You're listening to the downbeat on ninety seven to one the freak thirty minutes away from the scuttle butt, RA will go ahead and tell you guys a little bit of a warning for something coming up, and also the first sighting of this in the spring. Plus in an hour, we're gonna get to a bit of a deep dive. I want to actually do the cubby hole. I want to call it the cubby hole. Bring it back. I'm done a long time about something that's going on in the skies and why it's weird,

it's incestual, it's all strange. Eight o'clock, I think this Morning News eight thirty. We're in to a draft at nine for a TV show that's back tonight. Cavn's making us do another draft. It's gonna be odd. I don't have one. I'll figure that out till nine o'clock. Yet, at nine o'clock, I have so many questions about this. Well, why weren't they asked last night? Well, because I figured I could answer them myself by doing a little research. No one wants to do research.

Though I failed at research. I new researching. I don't know anything about this show, Okay, that's what's outstanding. That okay, but it's the most popular show in the world one of them. Yeah, yes, okay, Draft nine and well I activate the listeners to text in. You can take part in the draft to say, just pick your ten weirdest responses and activate the randomizer or if once we can, I'm open activating any and all randomizers. Can we activate the randomizer for sports? Yes? Can we do

that right now? We should do it now? Is Rob Low here? Would you freak out? Ah? I'd freak out more of Rob Low walk in here? What would you do to be like, oh my god, it's Rob Low. Holy what are you doing here? Freak out? Yeah? I would drink out. You'd freak out if Rob Low walked in, I think you'd be unexpectedly Yeah, but freak out. I would would. I wouldn't even I'd stand up. I guess Holy crap, Rob Low, Way, God, it's Rob Low. Have a c man. Yeah,

I think it would be. It would be so surprising. We'll find you some headphones. It would be shocking right there right there. So if Rob Low, if you're listening and you want to pop in, we will accommodate you like a true gentleman. I saw another article about John ham It wasn't more locations, but it was just more the fact that he's going to be here for a few months among us. Oh there's more locations. What he ordered at a custard place is an article. We could get John Hamm on

the show. Thanks. I mean, that says you know, and I think you might want it like to do. He's like, screw it, man, it's gonna be cool for an actor like I'm gonna go live in Dallas tech or Fort Worth, Texas for three months or whatever. I don't know. It takes a shoot show, I think when it's their job. Though they viewed as I'd rather be at home. No, I know, Oh yeah, but it's exciting and then a trial of food, and I mean he seems to be it was having fun in the pictures that look like

with his wife. Well yeah, he wasn't gonna look like he was hating every minute of his existence as a vintage shop. I'd freak out more if freaking Don Draper were sitting across from me more than I would if Rob Low was. If Don Draper walking there in a full Madman's suit, if he came in here in his suit. I wouldn't be able to contain myself. Really, yes, he'd start cranking Rod. He's one of my favorite characters of all time. Don Draper, I love that show so much. What

if Polly Walnuts walked in? We have a real story on our hands, Mikey, a real story Paulie Walnuts. No, it's not Polly Wants It's it's Mike Fisher. Oh no, damn it. I couldn't lock the door quick enough if I saw him meafing around out in the hallway. I have an email for John Ham's publicist. Okay, I'm not gonna send it. Seems like a lot of work. BAV's lost you click send love emails. No, you burn like a half a calorie by the burnout reel. Someone

just send us a picture of Danny's new driver's license. Oh no, because you said you need a new driver's license. You used to wear his kimono. Oh no, why do they have Danny looking? That is so stupid. He's wearing a kimono, He's got his face all powder, look like a had a little ranger hat on, and the autograph on the bottom is just ding you And you're an organ Donner. Who did that? Who wasted

this morning minutes of their life putting that together? I don't know. It's nine to four to h phone number didn't give Bayless another Uh, Texas, let's pub the s out of the upcoming Saint Patrick's Day Parade. Let's have a huge turnout. Come on, y'all. And I'm like, that's good. I just want to, like, I have no idea for even I know that last year for the Saint Patrick's Day Parade, we learned about three days before the parade happened that we were supposed to be involved. And I

imagine that'll happen again this year. When is it? Is it the Saturday or something next Saturday? A week from Saturday? Yeah, so sixteenth? Or's at ten days away? Fifteen sixteenth, something like that. Yeah, yeah, we were on the float. We you guys, you weren't there? Were you? I was there. I was in a golf tournament out of town. I was there representing the station in iHeartMedia and the float you said iHeart Media on it, didn't say the freak. No. Looks like

y'all had a great time though. It's pretty fun. I mean, the traffic's a whipping and getting out of there, my god, peeing, Oh impossibly. Yeah, but throwing stuff at people who just want can they want action stuff? You really do, truly feel like you own the world. When you're on one of those floats. You got a box of beads. People are freaking out. The power dynamic is real. You can get high off that power. Power about Danny. People want you, they want you.

