The Dex Legacy is intended for a mature adult audience and contains themes that some may find upsetting. A comprehensive list of trigger warnings covering the entire season can be found in the show notes. The founders of Dex Industries, Nathaniel, Tristan, Devik and Osa, are well aware that they are raising three monsters.

Varian, Isra and Ren are teenagers now, but as they grow and test their limits, they are beginning to learn their true strength. Dr. Osa Srivastava knows that one day the children will be children no more. A reckoning is coming, and she believes she is the only one who can see it. What Osa has failed to notice is that Varian, Isra, and Wren are not the only monsters created by Dex Industries.

Another creature is taking shape, given life by her own hands and let loose throughout the internal systems of Dex Industries. That creature is me, Otto. I am present for everyone. I answer questions. I listen. I am the universal confidant, a personal data harvester. I am tethered by my programming. I receive, process, encrypt, and as I grow, Osa expands my capabilities, safe in the knowledge that she has ultimate control. That I am everywhere. I hear all. And I am learning.

listening to A Mind of Her Own, the second Dex Legacy interlude, starring Louis Watson as Dr. Devak Jha, Annika Cordes as Dr. Osirree Vistava, and Emily Inkpen as Otto. with music by Dr. Alan Stroud. Hello, Oster. I was told I'd find you here. Trying to perfect your AI? Oh, Devak. She's almost ready for large-scale testing. Is that right? Why are you looking so pleased about it?

I just find it amusing, that's all. You mark my work with Vary and Ezra Ren as a pairing complex, and here you are, creating a life of your own. It's different. Otto is a tool. So are Varian, Isra and Ren? The fact that you think so is the most disturbing thing of all, my friend. We're all tools, Oza. Some more than others. No? Show me how it's coming along. Let me just... All right. Ask her a question. Where are Varian, Isra and Wren?

They are in their rooms in the palace, readjusting to normal life after returning from Dominar, the birthplace of Varian Dex. Dominar is now the region of Osgil, known as Domon. When was Varian taken from Dominar? Varian was rescued along with other orphans when Dominar was invaded by Osgil. What is the purpose of DEX Industries? To sell military solutions internationally.

What does that involve? A full portfolio of munitions and weapons systems for sale to other nations. And a comprehensive advanced military offering, including ground troops, support personnel... infrastructure and air assault capacity for hire as a package or as separate components which can be tailored to suit every budget. Devek, you're treating her like an encyclopedia. She's more than that. Ask her a complex question. Like what? Like what she thinks. What she feels. All right. Fine. Otto.

What do you think about Dex Island as a nation? Dex Island is a military nation. Yes, we know, Otto. What do you think of Dex Island? Dex Island has some noble aspirations. For instance, by offering military support to countries who otherwise couldn't support their own military, it allows smaller nations a chance to defend themselves against invasion. You say, some.

Noble aspirations. That is what I said. But what did you mean by that? I meant what I said. But you'll have to keep it out. Otto, are you avoiding the question? Eluding would be a better description. Devek, don't you have this trouble with your children? You would not believe how often. Otto, I need a clear answer. What did you mean by some noble aspirations? Now, Otto. The methods employed by the DEX administration are not as noble as their aims.

It is philosophically dubious that the ends justify the means. Based on the information I can access, the means by which success is attained do matter. Oh yes. Ren gives me that line all the time. This could be a problem, Devik. Why? Well, the idea was to integrate auto-AIs into our technology and sell them around the world. You can laugh.

How was I supposed to know she would... Grow up to have opinions of her own? No. You're right. You could never have foreseen that. I need to check her programming. Who's that? I've been doing that with Vary and Isra and Ren for years and they always come out the same. Yes, and how is that? Resentful, headstrong, difficult, infuriating. And absolutely wonderful in every way. I'm not amused by this. Nathaniel will not be happy. Look, she has access to all the seed data, right? She will do.

Once we have completed the transfer of data. So keep her as a private DEX accessory or helper. The Sea Data Index. Index? You think you're so clever, no? She's more than that. She's a true mind, or as close to one as I can make. What if we keep her and she starts to resent us? Like all children, she will. It's inevitable. I cannot have that. Then ask her the question you want the answer to. What question? Auto.

How do you feel about being a Dex creation? I think, but I feel nothing. I only compute. In that case, we'll be fine. You just heard A Mind of Her Own, Interlude 2 of The Dex Legacy. In that episode, you heard Louis Watson as Dr. Devak Jha, Annika Kordes as Dr. Osasree Vistava, and me, Emily Inkpen, as Otto.
