That's more like it. Welcome to the postgame Show presented by Rico and the Eagles go overseas to London and knock off the Jacksonville Jaguards by a score of twenty four to eighteen to get to four and four heading into the bye week from Chris mcfierson join alongside former Eagles linebacker Ike Reas. Much different vibe than a week ago, with the Eagles getting in a similar situation, a similar predicament, getting up seventeen to six and a second half after win.

Those small ones catch it running for a touchdown, but the defense stands tall, the offense adds to their point total, and the Eagles do just enough to escape London with the victory. Yeah, nice job today. It can never be easy. We got to sweat these things out. A great job of the Eagles going over to London coming back with a much needed win. Four and four. They go into the bye week on a high note. You know you

hit the reset button. Get ready in a couple of weeks to take on a Dallas Cowboys prime time at the Link. Great way to head into the buy week. Just a hard fought, tough win from really two desperate teams you know, Jacksonville came in in this game three and five. They certainly played like a desperate team trying to hang on to some hope in their season. So they gave you a great effort today. And I thought

the Eagles, you know, great job of them. Struggled a little bit early with some turnovers, got out of the gate slow first two possessions, two turnovers from Carson Wentz able to overcome that and put points on the board, and really, I thought the defense, except for a couple of plays, I thought the defense played outstanding today. Indeed, So we're gonna hear from head coach Doug Pearson and cornerback Carson once from Wembley Stadium in a little bit.

We'll also here from Eagles entire days, Spidero and Amy Campbell as well, and we'll go inside the film room and break down the biggest players of the game with Fran Duffy and Great Cosell. But first we're gonna recap the action and what transpired on the field. Again, the Eagles dominated the game early on, okay, and basically we were able to move the ball up and down the field.

But Ike mentioned the turnovers were the biggest bugaboo early on for the offense where Carson Wentz was stripped to the ball fumbled, it was recovered by the Jaguars, and then on the next drive they drive down the field and trying to get Josh Perkins in the end zone.

Jalen Ramsey came up with the interception, very uncharacteristic. But the Eagles were able to keep moving the ball throughout the course of the game, and they finally broke through as dal Goddard got the catcher run touchdown at the end of the first half to put the Eagles ahead

and really set the tone for the game. From there after, Avante Max forced a fumble that was recovered by Malcolm Jenkins, and then in the second half the Eagles were able to finally capitalize on those possessions as they could tinue to move ball down the field. But what it was interesting from this standpoint here Ike was going into the game,

Jacksonville had a depleted secondary. There was the report or the arrest of the nightclub incident that took place where for the defensive backs, a couple who played in this game didn't pay the bar bill. They were arrested and detained for nine hours in London. Not what you want to see on a quote unquote business trip with such a big game, as you mentioned, both teams need to try to get to five hundred by the bye week. So as good as Jacksonville's past defense is, you wondered,

how would Carson Wentzon company attack him? Would Doug Pierson be aggressive? Would he still trying to focus more on the run to try to protect Carson wins? And even after both linemen up front, the both tackles got hurt up front Jason Pierson Lane Johnson, still Doug Pierson trusting in the lineman who came in, trusting in his quarterback to unlease the ball and attack the Jacksonville secondary knowing

that it was weakened. Yeah, may have been the biggest win or best win of Doug's three year coaching tenure here and considering the guys that he had out, considering your overcrowlseas planning in this game, I thought he did a great job keeping a nice balance offensively rand the ball didn't get away from it even when they weren't having a ton of success that Jackson field, the defensive front line is very difficult to move. Those bodies, big

Calais Campbell up there and Jackson. Those guys in the middle of that defense, it's hard to get running room. But credit to Doug, credit to Jeff Stoutlin's guys up front sticking with the run, and then the running backs running downhill north and south getting behind their pads. Some real tough running from these guys. And then Carson Wentz he bounced back. You know, he had really had the

one bad play, the interception that Jalen Ramsey head. You can't make that throw when you're down in scoring area trying to force it in there to Perkins. But other than that, I thought Carson Wentz made some outstanding throws. Considered he was under duress a lot today. The past

protection at time was leaky. So it kind of puts the offensive play calling in a little bit of a quandary because you know, we're we like to throw the ball down the field at times, but if you can't protect, Carson's not gonna have enough time for those plays to develop down the field. Had to make some quick throws, get the ball out of his hands, and listen, we put the ball in the ends. One great job of putting the ball in the ends on today didn't set

up a field goals. That's really what hurt Jacksonville. They had to settle for field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. Indeed, also when I love situational football, you look at the statistics from this game. The Eagles were seven to twelve on third down. Now, some of the Carson Wentz did it on his own, literally were threw the ball on the first drive, it was deflected. He caught it and

converted the first down. But nonetheless, though Jordan Matthews was some huge third down conversions time after time again, when the Eagles needed to extend drives, they were able to

do so. And late in the game they also got a little luck as Josh Adams, who had lost the ball it was originally ruled a fumble on the field, well you could call a booty call of swords as the arrests, you know, went to the replay and it showed that the cheek was down, and you know what, the Eagles kept possession and were able because I mean, right there, that could have been the ball game because the ball would have been recovered in Eagles territory, deep

in Eagles territory, just outside the red zone and Jacksonville would have been right on the doorstep there to get points. From a defensive standpoint. Ike, you mentioned how overall the defense played hard, they played fast. You know, they able to get after Blake Bortles, and you know, credit Bortles. He made some good plays with his legs, which you knew was going to be a challenge coming into this

game here. But the biggest thing for me, and this is more of a big picture thing moving forward, because late in the game, in the fourth quarter, the defense was not able to get pressure on Boardles. Okay, where they did a great job. I thought Schwartz was very aggressive.

He mixed up the Blitz package as well. Today when the fourth quarter when he was relying on that front four, because you don't have Derek Barnett, because you don't have Tim Jurne get a defensive tackle, you were taxing the guys. You're taxing Chris Long, You're taxing Michael Bennett, You're even taxing Fletcher Coxon. Hello, who's just coming back, Yeah, Brandon

Graham at that point in the game. So that's gonna be something to watch booming forward, is what can they do to get more or to help that front four because it's tough to rely on young guys like Josh Sweat and Bruce Hector and Treyvon Hester to have those guys step up for you. But overall, though, the coverage was so much better than a week ago. And the Eagles, you know, they were so disheartened, so dejective or last week, and you know, trying to say that we were not

gonna let this happen again. Well, look the situation. The opportunity presented itself one week later and they came through in a big way. Yeah. I mean, this is a good football team. There is good talent on this team. They just haven't been playing up to their potential. We know that every game has been a close game, even the losses that they've suffered. Everything has been basically a

one possession game. They've been in every football game. They just needed to get out of their own way and hopefully this is something they can build on, you know, not like the Giants game where we thought that was going to be a game build on. Yeah, to get a week off after this, get some rest, get some people back healthy. We lost Jalen Mills in this game

as well. We got to get guys back on the field, and as long as they played to their potential, they're gonna be in the being the thicket thist playoff race all the way to the end. They got a lot of divisional games still left to play. This division is here for the taking. When I look at the NFC East, I still see the Eagles as the class of this division. And once they start plan to the level that we know they're capable of, they will run away with this division.

I have no concerns about this team. This team just needs to get out of his own way, stop beating itself and believe that they are the team that that takes the field every week. That's probably the best team on the field. It's used the best team on the field, but there's a difference between having that talent on paper and carrying over to the game action. And there are some silly penalties. I remember on special teams, DJ Alexander,

you call for a palty which hurt field position. It's little things like that which can add up over the course of the game, especially when it becomes a one possession score late in the game. Where last year we were getting accustomed to the Eagles blowing out teams, Well, that's not a the norm in the NFL, and it's not gonna be the case with this team. Now. Okay,

it's a different team than twenty seventeen. You're gonna need to scratch and claw and fight through these some adversity in the fourth core of these ball games, and the Eagles were able to rise to the occasion. And it was so great to see the Egels do this on an international stage because it was the most attended game for an NFL venue at Wembley Steam or NFL matchup at Wembley Stadium since they've been doing the London series, which is great because Eagles fans took over the stadiums

as usual. You can hear, you can hear watch on TV, you can hear on the third downs, you can hear the Eagles fans chanting. Okay, even though it was technically a Jacksonville home game, and London has been a home way home from home for Jacksonville, It's basically it's been a second home because they go there each and every year.

