Prime Minister Anthony Alberizi has today announced a new anti Semitism task force to be led by the Australian Federal Police. It comes after a Melbourne synagogue was firebombed last Friday in what authorities are now treating as a terrorist attack. The task force will be comprised of members of the
afp AZO and State and Territory police forces. In a separate press conference today, Victoria Police Commissioner Shane Patton said labeling the arson attack as a terrorist incident would allow for quote the best resources, best skilled investigators and people who are experts in this field to work on the case.
Supermarket giant Woolworts has projected it has lost one hundred and forty million dollars following strikes among workers at four distribution centers in Victoria and South Wales. The financial update comes after hundreds of workers went on strike for more than two weeks before the sector's union reached a new
pay agreement with the supermarket giant on Saturday. Woolwarth's group CEO Amanda Bardwell said all impacted sites are now operational again and has apologized to customers for the disruption.
In the lead up to Christmas, rebel forces have taken control of Syria, marking the collapse of the government and end of the Assad family's fifty four year rule. Over the weekend, a coalition of rebel groups declared the country free of President Bashar al Assad. Hours later, it was reported that he had fled the country for Russia, who
is a close ally of Syria. It's the culmination of a two week campaign that was led by Islamist militant group Hayatariir al Sham, which Australia currently lists as a terrorist organization.
And for Today's Good News. Over the weekend, Notre Dame in Paris reopened five years after a fire tour through the eight hundred and fifty year old cathedral. In April twenty nineteen, a fire engulfed the building, destroying most of the wood and metal roof and the spire. Immediately after the fire, French President Emmanuel Macron said the church would be restored quote more beautiful than ever within five years. At its reopening, Macron said the bells of Notre Dame are ringing again.
