For me, I stayed in the same time slot, so I didn't have to go through the feeling of have you been demoted? I know, don't worry with that, And they're like, what about the Bean song? And I was like,
that was actually November or December of twenty twenty two, was it? And you don't remember that because Taller Blow or Cavio last November. So that's Wednesday, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving last year me and Julie Dobbs and Jeff Cavan all the speakeasy, which you can hear from two to six every day. We did drinks giving right after the show. Oh yeah, when you guys went out the Greenville ab Yeah, we went. We were off the air at eleven am and we went straight to the bar. That was a good bit
and we drank all day. I was following it. Tumped over that night at Greenville Avenue. Pizza fell on my back. I could have broke my back. Dude, did you fell out of the bar stool? I mean it was. It was an incredible twelve hours, ending with some karaoke, of course, and we just bar crawled up Greenville Avenue and back down and it was amazing. And I was like, I could have done it this year, but you were going to Florida. And we also got off at
ten instead of eleven. Now that feels different. It feels a little different. And Danny's, you know, got a two and a half year old kid. I just felt like, you know, drinksgiving wasn't gonna happen so much. But I was like, that's a year. You know what's crazy about that day is we were broadcasting live from KATS Media Group, damn, because we had a problem here in the building and we were broadcasting at a
temporary location for a while. And it's reminded me of how fast last year went when we launched in early October and then did you know, three months essentially shorthanded and we were doing a little extra too, and we were jumping on the afternoon show. So I mean, it's been like to have a full year to grow and keep bringing new people aboard has been really cool and
I want to commemorate that next week. We'll do that probably at either eight or nine am next week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I've got the clip show countdown all I love it long. I can't wait to hear who wins and funny old stuff. But also, at some point next week, should we not do the sounds of Baylists twenty twenty three. I'm okay with this. Way, No, it's not me today, baby, it's a little tail my friend Kevin Turner, who was in New York last week or a weekfore, weekend before I left for New York on Thursday, November sixteenth, okay, after the show, and maybe I took that day off. I remember, to my knowledge, something happened right before you left, and you kept us under wraps. I mean, why would there's no reason that we would need to know
this sort of thing. This is a very large, I guess decision that many men face in their lifetimes, and you pulled the trigger on something very huge, and I think it's appropriate that you tell your friends here in the morning about it. Well, as you know, I only I really like to pretend that I don't want to talk about myself. Yeah, I want to create the idea that I'm not an egomaniac. So I was like, gonna cut, I won't tell anyone, that'll be cool. Yeah, So
it was I had plans to go to New York. There was on the slate for a while. And I've been living with my girlfriend Roxy for about
a year and two months. I mean, we got a house a month before the station launched October twenty two, right, so we've been living together untraditionally, I know, so sorry if that offends anyone, for uh little every year with the idea, and by the way, that includes a one and a half year house hunt when the market was crazy, you know, but she did not, you know, we did not live together in an apartment or anything like that. She can hang out and stay on weekends and
things like that, but we weren't living together. But we've been together for over five years, maybe six at this point, and it's that kind of need a twenty twenty three will probably be the time we're probably gonna do it. And then one of the summer months towards the end, I went bought a ring, just kind of kept it hidden for a little bit. God, rings are expensive, I do, you just do your thing and we'll
go back with the Q and A portion. I didn't get it at the Diving Factory Smart and David Blank was awesome, so thank you to him for the help ticket carry you. He and li Anne took such good of me. Really, they gave me a free ring. No, they did not give me a free ring, but they, you know, help me understand, because you don't know the first thing about diamonds might let's face it, let's face it, you don't know. So I kind of hit it, and I was like, okay. I thought that she would have in her
head a couple of ideas he might do this in New York. I thought she was thinking that without knowing. But I thought she was thinking that. Now I cut out all of the people who you're supposed to probably get in touch with. I cut out. She's got two very close friends. One lives in Seattle, one lives in Washington, DC, or college roommates. And the last time I saw them back in the spring, they're like, hey, let us know, we can help you set this thing out.
