Speaker 1

He's arrived direct from Portugal.

Speaker 2

On some sort of human trafficking, drug smuggling expedition, has come back to motherland.

Speaker 1

Did you visit your many children?

Speaker 3

I don't have any in Portugal that I'm aware of.

Speaker 1

Well, we're using that language now that we're back in Australia.

Speaker 3

I did have lots of Portuguese tarts though, Oh what about the food? They were delicious?

Speaker 1

Yeah, there they were, right. So you went to a third world country to see a masda. That is the most ridiculous. Can you just fess up that your money comes from bags of powder? Look?

Speaker 4

Okay, So I've got a very mention, very briefly mentioned the car so mas to see sixty it's coming to Australia. It's like a bigger version of the six five. We drove, the plug in hybrid version. Now, the reason they chose Portugal.

Speaker 3

This is just I'm getting.

Speaker 1

Boring. This is getting boring and unnecessary.

Speaker 4

So the reason they chose Portugal, because you asked, is because it's cheap. It's like the Bali of Europe. So you can go there to a nice hotel. The weather's generally good and the roads are generally good.

Speaker 3

So that is why and the car is not too.

Speaker 1

Bad, so are we allowed to say that?

Speaker 4

Yes, well, you can go to our YouTube channel or the Car Expert website to have a look at the review of the six sixty. But yeah, plug in hybrids driving range of about sixty k's punchy little thing coming to Also, they're bringing a diesel six cylinder and a petrol six cylinder to Australia.

Speaker 3

It's three will drip so I'm excited for tho. So yeah, it'll be here later this year.

Speaker 1

So now, two things I want to talk to about. I mean, you don't do yourself any favors as an engineer. Jeez, the marble being in the efidy house as an engineer, this is amazing, Like that is cool to tell your EV council, But dude, what are you doing?

Speaker 4

I think the difference is I have smart people following me, so they tend to find an interesting One.

Speaker 1

Other thing, I will say, you really did travel like an engineer abroad?

Speaker 3

Is wrong with my style. There's some trendy shorts. Apolo, I look smart.

Speaker 1

She said. The contouring of that shadow doesn't do you any favors.

Speaker 3

The sun was at one pm.

Speaker 1

I want to say if you need to join TikTok because you have a fantastic rack. Good to have you back.

Speaker 4

Yes, anyway, it's nice to be in a slightly different studio.

Speaker 3

We're in Sydney today and this is your studio.

Speaker 1

Yeah, when are they finishing it? It's basically a public toilet. It's always it's always fire. Now that is on the roof. You're referring to this weird brown, mysterious patch. It strangely looks like the polo shirt. You're more Portugal, but that, my friend, would be possum urine.

Speaker 3

Oh that old chan. I'm going to take a picture of that.

Speaker 4

We'll put it on the Drive show social media because that is disturbing.

Speaker 1

Yeah, thank you for shooting on my studio. Something I really I saw that was really cool. That wasn't on your Instagram. Something really cool is this kind of Brabus rally concept which is sort of based on the g Wagon, the am G sixty three, and for one point three million dollars you can get a car, you can get a rollcage that goes from zero to one hundred and three point four seconds on a sand dune.

Speaker 4

Isn't it ridiculous? So the Brabus crawler. It has no windscreens. You have to wear goggles while you're driving it on your sand dunes. It has no windows, no doors, but it does have a big old four point five litter twin turbov eight. It makes six hundred and sixty two kilowatts of power and twelve.

Speaker 3

Hundred and fifty meters of talk.

Speaker 4

It's it's absolutely insane, and like you said, it's like one point three million dollars so, and it's like made entirely out of carbon as well.

Speaker 1

Do you think this car has baby Iso fixed points? Yeah?

Speaker 3

Because it should be shine now. Yeah, I can see a top ten. Good.

Speaker 1

Good. There is back seats. There is room for two in the back.

Speaker 4

So you can actually have friends in there. The thing that is completely unrealistic about this, unfortunately, is that when you do go sand driving, you are going to have sand in every single hole that ever existed in this car.

