That's all right. That's all right. So he kind of thinks what's happening in your world, man. I've been working in the middle of nowhere so it's been good to come back and catch up on the Discord. Mmm. That's for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You mean away working? Hey yeah. Flood flood damage zones of Australia. Right? Yeah yep. So I just wanted to do a bit of a recap on the some of the hobby projects people have been working on. There's been a lot.
Yeah my We won't cover every single one but as a beanie, an impressive amount of pictures and stuff updated on the Discord, which has been good. I guess the kickoff with Bry has been working on a space, Wolf librarian in Terminator armor and sort of giving us step-by-step project approach like progress shops and really really beautiful. And also you still working on that Horus heresy blood Angel sergeant. And I think it's just getting out of hand now because it's just too.
In its Lane, you've got this like runic patterning on one of the shoulder pads, then he's doing this sort of face, which is got like optic flaring around the eye sockets and the orbits. And it's yeah, it's mind-boggling what people pull off, it's just bullshit, you know, like how do they get so much talent, but it's definitely something he's improved on and just gotten better with practice and skill. Excellency sickening that and then Kettle trout posted up a
firmer warband. So he's always got these like really ancient models that definitely old Hammer era and this is a familiar well band and its got like a giant troll and a guardian Dragon. Definitely recommend checking that out that's in the hobby project section. If you haven't already seen it we skiing Wizards as usual put Hang up, lots and lots of content finishing off Stone trolls. I think that might be for a commission, like, every single scale has been highlighted.
I've mentioned this many times, but it's always fun to see them, but then he started working on Elder Walker and like a very Classic paint Scheme. I think I let you talk, I might be wrong and then like a mounted vampire as well, that he's been working on. Interestingly enough, the skin he sort of went from Greenish to now like a more Frozen bluish. So it's pretty cool to see that change. And he's working on T clueless as well that awful High Elf
character which is a nasty. Good guy, tree, man. And a massive Dragon, which is doing sort of like this beautiful yellow and green gem work on. Its looks excellent. Joe Guardsmen. He posted up one of the mid nor Sentinels that have the huge acts as a really cool to see some Rackham confrontation models being posted up, love to see it and he's working on a Dark Angels Dreadnaught. I think might have been something that his brother was also working on conversion wise
mustering of arms. Justin, he's always got loads of content and he usually comes on Peyton chat and has a chat while he's painting and working on stuff and we'll give you a little Snippets. I was saying like an awkward Lord on a ball which look really cool. He's still working on his Dark Elves and he was testing out the new shades from GW on some race card. They look pretty good. I'm wondering how how that's
going. I'm eager to see any sort of like updates Mickey's, been working on the 3rd Ed Crusaders. I think they're like a grey Knights, dudes. That was sort of a new thing for 3rd Ed and Marsha, he's been Working on dwarves as well as posting up heaps or battle reports in the battle report section. So if that's something that's because your fancy go and check
that out, I like that stuff. John likes old stuff has a really cool spider Rider. It's like a goblin on the back of the spider and O'Connor with Vern was really cool to see and crispy from wa working on day minutes. That's honest. Demon Army. Be coming along nicely. Be nice to see it. Once it's all completed, Magnus Tillman was earlier working on like puffs of smoke from like Cannon. Barrels and War Machine. Barrels is really cool and some awesome fences for like Warhammer.
And those Soul rank-and-file games, always calls it pop into the terrain section and see what people are working on more glum. You are, he was like finishing off dwarf machines and he's completed a huge 7. 1750 points to off Army. That was really cool to see Bob the Goldfish posted up some epic models and an excellent things like a plastic warlord. One of the first several ones that was a really, really classic Model. Excellent Marcel.
Finally finished his Panther nights and his starter Empire Army really cool old Hammer sort of aesthetic or people might criticize me for calling that old Hammer but for me it's all day. Johnny. Hey uh baseman and like a beastmen watch Harriet.
He was kind enough to paint post up like a painting guide for the Flesh on the Beast. Man, as well as the boers, which again, I don't really paint things like Calvary and boars and it was good to get a sort of painting guide, you know, in addition to having your video that you released painting, the horse with the barding and stuff, that was really cool. Now, Tramp has been working on these beautiful wood elves and he's got those Harlequin treatment models.
They're not something I really see in the Wild on the internet often so it was really cool to see something like that. They've they're quite different from what you're used to Tremont. Wise suno has been painting like this, really gorgeous two wolves. The I've got this really sort of crisp Style. It just reeks of like, sort of mid white dwarf, really? Bright defined colors, really like that.
And Owens been working on more chaos tools, which I like to see big fan of councillors, even though play Fantasy. Now, evidence side has been working on a regiment of renown. It's there. The spike can Commandos and he, he basically mentioned that. It's something he purchased may be back in 92 or 93. A has finally finished and they look excellent. That's all have a foil and
space. Crusader has been working on the old plastic hit Scouts the ones that came in games, like 200 attack and they'll awesome, he's doing them as Imperial Fizz. So really vibrant light yellows, which is always a color. I like purple and yellow and you've got me as a fan brush of resilience. Now I'm a bit ignorant with return. Ian, Characters. But there's you might be able to tell me who it is. It's like a Joan of Arc style character for britannians. Yeah. I know.
But I don't know what the actual name is. I'm sorry. Yeah. I don't know much of it is junk, especially Joan of Arc. Yeah yeah so he did that character and the Green Knight which I do know because that was in white dwarf quite a bit. And these again I'm probably murdering what that they actually are but they're like men-at-arms but they're on Horseback. They got the pie plate.
Stuff like that, the freaking awesome and as a completed formation they look just brilliant and he's also been doing some woodall's which look great too. Now, cutter has a huge Forest Goblin Army something really cool to see again. Something I rarely get to see on the internet a lot. So so happy to see him post that up. Very very detailed. Lots of character. Really cool.
