Here we are back at the time Josh, I can't effects. Hang on, mate. Yeah, pretty good. I've sounded better but that's why I'm giving you the mic mate, and you can give us a good rundown of what's been happening on social medias, and that kind of thing this week. Yeah, will do. I'll try and recapture as much as I can. Sorry if I missed out on a little tidbit here and there. But basically, I just want to mention a really cool game of Epic.
I watched recently it was done by the life of diet Channel and it was between Elder and sluggish, and it was a very sort of not slavish night / Titan. Heavy / Army, really, All life of die as in D. IE. Check it out. Really enjoyable? It's pretty cool. It's always nice to see a battle between two forces that you don't. They're not run-of-the-mill in a way. Now, just to mention, I just wanted to go over some of the stuff that's been posted up on the Discord.
Captain crayon. He's been finishing up some epic land. Raiders and a war hound Scout tightened. Or classic models, really, really nice to see that and it's October. Unfortunately, that means it's October. So, almost everyone seems to be working on aux of some description. So, for example, printer Tom, he's been working on these like really classic fantasy Orcs And I have been seeing some goblins around as well, but we can only mention talks because it's October.
Not Goblin Toba, whiskey, Wizard or been. He's been doing this mechanic with a shock attack on the classic Model and as usual, disgusting lie. Brilliant, you know, makes you really just you just think oh well I could wish that I was that cool. Anyway, I kind of imagine how many hours the glass spends on that but it's just a really nice to see and he's been doing basically progress shots on the Discord. So you can you can see it sort of come to life.
It's really excellent and even Josh You know, he's been working on the whole massive group of fantasy Orcs And that was really cool to see and can't wait to see more. Really now Games Workshop posted up a video on how to paint a first edition boy similar to this Rogue Trader paint scheme that seen in a white dwarf with a really classic Rogue Trader like awk model and everyone grumbled like Grog nods and got
a little bit. Happy with it because they've used a modern model and their views a retro paint Scheme. Yeah it's a real really cheeky. You know, they what they should have done is pulled some classic walk out of nowhere and put it as like a pre-order walk which they have been doing. I recently got like a Old Second Edition kail sorcerer that they put up as a limited run. They should have grabbed one of those. I painted that I've been Rogue Trader colors here. I am grumbling already.
And then put it on like pre-order, you know, like in six months time you can get one Rogue Trader or something like that. The no brains. I don't know who's running their marketing department, especially after that vote an incident, which I won't go over on this podcasters, doesn't belong, but people will know what I'm talking about those dorks. Anyway, Jingles person has been taking his squats. Yes, that's right.
Squats out and He's posted up some really cool battle shots have been fighting against things like corn chaos, tyranids nergal really excellent pigs. Fantastic terrain and always good to see squats having an outing. He's using that sort of fan-created codex which got the gyrocopter, which is really cool. It's this big sort of, you know, not quite an ornithopter, not quite a gyrocopter. Big, big thing with a bit battle
cannon on its really awesome. Oh, and he's got this really sweet, converted expedite, Elder Army. Now everyone. Ever since Dino Riders, everyone's wanted to have an elder expedite Army and he's pulled it off. It's really cool to see these conversions, especially the prison tank or some stuff. And likewise David, a, who's one of our Discord? People. That's in Poland, which we'll come to later. We've got a few Discord members, running amok in Poland and enjoying food, drinks and games,
I'm ready. Listen David, I posted up some great shots of his to needs that he's basically finish off as a small force in action, fighting against what look like Imperial fists. You know, some sort of cowardly, yellow Space Marines that shoot from a distance discussing, especially as an iron Warriors play. I have to say that now Ed from minisodes and Albert had posted up some great-looking blood, Angel models lately, really cool to see that and looking forward to more videos.
As from minisodes The Phoenician, post it up and excellent Chaos versus chaos Peaks and a link to his Instagram. There's some really colorful photos there. Lot of classic models as well, really? I recommend you check that out. It's quite nice. And in Manowar, we've had people like, Joe Jr. Hide showing off his dwarf Fleet, as well as Chris Snider showing off his dwarves. Really cute little models there. And I have to give a sort of special show. Out to voiced rounds.
Tiny little flying, cast-off, mounted on a bull Taurus on like a little flying stance. So cute. And he's done really well with that and I'm loving the halflings. He's been working on their, fantastic and jail. Hide also showed off a little neat, little dark elf ship. Very, very cool. I love this sort of stuff and as always like Albert's one of the people who create like a 3D models for Mana or Star so you can check check that out in the 3D model section as well.
Now, more time, wise stew or shattered Shields. He's been showing off this skaven and then there's also posted up all of these excellent tournament shots, and they're excellent, awesome models, cool, terrain. And then Timber dini, he's got, he's like really cool, sort of pose, shot of his sister's warband. Ready to smash some heads with the Hammers and flails and he also It'll feel really sick. Nick Rimando board that he's group use. It's like festooned with
terrain. It's pretty much like a 3D playing field. This is perfect fantastically painted. You can only dream just sort of like, play on massive, complicated boards, like that, it's great. Just be sure. You don't lose your models in that probably easy claims bents. Play, playing a little bit of space Hulk which is always cool to see. Don't ever see enough of that sort of stuff and other day has been painting up some lizard
man. They're Like a purple scheme, which I'm all about purple and yellow, love those colors. Very nice, brush, a resilience painted up a neat, pansy Chariot, some kind of Elf Chariot. What else? Maybe, I don't know. Can't tell pointy ears, you know, makes me sick old own else wilf. Now, the cutter, he finished off a big cast off Cannon, love it. And on the flipside, sage-grouse, painted up some thunderer's for the cotc challenge. Now, it's been a lot.
Of talk and between all of the challenges going on, Cowabunga cotc love it. I can't wait in a few months to see all the sort of results of this stuff and recently, we've seen some excellent yellow things. Again, with the yellow Whirlwind from space, Crusader has been working on Imperial forces. She's got a very cool Instagram
as well. I recommend checking that out and Captain Skyhawk. He's been working on a big high Elf Army. Now it seems that mono pose want Also sort of back in fashion, might be talking out of my rear bit, but maybe with things like contrast, paints and those classical colors. People are sort of appreciating monopoles models. Now, especially since we've all come to learn that youth in your paints and Prime them use a bit of contrast and they look quite good.
