You're listening to the downbeat on ninety seven to one the freak all right, here we go, look at you? What inspired this? Heard this song? Have you heard this one before? I heard the first like thirty seconds seven? Would say this sounds good too, that's a just everyone likes this if you hate Radiohead, right, yes, I still like this song.

Yes I did too. You know they played this at the show I was at at MSG and they very rarely play this song and the crowd, even if you're like a crazy Radiohead fan freaked out because we even like it. I think you and I are simpatico that we are not the old guard Radiohead people that just thought man so looked after okay computer man. No. I think you and I have evolved with them absolutely and stayed true to them. There is that faction though, that's like thinks anything Man the Bins was their

best record, which it may very well be. That's all open for a good Yeah. Well, there's a faction thinks they're absolutely just a one one hit wonder. M oh yeah. People just don't know. Yeah, But I love the stuff that they continue to do, and I think the new Smile stuff is great. They're just I don't know. It sounds like it was a movie stuff. This was a huge nineties hit, probably right around maybe about a year before you were born. Yet three looked up this was

ninety three. Okay, so then the Bins was what ninety five? Is that right? Yeah? I think so? Okay, Wow, I'll be damn yeah, you were you was one. You're a baby baby the center, a little little bassinette rocking out to creep, a little slugger, a little bat in one hand, and you can't even hold the way to the bat, but she can press play on that damn CD player well with Pablo Honey, but I don't like most of it. I like that one song so great. That is dandy baylist. J. J. Jackson will be

pressing play with our movie expert at nine o'clock. She's seen a couple of big ones. We got Sports of seven coming up here a little bit. I guess the little Cowboys stuff MAVs with a pretty dominant victory last night. We'll get around some crap there. Uh. I do kind of want to tease forward. I think our friends from London, at least one of them is going to join us tomorrow right on, because look I ain't gonna lie my f one pants are exploding. I don't know. It's hard to stand

next to you in certain incidents. Yeah, and you shouldn't. You should not stand within d There's nothing worse than standing next to a man that has a Icelandic volcano just ready to erupt in his action pants. I figured this out too. I think, look, this might be real, too deep for a pre open to the most important thing in the world, But I

figured out the meaning of life looking forward to crap. I'd literally think that's the meaning of life as we all search, because whether that be I'm looking forward to the Formula one race in Las Vegas this weekend, I'm looking forward to your big event tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to you know, and I'm speaking for anyone one day getting married and having a kid. I'm looking forward to getting rich. It means excess, whatever it is. I think

that's all it is is. We're the things that you dream about in the future, whether it be minute like a car race coming up, or the Cowboys and Panthers game, or the NFL playoffs this year. I think that's really kind of it. And then the other side of that is that most of it doesn't live up to the excitement of leading up to it. Yeah, like the Masters did it exceeds. Hey, right now I'm freaking out

about next April, Like it's I think about it every few days. I think that's kind of it is just the things you're looking forward to, whether they be huge or tiny. I think this is a broader existential discussion. But yeah, a lot of people would say that the meaning of life is, you know, being able to sit still in a place and be able to be okay without distractions. What you're describing is the anticipation of your next distraction from real life. Yeah, okay, that's a way to put it.

Yeah, yeah, I don't know if there's a right or wrong way to me. John Lennon said it best whatever gets you through the night, you know, and hopefully you can stay alive through whatever that is that gets you through that night. But we're all just little cockroaches, just scurrying around when the light comes on in most instances, just trying to survive. I mean, Drake said it best you only live once, yolo, but too,

Yeah, I mean it's hard. I mean, you don't especially if you you know, find financially short, you know, it's hard to do the things that you love, so obviously when the opportunity presents itself no doubt, and you've worked hard to save and do what you can, well, it's just for that few hours. Yeah, I agree with that there are

limitations because you can't do but that's another broader one to be. I'm looking forward to being having financial freedom, I think, and you know, me or you or any of us, am I on the path to that as best I can be? Yes? And that will make it so then I can go to Italy or whatever that looking forward to dream is, or going to the Caribbean or whatever it is. In one way, you're describing hope, and we all need hope to remain kicking, I believe, you know.

And the anticipation of something in the future, being excited about something, it kind of gives you hope that I don't know that something brighter is ahead.

Yes, And I think that when we get in our older ages and we've kind of done everything, or really you don't have the I don't know, the energy or the opportunities to set these little little goalposts out in front of you to look forward to. I think that's when the mind starts deteriorating and you just kind of go, you know what, I think I've just done enough here. Yeah, I'm gonna will myself to the afterlife. Yeah.

