It's The Downbeat on ninety seven to one, the freak TikTok. Yet I'll stop down to the TikTok yet, I'll stop down to the TikTok Yet, I'll stop down to the tick took Yet I'll stop the We did a five pair of tickets to see Adam Sandler in the last segment. Congrats to all that won and keep listening throughout the week. We have three more tickets, three more pairs of tickets to see Trevor Noah to give away later in the weekend. I've been in Skinner, given with Shaky Graves tickets. The DownBeat's
given away some big tickets as well. We had given you things here on ninety seven to one the free and all we asked of you is just to listen to us. That's how you give us and you grab a podcast. We podcast every single segment we do. This show specifically starts at six am. We're called The Downbeat and uh we uh will post everything so if you want to catch up on something. We had a pretty in depth conversation on
Mark Cuban selling the MAVs a little bit earlier. We'll get in that little bit more though, as the day moves on Mike last night, that's on the phone. No damn with who. I don't want to tell you. My phone kept cutting out, you know. So every time you're on the phone with someone and your phone cuts out, mm hmm, you assume it's them. Yeah, they're they're in a bad spot, they're in a tunnel, or they're going Yeah, they're in a tunnel. They're always in a
tone. We don't have any tunnels or overpass though. Put your phone will cut out when you go in an overpass. If you have my cell service, well you're thinking about dropping, Well I think you should. Why don't you drop it? It's time to get the fourth wireless network. Do what everyone else is doing. Man call eight five five five five boost or go to boost infinite dot com. Just do that, Just go to boost infinite dot com and you can read exactly what I'm talking about here, Bubba.
It feels like the best play is to just do that. Mm hmm. I think it would be irresponsible to not do that. Imagine if you're under this underpath, right, there's traffic. You're stuck in this underpath. I don't know whatever service you're linked to or connected to it's not working. Imagine if zap You're already on the best closest one, zapp, and then when you get out from the underpaths, you go to a different one. I
don't know how it works. That's why boost Infinite has it all figured it out and they just zap you to the best possible network carrier and then you're working full steam ahead. Bubba, that's the I'm bubby, but Bubba me magic. You know what you turned And this shows how spoiled we are probably with technology. But on Monday, for whatever reason, my in my desk computer here in the building, I just just having struggles. You know what, you want to turn me into a little bitch boy. I watched it
fash than anything else. Take away my internet at will. If you take away my internet, even at hell of my router goes out for a little bit. I'm mad. And that's because we're spoiled and we're conditioned to have these things work. And you get a fourth wireless network out there like boost Infinite, who's able to bounce to the best nearest network just like that, it's already done in and then you just bounce back to another network task do
it all online too. You don't have to go into some store and talk to someone. Goofy kid all online at boost infinite dot com. What's better than that? How about the news? It's baby what fortys take it? Take it? Boner? I guess magic, Michael handleis. It's Dingo's Morning News. It's brought to you by an American pizza kitchen. Just delicious. Oh. I don't know if they don't even need like a zinger or slogan
or anything. Just damn delicious. I've been craving Chicago style and I haven't even had it there, Dude. All I had was Detroit and Dallas style. I just want the fat boy, the deep dish, that thick. It's cuffing season. Give me the big deep dish, Daddy. It's a cheese pie, right, It's essentially a cheese pie with meat sauce. Oh my god, your iPhone map will show you the way head over to double APK. Don't clap, don't do not clap. All right, we talked
about it earlier and we're going to talk about again. But I mean, this is massive. Uh That Mark Cuban has apparently decided to sell the majority interests in the Dallas Mavericks. That is a basketball team that this radio station is the radio home of to a woman named Miriam Addelson. Miriam a lovely woman named Miriam Addelson, who is the forty fifth I believe, richest person on planet Earth. I am tire fifth oldest, oldest, fifth wealthiest woman
