You're listening to the downbeat on ninety seven to one. The freak weather's going to get back to blow freezing overnight. Fella's looking at the hourly on my models here forty one right now though, I'm just looking at the app on my phone that everyone has, and it's showing the exact same thing. Oh yeah, you can't trust that. Yeah, okay, Yeah, I did wake up like with cringe face, like what am I going to put on? It was like thirty six, and I'm like, okay, feeling good.
That's kind of weird too, to be thirty six and happy, But it's better than fifteen tomorrow. At the tip off that we have here every morning, we can throw a ball in the air and jump forward. At six am tomorrow morning, it'll be twenty eight degrees with a real fill of twelve. Stop it wind chill. Yeah. Yeah. But dude, today at four o'clock, you'll walk in the damn park fifty seven degrees and sunny. Yeah. I'm sitting outside. People. If the vitamin deep fifty seven
is golfye oh, when's when? When's that four o'clock today? Dude, one o'clock you can tee off fifty five have a beautiful apple. I actually might do that, really, yeah, really, as we've got a mile an hour wind, so that's manageable. My hard knip percentage for tomorrow is sixty eight percent. Yeah, sixty eight percent chance of hard nips tomorrow. Anything above sixty two is a gift, right, Mikey, It's right? Is it? Sixty two percent? That's all you need, all you need?
Coming up in thirty I've got stories that involve some frozen pond action here in DFW. I've got a story of a shocking death involving a naked man. And we've been dodging this hot air balloon story you have, Well, Danny's been paying me to not do it. We might get to that. Also a challenger to the floor, Fox's hot new game show What, which automatically a top ten game show of all time three episodes. Yeah, we have got a challenger and I'll tell you what that is in thirty minutes.
A lot of good stories, big stories, local stories coming up in thirty We want to go out the phone number two and four or eight when seven seven eight seven one nine seven one if you want to weigh in on this, Mike McCarthy deal. He's brought back. It was announced last night. If you want a way in, give your thoughts, pro con whatever you want, go ahead and fire away two and four or eight one seven seven
eight seven one nine seven one. In Sports at seven and now Sports at seven, I can't believe that eighty one year old man, an eighty one year old man is just gonna go huh, this is it. It doesn't even matter what you personally think about Bill Belichick. Bill Belichick is a playoff quarterback. I mean as a playoff coach, a good playoff record of thirty one and thirteen, I believe, and like that's enough, and I think
it would work here and he go to work fine. And the Dak thing is strange because you do want Dak to take an extension, sign an extension so you can sign Ceedee Lamb and Michael Parsons and get his cap number down. So you have that and you're kind of married to that, and is McCarthy's last year And the truth is, no matter how much people want to scream and shout, Dak's not going anywhere. Dak will be the quarterback of the Cowboys. That's the play now. In two years, maybe not but
right now, that's the play. Also on Dak's contract, no trade clause, and he's got a provision in there that seems a little illegal, but we know that contracts can be worded oddly. That prevents him from getting a friend tag in twenty twenty five. So that's your quarterback, know that. Move on. How do you optimize that? Is it by having McCarthy who has showing these made Dac less have less turnovers, led the league in touchdown passes. But what about being ready to go in the playoffs? And that's
all that matters to me? The idea If I knew that the Cowboys shouldn't have wasted time running the ball against the Packers, how did Mike McCarthy and his coaching staff not know that? That's Packers' secondary is god awful. Outside of Jyr Alexander, who's great, go attack it. You're trying to run the ball, they're trying to nickel and dime their way up and down the field. You didn't have to do that. They did not have to do
that. And you can look at one game. It's not one game though, dude, It's just not the Buffalo game, the San Francisco game, those are games against big time opponents where you need to be ready to play, and your team coward down. They built coward down. So I agree. I think this is insane. I think it's stupid. I think it's not taking a chance. And if you're eighty one years old and it's all about you, how do you just go? You know what? That's fine.