I mean it's kind of sad because you know, when people retire, it's like what you're what sixty seventy depending on the age of you you're retiring, because because I'm just thinking, like my father, my dad just retired. Now. Literally the first thing I say, I was like, how what are you gonna do? Like you did it, like you can do so much now to work. He's just like, you know, I'm just

gonna fix some stuff around the house. I was like, well, that that's it, Like there's no grand plan, like I think, I just think of retiring, you like buy a boat and you just ail the seas for a few months and you know, I mean I mean obviously, yeah, you don't have the money to do that, you know. But it's kind of sad though on the way too, that you're thinking after retirement when

you're all like, you just don't want to do anything after that. You just you've already done so much and now it's like, well that brings in a question the structure of our entire American existence or traditional work existence, where you work X amount of years and then you make enough to enjoy your golden years when you know, ideally you'd have been enjoying all the years when you had you know, your health and your your spry and your youth. But

it's all relative to you. I mean, they're as far as the affordability factor, they're you know, none of us in here are rich by any

stretch. But you know there's things that I'm watching the Crown, you know, for example, and the things that they the privilege that they have and that they're afforded to do, and the things that they have to look forward to on a scale are just like what I will never be able to do that kind of stuff in my lifetime, whereas us, you know, maybe looking forward to meeting a friend that you haven't seen in yeah, in six months, on a Friday night. That that's cheap, It doesn't really cost

anything to do that. You can you know, you can be just as excited about meeting that friend as King Chuck can be excited about going to Scotland for the weekend, Yeah, to play golf, to the castle in Scotland. Yeah, Balmorra or whatever. That's exactly right. I'm in it, bro Oh, I'm in it deep, I love it, deep in it. Well, the very shortest term and least existential is And the reason this came up is that I'm very excited for the F one race in Vegas this

weekend. But I know, much like most sporting events, it's gonna the anticipation is the best part, Like the excitement of what's gonna happen, Who's gonna be there, It's gonna be wheels off? Is it gonna be a cluster blank? Is it gonna be great? Like, it's just gonna be a race that Max Ferstaff and crushes everyone. And then I'm gonna be like, all right, Well that was it, and the best part was before

it happened. And I just think that applies to most sporting events, like most most things, most sexual encounters, yeah, in about all of them. The anticipation, you know, all those sometimes have a decent culmination. Anyway, all that nonsense, which we could certainly kick around in a different full segment at some point, is to say that I'm very excited about what's going down in Vegas this week and our friend Sam Sage, who lives in

London. He's been on twice with us, is a hilariously entertaining guy, including I just listened to a podcast that they came to Austin for that F one race, and just last night I was going to bed listening to another podcast and they randomly brought up I'm not doing the British accent, but they're like, oh, I miss Austin, I miss Heb Hebb. Yeah.

Did they know what they were saying. No, They're like us, everything's a joke and they're like, ah, hebbb, we miss Hebb so much because they fell in love with he What do they have over there, like I have publics or what is it called publics is Florida? Yeah, that's right. Yeah, bring them on. Yeah, screw it. We got no KT trying to keep us on on the rails. Today. We got a caller. He's got something to say, Yo, Yo, what's up. How y'all doing guys? As Jose, how are you today? We're

doing good? No? Good man, good? Hey. I just wanted to kind of pitch in a little bit of on the whole topic, is that the sad thing is that a lot of times, we don't do stuff until something tragic happens to us. Right. So I was talking to someone and I was like, Hey, I'm living my life like I have a terminal illness and I don't. Right. So, yeah, I went through I went through a divorce and a few years ago, and and now what I do and if I want to go to a YouTube concert because because I

want to go to this here I do. You know, my birthday, I go to a Cops Cops game at Wrigley And you know, you usually think, so it's sad that something bad had to happen for us to start doing that. Yeah, perhaps to trigger that reality. And we do get stuck in ruts. I think in the lives we're not to say stuck in, but some of us find ourselves stuck in. But like JJ brought up,

there's financial limitations to that. I mean, I you know, there are people who would be like, God, I could use a trip to see you two at the sphere, but you know, with hotels and everything's like, what are you just gonna gut yourself? Like it's unfortunate that that's the case. Yeah, And you know I called a while a while back,

and I talk to you guys about growing up in Mexico. But the difference here in that you is that I see all the time is that if I want to go to a YouTube concert and I'm broke, I can sign up and drive over for a day and make two three hundred dollars, right, And so there's ways to do it. But a lot of times we'll admit ourselves and go, oh no, I'm too tired. I don't want

to do this, I don't want to do that. But man, hearing that you is is the contur of opportunities that you can do whatever you want. Really now, it's good to hear you say that, and you're right, And I think generally speaking, don't within reason, don't let the finances be a reason you don't do these things, and take it. Take your opportunities, especially if one presents themselves. You know, somebody invites you with a ticket to you two and you're like, how am I gonna get a

