A couple of special guests zooming
in here, Mikey. I know we're all World Series alcs crazy, which understandably, but the eyes of the world are on the state of Texas this week as Formula one is here at Circuit of the Americas, and I have some guys I love from a podcast. They live in London and they're funny as hell and they're weird, and they have flown to Austin to take in the F one race. So they are down there right now, and we're gonna have Sam Sage and Ben Hawking from the Late Breaking Formula One podcast join
us live right after a coupanutes after nine o'clock. And they're funny dudes, and I more just want to talk about their I think it's their first trip to Texas and just they're what their impressions are, and then we'll talk a little F one race. And so if you're into either of those things, please join us shortly after nine o'clock and lightning fast. Speaking of things, I like, did you see Netflix is gonna do their first ever live sporting
events. I saw that, yes, And this is like if Soroy Industry's entertainment division came up with a live event to broadcast. Does this have to
do with marbles? Oh no, but my other two favorite things. As in Las Vegas on November eighteenth, Netflix will be airing live sports for the first time, and it is Formula one drivers and PGA tour pros taking part in a nine Hole Golf Match Challenge live in Vegas as two of their most successful shows are Driving to Survive. That's the F one show in full swing,
which is the PGA Tour behind the scenes show. They're mixing those together and we got Ricky Fowler, Max Homer, Mora cat Mora Kawa and Justin Thomas pairing up with Alex Alban, Pierre Gas, Lelando Norris and Carlos Signs and doing like a F one golf war. I bet you had to throw your trousers in the laundery after you read that headline. What that is? If you gave me the keys to Netflix, what I would do with it very day? The parents are away, Netflix's mom and dad are out of
town for a couple of days. Mikey's in charge, so we are going to watch that s. But for real, Netflix doing live sports is noteworthy. I would think they're about to start ramping that up too. It's all headed man. When HBO is taking the ownership of some live sports, I believe they read that a couple of weeks ago. Netflix is about to get video games too, is right. They're going to try to compete with Xbox and PlayStation. Netflix is like you can get on Netflix and you'll have a
controller and you can play video games on Netflix. Yeah. I thought you could already do that. I don't think they have that yet, but it's where it's going because I saw too, like I think it was Walmart or was it best Buy had just eliminated like brick and mortar, the idea that you can go buy a hard copy video game at a store. They did eliminate that. Yeah, Walmart, Walmart's is going to stop selling physical games,
man, really, which is a bummer. Man, It's just remind you of just a nostalgia going up and yeah, can we unlock the glass case? I love it and grab the game? You can get one game. One game is always one. You have two in your hands for typically right, make the right decision. I mean there's a game stop in Town East Mall and I was there this past weekend with the with the baby, and there was like six or seven customers in there, rummaging around things.
You'll always need hardware, you know, new controllers and headsets like I don't know, you'll always need who knows. That's interesting. I wonder if Netflix sits around, like how do we get where do we go? Next. How do we crush Xbox and PlayStation? I think two. There's also Ted
sarandus. The guy runs Netflix has been i would say very opens out the word, but some of these comments about the rider's strike and then the actors strike, which is currently still go he's kind of been the one that's sang the most. I'll just say dickish things like hey man, don't you want this to end? It's good for you if this ends, And like he's
really getting like the studios back and being difficult and saying these things. It's like he may not actually care about all this content, and he may have his head on gaming and live sports more than okay, I will bid on another movie that's just gonna be our bit on another Ozark. He might be more worried about that stuff that he doesn't care. I wonder if that all
just runs itself at this point. And they certainly have a department for new programming and new you know, to green light new shows and produce them. But yeah, if you're the CEO, like what do we do next? What's way bigger? And Netflix is a great example of a company that a long time ago was little, was nothing that it was little and then they went huge. Sure, so I guess what's next. That's interesting. You saw the story where Netflix is opening some type of brick and mortar stores.
