Episode description

When it comes to pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, it's normal to just want to go back to the way things were because it's easier. That’s why our natural reaction is often to choose convenience over challenging ourselves.

That feeling of doubt and fear continues to follow you when you try to step out of the familiar and comfortable. But you have to. It’s the natural path to growth.

This episode highlights five steps to overcome self-doubt to broaden your horizon and kicking self-doubt and procrastination to the curb:

  1. Be clear on your why
  2. Spend time with like-minded individuals who push you to do better
  3. Embrace the journey (and the process)
  4. Assess your progress and how far you've come often
  5. Implement systems

Hello, welcome to the dreamers podcast. I'm your host Annie's wealth, and I'm excited that you decided to tune in. I am so excited To talk to you about something that has been on my mind ever since I had a conversation recently with, two friends of mine about giving up, whether it's giving up on investing, giving up on starting a business, giving up on an idea that you have.

I thought that I would just come on here and Talk about it. And so in today's episode, I will share five tips to help you overcome the bumps along the road when it comes to having self doubt. And this is something that we all experience. One thing that I'm realizing is that I don't think there's ever a point in time when you don't think about giving up when you are undertaking things that are.

Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, then it's normal to want to just go back to the way things were because it's easier. Let's just keep it real. It's easier. And so I was having a conversation with my friends the other day, and they both studied businesses in recent years. And so they were sharing.

At some point, wanting to give up one of them was in the thick of it. The other one, was overcoming that bump, but she had those feelings early in the year. I remember sharing that this is something that I struggle with all the time. And in talking to, the people that I know who are extremely successful, whether it's clients or friends, it seems.

That feeling never goes away because what's gonna happen is you're gonna keep pushing yourself.  And as soon as you get out of your comfort zone,  and you hit a roadblock, your mind is going to tell you, just forget it.  why do you have to make things so complicated?

So I will share with you some of the tips that I've been using over the years to help me not give up. I think the first one is you have to be clear on why you're doing what it is that you want to do.  So it can be about,  Hey, I'm doing this because my friends are doing it. Society says the school.

You have to be clear on the reason why you want to embark on this.  Whether it is to build wealth or to start a business,  what are you looking to gain from it? Why are you doing it?  Because when things get rough,  you should have something. So I would actually advise you to go ahead and write down your why,  So you can actually read it and understand that, okay, this is a temporary feeling that I need to let go of because my, why is so much bigger than the roadblocks that are along the way.  One thing about success is that people who succeed are the ones who don't give up. So you can give up now and wonder, or you can keep going.

And keep overcoming those roadblocks. You can eventually get to where you're trying to go. just wanna reinforce that, understanding you're why also helps you let go of comparison because it's easy to compare yourself to others. Easy to compare yourself to your peers, people who are on this journey, or on a similar journey as you who seem to be progressing faster, it's important to remind yourself and understand that what's for you is for you.

And it will come. When the time is right. I believe in God. So I think that whatever God has in store, for me, it will be mine. what someone else has going on has no impact on me, has no impact on my journey. And it's very, very important to understand why you are doing what you're doing so that you're not copying others because when things get.

You don't have a reason and then you just give up. So you might as well focus on the things that you actually think you should be doing, that you actually care about, that you actually feel like you're called to do that. You feel like, okay, I have a passion for this. I want to change something.

I wanna solve a problem. And just go back to the why. Go back to the why and go back to what you will gain from accomplishing yours. Number two, I would say spend time with like-minded individuals who push you to go harder,  Because when you set goals that are outside of your comfort zone,  then people around you might not necessarily understand you.

That doesn't mean that they don't love you. That doesn't mean that you're family and friends.  Don't love you.  they might not understand   I really like burner boy.  And one of the songs that he released no longer ago is called wild dreams.

And in the song, he talks about the fact that people don't believe in themselves.  So how can they believe it?  They're scared to go after the things that they care about, the things that they want.  So how can they help you or be of assistance to you as you do that?  so you shouldn't feel bad,  they just don't get it.

And that's okay. So it's important for you to find people who will get it.  People who will say, okay, Your goals might be big, but I think you can do it.  People who have done it before,  people who are motivated to also go after big goals, similar goals,  Whether it's okay. I want to build wealth. I want to retire early.

