Canoe You Believe It?Life was good for John and Anne Darwin. John, a prison guard by day, also had a side hustle with his wife Anne renting out 12 bedsits in the seaside town of Seaton Carew. In 2000 however, things took a turn when the couple fell into debt after purchasing two more houses in County Durham. As debt began to mount into the tens of thousands, the couple’s relationship became fractured. In March 2002, John turned to his age old passion for canoeing to provide a distraction from the stress.
