung together and believed in each other. We got it done. Is there
anything were satisfying? You talked about the win then then winning that a game winning drive, a fourth quarter to come back. Um, right now, I'm just thrilled. We gotta win. You know, obviously doing it from behind, you never want to be down, but um, coming back the way we did again, it's just it's huge for our confidence offensively, defensively the way they kind of you know, stiffened up at the end, and uh, yeah, it was it was
big for us. It was. Doug was taking had a good feeling about where everyone ted was at Saturday night at the meeting that that would tell what one was his message job at night befoinning g. Yeah, I mean his messages, you know, I think more than anything, was just to keep it simple, you know, keep it simple and just do what we do best and play our game. And um, you know, again we started off sluggish and
that's something we gotta fix. But you know, after that, I thought everyone and it just kept it simple, you know, dialed in on their assignments um and executed well. And that's I think what led to the victory. Were you guys the answered with a touchdown after see one Martin's fifty one. Yeah, I mean, just the way we answered in the first half offensively, I thought was big for us, um to just come in and uh um, I think
was that in the first half. Yeah, um, so just the way we answered the first half, just to to go into the locker room with a little momentum and then Malcolm had the interception which which kept them um off the off the board there. Um to just kind of use that momentum going in the second half. That was huge for us. He said, nothing change for you this week? Was it important for you though to rebound
from last week performance? And absolutely, you know, I think it's important for for everybody to just come out and rebound and just put last week behind us. And I think we did that today, Um, and that was good to see. You know, the quarterbacks a lot of times have judged wins or losses and also by late game drives. I mean it's just an important one for you personally. Yeah.
I mean, you know, anytime we can we can get a victory and they come from behind, you know fashion Uh, it speaks volumes about the team and the resiliency of the guys um on both sides of the ball. And I know, personally it was big to get it done today for me, and you know everyone feels the same. Last year as the Giants said you could Jake Elli, your paycheck could be at the field goal. Yeah. I
like that paycheck. Today it looked like Dallas kind of messed up on a blitz that led to a sack Tea on you, and then you came back and connected with them down the field and that one handed catch. How big is it that some of these rookies are kind of taking the next play and forgetting them one before that and just excelling it. Yeah, I mean that's something that we talked about all the time is making mistake, just pressed forward And first of all, the protection that
was tough. You know, that was really tough. The way they ran that game. Um and I'm not sure anyone
could could pass that off. They had the great perfect play call on UM against that, but um, just Dallas and really on defense, a lot of the guys, whether they're rookies, young guys in experience and Sky's just stepping up and and just building confidence throughout this season, throughout this game even and you know that's big for us going forward, especially with all the injury shake up and all the things that are super unfortunate that we're dealing with.
That's big for us. Did you check to a run on the Adams TV that was brought back? He thought that you did, coach coach call down? Thanks all right? Carson Wentz gets that comfort behind win in the fourth quarter, and we all know how good a quarterback Carson Wentz is. I don't think anyone was worried about whether or not Wentz.
