You're listening to the Downbeat on ninety seven to one, the Free Dirty down Fit o'clock. Five minutes away from having NASCAR racerman Chase Elliott on with US Live. Hey, Christopher Bell yesterday, I'm doing a lot of work with Texas Motor speed We appreciate Texas Motorspeedway dot com. That's where you can get tickets to the race next weekend, Sunday, April fourteenth. So we'll talk to him in just a minute. Got a few minutes to kill Kevy.
Oh, what's on your mind? Hello? These always work. Top fourteen answers are on the board. This just came out today, the Forbes Celebrity Billionaires List. All right, celebrity billionaires fourteen answers, Mike, celebrity. I know Taylor Swift is a new member from the fourteen Oprah Winfrey. Okay, where we got him? Oh yeah, number four? Good job, So Edmond I like to pass Stedman. Uh no, jay Z? Well that's correct, yes, thank you. But we'll continue on after our Chase
Elliott interview because jay Z's number five. But we got him. Don't pause this. We got him, We got him. Maybe Chase wants to play maybe Chase. Maybe Chase Elliot wants to play, We'll give him that opportunity because we have a very special guest joining us raising night right now. He races in the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. He is your twenty twenty NASCAR Cup Series champ. He drives the number nine Chevalie for Hendrick Motorsports.
It is mister Chase Elliott. Hello, Chase Elliott. Do we have you? How's it going? Man? Yeah? Got you allowed and clear? Doing good? Man? You're doing all right? Where are you at? You and Martinsville already? You in the haller? Where are we speaking to you from? Yeah? All my way to Martinsville right now? On your way? Are you? You're in transit right now, in transit on the highway. So you're looking at the scenery. Do you chill in?
Because I've seen these haulers like they have. The driver has kind of your private area somewhere in the back, and that's where you're literally located, just in the back of a moving hauler, just enjoying, enjoying the highway like everybody else. It's a nice day outside. You got an Xbox in there, PlayStation? Where we go? I wish I did. I wish I did, but uh, not not today. Not today. Don't you need to be I want to ask you. Don't you need to do simulator work?
I know and a lot of racing disciplines that's huge and they're so good now that you can essentially practice for a track on a on a simulator. Is that part of a preparation routine for you at all? Yeah? It can be totally depends on the week and and what style of track you're going to, but they have come a long way and and yeah, the manufacturers have started to use those things as as a really big tool and prep work
and set up work and all that stuff. So yeah, definitely, is uh become a part of our become a part of our routine, no doubt. Do you feel it helps? I mean, I know you you've been around long enough where you know these tracks and each track has different personality and stuff. Obviously you don't feel the weight on your body in a simulator. But does it does it help you in any way of learning? I don't know apexes or anything like that. Do you feel like it works potentially for
places that you haven't then? I think it's really more a tool for for the teams to develop set up ideas and potential, you know, change options at the racetrack when you get there, something along those lines. But you know, most of the places that that we've raced at, you're you're more likely to want to feel the real thing versus you know, versus a sim just because of exactly what you said. It's just hard to replicate the the feel you know that that you get when you're in the car, and the
sensation of speed too. So yeah, it's i would say more of a tool for for the team side than anything. Racing legend Chase Elliot with us here on ninety seven one the Freak Chase. So on a day like today, I'm assuming you've got kind of a big PR day doing a lot of phone interviews. We've been told we have to limit this to ten minutes, which you know makes me think that you've got a pretty tight schedule. Is that the case? And if so, and look, we're all amongst friends
here. How big of a pain in the butt is a day like this when you've got to call in and talk to some idiots on a morning show and you look at the schedules like going out, I can call these guys, is it kind of a beating for you? It could be worse. It could be worse for sure. You know, at the end of the day, you're better to be doing it than not. If I wasn't, then I probably would be unemployed. So when you look at it like that,
I'm I'm pretty happy to talk to you all this morning. That's a good attitude, Jase, Right. I mean, NASCAR is unique, and that your marketability I guess matters, and that could and that's going to be in tandem with how fast you are. Obviously that's the most important pull. But yeah, and you think about like all of the money, which I mean largely, if not all, of it comes from you know, sponsorship, and you've got to grease the wheels of those guys and make face time
and hang out with them and laugh at their jokes. I mean, it's a dude, I'm just saying, it's a big kind of diplomatic, kind of political thing that is so much more that people don't even think about when they're watching you on the track. Right. Yeah, it's definitely listen.
