A segment of rants on the Dallas Mavericks and their current struggles, including the media and Luka having some beef

Transcript

Sit down beat. I'm ninety seven to one the free you know, thirty minutes, we'll get the exclusive audio for you. The fourth ISD meeting yesterday that was interrupted by porn. The news has been covering this. I've got a couple of news reports. They're kind of funny to hear, but they did not play the audio for you. I have the audio. I had listener that was actually a part of that committee, was at the meeting, emailed me and said, you were not going to believe this KT and they

sent it to me and it's incredible. Seven thirty five. Don't miss it. Yes, please, Kevin, but right now, let's do this the music and now sports and seven. You know, things look good in the first half, and then the Mavericks found a way to well things look get in the first or Mavericks came out We're knocking down threes, had a good double digit lead for a bit there, and then the Sons came storming back outscored the MAVs by twenty three and the third quarter Sons ended up winning by

twenty three. Kyrie did not play and tough loss at home last night for the MAVs on National TV. There and I couldn't help. But look at the line from the starting lineup, Luca thirty four points and the rest of your starters Grant Williams eight, Derek Jones Junior sixth, Derek Clevely eight, Josh Green eight. Luca needs help. Let's start before we getting a Luca, because we could do that forever. Yep, because we've had Jason Kidd

as a both potential guest and you know, we're dancing with it. We're probably gonna have him soon, assuming he's the Mavericks head coach. Yeah, I know, which we'll get into all that. But one thing I wanted to ask him because if you watch that game, they everyone on that court

was salty. It was really fun and they it doesn't happen very oft in the NBA, but like I was ready for the throwdown, Like it was pretty close to popping off into an actual word swinging fight that would have made national you know, big news, all this stuff, and that's exciting, and that creates a cool, like tense environment. I'm not got old man saying, you know, you gotta hate each other, you know, like

I get it. It's a modern sports We're gonna smile and exchange jerseys and hug after heartbreaking losses for a fan like it's just not what it used to be. But man, every now and again you get those games where there is legit I don't want to say hatred, and maybe that's too strong, but and I wonder what happened in a lot, like did they talk about this or they just know it's Phoenix We're gonna have one of them nights,

because that thing felt different. Grant Williams started at Real early, and now two games in a row or two out of three, he's had a near h dust up with the other team. I mean, if nothing else, I like that he's at least a bit of an enforcer and bulldog type guy and doesn't give a blank Like I like all that. But I wonder if Kid tells him beforehand, like break out of this, you know malaise that I guess you're sort of playing with and fight somebody. Not literally, but

man, it was close to popping off. And that was a very contentious first half, specifically until it got out of hand and then everyone just wanted to go home. Yeah, when Grant Williams got his second technical, that's when I went uh oh, Like when great Williams get is like everything changed real quick, especially that third quarter. They were at the second quarter when the Suns came fighting back, and then the third quarter of the matter just

didn't show up. And I don't know, you have the thing Kyrie missed because of the right thumb sprain. Did you feel better about that game if Luca and Kyrie are in there, Absolutely you do. But I don't know if that makes much of a difference, because the Mavericks weren't getting much help from anywhere else and same problem. First half was fine and then second half it's like what happened? We can't even play a full game anymore. And

I don't know if that's preparation. I don't know, if it's just the lack of physicality. I don't know what it is. There's a lot of questions about this team right now. And your star player is unhappy, so happy that he's chirping with a fan, so unhappy that he's chirping with a fan in the second half and points to the ref to try to get him ejected, and he was. Now reports from the media will tell you that all the guy said was that Luca needs to get onto the treadmill. You

look, you look tired, Luca, get on the treadmill. Hit your ass on the treadmill, now, Luca, very mild as you will hear acceptable if that's all I want. Yeah, And it was a guy who his sons fan. They was sitting behind some of the media members there where they were sitting the Tim McMahon's of the world. Who you will hear here? This is from a postgame. It's you're gonna hear a little Tim mc

mahon. You might hear a little Brad Townsend for the Dallas Morning News, Tim McMahon of ESPN and Luca. And it got a little tense right after the game. Look, what were you frustrated about the second quarter when you get that technical? I know I saw you when you said about the ten. You know that was not a true all that was not the only thing

he said. But I knew you would be the first one to point out something like that, because I'm not gonna say what he said, but I knew you were going to be the first one to put out something like that, So I just saw it. Man. It's just funny. You always seem to be the first one to put some bad stuff about me, first of all, nine percent of stuff I've written about who's been good? Oh,

