The down Beat on ninety seven to one, the freak. Yeah, oh yeah, I know what we're gonna do. All right, nat o'clock, we'll have our San Antonio man on the phone live walking through the wooded area onto the golf course at San Antonio for the Valero Open Field Reporters live right and uh yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun if you've missed some of the build up on that. Fun times on the downbeat and fun times when this man joins your program. No doubt he is going to be part
of the Invited Celebrity Classic presented by Chalk Tall Casinos and Resorts. That is a big old golf tournament at Las Colinas Country Club on April fifteenth through the twenty first. He is a comedian, a movie star, a voice actor, and an approximate ten handicap. I believe is Larry the Cable Guy joining us. Hey man, I'm a thirteen handykaf No I did see the number from twenty twenty one? Are we sliding the wrong direction? Lay in the
tournament itself? I'd be a nineteen handy. Kat had a boy, You're sand bag, You're sandbagging? Huh? I don't play as good in the tournaments. But I'm getting better though. I got a golf simulator, and I know I'm getting better because the other day I only had to let three groups play through. I know I'm getting better. That's my dream. Here's the thing about golf. Golf reminds me of the Department of Motor Vehicles because you play and after the first hour you want to kill everybody in there.
You get so dady. Yeah, but you play a lot of it, man. I think that's your number one hobby, right, You're a golf man, have been for twenty years now. Yeah, you know what, I love it. When you get older, it's about the only thing that you can still kind of participate in and be athletic. You know, I'm not. I'm I love sports. I'm a baseball guy. But get to the point where, you know, you get so old. I'm sixty one,
so you can't down like I used to do. You know you've been down to I've been down to the time I shoot the other day and pull the handy. Oh you're preaching to the choir here, Larry. Yeah.
Yeah, it's the craziest thing. So I can't. But golf is good because golf every now and then you can get a shot like a pro giitch, you can make a pett like a pro gits and and if you're still, if you're in your competitive it's something that you really get hooked at because it keeps the fires burning, that makes you, makes you want to It gives you something else to work hard on accomplished. So I love golf absolutely.
Yeah. A couple of us here, big golf dudes. I gotta ask, we got a hole in one in the career Ledger, I never have. I've come close about four times, but no one never had. What I will say that when I was at the tournament in Tahoe, the acc and Tahoe the American Century in Tahoe, I my first year, I was on that water part three and I rimmed out. I looped out that seventh that that part three on the water. People were screaming. I thought
it went in. I was all nervous. It hit the cup, spawn out, spawn out, rolled only about a foot and a half away. I get up there for my birdie putt. I was so nervous and excited. I drilled it about six foot pass and I ended up four. I ended up four parts almost holding one what from like a foot you four? Jack? Oh yeah, I'm not very good. That's the one h Steph Curry made a hole in one in last year, is right? Yeah,
that is a wild end. He had a dream week deck. I mean, if you if you could draw up a dream scenario in golf, that would be it. But here's a bad bar Buck deck. He'll never have a day good again a golf there's nothing better. He'll never have that again. So every time he goes out now it's just whatever. He'll never beat that. You already had the top. Yeah, Houly, you're on the air here with Dallas people. I think Tony Romo won that event one year.
I don't know. I don't know how many years you've played in that one. But who do you normally play with when you're when you're playing this celebrity tournament? So like that one in Tahoe, and I guess maybe the one coming up here in a few weeks. Well, I have a good time when I play, but out there, first couple of rounds, me and Chuck go out together, Me and Barsley, we like golfing together.
We have good times. He's the one of golfing. Partners out there, So I go with tour a lot and then uh, if he's and then let's see here who they easily pit me with you? They pit me with different people. So I'm gone with well, I'm gone with a bunch of this. I never I'm always on the driving range with Tony Romo, but I've never golf with him. But I have gone a couple of Emmett and I golf Emmett. For some reason, I played with it turns it up.
