It is bye week, blue time, and we're here to talk about it with you. We welcome you to Eagles three sixty Eagles insider Dave Spiderow along with the Hall of Famer Brian Westbrook and Eagles letting one go on Sunday night. Well, maybe maybe I'm being optimistic. I felt the Eagles, Brian, despite the drop passes and the challenges in the red zone and the defense that gave up a bunch of yards on the ground, I still felt in the second half this was a game that you

gotta go win. Well, you look at the first half. Year down by a close situation, one possession game. You have to have great play, but you can't make the mistakes that the Eagles made. They made too many mistakes, especially in the second half. Therefore you they don't win the game. It's incredible a win on Sunday night. We're sitting here, we're glowing, and we're feeling great about a four and three Eagles team. Now at three and four,

there are so many questions about this football team. As they take the rest of this week off and rest and then get ready for the Dallas Cowboys two Sundays from now. The Eagles at three and four with an offense that continues to have the same problems drop passes, inconsistency in the red zone, Sam Bradford still not all there in terms of a sixty minute game, slow starts. Brian will get into the offense here, but just a

quick thought on how you view this offense after seven games. Yeah, they're not the offense that we kind of signed up for. They can do so much better, but they can control these things. If they catch some of those balls, it's a different game. If they make some of those blocks, it's a different game. You know. You hate to say it comes down to execution, but suitfully it does. Do you ever go through a stage in your career where you drop three or four passes? Yeah, dropping passes begins

to become contagious for some guys. I think you have to get back on that jug machine. You have to focus on looking the ball all the way into the tub. But the most thing you have to mentally understand, I have to cast the ball, allow yourself to be natural, don't put so much pressure on yourself. A lot to talk about the rest of the way here. First, though, Chip Kelly meeting the media on this Monday and we've got your Eagles three sixty update. Alex Smith out on

the training field. Hi everyone, I'm Alex Smith here with your three sixty update. We are one day removed from the eagles twenty seven to sixteen loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers. Today we heard from Eagles head coach Chip Kelly here at the Novicare Complex and one of the biggest questions on the minds of fans today is why Ryan Matthews was limited last night after rushing for ninety seven yards on just six carries, and today Kelly explained that it was a groin injury that slowed

Matthews down. Ryan was hurt yesterday and so when I talked to Deuce about it, and we talk about all the time as hurts growing on a twenty two yard run before he broke the long run and really couldn't go. So Deuces monitor him on the sideline what he could do and what he couldn't do, so kind of pulled by. When he pulled by, Keikley, he said he felt it again. He didn't think he was gonna make it in the end zone. So and then Deuce monitor him after that.

So Deuces dealing with that in terms of whether he can't go in the game after that or can't go in the game after that. We used him a little bit, but you know, that's really the whole status of the whole thing. So I'll tell you guys exactly what's going on. The Eagles were also played last night by a number of costly drops, and today Kelly explained that after the game he told his team that he still believes this is a very good football team. They just have a

few things they need to clean up. Now. I mean, I've told our guys after the game, I think we're a good football team. We just we need to clean things up. You know. I think we had two procedural penalties that that hurt drives. You know. We had a first down that was called back because we had no legal procedure. We had to hold two uncharacteristic special teams

penalties that we normally don't get. One of them, we had the ball pinned on the fair catch on the twelve yard line, but now the drive gets out and starts in the twenty seven because we have a on sportsmanlike conduct penalty. Um. We had two encroachment penalties which we haven't had in our d line. I think they've been very disciplined. So, um, you know it's again it's it's uh, we're close. But when you're playing a really

good football team like Carolina, close isn't good enough. You gotta you gotta started, stop getting in your own way and and stop stopping yourselves. Some good news for the Eagles' is that starting left tackle Jason Peters, who went down with back spasms last night in Carolina, should be good to go when the team returns to training next Tuesday as they get set for the Dallas Cowboys. Um, you

know they'll see him when monitor them this week. I think some of those guys, we'll all stay here, the guys that need to get treatment, and I'll stay here with where Chris and get treatment. But they said that from what I understand, it should be good, good to go for next Tuesday. Saw for all your latest Eagles news throughout the bye week, be sure to keep it right here on Philadelphia Eagles dot com. Thanks so much, Alex.

