Welcome to The Cult Classic Horror Show. Every week you can have the conversations you've always wanted to have about the films you love. Get rid of your distractions and prepare yourself. Welcome, welcome everybody to The Cult Classic Horror Show Danny Bohnen here. We are the blood brothers and me and Robert. And that's right, I'm sorry we were recording. Yeah, but Robert Carmelo's. I'm doing a little problem today.
Yeah, yeah, it's normal for Rob. It was just abnormal for Carmelo so I was like, that was great. Sorry, were you recording? I'm just a little brain dead from this movie to be honest with you guys. Yeah, the movie is amazing. Not as brain dead as poultry guys, but I'm definitely mesmerized. I'm speechless. Brain dead is a better effort from Peter Jackson. Oh brain dead. Yeah, was that a plan on words there or Carmelo? I like that. Oh, that's good. Did you plan those words out?
I never planned my words. I just wing it, you know. Okay, okay. Wait, wait. Wait, here we are recording in the morning. Geez. You guys don't know this listening, but if you look on YouTube, we all are in very bright rooms. It's like I could get used to this 10 a.m. mountain. Yeah, it is nice. I like it. I sort of like the after work. You know, whiskey I have with you. Yeah, that's nice too. That's nice too. That's nice too. So, you know, you can switch it up though. Here we are.
We have taken up. Apparently, we're taking a break from our horror podcast to do a obscure comedy podcast on Meet the Feebles. Me too. Me too. Me too. It's kind of hard. It's hard. It's hard. It's hard. I don't know that it's how is it? There's some killing. There's some grotesque. There's lots of killing. It's very close. I wouldn't say there's lots of killing. I guess there's a shooting at the end of this movie. Okay. It's perpetrated by Miss Piggy's knockoff zero calorie Walmart version.
You know, that's true. That's true. There's some knife killings. The crocodile kills himself and someone on the knife rounds you. Show. Yeah. So that's true. Yeah. Okay. There's a lot of grotesque stuff happening. There's a there's a shitty thing flying. That's great. Oh God. Yeah. There's a there's a bunny with aides. Yeah. There's lots of stuff. There's some very obscene things. I guess I'll start by saying that it was okay. It was a little all over the place.
I wouldn't I wouldn't say that it was not, sorry, not comprehendable. It just their cuts were really awkward and it went from one story to the other very quickly and you had to just sort of keep in your head of what was going on everywhere. If you look at your phone for 10 seconds, you're immediately lost again. So. But it was, you know, it's definitely different. I don't know that I would watch it again. Oh, this is not going to be at least my 10th time saying this movie.
It explains a lot about you, Rob. Rob, you have to. Peter Jackson won Academy Awards. Not for this. It's got a cool following. That's for sure. Yeah. You have this gleam in your eye. It's so good. It's like you lot of torturing us. You just like you're trying to see how far you can push it. You love this. You like our reactions the next day. This is a tame compared to some of our choices. I hear tell there's going to be a fabled Rob's rundown today. Yeah, I got like three.
I got like two and a half. Yeah. I'm on his back. I love the Rob's rundown. All right. This is very tame compared to like poultry eyes. That's for sure. And like anthropophagus. Yeah. Well, it's a whole different movie than anthropophagus. I would put it in the similar, more adjacent category to poultry guys, but anthropophagus is good. Horror drama with some baby eating in such an area. Feed us eating. Is that what happened?
Yeah. And anthropophagus was gross, but it was like a style of horror film we're familiar with that, you know, the foreign grain house kind of movie. This was this a horror movie? No, not at all. I mean, it's it's close. Why? Why are we talking about it? Is there a more like a musical comedy slash like? Yeah, that's the black comedy. Yeah. I mean, again, like I think it's more horrific than black comedy. It's a horrific that I had to sit through it. That's the horror film.
It's not even that bad. It's movies. We didn't cover really scary movies like the exorcist and the notebook. OK, we don't have a good episode. We don't do musical comics. You guys ever watched like sing, sing or sing too? You know, those ones. Yeah. This movie kind of reminded me of sing, but in a different type of way, not comparing it at all. Like, you know, the whole putting on the show thing, there's a director. They have a certain amount of time to get the show together.
But then there was all these side things happening that like took my attention away from it. Trug, Sins. Yeah. The crocodile shooting up in the bathroom, the bunny that got a STD, Heidi that was going off. But then didn't tangent. Yeah, but didn't it was like, buddy, got an STD called lead. Yeah. Heidi going off on her tangent seat in tons of cakes. Well, let's let's see if I'm OK. I'm a Danny. I'm going to I'm going to disappoint you all. If you think I'm going to be able to synopsis this.
That's what I'm saying. In a way that's more coherent than what Scottie just said, you're going to be here. Scottie's something that are pretty good. Meet the peoples is about a, I mean, you know this story because it's the Muppets, right? It's a group of puppets who do a variety show and their entertainers. Except unlike the Muppets, which runs on Sunshine and Rainbows, this runs on heroin and sex. And in this, I mean, I don't even know where his fun is. Lots of Muppets sex.