You are really somebody when you're on a float. It is It's true. You can be anyone on a float. It's a moment where you really are someone. Well, Kevin, okay. They responded to my text, Well, Kevin, we've got some time. Let's figure it out. You figure it out. Then, I have nothing. I have no power. I have nothing. I do what I'm told. Well, we went last year, so now you two have to go this year and on us I went the year before that. Yeah, that's probably not gonna happen. Some

guy just said Rob Low would eat you guys's lunch. He would, He really wouldn't. I think it's wild you guys thinking like you wouldn't have an ass. You guys would have a wild reaction that you've never had. Probably if Rob Low unexpectedly walked in. I don't think so. I don't think you'd be able to play it cool. I could play it cool with Rob Low, not John Ham. I should the surprise factor. I'd be surprised. I'd be like, oh my god, hey, there he is,

Rob Low, and I would stand up to shake his hand. I guess, but I wouldn't be hands shaking Jesus. All right, you get a minute. I'd ask him if he's here to eat my lunch. Rob Low would eat you guys's lunch. He walks, are you guys who like the floor? And where the three? I don't know. Okay, So you're gonna activate the randomizer for sports? Oh yeah, I forgot got almighty. What sport are we going to talk about? Let's act? Oh sorry,

Harry, let's activate the randomizer. It's gonna kill a minute. It's a jam. What instrument is that? Is it an instrument? It's a violin? Okay, I'm choosing. I'm choosing Rangers. Damn it, hit it again, weird because we did them some maths earlier. We'll do it a minute though. The Rangers in spring training, so no one really cares that much yet. But I saw something yesterday and it did pique my attention. First of all, the other day why att Langford and two home runs in

a game? And then yesterday that Kevin Carter had two home runs in a game, and there was an article. Did you know that the Rangers have had fifty seven different left fielders and since twenty thirteen? Okay, so fifty seven left fielders since twenty thirteen. Can you name who the leader was in all that time? Since twenty thirteen? He's twenty thirteen, since David Murphy quit being their left fielder. So they've had a left fielder problem since twenty

thirteen. And it's kind of solved now because I'll tak Evan Carter. Your left fielder now will be Evan Carter. Uh No, And he's played it. He's played it. But I'm talking like the most games in left field since twenty thirteen. Good God, kind of caught me with one foot off the merry go round here tell you kind of a little bit of a Ranger dark period right after the big letdown in eleven. Yeah, is that kind of checked out for a little while, put off the gas a little.

We have initial wounded, licky initial will help I was surprised by this w first name, see last name, Oh Willie Calhoun. There you go. Yeah, okay, and only one hundred and sixty three games the most year two was two yeah, three was gallow. The point is and this whole uh you know thing I was reading was about the idea that it's kind of solved now since twenty thirteen when David Murphy left to go to Cleveland. They have it fixed now. They even ran out Mike Napoli at left field for

a little bit, so I remember that I do. It can only be best described as an experiment when you played with no no jersey, no shirt on, like when you mix vinegar with baking soda in a two liter bottle. So they're gonna have to make a decision on why Langford They could put him there like now, like let him play not left field necessarily probably to play DH Do you have a double still play right field? Leoti is still there to play center. Evan Carter's gonna play left field. But this is

one guy. So Keith Law named White Langford number six on his top one hundred prospects, but another rival scout said this, it took two games to put him in my mount rushmore of best prospects I've ever seen, talking about why at Langford he's number two behind Julio roverie Is of the Mariner. It ain't gonna take long if he continues on this path. It won't take long

for Leotis to be on the bench. And you'll Evan Connor, Evan Carter and center and Langford and left White Langford look like he looks like White Langford exactly what lean and white? He's not lean like that. No, he's not lean like he's bigger, but but he's not big like Josh Young, you know, he's not like Pete and Cavelia. Well, he's got trout face a little bit because I had to hear somebody say he's a trout style and I what a name to throw out there? Okay, yeah, yeah,

but there's more power there, like is he five tool manig? Well, no, it's so the question is a little bit about defense. But every assignment that he had, even in college, like he had gotten better and improved. But he's hitter, pure hitter guy. I wish I could do that, what get better and improve? No, dh it up though, too, and then dullies can date some you don't have to wear any

of these guys out too much. Dude, I don't know they're gonna be good because I don't know if it's the pitching, well will be good, but like going and a clear cut and make the playoff team because I think the pitching is gonna have to be a question until you get guys back in June, July, and August. But that offense is going to do exactly what it did last year. That's beat everyone's brain in. Man. You