in the world and its oldest else I mean that at all. And she is the person in charge of the Las Vegas Sans Corp. And they formerly owned a bunch of casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. They sold I think all those in twenty twenty one, and now they own a couple of international resorts and casinos. She's very wealthy. They are very vocal and significant donors to Republican politicians in our state nationally as well. I believe they were the
largest donor to the presidential Trump campaign in sixteen and twenty twenty. This is their jam, but they also are at the forefront of the casino and resort world. And we talked earlier and again you can download the podcast from the six to thirties segment about some angles of this, and I think we just
kick around a few more here because it's massive. This kind of hit me since the last segment we did what if, because we know Mark Cuban has been infatuated with this idea of a new Mavericks arena in the middle of a resort in Casino. He said it verbatim. Here's the quote. My goal, and this is two years ago. I believe my goal, and we'd partner with Las Vegas Sands, is when we build a new arena, it'll be in the middle of a resort in Casino. That's the mission. And
that was a year ago, December fifteenth, twenty twenty two. And you know he, I think thought that it might be a twenty story Madison Square garden like structure with window views of Dallas and fans arriving in autonomous cars, a view of the future. But that's what he wanted a year ago, and now nearly a year to the date. What we didn't expect was the sale of the majority ownership of the Dallas Mavericks to a to that exact company
that he mentioned before. I bet it makes him sad knowing what the AAC is. Not that the AC's a bad venue, but almost what it's turned into from a sight seeing standpoint, with all the high rises around it. You can't even see it from the highway anymore like he used to be able to. Yeah, and I bet, I bet he doesn't love that. But for him to have mentioned specifically the Las Vegas sands a year ago,
Yeah, the work that he's been the works for a while. And I do think because of the way this thing is structured out where he will maintain his job of, you know, in the organization, still being the head of basketball operations or whatever, which is rare for something to happen the way this seemingly is happening. It does need to get proved approved by the NBA and whatnot. So I win win for everyone, probably is what this probably
was. Yeah, is it? I think so. I don't know what changes with the Dallas Mavericks as a result of this, but do people. That's why the real reason for it is the mystery, and I or is it a mystery? I think the real reason is this probably helps facilitate facilitate legalized gambling and casino gambling coming to the state of Texas. I'm pretty sure that's the case. Every major sports franchise in Texas is already part of something
called the Sports Betting Alliance. It was formed in twenty twenty one with the objective to legalize and regulate sports betting here thirty one other states have already sanctioned this sort of thing, and we in Texas, in most people's minds, will be one of the last ones to do it. So that's what I'm thinking. It will be the same way with marijuana too. Yeah, does I don't think human needs the money now to buy something for what two hundred
and thirty five or two eighty five? Yeah, we bought it four just a fifty million dollar discrepancy that I just threw around flippantly to eighty five is what he bought it for. And then he sells it for I don't think it was the three point five billion. I think the percentage that he sold was closer to two billion dollars, as he still will maintain, you know,
forty something percent of the franchise. But I'm like, did he do this knowing that that's his goal and it's going to be so dirty that he can't get it pushed through or he doesn't want to be at the forefront of getting it pushed through and have to have a different majority owner whose expertise is this sort of thing and has a long history of contributions to Republicans who in this state will determine the legality of casino gambling and legalize gambling in this state.
