It's the downbeat on ninety seven one with the tree. I uh got confirmation Sportspot at M will join us live in studio at nine. Yeah, he saw the eighteen wheeler dropping them off. Yeah, wheeling out the back. They're trying to make room down in the iHeart Building loading dock. He used to come in through there, and he's got a couple of hours, right,
Yeah, plenty of time. But when he walks in, is it going to mess up the renovation they're doing on the other side of the Bible to go straight through all that plastic, Yeah, ram in all the half done construction. He doesn't care. He's a robot. Any robots don't care about you, no matter what they programmed them to think. A wake of destruction, chaos behind him. Yeah, well, whatever means he takes to get inside the studio, it's always a wild ride. It's right, it's
correct. He asked me to have a banana ready for him too, Danny, so if he could just have yours, I forgot to stop and pick one out Sports Spot. We'll have to make alternative breakfast decisions because banana will be gone at the end of this segment. Is that banana still good. Is that right on the end? Is that Oh, this is the perfect time for banana? Yeah, that's when you want it. It hasn't reached mash it up and make banana bread out of it yet. It's this is
perfect. Still got some firmness, not too squishy, but the flavor. Do you think that's perfect? Yeah, that's not perfect. This is perfect. That's about a one day past perfect. I would think this is well above sixty two percent firmness. Mikey, I need some Instagram engagement, So I'm going to be taking a picture of that and posting a poll. Is that the perfect banana? Okay? Yeah? And you're gonna have to face the music, yeah, alright, to get ready to hold that banana up
to your mouth later. Yeah. Okay. So guys, that Bert Kreischer giveaway nine point thirty our friend, good friend who joined us six months ago on the air. I think he remembers absolutely he does not, No, you know a clue who he are. But he's gonna be in town. We have tickets all week nine thirty five. If you want a chance at that, you can call her text in two and four uh eight one seven seven eight seven one nine seven one those are all the number that's too many
numbers. He would remember us, Oh he would not. We made an impact on the life of Bert. We did, so he forgot ten minutes after the phone. That smokes weed man. We're talking about as a party guy. He's a weed head. I don't think he's I don't think he goes as hard as he tries to make everybody believe he did in college. No way. Yeah, but currently he might get hard in the weight room. No, he doesn't do that either. You have big arms. He's
kind of a bear jeans, Yeah, da yeah, maybe genetics. That was two sports seven seven Kevin, Kevin, let's go now sports at Jerry's hanging out on the Combine bus, which is a good place to hang out with Jerry. Have a Miller light. Uh. Javanall claims he invented the drinking with Jerry on the bus, and I believe him. I mean, it definitely happened with Jeff. And then the next year I did it. I went on get a Miller light illegally, as I wore an NFL network
hat. You're only supposed to have one person from each outlet, so I just threw on an NFL network hat On walked on. No one said anything. It was great. I really don't care. They really don't. You went in with Kavanaugh and we had Miller lights. It was good. At the end of the interview you had Miller lights. Or like, when you go on the bus, how does it work? You hear the front of the bus with the little couch area is yeah, you're there's the couch and
Jerry's in his comfortable seat. Does he have his own seat? Is a swivel rotating seat? Very it appears to be rotating. Yes, I there are lots of moving around. It looked very comfortable. I love a nice high end bus. No, they're buss is great. It's so good. I've only been on that bus once. I mean, Jerry wasn't on it, but it was after it was in La ox Nard. I guess after the media party we came back to camp dragging you back to the bus.
