Welcome to Eagles three sixty. On this Monday, Eagles insider Dave Spidero along with the Hall of Famer Brian Westbrook, talking about another tough loss for the Eagles twenty three to twenty on the road on Sunday at the House of Horrors, FedEx Field. What is going It's always impossible to win down there at teams with the kicking problems, the late game heroics by the Redskins, and again Brian, so many things to talk about. A tough, tough loss. Tough loss. This team has to find a way to

get it together just a bit. They have to execute much better than they have been. They have to find a way to get off the field on defense and all together. They now they need to come together because they're in a position one in three. The only way that they can win football games moving forward is that they all come together collectively and do a little bit more. It's we are the buzzword in the locker room and with the coach and with everyone with Brian here, it's

we have to execute better. And it becomes very difficult for fans to hear that. We don't know what that means. What does execute mean? Well? The problems are so many

for this team right now, at least on Sunday. The offense scoring no points in the first half, the defense not getting off the field on third downs, the Eagles unable to hold a lead in the fourth quarter offensively, three and out defensively, a fifteen play ninety yard drive, special teams missing a field goal, and to point after Brian.

When this kind of thing happens, as a player in the locker room, what goes through your mind, Well, that's tough because you're practicing all week long just to make sure that these types of things do not happen. But they happened in the game. And that's when your leaders need to step up. That's when the guys in the locker room they need to step up and say I need a little bit more from you. I need a

little bit more from you. We have to come together, we have to find the way and that's the thing that has to happen this week with this football team, and if it doesn't, things can spiral out of control very quickly. And we heard a little bit of that frustration that leadership in the locker room at FedEx Field on Sunday. Jason Kelsey Connor Barwin really taking responsibility for the loss and expressing quite a bit of their disappointment. So one quarter of the season is done. We've got

three quarters to go. The NFC East remains wide open thanks to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night. Chip Kelly meeting the media on this Monday, and he's got a lot of questions to answer. Let's get you all caught up on everything happening with this football team. Alex Smith are three sixty update. Hi everyone, I'm Alex Smith with your three sixty update. The Eagles were all from practice today as they try to recover from yesterday's disappointing

loss to the Washington Redskins. Today we heard from head coach Chip Kelly, who spoke once again about how execution is the key for this team and how a few players here or there could have changed the outcome in these first four games. The difference in this league right now is almost every game when you look up as a less than one score game, it's a one score game in terms of I think thirty one of the sixty two games so far have been decided by less by eight points or less. So it's a matter of

making one more play than your opponent. You know, we had a touchdown call back because we lined up wrong, you know, and that's a difference in a football game. We missed an extra point, mister, field goal. That's a difference in a football game. You know, we get a completion on third down, we allow a completion on third down. That's a difference in the football game. It's it's just one play here or there, and it's it's a different

story when we're sending here today's coach. Kelly also said that he doesn't believe that anyone on this team will be hanging their head after their one in three start, as he believes he has the right players in this locker room to rebound from the first four games. You just keep practicing and you keep working on it and the trust the guys you have, and I we know we have the right players here. We just it's a play here or play there. You know, we've the game

by two, and we lost the game by three. We lost another game by ten. We've lost three games by fifteen points. So you know, you you you hit two kicks and we're sitting here three and one and everybody's happy. I mean there's there's no difference. Is that you either make plays or don't make plays. And if you're not making plays, you could you have to continue to work

at them so you can make the plays. Next up for the Eagles is a home matchup with the New Orleans Saints, and while the Saints won just their first game the season last night, coach Kelly explained that they're one in three record doesn't exactly fit their talent level. New Orleans Saints are a good football team. You know how they lost their first three games. They lost one twenty seven, twenty two. They lost another one twenty six nineteen.