Is that a factor? You don't just conveniently sell it to a casino company that you won year ago, said that'd be a great partner for us to finally achieve my dream. So it's taking a minor step back to put them at the forefront. Them be the bad guy, if you want to call it bad guy, and force this thing through, because you're gonna have to go to war with the contributions of the Native American tribes in Oklahoma,
whose nightmaret is for the legalization of this thing in Texas. That's their job up there is to make sure it doesn't happen here, and they have a lot of financing to ensure that it doesn't happen. And that's contributed to why it's taken so long and continues to take take a long time. I wonder if that's part of it. Is this gonna be so bloody and our Cuban maybe doesn't have the direct expertise to handle this sort of thing, and you need a big dog in here. That can make this happen and make it
happen faster than it was happening under Cuban's watch. Does that make any sense to you? No? I mean, I think you're right. I think you're all over it. But this is like everything in political type situations, it's always about negotiations and allies, like big brother guy alliances. That's right, huge, and that's how you get stuff done. And I think I think it's exactly what this is unless we somehow here that Miriam Maddelson and her
family want to be heavily involved in the Mavericks moving forward. But I don't think we have any evidence of that well, because we're just not learning who she is though, you know, oh yeah, but we aren't paying real close attention to the real swing and d's of this world. And I imagine many are, and they know exactly who this family is and probably have for a long time. I mean, they sold a percentage of their stock in
their company, the Sands Company, to facilitate this purchase. They already own, her son Maton owns Israeli basketball team, Hip Pole Jerusalem. I mean, you know, I don't I don't know if it's as cut and dry as just the casino thing. I tend to think it is, because then I go back to why would Cuban sell I don't think he needs the money
because you could sell them but keep basically continuing owning the team. That's I mean, I think, as I'm trying to get as wild as I can with it with this, I keep coming back to the base point of I think it was a business deal that he kind of just couldn't turn down, and maybe something that he's seeking out for the arena and all that stuff. But like at the bottom line, the factor is I can sell the Mavericks
but essentially own the Mavericks. And that goes back to the category of I don't know how billionaire life is. I know, but there has to be pride and power in knowing that you are the owner of the Dallas Mavericks that you don't have this morning. And I again realize the deal has not been
finalized, but that's a big part of his identity. I think. Is that enough of his identity to offset the billion two billion dollars that he's I guess pocketing as a result of this, And how much does he need that two billion dollars and what that's two billions for, is it let them take the lead, get this thing pushed through, and then buy the team back from them at a five hundred million dollar profit to them. Yeah, maybe
that seems like a lot, though I don't know. And I think we're also dealing with someone who's got more money than him right way, So they wouldn't They probably wouldn't take that deal. They probably would try to keep the franchise in their name. But why And I don't care how many billions for the investment if you have a right Yeah, well yes, no, no, I get that. Cuban at six point two billion according to quick Search, this family at like forty five billion. Can you believe that he sold
broad dot Com for more than he sold the Mavericks for? That's wild. Five point seven is what he sold broadcast dot Com for in nineteen ninety nine. Seven bill a nap of a and he was wealthy before that, but in the snap of a finger, him and Todd Wagner turned into multi billionaires. That Fast Silicon Valley was a wild TV show, and just the whole tenure of Mark Cuban, it's been wild. It's I do do people like him around here. I do. I like, you know what, let
me tell you I do. I think there are a lot of people who are hot and cold on him based on like billionaires. Oh yeah, you know you just we inherently resent and probably dislike most billionaires. Let me tell you this, and I don't think we ever said this on my previous station. Mark Cuban would come to the Normathon almost every year. And I sat right next to Mark Cuban as he requested that it I don't think he said, I request this remain anonymous. Thats why I don't feel bad about it.
