Hi everyone, and welcomed Inside Training Camp presented by Extendity. I'm David Spiedero, joined by Chris McPherson. Training Camp. Finally here, we've been waiting for so long, and on Saturday, the Eagles opening the gates at an overcare complex and despite some rain drops, Ship Kelly's Eagles getting in some good work. It was great to see everybody on the field. Chris, certainly the offense, the tempo was amazing. But we finally will get some answer to those questions which we've been

trying to answer off season long. We will get to that in just a moment. Here. We've got a nice segment for you here on Inside Training Camp on a busy Saturday, a lot of national media here. We'll catch up with Peter King from SI dot com, the MMQB dot com and everybody wants to know about the Eagles. Everybody wants to know about Chip Kelly. Year two. Let's get you caught up on everything that happened today, bo

Wolf with all the day's news. Thanks guys, and let me say it is a pleasure to be a part of the show here on Inside Training Camp. Chip Kelly talked to the media for the first time in training camp on Saturday, and he announced this succession plan at right tackle because, of course, Lane Johnson will miss the first four games of the regular season because of an NFL suspension, and the man at right tackle for now

will be the veteran Alan Barbie. Chip Kelly explained that decision, explained why Barbie will work with the starters right now throughout the training camp, and what Barbie did last season that was so impressive. We've seen Allen every day have been part of this thing going into a second year here.

We feel like he's a talented football player and it was really going to be pushing those guys if Lane wasn't out, he'd be pushing all those other guys for playing time because when he's had an opportunity to perform, he's done a great job. He did a great job again in the offseason program, and that's why we want

to have him back here. A few position battles, of course, to watch throughout training camp here all eyes on the backup quarterback position, the cornerback spot, and the safety spot where it looks like Nate Allen and Earl Wolf are competing to start alongside Malcolm Jenkins. Chip Kelly explained what Earl Wolf needs to do this year in his second season. Now, I don't think there's one thing he needs to improve on. I just think it's a general overall knowledge of what

we're doing a comfort level. More than that. I think if he asked him questions in terms of anything we're doing, he could answer it, But now can he implement it? You know, is it happening like that or is he thinking on the run that it's a double's formation, that motion to trips, we're going to ball snap. You know, it's he understands what the adjustments are going to be before the adjustments comes. So I think it's more of

him just getting comfortable on what we're doing. Following a practice that began under the sun and concluded under the rain, defensive leader Damiko Ryan's explained why this defense gets tested every day by the dynamic offense and why this team

should be among the best conditioned in the NFL. The tempo definitely helps with our condition I feel like we are really a well conditioned team, probably one of the best conditioned teams in the league, just because of the way we practice, the amount of reps that we get on a day. It really helps us because we're getting so many and so fast. We can't help but to be a good condition, more predictable than the weather. Are the questions that are going to be posed to Nick

Foles every time he meets the media. Yes he's more comfortable in his second season as a starter. Yes he expects this team to take a step forward, and yes he has confidence in Ellen Barberie stepping in at right tackle. He's a tremendous player, that's why we resigned him. And you know, he's a hard worker. Y'all get to see him during the games. I get, you know, and y'all are able to come to some practices and everything. But I get to see him in the meeting room. I

get to see him in the locker room. In the way room is a beast. Like I said, he gets after it is, you know, along with the other old line, and they've developed that core. I mean, those guys lift some weight in there, and they push each other. They want to compete. So when he got in there, I felt comfortable. I do only I don't even blink. I

just keep going. So many storylines to follow throughout training camp here at the novicare complex, and I know you guys are keeping an eye on all of them right here on Inside Training Camp. Well, thank you very much, bo Wolf. You know the Eagles bringing back Jeremy Macklin a one year contract during the offseason, Chris, and everybody

wants to know how number eighteen is doing. He's on the practice field on Saturday, and then afterward you had a chance to sit down and find out how he's feeling. I certainly did. Everyone wants to know how he's faring after that twenty thirteen season was lost due to the knee injury. So how does it feel? Well, you have to wait for this commercial break as on the other side of Inside Training Camp presented by kes Fity will

be by one on one with Jeremy Macklin. When I was a little kid, I thought riding sept it was just the coolest thing. I thought. I'm on this big piece of metal blazing down these tracks. There's people ringing bells above me, there's honking going on, there's trees flying by. It's fantastic. Hi. My name is Ronda. I work for Acte Markets for thirty years. Here at ACME community means everything to us. Prices have never been better going up and down the aisles. I do get a lot of

compliments when the lower prices your store looks great. I love the people, I love the shop here. I just think people are definitely seeing a change and seeing that it's getting better with ACNE. And it's not just the prices, it's the customers that are coming here talking it up. Come on in, check us out. We're back this summer. Bud Light is taking over a real town for people that are up for anything. They're calling it whatever USA, and there are so many amazing things going on. I

