#292 - Million Gold by Rabanne

I'm mike , I'm ryan . We're two best friends . We're going on a fragrance journey , smelling million gold by paco robain , oh yeah , and giving you that uneducated opinion . By the way , it's just rub on now . They don't go by paco robon anymore .

long ago , really , it's just raban , it was a rebrand . Wait , didn't he just die just ?

recently too , I think . So wow , fucking guy kicks it , and they're just like they don't even wait for the dust to settle .

God damn , you know who else is kicking up dust , who dior sausage on fragrantica . I feel like you've used him before .

I'm pretty confident you've used that one before because we were thinking that was a clever name .

Yeah , it was a very clever name dior sausage says all I'm getting is curry and bo wow , if it's that , this will be certifiably awful , yeah I just don just don't see a designer release going that hard . I don't either .

I definitely don't , no way .

I think that sausage is a little spicy and a little salty .

Well , before we get into the review of this , we've got to go into our one night stand review of african leather by memo paris hit the music , todd yeah one night stand review .

There is not . It's not a strong leather fragrance it is to have leather in the name . Yeah , there's really not . But the tiniest little . It's almost like the ambiance of leather . It's not even like a strong present leather no in there .

And so it was a little off-putting . But after we'd done the episode and then we recorded some video content which you guys have seen , the first bit of that with ricky , yeah , uh , shitting all over my Elysium Parfum bottle yes , if you haven't seen it , check out our socials .

So after the episode , ricky myself and a group of friends went and saw the new Joker film . How was it Different ? We'll leave it at that , you know . At least it surprised me , I'll give it that , okay . But the whole movie all I could smell was african leather , and I don't know if it was me or ricky , but I could smell it the whole time .

Now I pitched this to you and you were like I can kind of see where you're going with that . But I still have to say I lean to saying this If you love the dry down of Lunarosa Carbon To me it's like that with a little bit of menthol going with it , and it's really pretty yeah that's hard for me to see .

That's hard for me to compare the dry down of African leather and the dry down of Lunarosa Carbon . It smells so goddamn good . Yeah , the dry down of African leather is a little more boozy , it's a little richer . I get the richer part . It still has kind of that bite to it . It's a fantastic fragrance .

I was going to say I actually think I would probably prefer this over Leighton , maybe .

Really , yeah , yeah , because in your wheelhouse it is a little bit , you know , girthy . Yeah , it's got a little bit more girth on it .

I know how much you appreciate some girth so it's a strong sample to a possible buy for me , probably , actually probably more than a possible . It's a . It's pretty much like me . If I can get a good deal on this , I gotta chow down on it , dude .

Yeah for sure I would say it's not for everybody , so I definitely think it's a strong sample For me . I love the fragrance . If I ever just tripped backwards and fell into a giant stack of money , I'd make sure I allotted some of that for African leather .

To tell you how , let me go ahead and give you the longevity on this . It's been 48 hours since we smelled this and this card or this tester strip is still loud for sure .

Yeah , I smelled it , like I said , all night and that movie had to be three hours long , god damn are you ? Serious . Yeah , we got there at like 6 45 and I didn't get in the truck till probably nearly 10 o'clock .

God damn , that's a long ass movie , dude , it was .

Yeah , okay . Well , we don't want this to be a long ass podcast , let's go ahead and slide into . Million Gold by Raban .

I really do hate that they dropped the Paco . The Paco is the best part of the Raban , I agree . They just go together like peanut butter and jelly . I feel that , hmm , wow , somebody's trying to be with a certain crowd of people . Okay , tell me more . I'm going to tell you right off the bat it smells pretty good .

Yeah , I get that . I get the goodness in there . It's pretty good . I'm picking up the goodness . Yeah , now it is still kind of bubble gummy powdery yeah , you know , what's funny is some .

You know , I read a comment . I shouldn't let it color . Yeah , yeah , yeah , I shouldn't . But I will have to admit when I say there's a sea hair there . I'll let you figure out what that is Centimeter of hair , yeah . My brain's like thank God Mike bailed me out . But yeah , there is a centimeter of hair , yeah , of santel 33 .

Yeah , now that you mention it , I smell it . It's like a sweeter right . Yeah , the sandalwood really pops hard and I accidentally saw the notes , which there were very few , but yeah , and sandalwood was one of them sandalwood spices and then two others , I think I don't get what was the review that said it was like fucking curry curry and bo not at all .

This is actually sweet . I who , whatever dior sausage dude , go get your fucking nose checked out . Yeah , uh , yeah this . I'm actually shocked that it smells good . I wasn't like going in here thinking it was going to be something good you know , I'm kind of with you .

This is really nice .

This is really nice , it's sweet , but like it's not overly bubble gum , it's a well balance here .

you kind of unlocked it in my brain so I can't just pretend like it doesn't smell , like the words didn't influence me , because they did . But once you said that and I put the pieces together , I'm like actually pretty damn proud of this release Really . Yes , because you know I love Santel 33 .

I'm shocked , shocked . I can't say anything really bad about it . It's not mid either , like you know it's not like it's just like it did something average and we're like it's pretty good , right , it's a little , it's better than average I would say I think this is a lot like the new joker movie .