I don't know. I was sitting two rows behind us, all right, So it was the only thing he was that time he said something. The only thing that was what you reacted to. Yeah, I was hearing the whole first half. Right, Oh, you didn't hear anything. Act you put out something that was just the only thing. But what was the final was the thing. It's not the issue. I'm just seeing you seems to be the first one to always put something bad about me. It's fine,

it's all over. Why did you ask for the fan to be ejected because he was cursing me the whole first half too. Why didn't you ask ejected in the first half, because son ever would eject a fan, they pay for tickets. But I had enough, you know, it's a little bit of frustration. You turned your head and looked over at him after he said that. That's I mean, that's what we saw. Fun the guy the bad guy in the media. Right, it's all right. You fairly portrayed of the media. No, oh, oh a lot there. First

portrayed poorly in the media in Dallas, Texas. Trust me, this is as soft as it'll ever get for you, dude, no matter where you end up. Well, yeah, I agree with that, but then the cowboys say they have it worse than anywhere, and you know, like nothing's like being a Dallas cowboy. I just don't know where the line is between

Dallas media and national meet whatever. Yeah. I was always remember that what English is Luca's fifth language, So anytime there's like that sort of verbal sparring, not to say that he's, you know, bringing a knife to a gunfight, but it's a little unfair for him to eloquently deliver the possible nuance of his anger and all that when you're being teamed up on I guess by

the local media. I'll also say I like Tim McMahon. I think there needs to be more media bulldogs that aren't scared to ask hard questions, and he's one of the few around here, specifically with the Mavericks. The last tough stuff. And when you get embarrassed on National TV, yeah that might be a time when I got some questions that you don't really want to hear.

Third thing, maybe ten minutes is it when between when you leave the floor to when you're on that podium, enough time to look at Twitter, enough time to check Twitter. First thing you jumped out to me, check your social media's look, find out what the story is and bring that to your podium. Because McMahon tweeted a short video of the game and the point where Luca asked for the fan to be removed, and McMahon also included text denoting what the fan said at that time, which was the you look slow

out there, get your ass on a treadmill. Ucas saw that, and he took exception with that is the only thing that you're saying that. He said, I've spent the whole first half. This guy's cursing me out. Now. McMahon didn't deny that. He said, yeah, he was very he was very vocal, or however he phrased that when Lucas said, you know, he was, you know, drawn at me the entire first half,

and I don't want to get a fan thrown out. Well, you did, you know what you did it once the straw broke the camel's back. And I don't think it was what the guy said. I think it's how your team and you personally were performing in the third quarter watching that thing turn into an absolute route and yeah, he was frustrated. So he's Look, he's prone to tantrums. We know what his emotional agility is like, and it ain't great. He's not a measured man when it comes to handling

stuff like that. He's also very very very young. Yeah, but none of this is it's not a good one look for anybody, really, Well, there's a there's a fear I think. I think there's a fear that runs throughout the organization of we can't piss him off. Yeah, and that is where you have to go. Now. I moved my scope more away from Luca usually because whatever happened after the game, Luca is the only one that performed last night. You know, Luca carries this team on his back

to a twenty four and twenty record. He's carried them to that, and he's beat up and he's like he got drilled yesterday. You see the second half he had and one where he got you know, they slapped his arm and it flipped his whole weight over. He lands straight on his COCKSIX. I was like, oh my god, that's you're not getting up from that, And then he did. He gets up and drills the free or actually I think he missed that free throw, but he gets he does get hammered.

