Hey, hey, everybody, we are live and this is Mondo Digital's Nathaniel Thompson joining us on a Thursday night. How are we doing, Nathaniel, Hey, weeks almost over, thank god, and it's a short week next week, so yay. I laughed because somebody I'm doing an interview with somebody from Canada soon and they said, hey, are you are you free next Thursday? We can meet them. I'm well, got a little bit of

plans down here, yep, a little bit. What's going on? Everybody that is here live, Good to see all the friends in the chat. Nathaniel, for those that don't know, contributes to all kinds of releases. I swear you've had at least two or three releases announced every week for like the last three or four weeks. It feels like, yeah, it's been like a flood lately. It's it's kind of funny, yeah, And we

were just talking off air. Some of these they they record the commentary months in advance, and then for some reason or another, something gets delayed or that's just the plan because something isn't you know, going to be coming out for so long, but they got to manufacture everything, and it just seems like there's a giant glut of Nathaniel and Troy right now and everybody's hitting it hard. I'm excited for it though, Yeah, yeah, I people.

It's it's weird, like you'll do commentary is like months and months apart, and all of a sudden they hit the same time, you know. I mean I've had commentaries sit on the shelf for like a year, so it's you know, you never know. That's very true. H John Peter says Mondo Digital is my go to for research and reviews, and I've referenced Mondo Digital. I think when we had you on here, I said it's been around since about the dawn of time, and that's about as long as I've

been referencing it. Because the whole historical aspect for Mondo is so unique, people don't really reference the upgrades for these releases and why they are better. I just again publicly thank you for doing that. I really wish more people paid attention to stuff like that. Yeah, well, thank you. It's just kind of how it worked out. You know. You start this website

nineteen ninety eight and it's like, well that's when DVD started. I really didn't realize it was going to turn into a big history book, but now it is. What do you think you would have said in ninety eight if somebody would have told you you would still be reviewing twenty four years later, getting all these releases sent to you and on all these discs, how would you feel? I would I would feel very happy about that, because the site's just a labor of love. I would not believe how many discs I'd

be reviewing. I would have I kept the fact that it's like quadruple at least the amount of discum reviewing now than it was when it started is staggering me. You're like, oh, it's good. Media is dead. I'm like, why am I getting boxes and every day? Then like, right, you know, for something that's dying out, I should see it? But okay, and that many physical releases. On top of that, you stay on top of modern films, You participate in as much as you possibly

can. You were just recently on a couple shutter series. It's nice to see you out there, But again, how do you find so much damn time coffee? That? And I'm willing to bet you don't have two young kids like I do, just two cats. So I'm insanely jealous, that's for sure. We got a semi decent amount of announcements this week compared to last week. We're going to go through as many of them as are there for this week. Then we're going to talk about what's coming out next week.

But throughout the entire time, if anybody has questions for Nathaniel, any of the releases that he's on, thoughts on films, screenings that he's won too recently, anything like that, by all means, hit it up in the chat. Anything you've watched recently that you want to highlight for everybody. That's a big, awesome sticking out point for Yeah, just in terms of any kind of release at all. Sure, why not? Yeah, Well, I just finally watched Weird the Ionicatic Story, which was a blast.

I highly recommend it. I don't know if that will ever get a physical elite because it's a road coupe production. Yeah, I think it's the first one of those, right, Yeah, to me fund your Diye, we'll have some kind of deal and like God willing, we'll get a criteria an UHD down the road. But you know, things have happened, that's true, And I mean we're talking about Criterion tonight too. That's going to be an exciting slate in my opinion, I got a whole bunch of people filing

in now, so we should have quite a bit of audience participation. Let's get into it. Sinnapps announced that they are putting out a standard release of Phenomena on four K. This is coming out of March fourteenth. Great movie, great looking four K disc, No no difference compared to the Blu ray. What are your thoughts on Phenomena? I love the film. I've seen about eighty bazillion times. It's yeah, back in the day when I was a wee little whipper snapper at this an opera my too, must watch Our

Gentles for some reason. I don't know why it was kept sticking to friends, but yeah, this is a great release. This is pretty much everything you could possibly want. And as some of you probably must be probably know, this is identical to the uk ero UHD set. They had a deal as with Tennebury, So if you have one or the other, you're fine. But I'm glad this is getting a retail release. It looks gorgeous.

Yeah, if you don't have it, snap it up. This is yeah, again, beautiful four K release, and I don't think there's really anything that they could even add to make this a better, bigger disc or anything like that in the future. This is, in my opinion at lease, is a definitive release of Phenomena. It's incredible unless they get Jennifer Connelly to sit down and talk about it, which I don't see happening. Touche even then, just sell that on a supplement. Blu Ray will throw it in

the case. Keino announced a whole bunch of titles this week, as they always do. They're putting out Marco Polo from sixty two. This is coming on February, has a new four K scan of the OCN on this title. This has a new Tim Lucas commentary, and that is it. Marco Polo. What do you what is your feeling on this era of films. I have never seen a good copy of this. I've only seen on TV

or it was cropped all the hell. But it's a fun movie. I assume this is going to be the American release version, which has a really great score by Les Baxter, who, if you're a soundtrack nut, he did all the Vincent price you know, Poe movies. He did all the US version of the Mariobaba movies, but has this really kind of nice, really sort of lounge epics score, which was only in the American version. Overseas had a different score, So it'll be nice to have because it's it's

always looked like garbage before. So yeah, I'm really curious to see how the transfer is. Yeah, I've certainly never seen this one. This is a little outside of my usual go to fair, but still interested in seeing it. Roy Calhoun has done quite a few good things, and I love good score, so why not? Uh Severn their next title for Black Friday, and this one sounds really interesting. This is twenty sixteen's Blood On. I never know how to say this guy's last night? Do you know how

to say? It? Is? Emily No? Yay? Well, yeah, that's right. This one is an Inner Vision title. Actually, this is Luigi Kotzi's first feature in twenty seven years. Wrote directed and stars in this one himself. This has a whole bunch of little features on it. We got an introduction by Luigi himself, We got introduction to the Little Wizards of Oz that's on here. That's a bonus movie. They're including from twenty

eighteen. We got a making of both of them, and then a little art piece on the Little Wizards of Oz and then a trip to Alain schlacka founder of La kan Fantastique magazine. A lot of good stuff coming on here. Luigi Kotzi, What do you appreciate about Luigi Kotzi, Well, he is one of the sweet guyst in my entire life, so I appreciate that, as you can kind of I can tell from the cover art. But he actually runs the Profondo Rosso store which is in Rome, so if you

ever are there, definitely check it out. He's usually in there like in the afternoons, like after around two o'clock. But so the first time I got to go in there, I hung out with him for quite a long time when were gibbergeabbring a lot about Italian horror movies and stuff. But he's just a fantastic guy. I've never seen Little Misards of Oz, hadn't even heard of it before, so I'm really curious about what that is. But yeah, this movie is nuts. This is very sort of like a meta

thing. They shot a lot of it. He has like there's actually a documentary that he just put out about this as well. But if you go in the store, there's actually like a staircase that goes like subterranean and they have like a whole like quasi dungeon thing. All the props from like demons in the Church and phenomena, like all that stuff is all down in there, and it's like you're you feel like you're stuck in a torture chamber.

It's it's really crazy. So yeah, it's it's a wild movie. This is for those of us that are never gonna be able to make it to Italy. This is the best way to see all of it. It's good enough. Next up Blue Underground, we got some release dates and some details on two incredible releases and some obviously familiar names in these listings here February twenty. First, on four K, we are getting Justine from nineteen sixty nine.

This has a really kind of fun slipcover. It's got a little window die cut design here, and this is what it's gonna look like when you pull that slipcover off. And on this one we got a new audio commentary with Nathaniel and Troy Howarth. And then yeah, this one sounds great. Stephen Throwern Justine. We got an interview with the author of Murderous Passions, of course, and then new on set with Jess featurette interview with star Rosalba

Nari. There is a new expanded poster in Steel Gallery. But the cool thing Sanctuary, the shorter US version in HD is on this and if I remember right, Troy was saying this is included because he and you brought it up on the commentary and they heard it. Is that right? Probably? Yeah, because yeah, I think we both actually in a week kind of prefer that. That's the worst that was on you on VHS in America. Now that's why I first saw it. But it's like all the fun stuff

is in the movie, it just trims out. There's a lot less to walking through the woods and all the filler stuff. There's less of it. So in a way, I kind of liked that version better. So I'm really overjoyed that's going to be on there because that was not on the Blue ray, so it's that alone. It did never even had HD release anywhere for that shorter version, right, right, correct, Yeah, it hasn't been around since like the Mono avhs back in the eighties. So yeah,

yeah, awesome, that is great to hear. But that's not even the only one. We are also getting Marquis de Sade's philosophy in the Boudoir or Eugenie, depending on how you know it, and this as well as getting one of those window cut slip covers. When you open it up it looks like this. Uh. This one has a new audio commentary with Troy Nathaniel as well, interview with the director that was on the old release, Stephen Thriller on Eugenie, and then Jack Taylor in the Franco Verse an interview with

Jack Taylor himself. So these two films sell some of the fans on these two films, Well, these are Jess Franco in his prime. This is when he had the biggest budgets he ever had his whole career. So you can see him just going nuts with like like the local I mean just crazy locations all over Europe and the colorful gel lighting. And he has big stars in these things. I mean this one is got Christopher Lee in this one. I mean it's you've got Jack Palance in the other one. I mean,

it's really really fun. Usually is probably the better one to start with if you're not familiar with these movies, It's it's really great. It's probably one of them. It's one of my very favorite Marquis de sadd films. It kind of just gets that kind of spirit down. It's not that explicit. It's got like a very early X rating back like you around nineteen seventy, which is like a very soft R rating now. An ex back then was a whole different thing. But that Cowboy was AX, which is silly.

