This is a downbeat on ninety seven to one the freak. All right, we're gonna get right to this. Continuing of the news scuttle butt year in Review begins right now. It's brought you by Parker University Parker dot Edu. We pick things up May sixth, I've been doing this all week. Start on Monday. News cycles are fast. So May six nine people were killed
in the Allen Outlet mall shooting. Oh, it's tough to start on a bad one today, yep, But that was the biggest story of the year for our city, probably, right, Yeah, that and the Rangers winning the World Series. Big contrast there. But man, all right, only because we're in the area. Was there a death toll from yesterday from UNLV that either yell aware of because I saw that popping and I was trying to
look that up and I didn't see you. I just know we had another one yesterday and yesterday it was the same day they had all this discussion on the you know, in Washington about the seeing three three. He's the last I saw last night. I've seen this morning an updated story in the last like fifteen hours. And what I was off that was a sixty seven year old man you nl yesterday? Yeah, a former or a disgruntled professor who
was rejected for a job. Ye, tough, this was apparently, you know, the Allen thing was based on all the evidence they gathered over time. It was just a straight up hate attack. Yeah. And the fact that there were only nine given what we know, given when the I mean, obviously twenty people were injured, yep, you know, but the response was immediate. But seeing the video of the police officer's response, it was
immediate response. And he happened to be in the area. Just seeing him go there on foot and you watch the five minute video, You're like, how did only nine people die? Exactly? Because that place is loaded that Allen out with mall was and it's never been all that time. Have you ever been up there? Yes? Yeah, same, Yes, a cop was a badass too. Here was like to have the body cam and to see instant run toward I don't know, man, those are some tough dudes.
Incredible because you're they're just humans. Yeah. Yeah, it's incredible that the people that do those types of jobs, armed forces, military cops, all of that that they have, they're able to switch it off, to switch off the human instinct to go away from that stuff and to go towards it, knowing good and well that your risk of making it through that is probably uh not great. And you're the first one. You're the one by yourself person. I mean, you're part of this team. You know everything
about it is team and backup. But in these circumstances, you are the one. And it's not all of them, you know. I mean, I know the Uvalday thing, it was not handled properly and allegedly because some people didn't want to charge into a potentially deadly situation. But that dude charge And this dude was obviously the shooter had been so I want to say radicalized, but he was you know, they went and did research on his background and and a lot of things he'd been doing online and he was clearly in
the world of neo Nazis and he was all nazied up. More of a thing that has been in a while, Nazis, Like how do you spiral into how much Internet leads you to spiral into? This is this is my jam? Yeah, I think I'm gonna be a nazy And it's not like you're just a little into it. Yeah, they're always a pretty good once you're a little into it. It defines you don't stay on the outer levels too much once you get in there. You know, I'm gonna go full
Nazi. Too much Internet, if you should ban people from getting on the Internet, well that's not a bad that would be a very Nazi thing to do. Okay, Okay, some people are on the Internet a whole lot too much. And where they're at on the internet, right, Okay, So maybe prevent certain locations if you're like you guys need if you're messed around on four or eight chan or anything that's divisible by those numbers, m m on that you're running into bad things. There's a lot of very interesting stuff
on the station when that happened. But here to your Skin's account, and it was different, you know, and Skin has his kids who walk I think he said walk to that Alan outlet mom frequently. You know how we always say when these things happen, the closer to home and the concentric circles away from the location of the shooting, that's how much much it impacts you. And that was really tough man. Well, let's lighten it up a
little bit. May fifteenth, Martha Stewart becomes the oldest cover girl for Sports Illustrated Simsuit issue at eighty one boom, and the question stands would you two and four eight one seven seven eight seven one ninety seven one. We won't take your calls, leave a voicemail or a text. The number works the way she ever considered hot like before, Yes, I don't see I don't remember that. Well, it was before, like our awareness of her as
the kind of homemaker mom, cooking lady. But in her early days she was a model in the twenties. Yeah, in the twenties, twenties, okay, yes, that in the nineteen twenties. Hey, y say, look at the games on Martha did the twenties. Now, and she's model, but she was just a generic homemaker lady for most of her career.