I have to believe that he was talked out of it, or that he's a phony, and that might be true, that he's just tricked us into believing all these things about him that aren't true. He might just be a guy, you know what I mean. He probably some guy that got a Rando pregnant. He's just a guy. He's just some guy. It's like the decisions and all I thought put into it. I kind of don't
want to think that. But have I been fooled? Why? And I get the steady hand thing that you guys are gonna hit me with, and feel free to give me your stance one more time, and our audience in the stance in case they missed it earlier. No, there's definitely something to what you are saying. I like your reaction and I'm glad you were having it honestly, because again, as not really a cowboy found I know you're
not either. I want him to do it. I tend to try to take a breath and understands these in the day after a disaster like we had last weekend, I understand, everyone loses their mind, and I don't know. Maybe they should have they should have canned him. I'm not saying they shouldn't have. But it's a good team. It's a good team, and you just referenced two losses at Buffalo and at San Francisco that might be the best team in the AFC and NFC. It's the style of loss. Well,
they're not as good as those two teams. It's the cartoon style of a loss that tells me you're not close. Well, it's the cartoon style of loss to the Packers that no one should shake out of their heads. And I love that we had Troy say yesterday, you know, you're not paid to win regular season games. You're you're not paid to put up great stats. You're paid to win in the playoffs. So yeah, the evidence to scream that get rid of Mike McCarthy is there is some, But the
evidence to keep him is is fairly fairly big as well. So I didn't agree with that part the evidence to keep him. Yeah, I mean I just looked at every see it's perfect. Look at every division winner. Every single one is still in the playoffs except for one. Every team that won on the at home. But it goes back to who are the Cowboys? Why are you special? Because winning divisions is really good and hard to do.
If you can peel back the false veneer and perception of what this team, of what people think this team is and should be, and you put them in the category on an even playing field with every other NFL team as being you are a football team in the NFL. You're not special. You're not some legacy thing that's entitled to win championships every other year, which the
Cowboys do. They have this immense amount the people that follow this team, you know, with massive dedication, have this false sense of hubris that the super Bowl Trophy belongs in Dallas. You're just like everybody else. And if you judge this team that they are just like everybody else, then this decision was kind of a coin toss and it could go either way. It's a
risk either way. It's a risk to keep McCarthy, but it's also a risk to kind of blow up the whole thing, bring in a new coach, a new regime, new schemes, new playbook, new plans, and just cast aside three twelve win seasons. Is that's not good enough. I don't love this decision, but I don't hate it, and I definitely understand it. You had to make one or the other. And it's not like the I don't feel like that the weights are stacked just in favor one way
that this was just the absolute worst thing that Jerry could have done. This is not a mistake until it is a mistake. You can't def to definitively sit here right now and say this was the wrong decision. I don't think so. I don't think so either. But on Twitter, it's fun to yell things. I get that, man, but take all. I had a different take on Monday, Dude, I get it. I was emotional on Monday, right. I wanted to gone to move past that. You
do. It's fun to stand up and be Vince McMahon and scream you are fired like that's fun. That's not read the real world. But take other teams, take a big market take the Jets. Imagine them getting three straight twelve win seasons, you know, for that or Atlanta or any you know, Chicago, I mean, take Chicago, the Jets. Those are bigger markets than ours. You know. There's a lot of chaos surrounding those teams.
We don't see it as much as we live down here, and it isn't as much as the Cowboys because why, I don't know why, because the Cowboys and the Cowboys and they just always will be. But three straight good seasons is not generally a fireable offense. This team is in the seventh decade of existence. Forget the first four and just look at them over the previous three decades of existence. You're not just like every other team in the
NFL. You're worse. You know, if that was the percession, if the Dallas Cowboys were an expansion team that started in nineteen ninety six, we would be foaming at the mouth. To keep McCarthy excited, Oh thank god, they're bringing the guy back that brought us three twelve win seasons. But it's all about the past. It's all about the f and seventies, which you weren't the team of the seventies. The Steelers. Were you weren't You
didn't do anything in the eighties. The Niners owned that freaking decade, and you got pretty lucky in the nineties with a pretty great head coach and a really unique move that had never happened before and will never happen again with the Herschel Walker trade. And then since then you are ordinary. Stop living off of those four years. That does not define you as that does not define your existence as a team in the NFL. And if you come off of
that, you realize that things are actually pretty damn good right now. They are, But it's seven and two in week ten next year, I ain't drinking the coat, the hopium, the cowboy Hopium, I'm not taking back. Okay on that note, you know it is very much in play, which we're gonna talk about a plenty. The mid season Canning absolutely the internal implosion. Yep, he will be number one on all the list of hot
seat coaches. First to get fired year. Yes, and with every loss, because they'll have no years left on the contract, we will have the oh my god, mid season firing. Gerry had no reason to fire him. He really didn't have a reason to fire. You could not fire him after that one game. He has not lost the team. Everybody on this team speaks highly of him. Dak effing loves him. Second highest penalized team in the league. There's a lot of things that need to be fixed.
