Victorian Supreme Court Justice Christopher Beal has handed Aaron Patterson three life sentences with the possibility of parole after thirty three years. Earlier this year, Patterson was found guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder after she served her estranged husband's relatives a beef Wellington lunch that included death cap mushrooms. Prosecutors alleged she put them in the meal intentionally, while the defense argued it
was a mistake. Today, Patterson was also sentenced to twenty five years in prison for attempted murder. Her sentences will be served concurrently. The prosecution had argued Pattison should be jailed for life without parole. However, it agreed with the defense that her prison conditions are quote harsher than usual. Beale agreed with the defense and also found it is likely she will be in solitary confinement quote for years to come, which meant he did not consider it fair
to sentence such a life without parole. Speaking outside the court in Wilkinson, the sole survivor of the fatal lunch, thanked the prosecution and urged everyone to be kind to each other.
Over the weekend, Israel bombed three high rise residential buildings in Gaza City as part of its military takeover of the entire enclave. There are no reports of numbers of deaths yet, though Israeli air strikes on Saturday night killed at least fourteen people. That's according to the Hamas run
local health ministry. Residents told the Associated Press the Israeli defense forces gave them a warning about twenty minutes before the attacks, while Reuter's reports the evacuation orders told civilians to go to the city of carn Unice on the coast. Israel has repeatedly bombed carn Unis over the last two years, including a strike on the headquarters of the aid group the Palestinian Red Crescent, killing AID workers about a month ago.
Israel said it had struck the buildings because they contained Hummas infrastructure, acclaim Hamas has denied. Also over the weekend, US President Donald Trump posted the Truth social calling on Hamas to accept a deal to end the war and release the hostages the group took on the seventh of October twenty twenty three, saying was his quote last warning and that Israel has accepted his terms. Hammas said it was discussing ideas with mediators about the deal.
The E Safety Commissioner has issued a warning to a UK based tech company that is believed to be quote enabling the creation of child sexual exploitation material. The E Safety commissioner Our position, currently held by Julie Inman Grant, is the government's independent online safety watchdog. Imman Grant said she found the company, which she did not name, was operating two of the most popular AI generated nude deep
fake image websites in the world. Deep fakes are realistic, fabricated or manipulated videos or images designed to mislead viewers. The Commissioner found the web sites had one hundred thousand visitors a month in Australia and were being used to generate deep fakes of school students. She said the quote new tofy services were being used by students quote to
create deep fake image based abuse of their peers. If the company doesn't comply with the warning, in wan Grant said it could face a fine of up to forty nine point five million dollars.
And today's good news to kick off your week. The UK's National Health Service has found AI software could significantly increase the recovery rates for people who have had strokes. The NHS has been trialing an aisystem at its stroke centers in England, which interprets brain scans quickly, allowing doctors to make treatment decisions faster. When a person has a stroke, they rapidly lose brain cells, meaning doctors need to act
quickly to improve their chances of recovery. A preliminary study has now shown three times as many people could recover from strokes with the technology in place. The treatment has been used more than sixty thousand times since it was introduced last year.