Harrison's been working on Elder dire Avengers and they're sort of I don't know it's like a mix of old and new I really like them. Keep up the good work. Chris Snyder has finished off a few. Excellent epic orc. Formations is making big progress on his epic Orcs. The painting Styles. Excellent! It's really cool to see the formations next to their formation card from the game as well. Really, that's brilliant.
Imagine I'm also still working on his scales, a vendor that really nice, sort of bright coloring of the tattered, cloths to offset the brown of their fur, and Arch Stanton posted up some Demon. It's on steeds. And he recommends, a thematic, blue contrast and the new blue contrasts. And I think maybe a shade definitely something to check out because I know previously GW seem to have maybe cocked up blue a bit, but there's tried to
appease people. So maybe that will help the people that are in. The blue is a horrible color faction. Now, jingle son's. Been working on sisters of battle and not just the normal sisters of battle but things like imperial agents. Assassins support weapons like the tarantula, Rapier laser Destroyers. Shouldn't said to trenchless, Arabia has a destroyer. It's basically for big bloody guns on tank. Treads like Arco flagellants and Uriah. He's that really dirty crazy.
Preacher with a big shotgun and huge beard and for Terrace Millicent militia. But on Horseback they look really, really cool. Not something you see every now and then dr. The Viking posted up a battle rap now. Previously. We we saw pictures of it. It was these praetorians holed up in this like smashed up Village and there's a teacher needs attacking them from all sides. So he's posted up basically like a report on it, where the praetorians in the village, the got heaps of heavy, support
weapons, and stuff like that. To your needs are coming at them in waves, the turnings have no biomorphs know, sort of upgrades or whatever. Really cool to see, kind of like Zulu, but with praetorian xanterra needs. Travis working on Val, Helens, weapons teams and he's modeled them to be kind of like in a heavy sort of snow blizzard.
They look really, really cool, very, very sort of World War Two ish which, you know, obviously they're modeled after Russians, Captain crayon posted up and it'll do grab tank. One of the Falcon crab tanks. That was a really, really cool, very crisp highlights as well on. Black Clem has been facing down an opponent in Battle Masters. Basically his own daughter has fallen to chaos and taking a shortcut to power and use that to beat her old man in a mini
campaign. It's really cool to see updates of kids, playing, classic Milton, Bradley's games, you know, want to see that all the time, post them up. Lee Burns also posted a Manowar report, so it's good to see that people are actually using their painted Miniatures to play games and enjoy themselves voice turian. He's finished off. Of those mordheim pit fighters which is a really detailed model and really cool. Sort of, I would say between movie pink, purple flesh, Shades
rear, very awesome. Very are more time, Tom young did a huge group of beautiful rat skins and the Shaded and colored in a way that you don't generally see as sort of like Pink's Blues purples that kind of color or not Neon. But sort of faded and they look excellent like to see that very very cool style Captain Skyhawk and 3D Foundry posted up. Goliath Necromancer gang is now the difference being like
Captain scarf. Did a very classic sort of Goliath gangs for Nick. Remonda 3D Foundry, had some heavily converted ones from 2nd, Ed battle B and both of them look really good. Very different styles to Captain Skyhawks funds, have some very interesting detailed nipples too. You know, just to appeal to those guys out there. This Le Homebrew, Homebrew, space, Hulk Mission. So he's he's put up two videos that I know of so far. Check them out there in the
battle report section. I believe I could be wrong that might be in. Actually the space Hulk Mission section covering fires, been working on that coaching in from white dwarf 143 and is using that blue foam I think it's like a refrigeration insulation, stuff that really hard foam. Core stuff looks really cool. I can't wait to see some updates on that as well as in the battle report section. Masha has been adding fantasy battle reports.
I know I mentioned that previously but yeah check them out. It's lately within the YouTube Community people have been posting up all of these like classic battles of things like epic and second edition 40K and we really Spoiled for Content. It's that trip down, memory lane. That's right at your fingertips on YouTube. So I guess that's where I'll
leave my sort of update. There's been heaps of stuff like the crown of command challenge that gurchin is, you know, got his hand in. I'll leave that to you to talk about this. Yeah, no. That's that's, that's a good segue into what we're going to be talking about today and I interview because we've got GJ on here. We're going A double dutch. So we've got GJ from the Netherlands, and we'll also talk to one of the event organizers for the very first old hammer in
the Netherlands as well. So we'll talk to him as well later in the interview. So there's two separate interviews. I should say there's one word, GJ separately, talking about the chronicle, call up the crown to and that kind of thing and how to enter it and what what you need to enter and all that kind of stuff. We did post it up on on the Facebook group but I still have people messaging me saying Josh, I'd like to enter how do I enter who eye contact that kind of thing?
So leave all those links in the show notes. So go down there, you'll find her tian's email address, you can contact him directly and I'll leave links to the Facebook group or in the Discord. It's posted in here as well if you go. So if you go to the Discord and you scroll down, You'll find the call of the crown challenge in the community section. Just click on there and it should be it's not, I'm going to pin it right now.
So the rules be pinned up there and so people can follow along as to what they need to do and and how to enter in that kind of thing. So it's really exciting. There's been a lot of people talking about it so far. It's got a lot of interest, that's really good. I'm really happy to see that. That. So yeah, the more the merrier I say, and good luck to GJ in
running this event. So another one in the pipeline there for us. Now, apart from that, I've asked Chris Snider to be another admin on the Facebook group, so that would be great. If Chris can, he's pretty big in the community now, and that kind of thing, I think he would enjoy interacting. Of people on there.
So hopefully we can add, we can see some more either poles or just some really fun kind of, you know, activities or posts in there soon because that's that's quite it's growing quite it to my surprise. It's actually been quite. There's been quite a lot of people coming in and, and requesting to join the group. So I'd really like to see things happening there. So people actually interacting in some some way, but it's good to see some pictures.
Post it up there as well. I'll people's Army's and that kind of thing, so that's already Oreo really, really cool. So yeah, that's pretty much the flavor of this episode. If you haven't checked out the YouTube channel, go and check it out because we've got good Mike. My good friend Mariano Sanchez with his beautifully painted wood elf Army.
