No treats for the Eagles on Sunday night in Arlington, Texas. It's the day after. I'm David Spidero. This is Brian Westbrook. It's Eagles three sixty, and we're here to talk about a very, very tough loss in overtime to the Dallas Cowboys twenty nine twenty three. We're gonna break it all down right here for you, b west You've been through these games. M How do you how do you assess what happened last night? Well? I think as a team,

they came out and they started fast. They play well for three and a half quarters, but the other parts are starting fast. You have to finish strong, and the one thing that we didn't see last night was our team finished strong. You have to find a way to make some plays, especially in the fourth quarter, and that's where we failed at How do young players and a rookie coach, how do you learn to finish well these

types of experiences? I mean, in order for you to learn and understand the importance of finishing drives, making plays, catching the ball on the defense and offensive side, you have to go through some of these experiences. And unfortunately we're on the losing side of it. We still weren't able to win the football game. But when you go through these experiences, that's when you start to learn. These things hit home when when you're flying home after losing

an overtime of Dallas. Did you feel when you came to the Philadelphia Eagles from Villanova that the Eagles had already been through those experiences and that they had learned how to close games? Well, the difference between when I came in and right now is that when I came in, this team had been building for three or four years. Now this team is at the beginning of those building stages, and so just a different position. Just look at the

Dallas team. They already have an offensive line there. They have a young quarterback, but they have receivers that have been there for a long time. Defensively, they're already built. We're at the beginning of the process and we're still hanging in with these types of teams, and so that should be some encouragement for our fans as well as the players. Eagles four and three. Now, we're going to

talk about this one as we get into the show. First, though, Doug Peterson meeting the media a little groggy on this Monday, the Eagles landing at five thirty am. Doug Peterson's coaching staff came right to the Novercare Complex. He met the media at noon. This is our Eagles three sixty update with Alex Smith, the very latest on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hi everyone, I'm Alex Smith here with your three sixty update. Well, the Eagles don't have a lot of time to dwell on last night's twenty nine to twenty three loss to the Dallas Cowboys, as they have another NFC East matchup

with the New York Giants coming up on Sunday. Today, we heard from head coach Doug Peterson, who started out by giving an injury update, and there was good news and bad news for the Eagles as he said that Benny Logan is expected to be back at practice this week, but starting left guard Alan Barber could be week to week. Andy Logan is doing much better. We'll see where he's at. We'll probably limit him a little bit. He should return to practice this week and and uh get him, get

him some reps and see where he's at. Alan Barbery left ham string strain will be a week to week decision on him. Whiz did well whiz did well. You know, he's such a he's such a competitor and he's he's a pro focuses in on his his assignments, his job, and uh, you know he's hitching to play, and then

he got an opportunity and played well. The Eagles played well for three and a half quarters against Dallas last night, leading by ten points into the fourth, but Peterson said today that the Eagles have to find a better way of finishing out these close games. I mean, we just gotta learned to finish, bottom line, You gotta learned to finish. It comes down when it comes down to that crunch time at the end of the game. I mean, you know, we had opportunities to sack the quarterback, um let him out.

We had opportunities to make plays on the ball. You know, we didn't do it. We had chances of of completing some passes you know whether protection, but we didn't. And those are those are all learning and teachable moments for a team that we were young on offense as skill positions. We understand that, but those are those are moments that are going to make us better down the stretch and we just have to learn to finish. And uh and

focus on that um. Each and every week, you can watch all of Doug Peterson's press conference on demand right here on Philadelphia Eagles dot com and the official Eagles mobile app. And with your three sixty update, I'm Alex Smith. Thank you so much, Alex. We look forward to having Coach Peterson in studio on Tuesday's Eagles three sixty. When

we return, we're going to talk about the Eagles. Of course, we'll start on the defensive side of the ball, outstanding for the first three quarters, and change what happened at the end. What do the Eagles learn from that loss in Dallas last night. We'll be right back. He's good, dad,

I'm Duncan. We welcome you back at Eagles three sixty. Dave Spidero, Brian Westbrook and Brian we talked last week, how would the Eagles match up against the Dallas offense with all of these weapons,

with a great offensive line, with mobility at quarterback? Davis Bryant coming back into the mix. Your thoughts on the Eagles for sixty minutes? Well, I think as a whole you talk about the entire game. There was some situation where they could have done a much better job at tackling surrounding the football, at least containing Dak Prescott, maybe slowing down Dez Bryant at the line of the scrimmage.

