Transcript

This is the downbeat on ninety seven to one The Freak. Yeah, we get your talkbacks and more in nine thirty five. Okay, I'm Kevin, that's Danny, that's Mike JJ. But right now we are joined live and studio by our special guest. You've been clamoring for more of this man, some of them, oh some, Hey, wait what happened? I'm sorry. I heard Chrispin Wall's music and I just immediately went into Panama mode.

Go ahead, Mike, Okay, it's our buddy, Brody Jones. I guys, I don't even wrestling expert, if you want to say that, but friend of the show more importantly than his wrestling expertise. Let's be honest. That's been was open because he asked for this return cut, and I'm like, whatever you want, Sure we can play return cut for you. I just referred to it as whatever by our Lady Peace. But I mean, if it's associated with Crispin Wall, I had nothing to do with that.

Why. I was just re enacting the events that may or may not have happened at one thirty Green Meadow, Fetteville, Georgia between June twenty second and June twenty fourth allegedly, and he will you brought your own bowflex in. Yeah, it kind of been a giant pain in the ass. Again,

they're easy to find on offer up these days. I always loved the legal safety net of allegedly after some very specific details in my time, and who knows, we've had two pantomime suicides happened in this studio in the last fifteen minutes, Nickly, mine was a double murders and then a suicide. Okay, alleged, let it right. I was trying to condense the details. But that's fine. I think any excuse that we can come up with to get Brody up here, you will definitely exercise. And this weekend being

WrestleMania, what are we at forty They revealed the stage last night. It's got a big excel on the top where the guys are going to walk between. Yeah, it's pretty big. It's nice. Yeah, anytime we get Brody up it's always fun. But you are obsessed with the Crispin wat situation, which is a terrible. It's funny to anytime you listen to any like podcast because there's a ton of actually incredibly good like wrestling shoot podcasts where they

tell the real stories of all the stuff that happened. Whenever the ben Wah thing comes up, it is so awkward because there are people who are like great friends with them everyone recently, and they're like, I hate to do it, but it's three of us. So one of you suddenly turns into a murder suicide person and we've discussed it before. I'm like, yeah, no, Danny Baylis wouldn't do that. But then the real truth is,

you do you ever really know anyone? You don't, and you two aren't completely like jacked, muscle brown, muscle bound psychopaths easy, which Chris ben Waugh definitely was speaking of that. I was thinking, since you know, we're all buddies, how about we all just get fanny packs full of cocaine and steroids, where's zoobas and just live our best life, just like nine six, just living in nineteen eighty six in a cabin. We may or

may not bang foo cares, No one's judging. We're just lift and banging all day, eating protein in away, you know, throw your past away, and it's like a new chapter, exactly new leaf, and kind of everything you need is right in your fanny pack, right in front of If it's not there, you don't need it. Don't need it, you might be bagging. Who knows cocaine and steroids, a little protein mixed in it made it made Randy Savage one of the greatest ever. So how could you

be wrong? Yea, he got endorsement money off that. So Brody's here to screw around with us whatever's on his mind. You know, they never know what turns it's gonna take. But essentially, yeah, it's because we got WrestleMania this weekend. Wrestlming you have forty You just told me forty forty excel in Philly and we are in Philly, Okay, and this is a notoriously uh it's a hot market, man, Yeah that in New Yorker in

the States are the hottest too wrestling markets. And Philly is the home of E. C. W Right originally Yeah, ninety two to two thousand and one. I don't know, is that when Philly turned into because it's gonna be a hot crowd, like, they will boo the hell out of I don't know, they'll got good guys, Yeah, they'll cheer for the bad guys if something goes wrong. I feel bad for the performers in the ring. It's not gonna be fun. Philly is a great town for wrestling,

and the WrestleMania is too. Because you get the smartiest of smart fans. It's you know, it's speaking English for my friends. They don't need to know. It's fine. This is between two friends right here that are staring at each other's eyes, Crank and Rods. So it's the smartiest of fans, the smartest of fans, the jerkiest of fans. Because this is our super Bowl. This is it started pretty much yesterday. It'll go till Sunday,

including and then roll into Raw on Monday. But every Giant Wrestling promotion, Indie promotion, New Japan, DDT, all from are coming to the States. You got pretty much everyone except for AW is mobilized to Philadelphia. There's tons of indie shows going pretty much every convention center things like that in Philly are booked for these different shows. There's a company called GCW. They put on a thing called the Collective, which is really cool. They get

