This is the downbeat on ninety seven to one, the Freak. All right, a couple of minutes, we're gonna have a former Packers running back in current I can see it was full back and current Packer's sideline reporter John Coon call in. Give you a good look at who the cowboys are up against. This week, Dinger's morning news comeng up at eight o'clock. We're gonna talk about some the downfall of the dating app at nine. Okay, and
that's something that's happening. If you get crazy dating app stories, maybe calling at nine o'clock two and four or eight one seven seven eight seven one nine seven one, and maybe we'll have a little prize for the best story that we get if you have one. That's the nine o'clock segment. But let's tall quickly. I jump into some birthdays, yeah, and antis and things like that. Amanda Pete is fifty two today. Mana Pete uh saving Silverman.
That's really my maybe only reference for her. I don't know other things. She was in a movie in the nineties where where she was topless and it made it was it was like big viral news before things were viral. It was like a big deal in it though. I think it had like Matthew Perry in it or something. I oh, whole nine yards maybe that's what it was. Eight heads in a Duffel bag. No, okay, that's a movie. Might have been yards possibly. I believe she went to
like Harvard. She is ivy educated. Okay, I went to Harvard. No, yeah, you went to the gift shop and got that start the Harvard gift shop and bought a beans. You bought beans at Harvard Beans. You went to Columbia University. Mike's roy sworn enemy, Mary J. Blige is fifty three. She has my sworn enemy. Look, I love Mary J. Blige. I was excited. I went to an NBA All Star game party and it was Mary J. Blige is going to be there as part of the reason. I went like, she sings one song. I'm
gonna love this. If I just see her, I'm like, that'd be cool. And I got dressed up and I went there. It was snowing ass and I drove through it all and I got to this party and then I see the side door open and the grumpiest looking Mary J. Blige walked in and sat right next to that door. For exactly ten minutes or whatever she was contractually obligated to do, didn't talk to one person, sunglasses on,
sat there miserably, and walked out that door. That sounds like one of your former paid appearances at the ticket Let's go meet Mikey you at the Moose Mobile store. Yeah, and I just in my car watching the two minutes countdown until the top of the hour. Oh guys, Yeah, that's all my fans when I walk into a Batteries plus So. Yeah. Since that day, I'm anti Mary J. Blige And it's personal experiences that I think we should determine how we feel about people. You just taught her her
on a bad moment. In ninety nine percent of the time, she's not like that. Okay, well good. If I go to another party where she's supposed to be there and mix and mingle with the good people of DFW and she does that, then maybe it'll change my opinion. I'm sorry, Okay, but you are a peri of larger context, and let's get the full story before we make assumptions. You're going against that a little bit here, No, I, but if I can apply a personal experience to interaction
with a celebrity. I mean, what are y'all's seeing her on stage listening to her songs? That got all sounds nice. That's not the real person. I saw the real Mary J. Blige. I played her in one on one, One Time West part of All Star Weekend. Yeah eleven. Sorry, did she dunk on your little pumpkinhead? Yes? Robert ol keenes sixty eight. Danny Yeah. People love him, think he's probably pretty damn good. Jeff Cavanaugh probably not coming to work today. I don't know much
about him. I don't know anything about him. He do something we know forever and the party never is O. That's good, gym. I like that one. Corpus Christie Bay feeling good again, Gringo. Honeymoon dude is a Texas legend. Okay, yes, I'll make you a playlist. If you went to Tech or A and M, you probably love R. E.
K joining us now on the freecot line. It is what a three time pro bowler, two time Super Bowl champion, current radio sideline reporter for the Packers radio broadcast, former Packers fullback slash running back, honestly offensive weapon. It is John Coon whoa Hello John? You guys? Wow? What an instant right there. I don't know why I deserve that, but okay, thank you, No you didn't. I was just dressing it up. Man. We like to welcome our visitors. How are you feeling? How
cold is it up in Green Bay today? Well, you know what, we've actually had one of those warmest starts to winter that I can really remember. We haven't had one what I consider a cold game at lambeau Field all season long. But as January dropped in, we got about six inches of snow, then another three inches of snow, and now I'm here in a big snowstorm coming in Friday night before we're supposed to take off on Saturday to head down to Dallas. So winter is coming finally. What are you gonna
do on Saturday here in the big city of Dallas. I'll probably try and get some of your guys a fancy barbecue. Right, Whenever you go on the road to some of these away teams, you want to dine on whatever is their local delicacy, and you guys have the best barbecue. So suggestions where should I go? Oh my god, we're going to offend our friends here because there's too many good spots. Okay, first, of all, I would tell you, uh, where you're staying, Jue, what city
your area you're staying in would would help? Yeah, we are in Las Colinas. Okay, okay, if you wanted to zip over to Fort Worth, I would recommend him barbecue. If you up by Arlington, Hertato Barbecue would be an option. Oh yeah, there's too many. I'm gonna leave people out. You guys think. What do you guys think about the ranch and Lost Calenus? Is that a good place? The ranch? A ranch at Lost Calenus? That yeah, right, I don't know that one.