But when you know, when you're talking about one of the best rushing teams in the league, and you hold their best rusher is Zegel Elliott under a hundred yards, that's not bad. He aver twelve point one yard to carry. But when you hold them under a hundred yards, that's a win. As far as a defensive side of the ball. A couple of those situations, if they could have stopped them, they could have tackled them and not allow that extra surge by Zekiel Elliott, then it would have changed the

game just a bit. It appeared that momentum really changed. The Eagles have an opportunity late in the game with six minutes left. They're driving. We'll talk about the play call. The third down play to Darren Sproser loses six yards. Eagles. Instead of kicking your field goal to go up by ten points, they pumped the ball away. Dallas gets it and goes down the field. Does momentum play a part in this? No question. Momentum is a huge part of this.

And but here's the other thing in that situation, when you're when you're pumped the ball away and you put your defense on the field and you say, for them to win this football game or at least a tiet they have to go ninety yards against our defense. I trust Jim Schwort, I trust Monk, when Jakis McCloud, all those guys, Fletcher Cox, I think as a coach, those are the things you have to weigh, and as a

rookie coach sometimes you make the wrong decisions. But I think if you're Doug Peterson, I'm saying I'm going to trust my defense ninety yards for the other team to go down and they have to score a touchdown, not just a field goat. I'll take my chances with the guys that we have on the defense side of the ball. I really liked what Jim Schwartz did. He mixed in

the blitz. They got pressure on Dak Prescott. Leodis mcklevin was beaten early for that big play to Den Bryant, but for the most part solid that was as good as I've seen Leodis mcklevin play. Still has the legs and the Eagles just did a big turnover from Jordan Hicks that leads to three points before the end of the first half. A good performance from the defense, just not the stops that they needed late in the fourth

quarter and then in overtime. That's the key, I mean the timing when they played good defense for most of the game. The timing, though, when you have that third down, you need to make those plays. We're talking about the fourth quarter. This is money time. This is where teams, the good teams come to play. They'd make the big plays. Unfortunately, we didn't make those plays in the fourth quarter and

that's where we lost the game. It's been really interesting, Brian, watching this Eagles team dominate at home and the defense has been outstanding in wins over Cleveland, in Pittsburgh and Minnesota. On the road, though, Eagles have allowed twenty four plus points in the last three games Detroit, Washington and Dallas. You see anything there on the road? What do you do to get better? Well, I think you're playing different

types of quarterbacks on the road too. I think Stafford has ability to move just a little bit outside of the pocket, so when you're blitzing him, he can shift just a little bit and slide and avoid the blitz. At home you're talking about, you're playing quarterbacks that can't do that. You get big Ben and he can slide just a bit, he avoids the rush. But we were able to get to him early. The same thing here in this last game. You have Dak on the road.

Now he's able to avoid the rush, he's able to get outside of some of those some of those blitzes in great contain and we have to do a better job with that number one. But it's a different type of quarterback that you're playing at home and on the road. And I think this defense. You're right, they play much better defense at home. They get behind it. I think the crowd brings them into the gang. We have to

find a way because good teams aren't. They played well at home, of course, they protect their house, but on the road they find a wing two. We had to figure out how to do that. We got to talk about special teams here because special teams played such a big part in things. Caleb Sturgis three of three on his field goals, a boomer at fifty five yards to

give the Eagles a halftime lead. Outstanding season for Sturgis who just made sixteen straight field goals, big time kicker, and then the Eagles late in the third quarter of the defense gets off the field and on fourth and eighth the Cowboys perfect execution on a fake punt that leads to three points. Now, the Eagles get that three points back, helped by Josh Huff and his big kickoff return.

I thought though from just a momentum standpoint, from a mental standpoint, that fake punt really factored into the fourth quarter. There's no doubt about it. As a team where you have him down, you're almost off the field. Defensively, you've done your job. You have them off the field fourth and eight. You don't have that expectation of a fake punt at that point because they have eight yards to go.

This is a long situation on fourth down. The other part is that where's the ball that they're deep in their own territory, So you kind of understand as far as the special team philosophy, they're not going to fake it. But it's a great, great play for the Cowboys. You lose a momentum right there. I mean, when when you're swinging it from offense to defense, the Cowboys to the Eagles you will lose a momentum if they fake a punt and they're successful. Just imagine if we would have

stopped that fake punt. Then of course, now we have the momentum. They get that first down. That hurt us a lot. Still, though you think about Eagles had a ten point lead in the fourth quarter. Anybody would have signed up for that. We'll talk about the offense when we return here to Eagles three sixty. A tough, tough, tough last quarter four of the Eagles. What happened? We'll break it down next. This portion of Eagles three sixty was presented by Toyota. Now is your chance to vote

