From the Daily Os. I'm emma, i'm zara. It's Monday, the sixth of January. Here's what's making headlines this evening.

The federal government has promised to spend seven point two billion dollars to upgrade one of the country's most dangerous stretches of road. That's if it wins reelection this year. Prime Minister Anthony Abernezi announced the funding for Queensland's Bruce Highway during a visit to the state Sunshine Coast on Monday. The near seventeen hundred kilometer highway connects Brisbane and major

regional centers across Queensland. According to the government, it has an average fatal and serious injury crash rate three to five times higher than any major highway in New South Wales and Victoria. Forty one people died on the Bruce Highway in twenty twenty four, with a death toll for twenty twenty five already at two after a fatal crash on Friday.

Melbourne Airport's second runway has reopened up after safety concerns forced a passenger plane to abort takeoff yesterday. The Eddyhard flight was scheduled to fly nearly three hundred people to Abu Dhabi when its pilot reported an issue with the plane's wheels. All passengers were safely disembarked on the ground last night, but the plane remained on the runway overnight for safety inspections, blocking one of Melbourne's two runways and

causing delays and disruptions. A statement from Melbourne Airport confirmed the aircraft had been safely towed from the runway, with operations resuming this morning.

Blizzard warnings are in place across large parts of North America, with a state of emergency in place for six US states. A winter storm surge has brought heavy snow and ice to areas including Kansas, Missouri, and Virginia, as well as much of Canada, with severe weather warnings impacting at least

sixty million residents. Thousands of flight services have been disrupted as America's National Weather Service worn some states could see the heaviest snowfall in at least a decade, with prolonged power outages expected.

And today's good news, seventeen year old Luke Littler has become the youngest ever World darts champion. The English competitor defeated three time world Champ Michael van Gowen from the Netherlands. Over the weekend seventy three, Littler was awarded a cash prize worth nearly one million Aussie dollars for his efforts.