Lots of Muppets sex. There's there's blanch the walrus. He's like the producer of the show. And he's sleeping with Heidi the hippo who is sort of like Miss Piggy. She's like the star of the show. But he's having an affair with Samantha the cat. Obviously, it's just it's chaos. There's there's a frog. It was like a Vietnam vet winward. He also is like addicted to heroin. He's not a frog. OK. He's a frog. Sorry. Oh, I can. I couldn't tell what he was. Yeah. He's some kind of amphibian.
And then you have Harry the bunny. He's the one who's he's suffering from a mysterious venereal disease. Trevor the rat is directing pornography. BDS and nasal pornography. The only likeable characters are Robert the Hedgehog. He's new and he's trying to impress Lucille. She's a poodle, I think. And he's got the hots for her. But tensions boil over eventually. Heidi gets so enraged over bletch cheating on her. And the way he yanks her chain that she just goes off with a machine gun.
She starts killing everybody. After Harry the bunny finds out he's not going to die. He eats a bullet hence the joke earlier if that helps at all. She just fucking wastes almost everybody. There's some fun title cards at the end that tell us who Robert and Lucille went on to have kids and so forth. And I'll add but Heidi went to appreciate. I like these are the movie title cards. Let's let that actually wraps it up pretty cool. I like it. It's like that. It's nice.
And I also thought the best part of this movie was when it ended. And then Heidi goes on to work at a supermarket. And that's I don't know. I don't know guys. I watched this movie. We skipped over first impressions. I watched this late at night and it was a mistake because I no longer know what was movie and what was the delirium brought on by sleep deprivation. Yeah. I was in the same boat. I was a pathway falling asleep for a little portion of it.
I watched it before I went to Danny's house last night. I like was driving Danny's like my mind was like not driving. I was like where was my mind was floating around and I was driving. It's a lot like doing drugs. I wouldn't I would think if I did them. I must give it credit though. It looked like it was definitely very I guess artsy. And it looked like it was a lot of work was put into all the puppeteering and there was a lot of work putting in the characters and making the costumes.
And so I give it credit for that. And the music wasn't too bad. The music in it was pretty good. Oh, that song is going to be stuck in my head till the day I die now. Yeah. Meet the feebles. Meet the feeble. And then Heidi's like solo song and stuff. So the music wasn't bad either. I know you can try and give us some numbers. I don't know how accurate. Oh, yeah. Let's see. Do I have some numbers here? OK. Yeah. Let's see. So release date December 8, 1989 in New Zealand.
US release date was September 1, 1995. Budget was 750,000. It says box office. Yeah, 750,000. It says box office only here for New Zealand though for 80,000. But I'm assuming that was. I don't, I'm assuming it never went to box office. Anyone else except for two towns in New Zealand. So I bet you over time it's gained a lot of its money back from being a classic and US-based people buying it and watching it. And it wasn't not rated. So yeah, 97 minute runtime. Yeah. Peter Jackson, baby.
I had to go to a video rental store, like in downtown middle, like in the bad part of town in Tallahassee to find this movie, because we had heard rumors about it. Oh, God. I mean, like it was actually the day. Oh, yeah. It was a trip. We walked in and like, there's a movie about puppets. And like me, yeah, I got it. Here. Yeah. Come on. What you're saying. I know you're saying. Come back behind this beaded curtain. And I will, I will show you. Oh, you have the beaded curtain.
Yeah. It was back there, even. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Next to the Yank Bank. Which I mean, this movie could be considered. I mean, this movie probably inspired most of the furries that we have today. Next to the anal, what's the name of the porn movie that the rat was talking about? We should name it anal anxiety or something. Yeah. For what it was. Yeah. He had his own collection of the porn or films that he was randomly filming in the basement of the theater. Well, I think it's time for a...
Let's run down. Let's run down. Oh. Yeah. He was the rat. He was the rat. It's been so long. It's been so long. Love it. This is a good one for waiting with Baiters Breath. Okay. Let's see here. Okay. So we have these pages. Yes. Well, I had to, I had to like condense it down a little bit and play with it some, but.
Okay. So we have one heroin addicted lizard, one song about it's hot to me, two Vietnam flashbacks, three puppet nipples, multiple inner species puppet orgies, one case of bunnypox, one mass shooting, one BDSM sex tape, one panty sniffing ardvark, one murdered whale. We have one paternity suit, we have 17 dead puppets, one chain smoking rap, one should eating fly, and I give it four out of five stars. Peter Jackson's greatest movie of all time. Greatest movie of all time. Yeah. Easily. Easily.
Easily. I've been over dead alive, brain dead, whatever. Oh, I mean, of course, the rings, trilogy. I can't watch the Lord of the Rings stuff. Oh, Lordy. Two boring. Better than Lord of the Rings. Okay. And I hate Orlando Bloom. So. It is movie with shorter. Yeah, but do you like the go more to say? Only only because of the Eastern from off you know, only because of Eastern promises. Yeah. Such a good movie. And that's why we switched gears and talk about Eastern promises. Can we do that?
Oh, good. And that's why your baby died. Love is little. Yeah, sorry, you get to watch somebody. I like. I like a lot of wood too. A lot of wood. Yeah. Yeah. Not so much. What's that one where he's in that horror movie that he's made a maniac that he's crazy maniac. Yeah, he did the maniac. Yeah, that was good. Then he was in the good sun with McCulley Culkin or McCulley Culkin was like a 10 year old serial killer. Yeah, yeah, that's a good movie too. Oh, see. But no, I mean, this movie.
