Marla Beck back to The Chronic command and with me, I've got our man, my man can't fix a go, mate. Yeah, pretty good. How about yourself? Yeah, it's good that we've been away from the Airways for a bit, but good to hear your voice again and I'm sure the listeners would appreciate it. So wait, what's been happening since last year, big influx of new people? Which is great and it's really good to see people that have newly joined putting up a photo. Toes of stuff that they're
painted or is in progress. So, yeah, like keep it up, you know. So basically you had a whole bunch of new people join and it's good to see them putting up photos and pictures of like fully painted stuff or in progress stuff, so keep it up. We want to see it. Yeah, I'm playing some 40K to there. Might recently, Brandy dog was kind enough to host, and we did an elder. This is turning heads battle and talk. Aux buses, hearing aids battle
was quite brutal. Orcs really need a whole bunch of new units for them to be effective, I think. But we'll see how that goes fan. I'm going to play against squats this Being fright, the next Friday on the 24th. So that would be fun. Now, you've actually got a YouTube channel which people probably have not known. Grim, Fang is as a member. Now I've just subscribed to it. So I'll put a put a link in the show notes and it didn't even know you had a YouTube channel. So there you go.
You can keep that very quiet. So you've got some. Yeah, very short sort of pose. Turn clips of your games with the guys there like brandy, dog and the rest. So yeah and some really cool iconic looking walk buildings in the back and pretty made back in the 90s I would I would assume I met him recently that you're probably as bad as something I will call. Now there's very cool, it's very nostalgic. We've got a I'd like to make some spike a cactus so if you ever do up a high to that would
be great. That's a good segue because I just made them and I just filmed the whole thing. So it's going to be A video coming soon. I'm just doing the 40K battle report that mean Paul play with his Imperial Guard, against my talks, with gas, coal and the Eric. So yeah, I'm just getting that finished and wrapping that up since that, wraps it up, I'll get the modeling, terrain one. Now, the one that for the river that people have been waiting for.
Unfortunately, my computer had a bit of a conniption and decided to delete everything, my entire project and then my videos. I don't know how deleted my videos on my hard drive, or my, my hard hard disk or whatever, but it's all going, so based off to start all over again. So that's okay. I'll get it. I'll call sort that out later. But yeah, lots of 40K stuff happening at the moment. Seems to be at the flavor of the month. Yeah, and a lot of cool stuff being painted, as usual by the
usual substance suspects. Right? With Game Wizards did and old Elder D Cannon. It's not something I've seen before actually very, very pretty. As you mentioned, you guys play the game together. Imperial Guard versus Orcs just in a little preview shots. You put excellent train and excellent painted Miniatures. Obviously so really Keen to see that. Lots and lots of content being
done lately. Yeah, so yeah, lots of people joining the group, a lot of people, lot of people talk about 40K course, is fully KCAL Bunga, painting challenges on now. So a lot of guys are active in that group, so it seems to be yeah, the flavor of the Season at the moment. So people have getting their 40K stuff on the table, which is great to see ya. And as always, people working on a lot of He projects Battle Masters. Got a lot of love over the holiday period.
Then you got people like Clem who is casted up these old obscure goblins for personal, use for his little army, made a really cool goblins with Goblin Wolf Riders and chariots I mean it's pretty cool. Yeah like I guess the the main thing is the Discord was a little bit quiet in the chat channels over the holiday period but once that ended everyone's back to having chats, a lot of chats based around Euro hours is the most thing I'm seeing so Americans.
If you're able to hop on at get chatting, don't know if I should be encouraging Americans, but, you know, kind of Isis have been quite a few Americans. They're actually, I joined a chat with dr. The Viking and gentleman. Who's living in Turkey, I believe, I hope he's okay. Because, yeah, what's happening over there is really, really horrific. So, I hope he's okay. And another gentleman from the US as well. I think they're all part of the challenge or something like
that. Because dr. The Vikings getting people to come onto the under the discordant having a chat as part of one of the challenges is one of the things you got to do to participate in the challenge. So yeah. Pretty cool. But yeah, like lots of activity in terms of, you know, people still producing posting and, you know, buying and selling or trading or whatever. And so yeah, across the whole board and spectrum of all the games and podcasts.