you know, eight or nine other promotions. They all work together and they all run shows. Like yesterday morning, I'm working and on one computer, I've got whatever it is. It used to be fight TV. Now it's thriller. And they've got shows starting at nine o'clock in the morning, and about every other hour you've got another show starting, Like you had Josh Barnet's bood Sport yesterday, which is blood Sport's great, there's no ropes, it's

simulated MMA and it's some of the stiffer stuff you can watch. I mean, yeah, it's predetermined, but dude's like the e let Shanna Baser participate yesterday, which is crazy. That's how you can tell Vince is gone because Trips is opening the doors saying, hey, this is our super Bowl. Let's all work together. I'm gonna send some of our bigger stars down to

your smaller shows and let them participate. Uh William regal Son participated. And so you get just the best fans, the nerdiest of fans, the hard course to fans that come to this event, so they all know everything that's going on. It's not just your normal raw crowd where you've got a bunch of kids in the crowd and families and oh I used to watch wrestling and go this is a destination. You plan your rear, d your year round

going to Mania, and that's why the crowd is super hostile. They love you, but if you know, they'll turn on you in a heartbeat. Was it like that here when we it was? Well, I feel like I missed. I went to WRESTLEMANA was here when it was at at and T a couple of years ago, had a great time. Me and Jillian went on Saturday night and that was the night that Cody Rhodes returned incredible to

WWE. Yeah, which was a big thing. But I feel like I kind of missed out on the week that you just described, Like there was stuff you were driving past people like more than you guys, even though yeah, you knew WrestleMania was in town, but like you said, every convention center and hotel like they had autographed signings and photos and every almost every living wrestler you've ever heard of is in town for WrestleMania. It's like I was

telling you all, like when it was here. The Collective GCW was out at fair Park, which was weird being in like the building with the Butter sculpture and there's no butter sculpture, there's just people selling merch. And then right across there's two dudes just beating the piss out of each other. Yeah. And then at the Fairmont they had Wrestle con which is a giant convention you can go by by pictures autographs from pretty much every retired wrestler or current

independent wrestler, and then they also do shows at the same time. That's what I was. Fair Amount is way too nice for wrestling fans. That's why it's saying like we walked in it just immediately smelled like weed. And then when I was coming out of the bathroom, I got ran over by the Godfather because you're like move, I got a as big man just pushed me out of the way. I was like, good Lord, was the hoe training behind him or no? There was no hose. I did almost

get run. So there's a guy big cast that used to be in the e and as I was walking out the door, he's like, legit seven foot. I opened the door and just pretty much ran right into his belly button. Did he apologize? No, I just dropped to my knees. Well, there you go, finish the job. Do you have a question you mentioned? Okay, so, uh as far as in Philly, you said that they they'll they'll send their big name wrestler, wrestlers to smaller markets.

Well, so there's independent procession. Yeah, I was curious what the logic behind that was. And to these smaller markets are like, oh my god, we got this guy wrestling in our high school gym, or how does that work out? It's just a different regime now that Vince is gone and Triple H is in charge, Paul as we like to call him, and Nick Connor running things. So this isn't Paul Bearer, No Incredible Actions, Young King, yeah, or Paul Hayman, who's going into the Hall

of Fame time ECW. He origed, he started ECW and one of the smoothest dudes like in American media to hold a microphone forget wrestling, and he is he's probably the best. Heenan will always be and Cornett was great, but Haman's probably the best talker as a manager of all time. Yes, But so there's independent, independent promotions come in to run shows. And before with Vince, like there was times where he told the city like, you can't rent out in a certain area around us if you want our vent to

these smaller promotions at Wrestle con things like that. It's not like that anymore now that he's gone, and that they're real hardline radius clauses. They're welcoming, and it's it's kind of a give and take because a lot of these guys, all these guys in the indies, they want to get to the e they want to go to you know, aw's a stepping stone as well, but the goal is to be at WrestleMania, Like that's the super Bowl. That's if you're in that business, that's where you want to go.

Well, now with him working together, hey, we'll send Shana Basler and we'll send this other guy down here to wrestle on your show. We can work together. Hey, if you've got some good talent, send them this way to our performance center. Maybe we can give them a try out. It's just having a working relationship and just being cool to everybody. It's like, we're all in the same business here. We can all work together. We're the top dogs. We don't have to be d's to you guys.

We can actually just be cool, play out in olive branches. But to show how weird it is, it's sort of like the cowboys saying, yeah, sure, here's a Dak he can start one game for the Arlington Renegades. Well, it's more like here's c J. Goodwin, he can play special teams for you, okay on one play? Yeah yeah yeah, but you still would ask why. But it helps those smaller promoters to get these names that otherwise they wouldn't have access to hold a ton tickets because of it.