Time to talk about the Philadelphia Eagles offense from Sunday Nights lost to the Dallas Cowboys. Dave Spidero, Brian Westbrook, I liked what the offense did for the most part. I like the short passing game, control the line of scrimmage, Carson Wentz get the football out of his hands quickly. It worked really well, Brian until Beagles get down into Dallas Cowboys territory six minutes left in the game, second

and eight, they tried Josh huff on the wide receiver pass. Yeah, your thoughts on that, you know, I think the time of the game. That's probably the issue. They are, just the timing of the situation. I didn't love that play call. I didn't have a huge problem with I just didn't love it. I think consistency at that point, let's continue to just work the things that have been working for a special play, a trick play at that point in

the game, that probably wasn't the right time. And that said, I still thought Jordan Matthews could have made a better play on the ball. Question, maybe didn't see it as well,

maybe didn't locate it, whatever, but there was a catchable ball. Well, the ball is coming from a different point, so instead of the middle of the field where quarterbacks that the ball's coming from almost on the sideline, so you're seeing the ball a little bit different differently as a wide receiver, so it's hard to find some of those balls, especially at nighttime in the dome. That's no excuse at this point, but we have to we have to deal with some of the factors as well. He has to do a

better job. He's a number one receiver here in this offense. He has to find a better way to complete some of those balls. Help out the quarterback Josh Up as well. And then on third and eight the Eagles at the thirty yard line, the flare up pass out to the right side, Darren sproles, the Cowboys smother it a six yard loss. The play call. What do you think, you know? I think what Doug was thinking. We have to find

a way to get the ball to Darren Sprows. I mean, he's been our all all of our offense for the most part of the day. We have to find different ways. They've used them on draws, they use them on quick screens, they use them on different type of running plays. And I think that was just Doug's attempt to try to find a different way to get Darren in space. What I think Doug didn't take in to account is Sean Lee. I mean he speeds to the ball, he reads things,

he dissects plays aggressively, and he gets after it. That's the part that you kind of miss time and place. You're talking about time and score, we talk about at that point you just needed a few more yards to get a closer field goal. I think that's where we kind of lost it, between the play call and the execution of the player and then the decision not to kick the field goal. There is gonna be a long kick.

I think again you're saying, Okay, let's trust our defense if we miss, if something crazy happens, even though you have a lot of confidence in Caleb Sturgeon just because he's been kicking well, I think you want to kick at that point because of his pedigree, what he's done so far. But the thought process is that we're gonna pin these guys deep, make them go ninety yards and they have to score a touchdown. Hopefully our defense may bend just a bit, but as long as they don't break,

we're good. Unfortunately, our defense couldn't come up with a big play. That's where we get hurt of big picture here, Brian Eagles not getting the explosive chunk plays that they need from the offense. Carson Wentz a good game, but just two hundred and two yards long of fourteen yards. What's going on there? How do you unlock these wide receivers for over seventy percent completions for Carson wentzwiz is a great thing for a young quarterback on the Sunday

night football everyone's watching. The problem is, and we've had this problem almost all year long, we're not as aggressive down the field throwing the football, and a lot of things go into it. First of all, you have to have the protection. I think the offensive line did a pretty good job of protecting Carson last night. He has the time. They have to have receivers that are going to run great routes and fight through the ball down the field, and then you have to have the throw.

I think part of the issue is that we don't have the receivers right now that can go down there and make these big time play. They have to do a better job. I think they have the ability, they have their speed to get down the field, but making the play on the ball, there's just a disconnect there somewhere. Yeah, Heagle's trying to get it done. You're a lot of horizontal passes and Carson Wentz. I still think really great

command of the offense, excellent accuracy, great poise. But two games here in the season on the road, the Eagles failed to hold a lead in Detroit, failed to hold a lead at Dallas, and we just look for that sixteen minute effort. Well, one of the things that you have to be patient with this team. I think it's a rebuilding effort. I think because we started out so hot, it's hard to be patient. But again, you talk about weapons, you're talking about those big plays. You need, those chunk plays.

You have to have the proper weapons around your quarterback. In some situations, we have the right weapons, they're just not making the plays. That's the disconnect. That's what happens where young teams. A young teams are critical situations, you don't make those big plays that you need to make to win. This team has to get a little bit older, a little bit more matured, but they also have to figure out a way how to make big plays at those critical times in the game. Right now, we're not

making them. Very quick turnaround for the Philadelphia Eagles this week when we return to Eagles three sixty, we'll look ahead another NFC East tussle on the road at Medlife Stadium. York Football Giants. Next up for the Eagles on his very tough schedule since they've come off the bye week. It's not gonna get any easier. It isn't getting any And the Giants, I don't know what to make of them. They throw the ball really well, they don't run the ball too well. They're four and three rate in the mix. Um, what do you look at when you see the Giants? Well, anytime that you have a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, you have a chance. You have a playmaker on the outside,