They've been close in two of their three losses. You know, they're kind of in the same boat as us, you know, And they had a close game last night. They won in overtime. You know that missed the extra mixed to gimme field goal right at the end of regulation and then came back and showed some great resolve and made a big play on an eight yard touchdown pass to win it in overtime. So it's it's a it's about being a competitor and coming back out there and you know,

we're still standing. We've taken some shots, but we're still standing. We gotta go out there and compete to keep it right Here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com throughout the week for all of the latest Eagles coverage, including press conferences from head coach Chip Kelly and coordinators Pat Shermer and Bill Davis. Thanks so much, Alex Brian. Quickly about the injuries. Next man up is the mantra, is there a big drop off in the NFL between starters and second and

in some cases you're third team players. Well, there's definitely a big drop off, because if there was a if there wasn't going to be a big drop off, then you would have a problem not paying your starter and allowing the second team guy just to play. But there always is a drop off. And so now the guys around the guy that the reserve guy that's going to play,

they have to pick up their play. Those offensive linement that are injured, we need all the other ones to pick up their play to just to help out to fill that void. Is going to be a tough process. All right, Well, so we've got a lot to get to today. We'll talk about the loss to Washington. Talk about a lead that the Eagles defense could not hold, but next up on Eagles three sixty. We're talking about an offense that for the first half on Sunday, when scoreless,

was punchless, then came back strong against Washington. Will the real Eagles offense please stand up? We've got more to get to on Eagles three sixty. Not ain't but a pain. To hot of the pain, to hot of the pain. The pain carves to complete electrolytes, to replenish everything you need to keep sweating. I got tickets, Metro tickets. You need a Metro ticket. Talk to me, please. I don't even know these real tickets. If you do, just don't touch it. Legit, this leather legit. I mean, how do

we really know it looks good? Right? No, I'm paying myself. I gotta make Does the baby need a Metro ticket? I'll give her one on meat. These tickets, they're not stealing your soul. You can look at them. Man, nobody wants to buy tickets from a guy on the street. I don't understand. Hi. My name is Jim Taylor. I've been with back Me for thirty four years. Our lengths to brand beef is the best around. We cut our meat fresh every day and we actually have customers come

from other stories just for our meat. Freshness is our number one priority. No one beats our fresh fish. We have the freshious apple, the Christie's lettuce fresh produces what we do. We do the best cake decorading in the area, hands down, one hundred and twenty three years strong. Come on in, you'll see the changes, you'll feel it, you'll

love it. Welcome back at the Eagles. Three sixty Eagles insider Dave Spidero with the Hall of Fame Brian Westbrook, who gets honored two weeks from today halftime against the Giants. All right, you should be well. We'll talk about that more next week after the Eagle beat the Saints. But let's talk about this offense, Brian, and the things you need to do to fix it. We saw it come alive in the second half. The ball goes down the field and big plays in the passing game, but overall

not enough. Yeah. I think Chip Kelly mentioned it earlier in the season. They need to be successful in the running game just to get this offense going, and as of yet, except with the Jets game, they haven't been very successful in the run game. And so when you're talking about playing a complete game first and second half. This run game needs to get going early in the game, and because of their woes in the offensive side of the ball running the ball, this offense can't get going.

I mean, I can ask you ten different ways. What do you do to fix it? How do you fix it? What do you change? We know that Jason Peters is banged up, he's got the quad injury. We know that Dennis Tobin or that Matt Tobin is playing left tackle, Dennis Kelly's playing right guard, perhaps for the Saints game and for weeks to come. So the question is what does Chip do to tweak the scheme? Do you spread the field and just throw the ball? Do you abandon

the running game? I guess you play to your strengths. So let's identify what the strengths are. You're definitely right. You have to play to your strength. And at this point, the passing game probably is going to be the strength, and it has to be the quick passing game. This offensive line has been getting pulled back into the backfield,

a lot of pressure on Sam Bradford. So those five and seven step drops, it is probably not gonna be a lot of those they're gonna have to throw the ball quickly, get the ball out of the quarterbacks, and so you're not getting him beat up in the process. I hope that they try to run the football, but I'm not sure how successful they can be, especially with so many reserves on the offensive line playing. Can you go, Can we forget about the run pass ratio here and

literally spread the field and throw you know, every down? Well, you know, you want to keep a defense off balance just a bit, and so you have to sprinkle some runs in there. But they just haven't been successful running the football. Now. You can say the downhill style all these other things, but if you want to win in this league, you have to win in the trenches. So

you need much better play from the offensive line. You're gonna read Brian on Sam Bradford three touchdown passes, four plays over thirty yards, thirty plus yards on Sunday, first time we really saw that over the top passing game. I thought he took some step I do. I think he took some steps in the right direction. You're talking about a quarterback. In order to throw the ball deep, you have to be confident enough and the guys in front of you to hold the ball long enough and