It's mainly Third Edition models, but there's been some wonderful conversions that he's done with like, you know, a tradition kits, and that kind of thing. So really, really inspiring to see. So I No, that's been very, very popular with people.
So I'm really happy that Mariana could take the time to come back and talk to us about it. And now, I'm sort of Scouting Around and trying to Source another heavy lead episode with someone out there in the community, I'm thinking now that the Gathering of Mighty painters has in its final month. We're going to finish that up this week. Actually, am I going to ask my good mate from Denmark, yet bear
to see if he wants to come in? And talk about his talk and Goblin Army because that's pretty special. So we'll see how we go. But apart from that expect, another confrontation law chat this time with the tenor board wolves when my favorite factions as Eric goes through and talks about law for them and some Community questions been answered. And we've just organized our games for our holidays because all Bond holidays happening in Japan. Next month in the second week of
next month. So, Man, pull over the organized, our games. We're going to play one will be a second edition 40K with chaos first Dark Angels, because now Paul's got a dark angel Army already painted up for that, which would be awesome. We're going to play some confrontation, which really looking forward to.
And we're gonna try to do. If we can, maybe try to play a big game of Epic would be 6,000 points with Gaskell, Tracker versus jarek Commerce or jarek because they had like special rules for those in the white dwarf magazines. I think that'd be quite a bloody Festival of Madness in Epic, if we can get that, get that off the ground which was pretty cool. And see if we can bring some
Warhammer Fantasy games to back. So I'm trying to get Paul to play math hammered like the the flail of skulls audition for that. That's a really really cool addition. So we hope to do that as well. And next month, we'll see some more Live Events like battle for iron Peak. I'm asking people to come on. And to, to play me remotely from around the world. So we'll should see, maybe scenario games.
I'm gonna ask dr. The biking to make another sort of the second installment for the campaign, the scenario campaign. We're doing the sort of far, I think it's called if I can remember that correctly, but something like that. It's been a while since we've done a good Live. Well, I'm a fantasy battle, so we'll definitely get that on the cards. But I think that's all the news from me mates. So, Again, thanks to the community.
Thanks to you kind of fix for bring us all the news this week and guys just keep going keep motoring on and keep inspiring us with all your posts. Kind of fix any closing statements made. Ya look just some keep up the great content. We want to see what you're working on. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it's, you know, relevant old Hammer but yeah, we love it. So just keep keep posting it up. Keep working on your stuff,
don't burn. Nowt, I'm looking forward to more chronic command double stuff, really? Yeah, maybe yeah, but can be on the cards with seven, been playing minigames lately, there's been too busy and I think everyone's like, you know, looking at the even the Discord, whatever I think people are just getting back to normality now, like, people getting back to doing real life stuff. So damn, straight. Yeah, gaming.
The gaming seems been, it's been good because the people actually playing in real life and I want to see photos of people actually playing games. That's the That's the objective here with people paint playing games with friends in the game stores at homes or whatever? Yeah, get your moles Out start playing. So that's that's the motto we are here. So anyhow that let's wrap it up.
Thanks very much again do and we'll catch you again a couple of another couple weeks will do. Cheers, thank you very much like I might take care. See you guys. Bye. Hey man, how you doing? All right. Yeah, fine. Thanks in the early hours of the morning there and it's really how the morning here too. Actually. Yeah. What was its to me? It still feels like yesterday. Yes. Middle of the night. Yeah, that's right. It's about what 1:00 there at the moment about their or 12.
Yeah, it is. Yeah. It's yeah. 1:00 in these. Yeah. We had to do some how she would say it calendar gymnastics to get our Time zones lined up, right? Exactly. But we typically in mind, so I'm really glad you're on. It's been a while since we had a chat. But yeah, I think last time was when we were playing matter. What I believe. Right now. Yeah. Well it wasn't that long ago, was it something a couple months ago? Yeah yeah.
So it has it going with the war games Orchard and all that kind of thing. What's been happening with that? Yeah, well I'm I should not be the main person that you asked this because Nathan is, of course, running the podcast and he is very busy with his schoolwork and everything he's taken up a audio-visual, I should know this like an unpretentious, some education, right?
And yeah, then he was then he went on to To to a company and for a work term and this company then offered him a job to basically edit podcasts for a living. Wow, that's all she said. Yeah, it is. But that also means that when something that wash your hobby, becomes your job, then it doesn't feel as much as hobby as
it should. So that's why Nathan wanted to You have a debt and the time issue and wanted to turn down on the podcast frequency a little bit, but he has graciously allowed me to step in. So I record some episodes now and again but he still has to edit them and put them out there. Wow. Well, that's what basically, you'll be hearing more of me on the podcast. I don't know if that's good news or bad but that's just the way of things at the moment. Okay, well, have to go check it out.
My I had to be honest and I feel guilty. I haven't actually listened to a lot of and I think it's just the case of just time and that kind of thing. I just had done at the time, much as the way the world is now that you don't have enough time to spread everything around that to catch up on everything. So, I really wanted to catch up on those 50 Edition campaign packs that you'd be going through. I think that they sound really interesting. So yeah, they were great fun to
do those So it's yeah. All right, that sounds good. Don't worry, mate. I understand these are busy times and usually for me when when I listen to podcasts is when I'm in the car or out from work or something. So, sometimes I'm also behind one to one and a half months. If I, if I don't drive that much. Yep. That's right. Now, I'll definitely check those out.
I'll leave a link in the show notes to for that as Well, if people don't know what we're talking about, it's a another podcast talking about like fifth edition type related will have a stuff. So and for yeah well basically any any Edition from 3rd Edition almost I guess. Yep. Yeah, cool. Okay that's excellent. But the reason why we got you on here now is talk about a special announcement.
Yes. Well, I don't know if it's a special anymore, because we've been broadcasting at all over Facebook. But yeah, we are going to do another call of the crown painting Challenge. And this one, I don't know if the people who are listening, if they are familiar with the color of the Chrome, what we had one addition during the early days of depend amick.