And it's kind of a throwback to how it used to be with the Independence right where it's just how you you borrow a champion and be like, hey, here's rich with the NWA when it was one, when the NWA was the organizing body of all the professional wrestling. We loan people out to each other, to different territories. Yeah. Interesting, So it's Saturday and Sunday night. This is how many years? Four or five? Now I'm

doing the two nighter. I think Pandemic year was the first year they went two nighters in a thirty six and then ever since then it's been a two night deal. How much is the pay per view? Uh, it's uh, you just get peacocks, sir. You don't have to buy aay per view because it's it's it's premium live events. We don't go on pay per views anymore. Now that they're owned by t KO Endeavor, which owns THEFC, they're probably going to get rid of that and go back to the paper

format make money else that or at least for the Big four. Just because you're a peacocks Cock subscriber, you don't you have to actually pony up for it, don't. She's part It's part of being on Peacock. Really. Yeah, it's part of the WW network because WM was his own standalone Peacock boy it a few years ago, and it's just part of having Peacock.

Okay, so did they So Peacock obviously ponied up a boatload of money because if you don't have that instant boost of cash on by people that are willing to spend the forty nine to ninety nine or one hundred bucks or whatever it

costs to get it. Yeah, they made it worthwhile. They made it worth their while also, and you got the Calcter that loss because NBC owns USA Network and that's where Raw airs, so they're all in bed together as it is a smarter big picture play too, right, Just more people come watch our sport and fall in love and then get hooked with it, right, which try probably going to break off now that Raw is going to Netflix, so the WA network will probably move from Peacock probably to Netflix, maybe

ESPN Plus since the UFC dealers with ESPN Plus. We're talking about billion dollar deals, right, Oh yeah, yeah, a lot of money. I mean they just sold an Endeavor what was it, four billion they sold to Endeavor and then they created this TKO brand which is the UFC and WW under one one roof. And that's when the Rock is one of the border directors, the board member. Okay, kid, can we just the Rocks back in the game. Yeah, and heavily featured. I saw him and f

and Roman Reigns on TV the other night. Yes, the late night talk shows explained all of them, like, because that's the main storyline of this WrestleMania is Roman Reigns and the blood line and the Rocks participation in Cody Rhoades being the good guy. Just give him the So originally Cody wins the Royal Rumble. You win the Royal Rumble, you get to decide who you face, what champion you face, And he was Everyone's like, hey, he's

going to face Roman. Well, when he's coming out to announce that Rock comes back and Cody steps back. It's like, hey Rock, Roman, uh, you know, to see who the real tribal chief is, You'll to see who's the leader of your bloodline. You'll have it. So Rock and Roman are cousins, along with the Usos and Solo so Co who are all formed the blood line. But if you look at the Samoan dynasty that's in the WWE, I mean it starts with Peter My via the Wild Samoans

and it just goes from there. Yokozuna, Rosie Umaga, all those guys, they're all related. I remember the Wild Samoans from back in the day, So Wild Cicco from the Wild Samoans. That is Roman Reigns's father. Okay, yeah, and that's I believe that is Rock's uncle. How that works I think in real life? Yeah, okay, yeah, they're legitimately like the most prominent wrestling family of all time. There's just a thing on sorry on the biography. I just watched Eves about Roman Reigns. Yeah,

and he was a stud football player, went to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech. Good, good player and at least for free agent pick up for those Vikings, Yeah, Vikings and probably would have made the roster. He was coming out for practice one day and some dogs pulled him aside and they're like, hey, but you got leukemia, so let's go get some treatment.

And that pretty much into his football. So we got treatment. He's working putting furniture together for his sister and his dad, Sika the Wild Samoan walks in there and kind of looks down and laughs at him. He's like, this is what you're gonna do with your life. He's like, come with me, and took him to Tampa to learn how to wrestle. Yeah, it's because it's like in your blood and I mean, which is kind of true multi generation families. They've succeeded in wrestling. So what what is who

wins the most? And what is the motivating factor of getting Because the Rock doesn't need this anymore. He's an A list actor, He's worth more money than he'll ever spend. What is the motivation? Is it him kind of being kind of honoring his ties? Is is it a big money grab because obviously everybody stands to win as far as the financial aspect of this, What is the motivation for Rock to get out of Hollywood and go back to this. Money's great, fame's great. But the reason he's doing it is just

like he was just talking about, this is what they do. This is in their blood. It doesn't matter if he's selling tequila or whatever he's doing, you know, pitching crappy football in Arlington doesn't matter. At the heart of it, he's still a pro wrestler. That's what his dad did, that's what his grandfather did, that's what his uncles did, That's what he did. He wouldn't be where he was if he didn't start in that crap be gimmicky costume that he had in Madison Square Garden as Rocky Myivia, and

no one cared and they hated him. And then he turned to this incredible heel character and had one of the best runs of the late nineties early two thousands, and it skyrocketed him into fame. And he's came back. He came back and had that two year deal with John Cena, and his whole thing originally, from what I've read and understood, his whole game plan to this is he wants to have a retirement match against Roman, who's his cousin. His family. That's what he wants to be as retirement match, which