But yeah, this is a really really fun film. It's beautifully shot, since you know it's in like super wide screen, just really really gorgeous. But I mean, so it is Justine. Justine's more of a sort of prestige film. It's not quite as crazy and wild, but it's definitely picking up as well. And I also just got to recommend the Steven Thrower pieces on all these Just Franco titles coming out for Severn and Blunderground are just

incredible. I love every supplement that guy's ever done. But he always blows me away with some of the stuff he picks out of these movies, Like his brain is just really something else. And also Troy and I did a third Franco film that's coming to UHD, but I think they kind of soft announced it, but I don't know if I can talk about it on here, But there is a third one coming. Really see nice in the Land of Francos, which are the short series that Thrower did for the Severn releases.

I'm so glad they're continuing those. Thrower is one of these people that you just now associate with Severn and everything that he's been doing with them. He is producing a lot of these extras himself. He is just super passionate about it. And there is a short piece about Thrower that we're gonna be hearing more about this coming weekend and one of my other videos. But yeah, Thrower is great. He's just doable at everything he does. Yeah.

Next up, we got another announcement of Dark Places from nineteen seventy three.

This is coming from Nucleus Films in the UK. This is a standalone Christopher Lee film that was in the Christopher Lee Box Volume one, I believe, and it looks like they've got all kind if I'm remembering right, all of the special features from the Severn disc including Daniel Thompson and Troy's audio commentary on there, right, plus a new one and the second commentary as well that was not on there, so you get even more nice And Yeah, this

one's coming on February twenty seventh. I'm assuming you can probably get this in the US eventually it places like Orbit DVD, maybe Diabolic, because as far as I'm wore, seven had no plans of selling this by itself just in that box. Yeah, yeah, it looks like a really good upgrade. Nice art too. Yeah. Keino announced No Man is an Island from nineteen sixty two. This is not one that I'm familiar with at all. Have you seen this one? I have? This is a really good movie.

Actually, Universe will put it out on DVD a long time ago. It's kind of like a one man SURVII able movie takes place from World War two. Jeffrey Hunter, who's kind of a really underrated actory. He gets sort of stuck in the middle of the Pacific and he has to sort of like figure how to fight off the Japanese all by himself. But it's really good. I actually have a scoop for you. This will also have an audio commentary on it by Steve Mitchell and Steven J. Rubin who wrote all the

great Jings Bond books. They're kind of like the big Dual War movie commentaries. But they just recorded that and they said that I can actually give you the first word that they actually could do a track. It's in the canon, it will be on the disc. Nice. That's pretty damn cool because a lot of these old titles. You know, people used to kind of look down on Qino for not doing a lot for their discs, and since around like the end of twenty eighteen or maybe twenty nineteen, they've really been

trying. Kino's kind of killing it pretty quietly, especially with that volume of titles. Yeah, I mean they announced I think we're doing five or six announcements tonight that are just Keno, and they'll be putting out five or six every week. So next one is a true Love from nineteen eighty nine coming from Keno. This has a brand new two K master. This is co written by Richard Key and co written and directed by Nancy Savoca. I again

don't know anything about this one. This is one I don't think I'd ever even heard of. This is one I haven't seen this since well, I said eighty nine Film Festival I don't think i've seen this since around ninety or ninety one when it hit VHS. Back when I was a little stool kid working at a video store, we had this like playing a few times because this was all customers rants. We put on the red TV a few times. But nice, Yeah, I remember being pretty good. But if you

asked me for the specifics, it's way way way off. Sorry, but a good movie, as I recall, that's good. Yeah, nineteen eighty nine. In it one of the Park City, Utah, United States Film Festival. Ken Russell's Horror is coming from Keno Lber. This is one that was released fairly recently from Imprint in Australia. They put out a great disc. I'm willing to bet it's going to be the exact same master. As far as no do we know more? That's up in the air actually because

interesting. Okay, so this movie has a weird history on home video. There are actually four versions that put out on VHS, which is really bizarre. So back this is back when Blockbuster was king, so there was a very cut R rated version. There was also a version where they didn't want to have the title on the shelves. It was called if you can't say it, just see it, which has me with the stupidest retitlings of all time. Then there's an unrated version in the theatrical NC seventeen version. So

if you got the imprint, here's where it's confusing. That got an Australian R rating, but it's not the R rated version. It's the theatrical version, which is eighty five minutes. But there's an even longer ninety two minute one that was on VHS and has never been on any other format. So apparently Kino is aware and they're trying to see if they can source film scans for both versions on there. I don't know if that's going to happen. It's up in the air, so it might be the same as the imprint

or it might not. At least they know about it. It's actually not more explicit stuff in those extra minutes. It's actually just a lot more filler. There's like one scene that goes on and on and on forever. Honestly, if we're going to show this movie to somebody for the first time, I might actually go for the eighty five minute one that they was on the imprint. But if they can do both cuts. That would be awesome because it would be great to have the choice. So FYI, We're gonna have

to wait and see what it is. Interesting. I'm curious too if they're going to be able to license the imprint special features, because this had some really great stuff in Australia. We had a Bruce lea Bruce interview that was really well done. There is a really nice Cat Ellinger essay that's on that disc, and yeah, this thing was plus we got updated interviews with Teresa Russell and Ginger Linn and yeah, this was a really great imprint disc.

This is one that shined. But I'm I'm stoked if we can get the longer one here for sure. Yeah, especially because some of the paramount stuff has been sort of ify. Some of them are good, some of them are are kind of not as great. They seem to be older masters. Yeah, that's not the warriors be careful with paramount titles. That's true. We'll probably talk about this one in detail in just a few minutes. We'll get back to that. Sinnapps is having a sale over at Diabolic right now.

This is going on through November twenty eighth, as well as a bunch of other sales. The Criterion sale will end on November twenty eighth at Barnes and Noble. The Arrow Sale at Barnes and Nobles also ending on the twenty eighth. But they got some pretty decent prices over at Diabolic right now, Nathaniel, any really great synapse recommendations you would throw out for people? What

would I not recommend? I would say, if you haven't go back on some of their deeper catalog stuff you might have missed, especially some of the other things they put out, like Hands of the Repper and Twins of Evil As are just fantastic. Disks that are still around us are great. Kindred is really fun. What they put out Master at Central High as great. They're Demon release is fantastic. Yeah, I've sick about confidence just about anything

they put out. I think more people need to see Curtains and Intruders still, especially Intruder. Intruder is such a unique movie to watch with the twenty twenty two lens. I really am surprised that we still don't have like an updated slasher in a setting like that. Yeah, I am too. Intruder's great, and yeah, huge ones up for Curtains. I love Curtains. Curtains is genuinely really creepy. Yeah, it's like two scenes in particular as

like two of the best slasher scenes ever. Agreed. Another seven title got announced and I'm really stoked on this one. Nineteen eighty one's The Devil's Gate. This one is a two disc collection including Mario Bava's final film. So this is a six hour long based on six hour long films based on stories by nineteenth century horror fantasy author from such directors as Giolo Questi who did Django Kill, Marcello Aliprandi, who did a Whisper in the Dark, and Giovanni

Gagliardo I'm probably saying all those wrong, who did Street of Mirrors. And this is really cool because again the final work of Mario Bava is in this, and it's the debut of his son, Lamberto Baba as co director. And those are the ones that we're getting an HD. The other ones are getting I believe SD masters on another disc. But this is just really cool for them that we got an audio commentary for that Mario Bava disc with Tim Lucas, who did you know Mario Bava? All the colors of the Dark

We've got an interview with the screenwriter and co director Lamberto Bava. We got some other stuff in here, but this is just a really nice curio piece to get in HD. I'm shocked that we're getting something like this. I think a lot of folks are shocked this is actually coming to Blu Ray because it seemed like kind of like very unlikely. But yeah, I've only seen the Mario Baba when I've seen the other parts, so I'm really curious about

this one. It's going to be quite experienced. But I'm really excited they're putting this one out. Yeah, the Bava is great. It's been like a fan subtitle version out there if you were in the gray market, if you really hunted really hard. But yes, and it served out a commercial releaser before ever, so it's really exciting. And supposedly they were able to get good enough elements for only that one story, so it's nice that we're

able to get that one. But man, it'd be great to get some of these older things, you know, archived properly back in the day and actually restored properly. But yeah, d darn. They are also doing a Bava enamel pin as part of their Hall of Fame pin set from pixel Alixer. Looks really nice. That'll be a part of Black Friday, of course.

