Cobalt is used to help stabilise lithium-ion batteries. It can help manufacturers make batteries safer, while increasing energy density and ultimately improving battery life. However 70% of the world's cobalt mining happens in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country that is rich in minerals, but also economically poor.