Is that where the Byron Nelson used to be played? The golf course? No, that's cool. That is to where it used to be. Okay, yeah, I don't really know right now. That's where old Texas Stadium used to be. Kind of over there in that area a little bit too, uh but yeah, I don't know. Sorry, what uh barbecue for you? Yeah? I know really, we're not we're buying anything, but
I will say this, it's more than barbecue down here. Now. Sure, come down and eat some barbecue, and you probably only have one night, but we have some incredible Asian delicacies. It's a great food city. It's a great food city, so expand your horizons. Well, you don't just have to do barbecue, you John. Okay, Okay, I'll take your word for it, but I'm doing barbecue. Some of our listeners texted
it and said you should check out Dicky. So well, you know, we'll go ahead and we'll get your number and text you some some good options which we think think I sound good. Okay. So you played obviously from seven to fifteen with the Packers. You know Mike McCarthy really well. I would assume you still keep in touch or know him to this day a little bit. I imagine you probably don't bother him much during the season. Huh.
What is your relationship like with coach McCarthy. Well, it's exactly what you would expect a father figure and a coach that you want a Super Bowl with, to be right. And I stayed living in Green Bay. I was one of the crazies that actually liked it here and decided to stay here after I was done playing football. And in fact, I have a cabin up north that's literally three houses away from coach Mike, so I see him throughout the summer when he comes up here during his time off after the all
season programming before training camp starts. And I can tell you one thing about coach Mike, he is he is one heck of a human being above anything else, and he cares about each one of his players. He cares about winning, and he cares about them after they're done playing too, which makes it a really special relationship. So you're by the barn, the famous McCarthy barn. Is that where that's located. That's that's that's in town in Green
Bay. We also have some places up north in Door County. It's about an hour and a half north of Green Bay, right on the water. You know, Coach Mike, he likes to be on the water. He's got that big old boat that he takes around and likes to show off. Doesn't drive it a whole lot as a driver for that, but he likes
to get out there and show off a little bit on the water. So when you go to the because Green Bay is obviously you know, smaller town, when you go to like the grocery store and things like that, do you get noticed John, Well, yeah, it's a small town. I will say this about the fans in Green Bay. And I played in Pittsburgh
and New Orleans also two other really good fan bases. But the fans in green are interesting because they take such great pride in not having an owner and the fact that this football team is a part of the NFL since nineteen nineteen, that they almost feel like they are a part of the team, not just in the sense of the word as a fan and kind of a feeling. They believe the players are their kids. They believe the players are their brothers and sisters. So they just kind of wave tid, they nod to
you. They don't talk to you a whole lot, they don't bother you a whole lot, but they just want you to know that, hey, they appreciate you and good luck this week. And it's a really cool it's a really cool bond between the fans and Green Bay and the players. So this offense right now with the Packers, I mean, they're playing pretty well. Obviously they had been like the best opponents. They're playing really well.
Jordan Love's kind of been really awesome the last half of the season, maybe one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL the last half of the season. The Packers have a fighting chance here on Sunday, because I mean, I think they are the underdog by a lot. We're kind of talking about maybe I said, a little bit of maybe overconfidence by some of the fans here,
maybe the people we run around with here in town. The Packers have much of a chance on Sunday to you, yeah, I would say the Cowboys fans have reason to have some confidence going into this football game, because when you look at a game like this, you start looking at your your recipe or your script to success. How do you get to a victory? And for the Green Bay Packers, there's several things that have to, you
know, fall into line. For Dallas Cowboys, they could play a sloppy quarter or maybe even a sloppy half and still figure out how to win this football game depending on how that goes. And you know, for the Packers, they're facing a top five offense, a top five defense, and this Packers team, who has been up and down offensively, has hit its stride as of late. But they're gonna have to score some points. Looking that, on the other side of the football, you got Dak Prescott, a
number one scoring offense, and the whole NFL. So I say that to say this Cowboys defense has been so good, but they've they've turned the ball their own opponents. I think that is going to play a big part in this football game, because a lot of their success defensively has to do with the turnovers that they have. The green bit Packers are one of the best teams in the NFL of taking care of the football. If they can play to that, if they can play to their style of football, they can
keep this thing close. Score some points. You've got to be a fishing in the red zone and then keep it close at the end and anything. It could be a coin flip at the end. If it doesn't go that way, if the Cowboys turn the ball over, if the Cowboys score two touchdowns on their first two drives, and this thing turns into you know, Packers have to throw the football and not just be able to run with Aaron
Jones, this thing could get out of control. Being as close as you are to coach McCarthy and I'm sure you've kept your eye on the Cowboys this season and his trajectory. How do you feel about his evolution as a play caller throughout the season and do you feel like it is decidedly different now? Than it was in the beginning. Yeah, I do, I really do.