When we usually post paint Mana post models for the first time we're probably around 10 or 11. 12 years old, May pay them on thick and maybe there's a bit of disdain that comes from those models. From back. Then we had very basic painting skills, maybe, but whiskey in Wizards, again, showing off again with his, like, vampire mounted on the Steed. Some sort of, I don't know, gross, looking vampire, and it's a completely skeletal horse with this. Beautiful sort of Amber.
Amber red barding, it's really good. I love it. Love the shading. Fantastic. And on that same. Sort of note, Magnus Stillman. He's been doing things like classic skeletons and Undead. Post up some really cool flagellants. And squid squid Hopper showing off his bum which is very very funny model. You gotta love that but it's time to make things like that anymore. That's so cheeky. Now, I'm still waiting for some more updates from more glum.
He's working on his Orcs. He's basically managed to recreate that second edition or codex. Cover with gas goal, tracker on basically, posing on like a squished Marine with a Squig Hound kind of thing nearby. I can't wait to see the results of that. It'll be excellent. Really, really happy to see that very jealous of all the people that can get together in Europe and enjoy these events. Keep up the good stuff, guys.
Very nice kind of fix. Thanks very much mate for that big huge wrap-up of what's been happening on special on a Discord. And yeah, and a shout out to people on their Facebook. I don't frequent it as much these days but I do popping in to see what's been happening in
a lot of the called the crown. Two entries have been flooding in with people already painting up their units or doing testing out on them, on their models and that kind of thing before, you know, going to paint their regiments and that kind of stuff. So, we will hear from G. EJ about that later on in the episode.
But as kind of fix alluded to, yes, we do have some crown of the cat command members running a muck around in the old Hammer, Poland event this year in. I think it's in Warsaw where they have held it and Marcel was kind enough to send me through some like a short audio of them, talking about the event and what's been happening and their plans for their stay there.
So that'd be really fun. If you haven't seen any photos, go to the Discord and you'll see at the old Hammer Poland 2022 Channel, you'll see a lot of photos that are see all of drop their and other guys have been playing great games of Man O'War. And and more electrons pass from the fourth edition box set as well as talking about their campaign and that kind of thing they've been playing there. So yeah, really, really good stuff.
It's really encouraging to see so many people taking part in this, in the hobby at the moment. So maybe let's wrap it up there and let's get on with the what's going on with the community content and interview? We have Johnny Johnny Watson from Johnny Watson gaming from YouTube, so he's on his really good guy. So I'm sure you're everyone's going to enjoy listening to him. Talking about what he's been up to and how he got into the hobby. So until then, kind of X, you
take care of yourself, mate. Don't work too hard. I'll try not to hear how I met. And until next time, I Ty. Thanks very much. We'll do a. Cheers. Have a good one. UT my take a enjoy. Yeah. So hello from Poland from Very special pod card, podcast podcast. It's already started. Yeah, it's a kind of early. It's 10 a.m. and I have here with me, jagoda and David E and Timothy. So I think we may be the largest meeting of Call of the crown
members in person. Definitely, yet from is probably the only meat I think that happen probably over to. Yeah. Oh my God, that's me. Yeah, we met Owen. Yeah. Okay. Maybe maybe otherwise, please Community come back to us at. Correct us. Exactly. Okay. And yeah, we are here on the third day of the Old Timer event in Poland that is hosted by teachers. And as gaming Club here in Warsaw, the weather is perfect for I mean because it's raining a little algae and cloudy.
Yeah, but yesterday, it was wonderful. Yesterday was sunny and even a little bit warm, but we just stayed inside and play games, even know if it was right or not. Yeah, yeah. And so far they are, I would say 30 members over the days before, you know, it training, So most of the guys are playing this really large campaign game, they are doing now for quite some
time. Over the, over the old Hammer event during the years, I think they play some kind of fifth edition with house rules and little bit of more time role-playing stuff. It looks really cool. I have no clue about it, but they all have fun. And there was a small Painting competition taking place. In a lot of guys were getting prices so that was really nice. I took some pictures in the Discord so you can see some Impressions on that. Hmm.
What else? There was a war Master game going on I think was it green Skins versus versus? No it was yeah demons worms. Something as the ammonia normal because it's it's not your original. In our game is the revolution, okay? Which is something fun base made after they traded their, but I mean, nice Miniatures, who can complain then what else here over America? Yeah, it's not. Okay. Yeah, thank you Timothy. It started with a goal, come Walker campaign. So that was a lot of fun to watch.
Yeah. Shooting Ox shooting at each other and having racing races with their buggies, then? Yeah. He met also Marcel the younger and he had a nice hero quest game. Yam in a war is for us. Here, the big hits. That's it's just again a fun game. And I also hosted here, the mock front pass a scenario from the fourth edition box set, that was a really nice and I played it with Yellow, polish guy, joined us and daddy was taking all the elves and tell us about. Tell us about the game, I fear.
I destroyed the, the introduction game because I the first turn, I shoot with my high school board problem. Yeah, the bottle, where a single bolt killed immediately ground pods. So the second bolt in the second. Third killed, niblet, niblet. So there we are. More Heroes and then they the wizard on the wyvern yeah. Came in the third turn and the bolt, our shoot him and kill it in all track.
So it basically the game ended in 3/3 because there were no more or characters so it has been pretty. Yeah. Low-profile game. But yeah, it was fine. It was good. It was quick. Yeah. Yeah. I think definitely quick game and an intriguing for sure because then we didn't even have an end-to-end. Um, but face, so what I, what I saw is that the other guy also enjoyed playing with old miniature? Yes. Yes. And I mean, it's called hero, Emma for reasonable. So, even if all the heroes, get
killed in Europe turn. So, that was quite a cinematic. Let's call it that way. Yeah, and yesterday. Yeah, Eric polish guy that contacted me via Facebook because he wanted to bring as many War fleets and we Large to on too many war game. Here Timothy and Eric played nergal and Eric's beautiful chaos, dwarf Fleet and Davide. And I played High Elves and Empire and I must say that was the first time I met chaos dwarves. And oh, boy, they are shocking. They're basically playing
another game. I mean, they're using 50 dish on Ma. Max. Yeah, the time it's like a nuclear weapon but it didn't kill anything. Except one of the chaos dwarf ships against the rocket launch fail rocket launcher devastated by Graham with a single lead. The problem with chaos dwarf is it's all-or-nothing first turn. We tried to cast a spell and it killed our wizard. So no magic for the rest of the
game. And yeah, the the big weapons were terrifying, but they didn't do much, I mean, ten hits on the bigger and the smaller the squadrons of the chaos, towards the relevant, the round ones, one game. I think that they need to be. I mean they're really, really strong. Yes. Because if those of want things heat, yeah, you have. Your Fleet is gone. You won't move. At least you won't move a plastic, doesn't it does not suffer the wind? Yeah, because they always delete. Yeah. True. True.
