This is the Daily Dog podcast for Thursday, February thirteenth, twenty twenty. I'm your host Joel Owns and today's dog is Jack, a Labrador retriever who once saved the life of his owner. Lauren samples from the Paradise after Dark and It's hard to talk about podcasts. Okay, Well, I want to tell you about my dog Jack. He actually saved my life one time. I think we actually had like a burglar try and come in my house one
morning at seven thirty in the morning. And the way it was set up was the we had a laundry room that led into the garage, and Jack would stay in the laundry room because he was still kind of a puppy. He was maybe like six eight months old at this time, and so he would he would stay in the laundry room, and I was upstairs. I was actually in the shower, which is like the worst creepiest time for a burglar to come in your house, right, yeah, like psycho, right
exactly. So I'm in the shower and I hear him downstairs just going absolutely nuts, and so I jump out of the shower and and I grab a towel and I ran downstairs, and I see in the launching room that the door leading from the launching room out into the garage was open. This was in I want to say January in Maine. This is when I was living in Maine, so there is no way that that door would have been open under any circumstances. And I let Jack out of the launcher room and he
meticulously went through the entire house. We had a town home at the time, and he went to every single room, every single closet. It was like he was looking for someone. And I think that whoever tried to get in the house, they must have come in that door, and he just went into attack mode and they just ran. And I actually ended up calling the police and they came and they found footprints in the snow leading out like
from our garage, like back out into the woods behind the house. And the creepiest thing about it was that my husband had just left for work like fifteen minutes earlier. It was only like seven thirty in the morning. So that makes me think that somebody was like watching and knew that I was home alone, or I don't know. I just credit him for saving my life absolutely. Yeah, So did that incident spur your interest in your true crime
enthusiasm. Uh no, actually I was already. I've been a hardcore Forensic Files fan since I was about eleven, and yeah, pretty much, I've I've always been a true crime fan. And now I have a true crime podcast. Yeah, this would tell us about that I'm a fan, but our listeners may not know you. So my husband Ken and I host a podcast called Paradise After Dark and it's true crime, unsolved mysteries, missing people, and urban legends, all based in the state of Florida. Our tagline
is actually exposing the dark side of the Sunshine State. Very cool. And you have a side project that's all you without your husband Ken, Yes, I do. I have my own little passion project. It's called It's Hard to Talk About Podcast and it's basically an interview podcast where I have anybody come tell me something that's hard for them to talk about and I've had Oh, it's all over the board the stories. I think I'm at about twelve episodes.
Seven have already been released, so there's more coming. But I mean it's basically the raw real, you know, let's end the stigma of mental illness. Let's just tell the truth, the what's hard to talk about, Let's put it out there. And I love it because I feel like the people that have come on my show and told their story, I feel like it helps them to just you know, just tell their story. Hoping that
it's helping listeners. Yes, exactly, And I've had almost every single person tell me, Wow, that felt really good to just tell the story. And then I'm hoping to help listeners who may be in similar situations or know someone in similar situations, to feel less alone and more empowered or hopeful. Yeah, that's like my passion project. Wonderful. So where can people find
out about Paradise after Dark or it's hard to talk about podcasts? Well, both podcasts are basically on every platform, iTunes, Google podcast, Stitcher pod being all of them. We do have a website for Paradise after Dark. It's Paradise after Dark dot com. And from the website you can get the latest episodes. There's links to our Patreon, there's links to or Etsy store
and everything, and yeah, it's not hard to find. We have a Facebook group for It's hard to talk about, which has turned into something really wonderful. I think we have like about two hundred and fifty members on it right now, and it's just a bunch of people encouraging each other and posting. You know, if somebody's down that day, they post about it. And there's a lot of love and uplifting content on there which is really great.
And the Facebook group is actually called It's hard to talk about Well great, Lauren. Thank you so much for telling me about Jack and about your two podcasts.
