Transcript

You're listening to the Downbeat on ninety seven to one the Freak. Don't miss Dave Campo, former Cowboys coach, tomorrow at eight forty. We'll see if he goes ham Oh huh uh, might have something for you in about thirty minutes. Troy Aitman had some comments too on the Cowboys thing. We might have that for you, talking to JJ in the break about that. We'll see if we can. We might, we might get that. I'll meet you. We'll see in thirty minutes. We also have your talkbacks in the

iHeartRadio at the red microphone button. The segment that we're gonna do right now though, is brought to you by Alamo Draft House Cinema, and yesterday I've been in Skin along with her. Mark Cuban interview did reveal that Tuesday, the thirtieth, they'll be showing Bottle Rocket at the Alamo Draft House and Richardson that's the of course Owen and Luke Wilson film. If you haven't seen it, guilty, I'll be seeing it. You've never sun, you've never,

Yeah, don't get mad. He's thirty five. Yeah, but you've been friends with Ben Skin forever and they're friends with he doesn't Trush'll Getaway Driver Bob Maplethorpe. Yeah, but you know how it goes when you work with someone for a long amount of time, you eventually stopped caring about their recommendations. He doesn't trust him. I don't trust him because they don't take Do you

trust me? I do want spottle Rocket and I will add the thirtieth Today I'm doing thirtieth a draft House. Yeah, Almond draft House, Richardson ticket seven bucks, space limited, so get the tickets now. It's ninety seven one thefreak dot Com. You got a coo litt thing going or rotating month. It will be the Speakeasy next month, and then we will be back

in March for the downbeat movie of the Month. It's the Let's Freaking Chill series, brought to you by our wonderful friends at Almo draft House again Tuesday, the thirtieth Speakeasy. You'll do their show from there that afternoon. We told you in the last second too. Amazon has purchased a bit of the Diamond Sports Group Bally situation. They've invested in it and hypothetically you're still waiting on more details to come on on that, but hypothetically that would move probably

next year, these games to Amazon Prime. Ian these headlines Diamond Amazon strike deal, Prime Video to stream Bally Sports. Hell yeah, so again timetable, I'm sure, but it's pretty clear right there, man, quite clear that the nightmare of not being able to see our squads without tap dancing and god knows what else seems to be over sooner than later. I guess if you have Amazon Prime, does everyone who uses Amazon have Amazon Prime? Well, if you have Amazon Prime, so do I pay an annual fee for

Amazon Prime? Yet's gone up in the last year. There used to be like what what just for? Before they blew up into what they were or what they are? You'd pay for Amazon Prime, which meant you got free shipping on selected orders, which is most of the stuff that they offer, and then it included access to their Prime Video channel. Okay, but now it's blown up to be so much more so they've increased the cost of that

yearly membership to account for the content that the channel's providing. Because used to you didn't really use Amazon Prime the TV aspect of it that much. It was just kind of like an add on. Yeah, Like okay, well maybe there's something on there that I want to watch. But you know, as they their their contents grown, they've they've started charging a higher amount per year. So it's fifteen bucks a month. Yeah, boy, I didn't

know that it's fifteen dollars a month. I always had it just as a member of Amazon, I guess for the free delivery, and I didn't even know I really had it. And then a year into that, I'm like, oh, wait, then you put the app on one hundred eighty bucks log in. You're like, I already have this. Yeah, basically, and you've had it the whole time. Yeah, it's crazy, but I'll probably go up fifteen bucks a month. That's more than you know, it's

tracked up to twenty if they're carrying your teams now. But you're getting free shipping, mikeye that it's true, like all the useless crap that you order from that website now a lot of overnight stuff too. He's very nice. Get it quick, it is amazing. But also support your local small businesses.

Saturday night was the I'm Sorry. Monday Night was the seventy fifth annual Emmy Awards, and they did this like one minute like montage video and seventy five years of television, and then little digging and I found well, they actually put out the top seventy five most iconic television moments, in fact, top twenty seventy five most impactful television moments. And I started to looking at

this list and I went, holy cow, this is great. I pulled audio of a few that you know, that were easy to grab and that we're kind of allowed to play here, but I I thought it'd be kind of a fun, uh guess as well for you guys. I'm gonna take a lot of shots at it because I'll go first Brian Demarris's rant on James Harden. Okay, that didn't quite make it. I'm sorry, Bally Sports, it was epic. Bally Sports is Brian Demeris you told us to guess

