Episode description

A recent study has shown that up to 20% of floodwater on the east coast of Australia can be absorbed by aquifers, eventually getting into a 'groundwater superhighway' that stretches from Queensland to Sydney Harbour. What does this mean for the future of flooding and water security? To get some answers Cosmos journalist Ellen Phiddian talks to Dr Ben Mather, a Computational Geophysicist, at the University of Sydney. After joining the University of Sydney in 2018, Ben now works within the EarthByte Group and has strong ties to the Sydney Informatics Hub and the Underworld research group.
