It's a down gate on laety seven, one of the Free We start at six am every morning. I'm Kevin Turner with Andy Dalis, s Miike, Siroy. That's j J. Jackson producing the show today, and we are continuing on with one more segment before we handed up to the Benniskin Show with Christina Ray, Steve Shafford Speakeasy. After that, Jeff Julie and the Shoe
Pies. Oh my god, what a lineup. Shout out to the guy who's currently at Jerry duty with a single ear ear pod AirPod is this year listening to us, Thank you man, and not not listening to some case that has the dude's life on the line. Don't worry about that, worry about this. Thank the other ears for Yeah, your other ears for justice. Just is that's probably some traffic citationes even know he's just waiting to get dismissed and then not go to work today. I support you. We start
at six am. We've covered a lot of things today, including and order. It's kind of incredible, a new delectable dining outing that you should try in the Metroplex if you want to. So I have to buy Scratch look it up. My feud with Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma town of More, Oklahoma has taken kind of a part two apecually if it continues forth, I've been getting escalated to new heights. Yeah, it all is kind of in
their court now, probably peaked out there. We discussed which Cowboys free agent should stay or go kicked around, who we want as the head coach, what they should do, what we think will happen. We talked about a lot of things in Dingu's morning News good stuff. The indestructible iPhone case is only twenty five bucks. It survived as sixteen thousand football from a damn airplane
from Wild nine one one audio from the Fort Worth Explosions. We got into a lot of this gambling stuff from the Mark Cuban interview with Ben and Skin, which led to us finding out the news broke within the hour as we were discussing it that Amazon has invested in a portion of buying some Bally and it looks like, uh, you know, Bally will eventually be streaming some of their games on Amazon Prime or all of their games on Amazon Prime.
And you know, still waiting on a few details like specifically does that effect Rangers, Maverick Stars, but I think we it does and Mark Cuban, whether we met to or not, kind of said that yesterday here on the Freak, the home of the MAVs who played the Lakers tonight, get with Kevin Gray at seven o'clock for the pregame show and that game will be UH on Bally as well as ABC tonight. National Team. You gotta Luca Wiko's questionable last I saw they you know, and the it was in the report
is an ankle sprain. But it's also quad, right, That quad is just problematic. He holds it all the time. So the other thing that you know, yeah, the iconic television moments, of course, all that stuff. Tomorrow, I'm just sprinkling my top ten iconic television moments of all time that impacted me, and I think you're gonna see some stuff that's gonna
be really incredible tomorrow. You're gonna play that like the time the guy said check your panties instead of check your pantries, maybe more, You're you gonna have boom, goes the dynamite guy on there. My god, Brian from Ball State has to make it, doesn't he? I mean that is yes, probably one. I don't know. It's a cinema. It's beautiful. Why there hasn't been a Broadway production of this? Yes, Miller's looking good. There goes the man. There passes it to the man, the man,
and boom goes the dynamite. Amazing man. Before we get into the best part is boom goes Damite's a cool thing to say. That's the one thing yet written down. He nailed his new catchphrase, goes everything else. He's a horrible job matching the prompter with the with the highlights and prompter person was probably just laughing. Get him on, Bryan from Ball Stay, Yeah he can do that. Yeah, he's at his seventies. Slid to his DM no idiots weird INLLGE. I was in college. I said, we
like, I'm twenty years younger than you. What a maniacal laugh was that for? Troy Aiman decided, Hey man, I'll jump on the Steven A. Smith podcast. I'm ken tractually obligated to do so by ESPN. I know that I decided to sell out and go to Monday night Football. I'm kidding. He didn't sell out a probably get tired of Fox. So Troy Aiightman is on with stephen A. Smith and uh, here he is talking about Dak and I think you guys should hear this about forty seconds here.