Now, I don't know if he gets hammered anymore than other stars, and maybe a style of play, and he's a bruiser and he takes it to the rack, you know, as much as anybody. And I understand his frustration, but good god, dude, it's out of control. The body language is awful, all of his body language. And I don't know if he hates his coach or is fed up with his coach or the franchise.

I mean, this is not looking good at all. And yes, he has reason to we frustrate, especially when you're getting smoked in the second half and you feel like you're the best basketball player in the court and there's nothing you can do. I get all the frustration. One of the national announcements don't know who was yesterday was like, it's not just like he's he yells at bad calls. It's constant. Yeah, there's almost no break from

his reactions to the referees. It's muscle memory for him. It never stops. It is just a simmering, constant anger at everything the referees are doing. And yeah, you get banged with and you got a stupid tech at the end of the His tech came after play in the second quarter, and

the announcers everyone's like, oh God, here it comes. And he just can't stop even their play is walking off the court and and hardaway or somebody tries to grab me and he's like, no, I have to say one more thing and then go ahead and get your tech, which is gonna lead to missing a damn game because of the text that you're mounting. I look, I've never had a dude who's on a team that I liked, and I I love the dude. He's incredible. He's maybe the best athlete this

city's ever seen, like relative to everyone else. Yeah, in the sport, like he's right highest level. But dude, how what do you do? I don't know? And is it there's no one he listens to and is because the whole franchise is so scared of him maybe making a decision. But it's almost like, I'm sure there's a great saying for it. I can't think of him. It's like what you want to happen least everything you do you try to make sure that won't happen, and then everything you do

leads to that exact thing happening, Like you're he's losing it. I will say this, and just a moment ago, I was maybe critical of his emotional agility. Let's put it. Let let's make a relative discussion here, because I think if you put any one of us in his shoes, I can't say we'd handle it any better. If the things that we're seeing are true. He's getting banged up all the time. He's not getting calls that

he probably should. He's kind of because he is so good that the referees kind of give him the benefit of the doubt because he does finish plays anyway with dudes hanging on him. Well, he made the layup, so no foul. You know. It's like like we talked about with Drew Pierson, who was it we were talking with that about the other day. Yeah, with Campo No, the Micah Parsons, the Shack rule, all of that about how you yeah, yeah, because yeah, blanding, because you are

so good and you finish. They that's all they're seeing is the beauty in the completion of the play and not the actual stuff that would get called on maybe another player. I can't say that I would handle it any more maturely than he does. I can't say that my frustrations wouldn't hit a boiling point where I'm lashing out at fans and writing referees asses all the time. But the problem is is we had two decades me okay before I move on.

Did Dirk get this any worse than Luca's getting it right now early in his career? No, No, No referees, fans riding him, the media ripping this guy. Oh my god, another euro bust, another big white stiff. I mean that guy got murdered early on in his career. He

did pre Twitter. Yeah, that's true, but don't get a lot of that stuff to the refs too, But not as constant as No, not anywhere close to it, because Dirk was better equipped, and I don't know how, but he had a little more emotional maturity to handle these situations. So what I'm saying is because Dirk raised the bar so much on what you can be capable of taking in and enduring in a basketball game. From officials, from other players, from the media, from fans, you know,

you kind of have that expectation. It's like, well, dude, yeah, Luca I know it's hard out there, but ah, there's a template here, man, and it can be done well. And one thing about Dirk is he when he got here was unsure he belonged here. He didn't have the confidence that Luca brought with him here, Luca walking here. I guess. I don't know if he got off the plane and said watch this NBA, because I think he's admitted the stories that training can are those practice

games before training camp. Well, no, but it was he wasn't. Everyone else was like, Wow, this dude's really good, and he was realizing, yes, this translates. But he's even said that he's surprised how easy scoring came in the NBA relative to how he scored in Europe. But anyway, he knew he was the man. He knew he was good, and he had a lot more confidence than Dirk did. Dirk felt like a newborn giraffe in the NBA for a couple of years. He didn't come in

thinking I'm a superstar. I get superstar calls. Luca started with that, and I thought it would lower with his maturity. It's worse than ever right now. And a Texter just said, when we're gonna stop seeing you a kid. He is one month away from me twenty five. I looked at the NBA technical foul leaders. Trey Young is second with him. They're tied for second in the league with nine. Dylan Brooks has eleven. He's a known technical getter. But then it's like Jason Tatum, he's a star.