I'm not concerned. But this whole thing about wait til the Cavalry arrives with de Gram insureser and you're talking about a guy that's always injured, and and you're talking about another dude that's forty and at the end of his career. I don't know if I look at that as like some big savior situation, you better just be good with what you have. Well, that's why I think that Jordan Montgomery was such a big you know, yeah, a priority for them, and we still don't know, We still don't know. It

certainly seems like they're not going to sign him. But how rare is it these days that a dude, because I mean Langford was drafted fourth overall in twenty twenty three. Yeah, that's quite fast tracking. They nearly called him up last year before the playoffs. Is that ever happen nowadays? Or that's a complete rarity, right that you? I mean one year, but and he flew through the minors. Well, they got They got lucky in the

draft too. They did draft lottery for the first ten picks or something instead of you know, to avoid tanking. So they got lucky, got the fourth pick, and I think the team one team took a like a high school shortstop or high school pitcher or something ahead of that maybe wasn't exactly projected, and he fell in their lap. I mean, they got really lucky

with him. But then once he finally like he took a couple weeks off, went to the miners and he started high a and just started mashing, and they're like, okay, well he's hitting everything right now and we need to win games. Maybe we'll call him up. They nearly did it. Yeah, that was the Paul Skeans one. And I saw, yeah he was the one one. Didn't he hit like one O three on the on the gun this week? I saw he was the pirates. I saw a clip of him pitching the other day. Yeah, it was Paul Skans.

Then Dylan Cruz. That dude, whoever that is, he's going to be a great major league player. That name. These are great names, Dylan Cruz and Max Clark. Those are people who get voted for. Those dudes belong in the big leagues, as does Wyatt Langford. Hell Walter Jenkins went fifth. Oh my god, big leaguer. Jacob Wilson, Yes, Jacob Wilson's good about Rhett Louder. Yeah, is Walter j outfielder. Brett Louder

sounds like a catcher, Htt Louder, he's a pitcher. Blake Mitchell golf these are Yeah, that's not like golfer, but that's not like a baseball player too. These are dudes you'd invent in a video game. If they didn't sign the nil deal, John Dowd, you'd invent Blake Mitchell John Dowd exactly. Was that Barry Bonds? Uh, Yes, that's a there's a fake John Dowd. Now in the college football game, Arch Manning, who

has opted out of NCAA football. Tommy Troy shortstop, of course he is these These are good Tommy Troy, that's dumb diamondback shortstop twelve pick overall anyway, go why at language? Yeah, so pretty much everyone opted in like they have over ten thousand. Maybe it was one hundred thousand. Either way, multiples of thousands of players have opted into the college football game to take

their six hundred dollars in free copy of the game. Arch Manning the backup ates said no, I'm going to focus on my focus on my career. He don't need your six hundred bucks. So he's not doing it. And it's like there, don't be a jerk be in the game. Just you don't have to do anything. They will create you put your jersey on, don't say no, you're the backup at Texas. Who cares? It was interesting? So he's not. He doesn't have to explain himself to you.

Kevin, No, he doesn't. I just think it's why be lame. Maybe he doesn't think it's lame. Well, you'll never be a special guest on the Manning cast. Sucks for you, Bud, and then back more MAVs. I'm with you, Mike. I try to be measured. I

don't think you should know. It's one of my big pet Peeves is when people go with the wind blows with sports, when they play multiple games like this eighty two games, one hundred and sixty two in baseball and people, oh, they're good, they're bad now, they're good, now, they're bad now, you get a pretty good over arching opinion of things. Ank themvs would go destroy Minnesota. I think they'd go destroy Oklahoma City in the

playoffs. I also think they would get destroyed by Denver. They wo'd get destroyed by the Clippers. And I think in a play in situation with Golden State or the Lakers, I don't love that. If you don't make it out of the back four or whatever, if you get into the top six, you'll probably get a Minnesota or Oklahoma City type. I think the MAVs gonna win that. But like you start talking about some of those better teams, No, I don't think they're there yet. I absolutely don't think that.