It lasted for a year. You had to paint either 2000 Point Army in a year or you could do do 1,000 points in six months and you could enter twice. Then if you wanted to, I had great fun doing that. I painted up some Bertoni ins. Somebody else as allies, not as much as I wanted to. I have to admit because well life sometimes has a way of getting in the way of your
hobbies. But yeah, it was great fun and I've also been participating in the Gathering of minded painters In chess, you are to Josh and then I thought, well, this is about to end and I would like to organize something similar. So I got in touch with you. And I said, Josh, would you please allow me to do a painting challenge? Well, basically, I do want to organize painting challenge, but would you allow me to use your branding which you, you
graciously allowed. So now we Have a call of the crown painting challenge Edition 2. Lets yeah starting in October. I don't know if I mentioned that already but It's a Sunday October. Hey, nice one or two. Where? Yes, yeah. This is purely for selfish reasons, because in the beginning of September, I will be on holiday with my family, huh? Okay good. Good timing mate, which I maybe shouldn't broadcast in case people find out where I live, try to get their hands on all my Miniatures.
That's good - excellent. Alright, great. So yeah, it runs from October to May Yes, than the previous Edition, we're going to do it for this morning's. And instead of giving you a simply, a 2,000 points are me to paint. I had planned on doing that initially but then I get some feedback from the community and they said well I do want to participate but 2,000 points and eight months is just going to be too much for me which I can
completely understand. So instead I decided that it would be possible for you to enter with basically any amount of points upwards of 1000. I think you should be able to do 1,000 points in eight months and you can choose the level that you want to participate in. So you can have a lizard leisurely challenge at 1000 points or thereabouts. A competitive challenge at 1500 points. And you can also enter a tea fanatic level, which is 2000
points or more. Okay. May I take yeah, yeah I'll take it. You're gonna be involved in it. Now I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people who who had joined the first one who pulled, maybe we missed out on the first one. Hooby hooby joining the second one. What's been the herbal overall response? So far might been pretty overwhelming. Why? I don't think overwhelming is to correct word. But yeah, I have been getting some Army lists already, some pictures.
A lot of people expressing Interests, some people still also holding off because it's still a few months away before we start. So, yeah, you don't know what what changes that are going to be in a couple of months. So I have had, I think, at least about a dozen people already sending me army, pictures and army lists. And I think at least twice that many people iíve written down as
having expressed interest. So, yeah, it's been coming in at a steady pace and I see more people asking about this on this chord on the Facebook pages. So it's, yeah, it's a pretty pleased with the way it's going at the moment. Goodbye, that's great. And now a little bit But this sets itself a little bit apart from the first one is in that you can paint any addition, and even flight fan-made type lists, or, you know, Journal type lists, or whatever it might be.
Yes, I wanted to be as inclusive as I possibly could while staying within the boundaries of Warhammer fantasy. And the reason for that is because well maybe some people have Miniatures from another era and they they simply can't get her hands on any of the older Miniatures. At least. Not for a reasonable price or maybe they only play 8th Edition but still want to to have this incentive to paint their armies. So that's why I wanted to be as inclusive as I possibly could with additions have no
restrictions on that. The only restriction is that is going to be, it's going to have to be a regular Warhammer fantasy. I had One guy messaging me asking if he could do 10, mm Miniatures. Apparently, there are people out there II. This was all new to me who are playing Warhammer regular Warhammer but with 10 mm Miniatures and I just have no idea how that would work in terms of points or unit, or unit sizes. So I said, yeah. Sorry, Maids. I I just don't know anything
about that. So I'm going to keep this challenge just why I'm a fan. To see, which is the the main game that I, that, I know and love and that's something that I can I can cope with and if all a lot of other games or maybe 40 k or something would have been added, then I just don't know enough about that. To say, what is this? You can do in this. You can't hmm. Okay, that's good. Yeah, it's nice that it's inclusive. I mean, little bit snobbish.
Last time we said only, you know, like 3rd 4th, and 5th, edition models, were allowed to enter or not split, not really, you know, we weren't being like inquisitors about it, but basically, it was, it was obvious that, you know, we'll try to keep it to a certain theme much, like the the Gathering of Mighty painters which were involved in now, it's
like strictly forth. So a lot of these paying you can do painting, competitions, have a very Sort of guideline as to what's called a models are acceptable and what's not? But yeah, it's good to see you doing something. Pretty inclusive of all the additions. So I think that's stirred up a lot of interest among people in different groups. I know someone reposted this and shared it on the it's in Australia. They've got like a 6th Edition group there.
I think it's called Bel Melbourne, hammer or something like that. But I know the guys who run it. And they shared it there so you might get ya like a good International spread of people joining in and supporting it might because yeah I'm sure they've got you know, various different armies from different editions that they want to get on the tail. So yeah it's really good to see now. If they want to contact you how would they go about that mate? And there are many ways you can
try to contact me by the thing. The easiest to are on Facebook My, my name is reaction from Hook there, which is probably, if you're not Dutch impossible to pronounce an impossible to find, but I am active in the crown of command podcast community group. I am also on this court on the current command this court so that there are two ways to reach me. And I'm also for the course of this painting challenge. I'm going to post all the progress, big. Teachers and army listen.
Everything going to use my own hobby block for that and that's GJ's Workshop taught wordpress.com and it's yeah basically the abbreviation of my first name GJ with the possessive s but it's all written together. So gjs Workshop dot wordpress.com but we could probably put it in the show notes as well. Yeah, sure. Yeah. Also my Facebook handle and stuff like that. I'm also on Instagram, but I don't think that's the best medium for me at least to keep track of army lists and
everything. But if you do have me on Instagram and it's also GJ's Workshop, you can just contact me and I'll probably be able to include you as well. Go back. I just sent me all those all those links to all the places where people contact you I'ma cut that might like they can contact me as well and I can just send it on to you. If they have trouble contacting or finding somebody about to get in touch about the competition or whatever. So they can, I can I can direct
them onto you from there. So, it looks pretty exciting. Now, when when, when it starts and people start submitting entries and that kind of thing. Now, you mentioned a Blog and I saw Suggested this to you. Yes. Yeah. Because like when we did ours, I had like videos up and that was it basically just a videos and people could see them post it up in various different Facebook groups, and that kind of thing in our Discord. But simple, I simply just do not have the time to do that now.