I came into it expecting very little and you got a musical yeah so symphony of notes . Just hit you yeah for sure and I'm kind of going like you know what ? Hey , this is better than the bad reviews made it out to be , you know let me just quickly get into the price and popularity really quick , please do .

Price 140 for 100 ml . I don't think that's too bad . I don't think that's bad . I don't think that's too bad . Popularity is a 3.37 out of 5 but only has like 300 something reviews , so it's , like you know , so kind of low honestly . Uh , review wise , like the like , the count , yeah , for sure , because it's brand new .

Yeah , that's like a passing grade , that's like a seven out of ten-ish .

We walked in it wasn't our typical young lady or young gentleman that waits on us there at this establishment ? Yes , but they were kind enough to give us a sample of this and a sample of LeBeau by LeMall .

That's right , so we'll be doing an episode on that soon .

But I'm going to tell you , dude , yeah , we walked in . They were just like , oh , this is brand new . And I was like damn . I was like you know , and there were so many Rabanne fragrances there . Yeah , you were like damn look at this whole counter .

That's right Like million and one million has like their own area because there's so many of them .

Yeah just gold bars everywhere . Which , Mike , do you still hate the design of that bottle ? I do , yeah , Really , you still just can't get behind it . I mean it's hokey , I mean the robot one is for sure , yeah , for sure .

I just don't know about all that . I mean , does it have to be a toy ?

They're both hitting me right now . Yeah , I can't stand either one of those . Even if they were good , I'd be like I can't be a grown man holding this and spraying this on me . Yeah , fucking teddy bear wetting my whistle .

I mean , the gold bar probably isn't the greatest of infringing yeah , but it's still . Yeah .

I don't know , not my jam well , you know what you talked about it . Fragrance reviewers hate it when it's this way , uh-huh . But let's go over the notes , because this doesn't have a perfume pyramid . There's no top , middle and base , right ?

I think there was only four things listed , four fucking things , and that's what drives us fucking crazy .

If you do this kind of stuff , you want to be able to tell people the top , middle and bottom . Do you feel like this has a top , middle and bottom , or do you feel like it's just a conglomerate of ?

just , it might just be that one note song that Joaquin Phoenix just carries out from the beginning to the end of the film . He doesn't sing the same song over and over in the movie , does he ? No , okay , thank god . But there is like a um , there is like a song that they keep coming back to is like the theme you know what do they call that ?

I would just think you're right on it like just a theme song for the .

There's a special word no , but we're not those guys either .

We're not educated film critics there's only four notes sandalwood spices , mandarin orange , cedarwood . You know , I don't know what spices , but I definitely get the mandarin orange in the sandalwood kind of vibe . Yeah , sandalwood is there , definitely there .

oh , so do you feel like you're getting that pickliness ?

just a hair , another sea hair of it I do , hmm , centimeter of hair there . Perfumer for this , by the way , was quentin bish , and I feel like we've heard dan the fragrance weirdo talk about this guy . Maybe , hell , maybe , I've even interviewed him . I'm pretty sure he did . But quentin bish , what has he actually worked ?

I think he's done other raban fragrances for sure and he's done lamal la parfum , he's done lamal elixir , laboe , that we got damn oh we got two bishes wanted by night , damn . So the guy's got a fucking lineup .

Dude , he's worked on some shit , yeah I just I know we say the tester strip doesn't matter , but god damn , it smells good , it does smell good .

It smells really good , I . I think it smells better than the skin , I agree yeah , that is nice . I am pleasantly surprised in this fragrance man , you feel like it's got you kind of uh , perplexed a little bit , I think so I didn't even know what I was going to expect .

Honestly , I didn't even give it a second thought because I was , like you know , another one of these right , yeah , we were like the , we were mid about elixir .

That was like the last raban when we smelled . Right , yeah , this is pretty good , dude man I'm shocked um .

I think this is actually really good really .

Yeah , I don't know if I'm there yet , but it's pretty good , it's shocking me because of my love for santel 33 .

Really , I think so . I'm like this could be a very appealing version . And do you not wear the other one ?

that much I do occasionally . Okay , yeah , and just to go back , why do you think this is a more appealing version than the santel 33 ?

it's sweeter , it's softer okay santel 33 . If you accidentally go a little heavy on it , it is sometimes a bit much . Okay , I don't think you could go too heavy on this . I think you could really get away with over spraying .

Really , you may be onto something . It smells good . Guys , I will say you know what we got to get to this , to get to it . Are you going to skip it , sample it or buy it ? What are you gonna ? Skip

This doesn't feel like you at all , not at all it does feel like you , though .

I feel like you could pull this off and I'd be like jealous that it smells good on you , right ?

yeah , but I couldn't pull this off I think that's how I feel about verdi redux really yeah like you , don't think it works so well for you and it's such a good smell . Yeah , yeah , I just don't know that I could pull it off . You haven't worn it around me yet yeah , I was expecting you to . Okay , I brought the bottle here for you .

I don't know why , but that popcorn is good .

