Hello everyone, and welcome Eagles three sixty on this Wednesday dates the Narrow along with Mike Quick, the Hall of Famer of course, Mike, how are you doing? Great? Good to see you, Thank you, and Thanksgiving everybody. We got a big one on Monday night the Packers come to town. They are really down this season. They are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in eight years. They've got a bunch of injuries. This, Mike looks well,
looks like an easy one. Eagles dominated home four and oh, let's cruise through Monday nights. That would be nice. But they're no easy ones in this league and you know that. Um. Yet, the Packers have a lot of injuries. They've got on every level. They've got injuries. UM, lost a lot of games recent times. But they're still the Green Bay Packers. They still have Avon Rodgers at quarterback. Yeah, and that means a lot of the Eagles defense ready for an
aerial attack. We will get into the Green Bay Packers a little bit later on. First, we want to get to caught up with everything happening on a very busy Wednesday here at the Novocare Complex. Multiple players and head coach Doug Peterson meeting the media are three sixty Update with Alex Smith. Hi everyone, I'm Alex Smith here with your three sixty update. The Eagles are back at work here at the Novocare Complex as they get set for
a Monday night matchup with the Green Bay Packers. One of the big stories for the Eagles this week concerns wide receiver Nelson Aguiler, who has had his struggles here in twenty sixteen, but inside the locker room, he's got nothing but support from players like Brent Sellek, Jordan Matthews, and fellow first round pick Brandon Graham, who knows what it takes to bounce back from early career struggles. He's a good player. I mean, dude was the first round
draft pick. Can make plays in this league. You know, gives one hundred percent effort all that. So, Um, he's good. You know he'll get back. Um, but you know, he just just gotta believe it. He's doing okay. Um. You know his uh, his girlfriend's been in town. She's been spent tut with him. He's been with some of the guys. We've actually went to Carson's house Monday night, spent some
time there. The last two days, we've just been at the Quarterback's House fellowship and spending time and you know, he's been great. Like I said, Nelson's a positive guy. So I know that he's you know, maybe this might be a tough time, but at the same time, he is going to understand. He's gonna get better from him, He's gonna learn how to grow from him. Oh yeah.
In the beginning, I was I was talking back to fans, I was saying all kinds of stuff that wasn't me, that kind of got me out of being who I was. And once I kind of let go everything and kind of got over it, you know, to where whatever people say it kind of bounced off me where it was like whatever. That's when everything started to kind of go go towards the top. So I think for him, he just got to make sure he just continued to be
Nelson Aguila, that guy here. You know, off what they saw and they know, you know what I'm saying, they do a good job here. Yes, you hid and missed, but I don't think he a miss guy. I think it's just all in this sage. Sticking with the wide receiver position, we heard from undrafted rookie Paul Turner, and whether or not he's active or not on Monday, he's still taking his preparation the same as he would any other week. I mean, honestly, I mean, obviously it means
a lot. It's something that you dream of as a child, that you always want to do, and that's to be an NFL player. So I just think being out there Monday night is it's gonna be surreal. And I just think ultimately that I'm just just give thanks to God because I know without him none of this will be possible. All right, Well, that will wrap things up here from the Novacare Complex, But we have a cornucopia of press conferences on demand here on Philadelphiagles dot com, including from
head coach Doug Peterson, quarterback Carson Wentz, and others. So be sure to check all that out right here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com and the official Eagles Mobile app. Until next time, all Eagles fans have a happy Thanksgiving. The Eagles will be back at work on Friday. Thanks much, Alex. We got to talk about this, Mike. You are the former five time Pro Bowl wide receiver. You've been through this,
You've seen a lot of receivers come and go. You've obviously understood what's happening with this group of wide receivers. So what is going on with this group in particular, in particular Nelson Agilor and the struggles that he's having. Well, I know everyone's talking about Nelson, and for good reason. Um, Nelson just has to somehow get beyond where he is. You know, you watch him play and you know that there's talent there. You watch him practice, and he's got
good hands. They're not great, but he's got good hands. He's got speed, he's explosive, he's got a lot of tools. But he has to get beyond Nelson and let all of those tools out. How do you do I mean, how do you do that? How do you how do you just take That's that's the million dollar question. If I could answer that, then I think Nelson and all of us will be a whole lot better. Um, it's just it's something that he has to work through himself.