I know there's sometimes there's a couple of tournaments. I know that I beat him, but he's really good. But when he plays with me, he really turns it up and then kicks behind n For some reason, I don't play with it. If I'm not in his group, I'm playing pretty good. We're pretty back. But if I'm playing with and up boy, so you play with Barkley, I mean I gotta ask how much money are
you taking off of him? On some little side prop bets on the course, Oh shoot, Chuck, and I no bet a lot one hundred grand a hole. Not too much fun money just walking around money. Huh, Larry, let me tell you one thing we don't I'm not gonna get. If I was gonna get what chuck, it wouldn't be now because he's got his old swing back. Now he's there's a lot of people didn't know. I felt back for him because he likes golflick I do, and he really
was struggling. He wanted to play well and he just had that hitch in his head. But on the driving range. Who would never see that on TV. He'd go to the driving range and he was hitting bombs. He's hitting thirty hundred yard drives and his irons were going. He was unbelievable. And then he get out and get in his head. And so I always felt bad for him because I knew he liked golfer. Guy didn't wanted to play good, just could. But now he's getting it back and the hit
is gone. So I don't think. I don't think I beat him now because I think I think you'll start getting in the top fifteen of some of these pretty soon because he's playing he's playing pretty good. That's the fact. This is Larry the Cab. Did you play together one time? He hit a goose? What? Really? Yeah, we were playing one time and this is a famous story. He hit a line. He hit a worm
burner and he hit the drive just a worm burner went down. He goes those who hit the noose and the here hit a goose in the head. Did it kill it? I think? Flopping around on here and there's a bunch of women up there and they were screaming, oh goose. Now did I would expect from Larry the Cable Guy that you would have gone up and much like Graham All would have just snapped that goose's neck and dressed him right
there on the course. Right well, by the time I got there and we started walking, all of a sudden the guy who worked there went over and started swinging it by the neck. They were going even crazy. Buck ahead, get Dylan and evidently he couldn't get it that way, and we get him all calmed down. He couldn't get an He walks over starts drowning it in the walm Jesus, oh my god, the hell it's a women. It was like a horror show for they and there is the craziest thing.
But but yeah, I was chucking a goose. I'm auras song called chucking a goose. This is Larry the Cable Guy joining us here on ninety seven won the Freak He's Gonna Be at the Invited Celebrity Classic presented by Chuck Talk of Sinos and Resorts on April fifteenth to the twenty first is kind of the week of that. It's at Las Comena's country Club. You get free grounds tickets for all three days of the competition and invited celebrity clubs dot com
slash tickets now. Larry obviously, like you, you know, worked hard to get to where you are. You started, you know, on the comedy circuit. I know you were doing tons of radio hits all over the nation. I can't imagine that what that was like, because I think, you know, we're radio guys here, but we've had other side hustles and other things that were like, you know, you're going forward to chase these
opportunities. I can't imagine what that might have been like for you. When you're you're doing this and you're you're tearing up the comedy scene and then all of a sudden you're invited by Pixar to do the movie Cars. That must
have been a big deal for you. Man, it was it was it was a God said I the you know, the cool when you do what you do, you always would like to pull in a whole array of an audience, you know, because if you get a certain audience, you know, the audience grows old when you when you it's kind of like, it's kind of like, I'm a old rock and roll pan and I was a fan of Foreigner, so an Oreo Speedwagon, them group. But it's weird getting old with your favorite rock pad. You know. That is weird.
Man, when especially when you get older and you start thinking about when you were a kids, is you said you're sixty one, yeah, okay, so I'm like, I just turned fifty six, and I think back in the eighties and I think of like bands like ac DC as being ancient, and then when you get older you realize they're only like ten years older than
me. This doesn't make sense, you know what, I got a store you live And if I remember, I was so excited in nineteen eighty seven to have seven throw tickets Foreigner, and here I was in Vegas two weeks ago in line with buffet. Mm hmm, that's crazy. Yeah, yeah, no, yeah it was, but with four sitting here talking saying yeah, hey, then well anyway, it's Uh, but yeah, what was I saying before? I said that when cars came it was really cool because
you know, now I go the young, big Nebraska football fans. So sometimes I go to practice and I'll have a you know, I'll have some big old eighteen year old lineman come up to me and hey, well you made her. I'm like, oh, man, I gotta go get when I got to get a picture, I love you. Mane hilarious and I'm going, man, that is really cool. You know, I've been forever. Now I got college kids and high school kids getting my picture because they
loved made her when they were a kid. So it's really cool. It was. It was a nice deal that came around. And Pixar, well, you know, they've always been really good to me, and it's such a good franchise. It was such a fun thing to make a whole world of cars and that mater he was fun to voice. So and we're still doing Little Lodge and them, so it's been pretty cool. Well, we hope you're still doing MATERA. We have a request and I know you get
probably every day of your life. But Danny here, his son is three years old. His name's Malcolm he just had a birthday and he is obsessed with mater. He's obsessed with cars. It's our favorite thing in the world right now. And he's you're talking about dealing with college kids, there's a whole nother generation behind those kids. Like I said, my son is three