And I got to say this when coach Michael green Bay, he was constantly evolving, always trying to tinker and tweak the offense as he was calling it, or if Tom Clemens was calling it, or if Edgar Bennett was calling it, didn't matter. He was always trying to tweak it and evolve it. And quite frankly, that's you know what ended up turning into a disaster in seventeen and eighteen in green Bay. The evolution of the offense was not good. It evolved into a bad spot and it didn't resonate with the
players. But I see down in Dallas more of a rejuvenated MIC. He's mixing up personnel groups, he's using shifts emotions very well. He's keeping defenses in a spot where they have to communicate constantly pre snaps that all the checks and balances are done post snap for the defense and that makes it very difficult on him. So I like what he has done, and Dak Prescott has
been exceptional throughout the course of the season. I think he's deserve it of at least an MVP vote, if not making it competitive with Lamar Jackson. So yeah, I like every thing that Mikey's done with that offense down there. But I got to tell you, guys, I'm not surprised this is a John Kuhn former Packers or Are you a fullbacker or running back? I mean, look, they used you at running back sometimes. What do you prefer to go buy offensive weapon? What are you? Man? I'm gonna
call it running back on that one. That's that's the title I'll take right there. Thank you. I appreciate it. Former pack of count looky, Yeah, former Backers running back John Kuhn also does the sideline. He's just
radio open and green Baby also does sidelines for the Packers radio broadcast. So like when you had played the Super Bowl here, that was ice storm weekend here in DFW, And when you played in the game, do you remember much about that week and how crazy it was weather wise because we weren't really ready to handle that type of weather down here in DFW. What do you remember about that week? I remember telling every Texan that I came in contact
with that sand is not the same thing as salt. They don't work the same on the roads. So when you put sand on top of ice, it just stays slippery, it doesn't grab at all. Yeah, we were really looking forward to a warm weather Super Bowl figure and that we were coming from Green Bay. But the snow put us right into our place. And I'll tell you guys this. We were supposed to practice at SMU Stadium,
what you guys know is an outside stadium. We cannot do that that week because they didn't have the ability to because it was kind of ice, but it was kind of snow and it was a little bit of a mush and with that turf field, they weren't really able to make the field safe for us to practice on. So we had to practice at a high school. And I can't remember which high school was, but we I was fascinated by
the fact that we practiced at a high school indoor practice facility. I'm gonna say that again because it wis continent that has unheard of an indoor practice facility for high school. And it was fascinating. It was fun because a lot of us got that throwback field of what it used to be like to be in high school and when you play football in high school, and the smells of the high school locker room and the smells of the high school practice facility.
It was fun. It was kind of bringing us back to our childhoods before we went into the biggest game of our lives. Are you, as I'm asking you, because he's in the headlines a lot, are you in touch with your old quarterback Aaron Rodgers much? Oh? Yeah. I talked to him still from time to time, and I let him know when he gets the world, you know, freaking out about the things that he says, and you know he likes to have fun with that type of stuff.
And hey, here's the deal with Aaron Rodgers man. Unfortunate situation with the Achilles this year. I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do with the New York Jets with that roster and in that market did not come to be. And I'm just wondering, right, he turns forty years old next year, how long is he going to continue to do this? Because you'd like to see him at least be able to finish the season before he calls it a career. Let me ask you a question about Aaron real quick.
And I don't want to linger on this. Part of me believe he wants to believe because I think he's kind of a smart ass. That part of him is just trolling the world with some of his stuff. I was curious, you obviously know him better than most how what percentage of that is real deep belief conviction and how much of it is just, you know, I'm just going to throw a can of gas on it and just watch people react. I would say it's a good bit of both, and I would
say there's also a good bit of sarcasm. There's a good bit of inside innuendos jokes that only his closest friends truly understand, which you would say doesn't make for good theater, doesn't make for good television. But to him, that's what's funny. That's that's how he likes to roll. And he's always
been one to be distrustful of the media in some sense. He doesn't feel like they drive the correct narrative that they should drive, so to that extent, he doesn't care if he throws them off the scent of what he really believes in, how he really feels based on all of the things that he says. But boy, I'll tell you it's polarizing. Appear in Green Bay. It's it's definitely polarizing and that the fan base is one or the other. There's never an in between. With Aaron Rodgers, it was the same.