Speaker 3

And I remember once we were in.

Speaker 4

Dubai for the launch of a Maserati Levante suv and they took a sand dune driving even though the cars were closed the entire time. The gearstick was one of those ones that it's like your stinger that goes back to the original position. Yeah, and it would crunch because sand got inside it, even though the doors were never opened in the car sheese, I can imagine this that actually has no doors or windows, a plus a spoiler on the back and these like huge driving lights as well.

So your head to the Car Expert website and just look for Brabbas Crawler to see a picture of this.

Speaker 3

It is absolutely stupid.

Speaker 1

I really love the fact that the images they've used, which is clearly filmed in Dubai or something. Literally there's a camel in front of that guy's line of sight.

Speaker 3

See, this is the thing.

Speaker 4

This car is just a UAE special like this would be. Yeah, they will eat this alive in the in the UAE. I think it will. Just it will be hilarious to see one of these in real life.

Speaker 1

I have a friend of mine over there and he was no tell us about that time. Let's talk about her off air. She's on the show next way. So yeah, I've got a friend of her over there and he was m seeing an event where they were selling off number plates. Yes right, and one of them was like a six Yeah right. I don't I don't think that means much to us, And I think it basically was developed over there to be like a specialty number plate, and it went up for something like thirty million dollars.

There's some dude just sitting sitting at a table in you know, the full sort of head to toe kind of out fit, the scarf, what do you call it?

Speaker 3

Careful?

Speaker 1

What do they call it? I'm not big, a big honest, some big serious. He was in the full shit of yeah it was a sheet. He's going to get up and simmy shake the shimmy, shimmy, shimmy shake shack, wearing sunglasses. I am a respectful personation anyway. But number plates are big.

Speaker 4

I remember going to an auction here that I think Shannon's was running on behalf of the Victorian government, and it was all Asian kids, like they were eighteen to twenty two year olds buying number plates, and one dude

bought it was in like twenty nineteen or something. He bought the number plate twenty nineteen on a heritage plate and got into a bidding war with this kid who looked like he was sixteen, and it went up like half a million dollars and he bought it because he had a pram with him and it was obviously for the kid that was born that year. He wanted them

to have a registration plate. So obviously the other kid's like, well, I'm just going to start a bidding war with you because I can see how desperate you are.

Speaker 3

This is the only number plates that's going to work for you.

Speaker 1

That's amazing, just crazy and went for what half a mil?

Speaker 3

Yeah?

Speaker 1

Did he win?

Speaker 3

The guy with the prim did yet?

Speaker 1

Yeah, just to celebrate, he did a bit of a dance dance revolution and logged onto Pokemon Go. So yeah, that is a crazy car. I really like it though. I think it's a one point three mil. Talk about the cup and faber, Wow, that's insane. What else are we looking at? Oh my god? The jeep jeep. Do you know when you just have that friend that you want them to succeed so badly you've grown up with them, but they're just a constant cup. I should rephrase that

a total cup. You want them to succeed, You just want them to be better, You just want them to do better.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 4

So they've launched the Grand Cherokee in Australia with one petrol V six engine and as a result of that, it toes barely anything.

Speaker 1

Yeah, you won't be putting a caravan.

Speaker 4

So two point two tons in one spec and up to two point eight tons, I mean, that's planet of these guys on even like the entry level ute based SUVs all to at least three tons, up to three and a half. Now, even if this did have a towing capacity of three and a half tons, a petrol V six isn't going to move its hefty girth.

Speaker 3

Plus a plus a trailer. Yeah, so they don't do it diesel at all.

Speaker 4

So globally they do a V eight petrel in the States, which we don't get here they are working on a turbov six petrel as well, but I mean, I just don't get how they do that. And one of these I'm looking that price one of them was like one hundred and twenty thousand dollars.

Speaker 3

I mean, hello, have they read the room?

Speaker 4

And the best bit was they they were quoted as saying that, So this was in reference to diesel customers. They have to reconsider what they need. It's like, how about you just build what they need, which is a diesel to toe stuff like the old one did.