So I thought, what's a good idea? What the Gathering Monte Payne is did with having a dedicated blog. People can write about their entries and I think it's a much better way for people to interact and find out and have it like a dedicated. At source where people can go then and find you know, not only the entries for that month but all the other entries and all the other blog posts and all in one place. So is that the kind of idea you have here make for that?
Yes, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Except that I, what is it still my my own personal hobby blog, as well, which I sort of did not do much with after I discovered Instagram but so the All of the crown, boasts might be interspersed with other hobby posts that have nothing to do
with the painting challenge. So yeah, I hope people will forgive me for that but to start up another website for the the challenge that I'm not sure if I at this time I cannot say if I am going to do this simply as a On off or maybe as a recurring event. So it felt a bit unnecessary to just create a whole new website for that. Yeah, might be a little bit lazy like that, but I also want to have some time for paying myself. Absolutely. My daughter the understand that
now that's fine. So, yeah, it's a really good cause, you know, like When I did mine, I was trying to hunt down all the photographs that kind of thing. It was a nightmare that I miss somebody and they say oh you didn't include my entry for this month and I kind of thing having the blog it's like you can easily just exactly. Yeah, exactly. It's all a catalog of, you know. Yeah, of all these all the, all these entries.
So it's a much much better idea. And I think at the end, when everybody has their final entries, same with the Gathering money painters will collate all those final entry, you know, the nice big army shots with the paint with the, you know, Painted backgrounds that kind of thing. And put it all together as one big video. I think that. Yeah, that would be great. Yeah, yeah. And I do apologize in advance for forgetting people because I know I probably will, you will.
Yeah, that's that's going to happen. I'm not the most organized person in enough myself. I can be organized for for this kind of stuff, but it might Take a little bit of getting used to, let's just say like that. So yeah. Okay, well some very question for you. Will you be participating? At this stage, I'm not going to make. I'm sorry because I know you're very busy, it's just the time.
Yeah, I think for this, for the Gathering where the pain is I'm paying this, I'm really going to struggle to do this entry for the last, very, last entry for July, I've got five silverhielm high hopes to paint up. And, you know, I've had other distractions to other hobby distractions as well, which hasn't helped and now it's like the 16th or 17th is the seventh. Today of July and I'm looking at those thinking, okay, well I'm gonna have some got some time today.
I'll try to get the horses done and if everything goes well and I stay on track. I should be able to get those done for the end of this month and then I've got a, I'm actually going to school as well. So I've got that plus work and all that kind of thing.
It's been the gathered. Money Paid is probably, will be something that's probably my suited to my format so I can then sort of cherry pick and then select T', the minimum required for a unit that are like that, you know, one character model, one war machine, that kind of thing that's really sort of perfect for me for one hour for anybody who's like, really, really busy or tight on time per month.
So I'd say I'll be going back into the Gathering Mighty painters when that comes around again. Mate, yeah, grades, yeah, I probably will do. I had a lot of fun doing the High Elves and the and all the people participating are just So, nice and supportive. Yes. Yeah, we have a lot of laughs doing there in the dedicated Facebook group chat. So, yeah, that's something that I will. I will miss when this challenge has finished. Yeah, but I can't believe it, you know, this is the last
month. So, yeah, it's been an hour went by so fast, but we know we have the advantage of sitting back and looking at out cabinets. And looking at all, those nicely painted models. Idols we've done. Yes I'm really really looking forward to getting the high heels in the table and actually playing a game with a you know a fairly decent sized Force. Now I suppose you're your this in the same way mate you know you want to get your money's on the table and start playing with them.
Yeah there's still reason for painting course yeah I also enjoy painting but I'm more of a quick and dirty type to get them on the table and not the every metal golden demon winning kind That you yourself are. Well, I wouldn't want to go to that extent, but yeah, I'm getting there. I'm getting them done to. Well, if was getting their models done to a place where they really happy with it.
So that's the main thing. And there's also something that people have been asking me about like when is a model finished. And yeah, I must finish. My you say it's finished and if that means it's just all flat color. No highlights. As long as it's not bad, a metal or adjust undercoated. Sand. Preferably also with the bases painted, but what if you keep your bases black, then if that's just styled and yeah, I will allow it. So it's going to be very relaxed
about this. It's it's just an incentive for people to, to get painting and to get Doing this stuff together because I find that this really good motivator. Is this for me? It helps if I have deadlines like an upcoming game or that line for the month is nearly over those things will really help me to get my Miniatures done and I know that there are a lot of people out there who I'm going to say this. Who have the same thing, the same experience. So I sometimes I just can't find
the right. Correct words in English. So there's some some Dutch Expressions that a lot but that Expressions, you can say. Alright. I love those. I'll say yeah. Well sorry about that now. I just lost my train of thought, it's okay. It's alright you do well by you do, will it derailed? It crashed people are screaming. Are now. Yeah, so so know it's just just a way to get your armies paint it and to do it together. That's I think that's the main main aspect of this challenge.
So, yeah, it's not a competition. You can't win anything. There will be no prizes for best painted or almost Miniatures painted. It's just going to be the price will be that by the sea. Summer of next year, you will have painted at least 1,000 points worth of Miniatures. And well, if if that means to you is just going to be a chaos Lord on a dragon to hold out with all kinds of magic items, a single miniature, and the shift 1,000 points, then then go for it.
