I'm Mike and I'm Ryan . We're two best friends going on a fragrance journey , smelling brand new fragrances and giving you uneducated opinions .
Yeah , we're going to be smelling today . You ready , boys and girls . Oh yeah , ysl , y , little Ixler , lixer , why Lixer ? Little Ixler , why Lixer , why Lixer we were talking about before we got on here . It's got to be one of the worst names we've had on here .
They're just getting freaking crazy with it . That's not a French word . In a minute we're going to find out the origin of the word elixir . But first let me tell you what Alien with Blue Eyes on Fragrantica says about why elixir . He says new day , new elixir , and then Blank25 says this is a flat out disappointment .
There is so much this could have been that's just boring Way overpriced . Just stick to the others in the Y line . It sucks just for the potential it could have had . And that's kind of how I feel about you , ryan , a lot of times . I'm always like God , you've got so much potential bud , come on bud .

One night stand review . Well , mike , after spending the night with one Ode Moe , one of the nicest men we've ever met and you personally met in person . What do you say about Tariq ?
It's as close to a safe one by as you could possibly have .
I agree . We both had said that this was the bigger brother to a lot of wheat de l'eau . Ironically enough , by Yves Saint Laurent , it really is .
It's very cardamom forward A little bit more sophisticated , got a little bit more energy . There's a sweetness to it . It smells less cheap in a way . I'd say Not that l'eau de l'eau smells cheap , but in the episode I talk about a kind of fringe that that fragrance has that after a while you kind of smell it .
You wish it wouldn't be there , and that's just kind of a designer thing , so that's missing . Instead , there's this added like bubble gummy sweetness . That's really nice and look , you don't have to blind buy it though .
They offer samples and that's the best thing For sure and I also wanted to hit at this after the show . You know we go in here , we work on things . You know what I'm saying . Yeah , we have other side gigs .
This fragrance I think in the episode I didn't think it was as loud as it was , but afterwards it is really loud and like a real soft , gentle way . I don't know how to explain that . We've had a couple of fragrances that have done that from time to time and people have actually called me out like it's soft but it's loud . I promise you that's a thing .
Right , it's like a pillow , if I can swing it hard enough to knock you off your feet . It's technically soft .
So we both thought it was a buy a hard sample to a buy For sure .
Yeah , Again , we don't encourage blind buying , but they offer samples . We're big proponents of sampling , so go out there , check it out . If you like that sort of really safe kind of mass appealing sweet , not quite spicy , but very smooth fragrance .
If you're looking for something like that we love to wreak , it would gladly replace line and weed alone in my collection if we kept bottles . But we do not keep bottles , we give them away to our patrons .
Yeah . So , Luke , you're going to be enjoying this . Thank you for being a patron . And that is our one night stand review of to wreak . Let's get into this what may be an overhyped play on words propaganda infused fragrance . The licks are by YSL .
You know , and as we open this , maybe we should go ahead and bring in our resident historian , chris Fragmental , to enlighten us on the origins of elixirs and how they came to be in fragrances .
God I was so close to opening that fucking fragrance .

The term elixir has been around since the 13th century . According to the online etymology dictionary , it is a medieval Latin word which means a liquid believed by alchemists to transform metals into gold and or to cure diseases and prolonged life . The word is also believed to derive from the Arabic elixir , which means a powder for drying wounds .
Later , in medical use , elixir referred to a tincture with more than one base or a strong tonic used as an alternative medicine for healing certain ailments . Often , elixir can be used to describe a potion or tonic that has magical healing properties .
It seems the use of the term elixir has become somewhat fast and loose in modern language , especially over the last few years , by linking it with fragrances .
Finally to play into this magical potion connection , in the hope that any fragrance bearing the name elixir might have some sort of magical , mysterious , aphrodisiac effect stimulating sexual desire in anyone who smells it .
So , ryan , do you think this fragrance Y-lixir is going to be an aphrodisiac of sorts for us , god , I'm hoping .
I mean , I do know the Y-EDP is really good , it's really good .
So it kind of turns your crank a little bit . Yeah , I guess the crank going it puts that key in the ignition .
Oh , don't do . Do not quote that . Do not quote R Kelly . I'm about to . Yeah , get us canceled . Oh God , sorry guys , I didn't want to damage the box . It's maybe going back . Mike's looking at me . I'm like I'm a fucking idiot . Wow , bottle Looks good . Let me see .
Let me hold this thing . Oh , they're like Ryan . There's a lot of fingerprints all over this bottle and it appears that you've pulled a 10 mil decant out of this . I don't think we can take this back , yeah .