We are going to talk about the Eagles defense that gave up more than two hundred rushing yards to a very good Carolina run game. But when we return to Eagles three sixty. Next up, we are going to talk about the offense, which continues to show some good things. To step forward, three steps back. That's been the theme through seven games for this Eagles offense, and Brian and

I will talk about it when we return. In just one moment, even ordinary moments become milestones when you've overcome cancer. At Jefferson's Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center, if we had a marker for every patient we treated who is now cancer free, markers would be everywhere evidence that our personalized approach to cancer treatment is producing some of the highest survival rates in the nation. And that's a milestone for everyone Jefferson, until every cancer is cured. I got tickets, Metro tickets.

You need a Metro tickets? Talk to me, please, I don't even know even tickets just doesn't touch it. This leather legit, I mean, how do we really know? It looks good? Right? No, I'm paying myself. I gotta make gramary. Does the baby need a Metro ticket? I'll give her one on me. These tickets they're not stealing your soul. You can look at them. Man. Nobody wants to buy tickets from a guy in the street. I don't understand. I've just arrived in that Natza and I can't wait

to start telling people. I'll switching to Geico, who could save the munches of dollars on carr and chores. But first my luggage there is excuse me, sir, I think you've got the wrong bag. Sorry, I'll look alike. You know, no worries, well cause here I can't save people money chatting at the baggage claim all day. Geico, fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Were welcome you back as he goes three sixty Dave Spidery,

Brian Westbrook. Let's talk about the Eagles offense Sunday night. Brian, we saw Sam Bradford. I thought maybe he played his best game, considering the pressure he was under. The comeback route, the Eagles dropping passes, the run game with Ryan Matthews very successful. You're take in a global sense of the offense. Well, I think I do agree with you. Sam Bradford. It was so many times in this football game where he had to step up in the pocket and he did

do that. He threw the ball strong. I think this was the first game that I saw some zip on his balls. Some of them weren't placed perfectly, but those are some of the balls that the receivers should have caught. And so now we're talking about the receivers. They had to do a better job of helping your quarterback. Sam Bradford hasn't been great all year long, but you have to be able to help him. And he was pretty good in this game. The receivers let him down just

a bit. But this run game was pretty good. One hundred and seventy seven total yards. Ryan Matthews looked good. To Marco Mary and Spots looked good. I think they need to run the ball a little bit more to help this offense continue to grow. All right, let's let's go back to the beginning of games again. A slow start for the Eagles. No touchdown again for the Eagles first half. That's four of seven games in which the

Eagles have not scored a first half touchdown. And so we've been asking this question since the start of the season. How do you get the offense going early on? Is it play calling? Do you have to take some risk? You go back to basics. I mean, it's all buzzwords. I don't know, Yeah, there's a lot of different things, a lot of different ways to look at it. But I think you have to take some risks early on

in the game. I think you have to get some different players involved to get the balls in their hands with your play calls early in the game. You have to understand if you want this offense to get going, you have to be able to run the ball early, and that may call for Ryan Matthews to get in a little bit earlier in the game. How do you

handle this running back situation there? DeMarco Murray eighteen carries, Ryan Matthews with six carries, it is clear that from an explosive run standpoint, Ryan Matthews has had more in seven games this season. Do the Eagles in some way go back to more Ryan Matthews? Do you try to go more fifty fifty? If you do that, would there be a division in the locker room? Would you have a sulking running back? I mean, how do you handle

Eagles of in the locker room here? I think at this point in the season, you're talking about winning games, and so if you're talking about winning games, I had to put my best players on the field the most time as possible, and so if that's getting closer to fifty fifty, that's what you have to do. And this game, Ryan Matthews had six carries to the Marca Murray's eighteen, and so the vision of labor was so far off. It doesn't seem fair, especially because Ryan Matthews was so productive.