I want to be a millionaire.  I want to start a business. That's gonna help  a thousand people, a hundred thousand people,  whatever your goals are.  Just make sure that you surround yourself with people  who don't necessarily have the same goals, but are likeminded in the sense that they're also  going after pushing themselves  so that you guys can rely on each other.

I know for me, it was really hard to find those people early on in my journey, but. Once I did it made the whole process a lot easier because instead of having just one or two people to call or talk to when things get rough, I have a Rolodex of people that I can reach out to and they're going to pour into me.

And then when it's their turn, I can pour into them. And I think that is key in terms of being able to accomplish the goals that you have for yourself. the next one is to embrace the journey, really? Because a lot of times we focus on the destination, what we are trying to get to, what I've learned in life over the years is usually, when you have a goal, even though it's a big goal, when you get there, a lot of times, it doesn't feel the way you thought that it was going to feel. If you expect to get to point B, and all of your problems are gonna be solved and your life is gonna be 10 times better and all that stuff.

I think that's just setting yourself up for failure. I think it's important to love and cherish the journey as you keep pushing yourself towards those goals that you have,  Trust that you will accomplish what you set out to do,  but also understand that the process to get there is what you should enjoy because the process might take a lot longer than you think.

So who you become in the process, the lessons that you learn in the process, enjoy those, and also celebrate the wins along the way. Because there's no telling how long it will take you to be able to reach your goals. Unless it's like a scientific, proven way that you can get to where you're trying to.

If it's not, then it's also a matter of timing sometimes. And so you just have to keep pushing yourself. You just have to keep going and along the way, celebrate whatever milestones you hit, The fourth one I would say is to assess your progress. So it's so easy to look at what's ahead that you forget to take the time to actually see how far you've come.  And that's something that I'm 1000% guilty of.  when I think about where I was last year, two years ago, three years ago,  I'm realizing. Okay. I've made a lot of progress, even though I have a ton more things that I want to accomplish.

If you had told me three, two a year ago, that I would be where I am today, I wouldn't have believed you,  but a lot of times I don't even take the time to pause. So I have to remind myself, Hey,  wait a minute. Pause and look. When I get frustrated.  And so this is my advice to you.  Just take the time to assess how far you've come,  how you moving along when you're having those moments of doubt, because you realize that man,  you're on a debt-free journey or,  you're striving to hit a specific net worth, number,  or you have Business earning goals.  Just look at the milestone that you've already achieved and celebrate those. Remind yourself.  Look, I started at this point. This is where I am and I'm moving along in the right direction and I'm making progress.

Okay. And so the last one I wanna share is to have systems because there is nobody on this earth who wakes up every day,  motivated.  But what people who are continuously successful have is they have systems,  the systems work when they don't feel like working.  So one way that you can have systems in place and you can automate some of the things that you're doing, So whether, again, you are trying to pay off debt, half systems so that when you feel expl. You can't because the money's already been taken out of your account and it's already been allocated towards debt, whether it's a net worth goal, I wanna hit a million dollars by this time, have a budget and systems in place so that however much you need to invest every month, you automatically invested and then you get to do whatever you wanna do with.

If you are trying to hit certain revenue goals, when it comes to your business and you just don't feel like getting outta bed, you just don't feel like working that day, then have systems that remind you that if you don't get up, then you're not gonna hit the goals. It could be sticky notes all over the place.

It could be reminders in your phone. It could be affirmations that you say to yourself, but systems will change your. so those are some of the tips that I've been using over the years to help me overcome the moments of self-doubts that happen more often than not so just as a. The first thing that I think you should do is understand, be clear on your why and take the time to write down your why. The next thing I would say is spend time with people who think like likeminded individuals. That doesn't mean you agree on everything, but you're likeminded in the pursuit of whatever it is that you're, pursuing or how you're pushing yourself.

Number three, embrace the journey, the process. Number four, take some time to assess how far you've come assess your progress. And finally, five is have systems in place so that when you don't feel like working, you still get to work. Okay. And I think no matter what, no matter what you have to keep going, you can take a break.

You can slow down, but you shouldn't stop because if you stop. If your why is clear and you know why you're trying to get to that point. Then in the future, you will go back to what it is that you're trying to do today. And you'll have to probably start over you. Would've lost momentum, so it's best to just keep going.

But if you feel like you need a break, take a break, just don't stop we in this together. I promise you we're in it together.

All right. That's it for today's episode. I hope you enjoyed these tips that I shared. See you again next week.