Speaker 1

Perhaps it's a car that they no longer really care about people towing stuff with that. That could be what they want for it.

Speaker 4

Yeah, but they may not care, but the customers do because a lot of people bought the old ones that had a three and a half time towing capacity, It had air suspension, it would go off road, it was versatile. Yeah, now you can't toe with it, and the petrol engine is much slower and it just doesn't suit a vehicle this size.

Speaker 3

So it is very troubling. I just don't understand where they're going with this.

Speaker 1

Perhaps they just want to appeal to the soccer mom.

Speaker 3

Well maybe Yeah, potentially people who.

Speaker 4

Just don't care and don't know what they're buying. Yeah, that's just going to narrow that.

Speaker 1

The development of a bigger engine or keeping an engine going like that, that'd be expensive.

Speaker 3

Right, I think so.

Speaker 1

I mean I'm not encountered, but you're an engineer.

Speaker 3

I dress like one.

Speaker 1

All right. Now, there's a mystery car you want to show me.

Speaker 3

Now, I just for a bit of context before you click on this link.

Speaker 1

William will I am from the Black Eyed Peaks.

Speaker 4

Yes, that guy, he somehow convinced Mercedes Beans to produce a bespoke vehicle just for him. Now, we're going to make fun of the car, but we're not going to make fun of the reason the car exists, which is to support his charity.

Speaker 3

Which is fine. But click on the link for me.

Speaker 1

Okay, So we're going to see this.

Speaker 3

Wow, that's the wow.

Speaker 4

It's got like a little teddy Bear instead of a Mercedes logo, it's got like the front of a G wagon and the rear of a CLS or.

Speaker 3

GT four door. I just I don't know what to say.

Speaker 1

Oh, I love it.

Speaker 3

Oh of course you do. You would love the shit out of this that this is the demographic.

Speaker 1

I love it.

Speaker 3

Mind people, I love it.

Speaker 1

I just roll up to your house and do something and Knoxious out the front where they.

Speaker 3

Like sing his songs. God, it is a shocker.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that is. That is something pretty special. They've used the Mercedes logo and blended it into a Teddy Bear's face to kind of make it look like the mouth and that just.

Speaker 3

And they've called it the will I a MG. So it's a play on words.

Speaker 1

There is there any interior shots? Oh wow, this sort of jeez. It's pretty plain on the inside, isn't It's very stuff.

Speaker 4

They've just kept it very but yeah, it's got the suicide doors.

Speaker 1

Which is irony is I think you're going to need more than a door.

Speaker 4

God, it is shocking. I don't mind the wheels, but the rest is absolutely heinous.

Speaker 1

What are you kind of a side vents?

Speaker 3

Just no, everything else is no.

Speaker 1

It's kind of got the front of a g wagon almost. Yeah, so yes, oh god, those doors.

Speaker 4

It is shocking. So anyway, yeah, I have a look at our social media to see what this looks like.

Speaker 3

It is. It is genuinely tragic. It is genuinely tragic.

Speaker 1

That is the most tragic thing to happen to the black eyed peace sense. Fergie Paul doesn't know who that is. You didn't even know who, bloody, who are you talking about the other day? And you didn't know like Johnny Cash or someone?

Speaker 3

Know who was that person that got banned from that Young?

Speaker 1

You've never heard of Neil Young, You've never heard of the Harvest album.

Speaker 3

The Harvest album sounds like something you'll find it.

Speaker 1

Wooly's welcome to Welcome to the Queen Victoria about here's the Harvest section the bmw IX three. I spend a little bit of time with this. Should we talk about it.

Speaker 5

Yeah, let's the snazzy and stylist BMW I X three is priced at one hundred and fourteen nine hundred dollars, which includes the msport pack. I think it looks pretty great. What did the boys think?

Speaker 3

You don't sound impressed. I'm concerned.

Speaker 1

Let's start this by saying this is correct me if I'm wrong. The X three is one of the best selling BMW's out there. Right, so they're pretty much taken an X three. They've taken the engine and put in an electric motor and put some nice little blue bits and pieces. Yeah, and that's their electric car.