This movie is incredible. And in every facet, physical effects, you know, check. Good story. Check. You know, it blood boob's. It's got everything. The puppet nipples were disturbing. Yeah, nippy. You weren't really expecting them. But they're there. And there's just something about putting nipples on the puppet. Like that. Obviously, like Peter Jackson wants like we have to have this. Peter Jackson probably made those himself. And I all take care of the nipples.
And I probably assume this is exactly what happens behind the scenes at Sesame Street. Like this has to be, you know, in the 70s, just all the coke and drugs and weird puppets. Yeah. Well, let's get into it. All the borax they're sniffing. Whatever the heck that stuff was that made him melt into the ground. Anyway, yeah, let's talk about Peter Jackson. Let's start with Peter Jackson. I think everyone knows who he is. But, you know, obviously, very prolific filmmaker in Hollywood.
He's most well known for his Academy Award when he worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He became the first person in history to direct three major feature films simultaneously when he completed all three Lord of the Rings films back to back to back. Oh, Jackson was born on Halloween in 1961 in Wellington, New Zealand. He developed a love of films as a child and was inspired by the adventures he would have in and around his home, which he called an adventure playground.
Wow. Yeah. So Jackson would make short films with friends. He attempted to remake King Kong using stop-motion models at the age of nine. And then early in his career, he specialized in slapstick horror companies. Of course, we talked about briefly mentioned brain dead slash dead alive. That's very, you can see a lot of that word there. Love that hair. Yeah. So good. But yeah, in 1995, he was nominated for his first Oscar for best screenplay for Heavenly Creatures. Which I've never seen.
I don't think I've ever seen that. No, follow that nomination up with several more, including best adapted screenplay for the fellowship of the rings, the two towers and the return of the King. He was also nominated for best director for all three of those. And then one best director and best adapted screenplay for the third one, return of the King, which also won best picture that year. So yeah, he really made it after this.
Yes. In 2009, he received another nomination when a district nine was nominated for best most in picture, which I love. District nine is so good. So I wrote so co-oply. Yeah, I love. I have to rewatch it. I hate that movie. Really? I have a seat of forever. Pressing. It was so fucking depressing. It's a little sad. It's a little sad. I need to rewatch it too. It's been years. I'm just, I keep talking about making a sequel to it. Now they just need to leave it alone. I heard there.
I even recently saw they were talking about a sequel. I just love Charlottes co-oply so much. And he does so good in it. He's awesome. Everything. It's when he decides to act, he's fantastic in everything. Uh, he's, he's good in everything. I mean, not a bad movie, just like, uh, yeah. What's his name? Tom Ackins? No. Tom Hardy. Tom Hardy. I'm already. Uh, I think Tom Hardy has a new movie coming out about motorcycle. Yeah, he does. It's out now.
It's already out. Awesome. So Peter Jackson also directed King Kong remake with name he wants in Jack Black, Adrian Brody. Oh, he did. I like that one. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, he's been in the King Kong movies. He then directed all three movies in the Hobbit trilogy. Um, in 2022, yeah, he won an Emmy for outstanding director for a documentary slash nonfiction program for his work on the Beatles. Get that.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's, he's the fourth highest grossing film director of all time with his movie making over six and a half billion worldwide. Uh, he was knighted as a knight's companion of the order of the governor of New Zealand. And he credits meet the peoples for all this recognition here. Yeah. Of course, yes. We should make it one of these so we can follow his tracks. Yeah. So how did this get made? How is the man responsible?
How is the husband to for Lord of the Rings also responsible for this? That's what we ask ourselves. Who thought of this? Rob. He said so in the other direction. How did the man have Lord of the Rings? That's a great question, actually. Yeah. Like, can you imagine going in with this on your real and being like, now give me enough money to make three back to back block posters? Yeah. It's like showing them this and like dead alive or brain dead.
Whatever. Yeah. Yeah. So while the idea for this started out as a short film idea, they made the short called bad tastes and it screened at can. And then the idea was to move on to a project called brain dead, which we've talked about. It's dead alive in the US. I believe brain dead in New Zealand and some other countries. Yes. Yeah. But the money fell out and the project collapsed and they needed something to make.
So they went back to the short film idea called Meet the Feebles, which they felt was a strong short and they expanded it into a feature film. So yeah, the movie is just an extension of childhood fantasy. It's a movie to celebrate childhood whimsy, but with adult elements, of course. I mean, I think it nails it. Yeah. And most certainly he does accomplish that. He doesn't need. Yeah. It says he doesn't like making shocking or violent films, although brain dead. I don't know.
Oh, I think bad taste was definitely shocking and violent. And I haven't watched that taste. I don't remember. I was saying clips of it. Yeah. But no. I mean, I think it's a lot of it. Well, he likes making your giant. I remember I don't cover. I've seen the puppet of the cover. But he likes making humorous films sometimes humorous savage as seen in the film. One of Jackson's favorite quotes come from quotes comes from Alfred Hitchcock who says that he doesn't make films that are slices of life.
