Was there ever a time where you thought I'm not doing enough? Oh? I mean I always do yeah, always this day. Always. Yeah. I feel like you're your own worst enemy and critic, you know, always be in our own way in that way. Yeah, yes, definitely. What do you think you can do more? Enough of?
Oh? I mean, I'm kind of being thrown back into the world of auditioning. Okay, So you know, I just I feel like it's more of that. It's more just perfecting my craft, getting out there and you know, just being being put in the game. It's different. It's it's it's interesting. I haven't been like kind of auditioning for a long time, so its no, zero, absolutely not. I can be I guessed right,
but not in your situation, definitely not. And I feel like, you know, I feel like you know, Yeah, when you feel like you've gotten to a point where there's no room to grow, you're not gonna yeah, so you always have to kind of stay hungry and humble with that. So I love it. Good Trouble free Form streams on Hulu. Very popular show. Final season. It's very emotional for everyone, very bittersweet.
Yeah, I'm not crying. You're right, but you you know, from the Fosters to Good Trouble, you grew up on television, right, this is what you do. This is who you are, right, this is your identity. Absolutely, it's been it's been a huge blessing to be a part of, you know, this legacy of a show. Ten years that I've been on it, and I've really grown up alongside my character, which has been awesome. And just to get the feedback from all of our fans.
It's the true reason why we have lasted on the air for so long. It's all because of them. I'm so forever grateful to them and for this experience it's been. It's been a beautifuljourney. And you got a shot the direct as well. I sure did. I never got used to that. That was that was a muscle. I never worked. So were you filming scenes and you were directing in the middle of the scene. I was, yes, so you're wearing two hats at once. It was really cool.
Yeah, it was. It was so much fun. I've always been super passionate about the behind the scenes as much as I was being in front of the camera, So to have that opportunity was awesome. It was it like you cut? It was, yes, yes, very much that it was a hold And you're like, are you gonna explore that a little bit more in the future. I would love to. I caught the bug. I truly fell in love with that entire process, and I would love to
do it again. Yeah, Like, what's something about directing that you were you didn't really expect? Oh you know what I should. I did love that. I did love that. No, it was it was really challenging. It was really fun to get out of my comfort zone, you know. But I was actually really surprised at you know, how much I did actually kind of know growing up on that set, I didn't give myself enough
credit for. But I felt so supported the entire way. My whole crew, who I have been working with most of them for like about ten years now. They're all like my brothers and sisters and uncles. You know, they were all rooting me along the whole way and wanted to see me win. So it was a really awesome time. That's amazing. Now you were shining. Boy, people that don't necessarily gatekeep are trying to like never challenge
your direction, right, that's amazing. To have that trust too, was amazing to you know, know that they were very very so I felt really lifted and it kind of that really helped me kind of step into that new role and kind of just own it in a way. You know. I felt really comfortable to do that. So it was really awesome. Yeah, because I'm sure you're going to meet some challenges, right, You're gonna and challenges comes in the form of people sometimes and He's just like, yo,
man, I'm just trying to do my thing. I'm trying to do the best job possible here. You know, pay attention to me right right now? Luckily. I was really surrounded by a lot of love. That's so good. That's great being of love. To see the hand I know, I know that thing sunk, the Titanic. Thank you so talk about it was my goodness. It was a dream come true of a proposal. Yeah, you love this guy. Let's be honest. I'm obsessed with him. I'm obsessed with him. No, it was it was, Oh my gosh,
what a dream. It was back in my hometown in Texas, and he surprised me with all of our friends and family, and it was just it was perfect. I couldn't have dreamed up a better proposal. Did he ask your dad for permission? Well, he asked, yes, he asked my family. My dad passed away, but you know what he is. He he loved Jonathan, so you know he had his approval. But he asked my family for your family, he did, and he knew how important it was that you know, they were they were a part of it.
So that was really special. Yeah, of course, what was that. Jackie has this thing she's waiting to be engaged, Like, no, really, she's been waiting. Hilarious. She uh has a few rules when it comes to me. She doesn't want to be proposed to on a holiday or in a public setting. So was yours on a holiday or explain around your family? Was so funny. I actually I had that rule too because we
had spoken about it. I didn't know it was coming, but yeah, even anniversaries, Like I'm like, I want this to have its own day. Literally, I'm with you on that day. I really set the boundaries of like, Okay, no birthday, no holiday, anniversary, and no sporting of it. Like God also wants to design the ring counter to that? Do I mean it's just people don't really celebrate the engagement day. Yes, no, you're absolutely count you know you're right because then now we're like,
so do we celebrate that day now, like as our anniversary? Yeah no you don't. So you're right. That's my only colendar. Like, no, like to each his own, you know you want to. But I'm with Jackie, like, I think that it deserves its own day. It does. You can't share it with Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day that's coming up right, Absolutely, jump, I would I would love Like that sounds great. Yeah, wants to be on camera. Is there a date for the wedding yet, Oh my goodness, No, we have not come
up with one. I'm just enjoying my fiance era. I'm just getting used to calling him my fiance, you know, so you know, good morning, fiance, Hi, fiance something we are and yes, just get to work at it. He's like, where do you Jim? He was like, good past the equinox. I was like, yo, jail, I run on the street in downtown La, party outside does the prison work out? Which is okay? Right right? I know you're really good at Nicki
Minaj versus what's your favorite Nicki Mina? Oh, my goodness, probably make Love Gucci. Ma okay, I love that one. I mean monsters always like everyone, legendary, legendary. That's like my party trick. Karaoke, Oh all day? How many shots does it take for you to become Nicki Minaj Sauce. We're talking about love Valentine's Days around the corner, right, What's what are you getting your fiance? It's a surprise. I do.
