Okay, welcome to the crown of command. I'm Josh and with me here I have friends from Italy. France. How are you? Hi, how are you? Not too bad mate. Thank you very much for joining us all the way from Italy. It's very late in the evening for you there and it's quite early for me here. But mate, it's really exciting to have you on because I love to having guests on from all around the world talking about their passions for the hobby.
So Franz had a do Discover tabletop games and miniatures. And discovered tabletop games during an holiday. I was 10, I think, and I saw my first role playing shop And I was with my grandfather and I wanted to go inside and I felt in love with the few meanings bad painted. They they were exposing in a box and I bought my first Miniatures. It was a Reaper. I think I could have it some work.
Oh, that's great. That was, was the gaming scene in Italy, then at that time when you discovered Miniatures and and wargaming, and that kind of thing was it quite popular there as a hobby choice? No, not so much because I was very, very young and toward the end of 80s, I think during 90s year. Yeah, you need to re also my City, open it one of the first shop and this way I I met wore armor for the first time and because he the shop sold only
what I'm rubbing enters I think. And so I started to buy boxes and Miniatures just to collect them and later, I discovered the game beside the mediator and I Our to play wear armor with the 5th edition and during the 90 years, the also the tournament movement improved very fast. The beginning, just the club and some shops offer. Some place to play.
But during 96-97 there was some important tournament and the beginning of the new century, we had the first Grand tournament in Milan. I remember I played Hey, that's excellent. So, it was a, it was a grand total amount of 50 dish. It was that right?
Yeah, I played a lot of Torment. I started with them motormen near home and I played a lot of ground to remain in Italy who also UK and I played a lot of ATC competition until ninth ninth age Division, I play wrong 5:30, Shinto 9th Edition, well. Okay, hit any like personalities from Games Workshop, like any of the studio stuff come down to the Grand tournaments in Italy, what story? Did any of the, you know, like the Rick Priestly or antechambers, come down from the
studio. In his first Grand tournament was Was quite small in a very beautiful place but a small place and later during the years, the tournament growed up, not as the UK grown to around. But we have some some nice events also in Italy and later, also games day will started and I think that, you know, the Europe because they The event made by games warship was similar, I think. Yeah. Recently you had a big
tournament. They're in Italy. Now this is the old hamburger old Hammer event is this the very first time you've hosted in run, ran this event?
I organized this event because I stopped to play warmer competitively way some years ago and because of family kids and they age and as I restart to collect just to collect and In The Collector words, overall on Facebook and social media, I discover really nice word made by great people, and I found that the Italian movement collector, mood need something new. And so I try to organize this event with the tournament 6th edition warmer.
But overall with The painting competition with a great price. They all the demon sculpted by his Bonnie and painted by very easily to Golden Eagle winners and a market, an expo space. Great bar restaurant and workshop with the famous painter and famous people and we had 150 People's was a great success. Well 150 people. Yeah, that's amazing.
Sq6 in the tournament and all the rest for the collateral events or just to, to see the market to buy to trade was very nice, just just ate a delicious food. You had a really good restaurant set up there. I see the bar and the restaurant was very important for the success of the event. And we, it's A preview most very probably we repeat the events during the ATC competition.
That's the will be organized in Italy in August the first weekend of August and after the success of the event ATC organizer ask the to organize something, all down there, inside the ATC competition. Why was it 6th edition? But who came to that decision in the end? Did you ask if Ready to say, hey, we can't, I ask him to
play. It's a trade Union between the really old armor 4th and 5th edition and a play again, quite nice and fast to play as opposed to play, you know, 4th and 5th edition, which is the you know, the additions that I I play and probably most famous for the 90s but I guess the only Difficulty, if you're running a fifth edition, told him it is that everyone has a box set of the magic. Yeah. Sure. The cards that you can probably get.
You can really get away if if one had like a custom-made set of Windsor magic cards and just their spell cards for the day. I mean, I think you could you could probably do it, you could organize it, you could get pre planned ahead of time. I mean, that's the only way to get around it that you can find some kind of Service and you just print off all the cards and then give it and make it available to all the people in the day. Yeah, that's probably one.