I like it . Sharp , blue kind of , I guess dark glass , with like a matte black kind of like where the East in the run is kept . It's on there . Good , I guess . Not magnetic , I kind of like magnetic . Yeah , I do too . All right , we about to be ready . Yes , give me a tester strip . There you go pal .
Now , before this goes on , we smelled one million elixir . It was not bad , it wasn't mind blowing . And we smelled Dior savagelixir , which absolutely is nuts . And we smelled Lamala elixir , which was not bad either . It wasn't crazy to me . But man , out of all those so far , dior savagelixir if I think about this name , that's the king of the hill .
Right now it's on top .
Yeah , just search Fragmental Elixirs and you'll be able to see that full video that we pulled that from . We pirated that . We'll put a link in the description , Just click it . Okay , but he goes on to say that if you go back and actually listen to some of our episodes , we had unrightfully thought that elixir was a form of a concentration . It's not .
No , it's not . We thought it was EDCs or the Colognes , then EDTs , EDPs , Parfums , then elixirs is what I used to think , but I was so wrong . It's only a Parfum , this is only a Parfum . But then what do you do with the extremes and the intensives ? And you know it just goes on and on and on . They're trying to drop our panties .
Well , I'm hoping this does you ready to do it . I'm ready . Hmm , interesting , it's both familiar , mm-hmm , it is kind of loud , kind of safe .
Yeah , it is loud . It's loud and kind of familiar . I'm not even putting it up to my nose and it feels like I'm smelling a bubble bath .
Hmm , that is a good representation .
Yes , I actually take quite a few bubble baths , oh okay , late at night , I don't want to relax . Put a little bit of salt in the bath . You know the bath salt that you can use . That like tenderizes your muscles .
No , but I guess yeah , isn't it called like Epsom salt or something ?
Epsom salt , yeah , yeah yeah , put that in there . It's like I'm brining myself . Oh , was that Dr Teal or something ?
like that yeah , yeah , okay , there's one of those .
So I'll pour that in there and then I'll hit it with that bubble bath . So you know , if somebody walks in I'm not completely nude in the bath , because that's vulnerable place to be , I don't swim very well .
You're probably like that guy on Robin Hood Mid and Tights when he falls into the puddle . You're like , I'm like you're drowning . Yeah , probably so , yee-gah Hi , what do you think ?
It smells good , guys , it does smell good . It smells generic yeah , like as generic , you know , back to backing this with like Tariq , which is a very safe , mass , appealing fragrance that doesn't smell generic . It's kind of hard then to go to this one that is attempting to do the same thing but it has no personality . Yeah , it's really weird .
It's not bad . It's not a bad smell , but I do feel like I've smelled it before , does it ?
smell new . Yeah , it kind of smells like YSLY plus like just a soap smell yeah and somehow kind of dumbed down a little bit from YSLY . So it's almost got like this . For you guys who haven't smelled YEDP or EDT , it's almost like this sweet fruitiness , like in the very background , and then a bunch of just soapiness , just clean masculine soap . Yeah .
I ? I do not know about this fragrance . This is a little too safe . I'll get into the price and train here in a minute .
I mean , I got to be real with you , ryan . I'll save it . I'll save it . Save it for what ? I'll save it for the end of the episode , when we talk about skipping it , sampling it or buying it , and whether or not it's going out to a Patreon . Okay , we'll definitely find that out later and I just want to talk about it now , but I won't .
¶ Disappointing Review of Sauvage Elixir
God , it is disappointing . It doesn't smell bad , though , don't get it wrong . It's a great smell . Actually , it's a great smell , but it's also Look , I got to jump into the price and trim so I can just talk for a minute . Okay , let's do it . Trent , she's fucking dead , guys , really . Yeah , it's brand new though , isn't it ? It's dead , wow .
In fact , I looked at Dior Sauvage Elixir and they're not the first people to do Elixir , by the way , just so you know , roger Parfums does a poor film , elixir . It's kind of like a really well-balanced Chanel type fragrance that came out before Dior Sauvage , elixir , sure , and there's like a slew of other people that have come out with Elixir .
But if we just think about here's your name plus Elixir Dior Sauvage is the king of this realm right now . That fragrance is fucking nuclear . It's different from all the other parts of Sauvage . That thing is a ticking time bomb on its trend . It is just it's red lining , and it has been since it came out . This one literally hyped the day it of .
Since then it's at the very bottom . It makes sense .