Yeah. Well, what I do know, stephen A is that as a quarterback are judged on the wins and losses. Uh And I like that that's the way that it is. Okay. The wins defined my career, and I think there's something to be said for that because even more so today in the NFL than than at any other time, unfortunately for Dak. And I've heard you throughout the day and at other times we all love Dak, we love what he represents, but at the end of the day, it's you
know, he's paid. Everyone is paid to win and it's a bottom line business and they all understand that. Okay. He also mentioned in that a little bit of John L Way too is like the one guy that came to mind, is like a guy who couldn't get over the hump and finally did at the end of his career. So you don't really know until you know
the guys and you see him. We're all asking the Dak question, right, we know Decks, I'll say, great, he's a great quarterback, like look around he is, but they got issues in the playoff games. They start off slow and interesting. Kid, even if you would have lost to Detroit next week, you can't be the two hosts the game run through everyone like you did this year with these fake wins by twenty and then do that they would It ain't Dak's faulted. They would have gave up sixty points
if green Bay played sixty minutes. You know, Greenbay took everyone out too early. But if they play that game completely, green Bay does put up sixty plus points and that's not on Dak, but twenty seven to nothing, some of that's on Dak. A good portion of that's on Dak, and he's gotta wear it. I was, I was thinking about the the remaining quarterbacks in the NFL playoffs yesterday and I was in the shower. I was
nude, fully nude, naked. I'll play this game with you naked, talk slower, and I don't even know if there's anything that really will come with this, but I was like, who are the you know, the remaining quarterbacks and their pedigrees, you know, and what you want to talk about. So in the AFC, you have essentially the three best quarterbacks in the American Football Conference. You have Josh Allen, you have Patrick Mahomes, you have Lamar Jackson, right, I mean, I don't think you'd have
any argument. And then your fourth is CJ. Stroud, who's second pick in the draft, top highest level quality or highest level potential, probably rookie of the year, right, yeah, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean you have sure things, yes, with the exception of the Houston Texans, and you essentially have the next big thing. The NFC is a little different, but not all that different. And you have Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff are both one ones. You have Jordan Love who is a
first rounder, yeah, twenties. And then you have the outlier of Brock Purty, who I don't know, you can't you're not throwing him in the Tom Brady bin yet. But there are some dudes who come in and just are really good and seemingly fit perfectly and fit the offense that you're joining perfectly. But I mean, he's seen, he looks elite, and he's he's
he is on that very short list of MVP Canaday. You get the vibe about him though, that no one's gonna really believe it, Like there's there's a certain regardless of the evidence, it's out there in the sample size that he's given us, there's a lot of people that are still waiting for the other shoe to drop on brock Party, and until he wins the Super Bowl, I think that there's always going to be questions. Yeah, but you have seven first round picks and brock Party again, I was just thinking about
that. I don't even know what's exactly. My point is to think about cedigree is coming in and then if you're a first round pick, you also have a longer leash and more opportunity. And you know, Jordan Love was given plenty of time to learn. As the Packers tend to do with their quarterback. He's almost the outlier of all of them just because of that, right, he's only when they got to sit and chill right or was forced
to sit in Jill. I mean, if Aaron Rodgers was left two years ago, then he plays, and who knows was it there or not? Probably not. He probably needed the time to develop because he didn't have a ton of experience in college. But who can you say that dak is better than on that list? Beyond a shadow of a doubt, and I guess you'd have to say Baker Mayfield man Demando, I'd tell you Baker, yes, better than Baker, And I mean maybe just because of experience, the
rookie, I would tell you better than Goff. Okay, yeah, I I I don't. I wouldn't fight you. I think Dak is I think better than Jared Goff. The fact that we don't have a definitive answer is kind of the answer. And then you'd have to say, you know, Jordan Love, Yeah, I guess he's better than Jordan Love. But look what happened Sunday when there's third and long and Jordan Love looks like a man with ice in his veins thrown it over the middle. I think it's too