She was boring, right, and then oh you have a candle, cool neat And then she made friends with snoopy Dog, and then everyone started thinking she's hot like ten years ago, and they're right, pull up that picture, though, I'll say, not my type. Which picture am I looking at Sports Illustrated Issue? The one on the cover or the uh one's on the inside. I saw all of them. Is there a fold out on the cover, you'd go, yeah, not bad. No, she's beautiful. How old? Not my type? How old is she? Eighty one?
Dude? My mom is eighty one. That's insane. The hello Martha, Yeah, I don't know why. Yeah, Alexis Stewart, she's eighty two. Now, guys, Tomlin's eighty four. No, I mean there's Martha Stewart when she was a young model. I mean, that's a beauty. It's beautiful. Her daughter is a radio personality, Alexa Stewart, only child of Martha Stewart, and she's fifty eight. I think she's into boring stuff too. For now, wait another ten years, she'll be on browsers.
May twenty first, God think twenty first. Brooks kept going to the PGA Championship by three shots of our Scottie Cheffer and Victor Howlin. Second major of the year with the Brooks her mind and everybody who the terminator is and reminding every one that major winners are now on the lift tour. Uh Foo Fighters announced the live stream that Josh Frees would be their new drummer. That's a kind of a weird like live streaming event for a band to do that.
Here's our new drummer. But they're big enough to do that because the circumstances are pretty yeah unique for the fighters. Yes, let'ld say that May twenty third, Netflix begins cracking down on password sharing between subscribers and non paying customers. Then they see their profits come in, so they cracked down on
it, and it worked when we all should have taken a stand. If we all take a stand and just delete Netflix for a couple months, but instead everyone panicked, didn't get their Netflix a final get my own account, started giving them money, their profits go up, and now we can't share passwords anymore. Cheat the companies. I've seen headlines of articles about this that say that that move has backfired on them, but I have yeah, yeah,
but I haven't actually read the articles. Maybe I should just the headline said what Danny said, the pain what can't share passwords is a pain? Were you a password share Yeah? Yeah, hell yeah, we're all password shairs in something. I got somebody else's I have someone else's Max, I have someone else's Disney Many or my mom has my Netflix, and I think that's it. Apple. I got my own Apple. Yeah, I got Apple and Hulu a rock. Hulu is my main base. I think I
have my brothers, my paramount HBO Max. I mean, if you really did eliminate all password sharing and you could lock it to one thing, whatever, one account, I mean, these streaming companies would would double their profits. I mean, I understand how in the office you have this discussion, You're like, whoa this, we need to do this, And I don't
know how they're not a lot harder on it than they are. I mean, if you if I if I go to McDonald's with Danny and I say I want one hamburger and give him one too, They're gonna say, no, like, pay for one hamburger, but he wants a hamburger too, So I don't want. I don't want to pay. I want to pay for the one hammer. I want to buy one hamburger, but I want you to give him one. They're just say, oh, yeah, okay, that sounds a good deal. Like nowhere else in the world is it
okay? But we all kind of get away with it to some degree with these I don't know why we all get We all downloaded music. You know, we've been we've been cheating for a long time, don't they give you I don't know if Netflix does this, but YouTube TV does a family share thing where you can you can share your YouTube TV account with up to five people. Yeah, Netflix does it. They do up to a certain number of people. But that seems it's supposed to because it's supposed to be cheaper
than like cable and all that. And now they're getting ridiculous with the prices. No, we're paying more, but why does that? But I mean, look, if Netflix is giving you five user accounts to share and you're paying for one, that's you're getting five Hamburgers for the price of one Hamberg's. So it has to be within the household, like actually a certain number of TVs, So it has to be on the same ip that you're using your Okay, well no, and YouTube's YouTube tv is not that way.