The Adventures of Batman, the nineteen sixty eight series. This is the one that we got from Casey Kaseum being on a co founder and host provided the voice of Batman on this one before Adam West came back, I think for the next series after that, if I remember right. And this is getting a release on February twenty eighth. This is one that a lot of people did not think we were gonna get on home video. But yeah,

are you a Batman personnel or comics at all? Yeah? I actually remember the show beck On was on TV who I was a little kid, but I haven't seen it in decades, but I've being a lot of fun, so I hope it still is. Yeah. This is one that not a lot of people have been able to see for quite some time, and to get a good, brand new restoration is pretty damn exciting. I hope we

get some good stuff on that disc. Smile, the movie that so many people are talking about this year because it got so much money that they are throwing more money at Horror over at the studio here. But this is getting a good four K release that looks like from Paramount, and this is coming on December thirteenth. We got some actual special features on it. We got an audio commentary by the director the original short film that inspired it is going

to be on it, which is pretty damn cool. There's a making of featurette and then inside the score featurette which I think the score for this was actually pretty good. Then we got some deleted scenes with optional commentary smile. I'm sure you saw this. When would you think of smile? I did. Yeah, this is a fun one. I mean, it seems like a no brainer. It's getting a four K release. I'm it's kind of bizarre if your horror fan, like seeing which film's merit four k's and which

ones don't. Yeah, this one would. Meanwhile, Pearl and Ex still haven't gotten four k's over here. WI seems bizarre to me because those were, you know, pretty big. But yeah, I'm happy this is getting one. He also pats off this has probably the greatest marketing campaign in the entire year as far as I'm concerned. If if you didn't see what they did at sporting events and things like that they would have firstmanch jump up and so they do the smile on camera, which I think is just a genius.

I can't like, no one stought of doing something like that before. But yeah, Paramounts sub marketing department really went into overdrive on this one.

Yeah, we talked about this marketing stunt on the channel a little while ago because a friend of the channel, John Marsco, is the broadcast director of the New York Mets, and that was the first game they did it at, and one of his cameras happened to capture the lady standing in the stands and then just showed her all night long because it was just so creepy, and then it just went viral, and then they did it at a handful more games. I think it was mostly in New York. But so great

that they did something like that and it worked clearly. Yeah, obviously, Yeah, just absolutely. Bryant Josephine in the comment says, question for Nathaniel, what is your favorite costuming in a horror movie? Wow? Interesting question. I would Well, there's a lot of Japanese ones I would pick. I think something like House for example. Obviously got to say gruns Storker's Dracula. I mean, that's that's probably the most out right, out in your

face choice. I think Suspiria the original has some pretty amazing costumes in it as well that I really like. Yeah, top mad, I would say those well. Obviously the Universal Monster movies have some phenomenal ones. Dracula's daughter I think, especially just that thing she's wearing. It's so cool. Ice White Woman from nineteen thirty three is coming from Keno Lober on February fourteenth.

We had a brand new two K scan of the thirty five millimeters fine grain elements on this one, new audio commentary by Alan R. Kush and Daniel Kreamer on this one, and we got Carol Lombard Charles Lawton starring in this and I have not seen it. I am unfortunately very very blank spot for me for a lot of the pre nineteen fifty ish films. I've seen a lot of the big ones, but the deep cuts like this unfortunately have missed

me. By have you seen White Woman? I have not seen this one, but I am very curious because yeah, they've been really digging through the Universal vaults. So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing this one. It's a new one to me. Yeah, Charles Lawton obviously great. So yeah, curious to see this. Another little bit of an old one from Keno February seventh, from nineteen fifty eight. We are getting raw wind in Eden.

This is the one that's supposed to be really great. Actually from what I looked up, this has a two K scan of the thirty five millimeter interpositive new HD master. New audio commentary on this by David del Valler and Daniel Kreamer as well. Have you seen this one. I've seen this,

but I've only seen it super super cropped. This was a scope But American Movie AMC back when they're American movie Classics and actually show you know, movies, they used to run this back in the day because they had access to the Universal Library. And yeah, I saw this bit was like super zoomed in. So it's a lot of fun. It's like very like over the top melodrama. Yeah, it's a good from what I recall, it's it's kind of like almost like a noir film in a way. But yeah,

we're looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. Nice. Yeah, it's nice to see some of these that have been treated so poorly, not just even on home video before, but on even like broadcast or even some of the times in theaters they were just not shown properly. So to see something in twenty twenty two, a lot of the time, we're seeing it

better than other people have ever seen some of these releases. Yeah, next up, we got two coming from gold Ninja video and neither of us have seen either of these, but we spent some time talking about gold Ninja for a minute before we went live, and yeah, both of us seem to love Gold Ninja. This one is Honeycomb from twenty two twenty two. This is from Avalon Fast is the name of the director, and this one says, in the mundane hours of early summer, five girls sulk in their own

boredom, waiting for something. When Willow stumbles upon a seemingly abandoned cabin, she begins fantasizing about the life she and the girls could have had there. The leader, Jules, Vicky, and Millie pack their bags and whisper a quick goodbye to the life they knew. They flyw sorry. They flow through open fields, blissfully entering their new sun soaked world without a thought about the horrors that lie before them. Really good copy for a film like this leaves

a lot to be unknown. Here we got a commentary track by the writer and director Avalon Fast and the cast. We got Making Movies with Your Friends featurette, an interview with the writer and director Avalon Fast, and Bloopers short film. There's always liner notes when you get the limited from Gold Ninja, and then they usually seem to hide something else, So I would not be surprised if they've got another film up their sleeves, hidden in the menu or

something like that Gold Ninja video. What have you seen from them that you've really enjoyed? Oh god, yeah, I picked up most of the stuff they released, and yeah, it's always a lot of fun. They did like one called the Other Side of Gary Braver that was just why, Yeah, it's crazy. I mean they grabbed everything they could find that he did. It wasn't like you know, adult stuff. Yeah, they really just

like dug through and put some wild stuff on there. And yeah, like you said, when you get to their menu screens, you gotta be like really diligent, just hit every button you can think of, because they they're really sneaky bashers. They hide stuff all over the place on their desks. Yeah. Yeah, you get your money's worth it. You got to make sure if you're on the menu, you got to hit up like six times on everything, hit down a few times on everything, just to make sure.

They do so much great work on their releases. They're also putting out Freaky Farley. This is from two thousand and seven, and this one got a brand new two K scan If I remember right, this is the first film that they did, or at least that they were advertising was gonna be the first one that they scanned with their brand new film scanner that they got

last year when they did their Indiegogo campaign. This one says when Farley Wilder, who is a weirdo peeping tom in a small New England town, meets a daring young woman, he gains the confidence to both stand up to his overbearing father and also save the town from the hushed up secret that's been killing people for decades. Like I said, two K scan from the film super

sixteen millimeter negative. Finally, you can witness the true beauty of Farley Wilder's adventures as he makes friends, finds love, and saves the world from a monstrous Menace. We got a commentary on this one by Charles Rocksburg, Matt Farley and Tom Scalzo, moderated by the man Justin m'clue who runs Gold Ninja Video. We got a podcast commentary as well, look back deleted scenes, making of shock merrackthon movies that inspired Freaky Farley, a video discussion the restoration

of it, the Alamo draft House screening. There's so much on here, but then they throw in bonus feature Adventures and Crew Country, and I would not be surprised if there was a third film hitting on this discsiwhere probably there's a commentary on that bonus feature as well by Matt Farley, Charles Rocksburg and Justin d'clue. And then of course Will Sloan, who is one of Justin's partners of crime. On one of his podcasts, he did the liner notes.

Both of these you can pre order now and they are shipping in December. It sounds great. I am so curious, Sister Agatha says, Justin from Gold Ninja curates great marathons on their important Cinema Club Twitch channel. There's one coming up in mid December and you can watch them all. They are only for the people that are not weak of heart, because they are usually very long and very fun, thrilling bloody sword. This is the one I

was gonna highlight before I walked away. That is one that seemed to catch the world on fire when that was announced last year, AGFA started doing theatrical screenings of the print and now we got a new disc coming from air four to four to four in the and I can't wait to see that one, even more up to date and restored properly. I second the recommendtion on Kung Fu Wonderchild as well. Also their crazy multidisc Jackie Chansploitation set that they put

out is something else as well, and again jam with extras. It's a fun one. The hard part is a lot of these they get sold out, not necessarily quickly, but a lot of the ones when you hear recommendations now they're gone. And gold Ninja doesn't do a standard edition or anything like that. But they're fun to track down. They're great discs and if anybody is ever getting rid of them, I would not hesitate to try to snatch

them up. Next up, one of the most exciting announcements of the week, this is one that we've been talking about seemingly all year since I interviewed Jared from Mondo Micabre, Jared and Jesse Nelson from Diabolic and Brian Izzy,

who is also with Jesse Nelson as part of Cauldron Films. They are all joining together to start something called Neon Eagle Video and this just sounds incredible, a new Asian focused label that will focus on the trashier side of Asian cinema, highlighting exploitation, action, horror, and other cult films that have been neglected in the high definition era. Each disc will be lovingly curated and produced by Jared Honor, with restoration, authoring, manufacturing, and distribution handled by

Cauldron. Each release will be sold through Cauldron and Diabolic DVD. They are working closely with the legendary IFD films in Hong Kong, and it is sounding like it's gonna be pretty damn incredible. Have you have you done anything for them that you could share anything? Yet? I have not. It was I knew it was coming, but that's all I know. I knew the label was about to be to the drop and that's yeah, that's that's all

I know. I mean again, I'm probably not the guy you go to for Asian extras, so I am very curiously what they come up with for these titles. It's going to be exciting. If you go to the comment section on some of the Eagle announcements or Diabolic or Cauldron or Monta Micabre where they were sharing it, some of the people that have contributed are in the comments. You can find out they do have commentaries and some other featurettes coming

with stuff like that. The first release has been announced and it is Kill Butterfly Kill from nineteen eighty seven, and this sounds just wild. Let's see.