Again, there's a lot of things. Yes, there are some details that need to be tightened up. There are some decisions that need to be made personnel wise and probably coaching staff wise. But it's not like it's not like this thing is in shambles. It's not I won't be with Mike McCarthy and like it'll never get to shambles. It won't. It's not gonna be good enough, though, And if you got time for that, that's cool. I just thought I thought things were a little more urgent for Jerry. That's
all I'm saying. We had callers, I have a bunch of I'd love to hear them, and I want to hear more from you, because I mean, I I can be convinced, but I want to hear a definitive good reason why Mike McCarthy should have been fired. Because better options are okay, And that's the closest thing I've heard to a good reason, but not because of his performance, and you say his performance isn't good enough. I mean, you lost the forty nine ers and two of the previous two playoff
games. They were a better team now the Packers thing, And I like your point too. The Packers might just be this up and coming team that doesn't give a damn is playing better than the Cowboys. They're better than the Cowboys, but it just feels because the Cowboys were favorites. The Cowboys had a good season, the Cowerys were at home, and they don't lose at home. That no chance you should lose to the Packers. And once you do, my God, fire someone right now, please, someone get fired.
But it is that the Packers had their blind Squirrel game and the Cowboys had the confluence of everything going wrong at the absolute worst time when everybody underperformed on that one day. But it's the head coach to ensure that that doesn't happen. So I understand that that's where the Bucks should stop. Also feel that if Belichick weren't available right now in shopping for a gig, then we wouldn't even This wouldn't even be up for conjecture at all. I don't want
Harball over McCarthy. You don't clear about that. I don't think you want anybody over McCarthy other than Bellichi Belichick. I go there because I refuse to believe that Belichick with a washed Cam Newton who had to be talked back into the league, and mac Jones and Brian Hoyer and Bailey Zappi is what he is. I just can't believe. And he ain't gonna be the one picking all the players. If he was here, they got a system in place and it would have to work that way. Belichick can walk in here and
be like, are you kidding me? Yeah, we're gonna be fine. We're gonna be great. Man. They will never step put on a field unprepared. And I don't know if the cowboy stepped in the field unprepared or maybe just the play. The game plan was just wrong. Also, that's all's at the foot of the coach. That's it. The game plan was wrong. We're gonna roll the dumb ball. Remember, well, you're not a good run coach. Let's do the callee. We got so many uh who we got here? J J nine one? Hi? What's your name?
Hey? It's done on Kevan was Chris Man hit us man, Hey uh, man, I don't I'm not even mad that they're bringing McCarthy back. And it's like your parents when you did something when you were younger, they tell you they're not mad, they're just disappointed. But this team is who we thought they were. Man. Uh the one and done guys.
Honestly, I was in the text chain with my older brothers and right before the game, I was like, hey, man, we're about to mess this up, aren't we And both of them are like, yeah, probably, And we went out there later do say yeah, it's it seemed lack in heart. Man. I don't think it's the coach. I mean, yes, he had a bad game plan. We got beat on all three phases in the game, but this team has no heart. Yes, when players make it to Dallas, it's like, hey man, we made it.
We got the star on side of our helmet. Let's just coach and thanks Chris, appreciate the call, man, Thank you, have a good day. Have a good day, Chris. There he goes, well, he didn't hear he didn't hear you say it by Chris who really cares about him? Mike, I don't know if this the golf boys the players don't have heart. Okay, I think those guys were deeply, deeply disappointed and deeply emotionally affected by but not advancing. I agree. I don't think they
could believe it. But for the camp that blames Jerry Jones, right, which I don't know, the whole town. I mean that would be rooted in that, the whole heart, the whole You got to Dallas, you made it look around life is amazing. I mean, you mentioned it's Jake Ferguson's birthday. He's a dog, he had three touchdowns. He's probably on a boat in a Caribbean island right now, like good deserved. But to say that he's not talking about this all day and bitching about it and his
day is ruined, Like, I don't know if that's the case. I think Jerry when he gets new players in here, when they get drafted or whatever or traded or acquired by free agency, this is the mistake. And Jerry sets the tone for the culture because the thing that I've been talking about is this isn't some you know, incredible legacy organization. You're not all about
winning in championships. The problem is is he probably marches those guys out there at the Star and walks by that trophy case and points to all those Super bowls and sees all the photos that that Ben's guy, you know, put on canvases up there, of all of their their wonderful you know, historical moments and and and and ingrains that into them, of this ridiculous expectation that is kind of false for the most part. Anyway, It says, this is what you have to live up to, this is what we expect.