Of course, we've got, you know, the old Hammer Fiction, podcast and bedroom battlefields. Look at that channel there, now, for, for Matthew, and his, his stuff as well. I wins been busy. With time between X and the Flawless, skulls, and all that kind of stuff. So, yeah, mate. I think across the whole board, it's been really good to see such an active Community here.
So if you're not part of the Discord and you want to know more, you can either check out our YouTube channel, which are the crack at the kind of command me and kind of fix go through the whole thing about Discord and how to get into it and what it's all about because some people just don't know what it is and it's it's this word but behind the word, Word. There's no kind of you know there's no connection there. They don't know what it is. So yeah, gonna check out the
video. I'll leave a links in the show notes so you can check that out. I'll let people know about kind of fixes YouTube channel to check out these little mini battle reports and also in use to. Now the people who like the confrontation Side of things, I've actually start up a new channel, and I'm moving it all that content off the off, the off the podcast, and off the YouTube channel, and it's living. Now in the temple of the East, because it's in sort of a
associational partnership. If you like with temple of the West, that's Kyle's company in the u.s. doing confrontation Continuum. So, me and Paul be having fun playing hybrid the board game and we're going to do our battle, confrontation battle reports, everything will live in that and on that channel, and Ali, the Temple of the East Radio podcast will cover all the law chat. So we've got all that kind of stuff.
So if you like to confrontation, check out the links, in the podcast notes, show notes, and you'll find the the URLs to go to those places there. Right. Anything else made you want to talk about it? Yeah, just a little shout-out to Inquisitor Leclair. That's a Brazilian table. Top player.
That's joined the Discord recently and having some interesting chats about the challenges of being in Brazil and getting access to stuff that everybody else has either just because it's hard to import it or because it's ridiculously expensive and so almost worse than Australia with the taxes on stuff. For the bility so it's been yeah, it's been really interesting talking about that. Something. Someone you might want to consider I guess interviewing at some stage about those things.
Yeah. Yeah. Told that interviews we do have a few people actually, in Japan of all places. Matt. Yeah. There you go. That's another challenging hobby. Yeah, exactly. I can certainly relate. If people in Brazil, I can several, I think and this is way off topic. But I think PlayStation 1 or Playstation 2, didn't arrive in Brazil, until like, was it 15 years ago or something like that?
It was something crazy. Like it was just so it just wasn't, you just couldn't get it, just couldn't buy one there until many, many, many years later.
So, yeah, like it's interesting. Like, on a similar note, I always found Japan, got certain video games and movies, really, really late compared to other places in the world where, as you think, you know, like logically, you think, Uh, Penny get only the stuff first not, it's insane, Mass Effect, the Mass Effect games came to Japan, extremely light like a decade or something, right? Let that could be due to a lot due to translation and that kind of ties everything around.
Yeah, yeah, I know like a movie releases up later. Then Australia scheduled. So also this money I guess. Well I don't know because they've got they've got the population to support it. I mean, you know, yeah. Yeah, massive country a much bigger than, you know, you've got more more. Well, anywhere way, I've tried way off topic here. So we'll slide it back on, on the tracks, and yeah. So in terms of, in terms of interviews, there we have a couple guys from Japan.
I want to interview and bring on the show at some point, which would be really good to talk about how they got into the hobby. I need to get in contact with a few other people that I've been meaning to do. We'll have a chat with last year, but just didn't get around to it. So yeah. We're back on, we're back on track.
And Some things will slowly progress and pick up again as we move on through 2023. But mate, look, today, we've got Marcel's and mighty Empires campaign chat, so it's his kind of personal segment and Owen was very kind to do the like the intro and that kind of thing for him. So yeah, so Marcel will pop in every now and again, with his own little money Empires, chat and talk about how he's
progressing in his campaign. So, I hope you guys enjoy that today and yeah, so mate look, we've taken up people's time already. So let's let's sign off here and say goodbye and any last final words Emmett no, just keep up the continent guys. I'll not let you get a diary. I think it was like this really enjoying all the content that
people are posting. So even if it's project shots, you know, keep it up. I've got a few projects, I'm working on myself like a space, brain space, chaos, chaos, space frame, space Crusade, me and the board. So I'm going to start working on the board next week and I'll shoot up some. On progress shots as well in the Space Race Aid section of the Discord. Awesome. Okay, so yeah, finally at what, we're all talking about is basically on Discord.