Yeah at least after the wind. Yeah. Maybe maybe. Or you just have to counter them. The hell of with magic spells and probably Mobility. Yeah, but we had a blast. The game took longer as we expected and I mean we even managed to kill some of their ships. So yeah, it was not one-sided. It was a lot of a lot of fun with all the vertical rods over in second or I think. Yeah but kind of second third basically scored on this.
And of course, a lot of Lucky Day roads, first of all, they saved nothing and then they saved everything. So yeah, like, like all these games from the 90s, we had a blast. Yeah. So and besides the wargaming event, we went to the Old Town of War, so we went to a nice Polish restaurant and ate a lot of Polish food. So yeah, go to how do you enjoy the event so far? Yeah, I mean there are there are
really nice people here. So that's nice and it's good to look at all the Miniatures. Oh that's fun. The painting competition was nice and then a war game was also really good. Yeah. Right. We played also minerals. It was Empire vs hyena laughs. Yes yes. Yeah. Yeah, David and me, we were playing the High Elves and we were really, really good. Yes. We, we thought we had it, but then our like terms and we actually lost. So, yeah. It's it started really well.
It started really well. Yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. And then probably the men of war game has been the the through protagonist of the frost. Because we are not taking part in their campaign game.
I mean they have a lot of fun with their campaign but as you can see, a lot of people are curious about Men of War and we had some Polish people join us on our games because you don't see that often and I think that's really nice for people to see this game actually getting played and not just the catalog pages and stuff like that. So that was really really cool. And today, there will be 40K. Second edition game. I think David do you want? Yeah, we play with Tito's on.
I think you will bringing a fist through if I remember correctly. His armies. Yeah he has a fish. I will bring my Tara needs. So yeah. Dude. It went game. I think I can finally use my models. Yeah I collected the don't use. Yeah. So at least For once I can play with my models against someone else. So it's very fun. And only took your flight over the Alps, to play a customer. That's being two of these games suitcase full of models.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And, and you, and you Timothy, so today I'm hoping to see the Third Edition Siege game. Yeah. The, the whole event has been really fun connecting with the with people. Lots of laughs. Everybody tries to communicate his interest. The campaign is interesting to watch halfling armies Wells, great Miniatures, good people, good fun. And yeah, I'm hoping to see more today, okay, man, of war was
fantastic. Maybe we will play another game because it's kind of short and easy to set up. Yeah. It's quick so and it's always fun and it's always fun. Yeah. Right. And sadly David. He has to leave us today later in the evening so he has to go. Back to Italy. Sunny Italy. Hopefully I think it's raining. So yeah, yeah. And here Timothy and will stay with us for the rest of the week and we will try to explore Warsaw do some sightseeing.
Maybe go to some museums, go to a lot of restaurants. Yeah so there will be a lot of Polish Cuisine be involved and maybe we can check out some hobby stores. Yeah. Some some game stores and Some bookstores also easier to find bookstores over game shop. Yeah, probably, but Google can be your friend. There is a Gameshark Store Games Workshop. Yeah. Games. I didn't check. But yeah, I mean we are in the capital at least one. Yeah, the backyard of some no no no no. It all exists.
Yeah, yeah possible. But we will check. We have some days and we will make out the best of it to spend a lot of our vacation money and yeah you have vacation buddy, pocket money or whatever. Yeah, I got buddy. That's the point. Yeah. So okay guys, I hope you enjoyed our little episode here and yeah, see you soon. Take care of soon. See I Hello everybody. Its GJ with an update about the call of the crown. Addition to the painting challenge. We are underway and boy are we under way?
We have a total of let me check it real quick 82, different armies being painted across, 80 people. And there have been some stragglers coming in and I don't know exactly. And this will are, but if you are hearing this, and if you're thinking, well, maybe I also want to join. And if there are still some days left in October, please feel free to drop me a message and I'm sure we can arrange something. 80 people have signed up so far and already I have seen the first results come in.
Well you have a lovely Beast Man Shaymin and battle standard-bearer. And there has been a unit of A cold one nights with two swords Heroes that have been submitted and these are from James st. Cyr if I pronounce it correctly and Mark Muirfield respectively. Thank you guys for already submitting your entries. I know both of you started early. Probably couldn't wait to get started on the challenge. I've also seen a lot of test models pop up in the Discord and on Facebook people starting
their armies. People Really getting excited for this and I'm very happy about that. I've just been rendered pretty much speechless by the enthusiasm that I have seen so far. I did not know that the call of the crown challenge would Garner so much interest. We have seen some some lovely themes coming up as well. I know there are a couple I love, guys, I believe they are from England who are doing this state of for gamer style and at a Joshua and I believe it was
Paul are doing their entries. They are flogging about them or they are going to be vlogging about them. We have a nice family relationship in here that I know of and uncle and his nephew and as it happens to be the nephew, got his army from the uncle. I'm Sure if you guys want me to shout out your names or your internet handles, not sure if you want to know the world you are related. But for the sake of privacy, I won't just now.
So let me know if you if you are just announced yourselves on the Facebook page or the Discord group, we have had a lot of interest especially at the last minute. It was a belief on the last day or second to last day before this challenge started that I put online A blog post with all the entries and all the armless and pictures that I had received
so far, but a war. And there are still a few blanks in the list, people who have promised to send me some pictures or Army lists but just haven't gotten around to them yet. So problem, I'm not going to be too strict on deadlines. I believe at one post, I replied that they are more like Undead lines. They can shamble around a little bit.