hotel? And all this generally go man, we're gonna keep our head downs, we're gonna work, and no one's coming to your house too, I mean, probably to kick you out of the thing, and you know, pack a backpack and you know, like you're generally gonna be able to piece this all this thing together and get by. So I think, say yes something for free too, Like you can go and get kicked out of Arby's for free, We gotta go. You clearly hit a nerve. We really

have to. All right, due thanks for having in all right, But we were talking, you and I were talking about this. I give this last week. It was all a big set up. Just to be clear. It's one Arby's, Yeah, Spring Valley and uh Montfort. We were talking to you and I were talking about this. It's like the hesitation to do something when it comes to, oh should I spend two hundred dollars on this? I don't know. I don't think we know, like any of

our friends. The point is is somehow you always figure it out. Yeah, you know, we always somehow figure it out. I don't really think I have anybody in my either close circle of friends or in the next periphery of friends that are at risk no matter what they decide of living under a bridge. You always figure it out, Yes, we do. But everyone is different. Yeah, and there's someone listening right now that's on their way to job one of two today, you know, and is just paddling hard

to keep their nose above the water financially. And whether that is because of life circumstances, medical circumstances which unfortunately is an issue oh my god, you know, or things out of their control, you know, or their own poor decisions earlier in life, you know that put them in some sort of debt that they can't get themselves out of, which is not really easy to get out of that hole once you dig it. You know, it's different

for everyone, so it's easy. That's why I say generally, generally seize opportunities when they present themselves to you and enjoy the hell out of this one ride the best you can within your means. Right, But that might be a the guy who or girl is going to job one of two is like,

all right, hippies, Yeah that sounds great. Yeah, but it's relative to you enjoy a damn second hamburger for dinner tonight or an extra helping of Panburger partner, you know, which is that that's the knockoff Hamburger helper that got me through college. That's a thing. Yeah, Panburger partner, absolutely stop it, so help me Handburger partner. Yes, you know that

sounds like something Story Industries would come up with, don't you. You know what, me standing in the isle in Arizona and selecting the Pamburger Partner over Hamburger Helper might have been the inception of Sarroy Industry. How much did you save? Honestly, like twenty cents probably, but you know what, it made a difference. Yes, yeah, every box of Panburger park, right, I've never heard of that really, Yeah, trust me, it's real. They even have a little logo. I don't know if it's a fingerless

glove or whatever. The equivalent your Hamburger Panburger partner is a fist with brass knuckles. Yeah, exactly, just knocking you in the knocking you in the wallet. Boy, they didn't even have a Yeah, look at that. It's real Pamburger partner. Holy correct. If you don't want to go premium college Panburger partner, I thought that was commonplace. But yes, Henry Helper used to be pretty cheap, too, pretty cheap dollar or something about.

Yeah, yeah, probably it's probably like three bucks or three fifty or four. Now, yeah, everything is. You've been in the grocery store lately, by god, they basically should charge a fifty dollars cover just to walk in the damn place, because it's gonna cost you cover charge at grocery store. I don't care. If you go to Tom Thumb or wherever for one item, you're going to leave and the minimum you spend is going to be fifty bucks. I don't know. Yeah, it seems like unbelievable how expensive

food is right now? Yeah, all right, let's let's lightning fast hittings. We got a break event tonight. I want to tell you we don't even need to play the theme no, right, should we? I don't care hit the theme bias thirty seconds thirty second counts. Yea, the most important thing in the world. I'm gonna let you kind of take it,

and I've I have twisted your arm to hit this hard right now. But this is a pretty significant night tomorrow night for you, some of your closest friends and your I don't even want to say former band, and I don't know how to say it, but the Bastards of Soul, a band that I saw on a timeline on social media, played its first gig just a little over six years ago at Twilight Lounge and Deep Ellen, and it was

a band formed about seven years ago a group of friends of mine. We got together and decided, you know what, let's play some damn soul music. Let's learn how to play soul music. So we kind of jumped in that world and really busted our asses. And I don't even know if we hit the mark and got really good at it, but we got good enough at it. We put out a couple records, and unfortunately, two years

ago our singer Chadwick Murray passed away. He had a rare lung disease that was undetected and undiagnosed until after he had passed away, spent a couple of weeks in the hospital on life support, and finally succumbed to this horrible thing.

And anyway, in the years the two years that have followed, we had some unfinished material that we decided to go ahead and release a couple of new songs that we had to actually record with some guest vocalists representing Chadwick, and then some stuff that we had never released before, some stuff that we had released that we added an orchestra to. You know, a song that was on our first record that we ended up getting seth Applebaum from Ghost Funk

Orchestra in New York to remix for us. It's really cool. Anyway, The album comes out to tomorrow tonight at midnight digitally and then in record stores tomorrow. It's called Give It Right Back, our third and final release, and we are having a little throwdown tomorrow night at Alamo Drafthouse Sedars Friday, November seventeenth, twenty twenty three at Alamo Drafthouse Seaters. Now what this is

going to be? Oh, I forgot to mention. During our run, we were lucky enough to have a filmmaker kind of follow us around at certain times and shoot us. And he was good friends with Chadwick. I named Paul Levatino, really good friends with Chadwick. They went to high school together.

