Good morning and welcome to the Daily OS. It's Monday, the fifteenth of December. We had a podcast planned for you this morning, which we had written, recorded and scheduled to land in your feed. But then on Sunday evening, gunman opened fire at Sydney's Bondai Beach, where a Jewish community event was being held to mark the beginning of Hanukkah. At least twelve people, including one of the alleged shooters, were killed at the scene and twenty nine people were

taken to hospital. We're going to be back this evening and tomorrow morning with more details from the shooting as they come to us. For now, we wanted to bring you a short rap of what we know so far. As previously mentioned, we know that on Sunday evening, as Jewish community members gathered at the northern end of Sydney's Bondai Beach, two gunmen opened fire. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Premier Chris Mins said the attack was

designed to target Sydney's Jewish community. State Police Commissioner mal Lanyon confirmed police are treating it as a terrorist attack. He said one of the suspected gunmen is dead and the other is in custody. Lanyon added that police are investigating the weapons use, as well as a vehicle in

Bondai suspected to have improvised bombs inside. After Minns spoke, Prime Minister Anthony Albernizi spoke to media from Parliament House in Canberra, where he said he'd just come from a meeting of the National Security Committee, a group of senior cabinet ministers. He said federal authorities also consider this a terrorist attack, calling it an act of evil anti Semitism.

Albinizi also mentioned the bravery of civilians on the ground in Bondai, including the man whose social media footage shows disarming one of the gunmen. That's all we know so far. In the coming hours and days, there will be a lot of information flying around. Some of it will be true, some of it will be false. Our job and our commitment to you at TDA is that we will only publish updates on this story when we are confident in the information we're seeing from primary sources we talk to

or hear from ourselves. You'll hear from us again with the headlines this afternoon. Until then, take care of yourself. Help is always available at lifeline that's on thirteen eleven fourteen