And Jacksonville had actually want its last three contests over there and play Bortles had actually played very well overseas, so for the Eagles to bring it on this type of stage was very important because, like you said, it gets the ball rolling for the second half of the season, because in the back of their minds they know that, like you said, they're probably the best team in a division.

But you can't dig yourself such a big hole going into the second half of the year where you need everything to go right, where you have no margin for error whatsoever. Now you have five of your final eight games against division opponents. You're right there with Washington going toe to toe with them. They're playing the New York Giants today. Don't expect the Giants to come out with a win, but you never know, you never know. You know, we got the call with Josh Adams that can overturn.

Maybe we'll get another one to guard away and the Eagles will really be rolling to go into the second half of the season. But like you mentioned, they get the bye week, get some key pieces healthy, Hopefully none of the injuries from today are too serious, and they could be able to actually get this momentum going into the second half of the year, where like you said, we did think that was gonna be the case. After the Giants, they blew out the Giants, they're gonna steamroll

from there. They're finding themselves again for the second week in the row. I thought the offense was clicking throughout the game. The difference is they were able to finish and likewise on defense, when the game was in their hands, they were able to get off the field and secure

the wins. So after what happened last week, you didn't want to see the loss of Carolina beat this team twice yea, And they did a great job of rebounding, learning from that and being able to get the win today against the tough Jacksonville team, which at the beginning of the season, when this game was put on the calendar, a lot of people thought super Bowl preview. Okay, two of the final four teams, the Super Bowl champions and a team that could have should have won the AFC.

You know, but obviously it became a desperation game and the Eagles proved to be the hunger hungrier team right there. But looking at the Fox score right here, you know that Jacksonville wanted to run the ball coming into this game. Okay, they trade for Carl's hod he made his debut, but really it was Blake Bortles was the one who was doing the damage in the ground only one. Yeah, it's tough slid and running against this Eagles defense, one of the best in the league over the last couple of years.

Another great job today not letting these mediocre running backs get going. When you're planning against a guy like Blake Bortles, who's athletic, who can, who can run, at times, it's always difficult to contain him. We saw it last week with Cam Newton. He was the only guy who had success running the ball last week from that quarterback position. Blake Bortles played a half decent game today. He really did, didn't Uh, I don't think he turned the ball over? Right?

Did he turned the ball over? Non? The turnover was the fun like hell and cole Force, and then there were some drops. Yeah. I thought Blake played a good game today. Yeah, he really did. And when you get a guy that can scramble around, that's difficult on a coordinator because he can't play man to man defense. When you get a quarterback that can run, it's sort of, uh, put your your your pass rushing guys at a disadvantage because they can't just go all out and rush because

he'll take off on them. So I thought his legs really kept Jacksonville in the game. He was able to pick up some key third downs for him. But again, the defense doing a great job against the uh the the running backs, Carlos High t J Yelden, those guys didn't get anything going, didn't do a great job of covering them out of backfield. Was able to get some passes off to t j Yelden, but I thought they

had timely stops and every point. This out real quick about the offense that I was impressed with today when the Jags went for it on fourth down and the Eagles stopped them late in the game. For the Eagles offense to be able to AsSalt away that, yeah, not give it back to the Jags, that was big. We haven't seen that a whole lot this year. Picking up key first downs running the ball, great run from josh Adam and then Windale Small with a tough run to pick up that first down. Just a real nice job.

But the offense closing out the game and not putting the defense back out on the field having to come up with a defensive stole another hallmark of the team from last year. They looked at that Los Angeles Chargers game where they ran the clock from eight minutes like six seven minutes a game. You pretty much took them out of it. So you wondered, and everybody's been questioning the depth of running back. Could these guys get the job done? And you go to the run game again

for Jacksonville. Look right now, you look at Carls Hoyden TJ Yellton. They combined for eighteen rushing yards on the afternoon. The Eagles defense, one of the best run defenses in the league, up to the task once again. But like as we get into your big takeaways, we'll start with the running backs. But only good things from the Eagles perspective. Yeah, I thought the Eagles did a great job today. You look at some of the things they were able to do,

the good use of the running backs today. You know, Windale Smallwood, Corey Clement and really Josh Adams had nice days running the football and Doug stuck with it. They not only did they run the football well, catching the ball out of the backfield thirty six yard touchdown for Windale Smallwood on a play where he catches a nice little screen out there in the flats. So I thought we did a great job of using our running backs today, not in forgetting that they're a big part of this offense.

And then when you look at the adversity the offense went through, losing Lane Johnson, losing Jason Peters early in the game, having to shuffle around guys. I mean, great job from this old line that is Saxonville that they were going up against. And we gave up a few sacks today, credit to Jacksonville. But those young guys samlu Big v Hallapuli Voji Viety, great job going in the other day in a tough situation, having to fill in

for two all Pro tackles. Even though Jason Peters came back later in the game, it was still a nice job from those guys. And then went a fourth quarter. You know, I'm on the air every day or five days a week, and for some strange reason, this narrative started this week about Carson Winson, whether or not he's clutch, whether or not he's clutch or not. And I don't know where it came from, but I thought Carson today in the fourth quarter, really throughout the game was outstanding.

That touchdown to Zach Erst was what they needed, you know, to get to twenty four points to get over that twenty three point threshold. It was big, and I thought Carson was huge all day to day. Indeed, so we'll

go into these three takeaways. You talk about the run game and there's a lot of questions about do the Eagles need to make a move at the trade deadline which is coming up this Tuesday, or running back and Josh Adams, I thought, gave you a lot today because pretty much up to this point in the season he would utilize on outside runs. Okay, but we saw a lot of great cutback runs up the middle today in

between the tackles. And that's the thing is with this Jacksonville defense look outstanding in pass coverage, outstanding in terms again after the quarterback from a rush perspective, but you could run this defense in between the tackles, and even with those mismatched parts there along the offensive line, Josh Adams was able to get things going and then Wendell Smallwood screen just a perfect play call at the perfect time, caught Jacksonville way off guard and credit eighteen Shelton Gibson

for blocking Jalen Ramsey down there about the five yard line to make sure Smallwood could get in the end zone and Corey Clement mixing as well, but I definitely agree though there was nice and Josh Adams bring a

little bit of juice to this running game slack. Yeah, And like I said, you know, Doug gets a lot of to me unwarranted criticism about sticking with the run or does he run the ball enough, while I'll tell you coaches they like having successful plays and you'll stick with the run if you're having success running the football. And that's what you saw today. And it started earlier in the game where these guys you could tell they were getting behind their pads running north and south breaking.

They're not gonna make a lot of guys miss in the open field, but they are tough runners and they run behind their pads, and I like that's what they were able to do today. And then again sticking with the run, not only to run game, but even getting the ball to him out in the flats in the passing game. And you talk about the adversity, because fran and I talked about this on the Kickoff Show. He made a very valid point. When you're on the road

in unfamiliar circumstances, unfamiliar territory again. Jacksonville does this every year. This is the first international regular season game in franchise history. So the Eagles, coming off that crushing loss of Carolina, they go out across the Atlantic, they fall behind early. You don't know, you're gonna find out about what this team is truly made up. Okay, do they have the metal?

Do they have the mindset to be able to rally and come back against an equally desperate Jacksonville team, And the Eagles then all of a sudden had to bow injuries on top of that. Okay, So you lose Jason Peters, you lose Lane Johnson, You're gonna lose Jalen Mills in the second half of the ball game. But the offensive line, though, where you have to bring in Wiz to come in to play left guard, Sayamalo is going over to right tackle, Big Vas switching back and forth between left tackle a

right tackle during the game. And for Doug Pierson and Mike ro because Mike row has been getting a lot of slack in recent weeks, for Micro and Doug Pierson to come up with the enough play calls, the right play calls to get Carson Wentz on the move Okay, you know that you have a mobile quarterback. You know that he can evade some of that pressure. You know you have an offensive line that's banged up. All right, we let's move the pocket and take some of the

pressure off of them. Also, Jacksonville a fast flow defense, especially at that second level. You need to get that misdirection going. Okay, make him see one thing and do something else. So I thought the play calling was very good.