He makes films that are slicing of cake. Oh, oh. He likes, he likes, I don't know what that means. Nobody does. No. No. Jackson sort of describes the film as a kind of Roger Rabbit meets Brazil. According to Jackson, I decided from the outskirts of the islanders. I don't know. I'm going to go to Brazil. He was probably on drugs when he made that quote. I don't know. According to Jackson, quote, I decided from the outset to make exactly the sort of puppet film that I would enjoy.
It was a challenge to make myself laugh. And since I still chuckle whenever I see meat the females, I guess I succeeded. No, he definitely did. I get a kick out of meat the people. I chuckle the few times. That's for sure. But the Vietnam flashback is one of the greatest things. And that's pretty good. Actually, that might have been one of the best parts of the film. Yeah. Yeah. I can't see you bastards. And they made like the Vietnam, whatever gophers or whatever they were.
Yeah, I'm not sure what they were. They were. Yeah, they were great. The Charlie gophers. Yeah. Yeah. Jackson actually, he didn't grow up wanting to be a director. He wanted to be in special effects. And that's why he's so hands on during production, especially on this. I mean, he was like working with camera. He just had to have all this control over everything and how it looked. So he likes to get his hands dirty and get in there. This does have a few writers on it though.
He wasn't the only writer. I think there's like four writers on this that he directed. So I mean, you would need that many. Yeah. It's a very complex plot. There are lots of moving parts. There are lots of moving parts. Especially the first scene where Samantha and Bletcher doing it. I wonder who wrote that part in that. I was just talking to cookies. I think that was Peter Jackson for sure.
For sure. Yeah. Absolutely. And New Zealand just seems like a really fun place with all the old cars from Roger Rabbit in it. Yeah. Yeah. See. You know, those cars that like extended cab on that on that black. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm wondering maybe we'll get to hear more in a minute. I'm wondering if those look like people in costume was playing golf. I don't think those were puppets. Oh, no, they definitely were.
They were definitely like I think I think the hippo was definitely like a full person in costume. Same with the with the wall. Yeah. Well, surprise, surprise. The New Zealand Film Commission did not want to give Jackson his requested budget of 750,000. What? NZD. Oh, after some negotiating, he eventually was able to get 700,000 New Zealand dollars for the movie. But the commission did not have a lot of faith in his ability to pull it off.
I just would think their face their lack of faith would be in the concept of the film, not his ability to pull it off. Yeah. I love how we're like, yeah, because he pulled it off. He did exactly. He accomplished it. No question. Uh, whether it was worth accomplishing, that's what will keep me up at night. And I love how they were like, we are, we are not going to give you 300 and a quarter million New Zealand monopoly dollars to make your puppet porn movie. We'll give you 700,000 though.
Yeah. Wow. You drive a real hard bargain New Zealand. I'll take it. Yeah. I don't get you something. We're going to have to cut the subplot about the the crack addict Labrador puppet who is also selling secrets to the Russians. We'll cut that plot out. We'll save the 50k and we'll make the movie. Yeah. We could cut that one out. That's what I mean. It's a lot of money. Yeah. It's like, it's like $3,200. You asked dollars. Exactly. I wonder what the conversion is. Yeah. All the fans out there.
Somebody get us a conversion of 750. Back at night. 2009 New Zealand dollars. It was. It's right. A just. Scottie's right. I just. Yeah. Well, most of the sets were built in this. I mean, we're, we're off, but not. Oh, you're looking at that. That's worth about half of the US dollar. 40 years ago, I think you're probably was. Much different. Little bit. Yeah. Maybe the same even. Well, they did most, they built most of these sets and filmed in sort of this derelict railway shed in. In like it.
I've just part of their hometown. So they just took that over and built in it. And then they built it. And then they built it. The production had a tight budget for what they were doing. And they would just had obstacle after obstacle. Yeah, one of the most difficult problems. Jackson faced was just hiding the puppeteers, hiding the wires from being seen. I'm working out issues like that. It was super time consuming and just ate up all this valuable time on set. And they did a good job.
I mean, I didn't really notice any. Yeah, I didn't notice the wire. I was wondering how they accomplished some of the shots without seeing. And if they had done any digital wire removal or anything like that, obviously not digital at the time, it would have been by hand on the film. And like some of the most of the like Heidi and like the like blatch and stuff for people in the costumes. But the ones that are on wire were maybe like the little worm.
And obviously Robert the hedgehog and the couple's some I say about half run wire and half work. Maybe we're real people in costumes. I guess the warehouse they shot and was infested with fleas. Please kept getting into the puppets. That's awesome. Yeah. And Jackson recalls seeing the puppets and puppeteers flinch and move abruptly and it's because fleas were jumping all over them. So that was. That would not be fun. I mean, I couldn't imagine working on a set. That would be more fun than this.
It was probably a who I mean, they would go to work. Oh, I'm sure every day like, oh, here we go again. Looking blast. And I'm sure they were written lines off the puppets and stuff. Oh, yeah. Off the puppets nipples. Right. Yeah, we. Someone you want one of those puppets. You know they do. Oh, guaranteed. I mean, I mean, honestly, there's all I'm telling you this is what started the furry thing. Somebody watched this. He was just like just absolutely just rock hard from beginning to.