Those are on the horizon, and I kind of read through the article and it didn't make a ton of sense. And it's not even they don't even know if they're going to like rent DVDs or anything. It's just net there's going to be a Netflix store, and I think it's It was really confusing. It was an article maybe food and drink is an option at these things, and they don't. I couldn't really determine what it is they're actually selling. It's more of just you know, brand putting the brand out there in
different different arenas. I wonder if we're just on a path toward nothing. You won't hold anything in your hand in twenty five thirty years, like it'll all be digital, everything in the cloud. The only thing they know for sure that you'll need is food and drink. Food and drink. I bet the idea in forty years of what you held a video game in your hand?
You know why it makes sense? Makes that will make no sense then, considering the way that everything is being streamed now you know blockbusters went away for for music, uh, and and movies. You know who rents DVDs And I'll see randomly people at like seven eleven on whatever that is uh red box, Yeah, people walking up to those things. I think those things
still do well in some communities. But I mean, all that stuff just evaporated into the cloud, and that's where you get all your all your stuff. My surprise, video games have made it as long as they have. I mean, do you use an actual like disc to play it's all you download everything or everything's on your home screen. You just touch it, okay up probably close to ten years you gonna take sorry, Uh okay. So when you when you play your video game like Hall of Duty, for example,
do you download the game uhlaid the gameplay? Yeah, information into your hard drive that is already existing on your xboxes. So Netflix, it sounds like all of this stuff is going to be able to be played in the cloud where you're not actually using anything from a hard drive or or a piece of hardware in your own home. Much like you know, like these new MacBooks they don't have a lot of disk space on them because they want you to pay nine dollars a month to use their iCloud. So that's where all
my stuff is is in the cloud. Yeah, I would imagine Netflix will make you download some something maybe then you then go to that, and then within that you get into all the live streaming games and if it's all interactive multiplayer stuff anyway, if it's fifteen dollars a month for Netflix, it'll be like it's twenty five dollars a month if you want the gaming. And but
to mundle that with it like that. Yeah, And but my point is is you're not going to have a box from Netflix that you're going to download the game into that box. You're going to actually play the game with other players in within the cloud, is what I'm saying. That's a good question, Like all Netflix runs through my Xbox now, so like where to actually download it? I don't know. Yeah, you won't. That's that's the
whole point is. You'll just have a controller that interacts with your TV much like you're remote, and you'll just play and all of the one the ones and zeros that configure to make the arena that you're playing your game in will exist in the cloud as opposed to it being the information being stored on a computer or yeah, okay, that's what I was curious about, the most important thing in the world. Wake up, you, a little sleepyhead.
It's time to get your stupid ass out of bed about the most important thing in the most important thing. Yeah, all right, a ton of important things going on in the world, but I thought this thing was interesting. Thought you guys might have something to say about this, because we're all friends. At Alamo Draft House Cinema of course, yes, sir. In fact,
Ben and Skin will be there next Tuesday. Ben and Skin show hot Rod Alamo Draft House in Denton. There will be no Ranger game that night, just the way the schedule works, so whether the Rangers advance or not, it will be in the break between the CS and the World Series hot Rod at Alamo Draft House in Denton. Go to ninety seven one the Freak dot com for your tickets. So the Taylor Swift Thing is now the top
grossing concert film of all time Taylor Swift the Eras Tour. But it stirred up a lot of debate on social media over the weekend because a lot of videos that people had posted from inside theaters across the nation showing people standing singing, shining their cell phone lights from their phone, and dancing between the screen and like the front row. One person had posted a video it says,
I'm at the worst screening ever. I can't even hear Taylor. They're kind of sitting in the back and you see a bunch of people up front dancing and by people in their twenties. Now. Taylor herself posted about this back in August and on Instagram. Part of her post said singing and dancing is encouraged. AMC Theaters is the one who was the distributor here, and Dy
even said we encourage dancing and singing throughout the concert film. Please do not dance on our seats or block other guests from viewing safely from viewing, walking, or exiting the auditorium. AMC Theaters basically put out a note that said, don't damage our seats. And then, you know, so this is kind of like a debate, like how do you behave yourself at a concert film like a concert or like like a film. I don't know the answer
because I actually can kind of see both ways. I don't think I've ever been to a concert film in the theater. I don't think so. I don't think I've been to a concert film in the theater. I have been to a concert live stream in the theater and it was awesome. That was a dance party, r wasn't it? Not really? Because it was my favorite band? So like, who were people just sitting staring at the screen?