Goes. He just destroyed James Hard and I think he had to apologize for it, too. Okay, I go, I have that is such an idiotic guess, but I love it. Mirrors. I have some qualifying questions, like, is sports moments on here? There's a few, Okay, not a lot? Number one a super Bowl? It's not I mean TV history A lot the Super Bowl that you're thinking, you're If you're thinking what I'm thinking, I doubt it. I would think it's probably boxing and baseball

boxing. I guess I'll need to hear a few. Don't give a few. I'm just I'm not understanding what they're like. Television moments, Okay, so not I will let me let me burst the thing here Tony Soprano's final scene. Oh yeah, the you're talking about Journey playing? Yeah, yeah, sitting at the table at the diner, number thirty six. Okay, okay, things like that, Okay, iconic moments okay, uh, impactful television moment. How about uh uh Captain Kirk's first interracial kiss bam with u

Huru. Okay, now that's going to be Star Trek. Correct, Yeah, find on this page, Kevin, I know control which one is? It's control left right? Or is the command F? Depends on your make Yeah, command F because Star Trek. Yeah, it was number fifty. The kiss? Yes, all right? Another kiss? Uh Will and Grace when they're for the first televised gay man kiss on Will and Grace? Is that no? Correct? No? Or maybe it was a was Ellen. Let me play this for you, because this is actually one that I pulled

here, number thirteen on the list. I don't know, there's kind of out of order her, but it is Ellen and coming out as gay. Apparently it was like the first one to do it on National TV. But the way they kind of wrote this is kind of funny. They're at an airport, this is this is so hard. But I think I've realized that I am I can't even say the word. Why can't I say the word? I mean, why can't I just say? I mean, what is wrong? Why? Why do I have to be so ashamed? I mean,

why can't I just say the truth? I mean, be who I am. I'm thirty five years old. I'm so afraid to tell people. I mean, I'm just Susan, I'm gay. She actually said it over the thing, oh the airport at the back. Okay, that's funny, it's kind of funny. So that was in nineteen nineties three, I think, And that was okay, And that was on the show TV sitcom Ellen. I vaguely remember that existence she tells Laura, Laura durn she's gay.

My memory of that is seeing the tabloids at the store with mom. You know, see on the as you're checking out and there's all the tablets next to bat Boy. Was Ellen's Ellen's out or something, you know, Like I didn't fully get it at the time, but that was a big deal in nineteen ninety. Yeah, that was number thirteen on the list. Okay, now I'm understanding the rules. Let me guess Arsenio Hall's one millionth hand pump. Okay, No, it wasn't the no and it wasn't the first

time they did Carconio. There was a clip of Carcinio going around last night from Saturday Night Live in which in which he goes or it's canceled up. He now, well, yeah, Johnny Carson hated it, and he's like, we're changing some things. We're gonna try to hit it the younger audience. We've got our first guest tonight is Tom Kite, and they've got Kite.

They've got a guy to Tom Kite and he's doing the fist bottle just golfer in the history of the sports, like literally he slathered in sunscreen wisely and incredible. It's just beautiful. I watched it last night. Tom Kit comes out with a circular hat. Geez here it is I had and the square glasses. Yeah right, all right, all right, now we made a few changes, a few little tweaks here and there, and I got

the shoot and a few other things. I have this finger elongated. You're around twenty nine years you shouldn't be afraid to I'll make a few adjustments for the yunk pile, Young America. Yes, ed, ed, have you noticed? Look who is hanging out in the doghouse tonight, My man Tom Kite. He is kicking butt on the peg. It's incredible. They both have him and McMahon both have white kid and play haircuts. Yeah, Danna Carvey talking about all that stuff is great because Johnny Carson like held a grudge

against him for that bit, really just for doing carcity. So great. All right, you guys are on top seventy five television moments according to the Emmys. Yeah, Mash something mass that's a good guess right there, And that is number twenty four right there, Okay, landing on the Moon. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Number eight was the final episode of Mash. There was another one where a plane get shot down. That was number twenty four. Danny got number one right there,