Oh, guaranteed. There's people out there that were just. I were you not ready. Fest. Well, you know, they saw that go. Was it was that a goat or was that a cow with like the others that were peeing? That was a cow. That was a cow. I mean, okay, Daisy that Daisy cow was down in the basement. And you know, one of the actors was off camera just went down there and railed it just. Dennis does. Daisy. That's right. No, I don't want to. He's all the puppets were sticky and covered and.
Good. Yeah. The most disturbing character was that like that elephant. What was that that like was like just a snuff a lot of guess thing. I mean, I don't know what he talks. Yeah, the elephant was funny. The way the elephant to. Yeah, I'm telling you it's not mine. The kids not mine. But but but when the art of arcs like watching through the through the keyhole of like the spring. Was that true or was that was nose? I don't. I don't know. I thought those nose come.
Then he's in the, then he's in the porno and he's coming out his nose. That's right. I forgot all about that. But he needed panties to get a hard on. Yeah, hard hard hard on. Yeah, nasal porn. Yeah. Oh, well Cameron Chitok along with his partner. Tanya Roger designed and built 90 puppets for the film. Interestingly, Chitok would later go on to serve as producer on veggie tails. That makes sense. Yeah, that tracks. Yeah, I got that tracks while she tails.
Yeah, but yeah, somebody looked at that resume. It was like absolutely. You are hired. I like what you did with the with the inchecolating art. I think this is going to really line up well with our core audience. Well, you said it was. Yeah, there's a lot of pressure on them to get the puppets done on time with very little money and it was very challenging. Very little money. They got three quarters of a million dollars. I know that's what I'm saying. That's insane. I guess it's still.
Yeah, I feel to do it. Pull this off of that. I guess it took six people to drive the whale puppet. That was a puppet here's nightmare. That was one of the toughest. The puppets were made of plastic foam and glue. This meant that parts of the puppets had to constantly be replaced. For example, Heidi the hippos hands were replaced many times because she had to eat cake or carry a large machine gun. They kept falling off.
You know, heads are blown off and puppets are shot and those parts need to be replaced on a regular basis. So Cheat Ock spent just a lot of time repairing and rebuilding puppets while on the set as well. And all the holes that people put in them. If you don't quit. If you don't quit. Every puppets. People kept pulling off. Yeah, yeah. Why are there holes in all the crutches of all these puppets? God damn it. Well, the sets were changed and rebuilt daily.
Once they were finished with one set, they would scrap it, use the parts to build another set. So I guess you had to be sure you were done with it. It's ingenuity right there. Yeah, given the way the movie flows, I have no doubt that they struck a few sets early. And they were like, oh, I can't get that pickup shot. Oh, well. Yeah. Let's just make something up and create something new.
Yeah. Richard Taylor, the model maker, had to create a model car, created the model car a meter long in order to make that scene where it drives into the whale's mouth. That was cool. Oh, I've got to go home. I've got amber griss all over me. All the light. All the light. Keep going. Yes, boss. Yeah, boss. Where to now, boss? Where'd you get, boss? Well, Taylor would go on to work with Jackson on the Lord of the Rings trilogy creating all of the props.
Costumes, prosthetics, miniatures and weaponry for it. Yeah. Yeah. He won, he's won five Academy Awards, including Best Visual Effects for King Kong in 2005. Best costume design, best makeup, best visual effects and best make and best makeup for all of the Lord of the Rings films. Damn. Yeah. Other films he's worked on are Chronicles of Narnia, amazing Spider-Man 2, Krampus, Power Rangers, Thor, Ragnarok. Damn. So meet the people set Richard Taylor up to, man. Look at this.
I guess we just need to do a gross puppet movie. That's been done. We can never talk this, you know. The puppets were so disgusting. They really were like, there's, there's, there's like pus dripping out of them in the, in the, the crusty eyes, the goopy eyes. The lizard, the lizard and the, and the rabbit. Oh, God. Oh, the rabbit puking and then like the, the like, whatever the worth on his face. Yeah. We all that brown goo and the bunny pops. Our Bella's face is looking good.
It was disgusting. Oh, sorry, Harry. I missed diagnosed you. I'll take two aspirin and calming in the morning. Yeah. Yeah. Then he gets said blown off by the scene with the M60 was just. Yeah. Oh, so cool. That really wrapped it up. Good. Oh, it is. So we got a mask. Like, you're just like thousands of rounds of blank, like 30 caliber ammunition. They're here. I don't wear crazy. It's so good. Steve Ingram, who did the special effects? Just more the same.
I went on to do two towers, the Hobbit films, even worked on live action, move on. And most recently, Avatar way of the water. Damn. I mean, it just goes to show that like most of these people that are in to like the fantasy movies and comic books and star wars and stuff like that are all desperate perverts. Yeah. I mean, look at these guys. These guys have swept the Academy Awards for all these in cells. It's incredible. Peter Jackson took everyone with him and he kept, he kept his crew.