Yeah, pretty much? That seems almost weirder. Well, there's like three of us there, wouldn't that big of a deal, Jesus, Yeah, terrible. You know what, It was awesome and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was fun. I've been to one and the surviving members of led Zeppelin and Jason Bonham I guess got back together, like yeah, fifteen years ago and they did a concert film called Celebration Day and we on the old radio station, at the old radio station, the show
that I worked on. We all went and saw it because we wanted to review it, and you know, I love led Zeppelin. I wanted to see it just for personal reasons. And the majority of people were just sitting there. You know, I don't even think that after a song ended, he really heard clapping. But there was one woman that sat in front of us that thought she was thought she was at Madison Square Garden in nineteen seventy three and was standing up and yelling requests. Honey, didn't work that well.
This was filmed like six months ago, good times, bad times, so you know, we talked about that. It's like, what's the right thing to do. I mean, it is a concert film. You shouldn't you have the freedom to act like you're at a concert or and that's the whole point. It's like, oh, I can't afford yeah the tickets or tailor's not coming to my town. I want to have that experience I have, especially for something like this. I got absolutely no problem with it.
Yeah, I think let it rip, Let it rip. Tater Chip, Yeah, I think so too. I think it's also probably a read the room situation if you're comfortable being that type. Guess who doesn't read a room
twenty one year olds? Oh yeah, But if you're going to a screening of this, or you're going to see this and there are a bunch of twenty one year olds there and that's already happening, you're kind of that's where you are, Like, it's just maybe everyone's calm and the once one, two, three, four, five, sixty seven people get up start dancing, and then it's kind of you're not if you wanted to just watch the film as a movie, then you're kind of screwed. What one thing?
I was talking to Rocks about this because she she wants to go and I'm down to go to I'm good, But she's like, I'm glad we didn't go on opening weekend, so we can kind of see what this is about because for a lot of these people, and as part of the reason I think she did this, maybe she was gonna do this anyways. And and Beyonce's got one coming in a couple of months, and it's like, well, there's a bunch of people who couldn't get freaking tickets to our show.
I wonder if I will go to the Beyonce movie. Are you serious? Oh? I forgot you're with us today? J he's making the jokes because we're finna cut up. Were gonna cut up in theaters. You're gonna go to the movie too? Right? Yeah? Really? Yeah, you're gonna act a fool man. It's a dance party. It's look mute, We're gonna do it all, all of it. Yeah, are you going to
be mute police, but you'll give us Yes. I just think they should have multiple like like a screening for just people who want to watch, and then you know, have like a note like this is only for yeah, like non like non interactive, and then interactive. You know, like concerts are supposed to get you hyped and I have fun. Like it would be weird for either Beyonce Taylor Swift to sit in a silent theater and stare YEA, that doesn't feel right at all. Yeah, it would not be I
agree, I get dressed up. I think it's fun. I don't think I have a problem with this. There's you know, a few people bitching online, people supporting it online. Make it a like almost a rocky horror picture show kind of thing. Interacting, and I don't know, if you go to a concert, it's not silence, like you're dealing with that people dancing, screaming, singing along like and that's part of the experience. So like that's what you're trying to replicate in the theater. Let's go out to
the audience out there. If someone on holding wants to weigh in, who do we have here? Pleasebe Taylor? Is this Taylor swift jeering in the
nine seventy two. I'm a big Alamo fan myself, and one of the things that Alamo does to try to resolve that issue is they will have specific sing along showings where it's like, if you're going to go do that, you do it there and everybody's doing it, and then they'll have the normal showings for people who just want to go enjoy it, and then everybody ends up happy and you don't have to worry about you know, some people doing one some people doing the other. It's just you go to the showing this
and doing the thing you want to do. Are you specifically talking about Taylor or just concert films in general. I don't know if they've done it for this one. I know they've done it for other things that are somewhere in the past they're like it. I would imagine they're doing that for that. I don't know for sure, but I mean they do it. Brothers out there like it, so I would imagine they're doing it for Taylor too, So they'll label a show as a sing along. Yes, they have special