didn't throw the ball down the field. And last week against the Rescuings, you say against the rescues, he was able to do that. And I think when you see that smile in this space, you see a different demeanor from a quarterback. He's adding that confidence. That's the confidence that you need from a guy that hasn't played for two years. That's the confidence that will continue to grow in the quarterback and I think this week was a start of that. For saying, brand, now, why is this

offense starting so slowly? I mean you haven't answered, I mean, do you have an answered? I don't think no anyone has an answer. I think the chip Kelly has to trigger try to find that out. I think we have to start with the front guys. But it's starting slow because you don't have a running game and you're trying to figure out what's going to work in the past game and sometime that takes a little bit of time.

But you also have to remember, if you're only running fifty one plays per game, you're not going to be asking cecil as you want to be because you're not on the field long enough. Right, how much can you change an offense in the middle of the season. How much of a I mean, the playbook is here and so so you've got your validity of plays that you can run. How much can an offense change from one game to the next, I mean, can you completely revolutionize

the offense? Well, I think it's going to be tough to revolutionize the offense to change everything, but you can tweak things here and there, and so I think they're going to be doing an awful lot of tweaking here and there. But I think now you're gonna have to see what Sam Bradford's all about. You have to see what he's going to be able to do throwing the ball down the field. And I think if he could be successful, this team could be successful. And that will

also open up things for the run game. So it should be important for them to make sure that the passing game gets going as well. Take us into the mind of a running back to Marco Murray and Ryan Matthews certainly expected to have a dynamic part in this offense. What happens in their mind, Well, they're frustrated. And I understand that frustration because it was a point of time in my career where I wasn't touching the ball as

much as I felt as though I wanted to. And so it's tough because as a running back, when you're not touching the ball as much, now you want to score on every play. Now, you're not as patient a runner as should be, and so that sometimes leads to you not being as successful as a runner as you want to be. So for those guys, they have to stay patient. That's why it's great to have do Sailors there. He's been part of the three headed monster before, but

he was in the league for a long time. He won a championship in Pittsburgh, and so these guys need to go to deuce and figure out what can they do to make themselves better? How can they get this running game going. He's one of the guys that would know how to do it. What's the chicken or the eight question? Here? What's more important? The great running back of the great offensive line? Great offensive line. You always

start in the trenches. You can find a running back here and there, but if you have an offensive line that can get make holes, almost any running back can run through those. One of the great mysteries of this season, Titan Zach erst we thought he would be a breakout star. Has had an opportunity yesterday, made a great diving catch for a touchdown, that play called back nearly another one diving opportunity, but he hasn't been featured as much. Can you get him? How do you get Tighten more involved

in here? Well, first of all, you want to make sure that he's completely healthy, and let's just say that he is. I think that you have to make call plays for him. And that's one of the things you wonder about the offense. Are you calling players for your specific players, Are you calling place for Aguilar, are you calling place for Earth Just to get them involved. That's going to help them be better players, that's going to

help them be better blockers as well. The offense searching for consistency, explosiveness, the ability to stay on the field. Those are the goals this week as the Eagles prepare for the New Orleans Saints. On the other side, we're going to talk about a defense that was on the field for more than forty one minutes on Sunday, allowed too many third down conversions, and then the killer, a fifteen play ninety yard drive that put Washington in front

for good when we returned Eagles three sixty. We're talking Philly d with extra twenty checking from sant ANDERI you can get paid twenty dollars a month. Furniture is opening in May's Landing on October eighth. Don't miss the fun shop mybob dot com now. Dave Spiderrow Brian westbrookategos three sixty on Philadelphia Eagles dot com and we've got some defense to talk about. Generally, the theme, Brian is that the defense played well enough to win. Didn't happen on Sunday? How is the defense looking to you? You know, I thought they played hard. But for the defense, it's not all about playing hard. It's about playing smart

and getting off the field. Yesterday they weren't able to get off the field. And in particular third down. They allow Washington to convert fifty three percent of their third downs, and so half the time they're converting. That means they're staying on the field even longer. That's why Washington was able to one seventy nine offensive plays. This defense has

to do a better job on third down. They got him in some situations third and nineteen, third and eight, third and seven, they still allow them to get their first down. And I actually felt that the first drive Washington had third and nineteen, they run the draw play very similar to what happened in Atlanta, and when the Redskins converted that playoff on oh boy, this defense is in for another one of those days. And Washington drove down the field, kicked the field goal, got the football