He's like there a couple of big names that do get a lot of technicals, but nine does seem excessive. We see him complain every night. I think if you didn't watch the map, maybe you watch the MAVs two, three, four times a year on national TV, you would go, God, he's bitching a lot because it is every game. It is non stop. First of all, let me go at this. So I have a hard time being hard on Luca, who puts up thirty easily every night,

gets a triple double nearly every night. We need to talk about the coach. He even said before the game. The Bucks fired Adrian Griffin their coach at thirty and thirteen because they weren't vibing well, and Jason Kidd said before the game in the pregame press conference, this puts of every coach in the league on Hiler, that no matter what your team's record is, you can be fired. That's how coaches should take it. Jason gets here because the

committee appointed him. Cuban, Niko was involved, Dirk was involved, Michael Finley was involved, but also see as a guy who could work with Luca. Are we in a coddling situation because we're scared Luca is gonna want to get out of here? Is that what's going on? I kind of think it is. Well, that's not a way to operate an organization where everybody around Luca that makes decisions is constantly walking on eggshells and living in fear that

he's going to bounce. That's what I said earlier. That will lead to him bouncing. Yes, it's accident. Everything you try to do to make sure that doesn't happen is leading toward making it happen because it enables him to continue on with this stuff. There's no boundaries for him. I mean, he's setting boundaries for Luca on this team. Mark Cuban, the head coach at GM like no one. Carlisle known as a hard ass, though it didn't work there either. Being hard on him didn't work either, But it

works and he was really good he's still silver all NBA. Yeah, I know, Like that's the constant is youbot be better now if you don't watch games and just stare at box scores, You're like, this is the you know, top three player in which he is. And I don't want to equate it to like a father figure relationship, you know, coach to a twenty four year old man, but it's it looks like Luca doesn't respect his head coach because you know, Kid has had these conversations and maybe not that

many. I mean Kid says he tells them all the time. You know, you got to be levelheaded, do this, it'll all come to you. But Luca's he has these brat tendencies and he's not seemingly listening to anyone. And you're right, maybe he's enabled by the entire organization and maybe we're the biggest idiots ever. Do whatever the hell you're doing, Luca, because you're hanging a triple double every night. Yeah, one thing that's kind of sucks for Luca and we see it every day, you know, where news

outlets will include social media comments into the body of their stories. You know, it's just a weird world that we live in. People are saying, but there are there. I guess because of the world we live in and the way we've you know, evolved to this that social media comments, I guess they matter now by all metrics. This is horrible for Luca because if you did, you know, search like I did last night before I went to bed, the Luca McMahon whatever, and you're seeing all the videos and

you're seeing the people comment on it. The vast majority of people that are reacting to this are not in support of Luca and and often it is tagged with what a whiney little bitch. Luca's a whiney little baby. Oh most opposing fan not most, because again, ticket prices skyrocket when the MAVs go there, because people want to see Luca. I mean sure, no doubt

everyone respects his games. Both of those things can be true. I looked at after the McMahon thing and kicking the fan out, one hundred of them soft soft, And I don't know if I mean he's emotional. I don't know that he's soft. No, he's not well, not on the floor. No, he ain't soft the furthest thing. But he right there and you asked him, and you're like, what the hell, Luca would say, are you you wires? Anyone yelling at me? Are you kidding?

I do everything? Most half this team does very little. Hey, guess what. They're not good at basketball on the NBA level. Luca's like, you're your spotlight's pointed at me. I'm killing myself out there. I should take a week off, and then I limp out there and I do everything. So yeah, I get a little frustrated, like and I do get that side, understand that. But we've just never seen anyone bitch like he does. It's it's it's more than anyone we've ever seen. It's it's incredule.