can't even tell you about them yet. I will reveal nothing except for how you get here. Hey, WHI tweeted the sound are okay? Spoiler alert, we have a salad bar. Bud Light is creating a town this summer, and you could go find out more. Up for whatever dot com Septa is the way to get to gain I love taking the subway down there because I feel like i'm you know, with all fans. Everybody's got their gear on. People are channing and cheering on the train before you

even get to the station. There's a sense of camaraderie because Philly loves their sports teams, it's really fun. It's Philadelphia. We're joined inside the studio here on Inside Training Camp presented by Spiny by former first round draft pick wide receiver Jerry Macklin and Jeremy Look. I know it's the first aid practice. You look smooth, you look fluid, you look explosive out there on the field, your first train camp practice since last season. How did you feel out

there today? I felt good, man, I felt good. I feel like I'm in even better shape than what I was coming into trading camp last year. And you know, right now, it's just all about continuing to build on that and continue to get that relationship down with Nick and offense and uh stand healthy that those are the most important things right now. Now, when the rain was coming down, did part of you think of your mind? Anah practice soon? And like I said, I've said this,

you know, million times before. You can't get caught up in whether or you know, trying to take it easy because you don't want something to happen. Um. You know. Luckily for me, my first catch out there, I kind of got tackled almost, you know, so it felt kind of good, you know, so, but yeah, you can't get caught up in that stuff, because the minute you start doing that, you know, the minute you start playing tim and that's kind of a bad thing start to happen.

You mentioned that connection with Nick. Why do you guys have such a good report? I mean this goes back to his rookie season where you have a game winning catch against the Buccaneers. Why do you guys have that connection? I just think we've we've built it over time. I think when you have a guy who's as talented and then then as consistent as Nick is, um, I think makes my job a lot easier. So I think as long as I'm in the right place at the right time,

I've kind of always been that guy. Just be at the right place at the right time, and then you know, Nick kind of makes my job easy. So I think we've worked together like that, and I think we've got, you know, a couple of years on our belt, so where we've kind of got familiar with each other in off season and now hopefully we can get a full season and play together. How much of a difference do you see in him coming into this training camp knowing

for the first time that he's the starting quarterback. I think I think that's something personally. You gotta ask him, But I think, uh, you know, from outside looking at it, I think it's I think it's a good thing. I think last year, kind of those two guys battling, um, it was almost Mike looking over his shoulder, Nick kind of looking forward. Uh, you know, they don't really Nick doesn't have anybody to worry about in that in that in that way. So I think that just gives them confidence.

I think it gives them h confidence that the Eagles know that this is their guy, this is our guy going forward. And I think that's that's all he has to worry about. Nana's going out there and taking control of the team. There's nothing, there's no competition, ornything to worry about. Eagles fans were so looking forward to seeing you in this offense last season. Why do you think it's such a good fit for what you bring to the table as a receiver. I just think I'm very versatile.

I think, you know, I can play inside and outside. I can you know, go in motion, I can come out the backfield. These are the things that I did, and these are the things that made me the nineteen overall pick in two thousand and nine. So I'm excited. I'm excited to kind of put my own little twist on it. I'm excited to kind of see how they use me, and I'm excited to help this team go to the next level. Man, I think I think we

got the guys to do that. How are you guys able in practice to play at such a fast tempo like the way you did today? Being it that was just the first training camp practice, it looked like that you guys have been working for weeks. Yeah, you know, because you're not starting over. I think you know, people they put in stuff doing OTAs and they come to training camp and they start over. We're not doing that.

We're just flowing right through. And I think that keeps everybody on top of everything, and that keeps everybody upbeat, and I think it keeps everybody kind of fresh. You know the fact that we can go from here and now five weeks later, we can just pick off where we left off, and I think, you know, I think that's going to set us apart from a lot of teams. And I think already the number of reps that we get in practice or way above you know, the norm

for for this league. So how much farther are you guys compared to last year when you were just installed that offense for the first time. Way father, I mean, now we kind of know how Chip, you know, runs everything. We know how Chip runs his training camp. Um. You know, so now let you go out there and play. You know, you let your athletic ability to show. And you go out there and like I said, put your own little twist on it. What's like playing for Chip Kelly? It's

it's it's great, It's great, you know. And you know I was, I was a coach, read guy, you know, to the fullest. But uh, you know, Chips come in and you know, he's um really turned the culture around a little bit, kind of got everybody back motivated, got everybody back, uh energized. And I think guys really respect him. And I think when you come in and you earn the respect of your team. I don't think he came in and try to force us to respect him. I think he earned his the respect that we give him

and and vice versa. And I think you know, once you have that relationship with a head coach, I think you know, the rest is history. I think you can do a lot of great things with that was there any one thing that he did to earn the guy's respect. I just think everything they he says has been true. Every I mean, anything that that he's ever preached has been honest. And I think, you know, if a coach is honest with you, that's the one thing that you asked him to do. And he's been like that since