Like I said, the skills are there, but mentally everything is not there. And obviously, because he's already come out and said it, he has to work through that somehow to get to where he's comfortable on the field, Mike Paul Turner comes up. We don't know yet if Paul will play on Monday Night. Your thoughts on Paul what
he showed you in preseason. I thought he caught the ball, and I think he catches the ball as well as anybody on the roster, some of the other guys who are more athletic wide receivers, faster and all these things. But you know, your primary job when you're a receiver is to catch the football, and he does that very well. And I do believe as well as anyone on the roster and this group as a whole, in the final six games here step up and really be productive and
take this team to where it wants to go. I think this group mixed with the three wide other three tight ends, and you're starting to see more three tight end packages. You're starting to see Zach Ertz starting to step up and utilizing those three guys at the same time on the field. That has to be an extension of your passing game, and where the passing game it's probably the strongish Right now, We've got a lot to get to. We're gonna talk about the Eagles and the Packers.
The first look at the green Bay Packers. We're gonna go behind enemy lines as well and find out just how banged up Green Bay is coming into this game. But when we returned to Eagles three sixty, we're going to hear from a group that has just been fantastic for the Eagles for four seasons. In to talk about it here Special Teams Coordinator Dave Phip, Thanks for joining us, Dave, and let's talk about the idea of outstanding special teams play. And it's clear that the message did you deliver is received very earnestly enthusiastically by your guys. Oh, I'd say we got a bunch of good players and that helps ultimately the whole time.
He starts from the top, and Jeffrey Lurie does a great job emphasizing it. It's important to him and then on down the ladder with Howie and Joe Douglas, and then obviously a head coach who supports it. And then obviously we got a bunch of great players who are unselfish and commit themselves to play well on special teams, Dave, For those fans who don't know as much about those players, who would you identify? They know Darren Sprowls, and they know Caleb and they know John dorm Boss, they know
Donny Jo. Who would you identify as kind of the unsung core really valuable guys on your special team? So I'd say the hardcore four core players or guys like Chris Marriges, Brian Brayman, Trey Burton, and then you have a guy like Nagy Good. But then you get a bunch of contributions from a bunch of different guys, which is what makes it fun and unique. Like for example, Smallwood had a great game for us on last Sunday against the Seahawks. He made two tackles. The week before
that he made a tackle. So you get to develop and grow young players and see you guys grow up in the league, Dave, what are some of the keys to making a player like Smallwood or Trey or any of these players good in coverage? What are some of the fastest, some of the things you really emphasize. I would say, first and most important, it starts with the players. He's got to want to be good. If the guy wants to be good, then you can help him out,
I think. I mean, there's a lot of different techniques and fundamentals that we teach pad level avoidning, blockers, decision making, whether they can run around blocks or have to go over the top of blocks depending on where the ball carrier is where they are. There's a number of things that you can help a guy out with and teach him. Mentioned Chris marrages he and Donnie Jones and John Dornbass
last week signed contract extensions. What kind of feeling does that give you, Dave, knowing that those three will be here for years to come. Yeah, that's outstanding for me. I mean, those positions are critical, obviously, and those guys are the heart and soul of everything that we do. So ton't know that those guys are coming back and you don't have to worry about That makes everything a whole lot easier, and you've got the machine really intact.
The operation with John and Donnie as the holder and now Caleb, who's a year plus into being a Philadelphia Eagle. Caleb's interesting to me, big leg draft pick in Miami, things inconsistent theories become very consistent here. What have you seen from him in terms of growing as an NFL consistent kicker? Yeah? I love that because in my mind, I think everybody just deserves a chance, And if you really give a player a chance and show that you believe in a guy, it's amazing how far somebody can
really go. And I think he's a great example of that. But here's a tremendous talent. You always knew he had the talent. Obviously, things didn't go quite as well way at the very beginning there, which is happens a lot with a lot of these guys. But if you just show that you believe in them and trust them and stay with them, and then you know, work on refining their technique and skills, I think he can go along way. Dave, what's the feeling you have when the Eagles go out
and return a kickoff? It has been so dynamic since you've been here. Remarkable this year the Eagles leave the NFL in starting spot after a kickoff. I mean, it is just what a game play, a game changing play, it's been for the Eagles. Yeah, that's been great. I wish I could say I remember all the great plays. Unfortunately, for me, I think about all the players that didn't go the way that we want them to. But these
guys are great. They really work hard. They do a great job of executing the techniques and fundamentals, and they play with a passion, and for me, it's just a tremendous honor to be a part of them and coaching them. If your standpoint, now we're in late November here, the weather is turning. How much does that change special teams? It definitely has in fact on it. I think he saw that last week with the twelve missed extra points.