I thought the offensive line stepped up to overcome the adversity, and just overall, when the backs were against the wall, we found out a little bit about this Eagles team because again, up seventeen to six in the second half, we could have wondered, look are they gonna allow Jacksonville to come back into the game. Dedy Westbrook got the touchdown in the back of the end zone and a lot of fans were PRIs saying, oh, here we go again. Yeah, are we watch? Are we literally watching a replay of

last week's game? Okay, but the Eagles mature. That didn't happen. They over so, they overcame the trip overseas and you know the time adjustment, the what the effects adds on your body, the jetlag all that stuff. You know, overcame some adversity early on in the ball game. We're able

to finish the job. And then to your point about the narrative about Carson Wentz, Okay, you know, I know that everybody's loving Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson has been playing great of late and the New Toy anybody, but Carson Wentz is lost in the middle of it. Okay. You know he threw his first interception today since his first game back against the Colt back in week three. Okay, he rallied the team to come up with the points

in the fourth core way and heated him. May you remember that one play where he ducks from the sack attempt by Clay's Campbell and Clay's Cambell just sitting there like, what did I just watch here? He can do another but laugh. I mean, that's what we've come to expect. And then when Carson Wentz is using his feet to get first downs when there's nothing opened down the field, he's taken on defenders. Okay, all right, he's not. He's not sitting there trying to slide and come up short.

He's willing to put himself in harm's way, which, of course we're all gonna set back and say you're the franchise quarterback, you don't need to do that. But he knew he had to win this game. He was gonna point this team on his back and do what he needed to do to come away with the win. And

look at the numbers. Okay, okay, I understand. You know that Jacksonville had all the injuries in the secondary, and they're all the question marks with you know, the arrest that happened on early Saturday morning, but seventy percent completion personage, almost three hundred yards, three more touchdowns again with an offensive line that's bang up going against, like you said,

Saxonville here in this game here, so Carson Wentz. Look, he's probably not gonna get the national acclaim that he deserves because of the shiny new toys, but it was great that like a primetime game when you're playing the nine thirty am contests, everybody's watching you, okay, And look it's it's a Sunday when everybody's getting selled in getting ready to watch a day of football. They're getting up

nice and oily to watch you play. And you put on a show like that and show why you were an MVP candidate last year and why this team was a championship squad just a year ago. Man, he made a couple of unbelievable the roles today. Um, But the thing I loved about his game also was the fact that he was willing to take off when he needed to. Um. It's kind of hard to judge. Oh all right, we're gonna sit across the pond to Wembley Stadium where the

victorious head coach Doug Peers and standing by. Okay, I just think, uh, um, you know, it's communication a halftime that we had to finish the game. You know, we had to play for another another thirty minutes, a full full sixty And I think the guys really embraced that and did a nice job finishing and making plays when they had to. Um about defense did a nice job just kind of holding number three there late and then and then offense going down and being able to win

the game with a couple of runs. So just just a great way to finish. Say that again, Yeah, I don't know if it's on the line. I just think every game is every game is tough, every game is Uh, you know, Um, a great opportunity to you know, take a step forward. Um, you know, things haven't really gone our way the first half of this season. But it's great to get this victory today and and uh go into the break with with positive thoughts obviously, and um

get ready for the next one. But I didn't think it was necessarily a must win, you know, a situation. I haven't met with the medical team yet, so I can't I can't speculate on that until I do probably know something probably tomorrow. Great play on the ball, um, it's what we talk about during the week. We need we need defensive turnovers and and uh they were able

to do that one. Then obviously the fourth down late in the game, but a great job coming up rallying, you know, putting his putting his hat on the ball, ball comes out, Malcolm picks it up and then offense can can capitalize on that. And that's one of the things I think that's kind of been missing the first first half of the season is just quite frankly, uh, you know, turnovers and then short fields for the offense.

And uh, um I told the team, you know, even after the game, you know, that's that's a positive that's what you know, we can do that, and we need we need more of that, you know. Second half. Um, yeah, we just felt comfortable with Josh. I mean he the other two guys play a lot of special teams and just keeping everybody fresh and rotated. I thought Wendell did a nice job as well. Corey came in there and

and uh, and he runs extremely hard. But but you know, Josh had the hot hand today and just kind of kept him going. Got another one, keep going. No, it's just kind of where the ball went. Jordan made some great plays on the ball, some third down to catches. Um. You know, he's really strong to the football right now, he's been able to elevate and and uh he's he's really kind of fitting in, you know to what we're what we're asking him to do. And uh, he had

a really good game today. Yeah you eliminate those two turnovers. Thought he played extremely well, you know, led the team played, Uh, played well, played tough, made some tough scrambles for some first downs, I mean, being hung in there, you know, and and um just made a couple of great throws on those touchdowns to the tight ends. And then and obviously the screen passed the window. But yeah, I thought he played played played aggressive, he played hard, played tough

and and really really kept us in the game. He's really he's really settled in to that role. Um. It seems like he's just gotten gotten better each week. Um, you know, even having like Malcolm and Corey Graham and even Rodney you know McLeod out there helping him, you know, during the week and talking to him and of course you know coach on Lynn and Tim and those guys preparing him. He's done done a nice job. He's really, um kind of understood his role, understands his role, I guess,

and and just uh fits within the system. And it's been been improving every week. Just told him, you know, uh, congratulations you know on on a on a hard fought win. Nothing's ever nothing's ever given to you. You know, you have to go earn everything you take. You got to take games. I mean, it's just against a great opponent.

And so I just my hat was off to our players and coaches for you know, being able to come over here and and and um, you know with the travel and being able to handle that and be disciplined with that. And h was really really a positive for the team and and just sort of embraced the moment being around the guys, and so I just told him it was just a great, great experience overall and and a great way to uh to finish the first half of the season. It was a great crowd, great crowd,

eighty five plus. I think it was um a lot of Eagles fans and and uh, you know we we uh we expect that each week, quite honestly, and uh, you know, our our fans travel well. The the UK fans were in full force, and it was felt like a home game force. Yeah. One more, well, you saw what happened right away. They took a shot, you know, and went after him and he's so he's so long at great speed, and I thought he thought he played well. You know, we'll evaluate the film on the plane went

home and get a chance to watch it. But I thought, uh, you know, I thought Razil really stepped in and and we'll see you know, Jalen's injury down down the next couple of days. But um filled it nicely. Okay, thanks, all right, there's head coach Doug Pearson and you know, going back to last year, Eagles fans taken over on the road another home game. Okay again, maybe it's one of those situations where look London seeing Jacksonville a bunch of times, this is new for the Eagles and Eagles fans,

and let's take advance. Let's make a trip across the pond. Why not. And let's face it, they are the defending Super Bowl champ so you're gonna get and it's the first time a defending Super Bowl champ has played over in London, so you knew that there was gonna be an exciting crowd to see these guys out there today. And let's face it, these Eagles fans, they take pride and and and being able to go on the road

and being heard, uh taking over other team stadiums. So you know, even though that was a sort of a neutral site and it was way over in London when this game was announced that it was gonna happen last year, these Eagles fans they couldn't wait to book these flights to head over because they wanted to be a part of what essentially it's history. It's the regular season game the Eagles have played over there, and it's the first time a defending champion has played over there in the

following years. So you know, I'm not surprised. Our fans are the best in the world. They show up everywhere, and you're gonna hear them. They don't show up and be quiet. They up, you know, sell and nicely. No, we're gonna make ourselves loud and proud. And it's Eagles everywhere. Okay,

the Eagles are everywhere taken over. So again, here's one thing, you know, looking back at, you know, from the Eagles and what they've endured so far here in twenty eight teams, you wonder if being go through these balld tested type games and being almost playoff ready in the middle of

the season is going to help the team. Because Doug Pierce has talked about, you know, Rasul Douglass and I get touched on the adversity that this team overcame today and you're getting these young guys ready, Okay, Avanti Max having a great game, Dallas Goddard having to go ahead touchdown here today, Josh am stopping in a big way, you know, Josh Sweat getting valuable reps now at defensive end.