No, there's different numbers. Because my mom in Florida has my Netflix, Like when I log into Netflix, does Mikey and Fida. But I think now with Netflix, it's like, oh, are you on vacation and like are you somewhere else? Like okay, now you can if you like verify it. Oh yeah, I think it's okay, cool, you can log
in. I think it's pasted to account something like that. Okay, And they're getting trick though, because when I was in Buffalo, right we wanted we couldn't get the Airbnb to work, so I always logging into my Hulu and uh, I had to log in. It's like, are you I had to change it to my home. Yeah, and then when I got home, you change it back and you can only do that. I think twice per year. That's so weird. But I don't blame them for figuring
out. You know, we're giving away a lot of free Hamburgers. Kevin's getting Nancy. I'm sorry. What is late May got one day left Knockout. Six months, two of the great TV shows of our time, Barry in Succession, aired their final episode Both Great Great Both Great. Boy was the late comer to Succession. I thought I didn't like it after season one. Yeah, It's like the show's dumb. And then I finally, Oh, I get it. Really Yeah, I've started kind of understanding what it.
You know, the deeper meaning of that show was in Boy. It opened it up for me from the beginning. You like it at first, it was incredible, love it. June ninth, MESSI joins the MLS. All right, June ninth, what a story that becime became become The Nuggets won the title. June twelfth, Remember when they did that over the eight
seed Miami heat? Uh, Grimace Mania twelfth talked about that yesterday. Had that damn milkshake the June thirteenth, Speaking of milkshakes, go ahead, June thirteenth, the Vegas Golden Cup. Remember we went to the Western Conference finals, lost to them. I was thinking about that a couple months ago. I was like, it wasn't that long that the Stars went on a big playoff run, and the think I was thinking about that during the Rangers run.
But the kind of forgot what happened in that playoff run. As we do, I guess as time passes. June eighteenth, The Titan submersible goes missing. Here we go June eighteenth. Pick story to captivate a nation. Turn to the side. Nothing nothing, don't seriously put on golf channel. I can't handle I can't handle the Fox Weather right. It's been going too much much. It's also not enough. At the same time, it's a perfect story. Don't these white devils? You've seen a woman before? Me
take an easy pharacon. What are you doing over there? God calling me a white It's a perfect story to captivate a nation because we love the craziest ones. We love people stuck in caves or lost at sea, or you know, I guess on some level a mountain, well yeah, zip line. And then you love the shark thing, or you know, you love the the extreme ones. And by claustrophobia is one that even if you don't like have it diagnosed or whatever, we all got it a little bit.
But the thing about this was once it reached a certain time, you knew that that thing wasn't coming back up. It was just a matter of when it was going to implode. And then everybody wanted to know what it must have been like, yes, to die and counted they never knew on the news of how much oxygen they have left. And we're like, I think with the five days, and we all got super into it, rightly so,
and we wanted them to be rescued. And then one sinfil comes out of like, look, there's like one ship in the entire Atlantic that can has the capability of clipping onto this thing and pulling it out of there, like you knew all was lost, and then at least for a long weekend, you're just thinking of these people are in this thing. It's the half the size of this table. There's the exploratory nature of it. There's the artifact Titanic, the most famous artifact in the world probably, and then the
modern world, which still is a mystery to so many of us. And about Malaysian plane three seventy going down ten years ago, like we're captivated by the ocean as well. You throw all those things into one store and rich people, rich people and doing luxurious things. Audio or or video from sixty minutes from a year ago of the guy and then showing how he used a PlayStation controller. Yeah, a crappy one, not even like good, like off brand. Yeah, the off brand, not even like I have a
better Xbox controller, not even close than that. Dude, happy had your Xbox controller, they might still be alive. I have in studio, we having a studio right now. What was the guy's name, I don't remember, Jay Bloom, No, the guy had on no guy the main guy, dude. So one was like Hassan s something Stockton Malone, no stocked and Rush Stockton Malone which is a character if I ever write anything like the local billionaire stocked in Malone, the greatest pick and roll duos of all times.