And he's a filmmaker and so he's got all this footage and he has put together a documentary film on the band on Chadwick, On the Life of Chadwick Murray, And we're going to show some unreleased footage from this upcoming documentary that's going to come out I think maybe late this later this year, sometime early next year. It's it's being entered into festivals south by Southwest and they're looking for acceptance into all these film festivals. But that is going to be

parts of that film. Some clips from that are going to be shown tomorrow night and it's at the Alamo Draft House theaters. There's going to be two screenings, one at seven pm and one at nine and you can choose which one to go to. It's only twelve bucks to get in. We'll have the brand new vinyl and CDs. We actually press CDs really because maybe what we were talking about the DVDs and CDs making a bit of a comeback. It's crazy to even think that. But we'll have those and other merch available.

So if you want to be one of the first to pick up the new record, give it right back by Bos. Tomorrow is a great, great time to do it at the Cedars at a Cedars Alamo Draft House tomorrow night, seven o'clock at nine o'clock, two screenings. Now almost just this is almost a party. Yeah, it's like it's an album release part viewing. But you guys are all going to be there. Most of the people from here from ninety seven on of the Freak, you're gonna be there.

I mean I'm certainly gonna be there with Christina brother Cash is going. I mean, this is kind of going to be a party. Just come hang out, have a drink, have a few drinks. There's a DJ, DJ Double Peas is spinning from Vegas. I think, heck yeah, man, I'm really looking forward tomorrow night and midnight tonight. I've seen a bunch of people showing their pre order click. I've seen the online nice which is

very sweet. But dude, I've been dying to see this thing. And I know it's gonna be real, like emotional and everything like that, but well it's gonna be heavy, man, because you know Chadwick. He passed away September first, I believe, of twenty twenty one, and I believe about five or seven days prior, and he was in a coma pretty much the damn near the entire time of his hospital stay of around two weeks,

two or three weeks. His first child was born in the same hospital as he was being treated in for his his lung his lung malfunction, his lung disease, and he never consciously got to meet his son and his wife and uh two year old son. My gosh, I can't believe Lennox is two years old. They're they're going to be there. It's gonna be I want to hug absolutely the coolest little kid that you've ever seen in your life. Chill a f Yeah, super cool kid, very fashionable too. Oh god,

no doubt. Oh he's a little pimp. He's awesome. But uh, it's good. It's gonna be heavy, but I'm I also think that because of the nature of the event and the people that are going to be there, I fully expect there to be some some rays of of sunshine that are going to hopefully penetrate what will otherwise, you know, be I don't

think it's going to be a somber downer the whole time. There'll be moments that we see in the clips from the film that are going to be incredibly heavy and incredibly h heart wrenching, but it's hopefully going to be in a good spirit of uplifted, uplifting spirit and positivity and for just kind of everything that Chadwick achieved in his life, Yeah, which was a lot. I

can't wait. I know bastards Oftsoul dot com has tickets. I think Alamo Draft House has tickets as well, right now on your website's showing only the seven pm show with tickets available, So yeah, man, seek those out, come hang out. There's gonna be tons of Rollertown beer, Bassard's of Soul Merch, which is just badass. Get yourself a shirt if you hate the band. The shirts are awesome and you look cool wearing it, even if you don't listen to this stuff. But yeah, it's an Alamo Draft

House in the seaters screening seven o'clock and nine o'clock. You're gonna be there for probably both of them'll early and as is most of the people that work here and pretty much all the bands. So tomorrow night and midnight tonight the album release. Do you stay up and like refresh the will know but nope, and it says one sold. Well, I will you wake up check it? I'll I'll wake up in the morning and check the digital streaming platforms

to make sure it actually went through. Yeah, because they drop right at midnight on all the you know, the Apple Music's and iHeart app and Spotify's and all those. So yeah, it drops tonight at midnight. Give it right back, Give it right back. It's a cool record, man, I love this album so much. I can't wait. I can't wait here. We're going let's play Return Cut next, at least of the one single that's out there, maybe a couple other hidden gems, right, yep,

we'll do it all right. Coming up next Sports at seven, I don't know, man, probably the Cowboys. You want to do that. We had a big MAVs win, Cowboys offense as a cooking Lucas comments. He's got some pretty inflammatory comments about the nd season tournament court conditions. I love it. We'll dig in next on ninety seven on the Free