Sauvage Elixir gave us something completely different . Even us who really had a hard time buying into Sauvage , since I have bought a bottle or I have rarely spray it , by the way , super loud . Look , if you were going to beat , that's just the EDT . If you're going to beat the EDT and making a Elixir of Sauvage , like , how loud does it have to be ?
And let me tell you , they did it . It's insane . It's the loudest fragrance I've probably ever smelled in my entire life . I can concur .
It is seriously that loud guys . And I love Beast Mode Fragments , that one , it hits all the check marks . It's ridiculous .
I one time sprayed my comforter with one spray of it Because I was like I just want to come in , I want the bedroom to smell great . Clean Sauvage Elixir has a little spiciness to it . Yeah , one spray . I literally could not sleep with that comforter . It was too loud and I just can't imagine wearing that out . I mean , it is so loud especially for me .
I'm a little bit more of a pansy when it comes to like loud fragrances . You just go loud and proud with them .
Yeah , and this will follow to what I'm saying too they're both priced the same . They're both $180 for two ounces . So after taxes this bad boy was $195 . It's not a lot . And for it to not be what , even your Sauvage Elixir is kind of disappointing .
At that price tag that is , that's entering niche for sure . Oh yeah , you can go on to Discounters right now and get Layton by Parfum de Marli for less than that , and that is a 125 mil bottle . Yeah , and this is 75 , right 75 .
So why is so ? Why and Versace , dillon Blue have kind of similar fragrances in a way . I'll go with that . What I was going to say is you can literally go on something like our fragrances . We're not sponsored by them , they don't even know we fucking exist , but you can get . They should have . We've called and sent a few emails . Yeah , they ignore us .
They've got a 3.4 ounce bottle of Dillon Blue a fucking mini.34 ounce thing , a 5 ounce shower gel and a fucking fanny pack bundle for $57 .
Sorry to the UK listeners who had to hear Ryan say that word . I was that bad . That in the UK is equivalent to our P word .
You can bleep this out to like pfft , yeah , really yeah , fanny pack .

Yeah , that means like ass , right , not in the UK . What the hell , man , I've got some weird rules over there , dude , From what I've heard .

But I feel like this is in the same vein of Versace , dillon , blue or Y by YSL , and for that price point , god damn , you could buy three bundles of this , have 300 ML , three five ounce shower gels and this thing is You're like running QVC , right now for a break .
I'm really not Look for three easy payments of $57.98 . This thing .
It smells great , though . It smells good , yeah , but it's not reinventing this line , it's not crazy . Obnoxiously loud , light , dior , savage , elixir , and at that point I feel like it kind of loses some marks . Right For sure it's louder . Oh my god , the hand sounds awful .
I mean I think it's just overbearing , but it's that clean kind of overbearingness . I don't know if it hey , pull up the notes really quick . We did have Chris . I wish we could have Steve read the notes because , again , you guys know he is the note expert .
The note . You want to know the notes . There's only a couple . Yeah , Top notes , lavender , middle notes , geranium , base notes , oud and frankincense . Do you get oud ?
on this . I probably couldn't pick oud out if it slapped me in the face , but I thought this was going to have that strong Ambroxan sort of note . That is with the original Savage . So I feel like that is what's overpowering me and the reason why I can't wear regular Savage because it's so loud , that soapy like bite , that cloud that follows you .
I'm getting this on the skin . Normally when we do an episode , I'm sniffing this thing every 10 , 15 seconds . I've probably sniffed it three times this whole episode One because I can smell it , it's loud but it's not doing anything . That just slaps my fanny Damn .

¶ Fragrance Review
it . It's the guy who walks in that's been wearing like the savages and stuff or wearing YEDP , and they go for the money . This is the loudest nuclear bomb you could get your hands on . Everyone's going to smell you walking down the hall and it's safe , and I think they smell it in the store and they pay full retail for it , which was what ?
Again , after taxes , $195 . Good God , yeah , but I really think that's where it lies . Everybody who is just they need to smell great for work , they work in sales , they work in an office . They need something that's just going to be loud and proud , smell good but not offensive and definitely don't be original in any way .
So they get this and for the money , they feel like they did a good job we need to come up with a name we can use for future episodes .
But , you know , like generic Greg or something , you know , I just feel like a fragrance like this . God forgive me , guys if you fit this , but it's pretty basic , right ? Yeah , I'm not going to lie , though . When I'm fanning this tester strip , it's pretty , but I feel like this is a little bit just why . Or YEDP might as well get those and that'll .