So I'm not going to be too strict on that, but if you have not already done so please send me your stuff and if you do want to participate, you can probably still do. So, maybe even take a mulligan, you get a one month that you don't have to submit anything without dropping out of the challenge. You might want to use it for your very first month of October. Let's see if we can get past 80 people. Participating and if not, then I am really happy with the 80
people. We have so far, now, when I posted up this, this list of people and armies we had I believe about 70 just out of 75 participants and it was at this time that Matthias ads from, he was so kind as to pour over this list and take a look at all the armies and all the points value set. Had been submitted now not all Army lists have their exact points values listed but he did tally them up and he got to a grand total of almost 160,000
points. Now we do have some more army lists that have been added since then. So I am sure we can reach at least 170 maybe 175 thousand. It's that have been pledged for this Challenge. And I'm not sure if that is including, or excluding people who have submitted bonus content, the most entries at this point, I have been for Orcs and goblins with 15 entries.
Chaos is in second place with 11 entries and that is just chaos in general or chaos Mortals. I believe I do demons are also included Beast. Separate. There are also two beastmen armies, mine included. So in total points total blanched those to the top two is reversed chaos is in the lead with 21,000 points. That's going to be over 25,000 points.
If you include the beasts men that have been pledged an auction companies are in the second place with 17,000 points, almost 18,000 We have a just about every Army represented, the only thing that off the top of my head was missing were the over kingdoms from the 6th and 8th Edition. Those have been added. Now, I decided Well if I'm going to do the challenge and I do like to have everything represented, I might as well paint up 1,000 points of ogres, and that's not going to be too much.
I decided to do a Greece's goal to, to is over. That's a 50 points all by himself and six addition and a couple of man-eaters. I have all the six, different varieties. So I've been prepping those and if I do one model a month, then that will be more than enough to fulfill the ogre needs. And I do believe somebody else. Also wanted to add some ogres as a bonus. So, everything every Army, every faction is represented. We have every Edition from third through. 28, we have a couple of
fan mate editions. We have a war hammer, rennaissance Army, at least one that I know of we have a war. Hammer arm is Project Army. So yes, I'm really looking forward to all of this to seeing all your beautifully painted models. Thank you so much everybody for participating and I wish all participants and probably also, especially I should include their families here because it's going to take a lot of time. I wish all of you.
They're very Best of luck with this Challenge and I hope you will all have a great time participating. First of all, I do want to say thank you for having me, and I can quite easily say, I'm a big fan of the show. I think I've gone through the back catalogue. Now you're driving to and from work on the old podcast and absolutely, absolutely love it. So, keep up the good work and the community is fantastic. Everyone's everyone's really welcoming and it's a real nice place to be.
For those of us who like this sort of side of the hobby. Old old night is style stuff. So yeah, no fantastic work Josh. So in Fan Room, absolutely brilliant. Speak that early to part of its or so to speak. Yes. So how do I get into the hobby? So I love this question and it's like, I think you start with this nearly every single interview you do.
And it's what I like about it is kind of a bit of a leveler, so it doesn't matter whether you're a, you know, you're a gaming hero or you're someone like myself, who Just likes to play a few games, we've all sort of got the very simple beginning into the Hobby. And yeah, I was thinking about this and I think what actually brought me as a hobby and I think okay yeah, there's things like he requests and stuff but I think initially, it's silly things like playing Lego and I
was always, I think I was always a little bit different to other kids. I didn't like smashing, like Lego around. I liked creating it with Plays with my castles and stuff like that.
So I think there's a gene that we all have that but that once you find the hobby you know oh my God, that's this is it, this is it for me. So I think the initial startings would have been that sort of thing just of playing with toy soldiers and and Lego, but to get it actually, into the hobby, it wasn't really until I was about. Well, I say I was about eight. 49 and I was around my cousin's house and he was like, he said to it, he was saying to me and
my little sister, right? We will play a game and it was, It was heroquest obviously, like most people. So we had this game here because but that, that didn't sell me. The did not sell me. I loved it. I wanted to play it but you know, I could have taken, leave it, it wasn't till next time was around my cousin's house and he got Out epic Space Marine, the the second edition one, the block, the blue box. And I was just like, wow, it was like a mind-blowing moment. What the hell is this?
And from there really, I never really looked back. Like, as soon as I played that game, I badgered my mom. I know I need this game. I need this game. I need this game, and I've got it that Christmas. And in, from there, it then took me into 40K because obviously, you See the nice. Big of Marines as oh yeah. But that that looks even better. So they're moved on to 40K.
So carried on going until I was about to know, I think like everyone you sort of stop when you get to sort of a sort of like 15 16 and I stopped playing actually Josh. Oh I was going to. I was going to say that. Me and yourself may have met in a previous life and their well yeah. So back from injury now. Yeah, back in nineteen, Nineteen Ninety Four, which would have been For really a year or two that I got into the hobby. So buying my forgetting, my first epic kit.
We used to take sort of trips to Luton. Oh yeah. To loosen store to, you know, God loot have a nice happening. Hopefully survived from down the street. Yeah, exactly. So we're gonna head with my mom. I go there with my mom. To the on Dale censored. Remember the Arndale Centre? My I don't remember anything. I just remember. I vaguely remember that store? Having a psychic Psychopathic
manager? Yeah, I think he needed knuckle dusters and like you know like while it you know in a safe or something like when you're walking around looting that I just remember, being at like a rough Place. Sort of, you know, the back end of back end of the world. Sorry, people live in Luton, but I know, I know I don't consensus of. Yeah, I'm a friend. It does. I think it was voted Britain's worst town for a really was about 10 years in a row.
So yes, this is really and sorry to divert from what you're saying, but I don't know. Let's carry on. Please was under the guy who was managing the store when I got there was a really, really nice guy. And of course, he got the axe because it just wasn't performing well because he had no people in there is no one coming in there. So they brought this head kicker in. And I think I talked about this
before. On else might have been some, well, I think the guy who is in Japan here, but yeah, we had some really psycho Irish guy turn up and out. It's a whole story behind that probably went to that before but yeah, that's that they were sort of like the horrifying moments of working in Luton and thing. I was going to lose my job and then all that kind of stuff. Yeah. It wasn't a good placement. No no it's worth tell us have how many ways I can't be for sure.
