You're listening to the downbeat on ninety seven to one the freak ways. I gonna get draft flight out of that here. Wow, all right Bill Green, Big Day on the show. Well, this is Philip Green, a Frost Bank that's an associate of Archer, trying to attain detain right now, all right, we got this. Now, what's the employees name? San Antonio Man? I think we have Sam nine o'clock. I tell you people, we're excited about this via if text message feedback is anything from someone on
tex said, are you sure he lives next to the right course? Which I would be amazing. Hey, there's nobody out here, not a soul. I see two old guys and a poll card. I would be deeply questioning that had it not been for photographic evidence in the Valero signage. You know, he's done everything we've asked him to do except not overtalk us on the back and board on the phone. I don't even mind that, because san Antonio Man is an e F and wild card. Yeah, that dog
like that. Anything can happen today. He's got passion, he's fired up. All right, buckle up, lad eight thirty Larry the cable Guy, what a show. Guys, have you heard about the Super League? You asked that, and I I said, Golf, I said, is this Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman? Yeah? Makes comment number one, Yeah, like that with Superman lifting a Volkswagen. The Super League is a proposal.
It's a loose proposal by a group of twenty influential people, including Robert Goodell's number one man, like I. It'd be the NFL's number two guy, probably the future NFL commissioner after Robert Goodell. And there's the Philadelphia seventy six ers owner David Blitzer, I think is his name. He's involved. There's a group of twenty just tieh end guys and they are like NCAA football
is FT, we can fix it. And the idea would be the Super League, which means one league overseeing everything instead of NCUBAA or NCUBA being in charge. No more conferences. You would have promotion and relegation. So if you're a school like we'll just use North Texas as an example, since we carry their games in the fall, North Texas could jump into the top tier of college football, you know, and then go down too based on how
they play. Players would be paid directly. That would solve the nil thing, you know, because it's a problem for schools like North Texas, for small schools, it's a problem for a lot of schools. It's good for a lot of players, you know. But there would also be a managed transfer portal with like a limited number of options, you know, a limited number. You'd almost have to like maybe you could put a tag on someone
and not allow them to transfer. Now I'm not sure that would work, but either way, it's a proposal here and they think this is going to be great because it's there's one hundred and thirty college football teams FBS teams, so you would have seventy. There had to be it divided into two tiers
right off the bat, top seventy and then the back sixty. The top seventy would play in ten sorry, in sevent tente divisions, and also the top ten teams of the bottom tier would get relegated in to a playoff format with eighty teams, which sounds crazy, but then your playoffs are kind of set by a seeding and ranking based on how you did in your division,
and you have wild cards just like football does. And this was been heard by the ACC the Big Ten, the Big twelve, and the SEC had dinner meetings, planned to discuss this with this group, and then they ended up canceling them recently together because they're greedy a holes. Yeah, I would think the SEC would want nothing to change. Yeah, they don't, and they're turning themselves into the Super League. Yeah, so why would we want
to slow down our progress to help the masses? Well, and that's a short sighted way to look at it, but it is a self serving way to look at it. For them, the amount of money they can make on this, I believe is infinite. But the Super League would change everything, and in a good way, I think, Whereas the way it's changing now, I can't tell you if it'll be good or bad because I don't
know what they're gonna do. But there are a lot of schools and fans of schools which would be fans of the sport who know they don't have a chance, They have nothing to hope for. We could do really well, we would never be considered. They are teams that could go undefeated and not get in the playoffs. Now that's changed a little bit now that they've expanded the college football playoffs, which they've needed to do for a long time,
and it was always a money making opportunities. Were stupid that they've done that? Is it next year or next year? How many do we get? I'll go to twelve. Okay, that's awesome, it's great, it's so good. And here's the where it all comes down to, really like money that they don't want to upset ESPN and Fox and CBS and all these you know, broadcast partners. We'll see. I think they signed an eight billion dollar extension with ESPN to carry the college football Playoff. The Big ten has
a deal through thirty They just signed a deal with CBS. It's not SEC on CBS anymore. The Big twelve signed a TV deal through twenty thirty one. The SEC has an exclusive deal with ESPN running through twenty thirty four. So it's probably not gonna happen. That's what prevents all this stuff from happening. But what if the SEC can loses power because of transfer portal and things like that. They probably won't, but they're really trying to figure out what
they're going to do. Are we going to turn this into four super conferences? They don't specific a buddy who works for a smaller the American Athletic Conference, which has well had SMU s. SMU is now in the ACC, SMU is in the Atlantic Coast Conference, and definitely nowhere near the Atlantic Coast. Let me speak for Danny as well as myself that please God, who cares nothing whips for Oh no, no conference. What conference are we in?