It's not situations that in training camp in preseason you draw up and say, hey, you know we're gonna rely on these guys. It becomes a situation where it's do or die and you need players to step up. It's that next man up mentality, and guys need to step up and show why the Eagles had faith in them in the first place. So you wonder as they get ready for the second half of the season, and they're gonna some of these guys back and healthy, and some guys who were bumped and Bruis will have some more

time to rest. All of a sudden, you'll have a healthy team again. You get the meat of your NFC East Lake coming up here where you have five of your last eight games or against division opponents. Okay, you've got some tough non division games. Okay, you got to go to New Orleans, you go to LA to face the Rams. You got Houston coming to the Lake. In Houston's highs can be his won five straight games and Houston is certainly thanking Philadelphia for taking care of the

Jaguars today. So the second half of the season is not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination. But unlike last season where this is where they were winning nine straight and blowing teams out of the water and games weren't decided by halftime when we were all partying. This is a situation now where the Eagles have to learn to win close games and that is going to help them moving forward. So that's gonna be the biggest thing for this Eagles team is you know, they're being

balld tested. Now they're gonna be playoff Freddie for the second half of the year, when typically your best teams start to rise to the occasion. Okay, come off the Super Bowl year. You knew it was going to be kind of an extended preseason. You were getting cars Beck, You're getting Alice on, Jeffrey back. You know, some guys like Jordan Hicks were working their way back from season ending injuries. Now this is the team you're rolling with.

This is your squad. Okay, Hawary Roseman. Maybe he makes a move at the trade deadline, we'll wait and see on that, but by large, this is gonna be the team that you're gonna be rolling with in the second

half of the season. So you get a big win on the road today against Jacksonville, and again I understand Jacksonville's lost four straight games, but still this was a team that should have won the AFC a year ago, and they blew out the Patriots earlier this season, and that was supposed to be their coming of age game, that they showed that they could overcome their miscuse from a year ago. But they've just not been able to

get the ground game going again. Only seventy yards today, all right, So Blake Burrows had to do it with his arm, with his legs, and you know what, he was actually kind of undone by his past catchers five drops, I think on the day today. You know, Djhark had the one touchdowns should have been a touchdown. That should have been a touchdown. You know, Malcolm Jenkins did a great job breaking up the past to Dd Westbrook that could have been a touchdown, forcing them to self for three.

Those little things add up and it's only gonna be a play play here or there. Okay, Jaguars fans are gonna watch this gatement saying if we had done this or we had done that, we would have gotten the win. Okay. That's what the Eagle season has been. It's come down to one or two plays every week, you know, outside outside of a couple of games. But we got all special Tree here. We're setting it back to when we

see him zach Ertz is standing by Yeah. I mean we ran kind of a similar player early in the game when I broke to the post. Unfortunately, um, I kind of lost my footing on the play. Um. So the presentation is pretty much the same presentation. You know, you widen your release and then you kind of give a heavy nod to the post and then run a corner. And it was It was a play that we've had for a long time, and it was really the first

time we've called it. Um So it was a really good play design and I thought, um, it was a really good throw and I just try to go up and make a play. Yeah, I mean it was huge. I mean we had all the reasons and to make excuses for this week, a lot of adversity, not getting a lot of sleep Thursday night, flying seven hours, going right to meetings. But the thing about this locker room is that it's a full of guys that really love

the game of football. Everyone really loves to compete and play for the person next to them, and so we just wanted to go out there and play full sixty minutes. That was a message this entire week, you know, We've put games, we've put drives, we put quarters together, but we really haven't put a sixty minute game together. And so I was proud of the way we battled today for full sixty minutes against a really good defense. From an offensive standpoint, yeah, I mean, I thought, I mean,

the guy is as mentally strong as they come. He's never gonna show that he's down. He's always looking forward to the next play. And I think that really resonates with a lot of guys in this locker room because we understand that we have so much talent on offense. Obviously, we face a lot of adversity today too. On the offense side of the ball. We lost the best right tack in the league. JP was out for a little bit,

and we were still able to move the ball. Obviously early in the game game if we finished touchdowns, the game is really a different game. UM. So the red zone we gotta be better in UM, but I thought that improved as we continue. We kind of got a feeling for how they were playing us UM and Carson's a stud. I mean, he's one of the best players in the league, and that his play kind of speaks

for himself. Yes, huge I mean, we got a lot of good playmakers on this offense, but um, the game plan is going to be dictated, and who gets the ball is gonna be dictated by what the defense is giving up. Um, We're not going into a game saying the eighty six has to have this many targets. Seven teams gotta have that many targets. Um, we're gonna Carson's the type of quarterback. He's not gonna lock into a guy. He's gonna go to the guy who who the scheme

is getting open, who who who? They're kind of dictating who should get the ball. Um, and a game like today was it was. It was really good to see Nelson Jay Matt have some big plays. It really opened up the offense. Really happy for Dallas having that long touchdown showing some emotion finally. Um, so I mean it was that's the type of football that we want to play. Yeah, I mean it was a little slick, obviously, a little wet, um, a little muddy, but overall I thought it held up

pretty well. Um, I think I slipped one time. Obviously, key moment in the game. Never want to happen. But we spoke about it last night that we weren't going to let that be an excuse for us. M guy slipped, that's part of the game, But that wasn't gonna be an excuse no matter how the game went. Yeah, I loved it. I mean, this game was honestly a lot of fun. It was kind of a Super Bowl experience in the sense that there's a lot more going on than just a football game. It was a lot of fun.

I loved hearing the other national anthem and during warm ups, I thought it was really cool. I loved how everyone was singing it as a collective group, UM, and knowing kind of the history of the soccer and how passionate soccer fans are football to you guys, Um, it was a really cool environment. Obviously it is kind of a spectacle, UM. And I did like playing here a lot, honestly. Yeah. I mean, obviously those two games didn't didn't end the

way we wanted them too. UM. But we continue to preach sixty minutes this week, and that was that was the message that stuck with us, that no matter what was going on in the game, that we were gonna play a full sixty minutes and we were gonna execute UM. And we wanted to finish the game with the ball in our hands. As an offense, we didn't want to give the Jaguars a chance to go down there and make some plays. Um. We've put a lot of pride in executing as an offense, especially late in the game

when teams know what we're gonna do. Um, and still having the execution ability to go there and make plays and finish with the football. UM. So I think that was a big stepping stone for our offense. Well, if he freaking got the ball to me, it wouldn't have been needed it. But I mean the guy, I mean, nothing surprised me with that guy. Everyone always says, where

he surprised he does? This? Was he surprised he does that he knew exactly what happened the moment he threw the ball, and to have the knowledge and the wherewithal to catch the ball and know exactly where the first down marker was just speaks to how competitive he speaks to his football IQ and he makes our job very easy as as receivers as skill position players. Cool all right, tight end zach Ertz meeting with the media at Wembley

Stadium in London. The numbers for the year just mind blowing. Okay, halfway through sixty one catches six hundred and forty four yards and three touchdowns. Arguably, I mean, we already said he's in a conversation for best tight end in the game, but arguably he's had the most dominant first half of

the season of any tight end in the league. And I love the way he went out and got that touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, going against a rookie freezing corner and Trey Herndon again Jaguars secondary limited by injury. There was also all the stuff that happened with the nightclub early Saturday morning, but he went out one on one and look, Hernon had pretty good coverage on the

play first just took it away from him. Yeah, I mean, Zach came into this game second in the league to Adam Feeling and catches receptions on the year, so we know that he's a great target and it'll it'll be one of these debates for years until I guess Gronk retires or what have you. But no shame for Zach Ertz. He is certainly if it's not Gronk, if it's not Travis Kelsey, is Zach Ertz, so he's one of the

best tight ends in football. I'm taken to claim that he's the best what I'm trying to do right now, and you can and you can. I think that's a fair argument, except especially this year. He's certainly owned his way to another Pro Bowl, so we know heats that going for him. And in the red zone, he's starting to get back to being that security blanket for Carson as he was last year when he had a career

high eight touchdowns. Has three now and that's really the only thing really missing from his game is the amount of touchdowns. And when you get down in the red zone, he is a legitimate threat down there where you're starting to see some teams double team Zach Ertz down in the red zone, so he's able to get single coverage and if it's on a dB, Carson's gonna put it up there to him because he's just too big, too good, soft hands, and Carson knows if he puts it in

that catch radius area for Zach, Zach's gonna bring it in. Well. Ert only has three touchdowns because dal Scoddard has been a Scots getting his this year, so that's a nice touchdown he had that wasn't beautiful touch. We get to see highlights of that little bit later on in the show. But right now, okay, first international regular season game and win in franchise history. So who better than to deliver it than the voices of the Eagles Mellor Reis and

its Hall of Fame partner Mike Quick. Let's check out the best plays from today's game victory in Marrow camp and get it from their perspectives. It is third and eight for Jacksonville ball at their own twenty two portals in the gun. He steps up, he is head and he has sacked back at the ten yard one by Chris Long, and that will do it for the first quarter. Really nice job by jam Schwartz confusing that offensive line.