What we Met. But I'm just feel, I just feel the timings gonna just almost in perfect. So yeah, I would have been about sort of 10 or 11 and we'd go into going to loosen to should the moment. My mom would go into in scared, do to be a shopping and I do with her me and my sister go with a. We should take us to the GW shop and I think quite often should leave me there. Well stir, she's going around shopping and I'd sort of proves the shop and maybe kind of
partaking in a game. Or something like that. So it could be very, it could have been the case that you were potentially even putting on that game. And I was standing in the corner being a bit shy. And then I'll probably the guy sitting behind the Paint. This painting miniatures. Make, that's all I wanted to do. I did, I was not interested in the customers wasn't interest in the games who I want to do is paint Miniatures. If you did see like a two-headed cows dragon and the in the
cabinet, I painted that. That's the I can remember painting the last thing I painted there. Actually, before I move on to the studio. But yeah. Yeah, y-yeah that's, but yeah, it's just this is a small world. Isn't it just as well? So, yeah, that's my little when he do there for you but we may, we may have met someone like you. What you want? Yeah. Don't get it from action. Start buying you. Yeah, it was some pushing Australia where you want these.
My you want these, you want these Hawks, you know, lookin a little funny? Yeah. You want those? Well, how much money? But ten quid. Yeah, you'll get two packs. There you go. That's it. Brilliant. It will probably assholes back in those days. Oh my God. I mean, I remember being quite shy and not really getting involved with things in the shop that much almost sort of. I don't think it's scaring me was like, no, not the right word, but I was very sort of standoffish.
I don't know. I don't know anyone. You know, so it's what? He's a very funny. E environment, some people thriving it and I found that as a kid I didn't. But, but at the same time I think that, you know, my my own looking at life is changed a lot since I was a kid obviously. So if I was to take my time again, I definitely would have made more of that opportunity, but because I go into stores anymore, so I don't do that sort
of thing. But let's, let's be honest, Johnny. But going back into the like if you went to a game so we have stored during that era, especially. Yeah. People hated going there because you are confronted by Red shirts with painting smiling faces. Hey, you going, you know? Welcome. Yeah, we're today. You know, that he and I think that's what's getting, you know
what I mean? Yeah. And yeah, it's so intimidating that and big time I hated doing it. And that's one of the main reasons why I just didn't want to do it anymore. And I'll get my got moved on from the Oxford store. All of us. Yeah we all got recycled out and basically I want a new fresh young faces in there were like full of energy and enthusiastic and you know. Yeah, no, I know. All right. The graveyard shift, who no one goes here. So dear. Yeah. Yeah. I think you're right.
I think I think as a kid that was quite intimidating as at the time but yeah. Anyway, so moving on I as, as always you get to a point where you, you know, you meet you. If you find drink and girls and all that kind of stuff. And if you're wrong, bro, I'm he's maybe this isn't the cool thing to do to meet people. So I sort of packed in I guess for Affair was must have must have stopped playing.
When I was about I don't know 12, 14, 13, 14 and packed in all the way up until relatively Fair quite recently. It was about 20, 25 26 so I had a big time off. And then came back into the game. I think, I don't know why. I think I'd met my now wife and we've settled down. Got a house and I thought, you know what? I just fancy. I think I must have see a video YouTube video and its partners are God. Yeah. I loved, I'd love doing that. What, why did I stop?
And I got I myself started looking online, and at that time, I only, I only knew about Games Workshop. I'd I didn't know about any other company, I just because that's what I did. I didn't, you know, I didn't think there'd be anything else so I sort of with Google Games Workshop and I was looking at the things, okay? Okay. Yeah, I kind of remember, it doesn't. Look there's that exactly the same, the logos changed and this that and the other and looks a bit grayer. But yeah.
Okay, so I went out and bought myself. Some Marines was back in the day when I was a kid. Sorry, I didn't really talk to explain very well. Obviously got the the say that the fur 40K got to the second edition box set as a kid and I all I had a massive love for blood angels as the for whatever reason. That's I just it was a Space Marines they caught me they got me with that Space Marine thing and I thought yeah I'll do another blood angels Aamir. I did it and I didn't finish it.
I love to do that again. So I went out and bought sort of I guess the not the old Marines but the The sort of new plastic marines that are still small ones and built up a little blood, Angel Army and went to a gaming Club, in Bedford and carried on and started. They're just playing for a bit and I really just want enjoying 40K is just a bit, I don't know. Something wrong with it was weren't this. It won't what I remembered if I was on, if I'm honest with you,
just a bit boring. I can't put my finger on it. I think Nostalgia had a disappeared from the game. Yeah I can't put my finger on it adds that you weren't running with it very well, but a good good friend of mine, scruffy Crow James from scruffy crowd and if you know him, he's one of the one of the channels that I do a lot of things with. I met him at the club and he said, well, why don't we try war machine was like, what the hell is war machine? I can Annex, I didn't have a clue.
There's any other companies out there and he Sort of show me, I wasn't. Okay. Yeah, that's not bad. So I got into that. We've got really heavily into war machine and that I think that really sort of sparked my enthusiasm in getting back into the game, because we started doing a lot, more serious gaming, even went to competitions, which I learn, I am not good at competitions. I do not do that.
I'm definitely a Fluff man. That's horrendous had one game and I was living off topic, sort of all machines or went, it's one game where I put my models on the table. The guy took his first turntable He has like, no, this is not fun. Wait, why am I even here? So anyway, so we did that with a paper machine until the we got to the end of 2nd edition of War Machine in turn into Third Edition and it just ruined the game. And also how God, you know, where do we go from here?
I don't want to play Third Edition, and at the time, I didn't mean it, you don't really think about playing old games. This isn't that weird? It is. Isn't that the strangest thing, right? Why do I need to play the new addition? That that it It blows my mind. Now I do now, I do baby old games, it blows my mind though, for I used to think. No, no, I can't do that. I've got, I've got give this one
but for it would have been now. Let's toast such as such a weird concept, what, my just carry on playing it, but we did, we stop playing War Machine. We thought, no, you're not doing Third Edition, we're going to, we're going to move on to something else and actually, by that time, the, the gaming group started to spend a little bit anyway and I was playing less there and more at home. As thing, you know, things change. I think I hadn't had won my
first kids and stuff like that. So you know, life changes. He gets a lot harder to do the hobby because of things like that. So I was looking around for things to do and through just sort of YouTube watching it stuff. I got really into historical gaming, so I started doing Napoleonic. So if you go to back to my channel, my early early videos, it's all about historicals, and it's all about Napoleonic and
stuff like that. So you Black powder and black powder is basically War Master. If you didn't, if anyone sort of knows, it's obviously this again by Rick Priestly. So there's the there's the connection there. But so I got really going to that and also sort of some small-scale historical gaming so sort of six meals and 10 meals. So yeah, I did that for a little while and then again that just
wasn't scratching the itch. I and it was at that point when obviously us The EG, but we will talk about YouTube in the bit and then I, I think. Did I? That's right. I found my epic stuff in the Attic that has that magic was like, yes, the attic. I know I was rummaging around and then it was like, oh my God, I love this. What, you know, and I brought it down and it's all dusty. Know it was all horribly
painted. And I thought. Yeah, you know I'm gonna I'm just going to paint them up and just doing or call me. I never did an origami and so I did. So I got it down. Got them all washed and barfed and took off all the horrible basic material that I used back in the day and sprayed them all up black and then went back up back over him. And that really got my sense is going for that sort of 90s. Nostalgia was like, I'd now I'm really enjoying gaming again.