I'm sure, yes, yes, but some people got short memories around. Certainly, you know when you're leading the team to twelve and two before getting injured last season, But nonetheless, Carson Wentz gets the big win, Eagles get to five and six, and I like when he was asked about what the message was from Doug to the team on Saturday night,
and it was keep it simple. And it makes me think of both of the wind over the Giants this season because you go back to Week six when the Eagles had their best offensive output of the season thirty four to thirteen back then, and it was come off a short turnaround. It was a short week, it was a Thursday night game. So when coaches putting the game plan for those types of performances, you have to shorten
things down low. You only have so much time. It's more mental preparation than physical because you're still trying to get your body right from the week before. So to keep it simple makes me think that you almost go back to that and say, let's do what works best for us. Okay, let's get back to the basics. And you saw a lot of that with the run game, and you saw just again a lot of the same concepts that the Eagles were successful with a year ago,
and also incorporating a number of Keki role players. Obviously, zach Ertz had another big game, but again getting al Sean and Dallas got involved in ways, you know, Golden te as well help open things up for the offense, So defensives can't just key in on eighty six or number seventeen al Sean, Yeah, I would say the key for the players is man, just trust what the coaches are coaching you to do, especially on that offensive side
of the ball. On defenses, it's a little different because you have so many players injured, you have so many new faces over there. Makes it difficult for Jim Schwartz to really put together a game plan that has any type of I guess variation to it because the guys just don't know the system well enough to go deep
into his playbook. So Jim Swartz is kind of handcuffed on the offensive side of the ball, though you pretty much have everybody there that's been there, particularly your key components, and so just get back to doing the small things that you've done that have allowed you to be successful. Don't feel the pressure, not just Carson, but the rest of these guys. Don't feel the pressure to have to
be the one that makes the play. Just understand that when your opportunity is called, just do your job and trust more importantly, trusted those other ten guys are gonna do their job. Don't worry about you having to feel or cover for someone else or make a play because you're shorthanded here. Just do what you're being coached up to do and allow the system to work for you. Because I think that's what's happened with the players, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They know the
success they had last year, and they're all pressing. It's not just a quarterback. Everyone feels the need to have to be the one to sort of get the spark or light the spark that gets the offense rolling the way it was last year. But it's gonna take time. It's gonna take time, and you can do it if you build off of it step by step. But it starts with number eleven. It starts with him. He's gonna
set the tone for everyone else. They'll follow his lead if he doesn't feel like he needs to make every play every time there's a passing play called, then the rest of the guys eventually they'll follow his lead. And I thought he played that way to day. I didn't see many force throws. I didn't see him trying to do anything that was out of the ram of his post his capability, and I thought the offense eventually started
to click. Number eleven said the offense. I thought Number twenty seven Monthol Jenkins said it on the defense side of the ball, and again from a culture standpoint, having so many young defensive backs, they're playing on the field where Suel Douglas bowing through injuries was very limited. So it's pretty much Channon Sullivan, who himself was injured in the second half, Cravon LeBlanc, and DeVante Bosby. So when those guys are coming to his sideline, you know Avante Max,
although he's a rookie, has more playing experience. Jail Mills, those guys are trying to coach up the young guys because they know the situation that those guys are under your seasons on the line and you're relying on guys who were on the practice squad and are not on the roster a couple of weeks ago, and say we're going up against Eli Mann and Odell Beckham and all the weapons at the Giants have. It's a tough test. Don't make it any tougher, but adding the pressure onto them,
try to help them out. In the process and to find out more about what the process was like to get ready for the game. Today, let's go to our one on one interview Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Quick chatting with head coach Doug Pearson shortly after his press conference a few moments ago. First of all, coach, congratulations, you know the genets were able to school in their first three possessions, and then the defense don't remind me, Yeah,
they really came alive after that. What was the difference? I think that that the big difference was our defensive line began to put a little pressure on Eli in the passing game. They were able to stop, you know, a tremendous running back and say Quan and and and Galladay and and really I think our young dbs in the back end just settled into the game and really relaxed and played played well, and um, you know, quite frankly, just just just found found the rhythm that they needed.
How much are you handicap when you have such a young, inexperienced secondary, Well, the issue comes if somebody goes down, you don't have backups anymore. You're you're you're limited there, so you're playing with young players that really don't have any backup players to go on the field, So that that's the limitation. But you know, the biggest thing is
just I think just the nerves early in football games. UM, communication, making sure they're just trust their fundamentals, trust their technique, Um, they're coaching, and uh, you know, just try to try to emanate as many distractions as possible. Carson Wentz admitted last week that he didn't have a good game. Talk about his performance today. I thought he did some really nice things today. Um, really managed our run game is
one of the things we went into this game. We had some some things in our run game that he had to handle, and he did a nice job there. Made some really really nice throws down the field. Um. You know, some some big had had a We weren't great on third down, but some of the third downs that he converted, they were they were there and um and then the fourth down, I think the fourth down at the end of the game to find Nelly over the ball, uh, is one of the biggest throws he's made.