I really love Valentine's daycause we always try to do something fun together, Like I don't know what we're going to do this year, but sometimes we'll do like we did like a a pizza making competition. We've made sushi together. Yeah, I like. I like things like that, just manny time together. I can't wait for pizza competitions are no longer happening. Oh yeah, yes, exactly, I do. I I definitely think I still have a couple more selfish years in me, but God willing them up. Yes,
I like my sleep, take your time. I see you so with good trouble this being the season, uh, the final season and the season finale, Like, what are you like just gonna miss so much about this? Oh my goodness. I mean, like I said, I grew up on this set and seeing the people I work with every day and getting to tell the stories that we get to tell. It's been just such a special thing for me to be a part of and it will always have a place in
my heart. But yeah, I think just seeing everyone every day, and you know, we've been through so much together, their lives, death, pandemics, yeah, strikes everything and absolutely so Yeah to have that, you know, see someone every day and then not at all, So it's kind of sad. It's bittersweet, but just knowing that we left behind a legacy and that people will like I feel like the show, even the Fosters. You know, you can watch it now and find a way to relate to
it. It's so topical and it's so current even to this day. Knowing that you know it's been able to touch lives and it will continue to do so is just so beautiful to me. Has there been a conversation of like, hey, listen, I know we're not going to be seeing each other every day, but maybe once a year we all get together somewhere. Oh. Absolutely, there's no way they're getting rid of me and vice versa. We're family at this point to say that now. But then it's like,
dam it's been three years since I haven't seen it. Oh, I hope not. We're definitely going to make a point. I hope not. If you guys grew up together, like yeah, oh they're sad. You're making me sad. We're never going to see these people. I would just say, the most sweetest thing that a fan has told you about Mariana that who
you know what? I think it would have to be the fact that you know, and one thing that really drew me to Mariana was that she's this latina that is taking on a boy like a man driven career that you know, I feel like a lot of people can they saw her on their screen and they were like, I see myself in you. Yeah, she's a
software engineer. And I've met so many Latinas that have been inspired to do so and get into that world, which I feel like, I'm like, wow, this male dominated world now, like there's a bunch of Latinas like taking it over, Like I'm here for that. So to know that they were a little bit of like inspiration to like get them into the software engineering world is so cool. Your character help guide them. And also, I mean I've met people who have been inspired to adopt because of the Fosters,
Like that's such a beautiful thing. So it's so cool. I feel like, you know, as time passes, I'm just like inspired and there's so many beautiful stories. My wife is in love with Good Trouble right, I can't watch it with her. I guess it's her time. I love it, I get it. I'm like, all right, well I'll be in the room. I guess I'll be in the car. But yeah, she she she told me to tell you that Mariana needs to get back with Evan. Oh. I love it. She's team Eviannaana. They need to get
back together. I'm like, it's a show you got, you got, watching's already written. Yeah right, I'm like, yeah, so if you can make that happen, perfect wife, fiance girlfriend, I love it. Yeah, we've been engaged for a while. You've been engaged since September. Recent engagement. A lot happened for a little over ten years now, Okay, yeah, hey, hey hey listen, you love yours for Mexican. We have we have kids first, exactly, that's how it goes. So
we have two kids now, so now that's a commitment right there. Hey, where am I going to go? We have two kids right here? I love you. Why do we need to get married now? You know, I do need to do it? Is it all up to me, by the way, or is it kind of No? I don't think that. Is it a team thing at this point? I mean maybe you could like just have that conversation, like let's get I don't I hear a woman like a man who texts the initiative and just as on it. You know,
definitely. But I mean, if it's been ten years and I feel like she's like seems she's content. That's a good that's a good question. I mean, I don't think after a decade, after a decade to repropose, you wanted to get a new ring if you maybe last what you say, if you want to do a flash mob, include me in it, flash mob propose? Okay, all right, but I do need a new ring, Yeah, I think so. I think so if you're going to repropose, yeah, don't do it with the old ring. I don't know.