So, I'm loving this, we're not just playing painting. These little guys got a game in as well, which I actually recorded and haven't played since then, which is annoying because Graham, the guy I played with moved away to Bristol. So it's quite far away. So but we are have been chatting and we're going to get another game in soon because it of an epic is by far. One of my favorite games I've ever played. Just like, I mean, I you say all the time it's it's a very simple rule set.
But it's also got a lot of tactical abilities to the game and also a lot of fluff as well which I've like, so it's kind of got the best of everything and you can get this Grand scale of armies. Yeah, everything about it. I was like yes, this is brilliant. So I started building up my orc Army got that, got that all done. And then once I had sort of finish doing that over, haven't really feel like I can add to it, I guess. But, you know, I'm a, I'm a
hobby butterfly. I can't do the same thing over time, so Then I started but then that's when I met make yourself on YouTube, I found your YouTube channel going and the York's your space walks and I was like, wow, these look fantastic and like yeah, why don't I do a second edition Army? I've done is I've done an epic thing, that's do a second edition. So then I started, you know, on eBay and all these different things trying to find some classic awk. A spacewalk models.
So of the era I like is the era just off the road Trader but going into second. Yeah, it's the models. They're so not necessarily the the plastic spacer blocks that were in the road Trader but the sort of the metal ones that sort of, they used to create the box art for the second edition. Do, you know, I mean, there was like a very there was a very sort of noticeable transition where it was still Road Trader, but it was going in and going into second.
Addition, because I think the transition between Road traded the second edition with a headlight. The, the armless aux, they just had the bodies and had like yes to make them. Yes, yes, I love those ones, the most. Yes, me too. That's that's my favorite era is very small error because they very quickly upgrade everything for second edition and if you go through the second edition codex book, they're all the newest a lot of more than newer Styles stuff or my tenure that the
second edition stuff I suppose. So anyway, yeah. So I got I got into Let's not get into that, Think Tank mainly been clinically because of because of your Talks video and to be honest, I haven't really looked back since then. So I've just been cracking out stuff for Eva 40K. I've just started doing a second Earth addition, Warhammer Army. So, it's two over. Its bitchy, I've already, I've already got half of it anyway because I play a lot of both
mark. And so I play Orcs and goblins, knife Mark. So it's just a case of redesigning my night goblins. I've just bought a load more to go with the unit, but I do want to try and keep it. So it's In keeping, in the Warhammer world. So as I've got a lot of models that are used for both Mark, which I'll just going to put to one side and won't use them for
for war hammer. Yeah, so that's so now I've got, so it's a case of cracking on with these two, these two projects I do and again, and obviously probably re re look at the Epic as well. Because I do want to expand that to be able to Cripple a larger games. So that's kind of where I am, ah, be wise And that and that sort of brought me and the hobby, obviously then brought me to YouTube. So talk to talk about you to bit
more. I think it's a fantastic medium to Showcase your your hobby Loxley. I got into it back when I was Doing something historical Governors is a guy called leontes 66 YouTube channel. And he just, he just does sort of the polio Onyx and stuff. He was a big fantasy player actually back in the day and just remember watching his video of his saying, if you've got a phone, And you like doing your hobby. Just just film it, but some words. Oh, it's off. And put it on YouTube.
Just give it a go, it's really good fun. It's like, but you know what? Yeah, I will give it a go and I did, and I haven't really looked back since and it, and it almost forms, it elevates. The meaning of doing your hobby. Do you know? I mean, Josh, yeah, it's sort of. I know. It seems strange that you sort of documenting everything you're
doing. But for some reason, it feels good to do it because you know, for me it's like playing the games, it could let people say, you know, what games do you remember playing back in the 90s? I have no memory of that. Yeah, it's all you want a very very scattered, you know, very fractured. So now I've got all these great games, I play with my friends at kind of thing on YouTube, which will, hopefully, I can download.
I can keep on my computer. I can, you know, hopefully it's going to be immortalized forever. It's kind of like a living Diary of your hobby, kind of thing. It is everybody. Indeed it and it is it's quite addictive as well. I think it's very hard now I find it very hard not to get to play a game and go.
Oh I'm just going to record this because you know that I guess more content and stuff like that, but it almost makes it a bit more enjoyable because you start then putting more money, maybe more fluff to the games and stuff like for a reason and also you paint These models, and then you either put them on the shelf or back into a lot of foam. So, it's kind of nice to do something that showcases are in a way that PE you can explain as well what you've done.
And if anything, I've if I could encourage anyone. Anyone on your, on your Discord server, to jump in to YouTube, I really would, I would wholeheartedly say give it a go because you'd be surprised how we actually elevates your hobby and how it for me. It's improved my hobby as well. In terms of my painting, my ability to sort of learn rules and stuff like that. It's just yeah it's a fantastic
little little medium. Yeah I need rations really good like for the community interaction like I say like rules and that kind of thing. They can pick your own stuff that you're doing wrong and that's that's always very helpful. I can be very encouraging, I do get spammed by law. Pawn on from know who that is, but everything I have everything. I had time. I post something up the very first post, like the very massive map first met, I think
I'll call sounds confident. It's some guy, some, some bought in Germany. Yes, pay me with boob, it's you know.com kind of your own is. Yeah, you're on his list clearly, he's hot, this basically. He's actually messaged me on Bloody messenger now, so there's no dear the title of that video. But yeah, it's a wreck put me off. Let me tell you now.