They all, they all still have a puppet in the closet. Oh, I get you. Both the holes. They keep re-sowing them and making the holes. They recorded all the dialogue before shooting. So that's an interesting tidbit. Then they just did the puppeting to the dialogue. Yeah. Peter Jackson. So they had 80 yard the entire movie. Yeah, before shooting it in Peter Jackson basically said that many had to direct it twice. You know, once for all the voice acting and once for all the puppeteering.
So you had to match up the voices to like a recorded voice or something when you're doing it. Yeah. Or yeah, that's, that'd be tough. It had to have been. Well, I mean, the movie has a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.6 out of 10 on IMDB, which is a lot higher than most of the movies that we review on this. 25,000. Yeah, tell me this guy. I think it falls into that category though, where once a movie is a certain age, it just automatically has good ratings on everything. I don't know.
We've talked about this before. This is a beloved classic. But have you noticed that we've, there are movies like that. Like, I mean, you know, I mean, yeah, I guess like across the board, like Friday the 13th and stuff like that. Like every single one like that. Yeah. But like this movie's not really, I would say supernestos. It's pretty cult. But I mean, look up right now. I'm not, I haven't looked it up. So I don't know. But I bet look up Jason goes to hell right now.
It's probably got like nine out of 10 and like at 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. You know what I hate that movie so much. Let's see. Just because it's part of that franchise and it's like older, you know. Let's see. Oh, no, it's got well, it's it's four out of 10 on IMDB. But I really want to know what you said. It's a thousand votes. Yes. It's a 2.9 on Google. Oh, wow. I don't see Rotten Tomatoes 16%. 16%. Okay. So never mind. I take that. Well, no, I mean, but there definitely are some.
I mean, there are some movies. You get to go to the 80s. Go to the 80s. This is 93. Now you're right. Like, look up. Extras is two. I think that was bad. I think that was bad. Oh, see. You can rent it for $3 on YouTube. 3.8 on IMDB 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Oh, all right. So maybe I. No, but I mean, they're definitely are some that are just like. You know, I mean, there are some movies that are clearly like art house films like Dr. Strange loved and stuff like that that you've got.
Yeah, gosh, over and they're basically unwatchable. Yeah. I just changed love in good movie. I haven't watched it. That's not okay. But I mean, again, it's. I'm more app to trust Carmelo's opinions at this point in time than than Rob's on movies. I have never been wrong. I'm actually interested. I'm actually interested in this because we're talking about it. Well, see, like, yeah, like Dr. Sleep has 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. So that's that's right.
Well, as we mentioned, it was released in 1989 in New Zealand. Didn't receive an North America release till over a decade later when it got limited theatrical in. It says limited theatrical in 2002. So I don't know if I hit. Paltry guy. Paltry guy is six out of 10 with a 64% Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah, that's. Oh my god. Someone. One of you very much. I don't even think they'll let me review on Rotten Tomatoes. How many times did you vote on that, Rob? What's. I see here. How do you.
To over 2500 ratings. Oh, man. Oh, in the tomato meter. So the act. So 25 reviews on the tomato meter for 64% and 2500 reviews. Over 2500 reviews for audience. People are probably just like, what the hell. Well, the only movie like that I've ever seen. I got to give something good. Well, meet the feebles was considered a financial flop as it only earned 80,000 in New Zealand.
But when Jackson was accepting his Academy Award for the return of the king, he joked that meet the feebles had been long overlooked by the Academy. It has. Most certainly has one of the greatest things to come out of New Zealand. He also Jackson also made a brief cameo in the series Muppets Mayhem where he mentions the feebles and remarks that. To our in witness protection, the rest are in prison. Of course, but you might notice that actually contradicts the any of the movie.
But you had the film did receive recognition at film festivals, including the New Zealand film awards where it was nominated for best film best screenplay. Female performance for Danny Mulheron and Mark Hadlow and supporting role for a couple others and editing and score. I have a list here of who played all the puppets. I do see that there's multiple people did multiple.
Yeah, but that's that's the interesting part is that it's like one, two, three, four, five people played all whatever 90 of these puppets. So like daughter, Ackerson played Lucille the dogs method a cat door through the sheep female rabbit number one. Yeah. So there's yeah, that's a lot of a lot of voices. I don't see Peter Jackson's name. I figured he would be a puppet. You know, I just figured just feared he was definitely the one that was banging the cow. Yeah, sure. In spirit. In spirit.
Those was bletched the walrus Arthur the worm, the baker, the newspaper, the announcer, Sid the elephant. God, he did all those. Yeah. The fly was the fly was the worst. I'll do that fly whatever the fly was talking. I'm like, God, kill that fucking fly already. Let's just had unfair access to everyone for pressing queries. I guess that's what you get if you're flying kick in and everywhere.
Yeah, we all know that they got the mood, the, the I did to make happy Gilmore from this movie because the war hog does that like running shot, you know, yeah, he does. Oh, yeah. And Adam says, oh, I wanted to make a movie where where I do that. See, yeah, this is Adam's. I actually think about it. I did think about that when he was lining up behind the ball. I'm like, oh, he's going to do a happy Gilmore swing. Was that a war hog or was that a walrus or was that a, I guess a war hog.