years old and he is obsessed with cars. So Larry, we're thinking if there any chance you could give us a quick shout out as mad to Malcolm, we would be forever graceful, absolutely ready, you got your stuff? Run a ready, Hey Malcolm, Hey, this is mad like I'm made without the time. But am I a beard and a tour the trailer park the jew fans of Major And if you ever get to the Radiator's friends, Dad gum you and me, we'll do some backward driving. All right then,
Malcolm, don't forget you and me. We's best friends. See you later. This is Oh my god. I think I'm gonna cry. I'm not. I'm like, I have tears of my eyes right now because he is going to freak when he hears this. I need a video I will playing as Malcolm's eyes wide what what it's like daddy? And as friends? I love doing that. That's one of the funnest things about getting to do major you get to you get to make a lot of kids' days. So
that's I enjoy doing that. I've been very blessed to be able to have the have that going for me. So that's pretty what a kind sweet thing to do, man, I really appreciate it. All right, Larry Man, I think we'll let you shuffle. Man. We're excited to have you in town April fifteenth through twenty. First. You're gonna be the Lost Colinas Country Club. Uh. Tons of celebs, man, We said, Romo Pudge Rodriguez is in this DeMarcus where we got Roger Clemens. Are you a
Braves fan? I imagine you are right. You said you like baseball. Oh yeah, I'm I'm a big Brave fan. But I'll be honest, I'm a Braves fan. And I became a Rangers fan because when I was last time I was, I was down in Fort Worth doing some stuff for the PBR not the beer the Bulls, and I ran into some of the guys from the Rangers and they were playing the Braves, so they were super
sweet to me. I went and set an owner's box for the Rangers and and I ended up meeting a bunch of people, so I always, uh, they're my second favorite team now, so I said, yeah, I love going down there to the Ranger Ballpark and hanging out and watching the Rangers too, So both, I'm but I'm a huge Breaks fan. I've been a Brakes fan since I was years old. So, well, it's cool you're on board with the Rangers. Obviously a good time for that. Well,
yeah, Glavin. Tom Glavin was on with us last week talking about this tournament and small seer both can be in this thing. So honestly, we're happy to have you in town, and we're are happy to I've had you here on ninety seven one the Freak. Larry, thank you so much for joining us this morning. Brother. Oh you're welcome face for having me today. Come on out and see us. It's everybody super friendly and fun. You get pictures. It's it's a good time out there. We'll come
out there and hug your dang Nick mag No, my Dan. All right, there you go, Larry, how about that? How about Thatt? It's kind of cool this tournament is you know, you have the Edgewood the Tahoe thing, which is sort of the masters of Celebrity Golf. And you have the AT and T Pebble Beach Pro Am, which is sort of, you know, obviously a blend, but dude, sneaky, sneak. The Invited Celebrity Classic is turning in one of the best celebrity golf tournaments in America.
And again we have it here. Grounds. Tickets are free for all three days of competition. You can get Invited Celebrity Classic dot com slash tickets. And it's not just celebs, dude, seventy eight PGA Tour champions, you know, legends, VJ saying justin, Leonard Ratief, Goosen, John Daly is gonna be here. Worth. And also they have this complimentary military outpost that's on the seventeenth Green at the Invited Celebrity Classic. Military members, veterans, first responders all have access to premium views of the course and complimentary lunch and beverages. So they're doing it right, man. And it's a pretty cool event that has grown and grown and grown and now it's it's right right at the top of the
heap of these celebrity turning. I think this is just year three of it too, Like it's it's gotten bigger each year, clearly, but like this thing is gonna be just as big or get as like near as big as the Lake Tahoe Day. Yeah, this is the this Tahoe. I guess the Pebble be pro am is always a big deal, but this is kind of its own little thing. And every year you look at the list and you're like, holy cramp, they've added more to this. Well that's a
lot of fun. And the tickets are free created Celebrity Classic dot com slash tickets if you want to get down on that. And thank you to the tournament. They got a Tom Glavin last week and got us Larry the Cable guy, do stop. Was that about the sweetest thing? I mean, I almost tear it up just picturing a three year old hearing his the his hero car from his favorite movie. He said, Malcolm, we're friends for we're best friends, best friend. God. I can just picture Malcolm eyes
open. Malcolm's gonna ask for his next vacation to be at Radiator Springs. We're not here talking to you and we're like, well, we don't want to like beat down like these like celebrities and ask them to do something like that, right, did I don't like asking celebrities for autograph like that. We're like, well, it's from Malcolm, and I was like, I think he'll do it. I watched an interview that when he was talking about the Pixar thing, and I kind of stole that question and did it where
he just starts crying. It's on TV and he's crying talking about getting that Pixar gig because he watched a few Pixar movies and liked him, and he got that job and it changed his life, you know, clearly. But think about how many people might have just meld in that shout out maybe maybe maybe everyone does it, would have done a good job. He had lines ready to go. Dude, He's done that, probably does it every day. That's why I was almost apologized, like sorry for the whip, or
we're gonna do what was no doubt everyone asked to do. Like he was excited, Yeah, like all you ready, Malcolm, are you ready? Yeah? He counted himself in kind of and then it was a full minute plus, dude, I can't wait to pull that and play it for him. Put the arrow through your head and then play that record. Malcolm, what a palate cleanser. After the sad leave you a segment, man, Guys, can I give you some breaking golf news? Max Homer birdied on
three? No way? Oh my god, it happened during the interview. I'm like, well, there's only one way to commemorate that wondrous occasion, right, Well, we will talk to San Antonio man who will be joining the Max Hoomer Colin Morikawa group. Okay, as he is going to trespass saying through a wooden through the woods the Valero Open golf course in San Antonio.