You'll be with this . You'll know what this smells like . You'll get compliments .
Absolutely , it's just smell good . Why are we so upset ? It smells good , it's loud , because you can get this .
I feel like you can get close to this with much cheaper . I don't know , the price is the stickler . Well , the price is a stickler . And then the fact that it's really not inventive to me no disrespect to any perfumer out there . I mean , this is technically a work of art compared to anything that I could fucking ever imagine . Yeah , but it's uh .
yeah , I just feel like if you smelled YEDP , you've smelled this and this is like a mixture of take these you know the really loud cloudiness of Savage and add it to YEDP and that's what you've got .
Yeah , I kind of understand that .

Summer vibes by Dolce and Gabbana Yep God , great looking bottle , sh** fragrance . That really did get me f**ked .
It is loud , guys I mean , but at that price tag , really , because that's cold hard cash we're talking . That's the Cologne podcast money that's gone out . Well , it's Ryan's , but if we decided to keep it , I'd have to dip into our account reimburse him , and I just hate doing that . I hate doing that . So I feel like for the money .
If we were actually going to drop that money on a fragrance , we could get a badass niche fragrance from a discounter and give it to a Patreon .
Absolutely , man this . I could name 20 fragrances better than this man that are cheaper , way cheaper . Yeah , it's a skip . I don't even know if I tell somebody to sample this .
You know what ? We've already done an episode on Greenlee . But our friend Steve , every man fragrances . He's been recently looking into a specific like I think it's a perfume parlor clone of Greenlee . He's been talking about it . That kind of got me piqued again . I've got like three quarters of a bottle left .
I started wearing it again and you were talking about how loud . It is Super loud and it's kind of fresh and fruity green , Got a little bit of bite of like green apple in it . It's sharp , it's good , it's nice , citrus , clean smelling . I mean even a fragrance like that . Hey , pull that up there , Todd , let's see how much that would cost .
It's sold out but it does come in stock . $159 for four ounces on our fragrances . When they do have it's out of stock right now , but when it isn't stock I probably , if I were to guess , you'd probably find it for 170 somewhere like on fragrance net or something like that .
Yeah , way more juice . Or you could get a 75 mil bottle , same size as this , for probably under a hundred bucks 119 .
Might as well just bump up and get that 150 , whatever .
Yeah , for sure . I'm just saying at that price .
And if we're actually spending the money and some very generous company isn't sending us a free bottle for us to spray and then give it to a badger , If we're actually spending the money which is , you know , it's hard to come by guys I can't imagine , just because it's a new release , spending it on this , keeping it and sending it off to somebody .
God , the only way I could see somebody wanting this is if they really like safe office fragrance . I guess , to add some little cherry on top of this shit , sunday is it is probably one of the loudest , clean , safe work for this .
As I've smelled and I get this vibe just by smelling it I feel like it probably will last a good while , and if you're just wanting that , maybe it is a win for you , but it is too safe for me .
I just feel like even why EDP is probably a better route to go than this for the prize .
I'm just I look I'm just trying to find something I know . Oh God damn it .
I saw this coming , by the way . I did too , man , I did too . Ah , look , there are going to be the small but loud minority of people that are going to call us niche snobs for this episode . I'm not a niche shop snob .
The majority of the shit I wear is not niche , so far .
I think it's . By the way , me and Steve , we're best friends . We talk every day yeah , more than he talks to me . Sometimes I just sit down in the corner and cry and text him how I just keep failing on my diet and he's just like come on , bud , you got to do this . You can do this . Okay , do it for yourself .
We were talking about how we need to do another like five for life or our top 10 fragrances , since you know , it's been a lot of water under the bridge since the last time we did that episode . There's been fragrances and he had mentioned Lunar Russocarbon he felt like would be in my tops , and then also the new Insidious Aventus clone .
And I would honestly say , by the way , as much as I've worn Aventus , I've gone through two bottles of it now yeah , plus decants , like 30 mil decants . I would still say I over buying real Aventus , I would buy Insidious and I think Insidious would beat Aventus in being one of my top fragrances .
I agree with that . It is shockingly good and I'm actually pissed that we're giving our two balls away to big Clacker , ben and Sudama . I know .
But Dan did say at some point before we die we'll each get 100 or more bottles . And I know we said earlier in the episode that we're bottle collectors , we're enthusiasts , so we don't keep bottles , we give them . We're keeping those bottles . I'm sorry . In fact this is how much I enjoyed .