This is ten years ago. He pulled out his personal checkbook, like and it's a check that looks just like you and your grandma's checkbook that you may be able to find in your house because we don't use them all that much. And he wrote a check directly to the Normanthon, directly to the Austin Street Shelter, which is the probably the best homeless shelter we have in town, and amazing people that run it for a quarter of a million dollars
and just like you would pay for your groceries back in the day. I watched him write that figure. I've never seen a check of that size, much less seen one being written. And he folded it in half and handed it to Norm and Norm I watched it. Norm wasn't watching, and then you know, he gave a hug and thank you guys and left and I watched Norm unfold the check for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Didn't ask for one thing, didn't want anything. Yeah, at his root, Mark
Cuban is a good person. Idly it too. Bennetskinna have told stories of the years when I worked to them about donating to Check. And then also he won't talk about it right like we have no the places he gives to, we have no idea about it. And some people still will roll their eyes at things like that too, you know. But yeah, I do agree that Mark Cuban wants to do good and you know, is at his core as a good person. I do believe that, a do you too,
And I don't believe that about many billionaires. And then I don't want to really get back into the whole presidential aspiration thing, but I was curious what you think the national perception is of Mark Cuban versus what our local perception is of Mark Cuban. I think nationally he gets tied into the way people think about Elon and Jeff Bezos. He may not even be on their level. Yeah, and probably don't don't even think about him that much and think
of him as the guy on Shark Tank. Yeah, I think I think that's it. I do think there's something that you said something earlier. It could getting your name out there and then preparing for a twenty twenty eight run. Yeah, because you know twenty twenty four you can't run it as a Democrat. Nothing, he would say, I mean his the financial backing now comes from. If you wanted to run his Republican and take on Trump, he could You just said, you don't want to get into it. No,
I know. Yeah, it's a part of it. That's part of it. And the mystery of this sale begets conspiracy questions and like why, And I guess you don't even have to call them conspiracy to just ask why why? Now? Why? This? I think far more logically is the Casino connection that somehow these people can help facilitate this with their history of payments to Republicans who make this decision. Yes, but every time we asked him for all those years if you have any presidential aspirations, he says, I
maybe when the kids get out of the house. We looked up his kids ages in twenty twenty eight. The kids are long gone, so it could be sort of a through your hat in the ring, get your name on a couple of years as the nation then would view you as a at least as a potential candidate, no matter how much waves you make. And you could do that as an independent, and then you pull out in time to flip those votes wherever you want them to go, which is always what third
party candidates do. They hope they do, or they drink up much needed votes for one side or the other that ends up hurting someone and then in the next election cycle for twenty twenty eight, maybe it's a possibility. I think every one of these angles is like interesting to talk about, but I keep coming back to I think it's like his life doesn't really change much and
he just gets more money. But I don't think, what does someone even if he has one billion dollars of liquid cat I don't know what do you call it? How does his life change if he has two billion more? The only reason in this world if I had one billion dollars that I'd want to have three billion dollars, saying it is because it would increase my chances of maybe owning a sports team, which he just gave up the but also is still doing. If you're still making all the decisions, don't you still
own the team? Does this give the Allison family the ability to think, well, I'm not real happy with it. Some of the decisions that the guy we have run in the team are making. We're the majority owners. My son has owned this Israeli basketball team. He's doing a real good job. I think my son might do a better job. And what's in it for them might be, well, we're gonna get a casino in Dallas one day. I don't know, man, very mysterious. One thing, real
quick new, he tweeted out. Mark Cuban confirmed to me MAVs will not relocate to Las Vegas, because that was another one on the uh, you know, on the quick reaction list of things that might happen on the sans court, Cuban said, coming in to upgrade and hopefully build a new arena, which will hopefully be a Venetian like resort here in that's the goal. So he reiterated that that's the master player he wants. Yeah, and this is and it's for them. It's good because they get Dallas who sans court.
Yeah, if it gets approved, if he gets it, their job to prove it it will get proved, so that he won't the Houston owner. Uh, I think it's important in Texas. The Houston owner I think for Titta is his name. Yeah, he owns casinos. So this is not gonna get shut down. So does this end with them the Sands people getting gambling legalized in Texas with their money and influence. And then Cuban then essentially being a minority owner in this new casino, but still from a which
will decision making far more money. Is the majority owner? Well no, no of the Mavericks. But I'm saying, does this lead to minority ownership in some form of the casino that comes up? Maybe maybe that's a trade off that you're certainly willing to make. And that's how you go from having six point eight billion dollars to twenty billion dollars, which, when you got that much juice, I think is the only thing that makes it move. Gotta make it move, Gotta make it we'll try to make it move.
For Tim Cato from the Athletic he has got good connections on this. He was at the Man's Game last night. Of course, Tim Cato will join us live on ninety seven one. Did you know that my penis was in the Guinness Book World Records and a librarian made me take it out. Come on, duper shake that tiny d that's your joke today.