That's where we live nowadays. So go and check it out, check out the links below and go from there. But until then guys, take care of yourselves and enjoy your hobby and we'll catch you in the next episode of The Chronicle and podcast series round. Hello. From The Chronicle of Matthias. The blade from Morgan Hoffmann in the spring of the year, two thousand, five hundred and
eight. The sixth year of the reign of our beloved Emperor. Carve Franz the dwarves of Kara Kaiser and car Hakeem opened their guarded passes. Thus it was possible. For everyone, from the humblest farmer of brittle, Nia to the wealthiest Merchant of marienburg to travel to the Lands Beyond for a fair amount of gold, even the Armed Forces of mercenary captains and noblemen were now allowed through.
And so it happened that many folk wandered from the towns and the cities of the Empire Prytania and even far kislev to make their luck in the land. Now, known as the boulder princes, but not only men were seeking their luck bands of dwarves and hordes of green skins travel there as well. And soon many tales were here at about the small Realms and Petty kingdoms founded and raised within the span of a few years. Let me then tell you the tale about these Mighty Empires.
Welcome to a special episode of the crown of command podcast. Thanks Owen for the nice intro, visit his YouTube channel or podcast on Spotify or other platforms time between times. If you like Welch folk stories and tales. Yeah. This intro is planned with my mighty Empires campaign in mind. Yeah, and all the fantasy armies. I painted for the painting challenges so far. I had this campaign already in mind, so all that background is kind of tied to the campaign.
Yeah. But as we all know campaigns are a lot of work or hard work and so this is still a project for the mayor. Let's hope not so far future but let's see. So let's talk about my favorite Games. Workshop game first, some facts about the game. It was published in 1990 and written by Rick Priestley and Nigel Stillman. Its massive box. Those the same format as the fourth edition, one my fantasy or second edition, 40 came starter sets Comes with 112 cardboard.
Heck Styles, you use to build your Realms or map where the rounds are on. It has beautiful plastic villagers Castle cities armies and chips and mm, some dragons and a lot of counters and some of the plastic castles and cities you can see on some Manowar Studio pictures, where they use that as scenery, and the mighty Empires dragon is even on the sign of the famous Tavern. You see, in a lot of the old battle reports, it's on the, on the sign, on the outside of the tavern.
Yeah, the the rule book has let me check around 63 pages. And it's full of the old-school black and white art work. A lot of the artwork is recycled from other games, like it wants to request and the warmer role-playing game. The artwork of the box is something really special because to my knowledge. It's the only artwork GW ever used based on an actual painting. So nothing that was produced by the artists of Games Workshop.
It shows the Battle of issus with Alexander the Great and the Persian king Darius, and it's the work of Albrecht altdorfer. So, a very Warhammer Irish name, you can see. And the picture is now in the museum, the alte pinakothek in Munich, it is from 1529 and I'd of Dolph has most famous Ting Napoleon during his conquest of Europe, got it handsome. His hands on it and liked it so much that it decorated his bathroom. Yeah, I can only speculate why
GW choose this picture. Maybe the, they like the name of the paint as a reference to the Empire's capital or maybe because the massive battle scene fitted, right to the theme of the game where you muster mighty. Knees and battle against each other. Who knows? The mighty Empires game are actually two games in one because you can use it as a campaign setting for your warm of fantasy battles.
And if we are talking about one, my fantasy, I mean here the Third Edition of Warhammer fantasy battles so you could tie your battles into a campaign and it's yeah really story-driven because you can come up with names for your Characters for your Empire cities whatsoever. And so to provide a framework that you just don't have silly pitched battles against each other. But you can say our this was the
battle in the year. So and so and to give a nice background framework and flavor and the other use of the game, you could play it as a standalone board game. So you play the game Exactly, like you would play for the fantasy campaign but if a battle occur, you would not use your tabletop armies and play the battle out but use little cards with Maneuvers on it. Like flank attack, frontal, assault Retreat, and so on, and then you, of course, roll a die and you could compare with the table.
