Ahead of the federal budget tomorrow, the Labor government has announced it will cut spending on outsourced private consultants by seven hundred and twenty million dollars, which it says is part of its plan to rebuild the public service. Finance Minister Katie Gallaher said this means the government can quote invest in the things that matter most like cost of living, support,
medicare and housing. Despite the savings, the government is set to record a deficit for the first time in three years tomorrow, meaning it will be spending more than it earns in taxes. On Sunday, Opposition treasurer Angus Taylor said on ABC's Insiders, government spending continues to grow at a rapid rate to the highest level we've seen for fifty years. The public service has not been able to deliver the outcomes we want to see in areas like health.
Independent MP doctor Monique Ryan has apologized after her husband Peter Jordan, was filmed removing a sign of her rival. Liberal candidate. Ryan is going up against liberal candidate Emelia Hamer in the seat of Kujong at the upcoming election. In a statement, doctor Ryan said, I apologize for the
removal of the sign. It should not have happened. Ryan's husband also apologized and explained he believed the sign had been illegally placed, but said he should have reported his concerns to the council.
The death toll in Gaza from ongoing Israeli attacks has surpassed fifty thousand, according to data cited by the United Nations. This death toll counts from the seventh of October twenty twenty three, when the terrorist organization Hamas launched attacks on Israel, killing nearly one thy two hundred people. The recent rise in the death toll comes is Israel last week launched its largest attacks in the Gaza strips since Phase one of a seas took hold in January.
And today's good news. At forty years old, American skier Lindsay Vaughn has become the oldest woman to have stood on a Skiing World Cup podium. Von won silver in the women's Super G, which is a speed event, at the Alpine Ski World Cup Finals on Sunday. The four time olympian retired in twenty nineteen, but returned to the sport at the beginning of the season following a knee reconstruction. The forty year old said after the race, age is