early to have any opinion on Jordan love Fully. Outside of that, he's probably good enough to be your quarterback. But just generally speaking, you go as far as your quarterback takes you, and those dudes have all found a way either consistently or you know, for the first time, Jared Goff gone deep in the playoffs. Would you take Dak? Maybe contracts should be weighed into this, but it's hard because Rock Party and Jordan Love if they continue
to be the quarterback, will get paid a lot of money. Baker Mayfield even well, even if he signs another one year deal, we'll make a lot of money. Lot for this. You take Dak over those four guys, I still think I would. Yeah, yes, I mean but then what's again back to what Akman just said, what's your job when to be a good quarterback? Or is it to win football games? If they get three stops? Do they win that game? Who? Cowboys? If they
get three stops Packers? I mean, well three stops. If the Cowboys stopped the Packers three times, like on three drives, yeah, well that's a hell of a big if. But if they did three touchdowns less for the Packers because it was touchdowns, Yeah, they kick any field goals? Did they? Maybe one? Look, Dak's gonna be here, he deserves to be here. He's gonna be the highest player in the NFL and suck it up because that's just how it goes. And yes, he's plenty good
enough. But he did have a little thousand yards there, and he looked like I'm freaking out. I know, I'm freaking out, and I don't know how to stop freaking out And and it's not he's not young, you know, like this is the window of your What would Romo say? It's like, it's sad that a quarterback as your ability and physical attributes begin to decline, it's right when your brain is peaking and you're seeing everything. And that's why he's got that vortex right now. Squarely, he's been only long
enough to be absolutely peaking right now. And you could argue maybe he is peaking, and a lot of people would are. You could ask yourself this question. When that window opens up, it immediately starts closing. And depending on you know, if you're Tom Brady or Tony Romo, that window can close slowly or quickly. And that's about your body. Yeah, Brady's body lasted so long that he got to spend forever in that window. But it
doesn't just happening both. That window does not just sit there in a fixed position. It is always moving on the way down. As soon as the two overseeckt intersect, how long they intersect, and Zach Dak is in that window, I feel like the window closes faster on Dak than it probably does on maybe some others. Well, they make it concentrated effort in the off
season, we'll see what happens with the head coach. And there's the reports that McCarthy's gonna meet with Jerry today and tomorrow and they'll probably iron all that at To me, this is lining up for McCarthy to return as the head coach for year five of his five year contract. Do they make a concentrated effort to go. Okay, Cooper Rush, you're a great backup quarterback.
Thank you for your service, though, Go get you a job, back up, you know, Josh Allen or something, Trey Lance or a backup, and we will really make an effort to develop you, right, because that's the best thing you could do, is start developing him. I mean, Dak was not even the best quarterback. Dak needed a lot of things to happen to hear, Romo got hurt in that preseason game. He needed Kellen More to break his ankle. Dak was not performing better than Jamil Showers
on a day to day basis at training camp twenty sixteen. And I know that because I was there. You were sitting there going, God, I think Dak's terrible, And sure enough they let him go playing those preseason games and he was crushing it and it was incredible and everyone knew like the little intangible things about Dak, right there's like good dude, relates to everyone, hard worker, just kind of awesome person, says all the right things at
all the right times and all that stuff. But I was like measured, why in the blue white scrimmage is Jamille Shower is playing very well right now? Because it's a scrimmage, you know, and you can't really tell much from that, But you know what if Dak God forbid or to get hurt next year, or you into the Cooper Rushing because Cooper Rush is there to play hold until Dak gets back. But Trey Lance boy Cooper Rush has done good things. Yes, he doesn't deserve to be shunned and sent away,
and he should be a backup somewhere. But he's a good backup. But we talk about these things in terms of because upside of Trey Lance could be the number three pick, but we don't know. He got to play, dude, he hadn't got a He kind of got a bit of a raw deal here. He played a little bit and toward his acl okay, so he played he's out, and then he hadn't got a chance to play again. Now the report's where that he was terrible at practice in San Francisco,
but he might have been checked out. You probably can't feel good when rock Perty's there and they're like, oh, yeah, you're the backup trade let's no, we'll sign Sam Darnold. He might have been checked out of that such. We also know how hesitant players can be coming back from that type of injury too. Yeah, especially when you run a lot like he does.