I don't know. Finances upgrade. This is the first time you guys got from proposal. We have kids now, so I'm right back to zero. I mean, I appreciate we're doing a logical decision here follow let for more relationship financials and financial advice when inspired the vlogging era, Oh my goodness, that was all Jonathan. Yeah, you guys are having fun with it.
Oh absolutely. I think it was really stemmed from the fact that, like, we have so much fun together, We're always up to something, and he was like, why don't we just like, I mean, it's not even about like trying to make it anything, like just to document like our memories and to be able to look back on it, you know. So it's kids one day exactly. So it's been really fun. I've been having fun with it for you. That's awesome than you are you guys gonna

It always makes it
such an adventure. But yeah, I just love I love just being with her. We just have so much fun together. Now. Who borrows each other's clothes more often? Oh? Girlfriend, that's a triggering subject. I feel like she she takes longer to get ready. She definitely does. Yeah, she would. She would steal my clothes growing up. And the thing was is like she was very sneaky about it. We went to the same school. We were two years apart. She would wear a different outfit to
school. I'd see her in the hallways shut a layer. It was mine. And she wouldn't just borrow clothes, she would cut it. She would make it her own. Yeah, everyone's like, oh, it's already one thing that takes. Yeah, we moved pasted it now from yeah, we've healed fights started. It was that was all we thought about. Though. You know you're gonna cut the sleeves off my card again. Right? How are you treated on set? Right? I mean as far as like your
dressing room and do you get a golf cart? Do you have your own parking space? You do? Right? I do? Yes, I'm very very grateful for you know, there's nice advocating like everybody else like you belong there absolutely because we deserve to be there, exactly. Yes, absolutely, when you have like Blancos running stuff for you you. For me, it was one time I was like, what the heck? This is different, but you have a white assistant, but sod, I'm gonna speak my truth,
you know what I'm saying. And and for me it was like, oh damn. But it's good that they're treating you. Oh no, absolutely absolutely refect and love and it's so great. Yeah, definitely love being able to you know, be someone that's getting you know, my name out there, and you know, absolutely because there's so many people that I've looked up to who have opened the doors for me. So just you know, I
hope to only do that. And I think with this series and like it being the final season, like from the beginning of like Good Trouble to now, like I'm pretty sure like there was some like nervousness of like, you know Mariana and having her like this whole show will be about, you know, absolute storyline and where she's gonna go. Now, what's the biggest I guess difference now from the very beginning to the very end of you personally and
how you took on Mariana. Oh, that's a great question. My goodness, you know what. I think it's been really, like I said before, I really have grown up alongside her, and there have been moments where I'm like I've really learned from her. And I don't know if at this point like I am her or she's me. It's interesting, like there's a really gray area. But something I think that I will take with myself is
just the way that she is, Like she she gets it. She goes into a room and and you know, people can tell her no, but she will prove them wrong. And she definitely is a believer that like, you know, I deserve to be here and I deserve to take up space, So I think for me, yeah, just becoming comfortable with that sure, just because of the way that she always has been is how I'm different. Like, I'm like, I'm going to take a lot of her qualities
with me later in my life. That's great, yo, you know it's it's fun and it's love and you're working with your friends. Right, But there are challenges obviously, right, just like in anything, right, what are some challenges that you had to overcome or that you met? My goodness, I'm like, it's all been great, It's all been really wonderful. I'm like, I'm just thinking about like I'm like, i mean, like, it takes a lot of time to film an episode, and there's a
lot of waiting, a lot of waiting, long hours. You miss a lot of like right, and I feel like it's it's you can miss out on like you know, I've missed out on people's weddings and you know, important moments and you know it's like you have to kind of think about it, take a step back. You're like, Okay, this is my job, my career. Thankfully, I have really wonderful people around me who are always super understanding. But you know, it is it is hard to miss
out on things, but it's all for a purpose. I love what I do and I'm so thankful for it. Sure, what's your goal? Oh my goodness, do you want an Oscar? I mean that would be from your lips to God's years. That would be amazing he is today. Hopefully it works not but yeah, I mean that's that's like the pinnacle, right. Oh, absolutely, that's what everyone hopes for. But I just hope
to keep taking on roles that get conversations started. And you know, again, I think like it's kind of been a common thing that I've been talking about, getting, you know, in, put in rooms that you deserve, you know, to be in, and and paving a way for people and telling our stories because they deserve to be told. So I think that's what I want to move forward. I want to hopefully direct more so I can help push those stories. But yeah, I'm just excited for the future.
Can you see yourself taking on a challenging role where you have to almost be method about it and live that character. Absolutely, those are the roles that I admire the most that I'm like, oh my gosh, they they had to gain a bunch of weight, like, look, they look totally different and like, you know, aren't afraid of like looking beautiful. Like I feel like those are the actors. Is that I just I admire so much Jim Carrie did that? Yeah, so many others right where even when
the cameras are off, there's still that character exacts service. Yeah, that's the whole thing. Yeah, that's that's Yeah. I've never been Phoenix, did it is? Yeah, it's pretty wild.