Yeah, it was a war hog. I think it's definitely a war hog. It was the one from Ninja Turtles is bebop or rock steady. Oh, I don't know. I think it's rock steady. I think. Yeah, right. Yeah. Oh, so maybe it is bebop then. Yeah. I think rock steady is the right. Oh, the right. You're right. You're right. You're right. bebops the pig. Rock steady is the right. Oh, that. Okay. Okay. That makes sense. Well, that's all I need to meet the feebles.
Yeah. I mean, what else could be said about it? I think we've given a comprehensive coverage. Any favorite scenes from anyone? You know, I mean, I mentioned that scene. The, the, the random golf scene. The, the knife throwing heroin. Yes. Lizard is absolutely every time he's on camera. He steals every single. The shaking of that. That was great. Yeah. That was pretty good. He finally got his fix. Finally got his. I thought he overdosed when he got his fix. But no, he came.
No, they were dragging him back out. He came back. So good. I didn't see it's a fun time. Okay. It's a fun time. It is. I'm glad it was free on YouTube with ads. Yeah, with, with 4k. Yeah. Yeah. Really good quality. I will say that the really good quality actually took away from me remembering watching it on like a grainy VHS tape. Yeah. So it kind of took me a little bit of it. I'll be, you know, and not being.
I mean, it was still square square aspect, you know, it was. I mean, but like, you know, when you're watching it on a VHS type VHS tape, which is better. Yeah. For these kind of awful terrible movies. Yeah. So, so, so anyone listening to what's the watch this movie? The only place we thought it was on YouTube. But yeah, it's the 4k version. I think it's unless you own it at the moment, that might be the only, the only place you can find.
I think so. It's not on Amazon. It's not anywhere. Yeah. They're trying to silence this film. Yeah. They're trying to. So much like your silence me because I don't know if you've all heard or not. But for speaking truth to power last week, I got banned from YouTube on. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, well, well, well, you didn't get banned. I didn't we just get a strike. Yeah. I'm being suppressed is the point my future. I'm in frame.
And I just want everyone to know that as your, your ultimate opponent of the woke mob as the most conservative member of this, this group. I will not let the walks know flakes stop me from speaking. Hell no. Hell no. I know I know I've come under a lot of criticism since I've joined the show for making the show too conservative. And all I have to say that is you can forget it snowflakes. I woke. We will say what is there?
I can't even repeat what he said because then this episode will get banned because that ridiculous. That was good too. Well, get suppressed. If you guys just it's they took it off of YouTube for medical misinformation. So listen to last week's episode final destination at like three three to four minutes and three 10 three 15 it was. It was pretty. Yeah, it was pretty. It was pretty. It was pretty. Yeah, it was a great. A great buddy job. Yeah, that's right. I don't remember.
What do you think was before I thought you've got to give it to me when we were at the beginning talking to us yet. As cool as you can remember, I think. Sorry, DEA is over stars, just I know, they are despite that you can people all give it an effort talking to us. I know who this is and they all say I'm sorry. All I have to say is the United States government was behind 9.11 and thanks for listening to the episode today and I hope you enjoyed the Feebles.
If you want to make a donation to Trump's presidential campaign, please do under Carmelo Chimera. And furthermore, if you want to make a donation to the Keep Cromwell out of jail fund, I have a feeling I'm going to need it soon. I'm going to say for any of Carmelo's fervorant supporters, you know, that you know, want to send him fan mail or anything for $10, I will release his cell phone number in address. It's a new Patreon tier. It's a new Patreon tier.
I want to say to all the folks at YouTube and all the folks out there, if you are dumb enough to take a joke like I just made seriously, then you're too dumb for me to waste my time even talking to you about why it's a joke. So just know I think very little of you, if you are offended by anything I said, and I could possibly condescend to you more than I am trying to right now. Personally, we like to joke around and have a good time here guys. So you don't need to be like this.
Yeah, if you can't tell what show you are talking to. We're on episode like 175. Like if you haven't figured out by now, then I don't have any room for you in my life. And I'm sorry for the awkward. All right, well, that wraps up Meet the Feebles. Meet the Feebles. Let's move on to what did you watch? Yeah, see this was an old episode. We got the Rob's run down. We got the singing and going. I love it. I love it. All right. What did you watch? Daddy. Me? Oh gosh. Oh, put it in.
I watched, I watched Exuma. And Shutter, it's a Korean horror film. And some titles I was recommended to me. It was pretty good. It was interesting. It was a different story that I've ever seen before. Lots of people have been kind of raving about it saying that they liked it. Yeah, it's good. It's a different type of story. So check it out. It was pretty good. I also was recommended. I watched Powden footage movie called Frog Man. Wasn't very good. No, just oh, it wasn't very good.
Someone was like, you got to see Frog Man. It was really good. And then I watched it. It was sort of a total waste of time. But so I watched that. And it's any other movie I'll think about it. But I also watched the first couple episodes of The Rings of Power, speaking of Lord of the Rings. Oh, the prequel series on Amazon. Peter Jackson, anything to do with that? I don't think so. No, I can't believe so. So far so good. Yeah, first couple episodes. Pretty good. So check it out. How about Rob?