Okay. News the whole TV. Oh John JFK coming down now, one man? Now was that scripted? Or did he do that off the cuff? Now that's great, it's beautiful. It was. It's scripted, right, It had to be because scripted, as in, at least he thought of it. He had nothing else to do up there. Yeah, well he's putting his boots on. I'm floating around in the eating past. Holy, yes, Holy f and s it's the moon. It's moon. Have you heard the onion? We used to play that on all the time,

but you have to beep it out. Holy is in a chicken basket? And see in a chicken basket, I'm on the moon? Did you say JFK? Did I get JFK Number five? From Dallas, Texas. The first of all, let me say, Walter Concorde legend. Listen to the many gaffes that he has clearing his throat on the air and a stumble. I thought he was a perfect broadcaster. I feel way better about myself now you should. From Dallas, Texas. The flash Apparently official President Kennedy died

at one pm Central Standard Time some thirty eight minutes ago. A vice President, Lindon Johnson has left at the hospital in Dallas, but we do not know to where he has proceeded. Presumably he will be taking the oath of office shortly and become the thirty sixth President of the United States. Wow, what did you hear? Gaff wise in there? I heard a man that was holding back tears. Yeah, emotional, Kevin, because you're bereft of any emotion. I assumed that he was a Republican and it was okay with

what had happened. Okay, what is wrong with you? Huh? You need assistance. I have sickness. I have the disease. Okay, Beatles on television, Beatles, Yeah, didn't pull up the audio Elvis on television doing the hips. Okay. Elvis did show up on the list, his number eleven on the ED. Was it a Loha from Hawaii via satellite? I think it was the first one, the first time Elvis did the ED. Sullivant he I was curious if the the other appearance the first the first

ever satellite concert, satellite broadcast concert. That's an oversight. The other concert was number thirty seven was live aid? Oh so uh, he's Whitney Houston's national anthem on there it sure is, Mike, He's good. This one. I'm getting number sixty five, okay, where Houston performs the star spangled banner? Is the well the challenger exposure? Yes, yeah, tough one there. That was number twelve. Oh then sorry, no, I no, I don't have audio for this because I also number two. Excited.

Before I say the next one, go ahead, I'd like to present Danny Bella's number two will be nine to eleven. It is nine eleven, and you can pull a different ton of different sources for that, so I didn't worry about that either. You didn't play your favorite nine to eleven moment, yea, Katie Kirk, you know, but then Matt Louer was on staff, so I felt dirty pulling it, so I just didn't. Is that the only is there only one nine to eleven thing? Yep? Okay,

not the bush I hear you, because that was awesome. What about when he what that was cool? When he's on the rubble and they're like, we can't hear you. What about when he told everyone that he don't but I don't know what you're gonna do, but don't he's up to no good. Let me just say we're talking about Geordian we're talking about W. How about but W throwing out the first pitch Yeah in the world too. No, dude, I thought that would be on there. I really did,

because that was that was big and it was like nerve wracking. What about when he says that we're going to catch all the terrorists and then as he says goodbye to the media, he grabs his driver and rips it two hundred and fifty yard right in the middle of the fairway. That was one of our what a baller first political memes? Whatever I'm stressed to hear about the latest suicide bombers in Israel. Uh, we're not gonna take it. And then he rips I got it right here. It's amazing. I watch this

drive. It's so good. I'm sorry one Oh my god, an ad Okay, hold on, you're doing great. I know metrics. Yeah, I know. Well, I didn't know we were gonna do this, but this should be up there like this is iconic to me. I think it's all the time. This segment is called Kevin looks up crap on his compute. No it's not. It's way more prepared than that. It is. Listen we're ordering off the menu. Thank you, okay, to do everything they can to stop these terrorists killers, thank you? How watch his drive?

Okay, dude, it's so he did. That's him trusting the media people to be respectful name all right, all right, all right, hey, we're gonna do everything we can do here, but let me squeeze an eighteen and we live in a clown country. Amazing, Right, Oh, it's so great, so great. Something last episode of Cheers, Oh Cheers is did I get in there at the bottom there? Number seventy three? Something friend Ted Dancing goes, I'm the luckiest son of a bitch your live

and cheers in Friends final episode number sixty eight. How about the Simpsons? Something in the Simpsons had to have made an appearance, right, I think yes? Number thirty nine. The first episode of the Simpsons, first episode, yeah, okay, called Simpsons Roasting on an open fire? Is that the one where Homer asked if if God himself could microwave a burrito hot enough

to where even he couldn't need it? And I don't know, but that's a wild question, and great, it's one of the most brilliant questions I've ever posed. Totally. Number four that you guys have missed here is this was Roots, the premiere episode where you see, Yes we have roots. You have the MLK speech number six, which and I think in honor of that, we should get Tony Romos. Look at my African American. Here's Tony Romo on the CBS broadcast the other day. There's to have a day

named after him? What a day, Martin Luther King Jean, because there's to have a day named after him? Twelve Mason Rudolph's got him backed up, touching heartfelt. Number seven was mister Rogers and it's one where he shared a waiting pool on a hot day with Officer Clemens. Sorry at all, that's right. Yeah, yeah, that was so weird about that. Officer Clemens was African American and people went crazy because they were both they both had

their feet in a waiting pool in the same water. Yes, I mean they're talking about late sixties, early seventies, so yeah, we're kind of at the at the height of civil rights volatility in this country, and people were outraged that their children were allowed to see a white man and an African American man in the same sharing the same water. This is a clown country. What did that long ago? Was it? Number nine? Six five four? We've gone from main engine start. We have started rock and roll.