And then you would see how many troops you would lose or your And and whatsoever. So a quick way to do battles and then you just would play it like like a board game this method. You could also use in the campaign game, if you don't want to play out battles with your miniature. So quick and easy way to fight battles and have a result quickly and just don't use your miniatures. The game was supported by some white dwarf articles.
We are talking about the white dwarfs from 130 where the game was introduced to roughly 135. And there you had articles about new Miniatures that you could buy in metal for the game. For example, new locations, you could expand fine during Scouting face in the game like the famous visit our that look exactly like the tower in the Citadel company logo or a necropolis. There was a pirate ship, a mind,
a temple. Then you had a Siege train that gave you benefits for seizures, if you besieged cities or fortresses, and then you also had a little metal Miniature for an undead Army because if you find an acropolis, you could send in your Scouts, your world a lot on some tables.
And in the worst case, you would wake an undead Army and this Undead Army is presented by a little metal miniature on the board and if it counter one of your plastic Banner Miniatures, then you would find out a battle with Miniatures against Undead. If you like Or just use the quick method I explained earlier, then, what else? You had a pirate ship, funny enough. The same scale as many warships, so you could totally use it for Men of War. Also, the plastic ships that came with the game.
You can use perfectly as merchant ships or transports for men of orbitals highly recommended. Then you had also new tiles. You could copy and Cut out, like, what was it volcanoes? And I think also just plain blue tiles. You could use to as ocean tiles. Yeah, something like that. Also there were some articles in Citadel journals with new roles for diplomacy and a little bit more background or special rules for the different races of the warmer fantasy world. Quite nice stuff.
And the campaign rules got an upgrade in the white dwarf, number 163 over, the rules were upgraded from one of my fantasy petals Third Edition to the new fourth edition. So for example, in the old rules, your head injuries for your characters, like, oh, he lost a leg or an arm and now, he can't move that fast and his movement rate.
Or Stat is reduced or his fighting skills is reduced and so on. So you still had a lot of this role-playing approach from the old Hammer, Third Edition in the root set and that was kind of dropped in the transition to fourth edition, but I guess you can, if you like still use it for 4th edition but it's a lot of bookkeeping.
So as you like later, I think during the early 2000s, there was a new addition of Mighty Empires under the same name and it didn't had the cardboard tiles but only hex plastic tiles with Landscapes on both sides and it was like a little jigsaw, you could attach the tiles together. So they stayed in place you could paint. Them. And yeah, just play the battles.
It only came with a few pages of rules for a campaign game with the Miniatures and didn't had the board game version of the game in it. So you could just use it as a campaign game for your fantasy battle. Some time later there was also a version of the tiles for Warhammer 40K. So you could use this as a campaign game 41 or 42. Okay, and you could also mix both tiles totally with each other. No problem at all. Yeah, for me, it's yeah, it's a nice to have, but I don't own it.
But for me, the old, the first edition is the best. I would say because it comes with a lot of background and a lot of yeah, detailed rules and so either, but some people like the plastic tiles and you now can get a lot of 3D. Printing tiles to have like castles on it and whatsoever. Okay? So let's see what the rules are about. It starts with. Yeah of course, explaining the tiles, the plastic tokens, the cardboard tokens and the textiles for making your Maps.
There are special rules like you start with the mountains in the middle and then build your little map. It's a lot of fun. I must say, I spent most of the time just building maps with it because it's really satisfying. Mmm. So what next Yeah, we build your IR and then the realm and the ramp is like, your starter Kingdom for the game. So it's your Capital Tile and the six tiles around it. So seven in total and in the middle, of course, is your Capital.
Your so you put your little city plastic, miniature on it, the matching flag with the color of your affection, and then you roll a die. For all the six tiles around it. And you have different tiles, Lowell and Highland River and Coastline and river is the most fertile. So there's a higher chance that it is occupied by a village, a fortress or city. A city is, of course, gives you more gold and Fortress is good for defense, but you can later on upgrade your village to a T for gold?