No, he wasn't there, but Stephen was. It was like three in the morning, and somehow it was me and some of the guys from GOSH. I think it was like me and Corby and maybe No, this was an ox Nard and we ended up on that bus late at night, like about three in the morning, busting rails Loshed just eating slices of pizza with Stephen Jones three in the morning. That's good. I don't remember much about it at all. I remember the pizza more than I do the conversation because
I was hungies. Why like, why is that? I don't know, just a bizarre franchise. That's cool, and I think they're probably normal kind of cool. Yeah they are. I mean that kind of problem like us if we accidentally farted on to billions of dollars and it was so strong and powerful that even we couldn't f it up. I think the their approach that
to. I think there's a mutual kind of of respect because a lot of that stuff that the conversations that you hear, and I've been in earshot of some of those conversations with Jerry, that that if you printed the things that he's saying, you would make national headlines. But there's that trust of off the record, and I think that the Dallas media for Worth media kind of
really adheres to that. When it's Jerry having Jerry fun and talking and saying wild stuff, they know not to they know not to go with that. Here's a media party. Come eat it one of the nicest places. Yeah, I'm paying for all of it. Get hammered, doesn't matter. Now. Why would everybody screw me? Yeah? Yeah? With all the people nowadays dying to make a name and get your retweets or whatever, the most important thing is why would Why wouldn't someone violate that? Does he say is
off the record? No, he doesn't say that, And I think it's just a strange, good old boy understood Texas cowboy way you do it. What what goes under your hat stays under your hat, partner, not that mentality wild? Does it used to be either? That's not okay with Todd Archer and John Michauda and Clarence Hill. Totally dude, But that the things that I'm describing happened twenty years Yeah. No, no, exactly. Yeah, but I mean, first question on the bus is this? Uh?
J creat me up? Please? There was a ruming that they asked me to take a return and test any comment on that. I don't those are as. Turns out those legal matters and can't talk about them right now to some degree. But that'll work through, and I expect much perceived better news in the future. Expect must perceive better news in the future. Song is a country song that's amazing. That's one of the new country songs on Beyonce's
new country album that much perceived better news interviews in the future amazing. And this is this example of him kind of working the media because he says something, damn, I might not catching like enormy by surprise here, but he understands that he stepped in it, and he asked them not to print it. We'll see. We're going to be working on his contracts as we get into the future, I mean get into the future days of this coming year and what we do there, don't do I couldn't say at this time.
But the main thing is that he's going to be our quarterback this year. Say this year that it's still understood. I don't want to take that ye that Okay, I shouldn't have said this year he's gonna be our quarterback. Okay, Okay, since we're since we're all friends here, take this year off. Okay. I've got my mind. I've got my mind all in Okay, all right, Danny, you need to write country songs with just Jerry quotes. It's funny that you mentioned that my mind. I've got my
mind all in. If you transcribe that, it's beautiful and send me that all those passages from Jerry on the Bus. Okay, and we do an album Jerry on the Bus. I'll do the name of the single will be Jerry on the Bus, and I will do a beautiful rendition of the weirdest country song you've ever heard. I don't know if you guys saw this video went viral of was it Jason Isbel That was on the Daily Show recently, I don't know, And he did a country or a folk song that was
just Fox News headlines and it was really funny. Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, his visiting the border, I mean like that, all that kind of just crazy wild Fox News headlines and he did a country song on it. It was really good, like well, well constructed tune. But you want to talk about a wheels off tune. Jerry on the Bus, dude, we're doing that. When I say we, I mean you're gonna go home and do it. I'm just do nothing and you'll just collect the
royalty checks and then yeah, that's my manager. That's how teams work, right. We play that one again Kevio because great. At the beginning, he said something that sounded like a country album title. Still understood. I don't want to take that. Ye okay, I shouldn't have said this year he's going to be our quarterbacks before at the very beginning, we'll see we're going to be working on his contract. As we get into the future, I mean get into the future days of this coming year. There you get
the future day this year year. That could be the album titled the Future Days of this coming Years of this coming year Days coming out later this year. Yeah, incredible. This is the whole all end thing that's been getting a bunch of headlines. Your definition of what is all in and mine might not be the same thing. But I'm trying to win the game this year. I mean that's a lyric. What with my decision? So I'm all into this year? How is that different in past year because you've always been