Some of those were blocked from Some of those were indoors, so the weather didn't affect it, but a bunch of them obviously were outdoors. So playing in the Northeast, you're gonna get some weather. It's just a part of it. But to me, it makes it, It makes it more exciting and really more fun. You make an excellent segue for me here, I want to talk about the new rules, twelve missed extra points last year. The NFL clearly thrilled it.
The extra point is no longer a gimme what is happening from your standpoint, just around the league on these miss extra points it hopefully it won't happen in Philadelphia. Yeah. No, I think the weather obviously played a big part in that. And at the end of the day, it's a thirty three yard field goal, which is not just to give me.
I mean, I know that these guys hit him out of high percentage, but even for these guys that got to go out and work for it, and if you miss hit the ball just a little bit, it's not going to go through. If that were you know, the old extra point, those kicks still make it in there. But to me, I really like what's happened. At the
end of the day. I think, you know, the league wants to incentivise the two point play, which I think is exciting also, and I think because of the extra point going down in percentage, that helps incentivize the two one play and it makes you know, discussion for you know, what to do, go for two, go for one, And
I think those are all positive for the game. The other rule changed this year, the kickoff a touchback comes out to the twenty five you has it changed the way you've approached the kickoff in any way, or have you seen it changed the way other coaches approach the kickoff. Yeah, I think it's changed the way the kickoffs has been played out. I think you're seeing teams can kick the
ball higher and shorter a little bit. But I don't think it's like everybody said before going into the season, it was going to be all the kicks were going to be high and short, and that obviously has not happened. I don't think that's the right formula. I think it's a combination of both. And I think there's a lot of variables that effect that. What's the score of the game, who's the other return team, who's your cover group, do
you have injuries in the course of the game. There's just there's a lot of things that go into it. But I think at the end of the day, it's also made it more exciting. I love the kickoff. Why wouldn't you kickoff high into the goal line every time if you believe in your coverage teams? Yeah, I think you know, I would just say that at some point, maybe you got a bunch of backup players. Maybe you have a big lead, and you don't want to play the play all the way out. You don't want to
give them a chance to return one. Even though you know the chances of that happening are rare, there's still an opportunity for it to happen, so you want to eliminate that altogether. So I would say there's just different scenarios that play into it. And let's finish this up with Darren Sprowls and a little chat about again a great season. I know you love talking about him. He is He's got to be one of the most remarkable players you've ever coached. Yeah, I love him to death.
And really my favorite part about Darren is just the way he practices and approaches a game. I mean, the guy plays with a chip on his shoulder. He does it every single week, and he's done it for a long, long period of time, and that's something that, in my opinion, is very rare. Now, Mike, when we looked at the schedule when it came out in the spring, and you'd say, wow, there's Green Bay, and there's Cincinnati and in Baltimore, these are all Super Bowl contending teams. Not necessarily the case. These teams all have some major
flaws and some big time injuries. Well, when the schedule comes out, yeah, you can pick games, but you never know what's going to happen as the season progresses. And I think this team is still in a good position. All of these teams on the schedule, they're still beatable. It's just a matter of them playing the best ball that they can play in the and it's about them and they have to make it about them and not about about the opponent and make sure that they're taking
care of business, doing all the little things well. And I thought Carson Wentz really said it well after the Lass in Seattle that even when the Eagles have been winning games, they've been committing so many mistakes, penalties, drop passes, miscues that set you back. And it is it's all about the Philadelphia Eagles playing their best, most disciplined, most focused football. And that's really the tail of the tape here.
With six games to go in this regular season, the one that is immediately in front of the Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, we get our first look at the Green Bay Packers and we begin at the quarterback position, where it's Carson Wentz and Aaron Rodgers. Now we spoke briefly about Aaron Rodgers earlier. We don't what a great quarterback he is. How do you think Mike Carson has played this season. I think he's played well, certainly not perfect.
He's a young quarterback and you're gonna see things done by young quarterbacks. He's getting more comfortable that when he gets out of the pocket, now getting rid of the football rather than taking those big losses every now and then, he's gonna miss a receiver, a wide open guy. And but all in all, Carson Wentz is a good quarterback, and Carson Wentz has a bright future in this league.