back another field goal. Eagles fortunate early in the game to still be in the game, and then they really kind of played well until the last drive. So they're good against the run. We know that they're not getting off the field against the pass. Can you tighten up the scheme somehow? I think you can tighten up the scheme. One of the things that I think Billy Davis has done is that he's saying, Okay, we have to protect our cornerbacks just a little bit, especially with Byron Maxwell out,

so we don't want to blitz as much. And that's how the only way that they're getting pressure. And so when he blitz is too much like the last play when the reds game score, Now you're one on one on the outside and so it's kind of you're darned

if you do, you're darning if you don't. So at this point in time, he has to find these players, a group of guys outside cornerback safety that can check guys one on one and make sure that those guys aren't getting big place when he does bliss because for the front seven only one sack and forty six per tempts passing tempt that's not going to be good enough. They have to find a way to get pressure on the quarterback. They have to win the one on one battles.

That means Connor, Barwin, Brandon Graham, Vinny Carry, those guys have to step up just a bit. You had great success in your career, Brian, running those shallow crosses and the Eagles on Sunday giving up a lot of plays, a lot of yards to the Redskins on shallow crosses,

shut short stuff unders. Why does that play work so well? Well, it works because you're running all the defense off, you have your front line of guys, they're going after the quarterback, and everybody else is dropping deep because all the other receivers are going deep, and then you just have one guy on the shallow crosser and he kind of gets lost in the shuffle, and so that's why those plays

have been very successful. And the defense is thinking, Okay, even if they catch a short we'll be able to come up and rally and tackle the guy. Sometimes that work, sometime it doesn't. I think they in some situations they have to do a better job of tackling Jamison crowd or a big third down conversion leading to a field goal. Ryan Grant replacing DeShawn Jackson in the line of Pierre Garson with the game winning touchdown catch that was Sunday

this week, it's Drew Brees, smart quarterback. Can't fool them with any disguise and coverage. You've got a ball and play man up. That's a really tough assignment for Bill davis'd well, it's gonna be tough. And when you look at this last pass week, you're saying, well, they have a run game, and they have a pass game, one of the better run games with Alfred Morrison Matt Jones, and then you have a pass game that was effective

enough with Kirk Cousins. And so you're gonna see even more of a pass game from the Saints, which you're also going to see a running game with Ingram and C. J. Spiller out of the backfield too, and so they have a tough assignment this week. Yeah, So where did the Eagles go from here? We'll find out as we get through the rest of this week. Here the Eagles getting ready for the New Orleans Saints. We've got more to talk about here on Eagles three sixty after a tough

twenty three to twenty lost to Washington. Yet the Eagle's still in it, certainly in the NFC East that is wide, wide open, Ryan Westbrook, Dave Spider, We're gonna talk about it. On the other side, how's it progressing with the prisoner? He'll tell us everything he knows very shortly, sir, as you are, where will we nineteen? If your boss stops by, you act like you're working. If Eagles three sixty Here on Philadelphia Eagles dot com on this Monday at the Novicare Complex, Eagles insider Deep Spadero with the Hall of Famer Brian Westbrook and Eagles are through one quarter of the season onto quarter number two. We know it's a long year. We're all a little hyper herero disappointed, but you bounce back. You looked to

win on Sunday. Second quarter of the season. Brian, offense, you pick a player offense, I'll pick a player defense. You pick a player defense. I'll pick a player. Who do you want to step up? Who needs to step up on offense for the Eagles. I'm gonna go with Nelson Aguilar. He started really slow, but he came one in this game against the risk and then sometimes you just need a couple of plays here and there to build your confidence. And so now they know that Jordan