I think stock Rush, the philanthropist, entrepreneur and billionaires stalked in Malone. The male man mysterious and handsome, the mail man wearing short shorts, short shorts hanging out with underage girls. See see what you did? We know? Just go and really against the vaccine. Oh, Wyndham Clark. When the US opened by one on that same day, the submersible goes down, Wyndam Clark's career goes up. That's one over rory. That was amazing
at LA Country Club and well deserved. And I think Windham I think that is not Wyndham Clark's last major either. I don't think he was just a total flash in the pain. You heard it. Here are your first I'll take a point. This one's funny to me. The Wagner group mercenaries led by you have Jenny Pregosian. They rebelled against the victor of Vladimir Putin. And it's wild because Progosion was Putin's hot dog vendor, a street hot dog vendor like years prior and then he like got to know him, and then
he's like, screw it, let's go take down Putin. And then they strike a deal to get him to stand down, and then like nine days later he dies in a plane crash against just classic, the old exploding plane. It happens only in the good old motherlamb the Russia with the planes exploding June twenties. We don't know what happened. Malfunction I had on the Russian
the Passer podcast. Yeah, knew nothing about American football. Nothing. And then succession continued on June twenty seventh, when Ryan Seacrest was announced to be the successor to Pat say Jack on Wheel of Fortune. What does that kick off? Twenty twenty four? Sometime I think he'll go through the spring. I bet it's face. He's in training fall right now. I can't wait. He's in Wheel boot camp. Okay, so what you do here? You see? You know you want to ask him? Do they want to
spin or buy a vow? Okay? Yeah, I got it too early in the puzzle. Don't mention the word solve. Okay, Yeah, pretty much gone, and I can start Monday, no, no fall. All right, now, look they're gonna ask if they have any bees right and then come up, I got it. I've been watching it forever. It's simply But they could also ask do they have any c's right now? Every every letter, every letter? Got it. I've got I'm gonna go to the TV show and I got a host, and I have another TV show
that I'm doing now. Yeah, I'm ready. So look, give me the date nine podcasts. Text me the date in the address. July fifth, Threads is launched direct competition to Twitter and uh and in July sixth, no one cared fail uh fail not yet dude, Really, I think there will be someone who makes a run at at a crumbling Twitter, and then Threads already has the infrastructure in and yes it feels very dead, but it's the only likely one right now. My Space has a better chance of making
a comeback than Threads being successful. Actually, if my Space came back right now and said, hey, we're my Space, Yeah, Nostalga's in, man, Yeah, is my Space still up and running? They're the Vinyl of digital media and didn't uh this may be Toms from fifteen years ago, didn't justin Timberlake by my Space? Anyone? Man? Is that in the movie he had something. No, he he actually did. I remember reading that that he bought my Space or bought some of my stuff. Focus on
his own career for a while, because I'll tell you what what. Things aren't going well for old Timberlake. Why just because of that Brittany book. No, because he got caught dancing really terribly. Justin Timberlake twelve years ago buys his own social network with my Space investment. Yeah, thirty five million dollars and yeah, his plan obviously was to bring it back then. But dude, I'm with you. I'm going to buy my Space stock because I
think it's gonna I think it's going to re emerge. Not if Timberlake's in charge of it. I don't know. His career is not even going to re emerge. Balls into your court. Justinlake respond, what are you going to wait? Until he responds to Kevin. Actually he diy'd back within sne because that's a pretty big song for the movie. Trolls too. He's doing fine. We'll pick it up in July twenty first. Tomorrow. God, we may have to do part tomorrow. We'll see what happens coming up next
though. We have a celebrity mystery guest joining us as well as you call two one four or eight one seven seven eight seven one ninety seven to one if you want to be our picker this week, you picked the Cowboys game and another NFL game picks with Glenn's returns next to ninety seven one in the Freak