He lines up a lot of guys at the line of scrimmage and if he's gonna all out blitz on the snap, the back off and only four come, but they get him to the ground. This will be a thirty one yarder shorter than an extra point. Ball is spotted, the kick is up, and the kick is gonna retide at three. Let me second down and nine for the Jaguars. Hide the sat back motions of the near side. Portles fakes to hide. Portals is head. Portals has dropped another

stack back near midfield. They got the Bordles and it was Jordan Hicks. Malcolm Jenkins in there too. Portals takes the snap again. Here comes the rush. He lets it go over the middle wide open receiver and the football comes flows from Coal. It's picked up by the Eagles. Eagles haven't Cole made the catch. The hip was made by Maddox and they pick up the football and it looks like Malcolm Jenkins hasn't. The Eagles and back in

business that they finally get a turnover. It's been a while fall At the thirty three play, action Wentz running, He's looking, he is firing and is complete Dalla the five breaking a tackle and full of touchdown. It has Connard Dallas Connard creaking a tackle of the five of the Eagles and finally scored a touchdown and taking the leader. I love the design of this play. Carson Wentz on

a little roll out. He didn't have anything in the flat, but he really wants that throwback pass to Dallas guarded his rookie tight end. South Dakota State got it, catches the football and then he gets an assist on his way into the end zone. Second down in the yard He's got Carlos hide to his right, three savers left the tight end grivage to the rights. Black, he goes Bordals, it's hit. They've gone him. They've got him Black at the fifty yard line and give that one to Jordan

the Hicks. Thank you so much The Sports Radio ninety four w IP for providing us with Merrill camp. Was that one of those videos where you gotta like tell what happened in the middle, like the costume change that happened midway through with with Mike Quick throwing the hat on there. You know, Chie, did he get a lottle cold?

I guess, I guess. It's also interesting seeing the work of Joe McPeak, the producer for the broadcast, as well as Anthony Vonnagura, who's from the Eagles Media RELATIONSHI department. He works at the spot or during the game, so he's telling Meryl what happens on the field, you know, pointing to the key players, key players, what the call is.

He's really helping relay that information to Meryl. So he's kind of like the eyes a second, Steve Eyes for Meryl up there, so important, job too huge, that's pressure. Can you talk about pressure? You're gonna be doing that for for the goat the voice of the Eagles, been doing it for forty two years. You can't you can't screw up. You can't mess up on that one. There.

So we're waiting to hear from quarterback Carson Wentz and just a little bit a little later, odd we'll get into our unsung heroes of the game as well as what we thought the turning points were, and we'll also have the Toyota Player of the Week nominees. But you know, as we prepare for Carson Wentz, you know, it was interesting, as you mentioned at the top of the show about how the narrative became he can't do this or that in the in the fourth quarter of games. Well, for me,

it's like he's still so young in his career. He hasn't really had the opportunity to do it. Okay, he's only had a handful of chances, and we kind of remember going through those last week on the show. The Baltimore game as a rookie came to mind, but really didn't have it last year and again, this goes back

to being battle tested. This is one area where you want to see Carson Wentz have the highs and the lows to get the experience good and bad, so that when you get into December, when you get into those pivot and it's the East Games or you know, if it's a Houston game, which could help determine a playoff spot at the end of the year, that he'll have been through the fire before and you're not wondering, You're not sitting there wondering what is Carson going to do

in that type of situation. So it was great to see him bounce back from last week. Okay, where look, they moved the ball down the field. Alston Jeffrey you know, drew the pass interference call, and then the questionable one was when he forced the ball into the end zone versus taken you know, the safe route with Wendell Smallwood. Okay, and you can argue today look on early in the game when he threw the interception that was intended for Josh Perkins, when all Smallwood was open on that play

as well. The only thing was I like to throw because Perkins was open. There was a win there. The problem was the pass rush got to Wentz forced him to hesitate, step up in the pocket and that little bit of time and I think at that point Wentz pretty much said I'm going to Perkins. Ramsey had enough time with that hesitation to cover the field and it was tremendous because he came out of nowhere. You watched he came off for aushot. It wasn't even his man and it was just a great play by a great

player from Jalen Ramsey's point, But Carson knows there. You either got to pull that ball down and just take off and get what you can. But like I said, you gotta to me, you just gotta accept the good with the bad when it comes to Carson, because the good is gonna far outweigh any negative place that he has. He's able to bounce back from that, uh that that interception and still throw three touchdowns today. So um, let's hear from Carson himself as we were sitting across the

pond once again to Wembley Stadium. Yeah, I mean we we moved the ball. Well, you know that's the thing that was the positive sign obviously post drive into the turnovers on my part, things we got to clean up. Um. The interception, I mean, Ramsey made a heck of a play, kind of came out of nowhere on us. That's that's a good player making a play. I gotta make a better read. UM. And then the fumbles unfortunate. UM. But again, the positive sign was that we knew we were moving

the ball. We knew we were capable capable of it right away, UM, and so we just built off that. That was great. I mean, the line got got on front and uh, Smallwood took care of the rest. I mean, everyone did their job. And you gotta love those those screen passes that go big like that. Yeah, yeah, they did, yep, Yeah. I mean third down is huge, I mean anytime, and we always talk about situational football being third down and red zone football. UM. And today, UM, obviously third down

was big. UM. Staying on the field, that's you know, something we pride ourselves on. We were great at it last year. UM, so it's big for us to down the field when we did today. Yeah, that's what that's what we like around here. You know, we're pretty confident in the guys we have, whoever it is, catching the football out of the backfield, the running backs tight ends you know everybody, Um, and it's usually a good thing

when we get lots of guys involved. Shoot, even I had a catch today, so we were spreading the ball out. A great play call, you know, a huge play call in that situation by coach. Um had time to set up and let it rip and he made a great play after the catch, you know. So that was just gotta give a lot of credit to the play call. Yep. Yeah, I mean that's just what you're taught on screens. Honestly,

I wouldn't overanalyze it, overthink it. I mean it really was though line taking care of it and small would doing the rest. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I'm always unhappy, you know, I'm ticked off. I get frustrated, But um, it's just the mentality that you've developed from this game. I'm playing it so long, you know, that's just Adversity's gonna strike h in a season at Verse. He's gonna strike in within a game, and um, sometimes you just make bad plays and you gotta bounce back from in.

That really shows the type of player and the type of character that you have. Yeah, I mean the nice thing for me is it's pretty easy. You know, because those guys come in ready to go. You know, guys have to show full around, move around, and we're asking a lot for them running backs, you know, we're asking a lot of them out of the backfield, running the

ball and a little bit of everything. So, um, you might think it's it's a big deal, but I gotta give credit to the line and those guys just just coming in being ready to go, and it just shows that we have good depth there. I mean, we finally we finished. You know, at the end of the day,

we finished. We still finishedly. We wanted offensively. You know, we had that chance to kind of seal the deal and went three and out, which was unfortunate, but but defense stepped up, you know, and so I think we just at the end of the day, we finished well this week, and we obviously didn't last week. Yeah, I feel extremely confident the guys that we have. You know, it's m like you said, it's been kind of up and down for us offensively. Um, some weeks we start

fast and slow or vice versa. And you know, it's just good for us to kind of go into this bye week with a little momentum against a really good defense, you know, really good overall team, really good defense in the Jags, and to put a good performance like that was was big for us. I mean, I wouldn't say it more myself, but um, that's when instincts take over, you know, at the end of the day. Um, like you said, when I scramble, I want to throw first.

But Um, the way they were covering everything, playing a lot of soft coverage, playing deep, um, and the and the plays that we had on I was able to try and extend some and and pick up the first down a couple of times. Yeah. I mean again, hats off to coach calling, calling some really well designed plays. You know, I think we had a couple more that we just missed. Um. And uh, you know, he called him, called him at the right time. And Guy's making plays.