Yeah. Then you create your army, the armies are called banners and have minimum point value of 500 points to 1500 points per been are Miniature. But you could just move or combine them by having multiple Banner Miniatures on one tile to have like a 3000 Point Army. And it depends you can just work out a complete Army lists for one Banner like say you have been a 1 and it is 500 points.
And you have sewn. So many spear spear man unit with this equipment, you have a night unit with this equipment. You have a cannon and a polygon and The Wizard, and so on. So on, so on, so you can work it out as much as you like and if your battle or cures, you know, okay.
That's it. What I have but it's a it involves a lot of bookkeeping because if you or if the unit or the Army suffers casualties you have to work out what unit loses water and so on. And if it's the can it still filled with in the Army list, is this legitimate or whatsoever? So a lot of bookkeeping I would say, the best way is to just work out the power point value for the battle.
And if a battle, of course, you would just build your army and use rules from the Army book, The corresponding Army book, so. But as you like, they are kind of house rules used. I read about, like, with special characters like you have calculus, so you have to mark tactless as in this Army, so he can't be part of another Banner on the other side of the realm. So then these banners You build use baggage counters that represents like a, your supplies. Then we have the campaign season.
I are first you calculate how much baggage is used for your about, from your armies. Then you do scouting or scouting is a lot of fun. Every time you move a banner in an unknown tile, you roll on a scouting table. And it can be from nothing, just Barren, put your control marker on it. It's yours. Now to, like, in a mountain tile, you could wake up dragons and then they go on a rampage. So, typical old-school warmer a lot of tables that funny results from good to really, really bad.
You can encounter independent settlements, they can join. Your Empire using diplomacy very simple way or you can just try to conquer them. If you encounter a city, then it's in a corner Coast tile, then it is a Harbor City and it can have ships. You can also use Men of War to fight sea battles because the nether rules in the rulebook are
very, very basic also. Nice way to incorporate Eight Men of War and we have movement and what is done to move into battle, then you have the battle results. So the quick way with the tables and modifiers, then you have sieges, if you don't play them out in a on the table top, you can race tiles like destroying settlements, resin to the ground. Yeah, the Neville rules are just
two pages. So really, really Basic then you have winter season and the winter season all the fighting stops and you have to track supply line to your home run and
that isn't possible. Then bad things can happen to your army so you can lose a lot of troops at the beginning of the winter season, the Autumn Equinox and the Spring Equinox there, you can cast spells if you have a banner in your Capital, then there's a wizard in it and then you You can't cast spells, you roll on a vent table, of course, from good to really bad. You have a diplomacy phase recruitment recovery where raised settlements can try to
recover. You can construct fortresses or ships and you deploy your armies with new baggage for the new year and then you have Espionage Espionage can be. Also really can be a real Strong factor in one of our games that happened that during Espionage one Army, lost more points during bye-bye sabotage like poisoning Wells or whatever. As during the whole summer campaign battles. So can happen. You have some spells for spring and Autumn you have the winter events?
Yeah if you roll a 12 with to D6 on the winter event table, Abel you have dragon rage from the heart of the mountains at the center of the world. Great dragons. Come roaring forth to raise the land and strike Terror into all who lie in their path. That's a lot of fun. Cause you asked you first roll? How many dragons? So that's the time where you use this plastic Dragon Miniatures
and they move by random. So you always roll a D6 and then that marks the side of the tile they are moving and then Luke through your RAM or hopefully not and destroy everything in their path. Thomas C recruitment, recruiting allies construction Espionage. Yeah, you can have assassins spies saboteurs and agents and all come with a different kind
of table. So let's say, for sabotage on a D6 roll, One or two, the saboteurs discovered and dealt with before you can accomplish his mission to on A6. The saboteurs sets fire to the settlement causing immense damage and killing many people. The settlement is considered to have been raised banners and the Thailand any baggage held by them are not affected, ships are destroyed under the six role or
No.5 on the four, five or six. So here goes your settlement and hopefully it's not your Capital then there's a section about. Yeah, playing out the The top battles. You have also really nice Train table where you have like like in the in the rule books you can roll out for the different type of tiles, like yellow land, 12 inch, length of hatches and so on. So then can the special routes for the characters? What happened to them if they
got wounded. So that's like I said, more like Third Edition and then you have my favorite part. But The Campaign World, it comes with, Rachel rules for some of the warmer fantasy races. And as I said in the Citadel journals, they came up with more rules to cover the different races. So Empire is just think really normal nothing special, I guess. If I remember correctly, I'm dead have nice special rules because they don't need But they get weaker and weaker the further away.