I believe will be. They'll lead to next year. There'll be some shenanigans that this weekend they get along now or they're in this no no. If the Roman are tight, they're tight. Storyline, they're tight. They're guy having a tag match, So that'll be the headline. That'll be the main event of Night one. It's a tag match Rock and Roman versus Seth and Cody and so then which leads into Night too because Roman is wrestling Cody for the title. Romans had the belt for three and a half years. It's

the longest run in the modern era, longest run since Hogan. You just don't do that anymore. You know, it's five six months, you switch the champion. You got to keep people's attention, and some people have kind

of fell out of love with the storyline. I think it's brilliant. A lot of you know, hardcore fans think it's brilliant because you're telling this long game and like last year, they had us because we all believed last year, everybody to a man believed that Cody was winning last year, and at the last minute there was changes made Cody lost, and you've done this whole year long story build to Cody getting back to Roman and you thought he was

there. Rock steps in, they have a press conference in Vegas, Cody comes out, they make it a tag match, and the storyline here is and Rock turned full heel, which is great. The first couple of weeks he was kind of getting his feet, but his heel promo since then have been fantastic, making little kids cry, making fun of his mom, making Cody bleed, and like rubbing his blood on the belt and saying he's going

to send it to his mom as she's crying. So the whole thing with Night one, though, is if the Bloodline wins, then Cody Romans match. Night two is Bloodline rules, which is just a fancy way of saying anything goes, no disqualification, weapons, whatever, any more events. Yeah, any member of the Bloodline can get involved. If Cody Seth win, it's a straight one on one match, Roman versus Cody, no interference missionary,

Yeah, exactly boring and Roman don't do missionary. So if you're building this year or Cody's winning night too, Cody is the new face of the company. He's going to be their new John Cena. He's extremely, extremely charismatic. Anytime he cuts a promo, you damn your want to cry. He makes you feel, and in this business, that's all you're trying to do is make people feel because they're going to tune in next week to see

you. They're going to buy those tickets. And so Cody's winning Night two because he's the he's the politician, he's the guy they're going to pray it out in front of everything. He's built for it. The thing is to make him the beautiful baby face that you want, the conquering hero. He has to overcome every obstacle. So Night one him and Seth lose. Night two he has their takedown Roman and the entire bloodline, all the shenanigans by himself. He can't have any help. He's got to do it clean by

himself. And then there you go. You have your new golden child. So it's not like a two year story that all leads up to Sunday night. I will say, one year ago, probably today, you sat in that chair and kind of said the same thing on why Cody was gonna beat him last year, and they last second said screw it. Roman is printing

money. Life is good and the real swerve now would be you could think Roman beats him again and ends it all, But then you've ruined Cody, like you've done it once he's recovered, you do it, you do it again, You've ruined him. You can't And like he even said, like one of his promos, He's like, I'm not out here to say like I'm here to finish my story. I said that last year and I lost, so I can't keep saying that. Or it's just gonna fall on deaf

years. Lastly, real quick, when you ask why the Rock will come back to I don't care what the Rock's bank account says or action do a move cut. Even for that dude, there is nothing like wal I'm through that curtain and that pop like it is crack rock. And even the Rock, who has everything on planet or nothing in his life, is like walking out. He always they always did that noise, yeaht of when he comes out and you just see the goosebumps on his arms like he shows it.

There's nothing like that, and you always hear wrestlers say that that's the one thing they miss the most is the pop of the crowd when they hear your music that first time and you walk through that curtain. There's nothing like It's best drug in the world. Cocaine and steroids are great, especially if they're you know, coming, easy to handle. Pack fan pack. It's not how it works, all right. I know you're gonna stick around. We're

just gonna keep growing around. We're gonna play some talkbacks. Whatever you got. Dude, what's the big story from WrestleMania. The other big story which you don't know he did, that was just sexing up the teas. We'll sexing it up. When he says, oh, we'll let him talk about Gunther for a second. I'm so hard. We had tons of cra had tons of crabs, trust us. Fun time next