If that means you're going to do a two thousand points of Clan rats, and maybe a couple of characters to to back them up then, Yeah, that's all so also fine. I almost everything is allowed Yes, it's goodbye. I think that's a great idea. And I think you know it's you're on the right track and hopefully and thanks. Thanks to you. You're sort of carrying on what we, what Jesse and and the other guys sort of started initially And yeah, the crank a very proud to support any kind of hobby
initiative in the community. So mate, I wish you all the best. I'm sorry, I can't join. I feel a little bit bad about that but I'm watching all the entries come in on the blog every month. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it as well. And I am sure that a lot of people are going to have a lot of fun. Just painting miniatures. And I've seen some so very nice and then Silly Army ideas, already being entered, some nice converted Miniatures as well.
So yeah, a lot of people are I think we will be having a great time doing this Challenge and even if nobody else does then I'm sure that I will good. I'm sure many people can enjoy this challenge. So looking forward to it, being waiting for something to come up. They always say when's the next challenge coming, so this Is
their answer. So, if you haven't heard about this, please go to the show notes, all the podcast, and you'll find some links there, we can get in touch with DJ and find out more about it where you can submit your lists and that kind of thing. Otherwise head over to the crown of command Community page, on Facebook, I'll leave a link in there for that as well. And you can be directed to like a pin post where you'll find out all about the, the competition
rules. And that Anything the guidelines and go from there. Okay. Well do ju it's very very early in the morning they made some will let you go. I know you're painting your High Elves. Therefore this this month's entry for the Gathering. Why do painters I'm going to do some painting myself now. It's nice and bright and early before my son wakes up. So mate, I really appreciate your time today to talk all about this. Yeah thanks for having me on the show.
Maids and good luck beating your else. I only hope your son will give you a lot of painting time. I know. My kids, they like to wake up very early. So, yeah, no painting time in the morning for me. I'm more like person anyway. So yeah, it worked out. Great to do it like this. And I'm going to head off to bed now and you're going to start today. That's it back. I start my day bright and early and let's start. Let's start painting some high of Cavalry.
Yay, really exciting. Are you take care of yourself and we'll keep in touch. Thanks, mate. You do? Good luck. Okay. Okay, do day. Bye. Bye. Well, I have a lot of organizing experience in living history events. It's not my first event that I'm organizing. And in the past, the fairy fairy past speaking of last Millennium, my father organized, the two official games days in the Netherlands. 19, 898 and 1999. Wow. So that's interesting. Yeah, that wasn't cooperation
with Games Workshop itself. So well. And now it's an old timer events and we'll see where it's going. So she would you know I'm going to presume here that obviously you got into gaming through your father. Is that right? No, he's got into gaming through me. All right. Yeah, I started in 1995 with magic, the Gathering and Star Trek card gaming. And soon, discovered that the gaming store sold, all those nice Miniatures.
And from that it went all downhill and I bought a lot of lot of games then Play the lots of competitions and quit around. 2002 saw the lot and six seven years ago when I was moving house, kids were born and well I've so many chairs again. A lot of still hiding on the attic of my father's house. And I collected it all and start it again and well from The Edge. Well gone, well better or worse collection is growing and growing. Wonderful.
Your that one magic word, the attic and it's something that I've never had and I wish I did have because then I could have hope that someone has stored all those Lost Treasures of mine. My parents to put in loft or something but in the Attic or something. But yeah, well, I was I was surprised to find that he saved a lot, I saw the lot, but though, he well, after I get out of the house, he saved it all, and I was really surprised to find it all back, but I still,
well, I'm missing a lot. A lot has been sold for which I do like to replace and eyelid huge epic collection. I love to play the old epic games in Beijing, right? Yeah, Allegiance. Yep. It was all salt. When I look at prices nowadays from getting a getting a fairly complete box and thinking of the prices are so low that actually I've got a, I've got a send you an e-mail though because some guy he contact me through BoardGameGeek had a complete set of Titan Legions.
He's actually located in the Netherlands. Whoo. Yeah. He lived. He lived in Japan for a while. Hmm. And yeah, so if I can find that email and if he still What it might all get you in touch because it sounds interesting things for me. Yeah, no problem. Yeah, that's a nice connection there. But now, your father got into gaming scene, we're sort of taking a bit of a detour here, but I find it very interesting that your father got into gaming
because of you. How did that all start have that had? I become? Well, I started buying my first Miniatures just for the sake of painting. Well, that's ended up buying a starter box from Warhammer fantasy. Choose to play an oxy goblins are me. Build a large auction. Goblins are meet.
My father is a king model Railway Builder and he saw the Miniatures and saw the opportunity to do something different and help me with painting started his own well collection of Miniatures, the dark, angel Army, because you like The Lure of it and other Miniatures itself and that grew out of a huge collection of a Dark Angels Army and a legion of the Damned Army, which is now in my possession, which I'm very happy with score. Yeah, yeah. Yes, really. Nice.
Got a huge Army here. And he just enjoyed the gaming itself, mostly the painting. And from that, he well, he got to really acquainted with, in the world of fantasy, wargaming in the Netherlands. And, well, from that, it's just went from visiting shows in the UK. Throughout Europe and he came into contact with Games Workshop
on a certain moment. And we were part of a huge group in the Netherlands that played a lot of games, both games war games, and they organize events throughout the year.
And what one of the Traders and Armin Schwarz place, which I'm originally from, Drew the idea to well-organized a larger gaming event to promote War, gaming and board games in the Netherlands. And gives Russia started to get involved and from that on, they supported the first event not as the main oil main promoter and organizer that there were around and sponsored the event. And it was the first gaming day in the Netherlands. In the year.
After in Utrecht, we had a huge gaming day sponsored by Games Workshop and we had two and a half thousand visitors, even an article in one of the journals. So that's that was really nice. It was almost the same. We can test the opening of the first store in the Netherlands from Games, Workshop, and Amsterdam, and Rotterdam. So it all fell together, actually. No, that's wonderful. So you sort of following in your Father's Footsteps by organizing
this very first. Well, coming back to doing the old Hammer thing with the same kind of games and that kind of thing. Yeah, I came into contact with some guys like a jump on Earth to here in the Netherlands. Oh yeah TJ. Yep. Yep, he's a living. Well, a few kilometers from me. I came into contact with him and said, well, I've got a stupid idea. I just want to start gaming again. Not only painting.