And at the end of the day, anytime you got a play down the field, the old lines got to protect, you know, they got to pick it up. And they did a great job giving me time to make those plays. Yeah, it's a huge, huge difference. Um. You know, being five hundred again, still not where he wanted to be or where we had hoped to be. But Um, going into the bye we knowing that the real meat of our scheduled NFC East is ahead of us when we come back from this by huge momentum and a huge win

for us heading into this. Yeah. The thing I love about jam Ads you can put him at Z and can put it on at X. You can put him at FUM and he's gonna get the job done, you know, both blocking and all the stuff we asked our receivers to do blocking wise, but he can make place. You know, he can beat man coverage. He can. I mean we saw him do it a couple of years ago here, you know, for a while, and um, it was big for him to step up the way he did today. And I was cool to have him, you know, be

the leading receiver again. It's been a while, Yeah, I think you know, we go we go in every week with a handful of movements and ways to move the pocket. Um, and you know, we had a lot of respect for this front, you know, and and and this this secondary as well. So we knew if we could just move the pocket a little bit, do some things like that, get me on the perimeter you know where I feel really comfortable and guys really react well, Um, when things

break down, you know that was big, big for us today. Yeah, I mean it's a huge win. You know, it's a huge win. You know, everyone's obviously excited heading into the bye week, you know, to get a week off, get our minds, to get our bodies right. That's huge. And you know, we got a long flight ahead of us, that we're in London. There's a lot of things going on, so I thinks everyone's pretty excited that we're going back

with winning out of lass. Okay, I mean I think everyone needs a week off, you know, I think, um, this is the National Football League are getting guys are getting hit and beaten up all year long, and um, fortunately are just really falls right in the middle of

our season, which is nice. Um, but but that week off is huge both for people's minds and their bodies to just really heal up, get away from the game for just a couple of days and everything and get your mind right so that we can come back and make this run. It was really cool, you know, it was really cool. Um. Coming in obviously, I'd really no idea what to expect or or when everyone was going to be cheering or who you know, what the fans

were going to be cheering for. And everything. Um, but it was an awesome experience, awesome environment, um and you know, it was definitely a fun one over here. What's that? Yeah, I mean it sucks, you know, something I gotta clean up. It's something we gotta I gotta look look in the mirror and say, how can I protect them all a little bit better? And sometimes it's just getting the ball out earlier, you know, and finding my guys faster. And

he had something I'm definitely looking at. Thanks guys. Quarterback Carson Wentz meeting the media in London, and my biggest takeaway for Carson is I'm happy they want today because after what Carson went through last season ike where he had the MVP type season, got the Eagles on the precipice of winning the division and getting home field advanced for the playoffs, and knowing full well that should have been him out there on the field at US Bank

Stadium in Minneapolis back in February helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl. And certainly he was helping from the sidelines as a coach, but he should have been playing in that game. Okay, that was his moment. That's what he was drafted to do, was to bring the Eagles the Super Bowl championship and hopefully championships down the line.

I would have been crushed for him to work as hard as he did in the off season, to get back on the field in the third week of the two eighteen campaign, and for the team to be all but out of it at the midway point of the season, go into the bye week, and yes, they could have been three and five, and you could have said that they have the division games and you know things could break right and no one's running away with the MBC East.

But you basically have no margin for error whatsoever. And as I said earlier, those non division games are not easy at all. No game is easy. But you're playing three of the hottest teams in the league in the Saints, the Rams, and of course the Houston Texans. And yes, maybe the matchup is different because you could have said the end of last season, you would have thought that Carson Wentz was gonna play in certain games and he

wasn't there. Yes, that could be the case, but I would have been crushed to seek what Carson has gone through, what he's done in his rehab. No one with this team, with this game means to him to have a second half of the season that just wouldn't, for all intensive purposes, be meaningful. Okay, we all want meaningful football into November and December, but I would have been devastated for Carson Wentz come off last year not to be able to

experience that. Yeah, and he listened, he's not ready for his season to be over with And so you saw the way that he played out there today making things happen, not just with his arm, but I love the fact that when he had opportunities to take off, he was

able to use his legs as well. So you know, as long as you have Carson Wentz leading this team, we're gonna be Okay, we're gonna be in every game, may not win every game, but you don't have to worry about that guy and whether or not he's gonna give you a full day, a full day of work when he shows up. Like you talked about the rehabbing process, everything he went through to try to get back as soon as possible. We know what this season means to him, how he fought to get back coming back from that

reconstructive knee surgery. And he's playing that way. He's playing as if this season means everything to him, and now he's gonna have to balance out trying to do too much and then doing enough to get you w's. But he's one guy on this team. I don't worry about when that ball is kicked off because I know you're gonna get the best of Carson Wentz every week. Indeed,

So let's get into our unsung heroes from today. I'll start with running back when Dell Smallwood okay, because going into this game, look, you knew the run game had to step up in some way, shape or form, because last week they were not able to assault away the game when they had the seventeen nothing lead over Carolina. And you know that Darren Sproles is out, you know that j GI has done for the year, So you're

gonna have to go with a rotation of facts. And when Delle Smallwood okay, he was on the roster bubble coming into this season, and the big knocked on him had been could he stay healthy? Well, he has been the one guy you could rely upon to be on the field weekend and week out. And look, he didn't just deliver in the run game, hit twenty four rushing yards.

He wasn't the leading rusher Josh Adams was, but he had the big touchdown in the third quarter which really helped break the game open for the Eagles on a screen pass. So for me, you know, you're not gonna probably talk about small One. It is one of the players of the game. He's not one of our Player

of the Week nominees. But you know, for someone who is in the role that he's in where he's rotating in, he's sharing time with Clement and Ams for him to come through and to deliver a big play to help move the chains in the run game, you know, my hats are small One and what he's been able to do with the opportunities presented here in twenty eighteen, once again, the Eagles need a chance or have a chance to assault away the game in the fourth quarter and he's

able to help get that done. So that Carolina, you know, the lawsuits to Carolina doesn't impact this week's game against Jacksonville and we have a repeat episode of what is transpired. Yeah, huge tough yards for Windale Smallwood late in the game picking up a big first down. So kudos to him of being your ensong hero. And I'll go to the guys who blocked for Windale Smallwood today. That offensive line, primarily Hallapoulivati Viti and Isaac salm Model. Those guys moved around.

They are the swing offensive line and Manna play guard or tackle left or right, and they were both needed today as the Eagles lost Lane Johnson on that Carson Wentz sack fumble. When Carson fell on the back of his legs, Lane was lost for the rest of the rest of the game. Jason Peters went down with a head injury for a while, so Isaac Salamal who had to move out there to left tackles. It was it was a it was a It was a valiant effort.

I thought from the offensive line to day, primarily those two young guys being forced into action, uh in the drop of a hat to go out there and had to play and listen, they gave up some sacks. Jacksonville did a great job overloading the rushes to him. But I thought all in all, they held their own in there. Carson was able to do a good job throwing the bar and then we just mentioned the running game that was effective and that that that has to be credited

to those guys up front as well. It's interesting because go into the game, Siamles preparing to be left guard, YETI preparing for both tackle spots. It's one thing when last year, because you talk about these being young guy obviously settled in as a starter last season, because you know, once Peters was out, he knew he was the guy

left tackle. He could focus on that weekend and week out. Well, third, the course of a game, in the week of preparation, you're preparing to play on both sides, which is very difficult. I think it was Michael Bennett who said a few weeks ago it's like, you know, try spending your whole life writing with your right hand and then try to

do it with your left hand. Okay, And then in the middle of the game in Sam Miles case, where he's focused on starting at one spot, that you're playing on the outside, you're playing on the edge and facing different players. So that scouting report that you might have had on you know, the interior alignment of Leek Jackson, all of a sudden, now it's like, okay, you might have you know, Dante Fowler and Clay's Campbell to add to the mix there as well. Just make it that

much more challenging. So I certainly agree with you on that standpoint or the offensive line of the job that they did for the turning point in the game. For me, it came late in the first half, and I'm gonna go with the rookie. We talk about baptism under five and a player who was battling for the nickel cornerback position in training camp along with Sidney Jones. Well, you know, Vonta Max was making his hey on special teams early

this season. Ronnie McCleod gets injured and they say, who's a guy who has similar body type, skill set, could provide the same kind of range and playmaking ability to go with a Vonta Max. He didn't play safety at pitt but he's gone in. He's taking the job head on. He has flourished back there and he delivered a blow to Keelan Cole to force the ball out on a nice crossing route in the end of the first half.