How confident do you have to be when you make that call on fourth and one, Well, you have to be. You have to be a you know, one hundred perence sure that that's the call you want. As a play caller. Number two, you just you just trust your players. And it's a player we've wrapped a thousand times here and
they know exactly where to be. A quarterback knows exactly you know, the coverage and and and what is designed for and um, well executed Brandon Brooks the latter part of the game, when you guys are driving, he's turning. He's turning to you after the play and trying to motion for you to continue to run the ball. How much input do you take when your guys on the
field do that. Yeah, I listened to those guys. I mean they were they were rolling, and uh, it's exciting when you know it's at the two minute warning at the end of the game. They're in the fourth quarter and Brandon just nonchalantly just walks over to me and says, coach, keep keep running the football. And I said, don't worry, big fellow, We're gonna run the ball here. So it
just gives them a lot of confidence. And they played really well today and as a group, and UM, I'm excited to watch this tape and just see how well they played. It's one of those games where you ran the ball actually more than you threw the ball. It was twenty nine runs twenty eight passes. How important was that for today's win? Listen, I think, I think and
anybody would tell you that's that's probably a good formula. Um, you know, you're gonna win a lot of football game, especially if you're running it successfully, and and and and so it just takes so much pressure off your quarterback. It just allows him to play free and see the field and and you know it just and it sparks your offense too, and you know these guys are churning you know, five, six, ten, fifteen twenty yard runs. I mean, it's just it's an exciting thing for everybody on your team.
Thanks coach, enjoy the winning. Thanks Quick, We are all enjoying the win. Certainly, that's the case. Great interviewers always from Mike Quick there with head coach Doug Pearson, and he talked about the winning at the line of scrimmage with with the offensive line. He also touched a lot
on the defensive line. But I don't think we've given them enough credit for the performance today, especially a guy like Tim Journey again Okay, who hadn't played all season long and was not just active for today's game after missing the first ten games after undergoing offseason surgery. He started and was very active and it was very much
involved throughout the course of the game. Michael Bennett, also battling back from a foot injury in the first half, having a sack, he had a tackle for or helps up a tackle for Laws, helps up a Chris Long sack. In the second half, those guys up front really took the game over, making sure there was dominance on both sides of the line of scrimmage. There they really did, and that really was the difference in the football game
when you look at the second half. The run game in the second half picked up tremendously for the Eagles on the offensive side of the ball, and then when you look at what the defense was able to do, I thought that was the biggest difference in the second half.
Eli Manning wasn't comfortable only fifty six yards for this Giants offense total in the second half, and it started with those guys up front, whether it was getting at the Eli Manning in the passing game or trying to slow down that running game of say Quon Barkley or Wayne Gallum. So I thought the defensive line and the offensive line set the tone for the team in the second half. The offense certainly generated more production in the
second half with the line playing better. And I thought the defense, after giving up three hundred and forty yards of total offense in that first half, to hold the Giant Stoney fifty six total yards in the second half, that's big time. And it started up front, the offensive defense getting the team in position. And of course, Jake Elliott once again being the Giants lay. He talked with our Eels entire day Spadero after the win on the
field with place kicker Jake Elliott. For two straight seasons, Jake Elliott has beaten the Giants with a kick at the end of the game. Jake, did it run through your mind at all last year? Not a whole lot. I just realized we were going the exact same way as we were last year when we played him. So um, I was a little de javo. But other than that, you know, the offensive a heck of a job getting down there and giving me, give me a good shot.
How are the weather conditions? Tell me about the kick? Um? That was definitely the toper way to kick today. Um, you know it's tough to kick here in Philly, but you know, luckily we got the job done. Jake Elliott nerves of steel, big kick once again to beat the New York Giant kick. That's the thing where you think about it last year, you know, making his introduction to Eagles fans with a sixty one yard or the franchise record.
Then you go to the kicks in the Super Bowl, you know, the longest buy a rookie in postseason history, super Bowl history, to get the Eagles the cushing, the eight point cushion so they could go after tom break on the final drive, and here the Eagles season on the line. Elliott coming through once again. So great stuff from on the field and also in the booth, the Hall of Fame duo of Merrillies and Mike Quick at their absolute best thing. They've been waiting for a game
like this. Okay, obviously they've been waiting for a win, but just a tight ball game here, so they let it all out there. Let's re experience of the key moments from today's wind through the sounds of merrill Camp. Well, the field goal unit comes on. They need some points, you know, maybe maybe their previous plays where the outside crashed down on the dive with that, this time they were in contain in no way he was going to get to the outside. Forty two yard attempts bought a spotted.