Now? I don't because they've made it so muddy you can't follow it. This saves it. Well, yeah, but this is just some pipe dream because they have billion dollar TV deals running into the twenty thirties, Like, yeah, you can talk about this, but they won't violate those and the big conferences are not gonna say, yeah, let's stop printing money and take a big chance. And the only way you do it is to get everyone agreed to it and start it in like twenty thirty three or whenever that
last big deal goes out. It's just not gonna happen. Yeah, there's a reason that all of the heads of these conferences collectively canceled their lunch meeting. Yeah, because some underling you know, agreed to this a couple of weeks ago, and then the main dude is going through what's on the agenda for today. Well, we've got this lunch meeting for this super league. You know what, why don't we go ahead and just cancel that? And uh, I'm gonna go sip some what do they drink mint julibs on my
verenda instead? All plantation owners, Danny, aren't they? They kind of some of them actually ever been to a combine? Good lord? I look, I love it, and I feel like nowadays people who are ambitious with ideas like this maybe have more of a chance. I did, because there's communication and things do change a lot. I mean, you would have never thought that those that the conferences we had would be exploded and changed as much as they are. So I guess they're in all of the defection. Yeah,
from current good looks. It's one thing to move from you know, the big sky or the sky Tin conference or some weird ass satellite conference to a bigger conference, But moving from the Big twelve to the SEC why was that ever even allowed? And that there's be lawsuits over this? Because this
and there's gonna be nil lawsuits. The NCAA, a lot of their conferences are about to go bankrupt if they lose this big lawsuit that's been hanging over their head, and that's part of this super league's Okay, so this guy, this is what sucks. The committee that's created the super league is called College Sports Tomorrow. Okay. But I used to stroll my eyes and stuff like this and go no, And then I saw what happened with LIV and the PGA Tour, which is different, I know, but the fact that
you could have an earthquake come in and shatter everything is possible. Yeah. Not in the NFL really, not in the NBA. Nothing totally game change. The thing I could see that happened with the NBA is finding a way to go global with international teams if they wanted to do that. But I think that's down the road. But I think this is where they're gonna go realize, Okay, we might be better doing something like this if we lose
this lawsuit and then you need more money. And that's what they're basically kind of saying with this group is like, Okay, well, we're just telling you this could be better for you. It eliminates all that conference crap that we all hate anyways, which you know, traditionalists will still like it. But I think if these this nil lawsuit is bad because they weren't paying people,
okay, and now all of a sudden they are. So these people who weren't getting paid are like, well, f you, this is a class action lawsuit that is going to bankrupt some a lot of colleges and that's how is that good? There's one hundred and thirty teams in FBS, so I think, like, I think they should listen. Why not listen? I don't know, I'm just thinking about it. Why not listen to it?