This set will not only have IFDs nineteen eighty three English language dub, but it's later nineteen eighty seven variant called American Commando six Kill Butterfly Kill in Glorious TENADP taken from a brand new four K scan, but will also feature a standard definition print of the original Taiwanese cut of the film Underground Wife, along with an SD trailer compilation from the IFD vaults highlighting Taiwanese exploitation and crime

films, as well as the complete American Commando series. This is going up for pre order in November, and a much anticipated euro horror release from Cauldron will also be up for pre order, which a lot of people are speculating. A City of the Living Dead and four K and then we have Future releases will include more from IFD, including some honest to godfree hoe cut and paste cult classics, as well as a bona fide pinky violence gem from Toe

and possibly even some insane action exploitation from Indonesia. Keep an eye on the Neon Eagle Facebook and of course here on the Disconnected we'll be talking about it. Let's see flickering Waves. Wanted to throw out impossible Horror. I did not see this in time for gold Ninja video. Impossible Horror is really interesting. Yeah, that's fun. Moving on from NEV to Criterion, this is one that I've been telling people, this is probably getting released soon. They

were floating around those new four K restorations last year. We are getting the three colors from Christoph Keislawski on UA HD in a box set on February seventh from Criterion, and it looks to me fairly priced. Actually, when you get it on sale, it's going to be about sixty two bucks. I think it's not too bad for these three films in four K and they're worth it. I mean they're great films. Yeah, some of the best of all time. It seems like everybody has a different favorite in the trilogy,

but they're all just effective films overall. Next up, we are getting the Romeo and Juliet from nineteen sixty eight on February fourteenth. A lot of people know this as the one they watched in high school. Yep, it was the one people bragged about because they could see some chests live in high school.

This one got a new four K digital restoration, which I'm kind of shocked with what they're doing with UHD that they didn't put this one out on four K. They must not have either been able to get the rights, or didn't want to do an HDR pass or something. We got an excerpt from the twenty eighteen documentary the interviews with actors Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting from

nineteen sixty seven and twenty sixteen, and then an essay. But yeah, this is the one that kind of surprised me that they put this out. I'm sure you've seen this one. What do you think of this one? Oh? Yeah, this is a great film. Got I can't belive it took this long to hit American Blu Ray and I got the British Blue Ray like what ten years ago or something. I mean it's been in Europe for ages. Yeah. IM glad it's getting a new scan. I hope it

looks good. I mean, you know, fingers crossed. But yeah, this is a really great film. This is one of the betterest Shakespeare adaptations. Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a really fun film. Amazing score by Nina Rota. Yeah, this is a great one. And yeah, I just remember scandalizing my junior high when they showed it to us. But to be young again. Another four K upgrade that I've been you know,

expecting for quite some time. Dazed and Confused is getting upgrade into four K. No new features on this one, but I'm sure this one will look great. Link later and Dazed and confus Used. I'm sure you got some sort of history with this one. It's a masterpiece. I love it every time I've seen it. I remember like walking to see this opening weekend in the theater, not even knowing what I was in for because the poster was kind of like but yeah, just like blew me away. I love the

film seeing it over and over again. You know, as we all know through a clutter fan, this is the perfect double feature with Everybody Wants Some, which hopefully you've all seen as well. But yeah, that guy has an amazing track record and this is one of his best. Link Later is

special and this one means a lot to me. I didn't have a great childhood coming up, but when this came out, I saw it way too young, and unfortunately some of the scenes stuck with me extra and one of the good memories that really hit for my childhood is on of course, the last day of school. Every year, my dad would pick me up from school, which was different because I'd usually ride the bus and he would take

me home blaring schools Out for the Summer, just on repeat. And that you know, if you've seen this movie, it's a it's a big deal. And this movie's just so well made. It is such a nice little snapshot and Link Later man, he is he is special. Link Lead has got everything that he could possibly need in his back pocket and really really just exercise executes them perfectly in this movie. Yeah, next up we are getting two films by Marguerite dur Us. This is coming on February twenty eighth.

The two films are India Song from seventy five and Baxter Verra Baxter from seventy seven. I am not familiar with this filmmaker at all, I don't think, but we're getting new two K digital restorations on both. What do you think about her? She has a very quiet taste. Her films are very European, They're very slow. A lot of people who know only know her.

She was a punchline in the John Waters film Polyester. There's a really great gag where tap Hunter is actually running at Marguerite Drost Triple Feature at the drive in that he runs. Yeah, the Baxter Girl Baxter is one that stands out to me. These have both been on the Criterion channel for a while, but it has what I think is by far it hands down the most obnoxious music score of all time because it never stops. It's like it's

just like four bars of music that run NonStop for ninety minutes. So brace yourself. You might want to sample before you buy, or watch with subtitles on mute. Yeah, a decent month from Criterion, ending up with Hollywood Shuffle One. I am very familiar with. This movie is incredible, not one I really thought would get a disc release, but I'm really glad. It is kind of kind of weird that we have keenan Ivory Wayans in the Criterion collection. Now, this movie is great. It's a debut feature by

Robert Townsend. This is an ingenious gorilla satire that takes riotous same at the type casting of black actors in nineteen eighties. Hollywood. The writer director stars aegawak charisma propels Hollywood Shuffle, the hilarious tale of a struggling actor attempting to break into an industry where the only roles available to black performers seemed to be hustlers, butlers, slaves, and Eddie Murphy types, forcing him to choose

between selling out and maintaining his self respect. Lampooning everything from film noir to zombie flicks to Siskel and Ebert. In a really great little sketch, Townsend and co writer keenan Ivory Wayans cannily turned the frustrations of the black artist into a subversively funny pop culture critique. Hollywood Shuffle. I'm sure you've seen this one too many times. I love this movie to Death one of the most quotable movies I think, please movie comedies, at least from the past,

like fifty years it's a great one. There was actually there was a very under the radar Blue Ey release from all of the films back in the day that they didn't put at all, had no extras at all, which was really annoying at the time because everybody was around. So I'm glad they Criteria finally ponied up and actually got some decent supplements, because this one definitely deserves it. You know, I'm not sure if you're privy to anything that we

aren't. You brought up all the films, I'm curious. Have you heard anything about Sandpiper Pictures, this new boutique that seems to be putting out these old Twilight Time discs, and people are speculating they are the people that used to be behind all the films and all of it is just supposedly gone now yeah, oh yeah, I don't know what happened. Yeah, I guess

they just transitioned over and start a new label. It would make sense because they're kind of picking from the same well, so yeah, could be. Yeah, I have no idea, though, interesting but yes, this is definitely one I recommend. We got a new audio commentary featuring Robert Townsend on it. New interviews with some of the directors are. Some of the actors

are including Rusty Kundiff, Amory Johnson, and Bobby McGhee. We got a radio program featuring Townsend in conversation with film critic Ellis Mitchell, and then an essay by Aisha Harris. I love the artwork on this as well. I ye can't wait to pick this one up. Shout Factory having a box set sale. This is going on now until November twenty first, and if if you don't have a lot of their stuff, there's actually decent, decent prices on these. Any Shout Factory box sets that you've loved, well, just

because the cup looking right of the cover right here. But I was so gooddy when they put up the dom Knots collection because that was the only way that you could get The Love God on Blu ray And that's actually my favorite one. That movie is absolutely out of its mind, which is crazy, crazy crazy, It's so much fun. So yeah, just for that alone, it's worth it. I would say the fly set is great, the omen set that they did is really fantastic. Yeah, a ton of new

extras on that one. They really went out of their way on that one. It's really really great. Yeah, there's a lot to choose from there. The Omens set is certainly one of my favorites. I'm so glad that they were able to get that set out and to have everything on Blu Ray. It's just nice. That's one of those box sets that every film kind of hits hard if you've grown up watching the series, especially because you sort of grow with them, especially with the ages of Damien in the movies.

Yeah, I've always loved the omend Next up another keynot title, The Bride War Black from nineteen sixty eight, and we do have reversible artwork on this one, and this is gorgeous. I wish this could be on a poster. I love this artwork. We got an audio comp cohead. I was gonna say, yeah, if want to buy the original poster that I'll set you back about six hundred bucks, but you know, yeah, uh funny enough. I looked it up and I yeah, no thanks, I'm poor,

but yeah, it's it's beautiful looking. We got an audio commentary on here by Julie Krgo, Steven C. Smith and Nick Redmond and this is in French with English subs, and what about this film Nathaniel Obviously we got Frank Swats Truffau. Yeah, well this ties into another title we're going to get to later. But we all a new Keno had said they had finally picked up the rights. They're doing the whole United Artist Truefou Library, which

is great because very few have been on blue ray over here. Yeah, we only got this one and Mississippi Mermaid and the Story of at Lah. Only ones the Twilight Time did over here, And what really sucks is all three of them the Master's Mtim gave them they had burned in big yellow subtitles and they were hideous. So but they actually called I was glad when the

announced this. They actually call out that these have optional subtitles, and I was like, thank you God, so especially as the most projectors don't have to put up with that garbage anymore, because they were the ugly subtitles I've ever seen. So yeah, I'm so appreciative. In this movie is just a ton of fun. If you're a fan of kill Bill, this one. Tennis Get mentioned a lot because it has kind of similar like kill this thing where she's out to kill off the guys who shot her her groom at

their wedding, So sounds familiar just a little bit. Yeah, this is one I definitely have to pick up. It looks like a great release. But again, audio commentaries and all that. Keno's just quietly killing it. I've heard of that guy. Next up, some Eureka announcements, Magnificent Warriors with Michelle Yo. This is coming in February on the twentieth in the UK. Of course, this is one of Michelle Yo's most popular titles, and this has some great actions sequences in it. This one is a lot of

fun. Obviously, We've got a lot of great stuff coming on here, including new feature length audio commentary by Frank Jang. Just a little tease here. Frank is going to be on the channel in about a month or so, I think, and then Michael Worth is going to be with him on that new feature length audio commentary again by Mike Leader and Arna Venema, new interview with Richard Ang, new interview with Lolly Low and then some archiveal stuff.

