Parliament will be recalled early next week to pass hate speech laws. Following the Bondai terror attack last month, Prime Minister Anthony Alberzi confirmed the Federal Parliament will return early next Monday to debate a bill aimed at combating anti Semitism, hate speech and extremism. Albanesi calls the bill a quote comprehensive package of reforms which creates serious offenses for hate
preachers and leaders seeking to radicalize young Australians. The proposed legislation would also expand and strengthen the existing ban on prohibited Nazi symbols and make it easier for the Home Affairs Minister to cancel or refuse visas for people who spread hatred.
Conditions are easying on bushfire battlegrounds in Victoria, but officials are warning the threat is not over. Multiple blazers across the state have destroyed around one hundred homes, killed livestock and cut power. On Sunday, police confirmed a man in his sixties was found dead in the Longwood Bushfire area, about one hundred and thirty kilometers north of Melbourne. His body was discovered around one hundred meters from a car
that had run off the road. Conditions have eased around Longwood, with cooler temperatures and lighter winds aiding efforts to bring the fire under control. However, hot and windy conditions are expected to return later this week. At the time of recording, two emergency warnings remain in place for blazers in the
states northeast and southwest. With twelve major fires still burning across Victoria, premieresinter Allen has announced assistance payments of up to fifty two thousand dollars for eligible uninsured households, with expanded support for farmers. Also announced.
A man has been charged in Bondai following reports he was wearing a vest covered in duct taped objects and acting suspiciously. Police were called to Bondai Junction on Sunday night, where they arrested a Victorian man. After searching the man's car, police allegedly found another duct taped vest, a face mask, and a tin believed to contain illegal drugs. Both vests were deemed safe after being examined by bomb disposal Unit officers.
The thirty three year old was refused bail after being charged with offensive behavior.
And today's good news, Australian actor Rose bern has won her first Golden Globe. Burn was named Best Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy for her performance in the film If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You at this year's ceremony in la She was one of five ozsies nominated on the night, but Sarah Snook, Jacob E, Lordi, Nick Cave and Joel Edgerton all missed out in their categories.
Burne expressed her shock at winning during her acceptance speech, telling the Golden Globe's audience quote, we shot this movie in twenty five days for like eight dollars fifty. Thank you so much. This is a tiny film, so this is a huge thing to be up here. The Sydney born actor is tipped to receive an Oscar nomination this year, but we'll have to wait until the twenty second of January to find out.