I think it's a volatile thing right now, and I think NIL has freaked out everyone and we have like what fourth thousand kids in the transfer portal every off season. Now, like the loyalty of the student athlete is no longer with any school they transfer the hell out of it. The loyalty for school the conference is completely gone. So yeah, I think a lot of the smaller schools and conferences would listen and want to be part of this. But the power is in the hands of the SEC and the big ten more
than any other. Think about how more valuable because they have the biggest briefcases. Yeah, and getting bigger and poaching the other big schools like they've almost done it. They've almost succeeded in the Pac twelve the take, yeah it's gone, and the Big twelve. Yeah, sort of, they're hanging in
there, but YE have kind of snuffed them out. Yeah. Uh, And it would make I think more and no one thinks about the it's a it's the little man should be thought of here because there's one hundred and thirty schools and that's where it's like they'd be valuable content by making some those games
matter to more people. Then if you're already paying them anyways via nil, if you're kind of taking care of that, you're just doing NFL junior, why not do it and in a more I don't know, structured way that's not illegal. No, I like this, it might be illegal. And American sports fans have often been curious about that relegation system and feeling how it would apply to a sport here. And it's certainly interesting and yeah, college football is a great one, but I don't know how how that would ever
make it all the way through. It'd be it'd be a long road, I think. Uh. On the same topic here, I have some audio of John Rahm Okay, John Ram Sports at seven. No, it's Uh, it's not because I got a couple of coway things. I want to run by you, guys. But John Raum won the Masters last year. Guys, remember that what a day won the Masters. I like John Ram. John Raum was like John Ram, so he went to live and then you don't hear from him much because he's quiet and he doesn't talk a lot.
But he didn't interview with ESPN's Marty Smith. It's kind of interesting. This is uh, John Ram being asked why live was right for him? Why was liv golf the right decision for you? Well, the best way I can explain it is Live Golf wasn't a thing or a possibility for us growing up. PGA Tour was the pinnacle of golf. Right, this is a new change, a big change, And I don't want to skip through this point because there's no point a big change on the way the golfers get
compensated. I'll be lying if I said he wasn't a big part of it. In a nutshell, I'm getting paid more to play the same sport and have more time. I don't know about most people. That sounds great to me. Thank you for saying it. Jesus finally, God, yeah, Phil off To gets tiptoed around, and we all know it's the reason they handled a large bag of money. Isn't that what we all want? We want to make make more money and have more time to ourselves. That's the
American dream. I know he's not American, but that is truly yea more time, more time to to do what scour scour the porn sites. So that's a very honest reply. Yeah, and he's always struggling because it's funny to watch these live dudes do interviews like why do you choose live? Oh, it's just an exciting opportunity, you know, and they always then you know I do. They'll touch on you know, my family comes first, which is a force field that you can't really argue with, but it's it's
a massive bag of money to do the same job. That's why it felt like he fought it for a minute because, oh, there's no point in skipping over this. Two years ago though, he came out and publicly said I am committed to the PGA tour, and Marty Smith said, what made that change? From when I said that, circumstances changed the PGA tour and PIF got into this agreement framework and they agreed to maybe work together in the
future. I think it opened my mind too. Well, maybe I've been a little bit close minded towards this, and maybe I should give myself a chance. Right as an athlete and entertainer, I think I owe it to myself to hear the other side out, and that's what I did. What were your biggest concerns prior to that moment? I think that my biggest concern
a little bit of negative media backlash. The way I see it at the end of the day is I have the right to do what I think is best for myself and my family, period or six hundred million dollars, I don't know, that's the answer. I kind of like how he did it, though, because he did he stood his ground. Yeah, he said no for a year years and then the news busts that live Gulf Ball at the PG, which we don't even know what the hell that means. But
there was some sort of merger. We definitely or near merger. And then you can watch that new full Swing Rory rom They're all going palms up like I'm sorry what we've been fighting against this and standing tall and standing with you spears in hand, and now I'm sorry what And I think John Ram that day said okay, and he went back to live and probably got one hundred million less than whatever his initial offer was. And he said, where's my
pen? And that's why I wouldn't be surprised if Rory still does it, because Rory was the loudest one. Now I love how he didn't, because you know how when people pivot and make a different decision on something they were perceived to be dug in on, and they'll double down in some way or try to wriggle their way off of the hook, or or lie or just out and out lie and you and it's so obvious. He said what everybody should say is, yeah, I felt this way. Then circumstances changed.
I reevaluated, and I changed my mind. What is the shame in all of us doing that? No one's really mad at John Rahm. I think everyone's kind of like, all right, I guess you had to do what you had to do here. He was scared that that he was going to sit there say no to let's call it two hundred and fifty million dollars.
It may have been more than that. Whatever three hundred million whatever, say no to that, and then wait a year or eighteen months, and then there's some merger and we're all together anyway, and all the guys who fought the good fight in finger quotes don't have one hundred million dollars in their accounts, and all these guys who are now back anyway have a couple hundred million dollars. He was scared of that, and he's as quick as he could.