And well, how about organizing an old Herman events and from that, the ball kept rolling and he was very enthusiastic. Some other guys, some the from the stair became enthusiastic so well. And I found a room here near Arnhem where we can host today. So, well, 50 people that like to attend, it starts small, but well, we got a During trades Alzheimer miniatures. And I'm really looking forward to it just to see. Maybe it's gross, maybe it stays this way. Maybe it feels.
I don't know. It's just a day, dedicated to the old games, maybe a little bit of nostalgia, feeling how it was back. Then, when we were all young, it's did you say, did you say 50 people are coming? Yeah, it's a moment. We've got four Fair, John has started to campaign throughout the day. We got seven, eight tables for the different games, like Manowar, Rogue Trader. Warhammer Quest that, well, we have 50 people, that we know of the that will be attending.
That's amazing man. 50 people, that's huge. Like for me, that's a big event, you know. Now what I have no idea what to expect in number of people. So I was really surprised that we have already 50 people and well a lot of people will be fisting throughout the day. What I B on the different fora and Facebook groups. So who knows? That's wonderful night. So you touch on a few games that we played there on the cape tables. Here. Like Manowar playing one request row Trader, 40 case, it's the
first edition of 40K. Yeah, yes, feet. First. The first, in the second edition will be played Warhammer Affinity first edition. Now then are these kind of like, demonstration game? As people just rock up and they just sort of participate, they participation games more than sort of War. I'm a fantasy isn't campaign. So straight, A student, and the rest will be participation games, people are invited to join the games. People are hosting them.
So everyone is welcome to come over and enjoy a day of old swell Old Town Hall style gaming, but that sounds like a perfect event main. Honestly, it Very similar to the Poland old Hammer event. It's that sort of kind of thing. Yeah, I had some inspiration from the Poland's event. Great. I've got the Nida. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Just borrowed a few ideas but that's the way they do. It might that's the way to do it. Participant him. I just fishing games people get
involved. Everybody can get to play a game on the day and that's the most successful outcome. You know, people get to roll dice. Have fun, have a laugh. It's a to politics.
It's about the Mullen and potatoes. yeah, well that's the whole idea, just to enjoy the games from back, then we were young, we had our ideas, we all romanticized it a bit over the last year's And just to, well, my main goal is to try to get a bit of fetch, a bit of the atmosphere back then when we did the huge shows in Europe, I did a lot of shows in the UK back then like partition which is a famous show and just to get a bit of that atmosphere over there, who knows.
And we were really lucky, there's a traitor in the Netherlands who sells also Miniatures and he's over there so people can buy Armies. Well me all the armies. Wow. Okay we won't we won't mention who it is because we will go by before he gets there to the Old Henry event. So yeah today and to pick it up, all those classic Miniatures a come over and see what they will be bringing, they have some specials already reserved for the day boxes with bitch old bitch just there to be grabbed
up wonderful. So maybe how did you like you've got into gaming through collecting the one of the fantasy army or Goblin Army? Is that sort of your favorite Army? Do you think is that the one that's sort of captured your imagination at first? Yeah, at first, definitely, it still has. I really like the alt miniatura shhhh, the look of fuels the Army. The rules were to Army, the idea that your whole Army can flee without in well one turn. I really like the idea I never Wait for winning.
Sure. Yeah. And just enjoy the game, is it still my favorite Army? I don't know. Actually, I don't really have a favorite Army at the moment. At this moment, I'm painting 40K, squats Army, which are really enjoy, because it was an Army. I really liked to have had back then, and it was very, very lucky. I could buy a large collection of Miniatures for next to nothing. I've really enjoyed painting, a new Orcs and goblins Army in the corona period.
But is it? Well yeah, really like still like the Army and I can't wait to play with it in October because it's been over 20 years ago I lost a few of the Orcs and goblins are me when I just offered. Yeah. Sorry. It's been that long since you actually played these kind of games. Yeah, like fourth and fifth edition, my last real game except for the ones I play with my eldest son. Whose only eight is well 20
years ago. Go. So, I'm really looking forward to Fielding a 1500 points Army in October. Well, I recently discovered the tomb Kings of Camry our army, which I had bought back then and recently unboxed to the shame of some clothes books collectors. Well, now I never was really an undead player but I like to feel if the army, so, who knows. Okay. So my that's great. I'm glad it's still a lot of down. So let's talk about the Netherlands in the 1990s mid-90s.
What was the gaming scene? Like then it was a close team at first. And one of the goals of the gaming group, we were part of was to get the wargaming to a broader view, broader people. To end. Well, I think we really succeeded in it when I look around. Nowadays, looking for people from back, then it's alive and we have some Warhammer shops in the Netherlands, official ones. So that's that's good. But the gaming back then was, it was a small group, I think
around. While small, what's more? I think around 1,000 people that were really active within the scene, but you always found the same people and tournaments. It's That was a really small group of people. Okay. And okay. Well, that's it. That's good. I mean, it's a lot more than I had in my local town in Australia. We had like, almost zero. So okay. How about a thousand? Sounds a lot better than having, you know, almost no people playing. I think it was around 200 people
that you have 50 to 100 people. You found its shame to ornaments every time, right? So, attic space. Bring your favorite game of all time. I think so. Yes I have no no Miniatures of whatsoever in my collection at the moment, but Space Marine was my favorite game back then, no one played it in the Netherlands, so I had to bring it over to the UK had some
really nice tournament sets. Well, bookmarks bar in Nottingham, it was always fun to go to, but yeah, I really like the fact that you play with a huge Army in which well, the Titans, Still. Well, I'm thinking that this year, or maybe next year, I will get a box and started all over again, but it might want to see. I want to see you do it. It's awesome because it is such a fabulous game and it sort of
just went under the radar. I think, even during the 90s, people just didn't pick up on it, it was just sort of overlooked in a lot of places. Yeah, a lot of them specialist games as they were, of course, a of called nowadays, went under the radar. I really enjoy playing Men of War and other game. That's only became popular after
it was out of the stores. It's almost as if, once they gone the popularity will Rises, you know, you know, well doing now, you know, they're now they're gone, they're not coming back. Again, the miniature lines are gone, the games are going, the people produce the games of left and doing other things. But yeah, we've still got this. We're still clinging on for dear life, to these old, wonderful games that were made. And matter war is a fantastic.