The kick is away and the kick is good and the Eagles are on the board. Adams stays in slot to the far side of the field, Jeffrey of the nearest side, motion of the nearest side and take lets goes back. He's looking, he is firing. It is complete. Breaking a tackle, there's ERT's and he's in for the touchdown. Art's cornered at the three. Broke a tackle on one ends of the end zone. Did you say Ertz broke
a tackle. Yep, great job. And Carson Wentz strows his ball to where it's pulling ERTs into the end zone. He does break that tackle and forces his way between two defenders in for a touchdown. Wentz with Clement to his right. Here it is, Wentz takes it, pitches out the Clement. He's in a little option. I like that. So Carson takes the ball. He goes down the line of streams out down the right side, but he's got
trailing him Corey Clement. A little option play. He just flicks the toss of Corey Clement as he gets to the outside, he gets a great block on the edge by Zach Ertz and he's in for the two points. So it's a one possession game. It's a one possession game. It's a football game. Now, Manning once again on the gun. What park layer was left slot to either side, batting, calling for the football. He's back. He steps up, firing
for the end zone. Here'scepting intercepted. Jenkins intercepted. He's across the twenty. He's across the twenty five intercepted. Finally, this is a really good job defensively. They play a too deep zone this time, and Malcolm Jenkins ends up going down the hole. When he recognizes it's Odell Beckham that's going that he's trying to go to. He high tails, gets to the football and takes it back the other
way to shut down this Giant's offense. Later, as a gentleman, the Eagles have an interception at a second out and eight batting fakes. He's back, he's looking, he is heck, they've sacked them back at the tomb there it is Michael Bennett. Listen, that's the play you've been asking for. Michael Bennett back in the lineup, comes back out to second half. He's healthy to play. They break down the wall in front of Eli men and he holds onto it and they're able to get a sack on the twist.
So at his field goal attempt time from the eighteen twenty eight yard attempts, Blotto spotted. The kick is up and the kick is good. I love how Mike can't sit still throughout the course of game. He's pretty much like every fan that's in the stands. Merrill is able to do his job professionally to sit there call the action. Mike is up and down all over the place. I'm gonna rain on the parade for just a second here. Okay, we're gonna have our film breakdown. We go review in a few moments. But are you concerned? I guess the question isn't are you concerned? But the slow starts per me once again, especially with the offensive
side of the football. Okay, trailing twelve to nothing at the end of the first quarter today, Mike Quick brought up in the interview with Doug Pearson, the Giant scored on the first four possessions. The Eagles have always scored in the first quarter of two games this season, and one of them was against the New York Giants back in Week six. They had fourteen points in that first quarter. My foll prediction, which was flatly wrong before the game, was going to be that the Eagles would score in
the double ditches in the first quarter. So as we start to look ahead to the Washington matchup on primetime, money a football is that concern that once again the Eagles have are continue to dig themselves in these big holes, whereas today they were able to get out of it. It certainly is, Chris. I mean, listen, you you think coming out a game like they did last week and going up against a New York Giants defense that it's very generous when it comes to giving up points in yardage.
You thought the offense would have a good opportunity to go out there and really sort of right right themselves against this Giants defense. And like I said, the first drive they had, they got it up there like midfield, and then they couldn't convert on third down. You have something that sort of goals not in your favor and the next thing, you know, you have to punt the ball. And I thought they just couldn't really get anything going
in that first quarter. I gotta tell you, Chris, I was I was actually breathing a sigh of relief that it was only twelve nothing after the first quarter because the way the Giants went up and down the field. I mean, if they convert some of those drives in the touchdowns, you may be looking at the twenty one nothing score early in that game. They did, they went for two and couldn't get it. Unexplicably going for two early in the game. But yeah, these are things that
you're saying to yourself as you watch the game. Why why can't we seem to get this fixed early in the game. We seem to be able to go in the halftime make adjustments and then come out and get some things going. But for whatever reason, and this isn't something that just started happening, It's been happening all season long. I think the Eagles have scored the fewest amount of points. I believe it's only twenty one through eleven games. I mean that's basically that's less than two points a game.