trying to win games this year? Theoretically, Oh, I've drafted quarterbacks for the future. Would be reluctant to do that this year. That's an example, right, if you had an opportunity there, you are twenty four greatest thing since ice creams. He's sitting there. I'd be reluctant to do that this year. Let's call all into this year. Some Caleb Williams is there at twenty four because something came out about allegation you wouldn't take him at twenty
four. He said, Now we didn't even talk at the tyrants fid thing. I'm already irritated by this all in angle. Yeah, and they're going to embrace it because it's just something he threw what through out there a few months ago, and now it's already everything all in, all in, and then they're gonna have f and T shirts and all this all in all in, everyone's not gonna work. And he's like, we need to slow It was mostly in. Yeah, how about that? I was gonna buy mostly
in. Yeah, we're in. We'll see what happens. We'll see how some camp goes partially in half way in. Uh so, Mike Zimmer did you'll know Mike Zimmer only signed a one year contract. That's weird on a one year deal. Zimmer is on a one year technical deal, but not necessarily were just for one year. His contractor is one year. I was having your assistance all on a one year deal they're not all on one year
deals. I mean, I love him in the world. Amazing. You must walk out of that bus, obviously slightly buzzed from the four Miller lights you had, but also your head is just like bees and flies just spinning around it like a cartoon. That process. He just mires everything in such a murky cloud of useless words. Okay, it's a soup, so what it's It's insane, but you have any This is the this is the highlight for me. Oh, there's better. They asked about Layton Vanderish and late
vanders He's why I think I heard this. I don't know if it's true. I heard that late in the year he like had because he's free agent now right that like we're talking about issues, sensitivity issues, feeling feeling your like hands and things like that. Right feel it's his neck, Okay, stenosis or whatever it's called. So he gets asked about that, and I
think Jerry doesn't want to say because Jerry buy doesn't know. If you're Layton van Rash and you're going to retire, it would make more sense for Layton van Rash to retire this summer because there is a I believe it that he would hit the pension at that point. So that's something to kind of watch if they if he still wants to play, I guess they could sign him and bring him back. The point is Jerry's uncomfortable talking about Layton van de
Resh because Layton Vanders has serious health issues with his neck. Okay, and I don't know that it's I don't know if it's fixable. I think he's done forever. But listen to Jerry and try to navigate this. This is a struggle. Understand that we've got a something of of a as far as his career is concerned. His career, it's a it's not it's divorced from my mind. It's divorced from a decision of football. What in the world
it's divorced from my mind. I'll give him that that one. Only that it's because I think he's retiring and they know it, but they don't want to say it. That's why last time Steven or somebody was like, you know, I think that's for latent to tell you his plans whatever. And yes, you're probably right. I didn't know the pension thing kicked in this summer. I believe that's the number had something to do with his contract, and or you make what you can get paid for, but it's get something
to do. There's a if he was going to quit, announcing it before June or doing it before June would not make sense for him financially. I'd like to hear that clip with all of this, the silence ands deleted, just to see if that sentence made a damn bit of of you promise. You probably didn't. But divorced, I said, divorced. It's divorced from my mind. It's divorced from a decision of football that was the hell of
a football for a reason. Here's once it's a little strange here. This like a weird story to in a weird tangent about Zimmer being kind of a hard ass and providing accountability. I'll never forget. I may have told you guys, but I had a coach who was beloved, and we stunk it up and I did and against Mississippi. We came home and we were at Fedville in a team meeting, and Steven was about a year old, and so this coach wrecks me over Coles and the meeting in front of the whole
team a bunch meetings over. I go out in the hall and he comes out and said, Jerry high Stephen. I said, what coach? He said, hi's Stephen. I said, Steven, Arry, How could you even ask me about Steven? You've made me there's a crawling out of the desk in there. Don't you ask me if we don't give it about Steven. A boy goes, oh, Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, you're missing it. You missing it? Son. He said, I know more important you than anything in the world is to be a football player. I know
that, and I'm trying to help you be that. I love you and I do love see. And then of course the guy later on when I got in business, I went in business with him, same guy. Uh, it was insurance. Okay, twist, What a weird twist there? Yeah, a heartpelt a heartfelt note. I actually insurance for insurance. That's insane. Now, Travis Kelsey's doing his podcast right, and he's hanging out with his brother Jason, and he told the story about when he interviewed with
the Cowboys at the draft in twenty thirteen for context. In the second round of the twenty thirteen draft, the Cowboys selected the late Gavin Escobar, who you guys remember, that was the pick forty seven with Travis kelcey at that point. He went number sixty three, twenty picks later to the Chiefs. So it fell to the first pick of the third round, and Travis had missed a year of football because he got suspended for smoking a lot of weed.