I think in any industry, regardless of what you're doing, especially anything you know involving sports or entertainment, there's always more to the puzzle than I think anyone is going to understand unless you're the person or the or the people that are living in So yeah, I think that's true, and I think that's true for other industries you know as well that are in the entertainment side of things. Chase, this is Chase Elliott, by the way, joining us.
Texas Motor Speedway will be hosting the races in two weeks, So going to get your tickets Texas Motorspeedway dot com. Now, Chase, I know you're a Georgia football fan. NFL Draft three weeks from tomorrow. Is a Georgia tight end brock Bauers top ten pick worthy, I would say, so, man, he was. He was definitely a stud at Georgia and played you know, awesome which which he was sticking around. I think I think Lad McConkie is going to be a standout to the washing wash where he goes.
He's kind of one of those guys that he's going to go late enough in the draft. I feel like where he's going to go to a really good team, and I think you're gonna hear a lot out of him too. Ladd McConkie's going to be a star. And I know your weather guy too, I know you like falling weather week that Monday, the big solar eclips happening. Now, I don't know where you will be on Monday after
the Martinsville Race. I'm not sure what the traveling schedule looks like. But do you have any fascination at all with the big solar eclipse happening on Monday? No, I think not really. I mean I I you know,
I guess go outside and enjoy it if if we have good weather. But yeah, we were actually out in uh I think it was Vegas last fall and we were practicing and something similar was going on out there then, and it was super wild that it got almost dark, you know, in the middle of the day out there during practice, which is kind of cool. But yeah, I don't know. We'll see what Monday brings. Hopefully we get this race in on Sunday and we'll go from there. Yeah, so
we got Martinsville Sunday. We had Christopher Bell on recently and he mentioned something that I kind of want to expound upon with you because we talked about how the driver, I mean, you are the face of this team, I mean the everyone the driver's driver, but you're part of a massive organization with all the sponsors that we talked about and these massive crews, and you really are part of a team. But you know, the buck does stop with you the driver. But I kind of want to ask you just about your
team. I know what Alan Gustus and your crew chief and then your pit crew helped you pick up at least one spot last week where you ended up getting a top five result, a pretty good finish on the season. Like what's your relationship like with your team, with the jack Man, with these guys that you get to know. I mean, I just don't think they get maybe the FaceTime or the shine that they should as part of these massive
organizations. Yeah, no, they definitely don't. I mean they are a huge piece of the puzzle, and we all spend a lot of time with each other, right, I mean on the road, on the road every weekend together and whatnot. So yeah, it I think you hit the nail on the head. They just don't ever get the credit that they deserve,
you know, truthfully. And I feel like, you know, just like you mentioned about last weekend, our guys have been really, really doing a great job throughout the course of this year and have not gotten a lot of credit for it either, So definitely glad to have them. We have a have a special group that goes over the wall performing at a really high level, and also have a great, a great road crew too. And and I'm not just saying that either, I really do feel that way. So
I enjoy going to work with him. Hopefully they feel the same about me. And you know, we're just gonna keep keep scratching and calling away at it and hopefully have something go our way here Chase Elliot. Sorry, at some point, Chase Elliott, joining us is my last question for you. I'll let you go, and it's a probably busy day for here you. Did you ever see the movie Days of Thunder? I am yeah, I've seen that one, all right. Did you think that Robert Duval stole the
show? I don't know. I definitely think he was a perfect addition to to Tom Cruise and that movie for sure, But I don't know that he stole the show. I think they shared. I think they shared the the the star roles. Well, though, how would you handle it if your crew chief told you, like when you needed a pit, and he looked at you and said, I'm eating ice cream. Like, how would you react to that? Well, nowadays, at the end of the day, it's his call, so I just I try to go with the flow and
if he says he's busy, then I just eating ice cream. Chase, Chase, thanks dude. You hear this every time. We have a photograph of your old man on our wall. Here A I'm a NASCAR guy and I love I love your dad. So we're honored to have have you on for a sort of reasons. But shout out the great Bill Elliott. Thanks for jumping on with us. Man. We wish your best of luck this
weekend. Hopefully the success you showed last weekend keeps on rolling. And uh, we can't wait to see you here in Texas for the Auto Trader Echo Park Automotive four hundred. That's a Texas Motor Speedway April fourteenth. Man, thanks for a time, Chase, Yeah, man, appreciate. I mean, we'll see you out there next Keep paul and asked Chase keep pauling, serious ass, Thank you have a give one all right? Bye? There he goes, You did it. You're not You're not gonna have thank case
Elliott and not do it. I've never seen a face light up in your defense. I consider that redemption redemption. Yeah, Christopher, Yes, you ruined yesterday's I'm just gonna say it the show day. The day I mean, Ben and Skin never recovered from it, dude, they were Yeah, I think the speak he just took the afternoon off. Yeah, I was one of them, had to take a day because of what you did.