Yeah, And I was like, great, But also I got this. So I went in September, maybe it was early October. I went to my buddy Josh Babb's place. It's called Massume. For my money, the best sushi in town. So go to Massume if you want. But I you know Bab. You know, we've all known each other for a long time. Josh Bab's awesome dude. Ownds a ton of restaurants in town. And I sat down with him and I said, hey, man, I don't want to ask, like for favors or anything, but have you ever
done this type of thing? And could we do it here? I don't want anything in public, but can we do it in your speakeasy? So back through massume, you walk back through the kitchen, you're led back there. There's a speakeasy called a Kai. It's a great cocktail lounge. And I was like, that would be perfect. I think I could do that the night before we go to New York, you know, kind of catcher off guard because you want a surprise her. Yeah, And those rules were
laid out up front. By the way, we're not one of those We're we're one of those couples that at least had talked about this, okay, like I had sent her to the diamond factory to get her to get measured. Oh really, So like the rules were laid out very clear to me. I don't care, just surprise me really Yeah, and hey, new knowledge to me, and I am not a romantic either, pretty like okay whatever. So you know, learning that was like, well, that's that's
tough, and that makes you pretty nervous too. By the way, you have the responsibility of handling that and getting it right. And we did that with Cash's birthday party. Yeah, I didn't have anything to do with it. But so we walked back or Josh goes, yes, let's do that. I set up Ashley, who does some social media work for us here on the station or some freelancers, but she's a photographer and I had been in communication with hersday are you free on the fifteenth, and she has absolutely
anything for you. I got you, It's okay, great, and here's my day rate. Yes, you know, I think she cut me a break too. That could be wrong. So I got with Josh Bab who runs the restaurant and the speakeasy, and I was like, I need you to send a text to me that I can copy and paste to her, okay, and say like we're doing some type of thing and a ki it's a you know, a friends and family cocktail hour type thing. Okay, So he well, I should find it. But he writes out this text,
Hey, guys, Wednesday night. It's just gonna be seven to eight o'clock. It's a friends and family cocktail hour. We're rebranding a kai, so it's just celebrating, you know, we're changing up the look on the inside. So you know, just if you can come by, yes, you know, not overly fancy, but you know, dressed nice because that's the key. Yes, I gotta know what to wear. I love it. And I was like, okay, so I got that. I copy and paste it and send her the message like, you know, hey,
can we do this day before we say? That'd be fun. I think that's why I took off that Thursday morning. M M. This is let me just flying out. Anyways, this shit had tacked off and got a bunch of vacation days left. And so we show up and you go through the front of a sume and Josh walks me back to the speakeasy. He was there waiting for you. He was there waiting for me because he's got to lead me back there anyways, and he goes, okay, guys,
I just got to get grab a couple of things up front. But I think people are going to be arriving soon, so y'all could just you know, have a seat back there? Were you the only two people back there, yes, besides Ashley who was hiding. Okay, so you walked through this lounge. Oh, first of all, you walk through the kitchen and
assume, and then walk through the lounge door open. And I had sent Josh about a five song playlist of songs that me and her kind of like and share might mean something to us, right, and so that's playing on a loop and we're the only ones in there. So I'm I'm like, okay, I pulled this off. Because she's expecting people to be here. I'm thinking she's gonna get it real quick. She didn't, and I kind
of walking fast. Josh had lay it out two He laid out a champagne bottle and two glasses, you know, on a bucket and put it on this table, like right when you walk in there, you see that. Well, you had to walk to the backcause Josh go's go sitting there. You can go sit in the back. People will be here soon. So I start walking. I see Ashley who's hiding back there, kind of barrel rolls and gets up in starting running. She's got the camera, but she's
trying not to be seen. And Rocks was wearing shoes that she either like new shoes heels that were like she'd ever worn before, so she was kind of behind. I'd left her behind because I was like, where am I going? I didn't fully know exactly where to go. I just need to go to the champagne. And he was like, so I see it. Ashley rolls out and goes kind of near the bar and has her camera and then, you know, very simple, we kind of stand there for a
minute. That's a champagne. That's cool? Is that for us? I don't know? And then I just dipped down and probably said something like you wouldn't do it or what? Yeah, something like that. It wasn't like a formal did you really will you marry me? You didn't know. He said, what do you say? Do you know the thing? You said? Do you want to do the thing or something? I don't know.