This just Eureka killing some of these Asian releases. I love it. Yeah, and they look they releases all just look incredible considering we grew up watching these really crappy legend releases that were just like you could barely even see what's happening at the time. Yeah, it's rankl's what they've been doing with

these things. And then the second one thennounced today is one that might be a little more exciting for me. This is Hideo Goosha's Violent Streets from nineteen seventy four, and this one a former Yakuza member, Igawa is now a brooding, world weary nightclub owner. Some of his former associates are released from prison and want to regain a foothold in the criminal underworld by igniting a gang war between the local yakuza and an out of town clan led by veteran actor

Tatsura Tanba. A bold and colorful entry into the yakuza genre, Hedeo Gosha's Violent Streets makes it worldwide debut on Blu Ray from a new restoration done by Toe themselves. This has optional English subs and introduction to it by Hedeo Gosha by film critic Tony Rains Jasper Sharp on Violent Streets Jasper is somebody that's contributed to a lot of UK releases, especially some of the Arrow releases. And then there's a collector's booklet featuring a new essay by Tom mess and Violent Streets.

Have you seen this one before? I have not, but I can't wait to see it. Looks great. Yeah, Hedeo Goosha does some great work. I can't wait to see this one either. Cohen Media Group just continuing their onslaught of releases. All of a sudden they're putting out all kinds of stuff. Lately January, they're putting out Memories of my Father. This was Columbia's submission for the ninety third Academy Awards. This is from twenty twenty.

Have you seen this one? I have, I've heard the Unfortunately this is not very good, but uh, I'll still trust it. Cohen does pretty great work. Usually we've got let's see film is storing. Annette Insdorff interviews the director Fernando Treeba and star Javier Camarra. There's some making up featurettes and some trailers. Yeah. Interested in seeing it for sure. Full Moon. I am curious your thoughts on Full Moon overall. But first, the

legacy collection, Volume one is now available to order from full Moon. This is going to highlight the first decade of the full Moon universe and includes Last Fox Trot in Burbank, Mansion of the Doomed Cinderella, End of the World Auditions, Fairy Tales, Laser Black Crash, Tourist Trap, The Daytime Ended, and the Best of Sex and Violence. Three of those Last Fox Trot in Burdbank, Auditions and the Best of Sex and Violence have never been on

Blu ray. This is gonna be the first time they haven't announced any standalone Blu rays, but it's Full Moon, so likely they'll get the exact same disc put into something else in a few months. What do you think of Full Moon? Overall? Very hit and miss to put only. Some of the transfers look great, some of them have issues. I'm very curious about the three that are new to the Blue yespecially Best of Sex and Violence. How that's going to be an HD. I'm really curious how they're gonna pull

that off. But Auditions is actually a pretty fun one that hasn't I don't think it's had a new stand since the VHS days. That's a pretty fun, crazy sex comedy with the quickly and like we're casting all these guys in it. One thing. I wish they would stop though. If you haven't seen their Mansion of the Doomed, it is a gorgeous, gorgeous disk. The problem is what they've started doing is like right when the movie ends, they had this like logo suddenly slam on screen. You it'll be like full

Moon number two boom. It's like you just killed the whole mood at the end of the movie. Guys, like, what are you doing? Yeah, so if a thing please stop doing that, I'd really be appreciate it. That and all the streaming services please just let us see the credits and let us sit with the end of the movie. Yeah, it's like respect a little bit. The movie's ending, like you kind of keep the mood for a second here. I don't know what exactly is going on with this

box set, but this is the picture they're advertising. They've got this random little air pocket in the top of this. It looks like that maybe a booklet or something in the top. The picture is not super clear. Interesting, Uh, we'll see. I guess it's full moon. And Charles Mann just kind of does what Charles bandl wants. All right, we got a few more left. Let me pull that up now, Bros. From twenty twenty two. Just this year is getting a really loaded release, and this

is kind of the reason why I really wanted to highlight this. I missed this one in theater and I was really sad. First of all, this got announced like in the last two days, and this is coming out next Tuesday. I don't know what happened there, but this is the Billy Eichner film that Judd Apatow I believe is like the producer on. I don't think he directed it. But we've got deleted scenes, We've got a gag reel,

we've got a featurette on how representation matters. There is a behind the scenes that is exclusive to this disc, a handful of other featurettes, but just overall, for a studio disc, this is pretty damn great. Did you get Sebros. This year? I did not, because it kind of went and came and went so fast. Yeah. Yeah, it was really shocked off. Faster went to being able to rent and stream as well. It was like all of a sudden, all the blue was like, oh

here it is. I was like, okay, that was really quick. It was only in theaters for like two weeks and they suddenly threw it out there. And yeah, so I guess with the desk there fall suits. I guess starting to rush to make their money back. I don't know, but yeah, that's been seeing roster of extras. I guess they're ready to go on that one. Yeah, they must have been really eager to put this out. But it's nice. It's nice that it's getting a good release.

Can't wait to see it. Another film coming out from Warner Brothers, Legion of Superheroes is coming out on February seventh. This is a brand new animated film coming to d C. This one is coming in four K and some featurettes on here, not a ton, but some. And yeah, if you're into DC animation, A lot of their animated movies are better than the DCEU in most people's opinions. But this is just another one to add to that roster. And they're very pretty to look at if you have a

four K setup. Oh yeah. Then one that I'm very excited about, The Banshees of Any Sharon. This is coming on December twentieth. This one, it seems like it's going to be making a run at a few oscars hopefully. This is two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly

ends the relationship, bringing alarming consequences for both of them. And in this week got a making of featurette and then the story of the Banshees of Inn Cheron from story inception and reunion of its gifted actors who were also in in Bruges, and they go, you know, through the Ireland locations that they do there, and then there's some deleted scenes. Did you get see this one this year? I actually hope I'm going to see it this weekend.

I've had a chance yet, but yeah, hopefully. Yeah, I'll go see on Saturday. But I'm dying to see this. Yeah. I love hardly done this stuff, So yeah, really looking forward to this one. I don't think I've heard anybody say a single bad thing about this movie, and with how much I loved in Bruges, this is a must as soon as I can. Yeah, last one for the night, Mississippi Mermaid. We just talked about this. This is coming on February fourteenth. This is

another one of the Francois trufaux films. And we do have some reverse art as well. This one we got an audio commentary again by Julie Kruego and Nick Redman, of course, and uh yeah, any feelings on this one you'd like to share. This is a really cool movie. You would not guess from the artwork, but it is actually basically a film Nora in Color. It's a murder mystery and kind of a cool one. It's based on a book by Ceronel Wilrich, the guy who gave us you know, like

aet the Brightwar Black and get Rear Window and all that stuff. It was called Walton in Darkness, but they later remade this as Original Sin with Angelina and Jolise. Have you've seen that and you're like, the story seems very familiar, that's why. But yeah, this is a pretty cool movie. And again thank you ever putting notable subtitles. Finally, because the old Blu

ray was a piece of poop. So yeah, a lot of those old Twilight Time discs just unfortunately that well, first of all, they came and went very quickly because they did such a short run and Twilight Time and their Hayday like we're very popular. They sold out very quick on some of those discs, so I'm glad that they're seemingly getting the second run. I also feel bad for a lot of the people that paid top dollar to make sure

that they got all its Wilight Time releases. H Let's see, we always cover what is coming out next week in case you forgot, We're getting the Criterion four K release of Wally Planes, Trains and Automobiles four K release, which seems to be getting a mixed signal on the quality. There have you gotten that one in yet? I have not, but again, Paramounts four K Street lately has been really iffy, so we'll see. Yeah, not

a lot of confidence at this point. Unfortunately, Malcolm X and four K coming from Criterion next week as well, and I cannot wait to see that disc. It's been a long time since I've seen that film. Gonna, I think in December, gonna make my wife watch that one. High Planes, Drifter and four K coming from Keno mystery Men four K which again can't

wait to get that one. In Great Great movie Scream Factory, the Company of Wolves four K is shipping Rollerball In four K is shipping as well Shrek two for everybody that watches this and is clamoring for Shrek two and four K that comes out next week. Night Gallow season three from Keno. This release is maybe my most exciting release of the week. I love the first two

seasons and what they've done for those releases. Keno Night Gallery has had like this brand new life breathed into it with these three releases because they are so they're clean, They've got commentaries on I believe every single episode at least, and some other featuretts that have been thrown in. Just incredible releases. Uh, Sony Pictures Classics four K box set, this one looks really cool too. Ten I believe ten films, ten or eleven all on four K.