event, you know, screenings for interactive audiences exactly. Note that when you you know you buy your ticket and you you don't have the whole thing. If some people wanted to just hear it and you know, have to deal with annoyed and some people, well why can't I enjoy it? You get both that way? I mean enough for me because I don't know, I'll thank you for your call, sir, by the way, I know for me, like I don't know more than ten Taylor Swift songs and I'm not
a fan. I know a few. I kind of just want to see what the show's like, but I could see myself no matter what happens, just kind of sitting in the back and just challenge down on like ten monzarella sticks and what're gonna want to use the buddy system there when you order mozzarella sticks? Then maybe I'll just go up and offer a few to some of
the dancing because they're gonna need their carbs sit there up there. Yeah, that's one way to kind of knock them down, you know, if they're getting a little too rowdy, just hand them a mozzarella stick and there'll be a sleep in minutes. Yeah, straight to the gut. And then if that doesn't work, get a full pretzel. Yeah. Yeah, I misjudged. I got excited when I opened the menu at Alamo Draft House. All Right, I ordered too much. I get excited every time I go,
and then I go. You know what, I would like some bottomless popcorn. I think that would be amazing and the biggest diet coke you could find to say, she eate my thirst for carbonation on a big beer or two. I know, if this thing was ninety minutes, yeah, I would tell Christina to get dressed up. Let's go see Tay. I've been saying the same thing about Killers of the Flower Moon. This beast is over three hours later, three hour. Taylor's two forty eight, okay, Killers of
the Flower Moon's like three thirty good. Okay. They're tricking me into sse Yeah, I know. Have you seen it? ORT know, No, I haven't seen it. They're they're often himering me because I'm like all in right now on Killers of the Flower too. But you know what, I think Scorsese fired as editor in like nineteen ninety right, just everything, I shoot, yeah, put it in, leave it in, make it work a masterpiece. You've seen it? No I haven't. I'm just saying that's
okay. Yeah, maybe tomorrow we can talk about this. I let's talk about it in depth tomorrow during your segment and more. JJ. But like, I've been seeing like a couple of things, so I was like, it's really good that it's been released eleven days before Halloween because there's some horror and terror elements to it as well. Obviously it's a terrible story, but
it's already I think the heavy favorite for Best Picture. Yeah, and you know they love handing Leo stuff accolades, at least, if not awards. Don't know, huh. Took him until The Revenant to win Best Actor. Yeah, my buddy. Maybe you guys know who Chris Wagner is. Yeah, Okay, so he reviewed it, and I didn't read his entire review, but I will. But I think the synopsis was, the script feels kind of sloppy and lumbering at times, but it's a movie that definitely needed
to be made and the story needed to be told. And he says that Leonardo DiCaprio is perfectly morphing into Marlon Brando. Yeah. Yeah, like that's that's his career trajectory, is He's basically a modern day Marlon Brando. I can't wait to see it, he said. But he also said he goes, I might change my opinion after I see it a second time, and I can't wait to see it a second time. So it sounds like he enjoyed it but just had like a critical mind, had a couple of uh.
There were some exceptions that he had with with the with the film, but overall looks like it's pretty good. So are you going to sea or now? I'll look at tickets. I mean they're they're going pretty good at six o'clock showing. Sure, last week pretty full. Last week we were looking like the closest all of the draft house and they were pretty much sold out. And I'm a back row guy, liked on the back you do back row dead last, back row dead less, back row isle, walk
straight down back row isle. Yep, it's like the worst seat in the house. Now it's the best seat for me because I like to be in a corner. Dude, there's so much legroom in Almo draft Us. As a matter off, you're on the aisle. You don't have to tell anyone to move here. You're right, you're right. But it's just me. It's a personal personal thing. I'm just gonna go see hot Rod with Skin
and beIN Yeah, Tuesday, It be fun, Alma draft. You know what what it'll be about forty five minutes to an hour faster than Killers of the Flower Moon is Game three tonight a Rangers Astros. We'll get you ready for that and more next on ninety seven Won the Free