Oh, welcome to m TV Music Television. That's a world verse twenty four hours stereo. But you know what they did? This is odd And by the way, the guy runs our entire company, Bob Pittman was part of the creation of MTV. Shout out Bob Pittman. He goes to a VJ Alan Hunter and he talks and then they go to break. Before they they went to break for a minute and rocket promo and then came back introduced

the VJs and then they did way again. We'll be right back to introduce the other VJs and the other folks who are going to be with us on MTV. I read that book I want my MTV. Very interesting, good, very good. You bring it in? Yeah here, yeah, absolutely, number ten last one will do here? Oh man, this first episode about a live show. Nice to see you, welcome and thanks for joining us live. I'm kind of glad that we're on at night so that we're

not competing with all the football and baseball game. Well, did you have a joke stroke? He had one of you. What was that? That was? What the first episode of Saturday Night Live? Oh what did that rank? Number ten? Now that you guys all have Peacock, you should go watch that first episode has to see how weird it is. I watched the whole first season. You know, it's it's incredibly weird, really funny mm hmm that times. Yeah, but they were figuring it out. It's

pretty niche and I don't think I could monetize it. But I'm considering doing a kind of spinoff podcast of watch watching every Saturday Night Light of episode because next year season fifty, and watch every Saturday Night Live episode review it in a podcast. That would take forever and no one would care besides me, But it's something I'm still considering doing. It's incredible how it's amazing to me how popular that show got so fast considering how completely unstructured it was. Yeah.

No, it's and still unstructured, honestly. I mean they've got a formula, dude, They do a formula, but a lot of that formula is doing things on Lauren's time, whenever Lauren is ready to do. I'm talking about the layout of the show. Have the run of the show is one hundred percent structured in formula. Have y'all seen the James Franco thing on this, Yeah, it's great. It's I mean, it's an hour and a half behind the scenes YouTube thing. It's back and white, yep,

and it's not edited like perfectly. It's just behind the scenes of doing a week a week in the life of a Saturday Night Live guest. It's a pretty fun cast. John malcovic is the host that we'd love it, dude. It's Bill Hayter, Fred Armison and you know Will Forte. That group keenan strong cast, a good strong cast. Yeah, and later nine it's on YouTube only. He never finished it. That is free really. Yeah, it's great and it's really fun to watch the process of when they write,

when they sleep, they don't. That just harder than people think it is. I know people like knock that show from yours. I'm like,

that is a tough job. Give me a couple of random ones. Number twenty four, Number twenty four at TV Moment of All one of the mashes things that we talked about thirty three, but number twenty three was live coverage of Congress counting electoral votes, capturing the j six, Insurrection twenty seven, the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld Okay, perfect, Breaking Bad pilot number thirty one, that first scene, you know, uh yeah, the Janet Jackson

boob is on there. I think that was. That was the other Super Bowl one that was sixty one. The Nip Slip. Princess Dinah's funeral got some action on there, did number fifty six. This is probably some recency bias, but maybe it deserves it is the last of us. The episode with Bill and Frank I was on there. Yeah, has it poisoned each other? That should have won the Emmy. I'm sorry. The Red Wedding from the Game of Thrones number fifty one. Uh oh oh, well,

one more I'm gonna play. I'm gonna play this when I'm sorry. This is number forty nine, and I'm gonna play this because it happened in two thousand and four. This is awesome. Everybody in the audience and I listen to me carefully is being given a special package. And I don't want you to open it. Do not open it. Cameras are on you, so do not open until I tell you, all right, open your boxes. Two great. It is so my favorite TV is chaos freaking out. There's

women vomiting. I'm sorry to fire in the car because they all got a fire. A live bear comes out. It's so crazy, that's disturbating. Bear runs out. It's like the scene and Airplane when they run out of coffee, mockey fight and the one lady runs again. All right, come out. Next, we manage some of Troy Aikman audio because he's gone off on the Cowboys, and we'll check out what you had to say about our show today. That's next to ninety seven won the Freak