I don't come on, Yeah, I am shaking and just wanted the day to And she even said she goes you were acting weird on the drive down, and I was like, yeah, so was I was. I to the best of your knowledge, what did you say when you hit your knee boobs and ass hot, hot hot. I think I said boobs and ass hot, hot hot and just tossed the ring at her. Are there any other Kevin drops? I might have said one of those. Yeah, And she was just surprised. She was she had no clue, no clue.
And when you put on your your toe ranked suit, she looked incredible and well, yeah, and the top ranked suit. And I struggled to find a real good undershirt for but we got it done and then went to New York. And then that's not weighing on your mind in New York because I had considered doing it in New York. But then I was like, that's plus, no photogs in New York want to think about it, and it would have been expensive, and you got to meet someone. I was like,
let's do it. Let's keep it in the house with friends who can help you get get the job done. And yeah, so there we are. That's your story. That's how you surprised someone. I thought I did good. I was like, for a guy who didn't put a ton of thought into it for the entire year, like I know, I was probably gonna do it, but you know, once you're up against the eleventh hour. I think that's a phrase people use once you're up against the like,
Okay, we've got to find a way to get this surprise done. You're kind of in a spot where you better come up with something good, and I think I did good. Yeah, I don't know. So, yeah, we're gonna get married one day. Which here's the thing. Now, I got about five seven year window the clock started on. Yeah. Now I told hush it back my brother and my mom and dad, like I texted them like it's happening tonight or whatever, you know, so they knew.
What. Looking back on it terrible because what if she said no? That would have been awkward. And then she was like, okay, well I don't I want to go to New York. I don't want to tell my parents yet. So we go to New York, spend five days there, come back, had a beautiful weekend. Oh my god, we had a great weekend. But then she's like, I'm gonna go tell my my parents and my siblings, and then I thought we needed to her family's place
for Thanksgiving on Thursday. She's wearing this huge ring, and the ring looks biggercause she's got tidy hands. Hot. Yeah, so the ring is really blinging and no one really said anything, and I'm like, hey, someone's gonna say something, and if they did say something, I wouldn't have known
what they were saying anyways. Yeah, so she finally told all them, and then I told some you know, grandparents and a couple others over Thanksgiving break, and then last night it was like, it's the world we live in, Mikey, everything's about a post, the only reason we're doing any of this. So the post went out last likes and the comments have been amazing. Everyone's been really nice. People on text are already being very nice. This morning. Everyone was happy for you. No one thought I could
do it. No, they thought no woman would have me. Well, Roxy is beautiful and funny and awesome, and I love her company every time. I'm lucky enough to do something with you, guys, and I think you're both lucky. Did she was there any water works? Was she emotional? Indeed, one of our other really good weekends, and we don't have many together. says I go to the urinal. I'm in there and this song starts playing. Okay, so I'm going number one. We'll drunk, and I'm like, this is awesome. What is this? What's the horns coming out? Clearly? Then they come Okay, So I walk out of the bathroom and I go and she's like, waiting, if I go Shazam, what is this shazamed? She quickly shazam's this song and we'll never forget that song.
We'll always have a special meaning to us because of I heard it while peeing and then we were saying we were about to leave the bar, but it was like, this song's incredible and she found it and it's called Look by v Game. WHOA. Yeah, well, dude, I'm very happy for you. I mean, she's amazing, as are you, and she's the best. Man. Are you excited?