It's a little less two points a game. So that's that's for an offense with this type of firepower, with a quarterback like Carson Wentz with some of the weapons that he has at his disposal, even with some of the injuries, you would think they should be more successful than they have been early in these games. And I can't put my finger on it. I really can't, because it isn't the same thing every week. It's something different.
So yeah, I think it is a concern. I think anybody on that offensive side of the ball, from the coaches down to the key players on that side of the football, they should because I'm sure they are. And it's not as if they aren't trying to fix it. They certainly, they certainly are trying to. But for whatever reason, man, for a team that was so good at scoring early and jumping on teams last year, we just can't do
it this year. Here the number, so it was nine nothing, by the way, at the end of the first quarter, as twelve they scored. The Giant scored a field goal early in the second quarter. They raced out to a twelve nothing leader led nineteen to three at one point. But last season, the Eagles outscored their opponents one eight to forty eight one hundred and eight to forty eight in the first quarter of games. Last season, Eagles most
points in the first quarter last year. They're being outscored fifty one, so they've already allowed more than all last season and they've only scored twenty one. So fifty one to twenty one, thirty point margin, you're pretty much, you know, looking at a couple of point deficit each and every week, so you're playing from behind. I mean, it's like playing
uphill every week. And they were fortunate to day because typically that's a recipe for a loss, getting down early against an offense that has the firepower that's the Giants half with an underman defense to try to slow him down. Man, we are very fortunate that we were able to sort of fight our way back into this game, and a lot of they had to do with the defense being able to finally stop the bleeding on that side of the ball and give the offense, you know, enough time
to sort of get back into it. Well. Living in the explosive players first four drives, seven explosive players places of twenty yards or more, we're eleven those first four drives. They were able to curtail that and able to keep the Eagles in it long enough for the offense to get on track. And eventually pull out the twenty five to twenty two win. So the first touchdown of the day came Curtsey of Zach Hurtz, who was delivered throughout
the course of this season. Four hundred career receptions for him already set the franchise record for most catches by a tight end in Eagle's history, surpassing Keith Jackson on his way to setting the new franchise single season receiving mark was held by for anyone but who's But it's not held by a receiver. It's held by Brian Westbrook ninety catches in two thousand and seven. So Urt's well on pace to surpassed that. But here we're gonna break
down his fifteen yard touchdown in the first half. We're gonna go into the RICO whiteboard for the Rico Review where Fran Duffy and NFL Film Senior producer Gret Cosell are standing by. All right, so let's take a look now at this second quarter touchdown from Carson Wentz to Kurtz.
And there's a really interesting wrinkle to this play, Greg where you always tip your cap to the giants, where they show one thing, actually give the Eagles another, and Carson Wentz has to respond, No, you're exactly right, because what happens here where do we have Golden Tate here? He's in the slot to the top. Now, now what the Eagles are going to do is this is an
indicator motion. He's going to work across the formation, and you normally do this, particularly in the red zone, where in the high red zone you do this as an indicator for man or zone. But what happens here is the corner that's over him is going to run across with him, which normally normally says man coverage. So let's see that. Now what's going to happen is you see Tate go across, you see the corner go with him.