But today, good on you, mate, Well done. Kati back on top of iBOT the solar eclipse question though, that okay, we were right on track to ruin another day. I hear you're a big weather guy, and where did you hear? I've had interviews that he's done. And he was asked in an interview, what it's the one app you can't live without? And it was the Weather Channel app. I just love weather, so yeah, and then he acted like, granted, that's not weather, that's
more of an astrological event. I guess it's under the way. Yeah, it still counts though he's truly a weather guy. Are you excited about the eclipse coming up on Monday? No, I guess I'll look at it, see what happens. Get through the race on Sunday. I don't know. He said, yes, I've seen days of thunder, and this dude sits up in his chair and he knows what's going to happen. He's going to get to perform his Robert Dull impression thunder for a Cup champion. Yeah,
I thought it was fine for a real National Association Auto Racing champion. What's the problem with it? It's great. It was like, did you think he was gonna go? Whoa mister is that you? I would like to think I was doing this interview, not for Texas Motor Speedway, the sport of NASCAR, or the Elliott Family, for our audience. And I would like to imagine our audience was sitting there that whole time, just going get to it, Kevin, Come on, what's he gonna do it? I
would like to think that it's icecream with pable experience. It's rod to ball Stream eating ice cream. There it is, It has it has its own song. Whoever said ice cream has an affordable rate? A rate? Just what kind of rates are you paying on your ice cream? I only pay affordable rates when I'm purchasing my ice cream. We're holding two tubs. Actually these has more affordable rate. The ice stream at an affordable price with no expiration futures at right now. I don't know, but I got mine at
an affordable rate. And now and then the singer of that song does the voice does a song? Yeah? I know, but you did the voice with a sing it with a smack of ball. Do you think that was good? Larry Cable, the guy, Larry the We're by Larry Cable, the guy. Okay, give me the intro. Is that tomorrow at eight thirty tomorrow, and then we'll have Brody on Friday. And we asked car hilarious country comedian wrestling, and we got a feeler out for moon Man.
We don't know if we'll get moon Man. We need moon Man, so you know, maybe leave it here. I don't know, I don't know, but yes, jay Z five on the list. Let's go back to play the song. Okay, yeah, play that song. Let's just start over impromptu family feud. Oh, this is not a game. This is a topic. Just be clear, okay, and be clear, we're not
burning our allowed weekly game for this. No. Forbes dropped today their top fourteen Okay celebrity billionaires so far we have Taylor Swift at fourteen and you got Oprah jay Z five, Oprah the four. Let's go with Michael Jordan. Oh does the gambling kick in? Or no? He's got money? Uh wait yeah, number three? Number three never sold the team, right, I think Tiger would. Yeah. Ten okay, celebrity billionaires and if you like the number on that, I can tell you. For Michael Jordan,
doesn't really matter. But for Michael Jordan, alright, Tiger woods one point three billion barely and he's Jordan three point two billion. And that's because he's uh he bought the Hornets for one hundred and seventy five million and sold them for three billion good basically worth is basically Jesus. His net worth is basically the sums he got from selling the horn amazing. Not to mention he's still the residual, residual money he gets from Nike. I don't know how Tiger
didn't take to live money. I mean one point three, but you know they offer There were rumors, and you're granted, people throw those numbers up crazy that he was offered a billion dollar but I would comfortably say he was offered five hundred million dollars, which is near half his net worth. Dude, I'm not counting this as an official answer, but Mikey is is there any way Shack is close? I all reforms that he has, I think no, but yeah, I mean yeah, there's a way fired out.