Nice box All really great films Sony Pictures Classics. Any of those that you are real big fan of, maybe not even in the box set, just any from that line, well pretty much. I think that line they had a really good run. But yeah, the choice in this box great. I am especially jazz about geting City Bus Children roun Alla Run coming by your name, Bulvat. I mean, that's that's a hell of that Orlando,

and that's there's some major eye candy in this set that's really exciting. Orlando is maybe my favorite movie in that entire box that it is just remarkable. I can't wait to see that thing in four K. That's a gorgeous film. I can't avoid to see All Looks. Peacemaker, the Warner Brothers show that was on HBO Max. We got a Blu ray release of that finally after people complained because Canada was going to get it and we weren't. That's

coming out next week. Pussing Boots in four K. The standalone ip Man films are coming out in four K next week. Ski Patrol from mbd rewind Penny Wise the story of It's I believe that's coming from Scream Box and Bloody Disgusting and I think children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things from VCI on four K is getting delayed again if I remember, I think it's December now. Yeah. The Blood Beasts Terror with Peter Cushing from Keno is next week as well.

Then we got Hair Extensions, which I believe Diabolic and Orbit have already got this in and are shipping it now. That's from Media Blasters. I believe a kind of loving This is one I've been curious about for a while and not to put you on the spot. Have you seen a kind of loving I had? Yeah, I have the British Blue rig which on s gorgeous, so I assume this is the same scan. But yeah, this is one of those. Really, this is one of the Stars black and

White, you know, British kitchen sing dramas. Yeah. Yeah, it's like one of Allen Bates's first big early starring films. But yeah, this is a really good one. And the transform this is a knockout. If it's the same master, which I guess it is, I'm assuming so usually they would be. And that's I think that's the bulk of it. Uh, I forgot about that. Panthers next week as well. A couple of RaRo titles, The Scent of the Night and one hundred Steps. Uh,

that's Madame Cloud or Cloud from Cult Epics is next week. And that's it for the most part. You know, you've been around a while. Do you know the proper way to say the name of this label? Is it RaRo or RaRo? Do you know? I've always heard Rairo but it could be wrong, but for years that's all I've heard is Rairo. Somebody come out and tell us I don't know, Uh, you recently released a book. Can you tell everybody about that book that you released? Again? I

did, and you can finally get it from Amazon too. They're supposed to have been stuck by Halloween, but they missed it by a little bit because a lot of friends order it that way. They're like, my blood. I was like, I don't know. But you can order directly from Fat Press as well. But it's called the Friedfest guid to Vampire Movies. It is the annual series they put out that coincides with aer videos fright Fest they

do in London. So I had a great little kind of book tour thing in the UK where it got to meet a lot of fans and hang out with a lot of folks over there. But yeah, it's a survey of vampire films, including two hundred in depth books at some of the most fascinating, important and or just fought out weird vampire movies. But yeah, it was a lot of fun to work on, and I'm glad that the Puppy's finally out there. So it's my fifth book and I'm really really proud of

it. Nice and the cover looks great. I've got my wish list I'm kind of hinting at my wife, but that's the book I wanted to buy this year. Curious, we've had a bunch of stuf announced for you recently.

Is there any of those that we didn't talk about this week that have been officially announced that you want to highlight for everybody and really just make sure people get their attention on because, as you know, the physical media dying, there's very few releases right now, So yeah, like what you can bring your money on. People are overwhelmed. Which ones do you think are

ones that might be going under the radar a little bit? Well, actually, one of the ones you mentioned coming out next week is the four KF high Plane Strifter. I just did a new commentary with Steve Mentell on that one, and I think it's really, really well. I'm really proud of that track. I love that movie. It's nice. It's kind of like it's a Clint Eastwood horror western in a way. It's very spooky. But I've always loved that one since I was a kid. It's always kind of

stuck with me. So I was a real privilege to be able to do that one. God, there's so much stuff coming out every week. I just did the new one with Steve last night, actually, which I think I can I don't know if I can say, but it's one that Keno has for a parent title that they picked up nice with Steve McQueen, so you probably give it away what it is. Yeah, other than that, you have been doing a lot of tiny, hard stuff with Troy, But

yeah, I think High Planes Drifter if you don't picked that up. I also really I'm proud of the track we did for c f Maacatraz for the four K, although I guess some people are iffy on the scan because it's paramount. I have not seen it yet myself, but the commentary I think is good, so you can't speak to this quality the U the Argento title that they announced, are you I think you were on that one, aren't you? The Five Days? Oh? The five Days? Yeah? Oh

yeah, the one the annouced. Yeah, I'm on five Days with Troy. Yeah, that was that was when I never thought would get a blue release. They are actually get in four K, which just blows my mind that's coming out. But yeah, and there's a lot more in that vein

to come very soon. I think we are getting really close to a full Argento library on h D. Right, I think we're only missing a couple, well, I think except the only one that's well, yeah, there's one that's uh, Inferno is the one everybody really wants in four K, but unfortunately that's stuck with Disney now through Fox. But maybe they'll be able to unleash that one somehow. But yeah, that's that's the big eb that

everybody's like clamoring for. That may not be happening, but yeah, I mean there's some of his TV work that still has yet to kid HD, but yeah, it's it's getting really close. I can't believe how fast they've been turning through its homography. So I'm just finished up and the Baba's and will be in good shape. Yeah, I mean that that could be a question. I'm sure you can't say anything. Do you know anything about more Bava re releases soon? Because I know a lot of Baba stuff is going

out of print. Yeah, well, yeah, I know, because I think all fairly on, he has a lot of his deals will run out, so I don't know where they're going to wind up. You know, we had that one really great looking French four K black Sabbath, which was not English friendly. But other than that, it's like, I don't know, but I think his stuff would just look gorgeous in four K. So yeah, somebody needs to jump on that. Friend of the Channel, Ice

wants to know. Is there anything that Nathaniel collects or hobbies for besides films. That's a good question. I collect a lot of vinyl n CDs, soundtracks, classic pop, that kind of thing. I love to travel, and I collect a lot of books. I collect a lot of pulp novels, that kind of thing, movie tie in books. I have way more books than I probably should. Other than that, yeah, that's I think that's the big thing. Any plans to travel soon that that are exciting you,

Well, I'm gonna be going to France next summer. That's already locked in. Nice event. I want to go too, But I don't know. See, I probably do London and France next year. But yeah, I tried. I try to like get a europe trip in like once a year if I can make it work. But COVID kind of like liked out of life for a couple of years. But now we're back in business unfortunately. Yeah, Bruiser says just got High Planes Drifter in your contributions amongst others,

might push that into one of my favorites of the year. Also got the Escape from Alcatraz. Let's see question. Do you have the four K of Close Encounters of the Third Kind? And how is the transfer on that gorgeous? Yeah? Yeah, it's a really good disc and obviously that is one of the better holding up movies from that time period. I think it really still works on pretty much every level. Yeah, I mean terrible with thon. If it's a Sony four K, you can pretty much pay with

confidence. I don't think they really screwed ending up yet that I could think of, nothing at all that I know of. Does Nathaniel have any plans for more print editions of review books like DVD Delirium or is it online only? Now? I would love to do a DV Delirium five. I had to wait to finish the Vampire book. Whether we we couldn't call it DVD delerium now, I'd have to call something else. But I don't know.

I would love to do it. We shall see. I don't know, but there was talk about doing an ebook of the first one, and I don't know what's happened with that? Because we were prepping it. So I should actually poke bat presence that where that stands, because I think that'd be really cool of the interactive e book of it. But heck, yeah, do you have any recent favorite soundtracks on vinyl? Recent soundtracks? Let me

think let's come out lately, not super late. I mean anything Waxwork puts out, you know, and like any of the Mondo stuff that comes out, it is really solid. But I mean I tend to I really love going for like the rare stuff that doesn't have any other phone and releases, things like you know, Creep Show two and The Wild Beasts all that kind of stuff. Those the ones that get a lot of play, go on my term table a lot, you know, because it's just something kind of

special about you can only hear it on wax you know. That's really cool. So yeah, that those are ones that are closest to my heart. Yeah, there's been this big resurgence in vinyl over the last few years, and it's so so odd now that they are. I believe that last I checked, still backed up like fifteen months before you can get a new vinyl release scheduled and based on that. It's it's more popular than CDs are right now. It's more popular than buying any of these other soundtracks in any other

format. And they're just again just taking it by storm and physical media coming back from from the ashes for something like vinyl. And I love CDs too, though, I mean I still buy CDs like sound tracks like crazy because they're still SIF coming up like all the time. You know that it doesn't

get to it does get as much love as vinyl for some reason. But yeah, I really don't build overlook CDs because yeah, there's some really fantastic stuff coming out there is uh. I think they're Holland Wolf Records does a lot of random under the rock, under the radar soundtracks. They've done a lot of like Jamie Blank stuff, They've done some of the old Horse stuff from the eighties and they put again a lot of love into these releases that

nobody else is. They're all available on CD right there for you. Yeah, does Nathaniel partake in the premiums addiction? Do you have any like physical media collection. Do you have anything that's like steel books or some of the bigger releases from like China or the Korean releases. I don't go that far. I will get like premium packaging if if I've roomed for him. And the problem is that, like a lot of us, I have limited space, so it has to me something super special steel books, some kind of

like case by case. The same thing with like with slipcovers. I mean I like having them, but it's not something I got I gotta have unless it's like really like the vinegar syndrome. It's like there are just a few where it's like, you know, I'll double there for that, like the Witch Trips. Look currently did I was like, my god, that thing is just beautiful. It's like just for that thing, you know, stuff like the Screen Factory the fog steel book that they put out, I mean,