And he's going against a great quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, who despite all of the injuries that Green Bay has had, particularly along the offensive line, he still has twenty five touchdown passes and just seven interceptions. That's really amazing stuff. I mean, they are one dimensional team. As we look at the running backs now, James Stark's averaging two and a half yard to carry. They will get Kristen Michael active for this game after picking him up off of
waivers last week. But I think when you prepare for the Green Bay Packers, you prepare for Aaron Rodgers and then this group of wide receivers led by Jordian Nelson, mostly the wide receivers because they've had injuries in the backfield and bringing in christ and Michael and already him getting a chance to play. I've even seen Randall Cobb in the backfield. They've had some problems running the football and that's part of where they are where they are
right now. Yeah, Michael for the Eagles, Wendelle Smallwood really a nice game on Sunday. We don't know at this point the status for Monday Night of Ryan Matthews of Darren Sprowles. But it's clear that Smallwood will get an increased role not only on Monday Night, but it looks like down the stretch as long as he continues to have good ball security, you know. And I think he's starting to deserve more snaps when he's in there. He's productive.
I want to see him catching the ball a little more out of backfield, but he's explosive, like the way kid runs. And then we talked about wide receivers. Jordian Nelson, tremendous player coming back from the ACL injury. They also will go with Davante Adams, who's a big time player. I mean, they just keep finding these, and they keep finding these really good receivers. Why how well, when you've got a good quarterback. And that's why I would never
sleep on green based quarterback. If you if you got a good quarterback like that, he can make your wide receivers. He can make everyone else around him just a little bit better. Okay, tight end Jared Cook for Green Bay. For the Eagles, zach Ertz has really been productive in the last couple of weeks, actually about the last six weeks for the Eagles. I like what Ertz is doing.
It like what they're doing with him, moving him around the formation, and Mike, to me, him scoring in the red zone last week was a bit of a breakthrough. We just have been waiting for zach Ertz to be a weapon in the red zone and he's a big target. He runs great routes, he catches the ball well. You have to get him more involved in the office, and that's what they're doing, especially in the middle of the field. Creating matchups with zach Ertz and the linebacker or safety,
you usually are going to win that matchup. Now, if you want to find a reason why the Packers are four and six, losing the four straight games, look at these defensive numbers for Green Bay. They are atrocious twenty seven point six points per game averaging, giving up three hundred and fifty seven yards a game. The passing yards are off the charts. They've got some sacks, but Mike, this is a team that has just been devastated by injuries.
Their defensive secondary still is really a skeleton crew of what they hoped they would be, and they've been chorus at best these last four games. I think there's a good matchup for cars and for this receiving corps much of a line receiving corps. But I think because of all the injuries, because of the situation that green Bay has in their secondary, I think it should be a real good day for the wide receivers or good night for the wide receivers and the tight ends as well.
It will be a festive atmosphere. Of course at Lincoln Financial Field. We'll touch on that in just a bit. We've got another segment here to get to. That's a big one. We want to find out more about the green Bay Packers, So when we return, we go behind enemy lines and talk about Green Bay, a team that many thought, with Jordi Elson back, a Super Bowl contending team. Instead, the Packers fighting for their playoff lives. A loss on Monday Night would likely knock them out of the picture.

lovers America runs. I'm duncan David SPINNERO Mike Quick It's Eagles three sixty time now to go behind enemy lines. Chris McPherson along with Mike Spofford from Packers dot Com. The Eagles host the Packers on Monday Night Football. It's a game that both teams need badly now. Last Sunday Night, the Eagles were fans of the Green Bay Packers, hoping they might beat Washington. Unfortunately, the Packers lost forty two
to twenty four. So the previous upcoming matchup, we're bringing Mike Spofford, senior writer for Packers dot Com, and Mike. I understand that Aaron Rodgers had received a lot of criticism this season, but when you look back to Sunday Night's game against Washington, how much of the blame do assign him for the result? I think it's pretty hard to assign blame to Rogers. He put up a one fifteen passer rating through for three touchdowns. They didn't take
advantage of all the opportunities they had on offense. They had a second and three at the six yard line in the second quarter. You're really hoping to get a touchdown there instead of settling for a field goal. Probably the biggest thing that they were frustrated with offensively was
starting off so slowly. Three consecutive three and outs to start the game offensively, which actually I heard is the first time that's ever happened to Rogers in his career, to start a game like that, three consecutive possessions with no first down. So that's I think the biggest thing they're working on offensively is trying to start the game faster, because once Rodgers gets into a rhythm, this offense has shown,
even during this losing streak, that they can score some points. Mike, for years, pretty much over the last decade, this has been one of the best offenses in the entire league. Why do you think it struggled so much in twenty sixteen, Well, there's been a lot going on. Certainly the injuries haven't helped.