I bet said, all right, fine deal, do it. We're all gonna be back in the same spot eventually anyway, so why not do it with three hundred million dollars in my pocket? Is the moral dilemma of here we go here, okay, crazy adress. Every golfer who goes to live has to answer the question, what about the sportswashing allegations? I think the fact that they've made an effort to be involved with the PGA Tour and support the PGA Tour all along is a testament that they're not there to take
over and make the PGA Tour go away. I think it is that simple. I never knew if that was the goal or not, but after talking to the people in church, I know that's not the that's not the goal. That's wrong. Greg Norman wants the PGA Tour demolished. He's wrong. He's either naive or he's lying, but he is. That is not Greg Norman wants nothing more than the the PGA Tour thrown off a cliff into shark infested waters, preferably off the coast of New Zengle, New Zealand, and
he'll be one of the sharks swimming down under. He's the great white shark. Have you talked to Rory and Tiger? What do you think think you said for Rory and Tiger? Wrong? Yeah, no, to be tight with both of them. Who was it that said Tiger would didn't return his calls anymore after? Who after flipped capa? Yeah, I think you ready for this? Yeah, Rory? Well, I mean Rory has been supportive publicly of my decision, and uh he was privately as well. Tiger.
No, not really. I'm in Tiger. I texted him and the people that try to reach out you know, the process when I signed, and I just let him know, Hey, you know, this is a personal decision. I have nothing against anybody. I want to make one thing clear. You fellowed I was still supported PG turn DP World Tour. I'm not giving up, and there's still some events I would love to absolutely play, no doubt about it. If my schedule allows, I would go on playing.
He's like everyone else though, oh well him more than anyone else. I'd love to take the live money and also play in some PGA Tour events, right, And that's wh the PGA Tours like right now. They are right inevitable that this will get back together. He'll get back together, and he'll have a quarter of a billion dollars in his pocket. This is the last one. This is really interesting to me because I, well, again
he's the Master's Champion defending his title next week. I'm very hopeful that there'll be a path back to all of those things. But I can confidently say that if I hadn't won the Masters this year, I don't know if I would have done it. It definitely set me up in a position to where it's easier to make that change. And if I hadn't won a major, if I would have ever done it. Basically, I want a major, so now I can play in the Masters every time. So I'll just do
that and the tournaments that matter. We get to play in those. I mean, he said he wouldn't have done it if he didn't win the Masters, he would have stayed. He'd already won a US Open though. Yeah, and live golfers are in the Masters, I guess some of them, those that, yeah, are good at some of them. So basically, these guys can play in the majors, right, most of them. Those they are qualified, They are qualified, and they don't have to grind it
out playing the valeros of the world. And I have to deal with san Antonio man funkin' intilm on the fifteenth. You playing to live in Miami this week. Yeah, they don't money. Yeah, they don't have to roll the dice in these tournaments that you might not even make the cut, right, and you may and you make zero moneis whereas you know, you play in the sanctioned live events, I guess, and you've just got a guaranteed paycheck and it's a lot. Yeah. I thought that he was very honest.
I questioned a little bit about his response to the you know, the moral question that has to be asked. He kind of sidestepped that he didn't know what to say, But what do you say anyone listening, I'll just apply it to you too. Listen, here's my offer. You only have to do a show Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We're gonna make it a two hour show. Yeah, and I'm gonna I'm gonna pay you in a lump sum, the entire sum of every dollar you've ever made in your
entire life. Okay, are you interested? Do you want to talk? Now? You're meeting with a guy that represents a you know, a country that is known for X, y Z, yeah and all the other letters. And that's very terrible. Where's the it's really Yeah, you look done in our country. Where's the masters is exactly hallowed Brown? Yeah. Oh well, I'm sick of that stuff. Let's talk some sports. Yeah, okay, we haven't done it yet. Sports and Seven's next, Cowboys Draft
primer I got. I'm gonna how about some hockey talk? Oh, it's some hockey. We're gonna get you hard next