They moved from their Capital Orcs and goblins have need nice supply routes. If they run out of package they try to eat each other. So first all the snot links got eaten than the goblins. And then the Orcs, And is still, you only have black ops in your arm is kind of, so that's fun. And the troughs get bonuses to find routes through the mountains just gave ins have to raise every Settlement. They capture to get supply. That's really nice.
And then you're also have really cool tables for names like Dwarven place names so you can come up with a Dwarven stronghold called car a look for example. So you have to roll the dice the 20 year and so you have named results and then you have like the last part is campaign Chronicles. So if you want to write a Chronicle about your campaign, you have like informations about writing or inventing your own calendar, like the month of the dragon and so on. And the last part is how you
paint your models. So that's about the route book. And yeah, I came in contact with Mighty Empires. I saw it at a friend's house, he owned the box back in the day. So it must be around 92, maybe and I was, of course, fascinated by all these plastic models and cardboard, tiled to build your realm. Funny enough. This friend didn't have any other Warhammer stuff, you only bought Mighty Empires And I learned it from him for a couple of days and spend, I think the whole weekend just building
ramps. And then years later, I went to a war game convention and there was a brilliant by and some guy was selling it and really cheap and I bought it. And during the years, I bought some additional sets complete or otherwise. So I'm now opening to a Half sets of Mighty Empires and that's really cool because the more tiles you have the larger your map gets and I'm also lucky enough to own some of the metal managers. I have the wizard tower some of the undead banners and don't ask
me why a lot of pirate ships. If I remember correctly, I bought a lot of men over stuff and for whatever reason, they There were 12, Mighty Empires pirate ships in it. So, I'm happy to trade some of these away for maybe other metal Miniatures. Yeah. And as I said in the beginning, the plan for me is to incorporate all the armies. I have so far painted for one of fantasy, like my High Elves, my Empire Army and now my dwarfs will be all take part. In my mighty Empires campaign.
So they all have their starting realm. They have their names and their kind of mission. And my campaign map is based around the Border princess. But yeah, you as I said, you're totally free to come up with your own ideas and do what ever background. You like, you can also use a complete unknown part Out of the warmer world. So like a the part beyond the world Edge Mountains, for example whatsoever, you're
totally free. Yeah. And some people also came up with kind of online version for it so you can get digital files to use it on or what's it called? Tabletop simulator also nice way. Because the problem with these games is you have Do it. So the campaign takes a lot of time and after you played a couple of rounds where to put it, because it covers a lot of space. So some people glue them on a large piece of cardboard, or frame them, or whatever, or use magnets, or blue tag.
I just built it my map. And then took a picture and used a graphic program to keep track of the progress of My Ram. So I scanned all the counters and took pictures from the plastic Miniatures so I can put them on the picture. If my Scouts is covered a new settlement, then I can put a village there and so on it's also a little bit of work but I think from from myself, I think a nice way to keep track on it and to avoid a lot of bookkeeping. Yeah but so far these are All rough ideas.
But yeah, maybe if I finished, my Dwarven Army for the ongoing crown of command painting challenge. Then I can incorporate them and have then three armies to play this campaign, but let's see. Maybe there's also a way to incorporate the community and play games remotely with other players. Maybe that's also possible. Because, as we adults as well, Have seen it is possible to play one of fantasy battles remotely, so why not play a campaign with
it? I mean you also have the fifth edition campaign rules in the in the back of the rulebook. So I hope I gave you a short introduction into this game is f my favorite game and maybe it's my favorite book game because you can add a lot of background and fluff into it and maybe that's a role player in me who really likes it too different. Two settlements, two characters and to write a chronic like in the year. So and so there was a battle between the Orcs And The Dwarves with that result.
So I really like that because it gives more flesh to just a pitch battle where you wrote some ties, okay? I hope you enjoyed that and I'm looking forward to your feedback and have a nice day goodbye.