One way you can do it. Try in the future, why not? Yeah, I mean, you know the the guys in Poland, the pretty successful at it which is awesome to see. But yeah, no, I can understand why six would be probably the the choice that most people would take, but it'll be lovely to have maybe, you know, different editions played it. Different years. So maybe in future old Hammer, Italian events. We could have 50 additional fourth edition or even Third Edition.
I mean, it's, it's old Hammer. So I'll have a really, you know, associated with the Third Edition, the old editions of the game different from being that the mass for on-demand but it's very hard to play in the tournament. Yeah, that's very true. There are also two important reason behind the choice of the sixth edition. The first one was that in 6th edition, you could play or the Army's Tom Kings and all gray exist during the 6th edition before the Army range could be smaller.
And the second thing was the organization, the card, the magic object of the boxes you need for Carol's for real of chaos. It's quite difficult but we will try. I love that. So is this your favorite edition of whatever?
My favorite favorite? I think the fifth edition also, if I want my best prices during the 6th and the 7th edition ATC, Italian Championship Grand Touring, it UK tournament word during the sixth Vision was very, very improved, a lot of tournament, a lot of big tournament and we start to play in the Europe. The sixth edition in the fourth and fifth edition. Just few people came in UK or abroad play Not So Young. Yeah. 35 40, will the age of the
most player really 35 to 3035? That's really young, there are 25 for it. Yeah, well that's that's I'm really surprised about that. Okay. So you're very young guy then, friends. Well, you're a lot younger than me 45. Sorry. Okay. Right. 35 45. Yeah, that's good. And now was the atmosphere very competitive or was it really friendly and people just laughing and having always very
friendly? First of all because the tournament was in a very clear way on the info pack that the tournament would be not competitive to make the roux. We for the player. We had two or three, but no one called they were never called No call for the free, the player could resolve. The matter that between them. It was very nice that most fear. That's great. That's excellent. It's good to see ya.
It was they had some kind of award for the best Sportsman because usually in the old old tournament saying that have like a best Sportsman award and that kind of thing. Did you have that kind of Wood on the day award the price. So yeah. So like basically you have like the regular pliers of what second third or whatever. We have a special price printed. The complexity, with the image
of the events. It was a jumble actually, a very nice artwork with old under the Italia for Lee and the date first, second, third and best army. And for painting, I told you, we organized a special price and all the demon was very, very nice. And it was a real success for the painting, a competitors, and the painting competition was a fast painting. And so we as a present, we left all the models to the painters
after the competition. And we have some some gadget for play where a or the T-shirt with the image of the events. Nothing. So it's really good and now, as such for the totem, it you had some kind of trade stool there so people could bring like a Brink we select bringing by or bring in cell kind of thing there.
So did a lot of people bring goods to Sell on the day or trade Brands you had, like it's on break that people bring it because I saw a photograph sort of lots of tables full of Miniatures. Old Miniatures, that people will either selling or trading on the day.
Yeah, the Royals are, there were six big tables with six, big seller and other three, four tables for the players that they want you, they could expose Your army or tried to trade some meanness and I think the Expo moment was the best moment in the events. We've all really, really full of
people. It was near the bar and so a lot of people start to drink and then to buy me haters and then to give money to the painter for the painting service and or trade the Miniatures, the boat with other boxes. Very nice. A lot of people. I'm very proud of this part of the event and that's excellent. Our yeah, I would really enjoy that part, I think, just going through and be like going in one of those old local game stores and finding all these wonderful small Treasures on the tables.
Yeah, that'd be excellent for some some nice boxes on the table. Yeah, 200 blisters. Yellow and red. Wow, private, even yes. Hi. I will bring some of my boxes to trade and very nice. It depends if you really need it or not we don't have any friends but yeah but yeah you said you're a collector and you know as soon as I was aware of you on Facebook, you had a lot of pictures especially old Hammer like really old Third Edition stuff. 80s Collectibles.
So how how extensive like how large is your collection now now, now it's quite a bit. I finished all the boxes set from 80s and I miss just five metal box, metal box. It said from 90s. Oh, really? Yeah. And I completed all the Chenery. You sides. Make that lick my ass.
Master Charles overbooking often all the scenario all the villagers and a lot of. But the central point of my collection are the collection of the military service related to the old arama, the old Games Workshop games and so gangster daughter who Lone Wolf, paranoia Judge, Dredd Gothic horror. This is the the center My collection and and it's a model. But I hope to finish. Also this project in few months crossing fingers. Yeah, that's great.