Brilliant. But I think, I think like carnifex says, I think you got it, you gotta just get that algorithm going, haven't you know, that that also helps a lot of this sort of thing, just keep keep liking and sharing all these Hobbies stuff. And and that's what you'll get on your, on your YouTube feed. But but it is a daunting thing
to get into and it is a fast. Treyton thing because unlike maybe, I don't know, I obviously don't have a podcast and you've been doing it. I think you've been doing the podcast a lot longer than your YouTube. Am I right in saying that Josh or the YouTube a lot longer than the podcast. She might jinx. I started off doing painting videos when the kickstarter for A Song of Ice and Fire King. Yes! Yes, that and I thought, well, no one's doing this.
So I thought why not? It does to start doing some painting tutorials and that's how it all started. It was actually called section 9 Studios original? Yeah, okay. Yeah. I've seen Seeing bits of that on your YouTube channel. Yes. Yeah. Surprisingly a lot of people who followed me with from Spain, I really don't know what the whole thing. That's how I knew Aang hell who does like the Haram a fanzine and a number of other people who should contact me through there.
Awesome mostly from Spain or parts of Europe. So that was really interesting because I didn't really have a connection there, but I think Spain's Spain has a really strong painting Community. They see Aim to there's a lot of fantastic painters from Spain, what you know, sort of golden Demons of. Sort of style papers. Yeah. Pedigree ask the word, that's the word I'm looking for. Yeah, yeah, definitely.
So yeah. Alright, maybe they saw, they saw your videos like warehouse this, you know, and wanted to get, get get in touch with you, but exciting time because I do know the hell's doing mate. I was in the first video is, which I've deleted actually would terrible because the camera was on an angle. So you had to create a crook, your neck in order to see it. What the hell I was doing?
Yeah, I mean, it was a whole learning experience, and I think you've probably learned that as I'm going through your YouTube videos. Now, when you first start about three years ago, yeah, but I'm sure there's like a massive inner upgrade in, like, your video skills. The way present things, you sort of honing into what people want
to see. And that that all goes goes into your, you know, your knowledge, and how you build up your, you know, your followers and that kind of thing, and it does make it interactive and entertaining and yeah. You know, you're a presenter at the end of the day. Yeah. It's your hobby. But, you know, you sort of want to make things You're proud of and that kind of thing. Yeah. No, definitely, definitely. You're right.
Yeah. And well would you know and that's something that I've been seeing in your channel a lot very recently. There's been a massive upgrade shift on your editing skills and just the look of the channel, I don't know if that's been, if that's something that's been conscious Treasurer. But yeah, definitely make definitely, I want to get better at it. It's a good. It's a good learning experience for me because Is I actually enjoy making the videos.
I know some people hate editing and hate making videos, and that kind of thing. I've actually really enjoyed it. Yeah, since I got my iMac, you know, I've, I've I first started using the the iMovie on this. I used to, I used to do everything on my phone, everything was done on my phone, my phone was my old studio. And yeah, everything on that. And then when I got to the by Mac, I thought, I'll God. This is terrible. Like I can't use this. I movie thing. It's just so different.
Yeah. So used to doing it on my phone and then I get startled. Look, learning, and utilizing the The assets on there and realizing oh wow actually this is a lot better and then having collaborations with Owen State and for example doing the voice overs you know enhance the production quality a lot. Yeah it's better than me saying. Hey how you going? This is war hammer, you know who this rule. So the slanging Aussie accent,
it sounds absolutely terrible. You know, having Olin having his presence and their the voice acting and that kind of thing, just made the videos, like it felt like an experience. I'm going. Yeah, you know I mean really made it really fun for me too. Yeah, big time I this is the change is been quite phenomenal actually. Yeah it's something that I probably need to work on myself more. I've definitely improved from the start from say the first few videos all the way through to
where I am now. Absolutely not yeah. But but I'm really liking your new, you new content and I'm really surprised that your org knobs video. Hasn't got any a lot more attention. So we need to get Get people. Yeah. Just like, you know, I've Got a Theory on that and I think it's because it looks quite a lot. Like my golf boys tight did, if you look at the two thumbnails, look very similar, right?
People probably like are seeing that because the gulf always convert 2.5 here to pointed to in 4k here. So that's yeah, yeah, yeah, it's strange that but that's it's really weird and I don't really want to overanalyze that. Like how many going south your control? It's totally out of control. I mean yeah how do you know? And it's like well you know I'd like to share Pete.
Maybe some will watch it and maybe we'll get over it like a thousand Keys views, like over ten years but yeah, there's really no way of doing it. There's no formula and I don't know how or who are very successful at breaking through the analytics on YouTube. Do it. I don't know how they do it but somehow they've done it. So yeah, it's a very, very strange thing. I mean, I've been doing YouTube now long enough to not to not like you say not to worry about that. It's it. You think too?
You do a video where you just half-ass do it. You just to do something to to knock it out and it gets free thousand if using you think blimey? How'd that happen? And then, and you do one, where you spend a long time, sort of sorting out all the editing and it all perfect and making whooshing noises and you got music and you but yeah, this is it was I love this and then you get 100 views using a hard. Damn, what am I doing? It's a very, it's very disconcerting thing.
I'm but I honestly wouldn't let the I would love to see more people from your community, jump onto YouTube because I for myself, I like visual things to sort of digest. Yeah. And I just, I would love to see more of those sort of things in your, in your YouTube part of the, of the Discord and a. I think really it is just taking the the plunge and doing it and not worrying about whether you get subscribers or whether you Get views.
And I think for myself, I definitely I definitely have been down that route of chasing subscribers and Views and start, and it's not very nice thing to do. It's not naive. I've given up on that.
I just yeah. I think if you, you know, posting on Facebook I gave up on all that kind of stuff up but because it doesn't really make much difference, really not really a thousand people could see that post but then maybe you know, two percent actually click on Because they are having a, you know, external links to go to and that kind of thing outside of Facebook. I totally understand.
I don't really do that myself so much only if I see it on the second edition 40K thing or old hammer or yeah, there's a couple of there's a couple of places especially if you're doing this with the 90s gaming content. There's a couple places that sort of allow it and and it is worth popping them on there. But yeah, spamming around the place doesn't really work. You just got to just do it it. YouTube really is. He's a bit of a marathon. It's not a Sprint.
I know it's a bit of a Critic cliche but it it does build over time and when I look at my channel, it is always moving. It's always building. It's never going backwards. Yeah. So it's a you put putting content out there and it really doesn't matter what sort of content you put out in a way. Because there's a little someone pick. There's that people out there that want to see what you're doing. And amount of people have had, just message me or private.