and O'Dell Becklan Junior, you have a chance. The one thing that we're kind of missing to some of those explosive plays, well, that guy on the other team, Odell Becklan Junior, he is that type of guy that can make those explosive and he's very volatile as far as his attitude, but on the field, when you're talking about just the play making ability, he has that ability. And

anytime you have that type of player, you're in the game. Offensively, they're thirty second in the league running the football, averaging just over seventy yards a game. I gotta believe Jim Schwartz is gonna go after Eli Manning, who cannot escape the blitz, who does not want to get hit, and he's gonna want to get the football out quickly to Sterling,

to Beckham, to cruise Eagle secondary with a huge chast. Well, again, we talked about the defense and how they play different type of quarterbacks, and I think this actually plays very well into the hands of the Eagles. When you have a quarterback that's going to be at one place, Sam Bradford, you know where he's gonna be at some zone blitzes, He's gonna be seven yards behind the center. Let's get after him. He's not gonna move a lot. He will chuck and duck, he will throw the ball to the

other team. You just have to talk to him and get around him, pressure him, being his space at the beginning of the football game. And then your defensive guy, your secondary guys, they have to be prepared and ready for that those week throws. They have be ready for that type of pressure from your defensive line, your linebackers as well. If they're there and ready, those interceptions will come.

And I want to see the Eagles offense against a giant team that really doesn't rush the quarterback very well. I want to see Vitai Hellopoli, Vati Vitai against you know, Jason Pierre Paul the last couple of weeks. I want to see how the Eagles attack a secondary that is vulnerable. So it's a new day for the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a tough tape for all of us after losing to the Dallas Cowboys, but we've got a whole lot of season ahead of us, and I feel encouraged about the

way this team fights, the way this team's coached. They just got to finish, finished, finished, finish well. This team easily could have went down to Dallas and folded. This team has some fight in it. The thing about it, they have to learn how to finish. That's a process. That's something that you learn over time. If they continue to fight, they'll figure out a way to finish. Doug Peterson is a good coach. He just has to coach. These guys are young, young team. A young bunch of

guys is once they figure that out. I think they'll be all right. All right, so we've got one segment to go here, Eagles three sixty. We're gonna tell you what's ahead. Doug Peterson in studio on Tuesday. Some final thoughts from Brian Westbrook when we return on Eagles three sixty. This portion of Eagles three sixty was presented by Santon Dair. the Eagles loss at the Dallas Cowboys. We've got Doug Peterson, head coach in studio and we'll take a look around the NFC East. Amarrosso's the reason Philly Sandwich is are so famous. The Cowboys, Brian, all of a sudden, the two game lead. They're good. Yeah, they're good. And the thing that they do so well, yeah, we're we're close. And that's the thing, we're very very close. We have to learn how to win those hard cut those hard games and those critical moments, we have to figure out

the way to win. So that's a good final thought. Figure out a way to win on a short week, big emotional challenge for the Eagles. Is it tough Brian to play on a Sunday night against your most heated rival and then get back up for another heated next Sunday. I don't think it's tough at all anytime you're playing anyside of your division against guys that you know very well. We know this this Giants team, We know these guys. We know what Beckham is going to bring to the table.

We know what Eli is going to bring to the table. We know defensively that they don't have any stars in the secondary. We can throw the ball against them. For us, we should be prepared and ready for this football game. It shouldn't be hard to get up for division foes. This is a game that you want. You want to get them out there on that football field and figure out a way to win. This is an important game

for us. What's the key then, players, Monday and Tuesday that rest and recovery, Just get your mind right, go back and look at the film and say, okay, here's a mistake I could have done this a little bit better. I should have done that a little bit better. And now I'm ready to go out there and physically dominate the team because that's what That's the type of efforts you're gonna need this week. You're gonna need your front four to dominate the Giants offensive line. You're gonna need

to win in the trenches. I want to run the football a little bit more next week. I want to get Ryan Matthews involved. I want to get all our running backs involved. We want to dominate. We want to set the tone early. If you're able to do that and get some rest. You're talking about Monday and Tuesday after a long flight, getting in early, you get some rest, get your body back, hydrated, and ready to play some football. Coming hungry on Wednesday. This team needs to be hungry,

and I think Doug can get these guys going. It's the midway point of this two thousand and sixteen season. We've got a whole week to talk about the Eagles and the Giants. Another big one up north on Sunday. Brian Westbrook, Dave Spidero, we thank you for joining us on Eagles three sixty. Have yourselves a Great Eagles Day,