I just wn't submit that answer. We were talking and you hit a button that went yeah do uh Forbes Top fourteen celebrity billionaire? Can I just like Elon Musk is not on this list? Right? Or does that count? This wasn't. I guess he's to stop striking us. I think I think is Beyonce on? It did count as one? We can tell who the bread winner is in that family? She broke, okay broke. He's still a billionaire though, I think not according to Forbes. No, that's just
the top fourteen. Yeah, they only did the top fourteen and they cut it off at tailor. What's what is she worth? One point one billion? Right? That's cause I thought that, okay, those are just okay. I thought it was all of them. I think that is what about actors? Think about that there's only one on here that I would say is like a little off the beaten path, maybe two a little off the Beaten Path is uh, Robert Duvall, he's not. What about Tom Cruise,
No, they have to be into something else. Okay, I will tell you. In the world of cinema one, two, yeah, two in the world's three in the world of cinema, okay. One. In the world of music three Paul McCartney, Oh yeah, bitch, but there is a loose tie into Paul McCartney. John Lennon. Do they have to be
alive? They do help with their live damn it. But the loose tie into Paul McCartney, I'll just say, think someone who might have a camera on them while hanging around Paul McCartney, or maybe in an editing room. Steven Spielberg, Javis, Steven Spielberg. Number two, Peter Jackson number seven, okay, oh yeah, there you go, ring ring. Yes, he did the ring. Yeah, I mean at easy at one point five million dollars for that New Zealander. Two. In the world of sports left

Oh oh well Jack no, Ari, Greg Norman, what about soccer stars the worldwide one is currently playing. One is a star of the eighties? Is this American billionaires? Cam Brady one of the no offense to hockey, one of the three major sports. Okay, not Tom Brady, Lebron, that's right, Number eleven Lebron,
He's pretty diversified. Yeah. Number twelve is the other sportsman? Sportsman? Is it Brady? It's not Brady, same sport as Lebron. Star of the eighties. Magic Johnson really well be damn. He owns part of the Dodgers, doesn't he? Yeah? I guess he does. Let's see. He he owns pieces of the Commanders, the Dodgers, the WNBA is Los Angeles Sparks, and MLS's LAFC. Geez, that's amazing, dude. If you own a freaking professional sports team, you basically have a money printing
machine in your guest bedroom. Most of his wealth comes from his steak in Iowa based life insurance provider EQUA Trust. Dude, who's that he's rolling at? Magic Johnson? I thought it was from reruns of his talk show in the taken time. Number thirteen Dick Wolf Okay, yeah, you give us some initials. Real quick. We want to play well, he's got a new show on Netflix. That's it's real life basically what was this big show? Law and Order? It's basically of real life Law and Order documentary on
cases in in historical murder cases in New York. Fantastic? Yes, really good? Okay? Dick Wolf? Who else? Uh? Dick Wolf? Who else? Music? Nine? Are Rihanna? Yes? When he was putting together R two D two, thinking here's a little robot guy. One day I'm gonna be worth five billion dollars, he found the world's smallest screwdriver. That Kevin that is elusive to KT because he needs to fix his MacBook. Oh and
me and Golden. I went into the room and she goes they moved everything. Yeah, I'm sorry, buddy. All right, nine o'clock, Get ready, because I'm guilty as charged with the stories and I'm ordering them animal style. Right now, it's time for Dingo's morning news. This celebrity's dog was murdered by an Instacart driver, and I'm about to make you feel like an idiot for throwing away all your comic books.