Get rid of those damned trophies. Walk in there and go, we eat nothing. It's up to you to make us something. They don't do that. In Green Man. They say it's gonna suck here, it gets real cold in the winter, but glad to have you like it is a history, like it's not. Your seed is planted into their heads like that. They walk in there already thinking that they're great just because they're Dallas effing cowboys. But they if you think of a human, you did make it.
You did. You're on the Dallas Cowboys. You're making more money than your multiple generations of your families have ever seen and will ever see. Like you've made it. It should be you made it because you were in the NFL, not because you're a Dallas Cowboy. That's true. Make the Dallas Cowboys the Dallas Cowboys because of what you do, not because of what we did, which is kind of somewhat of a false narrative. Anyway, Let's go to Hi. What's your name? Hey, guys, this is Mark down
in Corpus. Christy, hit us with your best shot. All right, man, you guys have it all wrong. Harry Jones is in it for money, and every time that stadium is full, so are his pockets. Okay. The worth of his team is not defined by winning or losing. It's defined by I have the most valuable sports franchise in the world. Anytime I walk into a room, I am the richest man in that room. Chris, I walk into a room with all the other owners. They look
up to me because I make them money. Okay, Garry Jones, Okay, I don't disagree that that's all true, but I don't know if that supplants his desire to win a title. Let me ask you this, Chris, and you guys as well. I just checked Garry Jones worth thirteen point seven billion dollars. What do we all think Chris, you go first. If he could pay one billion dollars to win the Super Bowl next year, do you think he would? It would all depend on whether his stadium was
full. That's when things will change when people quit going to the games, which they won't because the sheet will follow, and he'll do white outs and sell all these white jerseys and T shirts and hats and just bring in all that money. He's the biggest best carny that ever lived. He can promote anything. I don't disagree, but every NFL stadium is packed, and promote our station. I I really don't disagree with him, but every NFL stadium
is packed and they will they will continue to be. I don't disagree with them either, But I also think both things can can be accurate. I think he can want to win as badly as he wants to be rich. I have two things. For the first thing, Jerry said, Chris, thank you, Thank you, Chris. Have a good days. There is safe out there. Thank you. Chris. Uh. If you're if we didn't get to you right here, if you're hold, if you want to hang out, I'll throw you on the next segment because I know we didn't
get to you out there. Two things. One of the first things Jerry said after that loss is it just killed me that, you know, we we could have been playing another home game right here next week, which is like, yep, there is a big payday to be had there. I do think you would have paid one billion dollars. The other element to all of this that I really think is why you could put the crying Jordan filter on Jerry's face really for the next week, two weeks month. That Netflix
documentary is going to probably dodge this game. But that Netflix documentary about the Cowboys and the legacy of the Cowboys, he really wanted that thing. He really wanted them to go on a run and that thing capture that. I think it's going to be an embarrassing loss that they probably won't even put in the documentary. I don't disagree with that, But I also do think that it's possible that he said we it sucks because we could have had another home
game. Not necessarily speaking specifically and solely to the fact that it's a home game and we're going to make a lot of money off of it, but it's a home game that would give us, in theory, a better chance to win because it's a home game. Well, then get a coach that can get that dumb for you. I mean, it's just not going to be good enough. I'm warning. Or yeah, I get a coach that's had success in the playoffs and has won a super Bowl. Oh, you
got one. It's five hundred success in the playoffs. I think, yeah, yes it is. It is because one team wins. Yeah, and I don't I swear, and this might be stupid, but if Jerry Jones was given one wish on this earth, I think it would be to win a Super Bowl. I think, I believe you there. I do think he'd pay one billion dollars for it. I do, yeah, And he'd want to write the script and make sure he gets credit for it all that stuff. But yes, I do think it would be part of it.
And he would negotiate because he is that that way. He likes to negotiate. That's good, mich We're to push our frinkle spot back to the wanting to do it right now, Okay, we'll do it right now. No, we'll push it to the eight am hour because coming up next. I do want to get to the other two callers if they want to hang through the brake and let people weigh in a little bit. Plus big stories in the world, including one of the wildest murder stories I've ever heard involving fort
Worth. A naked man in firewood next to ninety seven won the Free