It's so good , but they'll eat bags and bags of it . In fact , every time I go up to the concession stand , the ladies already laugh . They're like .

She's just like hand you a bushel of popcorn , exactly , yeah .

But we went and you wore it and you were just like I just gonna throw it on and see , yeah , and I couldn't stop talking about it the whole night .

I was just like man , I gotta smell that and you were trying to impress me with something that you know that I like that night .

Yeah , I couldn't smell it when and it's a loud one shocked , but we just kept coming back to that freaking soma fragrances really quickly before we finish this little bit .

Do any of you out there that listen to this show , do you have a friend that you kind of compete with on fragrances ?

because I know there's this undertone yeah , competition when we go out in public there is , yeah , for sure , we're just chilling , it's no bigs , but if we're , if we're going out somewhere , yeah , it's like you and I both try to show out and sometimes he'll wear certain things .

He knows nuclear and I'll just go . You're a fucking asshole .

I was like you really wore that today yeah , you do the same thing , um , but so on . On this one sorry going back to it that really worked for your personality . I kind of see a similar thing like this is great . Not sure if it worked for me , but for the right person it smells really really good and I think this would work for me I know it .

That will work great for you . It smells good . It's , like you said , soft , it's sweet . It's a little bit of the santel , but it's not so much santel 33 . Yeah , a little bit of that bubble gum , but it doesn't overdo it , it it's just right , perfect . And you know , we actually skipped this part , but it's like , yeah , who would wear it ?

I think it's a little younger because of the sweetness . So I may be right , I may be edging myself out here . You know , being a old man of 36 , I think this is more mature than high school . Yes , for sure . It may be right out of college . Maybe we're thinking 25-ish , 25 and up , yeah , but it may stop at like 40s Early 40s ?

Yeah , I think 40 is the hard cutoff on this one . Yeah , for sure , unless you're just the guy that works at the office . And is this an office fragrance ? Is this a kicking around town ? Is this beating around or I don't ? For me , I don't feel date night with this .

I feel like this is more of a daytime fragrance . I agree , yeah , I think so too . Yeah , younger man , definitely office earlier day , you know day wear out and about .

You'll have to forgive me today , guys , by the way , into you , I should have told you this I didn't have any coffee pods at my house today .

So I'm like no coffee .

I can feel the energy .

Wow , I'm so fucking sorry you look a little uglier today as well . Yeah , it does that to me . He's got like four extra bags under his eyes .

One of those old 40s cartoons . They have like fucking coffee , grime , fucking beer . They have like fucking coffee grime fucking beer and sagging Exactly Cigarette hanging out of my mouth . But no , you know what I keep while you're talking . I've just been smoking . This tester strip is fucking great . This is a killer fragrance , man , yeah it's actually killer .

Yeah , I'm shocked . I really am kind of blown away .

I would not have expected this . And there's been . Hey look , mason Margella did it with autumn vibes and it was terrible with that fucking trying to be sent .

Oh , that was hardcore pickle .

It was remember I was like it was like you had your hand around two cucumbers ringing it .

You've got some real pickle grippers there right For those of you that were able to stick for the end of this episode and actually get the energy . Sorry that it took 20 minutes to pay off here , pretty much oh shit , it smells great . It has honestly like maneuvered and feng shui . These fragrances , it's like . This are these juices and this is like .

This is a perfect one-off man Dude it's done so well and still very designer , but it has the twinges of being something more special . And I saw where somebody said and I don't know this to be accurate , so I'm just like throwing this out here and I could be spreading false news but somebody said that they discontinued .

What's the one that everybody shits their pants on ? Is it Lucky or Preve , preve , have we ?

I don't think so Interesting . Well , one day we made it , it went nuts when it got discontinued . Dude , I was seeing it all over . People were buying the hell out of it , really , yeah .

There was an obsession for a minute . So is this a skip at sample or a buy ? We haven't really said I think it's a skip for me , but it's a buy for the right audience member .

Yeah for sure , I think I on the edge of being able to wear this .

Is does feel a little bit younger , yeah , and more playful , but I would wear it some . Well , I mean , we got two things of it . You need to be the one I wouldn't say today , but I think you need to be the one where you come in here one day and you kind of surprise me yeah , I will , I'd be .

I'd consider getting like a smaller bottle of this , like a little like the squatty 50 mil .

I should have looked at the price . I didn't . I fucking failed you , dude , wow dude , this episode is trash .

I don't know yeah , they want to push you towards buying the bigger bottle . Yeah , yeah , wow , because I can't imagine other than the juice which would be a dollar difference maybe . Maybe the production of the units have to be so similar .

You can't be much difference I think you should wear this hardcore . With what we got over here , that's probably like four mil . Yeah , I think you should wear it . I think you we should go do something . You just wear it . I think we'd be shocked . I think you'd be smelling good wearing this .

The first time , because there's one called Quentin Bitch or Bish or something like that . Oh , really , swear to God , yeah , wow , I didn't know that . But we got episodes , yeah , and even steve is like on the fence and he's saying man , the thing that really , you know , kind of whets my appetite is the community in there , he's hyped on that and but you know , is this your time , steve ?