Speaker 4

Yes, this is what we in the industry call a compliance EV. Right, It's an EV that exists because they had to do it, not because they wanted to do it.

Speaker 3

But I do have hope for them because if you have.

Speaker 4

A look at the IX that was ground up effectively an EV. Yeah, so they went to a lot of effort there. Yes, this I think is a temporary solution. I thought, I'm hoping that the next one is more everything. But also, this doesn't look like an EX which I also like because it means you can have a vehicle.

Speaker 3

That looks like an X three yes, that is electric.

Speaker 4

You can also get it without all the blue shit on it, so you can just have a normal looking X three.

Speaker 1

Can I tell you my first impressions? So jumping into this car right literally picked it up from BMW, and it had been a while since I've jumped in a Beama, and there is like, whether you want to admit it or not, this quirks to a Beama. Yep, right, things like reverse park, the button on that whatever, It's just a bit. So I was a bit kind of right right finding my feet. There was a bunch of BMW execs out the front there to meet me. There was about ten people and it was awkward as all. Hell,

oh god, Yeah, they put on a bit there. I'll tell you one thing. They've got bloody good customer service at BMW. Yes, really good.

Speaker 3

Did you go to that new dealership they've built that is insane?

Speaker 1

Yes, it is huge, it's really good, and I think Mercedes aren't technically part of it, but they're there. Yep, mining's obviously there. It's a stunning showroom. It's really something special, to the point where when I went to return the car, I got kicked out of the showroom. Why because I was just like lurking. I was walking around looking at all the pretty things, and I saw up above there's a separate level, like with all these what looks like cars on display, and I'm like, I want to go

check out that. And this lovely lady who I thought was going to ask me out, unfortunately asked me to leave.

Speaker 3

Ask you out vision in bed? Does she have a guide dog? Get out?

Speaker 1

Sick of you're shit? I picked you up from the airport. I see a bloody you.

Speaker 3

The driver.

Speaker 1

Two stars for you. By the way, It's interesting jumping in a car like this because it feels like I just didn't belong. It felt like I was hanging out with corporate suit types. Really boring, and it's very German. When you hop in like it's very like, this is how you're drive, sit up straight, you'll this is how firm the car is. Deal with it like, it's very it's very straight. The seating position, everything's just a bit kind of stern and this is what you're doing. It's

TechEd out really well. The parking in this is probably some of the best I've seen.

Speaker 4

Yeah, so they actually have a cool feature. I don't think anyone else does. This. It's called the Reverse Assistant, and what it does is it remembers the last fifty meters of driving when you park.

Speaker 3

So if you go down like a narrow one way.

Speaker 4

Street and you're like, fuck, I'm not going to make it out of here, I need a reverse, you hit the reverse Assistant and it will guide you with precision accuracy fifty meters back the exact same path that you went. So didn't you hit anything on your way in, You're not going to hit it on the way out. So

it's actually a pretty cool Features seven. I think they took a bit of a backward step in terms of OYE drive than you OS eight is much better, But yeah, I think that I think they've done a really good job with it. And from an interior and tech point of view, I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. I think it felt very much like a compliance ev.

Speaker 3

It's real will drive.

Speaker 4

It's sort of not overly punchy, and you know, kind of can't because it's real will drive.

Speaker 1

But yeah, the design is conservative, to say it the least. Yes, there's nothing really offensive or abrasive about it. The blue kind of highlights. They're not for everybody. Clearly. I quite like it. I think it's cool, stands out. It's got the weird kind of plastic what do you call them panels, yes, on the front, which I mean if you weren't getting this car in black and they were still black panels, that would look odd.

Speaker 3

I don't know what color they are. Are they body colored?

Speaker 1

They look black and the car I had was black. And yeah, I like the wheels on it. I'll tell you what. Those big twenty years wheels are kind of arrow design on them. I think is to that stays black.

Speaker 4

I'm just having a look on the interweb now, and regardless of which color you choose, it stays black.