Fantastic game just in this box. Yeah, brilliant. Yeah, I really like it. It's not my favorite. It's one of my favorites and I recently started so dark and dark L Fleet no boys. Okay yeah let's do it. Sorry my balls I'll be hiding from. You dwarfs are next in line to be painted. I unboxed some sometimes. I just get a box from my attic and I've got some moving boxes left that, I still feel. Of Miniatures. What?
I don't have any idea what's in it and it just opens a box and I found seven boxes of dwarf ships, so they will be next in line. After I finish my lens Raider, for my squad Army. Brilliant brilliant, I love that. That's awesome. So now let's talk about the event. Let's go back to the event. Yeah. Now people who are listening to this, maybe in the Netherlands or maybe somewhere close by and Europe that can come over there
at that time. What's the best way of Contacting you like, you know, when is the event? Exactly, that kind of thing. Yeah, the events will be in income. That's well, small Village near Arnon. It will be held on the last Saturday of October, the 29th. And the best way to contract contact me is through. Well, our Facebook page that you can find on a Dutch all thermicon. And I've got lots of messages throughout the different popular Facebook groups like the old Hammer groups and Warhammer
groups around. So it's not that difficult to find it. I think I do hope I got my promotion right. It will be on the well, on a Saturday and it's a location. It can be reached very easily with well guard, and also it's a public transport. It's no problem at all. There's a real world station nearby and we will be there all day between 9:00 and 6:00 in the evening and we invite everyone that has something with the old Irma Miniatures or games every pre-2000 game.
Welcome and join or just visit. And if it's all careful, laughs, half a beer or coffee and just enjoy yourself. Nice. Mate. That's great. And what can people just sort of register on the day and they just walk up? And just is it if is it a free event as it like you've got to pay to get in or it's unfortunately not free because have to pay for the room but it will be seven euros entrance, which is not great, not too bad. It's Gophers our costs.
And if we have any money left, Next year will be cheaper it's and have any food on the day. Might have it food. What were you, what kind of things you cooking up there in the kitchen? Well, there are some bar so people can destroy is a liquid, lunch, lunch. I'll steer. That sounds like an absolutely wonderful time. I wish I could be there mate, but we're going to, we're going to relieve relive those moments with wonderful, photographs, on your Facebook page.
Yeah, sure. We will we will publish pictures. I try to make a strong impression video throughout a day and great life. That'd be awesome if people involved and just get people in to see a stick for next events. Our goal is to organize such events at least once a year, And maybe do well, if it's a success. Maybe, once in 23 months, we just do an evening of playing. There's a lot of possibilities,
like, people. Haven't touched Dutch Dutch potatoes, but like the top, like, fried potatoes and the Dutchman is, they just have to go for that that in the beer. I mean, that alone should give him a triple seven euros, make your in. Yeah. So there's always, there's always a great opportunity and a great excuse for sure. That'd be nice to his do J, will be their host hosting the campaign and he is doing a marvelous job. Wonderful. A flying fifth edition. Is he bringing a fifth edition
event? Yes, he was. He was trying to get a fifth edition campaign. Great. So that's yeah. Well, this looks promising. I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, that sounds wonderful man. I hope I'm sure this this will grow just like the old Hammer pollen event. It'll just get bigger and bigger and you probably get a bigger event home, run it and I think so there's we already inspired a group of guys in France and in Germany. So we're still waiting to have her own first events and already
we are inspiring other people. Like we were getting inspired by Poland's that that's the dream might having it having an all her been in each country. That's the perfect resolution to this, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, why, why have it centered in one, you know, obviously the bring out your letters, the biggest one, and you get to meet all the old crew of what you know, right? Rick Place Lee and yeah, totally aklan and all that. That's wonderful, that's
awesome. But of course, for many people
that's just impossible. So you know, do it yourself, get it, get it, organized in your own country and away and maybe, yeah, I do hope it's will be in every country in a few years time and well with game drug should be working on the old world for What It Is. Well, I don't know what it will be bringing, but maybe that's also inspires people to dug up their old Miniatures. Look for those old books somewhere in the car A bird and just start playing again yet.
There's nothing stopping people. Don't worry, dang it. Dang it. Hang up on auditions, just play the Edition. You like to play, I Don't Care What People Play, just enjoy a game and just relax. That's what it's all about. That's it, let's say that you got the right attitude and it's been an absolute pleasure talking to you, mate. I wish you all the best. Thanks very much anytime anytime. Really enjoyed it. Ok. So we keep you up-to-date. Absolutely.
I'll be I'll be falling at Facebook page. I'm going to put all the links in there that I can so that people can contact you at least or find your Facebook page so they can keep updated what's happening. So maybe if they can't make it this year but due to short notice or whatever, then they can definitely check out for next year to get along and and come down and say hello. If it's go like we expected will be going. There will be an expedition. Yeah, I'm sure Mike.
I'm sure of it. You got 50 people. I mean that's a massive success for me already. That's enough for us to go over there. Yep, absolutely. We might also the phone really happy to hear that, okay? Well, thank you very much again for coming to to share your story and spend time with us here at the crown of command. Thanks. Very much. No problem might enjoy the games and we'll talk again soon. We will thank you very much. Have a good day. Okay, you two might take care.
Bye bye. And to pronounce your name through a like a Google thing. I did it right free. Maybe that's why. Yeah because but all my English speaking friends. Me Stuart. It's Stuart. That's that's the one that's going to be your baby.