This looks like man all the way. So now as we start the play, and that's exactly what Carson Wentz sees. So right here he thinks he has a man route. But g Norris Jenkins, what happens He was on alshon Jeffrey, he drops back, So that tells Carson Wentz right away it's not man, it's zone. So the man beater concept, which is smashed with the underneath rout and kind of the little corner rout behind it, which is meant to attack man that is now gone because it's zone. So
what does Wentz have to do? He has to come back to the other side, and what does this end up becoming cover two Tampa two with a middle hole defender. So now what he Carson works back to the other side, the zone side, and he's going to get Wentz. He's going to get Arts who's going to sit down right in a void in the zone between the outside corner and the underneath defender. Here, alec Ogletree. This is really well done and we can play it out now and
see how it goes. Yeah, they're just a great job by Carson Wentz reacting to what the defense showed pre snap. He went to his initial key, saw it was taken away and got to the other side of the field. Really well done, really well done. Right, an example of what we got to see from the Eagles offense in the red zone a year ago. Just haven't seen it consistently here in twenty eight, but a good example there of them getting on the board. They make it within
one score after this two point conversion. Thank you Frann and Greg, and you're gonna check out the complete All twenty two review tomorrow morning here on Philadelphia Eagles dot com. So another prolific outing for Earth, But was it good enough to earn Toyota Player of the Week nomination honors. Find out after this final break here on the postgame

So we were talking about number eighty six before the break, and it makes sense that we reveal that he is the first nominee and ica seems like week in a week out that he is one of the nominees for the Player of the Week. Another efficient performance eight targets, seven catches for ninety one yards and a touchdown. Zach Ertz just the I would say the most prolific tight end from a production chapel in the league this season. Now, go ahead and say, Chris, he's the best tight end
in football. He's the best tight end in football. He's well on his way to be named a first team All Pro at that position. You show me another tight end is putting up this type of production weekend week out. We know the other guys around the league, they have a lot more help around them. Zach Ertz. I think he's the guy you know you can rely on every week. There's a reason why Carson Wentz seems to find him every week because he's open and he catches everything you
throw to him. So, man, I mean, it's uh, you want to you don't want to ever take a guy like this for granted, because it's almost it's almost laughable the numbers that he puts up every week at this position. And I think we need to take time out to appreciate it, man, because you're looking at the best tight
end in football. Here's the thing. We are watching a season for the ages, yes, and it's one thing to say that after Week four, at the midway point, folks, we're getting ready for the last five games of the regular season, and he is surpassing again. We talked about it He's already put up the best numbers by a tight end in Eagles history. In terms of receptions, He's gonna be surpassing every wide receiver, any player who's ever
caught a pass in a season in Eagles history. Zach Ertz is going to find himself a top of that list. I mean, and when you think about the players the Eagles have had, and you think about some of the production that players have had over the years, that zach Ertz is gonna be at the top of the list just shows you how special of a player he is. Yeah, and I don't really know what the what the tight
end record for receptions are just yet. Off the top of my head, I think Tony Gonzalez may hold that record, way does Okay, whatever that number is, I guarantee you it would be threatened by the time this season is over with zach ERTs is having that type of year that he could set a record for the history of this league for most catch is in the season by tight end, especially with the way the position has evolved, with the guys like Gonzalez, like Gates, like Witton, like
you mentioned that Ertz woke and find himself on top of that list, so zach Ertz our first nominee. There number two. We've talked a lot about him in the show already. Safety Malcolm Jenkins, you know, had the game changing interception late in the first half. You saw when you were looking for a spark. You saw he was bringing the energy and flying to the football in that first half when you know the Eagles were starting a little bit sluggish. But he really walked the walk this week.
He talked to talk in the locker room saying that guys need to be accountball guys you know didn't like what he was seeing on the field at the end of the scenes game. Well, if you're gonna say that, if you're gonna call out your teammates in that public form, you better back it up. And he did it in a big way today, like no doubt about it. He knows when he makes those comments. He's been around this league a long time. He's not new to the leadership role.