I think the answer is you have to get closer to fifty percent, and then at that time, whoever has a hot hand, that's the guy should that should touch the ball. We'll sell Chip Kelly and do Stalely handle that moving forward. The drops by the receivers, by the tight ends and by the running backs have been an issue the entire season, and nobody in the locker room after the game on Sunday night had an answer for why the drops. What's going on? Is it mental? Is

it physical? Is it just a matter of being too intense? Is it a matter of not understanding where the ball's coming from or Sam's throw. I don't have an answer, Brian. We've been talking about it all year. I mean, you're you're the guy. You know when you get to this level. I know these guys can catch the ball. So I'm not I'm not thinking that's a physical problem. These guys can catch the ball. They spend a lot of times on the jug machine. They've caught thousands of passes throughout

the career. This is a mental thing dropping passes. It gets it becomes contagious from wide receivers to wide receiver. Now you start to get in your head. So when Jordan Matthews drops the ball in the first game or a second game, now the third and fourth game, he's thinking about dropping the football. Now when Josh Huff sees Jordan Matthews dropped the ball, he's starting to think about it. And so that's what happens with this football team. It

starts to get in your head. Hopefully this bike that comes at a pretty good time for this football team. They're able to figure things out. I ask Jordan Matthews after the game, and I said, Jordan, with this bye week, will you have an opportunity to sit back and relax and exhale and get off the jugs machine and not catch football And he goes, no, I'm gonna keep catching footballs. And you know that's the way Jordan Matthews deals with it.

He's always on the machine, he's always catching passes. Sometimes you wonder maybe it's better to just step away for a few days and clear your mind. Sometimes pressure can get to guys. And you have to remember Jordan Matthews in this second year, so he's still a relatively young guy. A lot of receivers in the NFL they take a step back their second year. You've seen that a little

bit with Odell Beckham up there in New York. I think Jordan Matthews just needs to get out of his own way a little bit, get out of his head. It'll be much better moving forward. Ryan. The offensive line taking a hit on Sunday night, Jason Peters goes down early in the game with back spasm. So once again the Eagles reshuffling, and they did an okay job in

the in spots. The run games still got some yardists big play by Ryan Matthews late in the game, though the past protection really broke down off the edges Jared Allen and then up the middle with short This offensive line, Brian, We've talked about at all season. They seem like they get some continuity going, and the offense takes off and wins against New Orleans and New York. And when somebody goes down. It all kind of has to be a reshuffle. Yeah, it's hard for any offensive line when you have a

new player coming in to be just as successful. I think Toba was doing a pretty good job at the guard position. Now you move them out to tackle, you're taking totally different steps. You're taking a different type of set opposite of the way that you normally are setting, and you're playing against one of the better defensive ends in the league over the last ten years in Jared Allen. Then the truth is is that Jared Allam was waiting

for this situation. The Eagles knew they had to pass, the Panthers knew they had to pass, and so it's one dimensional team and he got out there the quarterback. So that is the conversation with the Eagles offense, and it is disappointing. After seven games, we thought much more

of this Eagles offense. When we've returned to Eagles three sixty, we are going to talk about the defense, which really has carried this team through seven games on Sunday Night, not so much three takeaways and that's a good thing, but the run defense, for the first time this season, really took it on the chin. We'll talk about it in just one moment, experience the power of physical therapy and Novocare rehabilitation. We know the importance of an active lifestyle.

I'm Dave Spidero along with Brian Westbrook, and we are talking Eagles defense in the wake of the twenty six seventeen loss in Carolina on Sunday night. Brian,

three takeaways. Let's begin with the good. The Eagles intercepting Cam Newton really aggressive, and they have continued to take the football away and set up the offense. Yeah, that's one of the best the bright spots for this defense is they're able to take the ball away and that's almost every single week they're coming up with turnover. They're making plays, especially in the secondary, and I love the way that these guys are physical, but they're also taking

the ball away. That's going to help this team in the future. On the downside, Carolina scores on its first possession of the game, a touchdown, and then they come back at the start of the second half and take the opening kickoff and go down the field for another touchdown. Opponents have scored four of seven times with their opening possessions and that is not the way you want to

set the tone. So I ask you, while this defense is taking the football away and generally done a good job in the run game, your assessment of the group overall, what are they missing to be elite? Well, I think you know when you include some of the injuries, especially at the linebacker position, this defense has done a pretty decent job. They're taking the ball away. It's the key opportunity that they have the key spots in the game.

