Nationals MP and former Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has confirmed he's in talks with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, following an announcement over the weekend that his relationship with the Nationals has quote irreparably broken down. While there have been reports that Joyce could join One Nation, he confirmed
today that nothing is locked in. When asked on ABC Radio National about his thoughts on Pauline Hanson's party, Joyce said it's done a quote good job, adding its climate policies were quote not barking mad like others are as. The coalition's net zero debate continues to rage.
On Two police officers were transported to hospital following protests in Melbourne on Sunday. Demonstrators turned out against a nearby anti immigration rally organized by the March for Australia group, forming a sizable counter protest. In a statement, Victoria Police said it was quote appalled at the behavior of some of the protesters who quote pelted officers with rocks, glass bottles and fruit. The police confirmed officers used pepper spray
and rubber bullets over the weekend. Victorian Premier Justint Allen said We've all had enough of some a smaller number of people who are choosing to bring violence to our streets.
A defamation case against Liberal Senator just Into nambergenper Price has begun in Darwin this week. The case was brought against Nambujinpa Price by Central Land Council Chief Executive Les Turner, who alleges the senator quote trampled on his reputation. The allegation centers around a media release published on the politician's website which made claims that Turner quote no longer had the support of the majority of Central Land Council members
because of his unprofessional behavior in that role. The CLC is an organization that represents First Nations people in the Northern Territory. Nabajiber Price will give evidence later in the case, but is expected to use the qualified privileged defense, which protects individuals who make defamatory statements under certain conditions.
And Today's good News, the World Triathlon Championship in Woollongong concluded over the weekend, and the five day event saw two Australians emerge as world champions. On Sunday, Matthew Hauser won the men's triathlon by a healthy margin of thirty four seconds to become the first Australian man or woman to win a senior triathlon World championship in fifteen years.
On the event's opening day last week, Rochelle Hill won the women's under twenty three race in a thrilling sprint finish to cement her status as one of the rising stars of the sport.