Speaker 1

Wow, yeah it's going to Okay, it looks like it's wearing like wayfarers or something. But yeah, the wheels are really cool. I think it's a fine car. Yes, it's smooth, it's well balanced, it's got presence. It's the whole thing like is very I don't know, cohesive. I guess it's kind of everything kind of feels well put together.

Speaker 4

So here's the issue I have. Okay, it's one hundred and fourteen nine hundred for an extra four thousand dollars, have the m forty I, which has the turbo six cylinder petrol enginet and is smooth and sporty and fun. So you'd have to really want to be an ev fanatic to get this over the M forty I, because I think that is a much more engaging and interesting car. If you're gonna get a BMW, you want it to be sporty. This isn't sporty.

Speaker 1

It's a good drive, but there's nothing exciting about it. It's just a conservative car.

Speaker 3

Yep.

Speaker 1

It's a guy in a business suit with a little bit of dribble on his pants. I just I love it. There's probably some old guy listening to this show going bloody listen to this because I thought it was an automobile. It's a deep recording, and he just compared it to some bloke with a bit of dribble on his Trodish trousers. I mean, this is a fencehip.

Speaker 3

I'm surprised that anyone listens to this.

Speaker 2

In my day, if I hundred opinion, I'd go on the stepshift town Hall and you yelled through a newspaper.

Speaker 3

I don't know, so suf fast to say you wouldn't buy one.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I mean one fifteen before on road? What are we looking on road? It'd have to be a round about one hundred and twenty three thousand on road.

Speaker 4

Here's the biggest issue they're going to have. The biggest issue they're going to have is when Tesla launches the Model Why because for one hundred and fifteen in Model Y, that's going to get you an all wheel drive performance version which will be infinitely quicker than this, probably have more range, we'll have better charging, better tech.

Speaker 1

The charging speed on this was pretty slow too.

Speaker 3

Yeah.

Speaker 4

I think Tesla is really going to upset a lot of these German manufacturers when that car goes on sale here, and it will actually be pretty cheap in Australia because in Portugal the Model Why Performance, which I saw stacks of over there, is like hundred and twenty grand.

Speaker 3

It was really expensive.

Speaker 4

So yeah, I think that when the Model Wire arrives in Australia it's really going to shake up a lot of this segment and really force them to reconsider their price points.

Speaker 1

By list or miss. I think if you're going to list it, you're going to have to really you'd.

Speaker 3

Have to love BMW. Yeah, you're going to have to.

Speaker 1

Be brand loyal, because I think that's the only way you'd want to get this across the line.

Speaker 4

Yep, yeah, I think so as well. I'm sort of in two minds about it. It was okay, but it just really wasn't incredible.

Speaker 1

So do we have any any questions from the house any.

Speaker 3

I thought i'd mentioned something.

Speaker 1

Oh, here we go. I feel like you've been sitting on this because getting prepared for a zinger. Guys, he's getting prepared, little chaft, he's got the smirk going on.

Speaker 4

I'm into crypto and NFTs and she's yeah, I know. He was one of the first companies to do an NFT collection, and I've been following it closely and I minted one of them.

Speaker 1

It has been Does that mean you bought one? What does that mean? I minted this? I minted an NF two.

Speaker 3

I did buy it. It has been a shit show.

Speaker 4

So normally what happens with these projects is they will create ten thousand of these NFTs and each of them will be unique, and some will be rareer than others. And Hyunda was the first car company to come along and go, hey, we're going to do this, here's our collection. What happens then is you log into a discord server and that's where you talk with the team and all

that sort of stuff. Now, being a Korean company, they just didn't account for speaking in English with any great accuracy, so all of the communication made no sense at all. They then asked you to do all these stupid things to get whitelisted for the projects so you could be invited to buy something. And it went live today today, the day being we record this, and of the ten thousand items they listed and they had whitelisted like twenty.

Speaker 3

Five thousand people, only two thousand sold. My point is, if car companies want to get into the metaverse, they need to do better.