When you know a team wants they're run the football and you can't get a stop, that's a problem when the team is inside of the ten yard line. The Panthers were three for three inside the ten yard line. You can't allow that, especially allowing touchdowns where you're on getting field goals. Offensively, the Panthers was three for five inside the red zone, and so almost every time they were in the red zone, they're scoring touchdowns. That's the thing that the defense was doing earlier in the year

that was very good. Now they're not doing that. That's what they had to pick up. This front seven has played a lot of minutes. Maybe you get them off the field a little bit. This break would come at the right time for them as well. Yeah, that road greater approach from the Panthers really really worn physical runs. They really get to the second level. And not having Demiko Ryans there as well as Michael Kendricks played in the backfield against Carolina in the run game, I think

you missed Demiko Ryans. Yeah, when you have two linebackers Kendricks as well as Hicks, they're run stoppers, but they're smaller guys and so the offensive line is able to get up to them. They're able to get their hands on those linebackers, it's hard for them to get off. And then when look at the way that Jonathan Stewart runs the football, he's a physical runner, so the third and fourth quarter is critical for this defense, especially with

the physical guy that was the smash mouth. To play smash mouth football with you, you have to be able to stop that. They weren't able to do it last night. Right. We talked last week about the Carolina Panthers and the priorities in the past game Greg Olsen at tight end and then Cam running the football in the run game, and yet they really had success with Ted Gain on that slant going against Nolan Carolin. It makes me think that teams have really seen that that route is working

against Nolan. Yeah, especially when you have a team that wants to run the ball, the linebackers are going to be inside, something inside that's going to open up those slant, those quick slants routes in and tag again. Is one of the fastest players in the NFL, and so it's hard for a defender to not give up those deep routes to tag again and take away the quick slants. So you really have to take away one or the other, and the slants was the one thing that they gave away.

There was one player that really drove me crazy. In the second half, the Panthers get the football back the Eagles score, the Panthers get the football back. They face a first and twenty and I'm thinking, all right, this is a time for the defense to really assert itself. Instead, on the very first snap, Cam Newton goes to rookie Devin Funches for twenty yards first down. Carolina ultimately scores

on the drive and seizes the momentum. And for all the good things this defense has done this season, there are times Atlanta Washington on Sunday Night against Carolina when they just haven't been able to sustain momentum. Yeah, one thing that this defense has really hung their head on is not given up big plays. Yesterday they gave up seven plays of twenty yards or more, and so if you want to win, you have to give the turnovers. They did a good job that. If you want to win,

you have to stop the run. They didn't do very good of that, but yesterday they gave up the big plays too, And so you can't give up the big plays and not stop the run if you want to win a football game. That's what's going to hurt this defense in the long run. So add it all off a very disappointing loss in Carolina, Eagles three and four here at the bye week. We return in just one moment. Brian and I some more talk thoughts about the Eagles.

As we look ahead in this twenty fifteen regular season, a wave of game day excitement is rolling into Duncan. Taste the new Tailgator breakfast sandwich stacked with smoked sausage, fire roasted peppers and onions. America runs on Duncan. I sept to Philly. I sept the Philly. You'll step up Philly, the bus, the trolley, the train route one twenty four,

root twenty three. I supped the Philly, the seventeen to training, jenkintown to her house, his house, to bet Seu's house, city Hall, FCC, Delco Media, to work, to school, to the ball, broad Street, to the game. I sept to Philly. Anywhere the tournament is there. You're here. And before you take the team star midfielder from here to there along with his entourage, you have some things to do, like finding a place to stay. It's getting an oil chain,

mapping out the best route. Yes, are we there yet? No roadside assistance, not today, but always on call. So wherever your journey takes you, TRIPLEA helps you get there, so everyone's a winner. Start your journey at TRIPLEA dot Com this fall at Dunkin Donuts, get lost in Pumpkin, pick up your favorite pumpkin flavored beverages, and bake treats like the new Pumpkin Cheesecake Square. While they're still here,