But here's what he says. He told the Cowboys during the draft meeting at the Combine. I had some bad interviews the Cowboys. Hey, we're kind of pressing at the Combine. I had some bad interviews the Cowboys. Hey, we're kind of pressing me about having this red flag of missing a year suspended first season smoking weed. I don't know if I was having a bad morning. I basically was just I don't even know if I want to
say this. It ended really fast. I basically just said, if you guys think I'm gonna be that kind of guy, or you're questioning if I'm still that person after everything that I've battled through to get to where I am now from missing a season, then you guys probably go somewhere else and pick somebody else. And it's exactly what they did. They took your advice. I don't know if I believe that fully. Maybe I do, because I don't think the Cowboys would have been like, oh, you smoke a little
weed. Who cares? That's true? Brandon Gregory two years later and then he drops twenty more slots. Yeah, and I don't even know did he get busted smoking weed to miss a year of college? Yeah? So I mean that does seem like a reasonable thing to bring up in a pre draft process, and I doubt the Cowboys were the only ones to do it where he had to get defense of, like how dare you even ask about that? It's like, well, you are in college, we're trying to consider
drafting you right now. And zick at that point, as he was not a first pick, He's not the Travis Kelcey we know today. He was a guy who got picked in the third round. Man, he thought he would get picked in the second round. Yeah, you're not going in from a leverage standpoint and go and move on like, I don't maybe maybe he didn't you know, but right eleven years later, Yeah, although I didn't know, I didn't even know he was a third rounder, Yeah, picked
after Gavin Escobar. See, what are the tight ends, Vance McDonald to the forty nine ers. That was the other one, Gavin to the Cowboys. Yeah, zach Ertz was a late second rounder to the Eagles, and I think Tyler if Yeah, Tyler Eifert that year was the only first round tight end to the Bengals and that's it. He was the fifth tight end. Takeing Okay, what I don't know. That's kind of fun to think about. If they took they needed one Kelsey instead of Gavin Escobar. Yeah,
was Kelsey a hit right off the bat? That's a good question. I don't remember. I know that. I don't remember that either, because I mean it's not like they had my homes. They're probably still in Alex Smith world right there. Yeah, yeah, that's true. Of a pull up his numbers though. Yeah, he only played in one game his rookie year, that's right, no starts, no catches, and then in year
two, Now you might get hurt. I don't know, but year two, sixty seven catches, seventy two, eighty five, eighty three, hundred and three, ninety seven, one, five, ninety three. He's been really good for ten years. But I don't know. I was that was just kind of funny. Tyron Smith is not coming back, it appears, unless he wants to take a massive pay cut. They're moving on. So
this is you know, I think it's good. I just think I hate to be so general, but I just think signing old legacy players to new deals is something that the old cowboys do, and it sure whoever it is whispering like, look, this one's gonna be hard, but we shouldn't do it. Yeah, that feels more like a more modern decision that we're not used to them making. So I think you're always welcome to be a cowboy. If you want to play for cheap right now, you can always come
back and be for super cheap. They will take likely offensive linement at pick twenty four, fix that. Hopefully they hit on that Tyler Smith stays at left guard and you go forward there. That's probably their plan now. But good great career for Tyron. Tyron can quit and be in the Hall of Fame most likely. Maybe think so books there's no better than him in his prime. But I don't know. I'm with you on that. It's like he's a ten game guy right at this point, which Sucks's that's the reality
of it. You have to operate that way. There's a sports We did have Sports Spot FM coming in at nine because we did have some other crazy stuff that happened over the weekend. But coming up next in the scuttle butt, I've got a situation where a Brinks truck driver got pants and irving next to ninety seven won the freak pants got me, You got me? Wait for that, he got me.