Mike McCarthy really tried to build this offense in training camp on, you know, a really strong running game with Eddie Lacey, and then in the first month of the season you lose Lacy for a long stretch of time. Here Packers still don't know if they're going to get him back before the end of the season. But then you also lost your number two running back in James Starks.
So Mike McCarthy got into rotating wide receivers into the backfield to try to take some carries or catch the flare out passes, trying to really get creative on offense to keep things going, and it's there's been a lot of fits and starts. Now there's also dealing with some injuries on the offensive line, which doesn't help the situation. But when you look at the overall production, the points
week to week for the most part have been there. Yes, they've left some points out there and they've had opportunities for more. But really where this team, in my opinion, is struggling is on the defensive side. The defense in this four game losing streak is just not helping the offense out and giving them a chance, particular early, you know, in the fourth quarter against Washington, giving them a chance to get the ball back with a shot to win the game. Mike, I want to get more into the
defense in a moment. But one of the bright spots for Green Bay this season has been the return of wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Leaves the league with nine touchdown receptions. Is he a different player in any way coming back from that ACL injury which costs him the twenty fifteen campaign. Yeah, I think we've I think we're seeing Jordy Nelson still really getting back to his old self in a lot
of ways. He's made some big plays on the season, but not he's not really the fully explosive old Jordy that we've seen, and from what we've heard from the coaching staff, that's sort of, you know, to be expected in the first year back after missing missing an entire year with the ACL. You mentioned the nine touchdown catches. Aaron Rodgers still looks to Jordy Nelson. He wants him to be his guy. Certainly in the red zone. He's he's making a lot of plays getting the ball in
the end zone. I don't think Jordy Nelson is still back to his old self. I think a guy coming off of the injury that he had in the position that he plays, you have to be patient, and throughout the season we've seen progress of Jordy getting back to the twenty fourteen Jordy Nelson that put up the astronomical numbers. And I still think Jordy Nelson can do that in this offense with Aaron Rodgers. Mike, let's delve into that defense. You recapped it so well on packers dot Com. Over
five hundred yards allowed to Washington forty two points. I think it's thirty points or more in five of the past six games. What's gone on with the defense? Is it the injuries? Is it the scheme is a little bit both. What's your explanation for it? Well, there's a couple of things going on. Certainly the injuries, as I mentioned on the offense. The injuries on the defense haven't helped.
The Packers have been missing their top two cornerbacks, Sam Shields and Damarius Randall for the bulk of the season. That's forced a lot of other younger corners who were expected to play, you know, Nickel and Dime roles and twenty maybe twenty five thirty snaps a game. Those guys are now playing fifty five sixty sixty five snaps. They're out there the entire ball game. The other thing is
that the defense is not taking the ball away. Dom Kaper's defenses over the years have predicated themselves on taking the football away, generating turnovers. Even in twenty eleven, when the Packers went fifteen and one in the regular season yardagewise, the defense was ranked near the bottom of the league, but they were first in the league and interceptions, and that was a big reason the Packers were able to go fifteen and one, along with obviously Aaron Rodgers winning
his first MVP awards. So when this defense is not taking the ball away and with the injuries they're dealing with, they're going to struggle. And in this current four game losing streak, excuse me, three out of the four games no turnovers on the defensive side, and the opposing quarterbacks have put up huge numbers, lots of fascinating storylines have foul for this Monday Night's game. You know, both of these guys very well trot going in deservedly, so we appreciate him. And Merl Reese in his fortieth year as the play by play man of the Eagles,
your sidekick. He's totally excited about the whole thing. What's it? What's it mean? You know? When I first heard the news, I was so excited for him, for Philadelphia, all of these fans that have followed Merrow through the years, and they don't even want to watch the Eagles play without listening to tomorrow. I just think it's great. It's a great honor, and you can't have a Hall of Fame the Eagles without Merrill Reese in my mind, being a
part of that Hall of fame. And I'm just so excited for Merrow, his family, and like I said, all of the people that listen tune in every week to hear that guy's voice. And it's really it's crazy. It's not just here in Philadelphia. Almost everywhere we go people are asking or talking about Merrill. They're talking about both of you. But I understand that humanity. Good job there. They want to hear you and merrill, but it just isn't. That's batman, I'm robbing. I like that. I like that.
That may have some traction here. All right, good stuff, Thank you for coming in. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Everything Every Thanksgiving to you and yours. We'll be back on Friday. Thanks for joining us here on Eagles three to sixty. Have yourselves a great Eagles Day