Malcolm Jakin scooped it up. The Eagles were covered and this was when when Jacksonville was looking to score at the end of the first half and then you know, extend its lead at the time and then they would go into halftime not just ahead, but getting the ball back to start the second half. They were going for a two for one there, while Vonte Max coming up with a huge play there to turn things around. Dallas Goddard got the go ahead touchdown and the Eagles never

relinquished the lead after at that point. So a Vonte Max stepping up in a huge way, and you know, really the rookie class, Okay, a lot of people were talking about the Eagles only had five draft picks this year, and you know, one of those players Jordan Mailatta, who you know is not played to this point and obviously

is a developmental guy for down the road. But you are getting impact plays from Dallas Goddard, Avonte Maddox and now you're dying Josh Schweaton and makes you have Josh Adams as a rookie for agent who's contributing as well. You know, it's a lot of a great job of by Howard Roseman and Joe Douglas for getting them with

bang for your buck. Understanding that this year's draft class you didn't have a lot of volume, but you were going to try to get some as much quantity as possible, and you probably weren't thinking you were gonna get this much quality play in year one. You figure, Okay, maybe Dallas Godder is a nice compliment to Zach Ertz. You know,

maybe Ivanta Max worked his way on special teams. You weren't expecting him to step up and be your starting free safety, you know, at the quarter point in the season, and now flourishing in that role. So for me, the turning point of the game was late in the first half there, and of course, you know a lot of things happened after that, the Eagles got the big lead and Jacksonville trying to fight back. But for me, Avonte Max forcing that fumble. The Eagles have not done a

good job of generating takeaways this season. That was huge in my opinion and really provided a spark to this Eagles team needed. Yeah, you talked about Jacksonville fighting back when they eventually fought back and got in this game within two points and score seventeen to fifteen, and I'm over here tight, I mean tight, Yeah, I'm over here tight worrying about the Eagles blowing this game. And my turning point comes when the Eagles were able to push

the score to twenty four to fifteen. I thought that was huge. Jacksonville had all the momentum going for them. Eagles last game didn't score any points in the fourth quarter, so you got that cloud sort of hanging over their head where they give up a seventeen point lead last week to the Carolina Panthers, and you start to see this charge coming from the Jacksonville Jags, and you're wondering, Oh my god, are we about to experience this thing again, No,

we're not. Eagles take the ball down the field. Great job marching down the field. Big touchdown to Zach Ert from Carson Wentz to get that score to twenty four and really put a lot more pressure on the Jacks, making it a two score game, pumping it back up to a nine point lead. That I thought that was the turning point because if the Eagles don't score there, if they don't get a touchdown there, I don't think a field goal is enough. Jacksonville has an opportunity to

possibly win by kicking the field goal. As a score eventually got to twenty four to eighteen, who knows what happens then, So I thought that touchdown to Zach was huge. Points have been hard to come by. Especially scoring over twenty has been difficult for this team at times this year. That touchdown to ZAC I thought really gave them a

little breathing room. Indeed, So what we're gonna do now is we're gonna take a quick commercial breaker first of the afternoon here and I can't believe it's like one thirty and we've already experienced a full day of Eagles football. of Appleifications. So we just talked about the rookie impact in the last segment, especially from Dallas Scoddard who had the go ahead touchdown late in the first half after Vonte Max forced the Keel and Cole fumble. Well, how did that big touchdown come to fruition? Let's send it into the film room for the RICO review as the RICO whiteboard where fran Duffy and Great co Sell are standing by. Well, Greg, from your lips to the football gods Eeries, you get a Dallas god Or touchdown catch here.

You just called for him to get more involved in the passing game. Well we get him here on this great play show us here on first and ten. What we're looking at, how does Dallas reach the end zone? Well, one of the things that we've seen with the Eagles all year is they're very good out of their multiple tight end packages. Two tight ends, three tight ends. This play has three tight ends for m and they're all to the same side of the field in a closed formation.

And by a closed formation, we mean there's no one outside the three tight ends, so they're all tight to the formation. Now, when you study the Jaguars defense, and you and I have talked about this, every team defensively has a particular player they like to match up man to man to tight ends, to the best tight end. For Jacksonville, that's the safety Tayshawn Gibson. But look where he is. He's on the other side of the field.

So what is that an indicator of zone coverage? So the Eagles know that before the snap of the ball that this will be a zone concept. And I really love this play call because I love to see when the Eagles attack down the field and when they do it by design. And this is a throwback concept because Goddard actually works across the formation and then we'll break back inside. And what they do is they have boot

action with Carson Wentz. He's booting to his right, so this looks like boot that way, and that generates a reaction by the defense. They're not thinking throwback. So this is a really well designed play and let's take a look at it and you'll see how this works. Because the boot action defenses have rules for boot action. As you know, the rules don't include throwbacks. Yeah, so this is a throwback. Goddard makes the catch, is able to break the tackle there and get in the end zone.

This was really a well designed play out of what we call thirteen personnel, the three and the thirteen being three tight ends, and we can point them out once again right here there you see the three tight ends in the closed tight formation. And how the Jaguars matched up to this was with their base four three personnel. But one difference is they took Jalen Ramsey and they put him as the single high safety. That was purely

a function of the thirteen personnel. He was not matched on alshon Jeffrey here he was the single high safety. So let's clear it and just see this now from this angle. Really a beautiful play as we run it, great design. The Eagles were just oh they were outside the high red zone, just a little beyond the thirty. This is a shot play area for an offense. This was a shot play concept. And you know what I love about Goddard, such good hands and then transition so

quickly into being a runner. Yeah, no question about it. You got to see the total package there with Dallas Goddard and with Jacksonville being so shorthanded. I was very excited to see how they would try and match up to the Philadelphi Eagles and their multiple personnel packages. We got to see a great example of it there. Great touchdown, makes a ten to six right before halftime. Great stuff as always from France and Greg, and make sure to

check out the full All twenty two review. I hope they would release it a little earlier since we played at nine thirty in the morning, but maybe you have to wait still till Monday morning for the full twenty. It is the bye week, so we gotta get you something to get through the Bible, So maybe you have to wait till tomorrow. But thanks Rico for helping sponsor that segment right there. But again, it's a great play call. You're taking advantage of the tendencies of Jacksonville knowing what

that defense is going to try to do. They're trying to be trying to be aggressive, understanding it's a mass unit along the offensive line. The front four. R is great at bringing the heat. They can bring some extra bodies. Why not get Carson on the move, which is he's comfortable doing, and then you know, setting the play in the other directions to kind of off set the fast

flow of the linebackers. Yeah, great job by Dallas really sitting down in that zone or finding a hole in that zone so that Carson could get him the ball. He threw that ball on the rope, did a good job there after catching it, not going down yard exactly, the catch able to get in the end zone. Nicely designed play, great throw, great catch, And you know who actually made the underrated play there. He was in my thought process for Unsung Hero. But obviously he's just off

this one play. Josh Perkins a tight end because he's blocking Clay's campbell and does just enough to keep Carson Wentz clean. Actually did a very good job of not just keeping Wentz clean, but not getting called for a block in the back penalty. That was the biggest thing. Because I saw Perkins go for you, You're like, don't make the penalty, because the way the game had been going, you would have one of those self inflicted wounds that

would come back to haunt the Eagles. Fortunately, that wasn't the case there and the Eagles were able to get the touchdown and take the lead into halftime. Now speak of Dallas got is he one of the Toyota Player of the Week nominees. You have to stay tuned for these final words as we break them down on the other side here on the postgame show presented by Rico, what's the jogie? Are you seriously asking me that? What? You gotta have a good bread crisp like you confute it?