Speaker 1

Than y they just did with NFTs hasn't gone down in terms of sales, like by ninety percent. I saw some stat like the NSC market is just crashed now.

Speaker 4

The whole crypto market is down at the moment, and that causes flow on effects. But it's it's fine. It's it's not that big of a deal.

Speaker 1

That's what he's telling his wife. It's fine, life savings are fine. I'm just waiting for Elon to tweet it's good and we're good. We're good. We're good. I gotta go, Honey, who do you find this music?

Speaker 4

Truly from Skager from your iTunes collections? Now, speaking of feedback, we get some email. I'm so out of touch at the moment. Let me look at our at the moment rating. Okay, we've got a new one here from FPV Boss three point fifteen obviously likes a car, a decent car, absolute blast of entertainment, awesome show. I think everyone listening to this will end up buying a Tesla. Well here's a good point, because I think you're thinking about it.

Speaker 1

Yeah. I mean at first I thought it was just we were doing this because you're getting kickbacks from them, and fortunately not, you're really not, which is kind of annoying. But here's the thing. I think the state, I think we're moving to electric quicker than anyone imagined. Yes, and including myself. I think though at this point in time, and I know it's kind of a popular thing to say, like, oh, I don't think this country is really rude for electric

cause because we're such a good country. But I just think these charge fox people are just just throwing down buckets of shit with this, with their charging stations. There's just you just look at them and they looked cooked.

Speaker 4

Yeah, and the reliability of them is woeful at the moment, best on what I've seen. So yeah, I think if that continues, we're going to have a big issue. And I'm hoping car companies realize that all the free charging they're giving away with their cars is going to be useless if you rock up and you can't charge.

Speaker 3

And it's literally like getting a fuel.

Speaker 4

Card with your new car and then you rock up to the petrol station and the pump doesn't work.

Speaker 3

It's like, oh, well, bad luck, You'll just have to just go do something else, like some fuel.

Speaker 1

Also, like the weight on a brand new car is at least twelve months, and you can generally get in a tesla between Sitwell they're quoting when you buy one off the website, they're quoting six to nine months.

Speaker 4

Yeah, but they come in in big batches. So I think that that will start slowing down as it neeble, start getting better eventually before it gets worse.

Speaker 3

So yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4

Other manufacturers just need to switch on and get on with it, and they need to fix the charging thing as well.

Speaker 1

It's a shame because there's some brilliant electric cars out there. I mean, I raved about that Eve six I had the other week. I still loved it. I loved it more than the BMW put it that way. But it's kind of like Apple versus Android in a sense because what you're charging with with what cables are around as well, you know what I mean. So it's just it's a shame.

But I think the only thing that's that's making me staring Tesla's direction a little more is the fact that the supercharger network just seems to be they.

Speaker 4

Don't have any issue. And this is the thing that I find so confusing. A supercharger, if you take the covers off, is basically a device that turns electricity into whatever format it needs to go into that then goes down a cord.

Speaker 1

They're all the same.

Speaker 4

They're all the same, So how is it the charge Fox network is so bad and they just do the same thing yet they can't figure it out yet. Tesla it just works all the time. I haven't come across a faulty Tesla charger yet, so yeah, it is.

Speaker 1

I think it's a maintenance for one. The weird thing is charge Fox are getting a shitload of cash from the government. If they're not employing technicians and service people for these charges, then something needs to be said.

Speaker 4

Yeah, well, anyway, thank you for responding to that one comment with that ten minute rant.

Speaker 1

But yes, we're go out a little bit.

Speaker 3

Yeah, we would really appreciate.

Speaker 4

If you could leave a comment, a comment or a rating for us on whichever platform you're listening to this at the moment, or send us an email to what thing contact at the driveshow dot com today you we both get those, so we'll be able.

Speaker 3

To see it and we will potentially respond.

Speaker 1

And now Paul will leave us with a Portuguese song, Please take away. Oh this is a good one. This is one of your favorites. Roughly translated, I will have a large chips with lemon and herb chicken from a porto.

Speaker 3

See everyone,