And what is the most prized piece of your collection? Like, what's the most? What's the piece that you love the most? You cannot ever separate with part with. So what's your favorite pasta? Expansive Wars and ears and will be Be the chicken driver. What's the chicken Dragon? Sorry, please refresh my memory. It wasn't on the front page of an 80s catalog from games water. It's a dragon big as a chicken. Is it?
Is it like, is it like a really small dragon in comparison to a lot of the, like the emperor, Emperor, dragon, or the great spine Dragon, it's very small for four or five times. The of a dragon. Yes. Very big. Wow. And my favorite modest is my first model boat on the bay and it's the golden Paradigm. It's a very normal mode is not so rare and not so hard to find but it was my first DB model but both only be and I have it. The first Rogue always.
If you could go back in time. Like if you met dr. Who and he could take you back in time to the 90s or the 80s and you could go to a game so Ship Store anywhere in the world. Where would you go and what would you like to buy? I'd like to buy the last seven eight more than from gotta quarter and judged right? So I finished all this serious, I can find them now, it's more. More than a year that I am looking for them, but I can find the last models, right? Okay. That's great. Excellent.
I'll just read and he got a gotta cough but the color was the name Games Workshop, gave to to do series. They never had the royalties about to Lou but they prepare and printed a series of I think 60, 70 min. Otters and they changed the name and called them, gotta call from the word of the natives is clearly the to war, okay? All right, I'm not familiar with this particular range of of model. It's very nice. Try to check the catalog or so Legend So some sites but very,
very nice models. Yeah, it's out that it sounds like it's a it's it's something from like maybe mid 80s or something like that. Yeah 8787. Yeah yeah. I just have an 89 the golden age at that. Do any, you know, do you know anybody who actually plays Third Edition in Italy? This kind of game, I really like the really ever played them. I have the boxes, I have the books are the meanest, but I
never tried to play. Well, hopefully, we can get you in contact with the old Hammer community in Italy, because I'm sure there is one because I know Pain. Has their own old Hammer community, and of course, the UK does. And usually every country has some kind of Third Edition Community there. So hopefully, we can get you in contact with those people friends and so you can actually start playing the game that you collect all these Miniatures for.
That'd be great to see. I have not gone to with the player with all really hold a player. We have to to create the movement. I think you need to lie before. The sixth edition is very hard to To find players. I think, I know someone is trying fifth edition, but not the third, or the fourth or, or the older game different from where I am. And what games do you play these days? Like at the moment what are your favorite games to play the last
year? They try and the road when I'm around the world because of I have a kiss that he is a 10, he tried if you like it and we are playing underworld. Now look yeah, yeah, it's very nice. I have to admit it, I don't want to be here too, but the game is really an art work. I think is very fast, is very funny, it's very easy to play and it could be played as a simple game or I think if you play competitive is more complicated than warmer. Very nice.
But we are also playing with the heroquest combat rules with my kids, 10 and 6. All the Imperial campaign role-playing that all the, the old series of role-playing campaign from warmer debt. Over a shadow over begin often and for, because of the age of my son, we are playing with the Heroquest rules for the combats, with the dice special dyes, and it's nice. We play sometimes, but they like it and so on. I could read the story because I had the collection, but I never read them.
And so I found a treasure in my, my home. That's wonderful. So there you go. You creating the community already with the kids so that will remember all this stuff. And I have this big collection. Ya later on that they probably will pick up and play with your friends. Yeah, right. Yeah. We love the old books. Yeah. Me too. Ooh, I love the old books and actually some guy here in Japan. Had posted a whole collection of role-playing books.