He knows when he makes those comments. He wants to challenge his teammates, but he's also challenged and himself to continue to play the way he expects everyone else to play. Because they're watching you now. Now they're watching you to see if you're running to the ball all the time, how hard are you playing? And that's never been a question when it comes to Malcolm's effort out there on the field. But he put the bulls eye on himself,
challenged his teammates. But I, like you said, Chris, I love the fact that he went out there and led by example, and that's what you have to do when you're a leader, especially in a week like this where again he's playing with at safety, you know, Corey Graham and Tray Sullivan at cornerback. You know he's trying to
get Chandon Sullivan, DeVante Bosby and Cravon LeBlanc lined up correctly. Okay, he was adding he's already a coach on the field to an extent, but at least he had veterans like you know, Rodney McLeod who you know they were in spatico when they were playing, Jail Mills, who's been in the system for a couple of years. Now. It's all guys who are brand new to the system or a very little NFL experience, and it must win game. He's the one helping direct traffic on the field. Just again,
another another impressive mark there. For Malcolm Jenkins, and I guarantee you, Chris in that first half what contributed to the amount of yards to giants were able to get the seven explosive players you brought up in nineteen points to four consecutive scoring drives. I guarantee you with mix ups out there, I guarantee you there was communication issues that has to be when you have guys running that wide open. You got that many new players playing out there,
and not just in the secondary. Look at the young linebackers that had to play out there. Nate Gary, he had to Nate Jerry, he had to play out there today. And I saw a play where you know, Nigel Bradham is trying to tell him, like that's your guy, go cover him. So playing with inexperienced guys out there, it makes it more difficult for the veterans to really play fast because they have the added responsibility of getting these
young guys lined up. And that's impressive because sometimes that can hurt your game because you have to spend more time worried about getting those guys lined up, you can't do your job. Excellent job today by Malcolm being able to help his young teammates while leading by example, last but not least, rookie running back Josh Adams the bell cow today twenty two carries easily a career high after just getting seven a week ago against the Saints. Obviously,
circumstances much different this time around, and some ways they weren't. Though. The Eagles were getting blown out last week in New Orleans and the Eagle speaker, we got a pass. They're down nineteen to three lay in the first half. They had to maintain the ground game, knowing that was the only way to kind of chip away at it and to take pressure off the defense, and some huge runs
there by. Josh Adams scoring the touchdown late in the game, got the two point conversion on top of it to give the Eagles their first lead of the day, and then when they needed to get in position to set up Jake Elliott's game winner with twenty two seconds left.
He was a one gain in the rock down there in Giants territory, so and don't forget he had a fifty two yard touchdown run wiped out early in this contest, but also bounced back from an injury, went to the medical team for a shoulder injury, came back in the game and fought through. I just I like what we're seeing from this kid. I like the attitude and effort they brings. Uh, it's a great story. Hometown kids, Central Buck South High School, Warrington, PA. Native out here helping
the Eagles make a push for the playoffs. Yeah, can I Probalynna point out something you said there, Chris. I thought it was very critical. You talked about, you know, Josh Adams and this week been in Doug sticking with the running giving him opportunities compared to last week when the game scene they got out of whack. But you mentioned something very key there. This game was out of whack two for a quarter and a half and Doug
stuck with the running game. And I bring that up to say, you know, Doug is still in his third year as a head coach, and coaches they never stopped learning, they never stopped getting better. So I love the fact that you know, Doug and his coaching staff isn't coaching from a one track mine, meaning that it's going to be done my way and that's the only way it's
going to be done. They are learning as well at coaching on the job, and you still all last week they may have gotten away from the run game because they thought the game was getting away from them. You had a very similar scenario playout the day and it was a change of course of action, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. You should evolve as a coach and as players in this league, and there's nothing that's going to be the same week to week
or year to year. There is no one blueprint to success. You try something one week, it doesn't work. It doesn't mean you keep banging your head trying the same thing. When you're in that same situation, sometimes you have to evolve and try something different. And I love the fact that coming right after the week where you had a very similar score midway through the second quarter and it was all passed last week, this week they stuck with the running game when I know there was temptation to
do the same thing. Because when you're a coach and you're on the sideline, especially the offensive side, you're saying to yourself, the game is getting away from me. We need to score points and bunches. It takes a lot of confidence and trust your players and your coaches to really stick with what the game plan was coming in and the game plan coming in was we're gonna run
the ball a little bit more this week. We're gonna stick with it when it's even when it's not working or having success, or if the score gets out of whack a little bit, We're still gonna stick with it, at least in the first half. At least in the
first half. So this is a I think sometimes when you know this team won the Super Bowl last year, they forget Doug was in his second year as a head coach, right, and so you know, I think coming into this year, we think everything the coach calls it's supposed to work like he's never supposed to have a learning curveent did last year is so special and it's rare that that happens, and that's why they ended up his championship, and so you got different challenges this year,
and so he's still evolving as a coach, and I just wanted to make sure I pointed that out because you know, I think it's a it's a plus on his side that he didn't he didn't reverse back to doing the same thing he did last week, and so it worked out for him, and it reminds me of what he did last year after the Kansas City game where we threw the ball as much as we did. He came back and ran the ball against the Giants,
he ran the ball against the Chargers. So you know, I just sometimes the coach and the quarterback takes a lot of heat in this city when things don't turn out the way we all hope they do or expect them to. And sometimes you can you can sort of have an urge to want to cater to all the negativity out there, right, And it takes a lot from from the head coach and the quarterback to be able to have trust and the things that they put together as a game plan every week and believe in it.