Would you watch? Um, I watched a stop motion. I did too. I watched stop motion. And then I watched. Oh, I tried to watch that new suitable flash, which was just, you mentioned that. All phone. So what did you think of stop motion? Because I thought it was good. I thought it was really cool. Um, I mean, like, the guy does a lot of like stop motion shorts. So it's not, okay, you know, it's not like it's a very long short story.
But I thought it was cool because I think just the whole stop motion stuff is really, really it could be so gross. What did you think of it? What is stop motion? I really did not like that movie. I mean, I think it's to movie. Okay. Yeah, I did not do anything for me. I guess the stop motion stuff looked cool. I like the premise of it. Yeah, and all the stuff outside of the stop motion that was a little bit.
I would have if that movie were like 50% more stop motion, I would have liked it a lot better. I just, it just didn't, I'm just into anything for me. Yeah. I tried. It was like, for me, I was like, yeah, that's all right. Yeah. Oh, I watched it's on the shutter. I watched this movie called me and Savannah watched it. Like it's like, oh, it's perfect like rainy Saturday afternoon. Oh, I watched it too. Loop track. Yeah. Isn't that movie awesome? Like, I'm not going to give anything away.
But the last 30 minutes of that movie when the twist happens is so much fun. I thought it was good. It kept you guessing and then it turned out to be this pretty fun thing at the end. Yeah, because you're, you're never going to guess what it is. You're never going to guess what, what this is. Yeah. I'm happy that they went that direction because it's so unguessable. And the whole time I'm watching it, I'm like, it's really, really good. But I figured, I'm not going to give away what it is.
But you know, it leads you up to where it could be like a fight club scenario. Ooh. Like, is this guy something his head? Yeah. So, and most movies do that. It's like such a cop out such an easy way out to be like, was it a dream? Was it not this movie spins it so good? I loved this movie. I'm sure I'm sure I've turned out. And I've been watching loop track. Yeah, loop track. Okay. It's about. It's New Zealand. It's New Zealand, Australia. And it's a, I think it's called loop track.
It's about hikers on a, like a loop, the big, all hiking loop where you backpack to cabins and stuff. And this guy is all paranoid. Think something's following them. Yeah. So freaking good. And then I've been watching them. I've been watching Lost. Oh, yeah. I'm like, you never watch Lost back in the night. No, no, I watched it. And then I'm like, my 18 episodes into season one. Goody. I don't know why I remember maybe it's because when it ended, I don't need any spoilers. I can't do it.
But I know that like midway through it or toward the ending, I never watch it because everybody was complaining about how it's how it's so twisted or you know, it doesn't make any sense. But as I'm watching at least now in season one, it's just really good. Like I don't understand all the people that we're acting like it's like unwatchable or, or, you know, confusing. It's just been really good. I love the first few seasons. So let's just put it at that.
Yeah, I thought it kept me really entertained back in the day when I watched it. Oh, yeah. All three watched it good. Yeah. I didn't I didn't watch any horror unfortunately. I just watched Inside Out 2 in theaters with my kids, which was pretty good. I know. A couple weeks ago. It was good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was good. I like the almost teary eye at that very end there. But and then finishing up the succession of the TV series with Brian Cox. Nice. I didn't actually watch that.
It's good. I'm not seeing it. It's good. It's not horror either, but it's more like I've been watching a lot. I've been watching it's not horror as well, but I just sort of leave that out. Yeah. Alone alone is fantastic. In case I ever need to survive in the wilderness, you know, I just yeah, think of some tips. That's true. Melo. You watch anything, Melo? I've been watching Kirby or enthusiasm and I've been watching The Boys, which is fantastic.
And I haven't been watching as much because I've been playing a lot of Spider-Man 2. Ooh. Nice. Oh, I watched Spider-Man universe the animated one. That was really good. Oh, the Spider-Verse. Yeah, it was great. Into the Spider-Verse. Yeah. Me and Asa watched that, which probably was appropriate for him, but I watched that with him. That was really good. Nice. Anyways. Alright, guys. Well, I think that wraps us up. We are doing feast next. I don't even know if I told Rob and everybody.
But Aaron Garcia's, I don't want to watch Feast. Aaron Garcia has been just asking for it nonstop. So we might as well just just do it. Just the first video. I want you to know Aaron, even though Rob doesn't care about watching your movie, I said, I've got, we've got to do Feast for Aaron. I put my foot in the truck. Well, everybody keep saying to do the Feast trilogy. So I do have to watch the trilogy. We'll see about the trilogy where we'll, we'll start with number one.
We haven't done Seagulls in a while. I'm sorry, I interrupt this, Scotty. Oh, no. I said, you might like this one, Rob. You might like Feast. They give it a chance. I don't know, it's from 2005. Yeah, but it's about people trapped inside a bar fending off creatures. So that sounds pretty cool. So we're doing Feast a couple weeks. And yeah, so thanks for joining us. That's good, guys. Yeah, we'll, we'll see you on that one. It's on, I think it's free on, it's on Amazon Prime right now.
Feast is, I believe. Okay, it's on one of the streamers right now. Sweet, so. Go watch it. Join us. This is fun, guys. All right, thanks, guys. We'll catch you next time. Later. Don't you blame the movies? Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative. No! No! No! No! No! No! Oh, yes. There will be blood.