day one. Jerry Macklin, best of luck for the rest of training camp, and we'll have more on the other side here on Inside Training Camp, presented by Expanity, Sweat it says I was here, I worked here. It says, I only have so much to give before I have to take what I lose. I want to get back. Sweat says, I this gatorade created to help replace what you sweat out. Well, it's very encouraging to hear that Macklin is feeling good and all systems go for him

in this training camp period. And obviously the Eagles counting on him to be a big part of his offense obviously, and he thinks he could be a big player in his offense. He thinks it fits his skill set perfectly, with his ability to move around the formation, similar to what made him a first round pick, as he said back in two thousand and nine, but he's not the only wide receiver who we're gonna be talking about here

on Inside Training Camp. Well, Mike, first round pick in nineteen eighty two, made a career of non attending training camp, doing everything he could to avoid it. He was here today watching, of course, the radio analyst on the Eagles radio network, and Quick is very excited to see how Jordan Matthews, the rookie from Vanderbilt, fairs in Chip Kelly's offense.

The biggest thing is learning everything, and when you first start to learn the different nuances of what they have to do, the harder partner is going to be how fast everything's moving. And I know you've heard that things will slow down eventually and usually in that second season, but early on it's going to be so hard just learning what you have to do on every play and then trying to marry that to what's happening on the other side of the ball. And that's the tough part.

But I think both these guys they've been in very good systems. And when you talk Hugh, he was in Chip Kelly's system before, so I think it should come a little quicker for him the comfort level. But looking at Matthews and the way he studies and the way he approaches the game, that's really exciting for me because I'm I can't wait to see what this guy can do in this offense. Well, if that's very good stuff from quick and look the Eagles going through one day practice.

We're not going to tell you the depth start. We know that Alan Barber is the starter right now at right tackle. Interesting that Chip Kelly handling it this way. Chris Lane Johnson immediately running with the twos. The Eagles want to get Barbara ready for the start of the season against the Jaguars. He's the right tackle. Certainly, those

first four games are gonna be crucial. He wants to make sure that the team is prepared, so he's sending him as also to Lane john saying, you have to take personal responsibility for your own actions, not messing around whatsoever. So he's sending clear making Lane Johnson work with the second team offense and Alan Barber getting a chance. Wrong with the first team. We have not talked at all so far here today about the defense, but good communication

from this secondary. Chris Malcolm Jenkins working nicely with Nate Allen, some of these young cornerbacks, Jaylen Watkins getting some good reps, Nolan Carroll pushing Carrie Williams, Bradley Fletcher running behind Fletcher at the left cornerback position, and what do you want to see from that defensive backgroup as training camp goes along? Great competition. Now, Caro had a nice pass breakup in practice today and during the training session, so a good

first day for him. But sirly, you're looking to push those stars, push Bradley Fletcher, push Carry Williams. You know Bryan Boykin who obviously he has his home in the slot, that's where he's going to remain. And Jail Watkins. How are they going to develop album? But I'm also seeing how are they utilizing Malcolm Jenkins. They wanted this defense to be much more versatile in the second year of

Bill Davis's scheme. That's why they made Jenkins the number one priority in free and because of ability to play safety because he can come down in this slot if necessary. So how does this overall the secondary come together and how much more cohesive is it than it was at this time last year? Big plays during the practice session. Darren Sprowles getting free down the right side, beating Brian Brayman for a big play and a really is Ben

making a roster push? Certainly healthy. Now he gets behind Ed Reynolds catches a touchdown pass from Nick Foles, and of course the crowd and goes crazy. We had a chance to after practice to talk to Peter King from the MMQB dot com, and he makes a comparison Chip Kelly with a former Dallas Cowboys head coach who's wearing those two big Super Bowl rings. Chip Kelly has a really good coaching staff, and two thirds of those guys

nobody knows. You know Chip now. And I think one thing is that he understood down the stretch last year. I said to somebody that he reminds me in the second half of year one of the impact that Jimmy Johnson had in year two with the Cowboys. Because remember when Jimmy Johnson came in twenty five years ago. He came into the Dallas Cowboys and everybody said, wait a minute, what about all these small, fast guys. You can't win without size in the NFL. Well, Jimmy Johnson proved basically,

you can win with a bunch of smaller guys. At one point he had the smallest defense in the NFL, in the lightest defense, and he won. He built a dominating defense, and I think Chip Kelly by saying to the football establishment, hey, I respect everybody, but you know, we're gonna play in a little bit of a different way. We're gonna play very fast, and we're going to try to do things the way. There's no reason football's football

the way we played at Oregon. There's no reason why we can't win that way here, and by December he was proving it. You can watch the entire interview with Peter King on Sunday morning, eight o'clock. It'll be live on Philadelphia Eagles dot com, our mobile app, and of course our mobile website.