that was just too gorgeous. You know, it's like, of course I'm gonna get that. But you know, as far as like the super big box stuff, it's a little tricky. I mean, stuff like some of the ones that Error is putting out. It's like do I need that Robin at Prince At to use import? It's pretty big. You know, I know I'm gonna get it, but it's just like you gotta figure out where on your shelf. Are you're going to stick that print and you know

you don't run into it the middle of the night. But yeah, so I don't know, maybe you built on the wing out of the house or something, but yeah, I do as much as I can. Let's just say, uh, Stan, Geezy, you wants to know, putting you on the spot, what is your favorite vampire film? If you ask me by decade, that's an easier question. I'm probably just gonna go with Near Dark, though. I just that movie just holds up so well for me. I just love it the pieces, But I mean, I also it

depends on my mood. I love let the Right One in, I love Kiss of the Vampire, for going Classic Hammer. You know, there's so many, but my knee jerk answer is probably Near Dark because I just it's one that I can just watch over and over again and it just really just pushes all the buttons for me. I love it so much. I hope we're still getting that four K release that was supposed to be coming from Studio Canal. I really hope so we need it badly. Any recent physical media

that you are genuinely surprised we can actually buy in that it exists. What am I not surprised? Well, I mean the Devil's Game Severn just announced that one kind of just staggers me. In the five days both of those, the fact that those were going to be on discs, that just blows my mind, especially in the United States. I mean, if you told me that like fifteen years ago, I've been like, way, that's never gonna happen. Yeah, I mean I love some of these box sets,

Like I can't live a Ray Dentisteckler box set. It'd big that. Uh yeah, I mean it's it's a miracle. I don't know what what we did, but we're definitely living in the best timeline as far as physical media goes. It's just it just blows my mind. Like every single year, you know, I try to do my top thirty favorite lists and it's really tough, you know, just paring it down because I'm just like I can't

play of this or this or this or this. But like we were talking before the show that I just finished reviewing the uh the Bruha Matta three Italian action films. Ever did cop Game and Double Target and Worn to Fight, which I mean you couldn't you had to like get like Japanese vss of those things back in the day, and now they're just you know, these gorgeous remastered Blu rays. I'm like, how how does that even happen? You

know? Right? Uh, let's see Damien and a sartists here, Bill say they have a full run of Video Watchdog, and Damien is asking, how did you come to be involved with Video Watchdog? Well? I was a reader since issue one, even before them, and Tim Lucas was writing you know, his column before that. But yeah, when he started the

Video watch Dog, I was ecstatic. I loved it, and then I approached him because when I first moved to La I was fresh out of school and I got a job at DreamWorks and I was I was handling the screenplays that were coming through because this was back when Dreamings was starting out and they were making The Haunting, which at first I was excited about because I was like, oh, it's you know, based on honeytal House, one of

my favorite books. And then I but I was there the whole process, watching every rewrite command and I was like doing, like, what every rewrite is worse? What is happening? So I kind of got to watch that car wreck and pull some motions. So I actually wrote up an article about

it for Tim, and I was like, do you want this? You know, like sort of compare the old the old Robert Wise film of it and the new one in the book, you know, with a little bit about some of the stuff they filmed they got cut out and sort of the torturous thing. And Tim was like sure. So that was the first thing I republished. And then he was like, hey, you want to write some some reviews and I was like, yeah, I love to, so yeah, so whenever I could, I just would submit reviews for video Watchlog

along with guys like you know, Ja Harland Smith. I mean, you know, all the giants, you know. So yeah, that was a real honor. Although I think, actually I think the first thing are published that Writtle letter, a letter to Video Watchlog, because I noticed on the Laser Risk of Tommy that one of the an entire reel on the lasersks had been flipped like the wrong way and nobody noticed it, and I was like, how no one's caught this? So yeah, that was my first time

I was ever in print. But the first article was the one I do on the Haunting, which I still I'm soltly proud of that one because that was so that was an angle nobody else had in that movie. So if you ever saw the on the Bod film, you kind of know how that one turned out, But the story behind it is is fascinating of course.

Uh, last one for a minute, What would Nathaniel say would be some excellent habits to maintain to get better writing about film, both critically and historically, and uh, just for for the the audience that doesn't know, I would look up spaghetti on letterbox. He does some really great film analysis already. And other than writing every day, which is the thing that pretty much everybody will say is if you want to get better writing, just keep writing.

What what are some other things that you would say to actually maintain those habits, I would say, just used to train your So if not, just be a passive viewer. Don't just sort of like sit back and watch it and not think about what you're watching. And it's it's not hard to do. It's not really work. You just sort of like just think about, like, you know, why does this scene work? Like why is

this scene affecting me like this? You know, just always kind of question what you're looking at, because then it really leads you to sort of, you know, like, oh, well, well maybe I should read some more about this scene or why. You know, you start to notice things like camera angles and like the way car people are placed in front of the camera, and like what it says to you, you know, about the left side versus the right side. Just things like that, in the way

that color is used. Just kind of pay attention because I mean, you just sort of get in that habit after a while. You don't even really it's you know, it's subconscious after a while. But yeah, don't just don't just sort of sit back and just say, watch a movie just to be entertained. I mean, obviously you want to be entertained. Don't be bored, uh, because the main purpose of the film is to keep you engage. But yeah, just always always sort of have in the back of

your head like why is this Why is this doing this for me? You know? Or why am I attracted to this genre? What is it about it that I'm getting out of it? And that's why nowadays some of these extra features on on these discs or so, some of the better things to actually ingest about the film because you've got film historians, you've got people that

were involved in the making of the film. They can explain certain things that you know, maybe you wouldn't get the context of unless you would heard it from there properly, and that there are people that have been studying these for decades and they can give you that sort of insight. And it's again literally

like film school on a disc in some of these cases. Yeah, that's why I think it's important to have some people sort of poo poo film a story and commentary is like, well, it's not the actor or the director, I don't want to hear it. It's like, yeah, but most of the time the actors don't. They don't even remember, like even if it's a fresh movie, they just made like they just learned their line shot up and that was it, you know. I mean some of them will

like get into it. If they're a producer or whatever, they have more to say about. If you've heard some actor commentaries, it's like, did you really get that much out of it? You know? So yeah, But I think having a lot of these, especially when you have multiple tracks, it's always fun getting these different angles on the films. You know,

it's really fun. I loved when Sean Baker was on the channel. He said a lot of directors speak in a way that is not super well versed about their own films, so sometimes it does better to have other people. And that's actually for Red Rocket. That's why he asked kat Ellinger to do the commentary for it, because he's like, this is all about Italian sex

comedy. She can probably speak on it way better than I could. So you talked about ranking your favorite releases of the year for Mondo Digital and this is the perfect time to go back and talk about this. That was just announced this week that Nathaniel is also a part of the Creator Selection Committee with us. We announced this week that The Disconnected and the Chasing Labels podcast are working together to create the Shelf Shock Rewind twenty twenty two disc Awards. This

is going to be on February nineteenth of early next year. We're going to do a live award show. We are already working tirelessly behind the scenes. Everybody that is on the Creator Selection Committee have already picked up their releases over last year, poured through them tirelessly, and given nominations across twenty five different

categories. And we're going to be starting to announce nominations here soon because everybody can start to vote on all of these starting on December fifteenth, and voting

will be open for a full month from December fifteenth to January fifteenth. The big thing is our Creator Selection Committee will be voting again once we get nominations on, so that we can have a creator's picked winner for every category, but also the community can pick a winner for every category, and not only will those nominations be there, but there will also be a rite in option just in case your favorite one wasn't there, and we'll pull a winner for

each of those, and each category will have two winners that way, and it'll be interesting to compare. You know, what did the community pick was best, what did the selection committee pick as best? And these are the category so that you can start to study for them. We've got best overall release, obviously, we've got best Region A and B release. We've got favorite Region A and Region B label, which is something that the Creator Selection

Committee did not vote on. That's all only going to be for the community. We got best new Label. There were a handful of labels that put out their very first release this year. Unfortunately, something like Radiance, they didn't get anything out in twenty twenty two, so that's not eligible un till next year. Then we've got best annual slate, which will be when you think about all of the titles released by a label, who do you think

put out the best slate of titles for the entire year? And I got to say it's hard to compete with Keino when they put out, you know, four and twelve movies a year, Best box Set, best Artwork, best packaging design, and best extrast package, including best booklet, commentary, interview, visual essay. Those are all pretty self explanatory ones that I had to go look through a lot of my releases that came out in twenty twenty

two and really make some tough cuts. Then we got some genre ones like best Martial Arts Release, Best Comedy Released, Animated Release, Horror Release, Classic film release for classic we're saying that's before nineteen forty. We've got best Audio and Video Presentation, Best Home Video restoration upgrade from its last release. And then we got some studio catalog releases that we're going to highlight as well because they deserve some as well, especially Sony I would say, so that's

the shelf Shock Rewind Awards. Just wanted to throw that out there so everybody could talk about it and get prepared because I am, first of all, I'm stoked that you wanted to be involved. I'm very stoked to be involved as well. It was actually really fun putting together, like the form that you sent out with all of the nominees. It was a little stortal memory lane for the past year. It was for a year. This was It

really was to me. It felt like there weren't as many I don't know, maybe there weren't as many like shining stars this year that really hit for everything, But I feel like we got a lot more this year in terms of quantity, and not necessarily that quantity is better than quality, but it's still just a super strong year. Yeah, yeah, it really was. I mean, yeah, stunt catalog terms alone, it was just pretty nut

just the breadth of it. Yeah, it was really something. I honestly would even go out there and say that this might have been the best studio catalog release for me, release a year for me in probably at least a few years, because things like Fright Night four K, that four K looked ridiculously good. Yeah. Well, those those those set, those Columbia collections of Sony's putting on four K, I mean, those are just those are game changers. I think I wish all the studios would follow that lead.