And so I just wanted to give to a credit for what I thought it took a lot of gustom at least stick with what the game plan was for today against his team, and it turned out well for him in the second against thing is sticking with him. Yeah, you we can say it's easy when you're locked up in the coach's offices upstairs on the second floor here at the Overcare Complex to be like, all right, well,
in this situation, we're gonna run. Well, all of a sudden, you know, you have sixty eight sixty nine thousand fans booing you at this point because nineteen three season on the line, there's that temptation. Like you said, it's probably like we need to start passing the ball to come
back in this. It's getting a way quick. But I think it's also taking an honest assessment of your team and realizing that if you have explosive playmakers like an Odell Beckham junior, like a Saquon Barkley, maybe that's more feasible. Maybe that's more possible that you could pop off a seventy five yard touchdown like that and also be back in it with the weapons Eels have. Zach Ertz is an Eagle's top weapon, and he's a guy who's gonna win moving the chains and in the intermediate game. You're
not going to rely upon him for a fifty yard pass. Okay, Alshan Jeffrey. He can win the fifty fifty balls. He can win those tough He'll get those tough catches on the sideline. He's not gonna get you. You know, that's seventy five yard touchdown. So it's also realizing the talent that you have and saying that if we're gonna stay in this thing. We've got to utilize our strength, and
the strength is the running game. It's the offensive line and maximizing those intermediate weapons the way they should and not rely upon them to deliver chunk plays in a hurry to try to get you back in the ball game. So the Eagles winning twenty five to twenty two. Let's take a look at the NFC East schedule here and look, one game out they bunched up man, I like it. One game out Dallas the top six and five. They
beat Washington on Thanksgiving Night. Washington comes to the link next Monday prime time on December third, and the Eagles will be tied with Washington if they get the win, and of course they will surpass them with the head to head tiebreakers. So the Eagles taking on Washington twice in the final five games. Dallas comes after Washington, and again the Eagles could be tied for first place. Because remember Thursday Night football is going to be Cowboys against
the Saints. Gonna be really really tough test for Dallas to see how far they've truly come along. And we look at the stretch run here, Washington, the Cowboys, the Rams, the Texans and a rematch with Washington. So obviously, because those two out of division games are gonna be very difficult, you need to get the wins within the division, and that's where your focus is at this point. Anyway, there's no discussion about the wild card or things of that nature.
Your path to the postseason is winning the NFC East and it's a challenge because no team has repeated in the MC East since the Eagles dominated in the Andy Read day, since you were with the team, since since you left the team. Yeah, Rank Reese, let the Eagles follow the two as a four season no team as repeats NFC East champ. So it's it's it's been a while. Uh, it's due. It's time there to break that. Indeed, so Marks the Reese tomorrow two pm. Sports Radio ninety four.
W IP should be happy. Yes, yes, no excuses because the biggest thing is, and Ike and I were talking about this during a commercial break. We want to get into a situation with the Eagles where you come off the Super Bowl season and the following your last five games. We're not in December yet, and the final five games really would have no impact in terms of the Eagles getting back to the playoffs. You want the Eagles to have a chance so we can enjoy this ride together
during the holidays. But again it's it's a series of one game playoffs. The Eagles have to come back against Washington and they need to dominate the division. Okay, so they got to get back after it. They'll have some time off here and they'll be back on the practice field early on this week. So our upcoming schedule here is again plenty of content throughout the rest of the day. Will of the Eagles Life podcast on the insightcon from
Dave Spadero. Tomorrow morning, we're gonna have the full version of Meryl cam the All twenty to review, and then head coach Doug Pearson will address the media at noon. So until then, for ike reason, all of us here at the Philadelphia Eagles. I'm Chris McPherson. You've been watching the postgame show presented by Rico. Eagles beat the Giants twenty five to twenty two. By the way, Giant season they're done at this point too. There we go, everyone, have a great Eagles night. M
