The jury in the trial of accused mushroom murderer Aaron Patterson are a step closer to deliberations, with the defense making their closing arguments today. Patterson is accused of deliberately poisoning four members of her strange husband's family, killing three. In his final remarks, Patterson's defense lawyer, Colin Mandy, appealed to the jury to absolve Patterson if they believe the
poisonings were unintentional. He said, if you think that maybe she deliberately poisoned the meal, you must find her not guilty. If you think that it's likely that she deliberately poisoned the meal, you must find her not guilty. With closing arguments from both the defense and prosecution now complete, the jury is expected to begin deliberating a verdict next week, pending further instructions from Justice c BIL.
The unemployment rate has held steady at four point one percent for a fifth consecutive month, according to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The strike part of a broader attack which saw Russia send two hundred and twenty drones and thirty two missiles into Kiev. According to international media reports. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has called it quote one of
the most terrifying strikes against Kiev. The attack comes against a backdrop of stored peace talks following more than three years of conflict in the region. Around twelve five hundred civilians are estimated to have been killed in the war since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in twenty twenty two. According to UN data.
And Today's Good News, US authorities have approved a new HIV prevention vaccine ahead of an anticipated global rollout. HIV is a virus that attacks the cells in the body which can fight off diseases. In a world first, a new vaccine can successfully quote reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV in adults and adolescents. Clinical trials of the twice a year immunization reported ninety nine point nine to
nine percent of participants continue to remain HIV negative. Gilliad Sciences, which developed the technology, said the vaccine is one of the most important scientific breakthroughs of our time and offers a very real opportunity to help end the HIV epidemic.