I think they can add to this next season. I think they will have decisions to make with the head coach. But one thing that I would I just wanted to keep in mind here because Bevericks were always going to give up a lot of points. Last night, the Patris score a ton that Pacers aren't a great defensive team either, okay, or they hustled, they're not a great defensive team. But on them, you know, if we had some guys hit some shots, then you know it looks a little better

for us. You know, MAXI didn't play very well last night. Josh Green did not play well again. Tim Hardaway only played twelve minutes, was bad again. But like the decision was made that we're going to be fast, we're going to run. Remember that, Well, when that happens, guess what happens. The other team gets more possessions, more chances at points, The points go up. I'm not telling you the MAVs defense needs any

excuses. I'm telling you their stats were all ways. Is gonna be worse when you made a decision to not hold the ball for twenty four seconds every time, and they did make that decision. So their way to win games is to outrun people and outscore people, and they didn't do it last night. And that's what this is all gonna come down to. Josh Green has been bad for about a week and a half. Tim Hardaway's been bad for about two weeks, and until that gets settled, They're not gonna win games

because those guys making shots and PJ. Washington making shots and Maxi making shots in the playoffs is gonna be the difference in you winning series. We know what you're gonna get out of Luke and Kyrie. Yeah, I mean, not anywhere close to burning my MAVs hoodie and a and a homeless person fire. I will say this about the Pacers, and I've seen much like probably everybody else around here has seen two Pacers games this year, and they're both

against the MAVs. And if you want to base your opinion on that team on those two games, nobody wants to play them in the East. That team is effing scary. And I don't know if it's just a matchup thing or if Carlisle's just got kids number of it, but dude, that's a legit team. Well if they are what they are from what I've seen, and what are they over their second They are deep. They are so deep

they're long, they can shoot you out of the gym. And I disagree with defense because if defense is effort and effort is defense, they had it. Those guys play max defense on every possession from the beginning of the game all the way through the fourth quarter, at least what I saw MAVs show flashes. There were some like a handful of possessions last night where the MAVs played such good defense, ran them to the end of the shot clock,

made them take bad shots. But it seems like Indiana does that on every damn possession. They played tough d Pacers tweeted out their official account. First team to have nine players scoring double figures in an NBA game this season was the Pacers last night. Nine different dudes. They are not top heavy like we are, and we got some dudes that. Okay, here's a question.

Do we think Gafford might should start ahead of Lively? Maybe? And yeah, it's a weird day to ask that question when Lively played sixteen minutes and has zero points in one rebound. Yeah, he was invisible and not whatever. I think Lively is mature enough to handle it, you know. I don't think he's a fragile rookie that would crumble if you change his role a little bit. And Gafford in twenty one minutes had sixteen and ten and

three blocks like active professional man. The Gafford really showed up when it was already too late, Like, but he was the only thing in the back half of that fourth quarter that gave the MAVs any amount of life at all was Danny gafferd you just feel like he looks like a starter and Lively has you know, if Luca's not setting him up for Ali Oops, the Tasers dictated that a lot less. Yeah, no, I'm not. I love

Lively, we all love Lively, but I don't know. It feels almost like a forced experiment of of have you know, you don't have him rolling and dunking, which I love, but Gaffer's like kind of a no show two days ago. It's almost like they alternate, like the Lively and Gafford

getting both of you giving like good performances. Has it like landed on the same game yet, like because Gaffer was a no show the other that was a Philadelphia or the Boston game, like Gafford wasn't didn't do much in that game, So you know, I don't know, but I think anything it's like I think it's like just he's like, let's simplify things, Like there's so many times when a guy would just get in the paint and either no one would get in front of him, or the entire defense collapses on him

and you kick it out to an open guy. There were more open guys last night than actually in a long time, and they're knocking down shots. It's over. They shot sixty percent in the first half. Yeah, you know, and the map shot thirty three percent from three. I mean, we always say it make three win game. So having Boston the other night, they came out, couldn't hit a shot where I'm able to keep it close because you just weren't connected that much and your defense can't be relied on

to get a ton of stops. It's not what they are right now. Right, it might be what they can become over time. I don't know how you get there. Might be the playoffs maybe, but yeah, right now, I mean, I think the questions about just kid are fair. They've been fair. But get out of it. Win five game. See

where you're at. I don't even know what to say. You felt good about this thing ten days ago, right, because it'll look like all cylinders firing after that trade, and now it looks like they're a bag of turds. Let's go beat the heat tomorrow night. All right, Okay, all right, guys, we have our first sighting of this of the spring next to ninety seven won the Freak