Teach me saying, you know, thank you for doing this is inspired me to do something, you know, it could be a painting video I've done or or just a showcase or something like that and they're like oh this is such you know, it was, it made me want to do this. It's made me want to do that. I think as a map people sort of talk to you like almost. They know you and and and tell you exactly how they're going to do something. Because you've done something and it and it's lovely. I love it.
I think it's a, it's a lovely communities, but to be a part Part to be a part of. Yep. Absolutely. So yeah, that's yeah. That's like I say so I'd love to see more people and you're on your difficult to jump, you know, jumping on it. And I mean, just just can't effects do it because I, he's a big big part. It's very secretive secret of mankind effects. Yeah, we don't always I'd love to see. We don't know where he lives. We just need somewhere in Australia, kind of things.
I don't know. I've heard his voice made so that's it but ya know maybe, you know it's totally a, you know, I think you do it off your own back and it's it is it is it do it if you really want to do it and you really do it. Some people do it for a while and then they get burn out and they leave it and they just don't never go back to it. Say is true. I can say, is true what you said there is perfectly correct and it sums up perfectly is that it's a marathon it's kind of like mmm.
You are you know your spurred on by in a people's reactions. And I think, and I think we can both say that we get at least 99% positive reactions. I don't think I've ever had a real negative reaction from anything I've done, which is great. So, now that's really mean even yeah. Yeah, no. The same. And it's, and that's the thing, I think most 99.9% of people on any of these forums, whether it t Discord, whether it be YouTube or Facebook, they're nice
people. And they just want to be part of the Community. And they want to talk about Hobby, they're not there to put you down and tell you how bad your painting is and your you know you didn't pay it. You didn't pay that rule correctly and know I think I think most people understand you just having fun, you're recording what you're doing and you're putting out there for people's entertainment and that's most people understand
that. So you're very rare, do you get bad comments and stuff like that? And I think the people who get that sort of bad response, Tend to be the bigger guys who've got like the hundreds of thousands, because it got obviously had so many people that you in that batch. You're going to find a few bad apples. Yeah. I mean for the for the hobby, I think those guys are really
good. They've got, you know, there was he got huge followers and stuff, but that for me, they're not sort of the channels that I'd like to watch. I do find sometimes are a little bit me to are a little bit fake but it's very, it's very the In values are so high that it becomes like, it's like a TV show and I sort of like the S, the guys who are really rough, and raw, they sort of just. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, there's yeah, well, mate, in Sydney.
I think the old Hammer guy. Yeah, he just keeps it real and like, you know. Yeah, just turns on the camera and says, a cow picked up space Hulk. I picked up, you know, Space Marine or whatever and just, yeah, you know it you know, and there's degrees of that where it's entertaining and where it's not and it's you know, I think you just got to That happy medium, I think people just
attracted to people. They find, you know, that, that entertain them for that 30 minutes when they watch their videos. And that's it, it and it sort of painting content. A lot of it, isn't it? People just do something on that. They want to see ya. See, ya, but ya, some of these out, these other big guys with the production is really good,
really slick really smart. And and you get a feeling of like when they do a sort of a 1990s or or second edition or a fourth edition sort of video, it's only really there for the view. The clicks and the abuses, not really. That's because they've got any love for it, and it comes across, you know, it does come across. And that's why I like the smaller channels because the love is there that, I guess like this is, this is a game I read tree again.
I think, when my on my search is on my YouTube, your channel is number one because the love that you put across just as infectious, you know, I want to watch that. That's that's, you know, we're ready. Your channels the best Channel or the slickest or whatever, or not, as the case may be, you know, I enjoy what you're pushing out because it's you've showing the world that this is. This is a hobby I enjoy. And this is why I love that. I fantastic, fantastic. Thanks very much for coming all
night. I know it's not really over there and yeah and you got up there. I go out especially For You Joshua and I see Thank you, and thanks in the in the show description. So, people can come check out your channel YouTube. Yeah, please leave, please go and check out Johnny's wonderful awk. Second edition talk project and he is fourth edition Army project that he's working on that. You probably spent about five hundred quid get to buy that box.
We are that kind of thing. I want to ask you how much did you know what? It was a cheap is cheaper than what I got it for. Got it for absolute still but it's, yeah, it's still yeah. John. I can't believe how good condition that is. Sorry, I know which one I wrap up, but I can't believe that Sprite is. It is in mint condition. Anything is wrong with. It is, the Box looks like it's faded British been in the Attic or something, but everything
else is just mint condition. They would have things are still in the pop on the, on these on the top punch. Everything out? Yeah, absolutely. I can't believe that. I can't believe no one else bid on it, and she even wants. Yeah, very anyway, anyway. Yeah, but more on that. Yeah. You if you, if you follow the channel, then you'll get to see a bit. Exactly. Yeah. The follow along. So people. Yeah, your YouTube subscribe and ring that Bell to keep up with any updates.
But then, you know, I'm sure you use, you're going to bring out some some hobby progress on, how you're going with the fourth edition. It certainly is, I will be yes, suggestion or project and then we'll get to hear about maybe how you went with playing second edition at some point in the future, you know, definitely, actually, I think the next video will be how I do. Banners. Berkeley people ask me how I do it because I do Differently to
you. Yep. You quite often used use paper ones, don't you? I usually photograph. Either photocopy them. Sorry. And then paint them over the top. All. Yeah. After all them out on paper and yes, because you're bad moon. Ones you free handed or CO2 or for him. They were, they're beautiful. But yeah, so I I do it slightly differently. I use very thin metal. Right? So like yeah, yeah, like the proper old school way, the zoo. Tomato puree bottles, he cut them, open them up.
They're perfect. Absolutely perfect for banners. And what's good about them is that they don't break so easy. They don't tear. Yes, but anyway, okay, watch out for the yeah. Watch out the one, the one, the one problem with them is you have to freehand with a paintbrush. Yeah, well that's yeah, that's all but that makes a little bit hard but yeah, it does and challenge Maps. Oh, yeah. That will that will be the probably next video. So keep an eye out for that just yeah, yeah.
Alright. Good stuff. You have a good day? Yes. And you you're not bright and early, so you can, I might go back to bed. Thank you, Joshua, thanks for having me. Okay, no problemo. Bye. See you later.