And he goes home and the first thing he hears is, hold this baby. I've been working all day too. You hold the bat. It's your turn. He went to he went to school to learn how to change diapers. And did you know that he admitted to that to that class. I don't know. It was a literal class, That's what he says. Some other wife had to give him a quick class. I would imagine.

I'm not saying any took a semester at rich. No, he know somebody had to teach him how I could do this all morning because we just tipped the icebird with kid. I'm glad I said this last week even and yesterday before. Now, I mean not that everyone's everyone's been saying it, but what the hell? What do you bring? Why do we win games because of our head coach? I don't know. Is it because Luca's so calm and forming into the perfect weapon that he's already is? I mean, maybe

their relationship leads to Lucas corn a triple double every night. Maybe when Luca runs hot is when he performs at this level. Maybe, but I don't know what you're what Jason Kidd does to quate to wins for the Dallas Mavericks, And he doesn't chures hell doesn't know what to do when they're on a forty to ten run on the wrong side of it like we were last night. And maybe we don't as constituted belong on the same floor as the Phoenix

Suns or the Boston Celtics. Fine, and maybe when they get healthy they win a bunch of games. And there's that rational part. It's almost like the retaining McCarthy part of my brain, which is like five days after the loss, Oh yeah, maybe that was the best decision. You know what happens when Luke and Kyrie are able to play every single night and Grant Williams is healthy and they got exum back last night and Derek Lively has been hurt,

Like what happens when you get them all healthy? Like there's so many questions and you would play that, but you did just get blasted by the Celtics, who are a better team than you, even when the matter are healthy. And they were both on the floor and they were they were healthy good. They didn't dominate the game, but they were both good looking and Kyrie, but are we sure Jason Kidd knows how to manipulate the joy of

having two of the best players in the sport on the same team. And I think Kyrie, who's been a you know in interviews, seems like the vibe is perfect. I think he kind of sits back on ice like last night and just goes, the hell's going on with these people? He's been seventeen out of forty four games. No, Yeah, that hurts. That's that's tough. Man. After the game, he was walking off the floor and everyone's I feel like Kyrie is just like, oh my god, I

wish they're all e fing crazy that. Yeah, I'd love to know what advanced basketball minds see from a strategic standpoint, because it makes me kind of further the question. I mean, does Jason Kidd even know how to create lineups on the floor for the MAVs that set them up for their best their best chance at winning? Does he know how to use Luca and Kyrie together?

Does he know what to do when one of them's out? I just I don't know what Rick Carlichael, Rick Carlichael, Rick Carlisle definitely was a master strategic mind when it came to the art of basketball. I don't know if Jason Kidd is that. I know that he's liked I know that Luca likes him, right, don't we know? Is he his friend? Yeah? Is? I don't know what he's here for. I don't know this

because Luca respect him, like part of me. In that game last night was like, take Luca out number once in the third quarter, you're down twenty five whatever it is, and they came back to make it eighteen whatever it was. Yeah, but it's like, you're just gonna get another tech And I'm glad he didn't or you're gonna get hurt even further, like take him out. But I don't know if kid has the balls to take Luca out of his standard rotation on a day when Luca is playing, you know

what I mean. Well, let's get into this more later, because it's gonna be this is gonna be a big topic all day long. Let's get in this more later. I want to work the phones on this too. I texted Tim McMahon to see if he'll do the thing to him a pain, So we'll see if he can get him to Collins. Well, maybe we'll have Skin jump in at nine thirty five too, they'd have a take on it. He'll take some phone calls a little bit later as well.

Because I'll tell you this, we've been in a damn holding pattern to get Jason Kidd on now for almost two weeks. Because we can't get him on unless they win a game. That's true, we might not hear from me till March. That's also not there. That's not on them. I've actually offered that as almost like a you know, good faith here, Thank hell, let's get him back for a win. Yeah. I would love to have had him on today. Yeah. No, I mean that's something I

can you know, we could ask. I guess he would have declined today. Yeah, coming up next, the shocking thing that interrupted a fort Worth i D Committee meeting. It's it's porn, and I have the audio that no one else has. It was sent to me by someone who's in the meeting. Next time, ninety seven won the free