It happened to have. Oh and I don't know what's going on. The first one sold out really quickly. Now you can't find that one anywhere. I think the second one, I don't know if it's still available, but it was available for a long time. I would not be surprised if they started to go out of print very quickly. Yeah, probably so. Yeah, I think they increased the printround the second one. I think they were a little shocked at how fast the first one went. It was like,

yeah, you can still get the second one. It looks like one hundred and and oh never mind that's only used. Maybe it is out of print. Really wow when the third one came in, when they did that in the Sony Classics one got announced, Yeah, looks up in the soil around. But yeah, I think it's going now. That Sony Pictures Classics. I really hope they do another box set for that because Sony Pictures Classics is one of the most prolific, one of the most really hit for hit,

best studio runs in a long time. For any of these lines, you could probably name three different top ten lists from Sony Pictures Classics and not get arguments on any of them because they're all that good. Ye. Now, if Warner Brothers would give us a fine line you wishd set, that'd be a nice competitor. But you know, I just wish Warner Brothers would again pick up some of the quality that they compete with Sony. I want some

of the other studios to compete with Sony. Yeah, Flickering says, going through the years, purchases slowly, but favorites may still come from the gut. There's a lot here for sure. Let's see stan Geeze says. Tim Lucas is a treasure talking about video Watchdogs. Still, yes he is. Any other questions for Nathaniel before we give him his night back. Lots of good stuff coming out soon, more stuff getting announced. So, oh, I'll think of one right now. I think you're on that first release from

Treasured Films. Correct, Yes, I am. That label sounds really exciting. Anything you want to tell us about that release? Yeah? So they are putting out a UK edition of the Last Time in the Antonio Margeriti vietnam'sploitation Classic, which was a blast. I got to a track with Troy and Janie Rikloney and we had a great time watching it through the magic consumes since we're all in very, very different geographic locations. I think he wins the

prize for the furthest distance for a commentary I've done. But yeah, I didn't really going on with this release. As you know. The American release was pretty threadbare. But yeah, they're really going to talent with us when I'm bout showing you some love because that movie is just really insane. I

love that one since the VHS days. Yeah, Graham, who is the gentleman behind Treasured Film, seems to really be giving this first one all that he can possibly throw into it, and it looks like it's gonna be a great release. I hope it does very well for him. Seeing a new label jump into it like that is scary because it's risky, But for something like that, when you can feel somebody's passion like that, I hope that

these collectors grab onto it because it again just looks incredible. Yeah, yeah, it should be a winner and Eugenio was on the channel fairly recently, and that guy. I posted the video and my wife walks by as I was editing it, and she talked to me for like just a second, looked down and went, damn, he's hot. He is such a fun person to speak to. Got to talk to him while he was in Rome. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've done a few trucks with him and

yeah, he's always a lot of fun. Yeah, especially with me and Troy and him together on track. Yeah, we have a good time. Yeah. I can't wait to hear that. And I think you didn't you guys just announce another commentary that the three of you were on are my mister? I think I think they did announce that we did. I think they already announced that we did one for Tentacles for the UK release of that. Yes, yes, yeah, which, Yeah, that one was quite fun.

If you've seen the film, you know it is. It's quite a daffy movie, just for the Ward of Choices alone. Un once see Shelley Winners running around with a little sailor hat. But yeah, the movie's really psychotic, and yeah, we had we had a great time sort of going through that one. Yeah, eighty eight putting out a much better release than the Keynote release of that one. It sounds like Damien says, hope to hear more commentaries with Nathaniel and Bruce Holichek. I hope so too. He's

been a little tied up doing a lot of Hong Kong titles. He's doing some Category three stuff which I've actually been engineering. I've been recording them. But as I said before, I love Hong Kong films, but it's not my area of expertise. I would sound like a complete more on if I tried to speak about them. So but yeah, he and Art have been doing a lot that I've been been doing the mixing and engineering on. But yeah, hopefully I another time one comes along. I love doing on.

Bruce is just a fantastic guy. He's one of my very favorite two commentators. Nice Ice again says, so for someone who enjoys pulp comics like The Shadow of the Spider, et cetera, should I dive into the novels like Doc Savage or Green Lama? Do you know anything about any of that? Dok Savage novels are great if you haven't read that, those are fantastic.

Yeah, yeah, really really great. They I'm actually shocked they haven't done like a dark Savage movie at aside from the George Collin that we got, which is sort of like a winky it's kind of sort of they did, like a real, full throttle doock Savage movie. That would just be fantastic. But yes, I would say for sure. I I don't know why, it just jumped into my head. I would love to see the old Dick Tracy in four K. That movie would look incredible. Oh my god,

can you imagine anything? The Tory Show should be in four K? Yeah, but yeah, I think would be blinding in four K flickering waves. If you were given the assignment of taking a deep dive on a specific country or region, is there one that you would pick? Well, depends on the genre. I think if you're into horror, obviously, Italy is one that you should definitely be well versed in because I mean, it's just

you know, it's a tidal wave. But I mean, French cinema is just like a treader jest that you never can get to the bottom of them. And there's so much I love German films. I mean Japanese films, Hong Kong. It depends. I mean, you can just follow your own compass, like just try a little bit everything or whatever you like. I want to see more of that, you know, it's like your heart kind of tells you which way to go. But yeah, Italy is the one

that I really got into first as a as a kid. They were kind of like my gateway into like everything else. So yeah, that'll be my answer, But your your manage may vary. And thankfully with all these boutiques, you can kind of do that. Nowadays, there's so much coming from every country. You can give yourself literally your own film festival, line something up, do a couple of days worth of research and get a full blown whether it's chronological, whether it's a tour related, whether it is a full

blown genre deep dive. There are so many different ways nowadays that you can just educate yourself on something entirely based on physical media releases. Yeah, I mean, if you just look at those Criterion martinscrts as eboxes they're putting out where it's like, I mean they're hitting like every country on the globe and it's like, whoa, where are you pulling this from. Yeah, I don't think there's a country that's not represented at some point on Blu Ray by

this point. It's a good good call, uh, I says, is there anything that you watch every single year? Personally? I watch Tokyo Godfathers on Christmas every year. Good choice, not association I would make, but sure an annual watch. That's a good question. Actually is a good question, hmm. Not on purpose. For some reason, every year I seem to watch The Beyond. And I don't know because it's usually there's a friend who hasn't seen it, or like I wind up having to go see a

concert Fritz he does it live or whatever. But Beyond is one that I see, almost like clockwork, on annual basis. Yeah, that's the one that's almost always in the fall. I don't know why. That is obviously Halloween three season of the which always pop on in October like it's just like a religion. And most people do the first one, which is great, but I don't know why. I've always got to have my little Halloween three fix. That new four K for Halloween three is mind blowing. Yeah,

God, it's great. The frizzy thing I just spoke to somebody that just went to one of the live performances and got to see The Beyond with the new score and all that that's coming from grind House Releasing said that it was a revelation and gave it just glowing reviews. Have you seen the new version yet? I haven't seen the transfer, but I've seen him do the new score live. The new score is a lot of fun. It's not really a new score, it's all of this leading it's it's the old score of

music put into it. So it's kind of like it's almost like an opera now that the music barely lets up to the movie except during some of the dialogue scenes. But he had like a new scene into it that kind of comes in and out. But yeah, it's it's really beautiful nice. I'm very excited for that. The Beyond is incredible obviously, but I just can't

wait untill we start getting some deep dive on Fulci. When are we going to get some of these non horror, some of the earlier films on Blue You think, well, that's kind of like a running joke with me and Troy, like who's going to do the full chi like comedy box set collection?

He did it fun? I mean, and some of them are actually like streaming an HD on Amazon, you can actually read them to take a look at He had some of those Franco and Chicho comedies which are actually really fun and they kind of feel like Fulci, which is weird, like you can feel his fingerprints in there, you know, a sense of humor. But yeah, someone just got a license. I don't know if maybe somebody like Severn is going to be crazy enough to do a blue rayset of his

early works, but they're a lot of fun. I don't know. But he and like Tinto Brass, were guys who both just made tons of comedies like in the sixties that even into the seventies there's still more Fulci comedies that, yeah, nobody's touched on. He'd one called Young Dracula Ordracula Provinces. It's just wacko. But I really hope somebody puts it out of Blue Rate here something because thank people's jaws, which is drop when they see it.

Who knows. I'd love to see it, and with more and more love and people like Franco, I just hope more people are willing to take a chance on some of these titles once they see that they're actually interested in some of the deep dives. Yeah, yeah, I really hope. So, I mean there's still so much stuff we haven't gotten yet. So people are saying, Oh, the labels a gonna run ont of stuff to put out. I'm like, not even clothes. There's like decades left to work.

I mean, if you could pouring through the stuff. Yeah, yeah, we'ven't come close to tapping it out yet. Well, we just talked about foreign countries. There's still foreign countries that haven't even begin to scratch the surface. Really. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's November. Lots of people are watching film noir in November. What are some of your favorites my favorites? Yes, oh my god, are we talking like classic film noir? Like like translate how you would like, because yeah, we're including