America runs, I'm Dunkin. Dave Spiderow, Brian Westbrook Eiggles three sixty here on this bye week edition Monday, after the loss in Carolina. There used to be a time when Andy Reid was here and the bye week meant self scouting and come back and win. It was automatic win win, win, win win. What does Chip do in this bye week? I think you have to self scout. You have to

understand what you're doing good. You want to do more of that, and then also look at the things that you're not doing so well, and you want to do less of that. And so one of the things that the most important things that coaches can do in the bye week is understand what your tendencies are. If every time you line up in the eye formation, you're running the football, other teams on defense, I'm going to see that,

and so you have to start changing those tendencies. I think Chip Kelly needs to do that a little bit this week. Ryan. We know that this NFC East is wide open, the Eagles very much in the game here. We know that the Eagles come back with the Cowboys on the road, huge game, and then it's a Miami and Tampa Bay and Thanksgiving at Detroit. Combined records of these four teams eight wins, seventeen losses. The opportunity is there to get on a sustained run. So give me

some priorities here one, two, and three to get better. Well, you have to correct a lot of the mistakes that you've had, kest of football, consistently, play good defense consistently. I think when you look at everything that you've done good throughout the season, you have to do it consistently. You have to do it more often. Chip Kelly always

missing execution, that's going to be a big thing. Yeah, So a lot to digest for the Eagles as the players get away, relax their bodies and the much what was your body like generally during a Bible I mean, did it take you a few days to get everything back to normal? It takes a couple of days just to get everything back to but this isn't so important for some of these injured guys to come back healthy. Hopefully you can get Jason Peters back. But also now

I want Jordan Matthews to relax his mind. I want Sam Bradford to relax his mind, look at what happened in the first part of the season and say, okay, now I need to improve on that. If they're able to do that, I think they have the chance moving forward, and maybe Kiko Alonso comes back, and Demco Ryan's comes back, and Brandon Bearer comes back in that defense gets some depth back, and um, well, we hope for a lot

of good things after the buy. We return in one moment here on Eagles three sixty as we are talking Eagles Carolina and what the Eagles have next in the weekend. I got tickets Metro tickets. You need a Metro ticket? Talk to me, please. I don't even know these real tickets. If you know, just didn't touch it. This leather legit. I mean, how do we really know? It looks good? Right? No, I'm paying myself. I gotta make Grammy. Does the baby need a Metro ticket? I'll give her one on me.

These tickets they're not stealing your soul. You can look at them. May nobody wants to buy tickets from a guy on the street. I don't understand hid the pain, to hide of the pain, carves, to compete, electrolytes, to replenish everything you need to keep sweating. What makes a temple? Our meet Stella. She's wise, fierce, and she's not alone. Temple University where owls call home. We are the Cherry

and White. The city is our classroom, and we lead the rush hour, making our mark on every field around the room. The world without Temple, well that's like the sky without the North Star, Temple, never stopping love. The Eagles play the new instant game from the Pennsylvania Lottery. Players must be eighteen or older. Please play responsibly. It's Eagles three sixty. Dave Spidero the Hall of Famer forever.

Brian Westbrook. Brian, We're gonna talk as we go through the week here giving some chatter about the Eagles position by position, Your thought on the NFC East and kind of how it looks top to the bottom. Yeah, it hasn't been a very good division all season long, but at the bottom are definitely going to put the Redskins. They've had spotty quarterback play, inconsistent at best. The secondary is not very good, which has really hurt that team. So they're at the bottom. Number four. I think the

third team was the Cowboys. When you look at their team with all the injuries Romo Dez Bryant, they just can't find consistency at their running back position either. I think a number three, number four, number exci me number two. I'm gonna put the Eagles. They they're struggling with their consistency as well. They have to get better with this bye week coming ahead. They have to find a way to function effectively efficiently on offense as well as defense.

And then number one, you have to go the New York Giants. I think they have the best quarterback play. They find a way to take the ball away on defense, especially last week. When you look at this division, it's not very good, but it's still up in the air. Even with the Giants being the best team, they're still opportunities for every other team, especially the Eagles, to take their lead. Yeah, it could come down to January third at Medlife stating the Eagles and the Giants could they

play for the division title? At that time, we'll find out the Eagles have to win a lot of games between now and then tomorrow when Eagles three sixty. We've got you covered here as we take a look at our emiros. Those on the menu segments, Flynn mcdellen's studio and he I will have five takeaways from this Carolina Eagles game. And yes, fantasy football rolls on our Fantasy Spin with Alex Smith and Joe Dolan. So that is what to head. You enjoy bye week, You get some restles,

you get some relaxation. Been busier for you. Brian Westbrook, Dave Spiderow, we thank you for joining us here on Eagles three sixty. Have yourselves a great Eagles Day.