Matthews is a big time receiver. Now they need another option in that passing game, and I think Nelson Aguilar could be the guy. He has to grow. We need that rookie to grow fast. We need this rookie to step up and play good, and I think he can do it. And I'm gonna go with Jason Kelsey, Eagles Pro Bowl Center. It is a very difficult assignment for Kelsey right now. The pieces around him are moving, the

defenses are coming after the Eagles. I mean, let's face a defensive fronts are licking their chops working against this front. They are attacking the Eagles up front. So that's a lot for Kelsey to pross. He's a leader on this team. He's a great football player. He's being asked to do a lot for the offensive line, for the signal calling, calling, the protection, setting up everything I look for Cason Kelsey to raise his game a bit, and I think that

would really help this Eagles front. And in fact, I think it's essential that he does. If he doesn't, looking up front, it's it's really hard to bring it together. Yeah, defensively, I'm gonna go with Corner Barbin. I mean, he's a guy that can get it done. He's done it in the past. He's a guy that he's an emotional leader of that defense, a guy that is a jack of all trade in the run game in the past game. He needs to get that defense going. He needs to

make some place himself. And if he does that now, the defense we're talking about that can't get off the field on third now, now that we're making those stops on third now, is going to help eliminate the defens in the time of possession. I'm gonna go with his counterpart, Brandon Graham. I thought Brandon Graham played really hard, played

well on Sunday against Washington. The big strip of Jordan Reid turned the game around for the Eagles, gave a chance to have the football went down the field for the go ahead point. Brandon Graham, I look for him to step up can get some more schecked down. As we talk about that outside linebacker position, one of the glaring lacking parts of this defense is depth. There. Marcus Smith inactive again, Eagles not getting that three man rotation that they had last year. Yeah, I think coach coach

Kelly wants to see some play. We want to see something in practice from Marcus Smith that says you deserve some playing time. And so for him, if I'm a young guy like he is, he needs to step up on the special team side of the ball. He needs to step up on the defensive side of the ball. If he does that, then he'll get a chance. But he's never going to get a look unless he steps up, especially in the special team side, just because he's not going to be a starter right now, I'm not sure

that he's doing that in practice. And the opportunity is golden for Marcus Smith and for all of these young players. Eagles need players to make place all right, quick question for you, who is the best team in the NFC East right now? I think right now the Giants. They have they're basically the only team that has a true franchise style type of quarterback. They finally are getting some production from Rashad Jennings and their defense is coming up long.

But anytime that you have a quarterback in a decent officeive line, I think you're you're pretty well off. Unfortunately, the NFCAS is just not very good. So it's not hard. It's not very easy to pick a team. But if I had to go with somebody, I would go with the Giant. A lot of football left, though, Let's get the Eagles back in the conversation. When we return to Eagles three sixty, We've got more to talk about Eagles and the Redskins and a peek ahead at the Saints

at the quartermark of this twenty fifteen regular season. With extra twenty checking from sant ANDERI, you can get paid twenty dollars a month. overtime beat the Dallas Cowboys. Of this Eagles three sixty Dave Spidery, O'Brien Westbrook, and that was at least a little bit of consolation on Sunday night. Now the Saints come to town an outdoor game. Why the difference in just historically the Eagles and the Saints when you play them down there so tough. When you get them out of the Dome, they're not the same team. Well, Dome teams normally just aren't very good when they get outside of the Dome. You have to do with the elements.

You don't have that home field crowd, I mean, because it gets loud down there in the Superdome, and so that's why they're not as good. You're talking about a defense that can get off the ball on the snap of the ball a little bit better at home. That's why so important to try to get those wins when they're outside of that Dome. Offensively for the Eagles in that game, what would you like to see the approach beat early on just to kind of get this thing kicks started. I want to I want to see my

offensive line set their pads early. I want to set the tone with our run game. They shouldn't be expecting because we haven't been very good with the run game, so I want to set the tone. I want to get to Marco Murray going just a bit. You're talking about the league's leading rusher last year. I want to get him lathered up. I want to get him twenty to twenty five carries in this game. This is a place to start it, all right, sounds good to me,

sounds good to us, sounds good to everybody. Tomorrow, we've got you set up here on Philadelphia Eagles dot Com. It's our amerosos on the menu. Look ahead, we've got our first look at the New Orleans Saints. Glenn mcnow in studio with me and then Alex Smith and Joe Dolan the Fantasy spinning a little later on. I'm writing

about the Eagles defense. We've talked about it, Brian. Third down conversions a big problem, and you'll be surprised maybe at some penalty numbers for the Eagles on ded they don't look pretty at this point, and that's something Bill Davis wants to clean up that. In a whole week of coverage leading into Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. For the Hall of Famer Brian Westbrook, I'm Dave Spidero with thank you for joining us and Eagles sixty have yourselves a great Eagles Day.