It's the same story. He's repeating itself though, because it was like that when far of into the Vikings, they hated him for like a year and it's like two three years and they rehabbed it and we're all good now. And I it's kind of like just to even Jordan Love's stats were identical to Aaron Rodgers through like thirteen games, Like the amount of passing yards is the same number. Like, it's just it's just weird how his history is
repeating itself. I don't know, just nothing. Yeah, I really think there's somebody that Green Bay should pull aside and say, we dedicate you to Jordan Love, and we want to make sure that you teach him that in fifteen to seventeen years there's going to be another transition with another quarterback and he's going to be cool with it, because we don't need this type of circus
every time a Halo of fame quarterback leads their guys. That's been fascinating and the fan base here in kareaem Bay has literally watched this play itself out what looks like to be the start of a third time in a row. Who's going to win the Super Bowl? John? I'm calling Ravens forty nine ers
and rematches the game that we saw just a couple of weeks ago. And I'll tell you it's hard to go against the Ravens right now, even with the injuries that they have, especially Mark Andrews, because their defense is so dominant. Their defense dominated what I thought was the best offense in the NFL, which was forty nine ers, and came back the next week and dominated the second best offense and I thought was in the NFL into Miami Dolphins,
dominated both of them. I don't know how you can pick anybody but the Ravens. What's your favorite animal? Oh? We're getting wild here, aren't we An English bulldog? You got one of those? I did? Yeah, I had two of them. What's your favorite them? All to pray upon? To pray upon? I guess, I guess beef beef steak Is that what you're talking about? You give him some good steak and beef. It all comes full circle back to barbecue. Done it? John? All
Right? So we've got I got a spot for you. It's on Irving Boulevard and it's right by where you're staying. And we all know this place. We I don't know if any of you guys have eaten there, but it's called slow Bone. Oh yes, slow Bone is top notch. Yes, slow Bone, and it's on Irving Boulevard. It's like a I don't know if you can walk to it, but it's a five minute uber ride from wherever you're staying. Fantastic, Thank you guys, yes sir, And
now you guys made it worth my while there. Absolutely well. Enjoy your time here in DFW and safe travels and all that good stuff. And we'll talk to you down the road. John, thanks for the time today, man, Thank you guys. Figure there he goes a sweet guy. It's at what a sweet guy. I plug his account at kun k U h
n J thirty. My packers are making he's nice guy. Alumni of Shippensburg College, Pennsylvania kid originally right yeah, Pennsylvania kid for sports stud and went to Shippensburg and then undrafted and then into a twelve year NFL career with two Super bowls. I love undrafted man. He won the Super Bowl with Fire Van with a rod Is that correct? No, just Rogers, he won with Breeze And no, he won with the Steelers in his rookie year. No, I think he went with Drew Brees the year the Saints one.
Yeah, no, no, you're right he won his rookie year. That would have been Super Bowl when the Steelers beat the Seahawks yep, two thousand and six. Oh yeah, I remember that one because I was a senior in high school. Holy cow, wow, when they do yell kun at your TV whenever, I was always highly uncomfortable by that too. Well, the crowd would yell yeah, it's like it's already a bunch of white people. I mean, it's his name, it's not they're not they're champing.
Oh yeah, yeah. I felt like there was probably a few, just a small enough percentage of fans there who were liking it too much. You know, go ahead, just back then, the white full back is one of the uh crowd favorites always, yeah, especially back then when they get the ball a decent amount like he did third one. Yes, yes, he's gonna get it, and he does just truck a guy. Yeah, you know, badass fall apart in his Super Bowl year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
For the season he went had two rushing attempts for eighteen yards and one reception for fifteen yards. Oh yeah, made the difference. MacArthur used him a lot in Green Bay and kind of odd rolls like you'd hand it to him every once in a while and throw it to him a little bit. I mean seeing the amount of touches that he had. Yeah, he had a pretty decent amount of touchdowns for his career. Well. He also said that Cowboys fans should be confident about this game, and I would agree.
So there is that we have a super wildcard pump session in thirty minutes. And also if you've got crazy dating app stories, nine o'clock will be the time for you two one four or eight one seven seven eight seven one nine seven one. We may give a pair of Luke Bryan tickets away during that segment to someone who's got, you know, the story that we relate to the most or enjoy the most. Man doesn't love Luke Bryan because I got
some dating app info. It's Katie's key party coming up at nine. But next Danny, if you want to make an extra thirty five thousand, dollars. Guys, all you need is a driver's license and a willingness to sit on a wiener. I'll explain next