He's a big listener and that's coming up in a few minutes. But this is to commemorate Maxhoma birdying on three and the fact that San Antonio Man is gonna try to hang out with Maxhoma and Colin Mori Coowa live on our airways in a few minutes. This is Live Golf bought the PGA. Live Golf bought the pg A. How many heads are gone? A roll to day? Lived Golf bought the peg A. Mike Ziroyd broke the news just yesterday, golf bag, clubs, holes, gruff, French Holland one putter,
It's fun. John Rahm, Brian Harmon, Harris English website, sign Justin Rose, Ricky Fowler, Jordan Speeth, Matt Coucher, golf shot, golf shot, golf shot. That's a nice golf shot. Moura Cowhall. You know everybody, Moura cow, Moura cow, mourn cow. Russell Hendley's looking at your He's looking at me me, Tommy Fleetwood's looking at him. Max Holmer. Yeah, to clarify once again, the DP and the DP Work Tour doesn't stand for double penetration. Huh. Shocking turn at the end.
Clarification out of nowhere for no reason. I'm good. No one was wondering that. God, look at these textures, Danny. I even got emotional hearing that dedication to Malcolm. Larry is a good dude. He is a good Dude's amazing, So happy for Malcolm. Yeah, everyone is loving that. How are you gonna Can you play it and you play it off your laptop and record. Yeah, I'll yank the audio after the show, I'll put it on, I'll email it to my Yeah. Yeah, Okay,
email it to me. I'll play it on my computer and then I'll record him put video. Yeah, oh yeah, for sure. Yeah, that way I get video and audio. Yes, you get both. Make sure you're set to both record video and audio. I don't know how to do that, so I can tell you the DP does not. Yeah, just clarify, just to make sure everyone new, Mike, you drive over to Danny's later and set up the recording for him. I'll do the audio and then you just in charge of video. It'll be easier. Yeah,
never been to Danny's. Wait here, if we do it that way, are you gonna tell it? So? Wait? Easy to me? In a good mood, right, and you're like, I have a surprise for you. I probably have to set it up a little bit. You know. Daddy talked to a cool dude today. Yeah, a gold dude wants to be your friend, wants to be your friend? Who is it? Well, you listen, just see what he does. Oh, that would be awesome. We'll play it tomorrow. That is so great. Yeah.
Yeah, and also I just thought, but hearing that song again every time we turn our mic on, I know there's new people listening, right, I'm Kevin, that's Danny and Mike and JJ. Yeah, but I think of the people who might just heard that song for the first time, even though we've played it a million times. So think about next week we will do Downbeat Request Live. That's right. DRL Live. You can call in uh and you basically can request an old clip from the past. If I
can find it, I'll play it. If I can't, I won't. You can request a topic for us to talk about. That's fine as well. If you can hear a song, it doesn't matter whatever it is. DRL. You request it, we will try to do it, you know, and if you won't, do you know? If you have you're no, not right? Well, you can play right now if you want. Don't care your it's my favorite things. KT does a lot that I really
enjoy. But it's you KT describing why you'd be an excellent actor. Oh my god, I don't that's the one I don't have because I don't think like that one. I don't know. I don't know. It was a six AM thing and it was just the most beautiful twenty five seconds. But guys, we were talking about is acting really hard or not? I think is Christine listen to me. It's my acting audition tape. Yeah, here's
a little teaser. I was telling you I took no theater and would have if I would have been ridiculed for it in the hometown that I'm from, and I would be a beast of an actor. And I just because I know how to play it to the camera, I know how to feel out a moment, and I know when the audience is in the palm of my hands. Wanted to crush them, when to elevate them, to send them on the right of their lives. You have a tremendous actor. I also
pull that and we'll send that to some Asians. I also can't get hard talk about a turn coming up next, unnecessary information of a tremendous actor coming up next. We break them with one caveat the only role. What a great choice for I forgot about the part of the rule of threes lives on you put them in the palm of your hand, you crush your you elevate them, but also send them on the Texas Giant. Let everybody know that
you can't get hold you're You're a wonderful idiots beautiful. I'm hard. I'd like to request that for next week during the d r L. Yeah, which we've been pushing back for three weeks. D r L next week tomorrow eight o'clock. Five opportunities to win a pair of tickets to see the Dave
Matthews Band June first at No Seki's Pavilion. Coming up next though, we will get San Antonio man on the free cot line if you have missed it, we'll set it up briefly after the break, but he's basically going to traverse to the wooded area and walk upon the course in San Antonio where they're currently playing the Valero Open. The main featured group is on fourteen fairway right, he's on fifteen ten. This is going to be a blanking disaster next