The old very first edition. Rock will have a role play. Yeah but yeah though the prices were just way out of our reach now which is a shame because I love all those old books that are very nice. Yeah. Very big dish. Yeah. And the internal artwork is just amazing. I'll just buy it for that because into my work sister awesome. It was like a bee. Some years ago, 15 years ago, the price was very low for this
kind of books. I do I think the Facebook Market didn't exist eBay I really don't know 15 years ago but in Italy you could find some first edition book for few years, 20 years Spotify. Yeah and so I bought all this area during the time lucky you I never I never read a book just now with the kids I started and they Great. So, in future years, I take it. You are planning already for next year, 2023 or this year. Sorry, it would be 20, 22 maybe or 2023. You're planning a next old
Hammer, Italian, Italy event. Sorry, yeah, I told you that, you know, ghosts need to see, organizer asked to create an old a corner, but it will be more than a quarter because they want tournaments that like 22 also have more dime tournament and open tables for free games. We play and painting competition and Export Market Zone. All the old a event again in international because it is, he is really I think the most important International war on terror.
Games events for tournament and it's nice because the ninth Edition. Right? Age were honor between behind the old. The old armor would be nice. I think. Yeah. If you can get more people playing the older editions than the say that now we are asking to the international. Teams to to ask their Country For Old a player. So we could try to make international order more events and tournaments. Let's see. External users Rock today,
right? Yeah, if people were interested internationally or within Italy, what's the best way of getting in touch in touch with you? Is there a special group on Facebook that you have that you run for that? Sure for me with Facebook but also with Facebook page ATC Italia pasado. So they could ask directly to the organizer for hotel for accommodations. For for all. I will just organize the tournament and I will have the information from the ATC
organizer. It's not a problem, okay, that's what they could have all the information in with just one context. Great, okay. Well, I'll put the in Put some links Below in the show notes, so people who are interested, can click on those and follow them. You you later, my phone is gone. That's a that's my latest problem. But yeah, be good for people to get to prepare themselves.
If they want to go and to find out more information about the event itself, and when it's being held and what games being played, and that kind of thing, they might just want to turn up this. If there's a big trade trade whole thing, they might want to turn up to, Can you know have something nice to eat and drink and socialize and get some good trades on the day, who knows? Yeah, it's very important for and will dominate event in my opinion. Yeah, me too. I think so too.
It's really the bar and the restaurant and also the lunch is not the usual launch of a tournament. Now, 10 minutes as neck, go to play, it was a real lunch, one hour. The table. We finished thermite, very last very, very tight o'clock in the afternoon because of the lunge pose but it was good. I think yeah we got time to actually sit down, enjoy your meal and yeah have a good chart of what that more events I think and of course you're in Italy. I mean, you know, you know the
heartland of good food mates. Oh yeah, yeah. No it's good wine. Good wine as well. Yeah, I'm there. Halfway there. All right. Well, that's great friends. Thank you very much for coming on today and sharing your story and telling them were in Japan. Japan. Yeah. Well, this myself and a couple people make. That's it. That's, that's right. We're gonna have something.
Yeah. Yeah. If we can organize some kind of trip over to Italy, I'll be there because I've got, I've got three cousins which are Italian, which I haven't seen since. Wow, I don't know since I was six years old, so be great to go and visit them and visit Italy, and take my family over be great, but it's a great. Yeah, but yeah, we can only dream, we can only drink a sure. It's yeah, be lovely to go over there and well, see your wonderful country experience of food and, and great wine and
maybe pop over for a tournament. If if, if everything works out. But yeah, you don't believe me. Something about Japan. Yeah. Yeah, we can, we can do it. We can do it doing like an exchange thing. Where, you know, I come over there. Or you come over here like to come? Yeah, yeah, fantastic. Be good, man. Yeah, it's in the list. Well, I would love to have, I would love to do something like that.
Like, have like an old Hammer, Japan event, but I, I would, you know, if we did it, it would mainly consists of foreign players. I don't think many of the Japanese players would come, I think, because, you know, G Doubles introduced during 95-96 in Japan. So 5th edition was the very first translated box that they had here. And, you know, no one plays fifth edition in Japan to my knowledge.
I think only one person that I can think of has a collection of fifth edition models and stuff, but I think if they were running anything, it will be modern Games Workshop stuff. But we could, we could sort of cater for the modern than the old and that kind of thing. If you're doing something here but yeah, he knows. Okay Reba thanks it was a pleasure but it's a good good. Yeah, really good to catch up
with you. I really hope that this event in Italy grows and grows and becomes bigger each year and more people come out and know about it and hopefully, yeah, this interview will get you a few more people signed up to come this year back. So all the very best. Enjoy your games of will hammer and roll playing with the kids and Care. Really. Thanks.