Look at Pollard and it took him what about ten eleven, twelve games before he said he started feeling one hundred percent confident that when he planted that it was gonna it was gonna be there for him. I think the truth is, and if you're a Cowboy fan right now, you're still in your emotions, you can't handle this. The truth is, Dak's your quarterback, and he's your quarterback until he's forty years old. And that's just how this is gonna go. Can I how the league works? Yeah? No,
so I there's a bit of it. It's like, yeah, I get it, and I understand the frustration of not getting over the hump Mike, You've lived that for a long while as a hardcore Dolphins fans. Is a Dolphins fan. Just look around and it's very easy to go, Dak's my guy. We're moving forward. Shut up with the other stuff. I think Jerry thinks that he is good enough to commit to for the next seven to
ten years. Because also I think that Jerry knows the risk when he sees his own timeline of mortality weighed against the idea of a reclamation project drafting a young quarterback. The unknowns that are all in front of those possibilities, right, because you just don't know. At least with Dak, you look at him and know he's got ability. He does have all the intangibles. It's just a matter of surrounding him with good players, which I think he has.
That's to me why the answer to this solution for Jerry, for the fans, and for this team right now exactly where they are. The best option for them is to fire McCarthy and bring in the greatest coach of all time. If that is an opportunity that is a possibility for you, maybe if that's an option, you do it. You know, Rock Purdy and
Jordan Love have going for them and maybe too. As a part of this discussion, they have guys calling plays who get guys open and it makes you look really good when guys are open and you're just dumping it in there and it's clean. And how often was it clean this year? Sometimes? But it's a lot of if we're not getting back to ceedee lamb going, then what's the offense? Can you give me? It's still great, it was the number one of its league. It's like, I'm not bitching about it.
Yeah, just like I don't know, man, is there any scenario where they don't where I mean, he's got one year left right, Yeah, but you would extend it now to avoid a cap hit that would be devastating, and you could spread that money out to sign some dudes. What if they just have him play this year under the agreed to contract and then with a plan not to resign him after that or franchise him twice yeah, or at least franchising Yeah, Because in that scenario then I'd say, fine,
then you draft a QB or move up to draft a QB. But then that's not gonna happen, because that's essentially what Trey Lance is. You used what a third to get Trey Lance was the third pick. Yeah, and that's what he's there for, is to be your maybe pie in the sky, potential high upside next QB. Well, that also sends horrible messaging
to your quarterback too. Well, don't you think losing looking like a zombie and losing playoff games at home sends a bad message to your ownership when you're deciding whether to you know, put the GDP of a small nation into a guy's pocket, and that's what Mike is going to have to wear. And you know what, maybe no one wears anything. You know, we're running back and you just we lost. Let's try it again, because here's the the dirty secret about all of this, and then we gotta go. We
gotta go in like thirty forty five thirty secret and all of this. The Cowboys haven't given you a reason to give a damn about their franchise. Okay, besides being decent the last three years, I mean up and down roller coaster. But we do because the NFL is king, and our lives are so mundane that we need some football to look forward to. So it will
keep selling out, The ratings will keep being huge. And quite frankly, eleven on eleven car crashing into each other on a field is beautiful American stuff right there. Football is not big in Europe, you know, it's big here and it's getting bigger globally. The American car crash. We love it, We love it all, and we can't get over the fact that crazy stuff is like our lives are just like, oh boy, I need something to look forward to, so I will. He'll follow the draft, I'll
fold the offseason. We shouldn't give a damn. We shouldn't care till next January when they have another playoff game and they rip your heart out again and again and again. We're back tomorrow morning. Cowboys coach Dave Hampo calls in at eight forty. Yeah'll be beautiful American stuff, beautiful American stuff. Don't miss MAVs Lakers tonight to here on the Freak at seven thirty pregame at seven we'll have a breakdown of that other cool stuff going on. The latest on
the Mike McCarthy thing. If anything were to happen tomorrow morning at six am for JJ Jackson, for Mike's Roy, for Danny Baylis, I'm Kevin good job today, Kevin. Go catch our podcast. We post every single segment right after the show. The Ben and Skin Show with Christine and Steve is next. I'm ninety seven won the Freak