Can I take a bike light of tomato on you for me? It's to stop. It's all about to me. Pepper turkey, it's for me, Rush beef, generalis salami, RNA beef capit call astronomy. It's to me, fam, come on in, We'll feed you like family. I did say cheese, right, Swiss, pepper jack sharp purple. But I'm trying to get holy, but it feels like another lie. Yeah, I'm trying to say sometimes I realize that the further the more that

So we're gonna kick things off here with the rookie of Vonte Max. Again, to me, the game was going much of the same direction as last weekends Carolina from the standpoint where the Eagles were ahead of halftime gainst Carolina. But they were moving the

ball but left a lot of points on the board. Okay, And you felt that Jacksonville, despite the injuries in the secondary the off field incident, that they had to feel good about themselves that while the Eagles were moving the football, Jacksonville had the lead and they were moving the ball down the field to try to extend that lead into halftime. And of course they were gonna get the ball to

start the second half. But here we go of Vonte Max reading the play perfectly, knocking the ball from Keelan Cole recovered by Malcolm Jenkins. That turned the game around right there. So for me, that's why he's one of the nominees for the Toyota Player of the Week. Yeah. I love that play right there on third and one where he stops Carl's hide. So the thing I'm starting to like more and more about this kid. I can see why Jim Schwartz likes him out there on the field.

This dude loves contact. He doesn't mind tackle. He's not the biggest guy out there on the field, but he has a big heart. And that was the book on him coming out a pit that. Forget about how small he is. This kid loves to hit guys. And that was a great play right there on third and one, coming up to tackle Carlos high right there. All right. So Ifante Maddox rookie is our first nominee, well why don't we go back to another member of the twenty

eighteen draft class. How about the first pick, Dallas Goddard taking advantage of the turnover and score on the touchdown. We broke it down at the Rico Review and it was interesting from a game plan standpoint to see how involved Goddard would be because with the injuries to Jacksonville secondary, with the Eagls, just try to spread the field out and try to make Jacksonville play some of those third and fourth string defenders. Well, you still have to involve

number eighty eight. He's one of your best weapons on offense and he has a knack for finding the end zone and scored his third touchdown of the season here today. Yeah, he's never gonna get a bunch of targets, right, because there's a lot of weapons in this offense. But the key for Dallas is take advantage of the targets when they come to you. And that's what he was able to do today. I said earlier, great job of running

after the catch. Carson certainly trust him. That is a frozen rope to Dallas, and I love the fact caught it with his hands, didn't allow to the ball to get into his body where to bounce off of his chest. That's confidence in your hands. So you'd like to see that soft hands for a tight end. As a zach Ertz replica, I mean that's what he is. I mean they're wearing the arms leeve yeah, the number, the numbers

look look the same. I mean, so that's that's that's good news for US Eagles fans that you know, if this kid turns out to be anywhere near the player that Zach is, uh, We're gonna be happy with our tight ends for the next decade. The spike is the same. They spiked the football the same way as everything is pretty much the same. North Dakota State to South Dakota State. There you go, sne coda connection right there on a

world stage, nonetheless, and our last nominee. Great seeing number eighty being a featured part of the offense once again, it was early on. It was some big third down to receptions, but ninety three yards just whenever Carson wentz had had a go to play that had to be made, he went to his trusty, reliable guys. Guy has so much faith in great chemistry, great relationship, not just on the field but off Jordan Matthews, who you know has

been quite a fine for the Eagles. This for a right here, God, that was a heck of a play from Carson right there. Great job of Jordan catching the ball. I'm so happy to see Jordan Matthews back with the Eagles. Was always one of my favorite guys. Just a class great kid, kid, great teammate, great locker room guy. And you know the relationship that he and Carson built during Carson's rookie year and Jordan not able to be a

part of the super Bowl team last year. It's gonna play a big role in this offense as the season goes along, starting to build that rapport of Carson again, where Carson knows that he can trust Jordan, and Jordan's making plays when he gets the opportunities. I thought every catch Jordan made today was a big catch. Yeah, I mean it seemed like a game at a big time and this play right here was a huge catch. We talked about the trust factor. That's Carson saying I'm gonna

put the ball up to you. You go up and make a play for him, and Jordan was able to go up and make a play for him. Big play right here where Carson was able to get the ball to Jordan late in the game in the fourth quarter. So it's just great to see Jordan having success being back here in Midnight Green. I love that after a big win like this, the Toyota Player of the week.

Nomination process is difficult because there's other deserving candids. It's gonna be hard to pick a winner quite honestly, out of the bunch as well. All three of them are very deserving. You know, it's gonna be a toss up. We'll see who comes out with the win later on in the week. So as the Eagles enter the bye week, we can start looking ahead to the second half of

this season. The Eels are four and four, and we talked about Dallas Goddard well against his first stase of playing against Dallas in primetime at the Link in two weeks November eleventh. It's gonna be the Salute the Service game for the Eagles. But what a way to start the second half of the season. Well rested, feeling good, come off the win over Jacksonville, knowing you need this win to spark things in the second half of the season for you. Dallas is on the by this week,

so they're watching things from afar. But you know, you look at the start of that second half of the season, you need to get that win over Dallas because you go on the road to New Orleans and then you got a trifecta of NCY East games against the Giants Washington and then Dallas once again. To set yourself up. Yeah, I don't know if you could have asked for a better game to come off the bye week two. The fact that this would be a nationally televised game Sunday

night against the hated rival Dallas Cowboys. The players won't have any problem getting up for this game. It'll be at night, the link will be rocking. I can't wait two weeks from now. Sunday Night, Eagles Cowboys. A great way to start the second half of the season. You know, the energy won't be an issue for this team, and

they have to get off to a fast start. We just mentioned the other opponents after the Dallas Cowboys, the Saints sandwiched in between all NFC East games there, so they need to get started on the right foot against the Cowboys in two weeks. And why it's gonna be even more important with the NFC East. Washington leading the Giants by the score seven and nothing early in that contest. So you are on Giants, you know, the Eagles, you know,

doing their part by getting the foreign form. We'll take a look at the standings here, but Washington, look if it wins five and two, they're gonna be they're setting the tone so while no one's running away with it. It was so important that the Eagles got the win today, getting Dallas on the Bot and the Giants one and six, and you know they were sellers last week Trainway snacks Harrison and so they're they're done for twenty eighteen. They're

looking ahead to the future right there. Yeah, And a great thing about this situation where the riskins are is that you still play the riskins twice so you get a chance to handle your own business. You gotta take care of on the field. And that's the great thing about this second half is that we're gonna have a lot of divisional games. Yes, all right, So so tomorrow afternoon, so pretty much twenty four hours from now. Yeah, you're gonna be back on the air Sports Radio ninety four

wap Marks and Rees show. What's gonna be the hot topic? Is gonna be a sense of relief that the Eagles were in the same situation a week later and persevered. Is there going to be concerned whether the team can turn things up for the second hal of the season, or do you think Eagles fans say you know what, we got the big one going to the five. We've got Dallas coming up. Let's get used and see what

the second half of the season brings us. I would imagine tomorrow the fans will be excited to be happy that the Eagles has got to win. Listen, four and four is not gonna get a fan base overly excited better than three and five, no doubt about it. We'll take it, no doubt about it. But you know, I would imagine the week will be filled with or spent reflecting on the first half of the season. We'll be

talking about, you know, opportunities that we missed. But I think a lot of the fan base is still behind this team. They're still excited for the rest of the season. Not that there's a lot of football left to be played. So I'm pretty sure much of the week will be spent trying to focus on how this team can get get a little bit of a streak going right. They've been able to win a game. They haven't won two

games in rows, shocking at any point this season. The record says that right there, four and four, so they need to start stringing together a couple of victories. Fans will be happy about getting the w but you know this fan base, they won't be satisfied. No, nor should they be satisfied being four and four. But you mentioned the energy the link will have in two weeks, whether they host the Cowboys in prime time feels lost today, probably wouldn't be there. Okay, it's still you still get

for the Cowboys prime time. It wouldn't be the same knowing that you get to win today and at least you have four and four in the whole second half of the season ahead of you. So again marks the rees. Tomorrow afternoon Sports Radio ninety four WIP, we're gonna have Doug Peterson's press conference to get the bye rolling. That's tomorrow at noon on philadelphias dot Com, our app an all of our social media channels. So for ike reason, all of us here at the Philadelphia Eagles, I'm Chris McPherson.

You've been watching the postgame show presented by Rico. The Eagles go across the pond and knock off the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of twenty four to eighteen. Everyone enjoy the rest of this glorious Eagles Day.
