Episode description

Hollywood has, for better or worse, had a longstanding tradition of adapting everything under the sun into a film. We've seen books and plays adapted to the big screen and, as we've entered the modern era, seen the same treatment offered to graphic novels and comic books, too. We've even seen fringe items like toys successfully adapted with The LEGO Movie and Trolls. Nevertheless, there's been one genre that hasn't been able to rise above the fray: video games. While films about video games — think Wreck-it Ralph or Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle — have performed well, for whatever reason, adaptations of existing franchises simply have not been good or successful. In this episode, we take a look at some of the worst offenders. Join us as we discuss World of Warcraft, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Prince of Persia, and briefly touch upon Assassins Creed and Doom.
